Fantastic experience: Friendly staff - good location

Negative experience: Toilets not working, no toilet paper, one of the jacuzzi wasn't working properly. And why when you're trying to book it says 3 spaces/hour, when there were 15 people using the sauna/spa?

Fantastic experience: It’s a community within a community. Communication with staff is easy friendly yet professional as well as personal. It’s great to see the staff having the right balance of hard work and being accessible to the public. Dan Leeds by example and is always working hard to provide good service and a good energy.

Negative experience: Went there to use the splash toddler/baby pool with my child on my day off with her (1 year old). Only to get there and be told a. I can't go in until 12 cause there is a class, then b. I can't actually use the baby splash place...at all, until 4pm?!?! Surely the whole point of that pool is for parents and babies off in the day/paternity leave to use?!?! Stupidest thing ever.

Fantastic experience: Unusual pool... but a very nice pool. Good size main pool.. with good depth. Perfect for training. And tumble turns. Wasn't overly busy when I went. But was lots of lessons on at that time.. the smaller pools join into main pool which means main pool is a slightly odd shape. A little distracting doing length with angles not nice and straight.. or as you are passing the diving pool to your side. Overall I liked the pool. And hopefully will get another chance to visit before my job moves me elsewhere.

Negative experience: Far too militant at kids parties. I reported this a while ago so it’s sad to see that it is still happening. Ridiculous process of ‘assessing’ children badly, which appears to depend on the mood of the lifeguard (my child passed but some of her friends didn’t). Don’t book a party

Negative experience: If I could remove the 1 star I would. Booked swim + Dive for all at Hatfield Swim Centre. Despite describing it as 'Dive for All'.....it is actually only 1 person. Let down by a poorly worded website. My 7 year old who has been attending swimming lessons here where she used the diving board was told she is not allowed to use the diving board because she is too young! (Min age 8). What a joke! It's fine for her to use the diving board when it's a lesson under the supervision of some "teacher" [using that term loosely as they spend more time chatting than teaching] The staff here are clueless. Ended up leaving with 2 not so happy kids. I'll call for a refund where they can keep us hold for 14hrs.

Negative experience: If you are looking at booking a birthday part here I would strongly advise against it. My daughter goes swimming regularly, she has lessons with school and I take her most Sundays. When I take her she normally swims 50m front crawl at the beginning before playing and practising her diving then 50m breast stroke at the end before leaving. We thought that even though the reviews here weren't good the idea of having a party here was great. There is a small test at the beginning but then they are free to use the inflatable obstacle course and diving boards after. So, even though my daughter can swim the lifeguard on duty decided to fail her. She swam the whole distance without touching the floor twice. My daughter was almost in tears, I didn't know what happened but the lifeguard said it was she changed her stroke halfway through. I challenged him and he said she could do the test again. I asked my daughter to just choose one stroke and stick to it. She started swimming, there were other children in the pool at this point but she swam round everyone without touching the floor. I thought nothing of it as she swam the whole distance. The lifeguard then said her strokes weren't strong enough. My daughter isn't the fastest of swimmers but she easily swam the test 3 times. I have emailed them for a response and apparently they are investigating but "Pool safety is our greatest priority, we do always offer a retest but it is down to the lifeguards/duty manager on shifts discretion whether a swimmer passes or fails." So a girl with armbands was allowed to pass this test and ended up on the diving boards (the mother had to scream out for her to get down) so not sure how that works with pool safety. My daughters birthday was ruined and they have not come back to me with any satisfactory explanation as to why she failed the test. So even if your child can swim they may just fail them for the sake of failing them, leaving them to watch their friends play.

Negative experience: The lady at the front desk is very ignorant

Negative experience: Very rude lesson teachers screaming and shouting at kids. How do you as an adult want to correct a child then scream at him. I would be cancelling my child's lesson.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, warm water and clean facilities. My kids love it here

Positive experience: Never keep expectations on this place. You get what you pay for, and sometimes less in this place. Out of 4 treadmills 2 doesn't work, 2 cycling machines doesn't work and 2 changing rooms are broken. I know this is a charitable establishment, so don't expect more you don't get what you pay for and there's no one who takes incharge to address your complaints.

Positive experience: We take our granddaughters for their swimming lessons but the changing rooms need a good clean.

Positive experience: Can get crowded especially with hot weather not bad facilities but beginning to show its age

Negative experience: The swimming lessons are diabolical. Originally started in red hats with a young boy who was brilliant but then left to go back to university and was replaced by Louise who is USELESS. She basically lets the kids fend for themselves and doesn’t teach them anything. My 5 year old just started walking across the pool in lessons. Brought this up but nobody cared as ‘there’s no swim manager at the moment’. Took her out of lessons immediately, emailed a complaint twice but of course, ignored. The place is also FILTHY! If you are looking for swim lessons in the area then use Hertfordshire Sports village and do not go close to this place!

Positive experience: Good swimming facilities, a main pool plus kids pool and splash area. There is also a dedicated diving pool that can be booked. Changing rooms were generally clean, much cleaner than other pools nearby. Quiet for a Sunday, although the "fun swim" consisted of about four large floats in the main pool. Still, we had a good time and will return.

Fantastic experience: Swimming lesson for my kids great

Negative experience: Really good health suite and pool. The only reason I have given it two stars is because it is a cashless site with £1 coin lockers. The cart is before the horse there expecting other people to take responsibility for the lockers.

Fantastic experience: I swam on 2 consecutive days. The swimming pool is nice and long (maybe 30 meters) with a slow, medium and fast lane. I booked on the better. Org app and it cost £6.80 for a lane swim. A pair slow Joes in the medium lane swimming breaststroke and chatting while they swam which isn’t good as the one blocked the overtake area. The lifeguard should regulate this. A very nice guy at reception (dark hair and a beard) gave me a locker coin because they had run out of them (can also use a £1 coin). Blonde haired girl with glasses needs an attitude change. Change rooms are clean and there are free hairdryers.

Positive experience: All good, took grandkids to fun afternoon the inflatable was late being put up. So the kids had 3 hours in the pool. Very entertaining and excellent value for money Great staff and friendly if a little disorganised

Negative experience: As a local resident, I was excited to visit Hatfield Leisure Center, expecting a rejuvenating and fun-filled day. However, my experience left me utterly disheartened and regretful. Here's why so called BETTER Hatfield Leisure Center earns the dubious honour of being the worst leisure center in England and probably the whole UK: Filthy Facilities: Upon entering, the first thing that struck me was the unkempt appearance of the entire center. The floors looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks, with sticky patches in several areas. The changing rooms were a breeding ground for bacteria, with foul odours that made me reconsider my decision to visit. The so-called "leisure" amenities were a joke. The pool water was murky and had a strange odour, indicating poor maintenance. The gym equipment seemed ancient and poorly maintained, with broken machines scattered around the area. Disinterested Staff: The staff at BETTER Hatfield Leisure Center appeared disinterested and lethargic. It took ages to get someone's attention, and even then, they seemed annoyed by my queries. The lifeguards were more engrossed in their issues than ensuring the safety of the swimmers, which is a serious concern for anyone concerned about their well-being. Overpriced Admission: Given the dismal state of the facilities, one would expect reasonable pricing. However, BETTER Hatfield Leisure Center charges exorbitant fees for entry, making it a complete rip-off. I felt cheated out of my hard-earned money for the subpar experience I received. Predatory Policy: Hidden within the fine print of Leisure Center's terms and conditions is a clause that grants them the power to confiscate all your paid money without offering any refund whatsoever. This exploitative policy is a blatant disregard for customer rights and serves as a warning sign of their disregard for customer satisfaction. Safety Hazards: Safety seemed to be the last thing on the management's mind. I noticed several potential hazards, from slippery floors around the pool area to exposed wires near the gym equipment. It's a disaster waiting to happen, and I fear for the safety of anyone who dares to visit this center. In conclusion, BETTER Hatfield Leisure Center is a disgrace to the concept of leisure centres. From its filthy facilities to its amenities and Predatory Policy to disinterested staff, there's nothing redeemable about this place. Save yourself the disappointment and steer clear of this sorry excuse for a leisure center.

Fantastic experience: Good value gym,swim and sauna..

Negative experience: Very dirty changing rooms, bins overflowing, food on the floor. Swimming pool cold, far from ideal when taking a toddler to a pool. When questioned on conditions and rubbish was told it was council responsibility for bins.

Negative experience: I went to Hatfield Swim Centre on Saturday 30th December with my 17 month old. The changing rooms were below par, there was litter in the family changing and generally everywhere just looked very tired. We packed our stuff away in the lockers and went to the baby pool. The pool was absolutely freezing. Having been many years ago I remember the smaller pools being very warm but this was absolutely not the case on Saturday. Both pools were so cold. My daughter had a warm wetsuit on but she was still shivering. We could only spend 10 minutes in the pool before having to get out because it was so cold. During our time there, it seems there was not an adult in site. The workforce were all teenagers. In fact most of them were more interested in smashing up something very loudly in a cupboard next to the baby pool. Safe to say I won’t be back.

Negative experience: How ridiculous you have to book for a swimming pool what are the expecting thousands of people to turn up remember the old days when you could walk in have a swim when you fancy it or had the time to fit it in not now you have to go for a list of options and if you missed the option for that hour you can't go supposed to be for the mental health and fitness of the community it's just another barrier for old age pensioners and people who haven't got access to booking over the phone via computer etc absolutely ridiculous

Negative experience: Rude. Don't do this don't do that. You can't use that pool. Snatching the balls and floats off the little one. Miserable staff. Why let us book if we can't use the kids pool??? Wasn't allowed in big pool. Wasn't allowed in kids pool as a swim lesson was going on. Even the swim coach was miserable. Ridiculous! Waste of money. Upset child and her friend. I even told the staff Don't tell me what to do. I've paid for my child to swim. Maybe next time. Don't let adults book of we aren't allowed to use the pool for our kids! Staff look about 15! Avoid avoid avoid.

Fantastic experience: Love this place. There is a little pool for small babies and toddlers with slide and waterfalls. A middle size pool with toys including noodles, floats and balls and theen the big pool with a diving board. Always travel past 3 other pools to get to this one.

Negative experience: Disappointed. I was excited to swim again but the adult lane session is 1 big area (enough for 2 lanes). You can't swim properly because you have to check every few seconds whether you're going to bump into anyone. Changing rooms not very clean. Also a very expensive swim. Can't believe this is a leisure centre.

Negative experience: We went Monday 12 am. with my sister and 3 year old nephew to the swimming pool. We bought the tickets from reception and we were told that we can go inside. The moment we got into the pool, a guy named WILL, has started SHOUTING LOUDLY AND VIOLENTLY towards us to get out of the pool because it's closed. He could have calmly explain that it will be opening in the next 5 minutes, because he took the sign of after 5 minutes. The child started crying, he was scared of the violent outburst of the guy's voice. Does the management of BETTER GYM even exists? Do you people read the reviews,do you manage your own employees. I think that someone who's in charge of a public venue should be more considerate with people, especially children. It's disgusting and ludicrous to say the least,I'm planning to take it to the court if you people don't have any kind of reaction to this situation.

Negative experience: Swimming pool was cold. We were told we weren’t allowed to get a float for our 7 year old despite four other people having one. Heard a lifeguard tell an old man that he’s not allowed to use a snorkel. Showers were cold. No parking. I had gone here as a child and remembered it being fantastic. It is definitely not the case anymore sadly. The only good thing there is that they have diving boards unlike most other pools.

Positive experience: Very nice but was very disappointed with all the algae that's in the pool eg.around steps and on poolside

Fantastic experience: I regularly go swimming into this swim centre. There is a free car park next to the building. There is a clean swimming pool and changing facilities with lockers that work with a pound coin.

Negative experience: The Hatfield Swimming Centre I recently visited was an incredibly disappointing experience. The facility itself lacked sufficient space, limiting the number of people who could effectively exercise. To make matters worse, the showers were disgustingly dirty and unappealing. However, what stood out the most was the demeanor of the majority of the employees. They appeared unhappy and treated customers with a remarkable level of unpleasantness, as if we were to blame for their own personal troubles. Although they advertise a more affordable membership, they follow a similar approach to budget airlines like Ryanair. They charge for any additional activities you wish to engage in, including a ludicrous fee they refer to as "water splashing." If you desire to go for a proper swim, you are required to separately book and pay for that privilege, which is quite frankly a complete joke. The managers of the facility are not only rude but also inept. Despite the presence of a few competent staff members, it seems impossible for them to bring about any positive changes to enhance the overall experience. My advice is to avoid wasting your hard-earned money on this establishment. Investing in an inflatable pool for your home would provide a far superior and more cost-effective experience than visiting the Hatfield swimming centre. As for their gym, it's simply not worth the bother. There are numerous other gyms available that offer superior services at more affordable prices.

Positive experience: Nice pool not too busy and quite clean for public gym

Negative experience: The most awful place I've ever been The gym is a farce; there is not much space, and only a few people can exercise in the gym. Showers are filthy and repulsive. Above all, the majority of the employees seem unhappy and really unpleasant. They treat you like you are the cause of all of their suffering. It appears that they provide a less expensive membership, but, like Ryanair, they charge you for any additional activity you want to have. They charge you for something they call "water splashing,", but if you want to dive, you have to book and pay separately for that, which is a complete joke. The managers are incompetent and rude. With a few good staff members, they cannot make any changes to improve the centre. Don't waste your money; having an inflatable pool at home is much better and cheaper than going to the Hatfield swimming centre. As for their gym, please don't bother; it's not worth it. There are far better and cheaper gyms around.

Positive experience: Fab pool and friendly staff. Overall pretty clean. Love the spa. But please please please tell people on the app if you have only one lane open. Tonight I went and all other lanes being used for swim school. As a result I was stuck behind slow coaches and kids playing in the shallow end

Negative experience: I wouldn't recommend going. The gym is sub-standard compared to its local competition, but I could easily work with that. What bothered me is they're always finding some reason to shut. Bank holiday weekends they shut early, Fridays they shut early. They ask for £35 and end up shutting all the time. The staff are dreadful too, all teenagers who don't want to be there. One machine broke and wasn't fixed for weeks.

Negative experience: Sadly any time i have the time to go with my toddler its never open to use. They keep saying we can come at this time, at that time, aka times that are not convenient with a working parent with a toddler. They offered me deep pool lane swimming.... with my nearly 2 year old.... I had even phoned up to check availability, but they give the wrong times, which ultimately wastes my time amd disappoints my nearly 2 year old, which had to come away jn tears due to the wrong times given.

Fantastic experience: Great pool I've been going to for nearly 40 years. Fantastic community resource. Chlorine mix has improved since Better started to manage it and it dries my skin less now. Helpful staff and wide range of activities there.

Negative experience: The centre looks nice enough but the high diving area is a joke. No freedom to do anything. It genuinely feels like they’re just trying to make it as unappealing as possible in an attempt to turn it into something else.

Fantastic experience: Great place to exercise. Wide slow, medium, and fast lanes in an indoor pool with a sauna as well. There's also a well equipped gym and fitness classes.

Positive experience: Update... they have now re done the flooring in baby pool. Car park close by. Easy to book swimming lessons online. My children swimming instructors are amazing. Have really helped with their confidence. Took a 2 stars off as the baby pool I would say a heath hazard. Floor is uneven and can see old tiles underneath, some of the equipment don't work. Equipment needs a deep clean. Bottom of slide was brown. Green mould around windows. Showers are horrible, no curtains and most of the time a few of the toilets are out of order. Loads of lockers broken and without doors. Only reason for 3 stars is for the swimming teachers and reasonable price for lessons

Negative experience: The shower area/toilets smell really badly. The instructors are quite rude. While my son who has some disabilities was having a lesson both the instructor and lifeguard were laughing at how he tries to swim. My son has had 4 lessons so far at this pool and each time we have had issues to the point I have now cancelled his membership and I’m taking him elsewhere. last week because they didn’t have the register for the session, my son was put into a lesson below his needs with children using arm bands and other floats. My son can swim 5m without aids. I would really not recommend this place for anyone. Shame I can’t give 0 stars.

Negative experience: I paid £18 for me and my children to swing after paying my daughter noticed she had forgotten her costume. After going back to the front desk asking for a single persons Swin to be refunded I was told this would take almost 30 days as we are not members??? So after asking a number of times for a simple refund we settled for free a swim next time I was told by the manager that I would receive an email with this stating a free swim that was on the 7th November and still no email and better yet you can't get through to anybody on the phone this is a joke and it's. Shame as the pool is nice.. needless to say I will not be visiting this poolagain

Negative experience: Disabled access and customer information- would give zero if I could- used to come here years ago and stopped coming as the lanes were changed so often- Checked that I could come and swim early in the Shallow side 3 TIMES- swam 2.5 out of 30 lengths from my physio prescribed programme today and told to move to a deeper lane - I can’t , as I am recovering from surgery and have to stop frequently.. Disabled changing rooms locked and reception staff unaware Manager and other staff kind and sympathetic, but couldn’t find a way to let me swim my lengths Not really a good start to the weekend Beyond disappointed

Negative experience: The studio at Hatfield swim centre is disgusting the floor is sticky and dirty. The studio door is locked so you can't prepare for your class treating you like un trustworthy child. The pool is ok but sometimes the water is cold. The toilets are a disgrace and most of the toilet doors don't lock.

Negative experience: Been a member for many years, and unfortunately this Year I've downgraded this gym from 4 starts to 1 and will also be canceling my membership.. Every year the price goes up and things get worse.. Closing times are getting earlier.. Kids are always in the gym destroying the equipment and playing around the work out area with no supervision ... Spa showers are always breaking.. All the good staff have left or are leaving..and the current staff don't really seem to care / don't really like thier job. It's a shame, I'll be now moving to pure gym for less and be able to use it 24/7

First time today in 6 weeks was I told I can't sit by the pool edge I need to go and sit upstairs.told them not going my son suffered from anxiety so not leaving. I was meant to sign my daughter up for the pool but never. Everyone I tell the gym I go to told me is the most dirty gym ever. Cancelling my membership in few days

Fantastic experience: This is a really nice pool to swim in, was real sur how good it was. To start with there is anfree carpark. There is a large clean changing area with lots of showers and toilets. There's also a spin dryer for costumes which is so handy. The pool is large with plenty of lanes. Be aware it's a 33m pool not 25m.

Positive experience: Many happy childhood memories with this pool. Alot of changes have been carried out but not all for the better (excuse the pun) The changing village is by far the worst thing about this pool. Always a strange smell and not always the cleanest. The changing booths are set out ok but you still get people walking poolside in shoes due to no barrier making the floor dirty. The pool itself is fab. 33meter long with 6 lanes. You quite oftern get pushed into a couple of lanes due to the swim school but i can honestly say Richard is one of the best teachers ive met. If your looking for lessons then ask for him. Has 3 diving boards that are never open for public use. The sauna, steam room and jaccuzi area is alright as long as eveything is working. Also has a gym and many classes that you can get involved with. Overall its ok. I go early sat and sun mornings to avoid crowded lanes.

Fantastic experience: Clean, fun, easy to book, easy to park and friendly welcome. It was our first visit to Hatfield Swim Centre and I was very impressed that we could park for free in Asda's car park for the couple of hours they permit. We had a nice welcome from the receptionist who explained where to go and what to do. The changing cubicles weren't too small for my 5 year old and I and the lockers were all working. As I write this it occurs to me that this shouldn't be a surprise but having visited plenty of UK swimming pools clean changing rooms, working lockers and working showers are not necessarily the norm. The children's pool was warm, big enough for splashing and practicing some swimming skills but allowed him to put his feet down at 1m depth. The toddlers splash area was a little tired with several elements not working or functioning but this didn't spoil his fun too much.

Negative experience: Went to the a birthday party yesterday (16th April) at 4.15pm. It was literally 5 minutes just after the swimming poolside induction. There was no explanation about the different depths of the pool from each side (left hand side deeper towards the diving board). They do a 10 metre swim and then are left on their own. There were 5 life guards there and none of them noticed my daughter struggling to tread water and was gradually going more and more under water. Bear in mind that they had already recognised that my daughter had struggled with swimming 10 metre (as per their test) and they had not given the wrist band to use the diving board. I was luckily at poolside and grabbed a float quickly to throw in to her. The alternative was to jump in fully dressed which was plan B (it was a knife edge decision to do this). None of the life guards responded. They had poor observation skills and I spent the remainder of the time watching all the children whilst walking round with a float, particularly my own daughter. I absolutely do not recommend this place and consider it a serious health and safety issue. I will be speaking to the manager after the Easter weekend. Beware if you want to go there for a birthday party or otherwise, and absolutely under no circumstances leave your child / children in their care unattended as they are not competent to deal with the situation. You have been warned!!!

Fantastic experience: Great large swim centre. Good sized kids pool and main pool. Main pool has swimming lanes and then a section where people can freestyle. They have a diving section too. Water temperature is always nice. Lockers and changing rooms are ok.

Fantastic experience: Very good size pool! Is one of the biggest around this areas! The staff are very welcome and helpful. Lots of changing room facilities and shower.

Positive experience: Still a great pool and place to visit, however over the years it has deteriorated in the cleaning and maintenance. I'm sure they are the all the same lockers, tiles and and equipment that has been there since I was a kid. Needs a revamp for sure but overall still

Negative experience: Disgraceful place all my 3 kids have been sick ill sickness and diarrhea for 3 days now... ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING PLACE!!!!!!!!

Fantastic experience: A smaller 25 meter pool that's quite shallow, but changing facilities and pool are well maintained. Staff are very friendly and it's not overly busy usually, so you'll likely have the lane to yourself in the early morning slots at least.

Positive experience: Kids pool is nice and warm. Staff try to be helpful.

Fantastic experience: Receptionist are friendly and polite gym looks very small but if no crowded this is best place to workout and I really like swimming pool it's huge
