Our comment from FitFit UK about Prince Regent Swimming Complex:
Prince Regent Swimming Complex, located in Brighton, UK, is a community-friendly facility known for its accessibility and family-oriented atmosphere. It features a variety of pools suitable for different skill levels, including a dedicated kids' pool which is a highlight for families. The complex offers good value for money, particularly for those interested in swimming lessons and children's activities.
Positive aspects highlighted by visitors include:
- Great family facilities: The complex includes a kids' area with slides and water features, providing a fun environment for children.
- Affordability: Membership and entry fees are considered reasonable compared to other facilities in the area.
- Friendly staff: Many users appreciate the helpfulness of the staff, especially during classes and activities.
- Good class offerings: The variety of aqua classes and swimming lessons for all ages is a strong point.
However, several reviews point to areas needing improvement:
- Lack of cleanliness: Many guests have reported issues with hygiene, including dirty changing rooms and communal areas.
- Maintenance problems: Showers often do not work properly, and some facilities appear outdated and in need of renovation.
- Management concerns: Some users feel that staffing and management could be improved to enhance the overall experience.
While Prince Regent Swimming Complex has a lot of potential and a loyal local following, addressing the pressing cleanliness and maintenance issues identified by visitors would greatly enhance its reputation and user satisfaction.

Prince Regent Swimming Complex: Opinions
Positive experience: Pretty good public pool
Negative experience: Charging £10 to use those filthy saunas is an absolute rip-off. Let’s be real—most people just walk in without paying anyway. Why? Because the place is barely managed, and the staff don’t seem to care unless it’s the weekend and they can suddenly enforce rules when it suits them. Would I pay over £40 for a membership here? Absolutely not. Cold showers that barely function. Hair and other questionable substances all over the floors. Staff who do the bare minimum, just watching the clock until they can leave. Lack of hygiene—it’s clear no one is properly maintaining the place. But step into the sauna on the weekend without a £10 wristband, and suddenly the staff become hyper-vigilant, acting like it’s a high-security operation. Where’s that energy when the place actually needs cleaning? For a public facility, this level of neglect, poor service, and blatant cash-grabbing is unacceptable. Sort it out.
Fantastic experience: Good facilities
Negative experience: The reception staff is quite rude, as if they're doing you a huge favor all the time, when in fact, it's their job to be helpful. The entire place smells really bad. The locker room reeks of urine, and the gym is very old and also has an unpleasant smell.
Negative experience: The hygiene at the gym is really poor, and the showers are either freezing cold or just a drip of water. Honestly, it’s not asking much to have a warm, working shower at a gym we’re paying for. I’m not sure how this has passed council inspections, but please can you fix the showers and clean the place properly? These are just basic requirements, and your members deserve better.
Negative experience: Dirty, old...In desperate need of a make over. Brighton needs a Water Park
Negative experience: They're changing their locks system. When I had paid to swim, I found reception woman to be cold and patronising. Communication skills baby!
Positive experience: showers don’t work properly, cleanliness could be better, swim lanes are quite slow! you should consider a sprint lane above the fast lane!
Positive experience: Very good value for money nice kids pool...needs mopping as floors leading to pool are very wet and could cause a slip...otherwise very clean...
Positive experience: Swimming pool is good with sauna and steam room. But regular breakdowns and lengthy downtime waiting for repair is very annoying
Fantastic experience: Great local swimming pool, has a lane pool and a shallow pool/ medium sized pool for the kids. Good options on swimming lessons for all ages. Locker/changing area is large and has always been clean when visiting. Also has a gym but have never been so can't comment. Overall would recommend a visit if in the area.
Negative experience: I don't know who is reading that but I am sending my good wishes and hope this will be read by a responsible authority. I kind of don't like the services as me and my wife been kicked out from the pool as we are learners. I am working full time and my wife is a full time physio. We manage some time from our schedule and try to be in the swimming pool to learn the swimming by our own and add some activity in our daily schedule. Why is the life guard often not available for a low height pool? We bought a membership for both of us and can access all the sites around the city but Prince regent leisure center is more feasible location for us. I can bring my friends to help the centre to have more clients but how will I do that when I was kicked out already from a pool?
Negative experience: Dirty, a lot of loud kids, 10 and more people per lane, smell of urine. If it's for you, welcome! But no thanks, that is not my vibe.
Negative experience: This is such a shame because the kids pool is great but the toilets and changing rooms are completely unsanitary. Visible grime, food, hair, no toilet roll, every toilet unflushed and uncleaned. I know the life guards do the the cleaning which may work ok in a smaller pool but the Prince Regent is huge and very busy it needs a professional cleaning team. Please don't leave it this way. The staff were lovely but I was truly shocked at how dirty it is .
Fantastic experience: Nice experience, friendly and professional staff. Excellent swimming pool.
Negative experience: Only posting a review because like 2 weeks later, I’m still having flashbacks to the parasite-like worms that were scattered over the seats and floor and all in the drain of the wet dog-smelling steam room. I was told it’s an ongoing issue so make of that what you will. Not really sure why I’m not giving one star other than to try and be nice
Fantastic experience: Good facilities, friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: iit's my greatest pleasure to be a member of the Prince Regent leisure center in Brighton operated by Brighton and Hove council caring of needy people. I love to share a precious experience in a centre to make my disabled living life brand new mere words could not explain. I was suffering to take all kinds of medicine and physio exercises for a decade but no improvement just getting worse and stressful without any hope and totally miserable living lifetime. someone told me why not to speak to your GP writing a referral change your healthy lifestyle, well, I did it's a great magic to join a aqua swimming, chair fitness and chair yoga...... it's a fabulous well equipped including hosting a chair for disabled people to swimming pool, you can enjoy hot sauna or stream sauna make me feel absolutely relaxed.......no words can express a super value membership fee enjoying a 5 stars the Prince Regent leisure centre. I think cleaning environment and everything is acceptable if someone is demanding it's a private luxury membership club not a funding leisure centre. finally may I take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to manager Eric who concerns all members are happy in a centre, not only an instructors are very professional , thoughtfulness and also a receptionists absolutely friendly with a strong memory when I come there she knows who I am... never find the words to tell you how I feel a sense of belonging in a family of prince Regent centre with deepest appreciate all of you. Well done...joyful day.
Fantastic experience: Accessible ♿ in every way!! The staff is fantastic.
Negative experience: This is the dirtiest recreation facility I've ever been in. Everywhere you look there is hair, used band-aids, dirt, toenails etc. The steam room cleanliness is completely unacceptable. I really wanted to like this place, but it's dirty and smelly. They should be ashamed of themselves people send their children here
Positive experience: I go to this pool usually around 2-3 times a week and overall it is an enjoyable and affordable experience. 30 odd quid a month for basically unlimited swimming is very worthwhile and there are a decent amount of open lane class. However, during the weekdays the pool is often very very busy. If you have any form of fear over crowds or overstimulation the evenings should be avoided. Not looking to blame anyone or anything but 3 lanes for about 40 odd people just is not enough. It has been mentioned for almost a decade now as far as I can see on these reviews but the changing rooms, showers and toilets are in a state. For around 3 weeks now there have been a large amount of flies and ants in the gents loo. Why!!!! I get that kids, teens and strange people frequent here but should the not so subtle stench of wee be acceptable in such an establishment? Again, I seek not to blame the staff who are all very nice and clearly not at fault for this but it really does sour a otherwise nice experience.
Negative experience: The change rooms are disgusting and smell of strong fermented urine. It’s like changing inside an old urinal in summer. The smell of urine is so overwhelming that I felt like vomiting. I am writing this review in hopes that management can do something about the level of hygiene as it is getting to the point where it’s a health risk. The pool is decent and I like the main pools temperature. The front of house is friendly too. However, they really need to undergo intense deep disinfectant cleaning, as well as everyday cleaning twice a day to maintain a good standard of hygiene. As this is becoming a health hazard. ⚠️
Negative experience: It cool be such a great place if they put just a little effort enforcing some rules, it’s a shame really. 1. Price is quite accessible, £6.60 per swim, but this doesn’t include the locker price (which you can only pay £1 in coins). Obviously I will need a locker as I’m not walking into the place already wearing my swimsuit and slippers and I don’t carry cash on me daily. I left my stuff in a locker unlocked and it was fine though. 2. It’s full of hair everywhere because it’s not mandatory to wear a swim cap. Or, maybe it’s mandatory but definitely not enforced. I was the only one wearing a cap. People not even tying their hair up, it was disgusting 3. Lifeguards wearing shoes near the pool??? What is up with that? Not only is it unsanitary but if someone is actually drowning what are they gonna do, jump in with their shoes on? Or take their time to take their shoes off while the person is drowning? Wear slippers please. 4. Everyone walking barefoot around is a great way to leave with some free fungi. Why is nobody wearing slippers?? And people in changing rooms still wearing shoes even though it clearly states you should take them off at the entrance. 5. Place is nasty, filth on the floor (because of the above duh) and seems like it doesn’t get regularly cleaned. It’s good for a cheap swim and water is warm and showers are hot with good pressure, but my god why are people acting like aliens that have never been near a pool before (including the staff). Enforce some rules and clean it up more often
Positive experience: Friendly staff and - for a heavily used municipal pool - the facilities are OK.
Fantastic experience: Really good value. Has although facilities. A bit dated looking. But lovely staff.
Positive experience: for students it’s free if you have written proof. regarding the structure, quite dirty especially the changing rooms and sometimes also the pools … but a nice vibe inside. caring staff and lots of privacy
Negative experience: As with most swimming pools, the cleanliness of the changing rooms needs vast improvement.
Positive experience: The staff were nothing but apologetic and did what they could to help me when someone else took my towel and I was left with nothing to dry myself with. They found it discarded and smelling ‘rank.’ Some people are just disgusting. Thanks to the staff for doing what they could and being kind and just don’t leave your towel hanging up!
Positive experience: Try to go once a week with a friend and his 12 Yr old. So often we attempt to go on a Sunday and his child can't come in the pool with us. We try to phone before hand and very rarely do the phones get answered to save us the trip.
Fantastic experience: swimming for kids is getting fun ,special highlight Jason ,very passionate and clear communicative with children ,very patient and fun ,facility need bit of cleaning but rest is excellent
Negative experience: It's a place that feels It's deliberately been neglected so that it could just crumble and eventually bankrupt and close! Very tired place, very dirty, when seeing staff doing cleaning I always feel like I want tell them how it's really done! You can only use steam and sauna room at certain times and not always exactly advertised times, and their reasons/excuses for this bazaar timings are that because of swimming classes, even though they are totally separate things and when asked about absurdity of this they say it's a safeguarding practice, it's and absolute nonsense (not just my opinion but many fellow users of the facilities) Over all the whole place needs a total revamp, again when mentioned to reception or management the excuse is lack of money/funding etc, I just don't buy that I'm afraid, given the proposed projects locally in this service sector. Just up your game freedom leisure and brighton and hove council !...
Negative experience: The floor is nasty. People actually walk in with their muddy shoes in changing rooms where they're supposed to be barefoot. Toilets need a good cleaning too. It's a good swimming pool, it's just a shame that it feels like it only gets cleaned up once a month
Negative experience: Pathetic place with obnoxious rude staff. Don't waste your time
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting, dirty all over the place , cold water but at least you have hot water to take shower
Positive experience: Large pool with lots of various activities. Big unisex changing rooms lots of staff trying to keep it tidy but still felt a bit dirty and messy.
Positive experience: I really enjoyed my swim here. The pool was clean and not too warm so I could actually do laps without the heat draining my energy. I really wanted a souvenir swimming cap to remember this pool but they didn't have any. I would have been wearing it proudly in Australia now if they did
Negative experience: Not clean at all, needs much more regular cleaning. Felt gross getting changed and swimming. Had to have another shower when I got home. I arrived after work for a swim and it felt like the changing rooms hadn't been cleaned all day (or all week to be honest), the floors were wet and sticky and there was mess in all the changing blocks. It's a real shame because the location is good but I won't be coming back again until there's improvement.
Negative experience: It would be really nice if reception answered the phone instead of just looking at it while it rings. Ive found this a repeated issue which has led me to wasting my time arriving to find the pool closed which Is why I was trying to call in advance. King Alfred it is from now on.
Negative experience: They just need some better management- this place is filthy. It wouldn’t even be hard to sort but with a lack of leadership, teenagers (who are all lovely) pushing a squeegee about isn’t going to cut it. It needs a deep deep clean, then proper maintenance. This, looking at the other reviews clearly isn’t a controversial opinion- we should demand better for our city. This place has to represent a health hazard and I can’t imagine many would want to see this place close, let’s save this needed facility. Manager - please feel free to contact me to discuss further.
Fantastic experience: very convenient in the city with parking; pool maintenance is nice as well
Negative experience: Was extremely disappointed in the condition of the ladies toilets. Toilet bowls extremely stained.and was no toilet paper in two of the cubicles.!
Negative experience: Very dirty. The facilities are good but it's really filthy and I felt disgusting using it. Would not go again.
Negative experience: Every time I go to swim here with my boy, he can't go in the big pool due to lack of staff. As a parent I should be able to supervise my child (he can swim) in the big pool. Otherwise it's just no fun & we need more places where kids can have fun.
Fantastic experience: I really regret not starting swimming lessons earlier for my son here. Although it's difficult for a child to get optimal attention if signed up for general class, (which is a teacher to up to 6 children,) the fact that there are different swimming pools gives the child something to look up to.
Positive experience: FYI - membership with access to the pool, sauna, gym and classes is £40pm, with a £20 membership fee and a three month period before you can cancel. Otherwise, you can pay as you go. You can sign up for membership at reception. I would ignore what it says on the website, you don't need to use the webform which is tedious, slow and completely pointless. Now my list of recommendations: - More cold showers - Variable temperature showers - Cold plunge - Just something to cool down before using the sweltering changing rooms in summer or after the sauna - More lanes for medium to intermediate swimmers - Some investment........
Negative experience: Asked for a swim, steam and sauna when I came in and spent £8 only to be told “out you get” by a teenager working way above their pay grade. “The sauna gets turned off for two hours”, so I was charged for virtually nothing. Obviously no refunds— Thanks for nothing.
Negative experience: Filthiest public pool complex I've ever been in. The showers are covered in mould and grime. The changing room floor is covered in hair, dirt, bits of rubbish, etc. The whole place is in desperate need of a refurb. Shame - the staff are lovely.
Positive experience: Brilliant place to bring young children as they have a separate pool for the young ones, with a slide and water fountain type things, its also wristbands, so its never really busy all at one time. I'd definitely book before going though as I'm not 100% you'd get in on the day.
Negative experience: Haven't been swimming here for years, used to bring my children here. Have a health referral gym membership, so have come to the aqua-rehab class. Ive only been 3 times. Both the last 2 times Ive been ill the next day, with a sore throat virus and now a cold for days. The class was great but the poolside smelt awful, the pool was dirty and the changing rooms and showers are so filthy its really unhygienic. Hair, nails, bits of rubbish on the floors, the showers are full of mould. Ive not seen anyone clean at all. I dont think Ill be able to come back as dont want to get ill every time I come swimming! Very dissapointing
Positive experience: But rubbish when you see plasters floating at the bottom of the pool
Negative experience: On holiday in Brighton and wanted to take the children swimming. It turns out children are not allowed in during the public swim slots mid-week.
Negative experience: Joined them not long ago. Not sure if they have cleaners. It’s dirty. Gym not sure if they ever mop the floor or dust. The equipments in the gym are often broken. (Example the cardio or rowing machine) the shover room last time was broken in the gym area and again not sure how often they actually clean the showers there……
Negative experience: The general cleanliness of the facility is shocking. Mould and grime in the communal shower area that if frankly inexcusable. The whole changing room and shower area needs the deepest of cleans!
Negative experience: The location is good and easy to find. It was first time going to this swimming pool. The receptionist was nice and helpful. However, the pool is not clean and cold. There is dirt and people's hair in the depths of this pond and on the way to the pool. I felt disgusted looking at dirt floors and hair everywhere it is really unhygienic! The water is very salty. And the wet sauna was not working. Also the washrooms are dirty. I hope they fix this problem as soon as possible.
Negative experience: Pool is pretty dirty but convenient as it’s in town
Positive experience: Took our 4 and 1 year old grandchildren to Prince Regent - we used the children’s pool. Perfectly serviceable, with warm showers after - although a few weren’t working.
Negative experience: The pool is not clean. There is dirt and people's hair in the depths of this pond. The water is very salty. Lifeguards are bad . They don't respect anyone. I hope they fix this problem as soon as possible
Negative experience: I saw the same sticking plaster in the pool, 4 days apart. Also seeing visible dirt at the bottom of the pools. The place has so much potential. Very unfortunate and gross.
Negative experience: My review is about the price. As a visitor to the area I thought £6.50 for a swim was expensive. There were 8 people in one lane making swimming difficult. Overall not value for money.
Negative experience: Bit pointless having a phone number, when no one ever picks up. Also, when I do get through, to see if under 16's can go in the big pool & told yes. By the time I walk down it's a no, and it's just not fun.
Fantastic experience: One of the good complexes in Brighton. Enough facilities and necessities. They didn't allow me to take a picture, anyway it was full of people so it wasn't a good time to take a picture of whole thing. But it looks nice and clean and not so crowded
Fantastic experience: I have been a St.Luke's regular until I had to forcibly go to PRSC owing to staff shortage at St.Luke's. And oh boy I was up for a very pleasant surprise, same management but the difference is night and day. Warm showers, heated changing rooms, nice reception and the slides are like icing on the cake. My little one loved it, I loved it. No going back to St.Luke's anytime soon. And oh, the parking charges are amazing 1£ for 2 hours. All boxes checked.
Positive experience: It's OK. Quite tired in places and the changing rooms are not particularly clean, but passable with flip flops. They do have a buggy park where you can store and lock your pram, which is good! They do also have family changing rooms which have baby change tables. Could do with a refurbishment.
Positive experience: Need more showers, two showers with doors have been out of order for ages (nothing changes)and two other showers are not working .showers have now been fixed (lovely).I know the swimming pool is for all but during all off the holidays the adults seem to be pushed to the side and it's all about the children
Positive experience: Trying to get ahold of someone on the phone 20 minutes on hold no answer but the website says you HAVE to book through the phone??? With who???
Negative experience: It was so so so cold both in the water and out. Something must be wrong with the heating for the building and for the water cos it was cold. Not an enjoyable time.
Positive experience: Although they have some really good Aqua classes and Pilates and Yoga classes, the general cleanliness needs improvement. The staff and teachers are friendly and helpful. Just needs to be a bit cleaner.
Fantastic experience: First time at Prince Regent swimming pool.i am disabled and staff helped me into the pool with a hoist, made my swim so much better.plus the showers were hot.will definitely return.
Positive experience: Swimming review- main pool. Getting there- really close to Jubilee library in the town centre/ parking is available - go down North rd & turn right near the bottom into the road between two 'Oakley'shops. At reception log your number plate & give them £1 which covers the fee( excellent considering you're in the town centre). The changing rooms are big, generally well kept with single changing areas & some family ones. There are lockers that need £1 coin( returnable). Showers are generally communal but there are some cubicles ( some currently don't work)( which us why i took off a star- also the changing area isn't very warm). The main pool is pretty good, mainly clean and there are 3 lanes plus a bit 'do whatever' area. The medium pace lane for an unknown reason is swim anticlockwise- which means unless you breathe to your right you often misjudge and hit the solid lane dividers as the lanes are quite slim. After my first swim I had bruises all over my arm so I avoid that lane.Once dressed there is a small area with several free hairdryers. Overall I am impressed with the facilities- there was plenty of opportunity to swim as the other pools facilitate most of the 'learner'& aqua type activities.
Thanks for taking the time to leave this Janet, all of the info will be great for people searching on here!
Negative experience: Mould in the showers which hardly ever work, filthy floors - staff cleaning them actually look to be making them worse. Closed over the Christmas period due to problem with the pool - when most people want to excercise, only informed when going down there. They hire out the pool to for private classes half the time. They cut down on the chlorine content in the pool during covid and never went back to putting more in - why you will find it tastes like bodilly fluids. Very poor overall - worst complex I have been too.
Hi Michael, Thanks for your feedback. We clean the facility regularly as hygiene is of upmost importance to us and the council and our customers. In regards to chlorine I think there may have been miscommunication. We did have to lower these in line with the national chlorine shortage and ended up accelerating a project to allow the pool to not rely on chlorine. It is how we managed to sustain the business during the chlorine crisis. This was long after COVID. We did communicate this to all members as it took place. Over Christmas we did have planned closures that were again communicated. It may be that we don't have your correct email and contact number registered as all subscribed get regular updates. In regards to classes, our learn2swim programme is agreed with the council and is in order to provide Brighton and Hove children the opportunity to learn to swim as an important life skill. I hope this helps explain some of the issues that have dissappointed you. Thank you for taking the time to feedback. The Prince Regent Team
Fantastic experience: Great place for a swim with 4 different pools and a gim .
Thanks Hector!
Negative experience: Steam room not been working for months and sauna was supposed to be closed for a few days but been weeks. No longer able to use pool etc till 10pm anymore as sold times to swimming clubs etc but no reduction in membership price. Only good thing are the classes and staff that deliver them
Negative experience: Went there for a 4 hour scuba class, parking signage was not clear about how to pay for extra hours (first 2 are free). I have the pay by phone app and regularly use it - turns out that there is a tiny pay by phone section on the poster, but wasn't clear to me at all. Parkingeye have fined me £100, refused my appeal and are threatening to take me to court. I'm never going back to the pool.
Hi Alex, Apologies this happened. We do have signage RE license plate info, you need to give this at reception. We can always help you with fines as long as you contact us before payment as its an external company.
Negative experience: Somehow the website keeps getting worse and worse. Even if you do manage to figure out when the pool is free for lane swimming it might be a completely different story when you actually get there.
Fantastic experience: Very amazing swimming experience loved the water slide aswell as the pools
Negative experience: Baby pool was cold the last time we came and the only two times we’ve swim here my lo has had an ear infection 24 hrs later. The first one led to a perforated eardrum at 6 mo old. I shouldn’t have risked coming back but figured it was maybe just a one off bad experience. So we came again now he’s 10 months and are now having to go back to the docs for antibiotics! Hasn’t happened anywhere else!! Dirty changing rooms and the whole place generally feels unhygienic. I won’t bother coming again. Shame as it’s so close to the library and town it makes a nice day out but yeah, I’ll stick to little dippers!
Fantastic experience: Great pool, decent gym and friendly staff. My fav leisure centre in Brighton.
Fantastic experience: This is a great day out for the children they have a tots area, a training pool & also a laned area for the advanced swimmers also they have a gym and pool viewing area.
Fantastic experience: Really good took the kids was family friendly clean a little cold but over all good
Positive experience: Mostly okay for casual swim. Water occasionally gets a bit murky, compared with other public pools I've experienced. If you're wanting a good shower before/after swimming best check with front desk before paying. They have been even less reliable than usual for many months. Rapid temperature fluctuations, from ice to tepid or occasionally hot, but never consistent. Okay on my last visit though. The current locker key wrist/ankle bands are pretty uncomfortable too, for me at least. The ones this present batch of keys/straps replaced were considerably better.
Positive experience: Good place to go for a swim or an aqua class. Showers not great though- a bit grubby and could benefit from some investment. Staff all friendly so far!
Fantastic experience: Prince regent swimming pool is a great place to take the kids, good atmosphere slide and 3 pools includes a kids pool really warm 0.9 metres and a sauna
Positive experience: Changing rooms were dirty but overall it was decent. Showers worked and slide was brilliant
Negative experience: Same deal with not putting the prices online. Contact us for prices…? If I walk in I can see what the prices are. Just put the prices on the website!
https://bookwkg.freedom-leisure.co.uk/princeregentbookings Hope you're well Julian. Sorry if this has upset you but you will be happy to learn all of our activity prices are on the booking page and always have been. Hope this helps
Positive experience: Good swimming facility in town centre, could use little revamp with kids toys and decor but all in all it's okay. I come here weekly with my 2 year old to swim and hygiene is good mostly, usually see someone cleaning floors in busier periods and pool and surrounding areas are generally in good condition, sometimes however the nappy bins are full in the family changerooms and I'm usually there 1st thing in the morning so guessing they not emptied at end of day on occasion. Friendly staff too, always someone looking over each pool and they keep customers and bystanders in check with safety rules, like no mobiles in pool area and no noodles on the slides etc etc.... Dropped one star on review as it's not as good as Splashpoint or The Triangle. Would recommend though if you fancy a swim in town centre.
Thanks Duncan!
Positive experience: Great place to unwind after work... Weird closing times in the afternoons. Locker rooms could be a bit better maintained... Great pool, excellent sauna... Missing the steam room!! I'm a regular here and love it..
Positive experience: Fab kids pool with a little slide, sprayers, loads of noodles. Changing rooms pretty minging. Parking round the back for £1 is super handy.
Fantastic experience: Some great improvements since Graham became manager, he's doing a very great job. Also big shout-out to Georgia and Frank who work as trainers in the gym, they are simply superb
Negative experience: Underwhelming first impression, the unisex changing rooms were very dirty, clumps of hair, rubbish and dirt visible all over the floor, strong odour present which got worse the closer to the pool you got. The tiles around the pool were very slippy and I would expect some of the older less stable patrons might need to wear footwear to avoid falling. The pool itself is quite small and the 3 swimming lanes busy, looking under water I have never seen so many old plasters before. I would have concerns about the hygiene throughout the complex to be honest, surprising in Covid times etc. The showers were mostly out of action with only 2 of them working and a long queue of people waiting to use them. I think the facility needs a council or environmental health inspection and some improvement in basic cleaning procedures implemented asap. I wouldn't go again. Reception staff were however pleasant and helpful, the lifeguards less so!
Negative experience: Lovely Pool lovely staff show me about the showers
Positive experience: Loved it here 10 years ago but it's gone a bit green in the bottom of the pool and there's loose rank bits lying there!
Negative experience: The majority of showers dont work and haven't for month. The steam room isnt working. The centre overall is filthy, the staff are generally unhelpful and the hours during which you can actually swim have significantly reduced recently whereby the centre closes most days from 15:45 to 17:15, on Tuesday you can't use the pool due to private lessons, Friday from 16:00 the pool is unavailable due to swim club, on Sunday the pool is unavailable from 5pn due private hire, in the evenings on the days you can swim the lanes are reduced, again due private swimming, to 3 swim lanes, to the point that I would compare it to peak hour traffic on the road.
Negative experience: I've really tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt as it is the only swimming pool in central brighton. After my fourth visit tonight, I will never be stepping foot in it again. It is ridiculously busy no matter what time you go, and the lanes are so narrow i've been kicked at least 20 times during a half an hour visit, every visit. for perspective, i swam in a different pool 3 times a week for 3 years and i was kicked maybe six times in total. The timetable is misleading, because it says adult lanes but actually 2 out of 5 lanes are used for swimming lessons, pushing every paying customer into 3 tiny lanes. When i asked reception about maximum capacity, i was told the capacity is 100 people, and there is no maximum capacity on lanes. Which suggests that freedom leisure will happily charge £5.25 to 33 people to share a 25m lane. Go figure. The receptionists were also bafflingly unhelpful. The changing rooms are also dirty and half the showers didn't work. An absolute joke - you couldn't pay me to go back.
Negative experience: This has basically everything you need but it’s just a bit grotty. The gym is small and the atmosphere isn’t great. A positive feature is the large window overlooking the swimming pool so the gym doesn’t feel so much like a cave like many other gyms, and you have something to look at besides a wall or mirror. The pool is always really crowded and just not the most pleasant atmosphere. The membership is overpriced for what you get and the sauna and steam rooms are small and not a good atmosphere with the children’s slide right above it which makes the area extremely noisy. It’s a shame that this is essentially the only somewhat affordable option for a gym and lanes swimming pool with sauna combination available in Brighton.
Positive experience: Basic swimming pool. They don't communicate very well when they are open to the public. Their opening time may say 6am - 9pm, but that doesn't mean their open to the public all that time. The timetable on their website is unintelligible.
Negative experience: why so dirty? clean it please, mirrors, changing rooms etc. ALL and please don't lie when we ask how often you change the water. disgusting like today example CLEAN IT! we pay for it why not clean?
Negative experience: All staff appear to be disinterested teenagers. Probably the reason why the facilities seem like they could do with a decent clean (like most municipal pools in England). Also its rather chilly and slippery when walking from the baby pool to showers. Only saving grace is the location.
Fantastic experience: Love this swimming pool. Amazing student discount for Brighton uni students!!
Fantastic experience: Very convenient location. Nice sauna and steam room when its open.
Negative experience: I went for a swim and a sauna and obviously the sauna wasn't working (as 50% of the times since I Joined) but was really shocking was that the showers didn't work and they let people go swimming without taking a shower! How disgusting is that? I'm not sure if it's even legal. Anyway stay away if you care for your hygiene and health. Appalling experience. I'm gutted.
