Negative experience: Great facility. Really enjoyed using the gym and pool. I requested to freeze my account due to personal reasons. My request was poorly dealt by Emma Magari due to which I decided to cancel my account. She was very happy to process the cancellation.

Fantastic experience: I don't actually use the gym. I have been on a Joint Pain Programme with a rehabilitation specialist which I have found extremely beneficial physically and mentally. I also do Armchair Yoga which is not as easy as it sounds and it's extremely good.

Negative experience: Opted to use physio here privately. Physio was average considering it was private, he assessed, offered exercises etc. booked in next appt - all of which I could have had via NHS. He did state, if you can’t attend, make sure you cancel beforehand. Unfortunately, my husband had a motorbike accident which left me in a bit of a whirlwind however I cancelled my appt the day before. In that week, I received a hand delivered invoice for £50 for missing my appt. Disgusting considering 1) I wasn’t notified I would be charged and 2) I cancelled beforehand. Absolutely unreasonable. Definitely wouldn’t select this company again.

Positive experience: So I’ve only been a member here for 3 weeks and it’s ok but it could be better like when joined up the next day I came in and no one showed me around I don’t even know where the gym bit is I do suffer with social anxiety so coming here is a big thing for me and it’s the first gym I’ve ever been too and not been shown around and for the price you would think someone would be here to show me around. And the corridor to where you go through to the pool absolutely stinks of smelly feet it’s rank the hygiene of this gyms swimming facilities is nit the greatest and that smell needs addressing asap. I am going to try the Preston one out as I’ve been told by another member that that one is much better but as this one is only near my house it’s just more convenient but things need to improve and staff need to be abit more professional.

Positive experience: The Bolton branch is uasually very good and ld give it a higher rating- but it fails miserably with a certain group. The aqua aerobics classes. During kids holidays and busier times, it seems acceptable for people who are not part of the often very busy classes to be allowed into that part of the pool... so, here are the issues. Lack of adequate room to move up and down the pool- hence the tutors having to adapt the class to accommodate this- that was a point today the tutor made, then lack of adult care and supervision for younger children... allowed to jump in, getting far too close to participants, swimming under the water where they can't easily be seen etc, all health and safety issues. Also its not a contact sport! what is even more disconcerting is the STARING- as this class is mainly ladies it is inappropriate and unacceptable to have people sat on the side, directly in front of the class( literally half a meter away) staring down cleavages. If the managers think l'm exaggerating about any this, l suggest they look at their pool camera footage! I look after a young lady with special needs and she says this behaviour distresses her, even though she is further up in the pool -so the constant not being able to relax and enjoy the session makes us feel its not worth running the gauntlet. This could be easily remedied- one, only allow the aqua participants in that part of the pool for the very short duration of the class, or cordon off another lane in the pool for none-swimmers to use the steps at the other side. Its not rocket science! Yes l have complained- and while l appreciate it is a family gym it is also a place to relax and not have to feel that the class participants are undervalued- after all no one would be able to wander around in any other class getting in the way and being disruptive. Some respect from users and staff alike for this class would be much appreciated !

Negative experience: Was a member for a few years until they told me my 6yr old son could not swim in the deep end with me as a adult class was on in the pool even though other children already were there. They couldn’t tell me the pool capacity limit. 1 life guard said it was fine and the other stopped us and told us to use the already full small pool only. Asked to see risk assessment to see numbers allowed in pool and to count the people in at the time but the manager would not do this. Shame as my son was enjoying his lessons there. Definitely not a family club as at half term there is adult swim classes most of day with 15 mins intervals at peak times which is not enough time for children to enjoy. Membership cancelled as not paying for a service we can’t use.

Negative experience: Save your money and go to a cheaper gym like The Gym, Pure Gym or JD Gym. Insidious cancellation policies, making it inexplicably obtuse to cancel as they force it through email which has a minimum 3-day response time, closed down their jacuzzis but kept the membership price the same, equipment is reeeeeeally old and tired, “new equipment” they bring in are cheap gimmicks that no one really uses, the elliptical machines are inconsistent with some forcing you to exert more energy than the one beside it. Accessibility is terrible for disabled users as there’s no lift with all the main equipment on the upper floor (most of the equipment downstairs is for abled users only)– quite an oversight for a brand that has hospitals. Disabled parking spaces are constantly taken by cars without blue badges, and are placed further than child parking which is absurd.

Fantastic experience: I joined here a month ago, very nervously, as I am really not fit and have a lot of weight to lose. Everyone has been SO friendly and helpful, and I've been using the pool a few times a week and it's been clean and welcoming, and never overly busy. The steam room and sauna are great, and the changing rooms have private areas, and a swimming costume dryer. I'm so glad I took the plunge (literally!) and it's a bonus that they do a Blue Light discount.

Fantastic experience: Love this place think we should put david to win on the screen I love him

W “PATw” P 1 year ago

Negative experience: Decent gym and never too busy however not worth the £50 per month membership. Changing rooms are very old and really need a renovation. Equipment is decent but no stair master?! Overall it’s okay but definitely not worth the price you pay!

Fantastic experience: Very clean an spacious place for fitness lovers, I will hugely reccomend this place in a great location, brilliant facilities and nice friendly staff

Fantastic experience: Nice Gym Because There Is Alot To Do And It Is Never To Busy. The Downstairs Is Great Because It Has Alot Of Cardio And Ground Equipment Then You Go Upstairs And It Has Alot Of Free Weight And Cable Machines. 100% worth the price because you can get free classes with a gym membership

faaz khan 1 year ago

Negative experience: Very unhygienic and there is always something wrong either with gym equipment not working or no water in the gym

Empress Kemet 1 year ago

Positive experience: For me the gym is what I want I am upset that the jacuzzi has gone but I felt it was quite small anyway and often over crowded. The pool area is usually very clean and now the saunas are cleaned between 12-2 I feel more comfortable to use them regular. The changing rooms are always clean and the showers. Great hair dryers! (Rubbish swim spin dryers.) I’ve never experienced any rude staff members although one of the female PT’s is slightly dismissive when she has clients. The classes are really good I love body balance which is a fast paced yoga, spin is great although I’ve not had the courage to attend as yet but overheard many speak good of it. Hiitstep is perfect for me as I need to be motivated and this is achieved well in this class. The cafe is the biggest disappointment to the gym it only has cold food overpriced wet sandwiches but the coffee is great. Protein shakes ok too but pricey(but same as retail so..) The WiFi is good it has a great area to relax or work just behind reception. Kids club is great crèche is great session times could be longer. Sometimes a few machines are out of order but there are always plenty to use. You can always find space to do free weights on the gym floor and permanent mats upstairs to stretch. The TVs always work music isn’t too loud and over powering. (Can still hear your own with earphones) The main wish’s for me is I WISH THEY HAD A STAIR MASTER! Even just one they work much better than standard stepping machines! I wish they still did hot food and lastly treatments after work out massages are NEEDED! Plenty of parking at Bolton, this review is only in relation to Bolton

Positive experience: I swung by this gym, and it was like stepping into a motivational speech on steroids. The staff practically high-fived me into fitness mode, and the gym equipment was flexing harder than a bodybuilder on leg day. But, and it's a big but – no jacuzzi! I was ready to sweat it out in the gym and then soak in a bubbling cauldron of relaxation. Alas, they didn't get the memo. So, if you're cool with sweating without the sizzle of a jacuzzi afterward, this gym is like a sitcom workout – tons of laughs, just without the bubbles.

Curtis 2 years ago

Positive experience: I tried the place; it's okay but needs a bit of improvement. The gym lacks investment in new machines and has resorted to turning the jacuzzi off while increasing the monthly membership costs. They don’t repair their out-of-order machines for weeks at a time. Upon arrival at the gym, the majority of the time, you get greeted with a forced ‘hello’, and when you respond, they’re not listening as they’re too busy looking into their computer screen. On leaving, some receptionists are so busy chatting amongst themselves that they don’t even acknowledge your exit. However, not all the staff are like this, and some are very courteous. The cleanliness is good, with the showers being regularly cleaned and the changing rooms also being clean. The classes are great, especially the spin classes I used with experienced instructors. So, If you want a bog-standard gym with spa amenities and free classes, this is the place to go.

Negative experience: If I could give no stars I would but it isn’t an option! Over the last few months really gone down hill (service, facilities, cleanliness). A real sense that nobody cares, rude staff and a real negative and toxic environment, always hear staff moaning.

Fantastic experience: good feel

The Optimist 3 years ago

Negative experience: The spa facilities are accessed by having to wander across the cafe area of the main club in your robe, really awkward as it’s very bright and not much atmosphere in there. The two ladies on reception at the spa had the charisma and warmth of a wet sock. They were incredibly moody and unhelpful, really not a warm welcome. The treatments were really good actually, and are the only thing that stopped me giving zero stars.

Dean Thomas 3 years ago

Positive experience: The gym is decent but there’s so much equipment out of order and it takes forever to fix, once that is fixed there’s something else out of order to replace it …..

Vladimir Levachyov 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: I really enjoy the facilities here. Specifically - the sauna/steam room and pool are really good. It's worth a day's trial, either way! :)

Pauric Shea 3 years ago

Negative experience: Way oversubscribed. It's almost impossible to get on any machines. May aswell join some cheap budget gym. Music needs sorting out too

Mo Rosh 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: New Reception staff on 29/12/21 was super friendly and welcoming. The gym for its price is as good as it will get. Cheap membership and it has great gym facilities including a boxing ring with 2 bags, swimming pool, kids pool, sauna, steam, jacuzzi, big lockers and a dedicated safe car park.

Angela Kay 6 years ago

Negative experience: Poorest service I have ever experienced Having been a member at this gym for many years, I have rolled over when Nuffield took over. The worst service ever. The classes are acceptable, but for the many friends I have made over the years, I would go else where. I know many people have left, and I fully understand the reasons why, there is absolutely no way you could advise of any issues to affect positive changes. Put up and shut up, is the moto Nuffield have ' they aren't paid to accept any critisism'

Positive experience: Nice gym staff friendly never a problem getting on equipment, pool a problem the slow lane always swimming lessons and the fast lane is what it says, problem is I'm a slow swimmer and I think I'm in the way of other members. The spa pool is small and does get full, other than that I do enjoy going.

Michael Morrison 8 years ago

Negative experience: Joined 2 weeks ago and gym is way over subscribed. More or less impossible to get booked on a class around 4pm-6pm. Looking to cancel.

Wayne Green 8 years ago

Positive experience: Clean, good equipment, friendly atmosphere.

Kevin Gribbin 8 years ago

Negative experience: Very poor. Specifically joined to go before school with my 12 year old . Was told no problem. Went 2 mornings no problem. 3rd morning some jobsworth receptionist looked my son up and down like he was scum and refused him entry. Seriously there wad probably 5 people in the gym. Cancelled membership. No apology nothing. Join David Lloyd totally worth the extra and family friendly. If I could give no stars I would.

Clive Jefferies 8 years ago

Positive experience: Good facilities, would be nice if the pool was a bit bigger.
