Everlast Gyms - Selby: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Five stars for Olivia, the cleaner in the ladies changing rooms and showers. Olivia is working so hard and making the areas look better than I've ever seen them. They are beginning to sparkle! It's hard work to do this and Olivia puts a lot of effort into the cleaning. I really appreciate it. Thankyou Olivia
Fantastic experience: Best gym around
Negative experience: Facilities are not well cared for (I can only speak for the female locker room): lockers with a random mix of bring your own padlock and no locks/keys whatsoever; shower doors without handles; the grouting in the shower floors so worn down that you can see the little plastic spacers the tilers used; intermittent lighting in the ladies lavatory (which is dangerous when the floors get wet and the lights flicker on and off); bench leatherette tops ripped; and the jacuzzis haven't functioned since covid lockdown ended. Staff are completely disinterested and unmotivated; you can usually find them with their backsides sat on the reception desk their backs to patrons faffing on their mobile phones (their rear ends near snack products for sale); or see them precariously perched on the tiny little shelf behind the desk. If you complain to head office, you get a generic copy/paste reply and nothing else. This gym has absolutely gone downhill, it requires stricter management and a team of handymen/women to give it some desperately needed TLC.
Positive experience: Poderia ter equipamentos mais novos
Positive experience: Nice friendly gym. Find it strange that the cleaning stations have been taken away
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities for the price, cheaper than the council pool in Selby and much better equipped and cleaner
Fantastic experience: Great gym, super friendly staff!
Negative experience: Cheap and cheerful gym, pretty much the same as sports direct is run, with teenagers,(cheap pay) Overall the gym is ok decent machines very busy after 5. Chav central then,The the pool is ok does the job,No jacuzzis and they aren’t getting fixed. Lots of people that spend more time posing in the mirrors taking pictures than actually training, dressed like absolute idiots The water fountain is always broken!! How hard is it to call a plumber ? Run by kids that’s why
Fantastic experience: Nice pool.
Positive experience: As a person who has attended this gym for over a year and has experienced multiple across the country this is a very average gym. 25% is full of the cheap technogym line (yellow and black machines) 25% is free weights and the 'purestrength' line (Red and black machines) which are really solid machines to use. The other 50% is cardio miscellanea which i have no interest and limited experience with. However the air condition has been broken for months and the water fountain has been out of order since the start of summer. If they fixed these issues I'd increase by at least another half star but the biggest issue is 5-7 pm when it's bear impossible to do a structured workout as it is PACKED. They must invest in either expanding or even just increasing the quantity of the purestrength line or replace the mainstream technogym line with better brands (like nautilus, cybex, ect) if they were to do so I'd be willing to pay a slightly higher price. Due to these issues I've had friends who have left and I am also considering this, however the commute to a higher quality gym (like world fitness in Doncaster) is too far at the moment. Edit: They've now fixed the water fountain but the LED red lights around the weights section are either broke or no longer get turned on.
Negative experience: I'm was an member at Everlast since July last year until I quit today. The staffs at Everlast Gym are friendly. The hexagon pools are not working, the few lockers are broken, the staffs replace keys with rubber wrist band thing to padlock. I quit going to the gym and swimming pool at Everlast. Not recommend this to everyone who wants join membership at Everlast.
Negative experience: WIfi never work on this gym.download music before come to gym cause there is no signal and no wifi working
Negative experience: On the hottest day of the year, the air conditioning for the gym wasn’t working. Fair enough, these things happen. On the same day, the water fountain was out of order, so there was nowhere to refill water bottles, and had been out of order for weeks. The place is a joke. They’re quick to get you to refer a friend to the gym, but don’t reinvest any of the membership fees (expensive I might add) in to updating equipment and sorting out the problems they have there. There’s always something out of order, the changing rooms are seriously outdated, mens toilets and shower blocks are disgusting - the list goes on. UPDATE: the leg extension has been out of order now for over 8 weeks. When you ask staff, you are given no sense of reassurance that this will ever be fixed. The air conditioning also hasn't worked AGAIN for the last couple of weeks. This has supposedly been 'upgraded' recently, but the gym is always stifling. Completely and utterly ridiculous. UPDATE AGAIN: Air con still not working. Gym is an absolute oven. Won't even let you open some doors in there to get some air flow through. Place is an absolute dive and is in serious danger of going under when a new competitor gym opens up in the area.
Fantastic experience: Lovely clean swimming pool and changing rooms. Nice pleasant and friendly staff. Worth a visit.
Positive experience: Was fairly quiet at 2pm, so able to use equipment without waiting. All seems to be in working order. More busy when I left at 4.30. Hygiene stations still in place, seemed clean. Some areas, lockers, showers are now showing their age. 11.11.22. Sadly must add now that they have stopped the hygiene stations, you need to bring your own wipes if you are in the vulnerable category.
Fantastic experience: Recently joined this gym to go swimming and the staff were amazing. I have never been a regular gym goer so this experience was slightly scary and i was expecting judgment the second i stepped through the door. I was so wrong. The staff were amazing, really helpful and friendly and made me feel so comfortable and welcome. The lady that first greeted me (not sure of her name) spoke to me when i came in and she told me that she started working there as she just enjoyed being there as a gym goer herself and i can completely understand why. She said the classes are brill and actually made me feel welcome to join in. Its a shame the jacuzzis dont work but i can definitely look past that. I am not a confident person at all and wanted to start swimming for a while but couldn’t bring myself to do it because i was scared of not fitting in or feeling out of place. So this review is purely just to say a huge thank you to the ladies that i spoke to for not making me feel stupid or unwelcome and making me feel relaxed and at home.
Positive experience: Good, but no lockers even though the gym was empty.
Negative experience: I’ve been going to this gym for years and years and never before has it been this bad. It offers pool and facilities but the ‘facilities’ are NEVER working. The steam room is always broken, so are the hot tubs and there is no eagerness to fix them; “they’ll be fixed soon” when is soon? Because it hasn’t been fixed for about 2 years! Did you know it now closes at 6pm on a Saturday? Not sure about what time on a Sunday but for this member it doesn’t matter, I’m signing up somewhere else tomorrow. I don’t think I’ll ring them to cancel either because last time I rang I was on hold for 30 minutes before giving up. Oh and also, everyone’s gym membership cost varies wildly depending on who signs you up and when you signed up - you’re probably paying much more than everyone else. This post isn’t even out of spite, the gym is just awful, don’t go.
Negative experience: Why close at 6pm on a weekend, this place needs a big 24/7 company to take over and invest some money.......total dive atm.......
Negative experience: The staff at Selby are amazing all very helpful particularly Bev. But there is a major problem at Selby regarding the lack of heating . I do not know how a company of your size seem incapable of resolving this problem. This has been going on for months, we are now in the winter months and it is absolutely freezing in the gym particularly the changing rooms so much so your feet ache when you take your shoes off because the floor is so very cold. We have just recently had some very cold freezing days and from personal experience I can assure you that is is warmer outside than in the changing room this is not acceptable. A number to members have sent emails regarding this problem yet nothing gets done. The staff at Selby have also reported the problem with the heating numerous times . Two friends of mine who are in there 70s are not going to the gym at the moment because it is so cold this is simply not acceptable that they are in this situation because you as a company seem incapable of getting the heating repaired . Can you please resolve this issue urgently and get the heating repaired so that we can all go back to enjoying our gym. I look forward to receiving your comments Regards Judy
Negative experience: After being a member for 15 years, I have recently left this place. The gym is filthy and un-maintained. Some of the equipment is actually dangerous. Jacuzzis and steam room have not been available since reopening after COVID-19. As a result of all of this, I've noticed people care less and less about the place and treat equipment with no respect. While this doesn't apply to all of the staff, most of the time upon entering the gym, the person working on reception seems barely able to look up from their phone or away from the conversation they're having with the other staff member. I speak to lots of people who say the same thing and nobody is really sure what purpose the staff actually serve. After 15 years, it is very sad to see the decline of what used to be a very well run, clean gym and welcoming environment. It certainly isnt a place that feels conducive of health and fitness.
Negative experience: The prices do not represent the service and facilities, much too expensive
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful manager
Negative experience: Visited the website to look at the accessibility notice to find their wasn't one, the only mention of being accessible is parking and changing facilities.
Fantastic experience: Good pool and gym with lots of friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Fab lesuire facilities.. The staff are so friendly helpful and welcoming! The pool is amazing and I find it relaxing after a full work out training! Caters for everyone's needs.
Positive experience: Excellent equipment and pool, not too busy.
Positive experience: The steam room is now working, but the jacuzzis and the Starbucks machine haven’t worked for the three years that I’ve been a member. It needs a bit of investment to reach its full potential. The colour schemes are dated and the tiling needs work. You can still work out, and the spin class is great.
Positive experience: Plenty of parking and good facilities.
Negative experience: Customer service is appalling. Emailed 3 times dating back to September to cancel my membership with no response and have now been told that I can't cancel because all the time we have been in lockdown gets added onto your contract term. I haven't used the facilities in over 18 months now, and will not be going because of the ongoing situation, but I am still being charged for it. Person I spoke to eventually couldn't have been any less caring or helpful. Very poor and absolutely ridiculous. I was considering starting my membership again when I am no longer working from home, but will definitely not be.
Negative experience: The facilities are fine but the customer service is none existant. If you try to phone them you are pur in a queue at no 16 and when it gets to no 1 there is suddenly a system fault and you cut off. Tried email they say the will respond within 48 hours but no response 2 weeks later. See also truspilot. Do not join.
Fantastic experience: Very covid aware and very helpful.
Fantastic experience: Clean and newly decorated. Members socially distancing . Good to be back!
Positive experience: Some equipment is really old. Still serviceable. Decent gym, does what it’s supposed to do. Staff are friendly too. The pool, sauna and steam room are amazing.
Negative experience: Used to love this gym been a member several times. Now asked to leave and cancel my membership as I'm moving away. But because of a worldwide pandemic I have to pay my membership for another 3 months. Never heard of anything like it. Refuse to do anything else. I wouldn't join this gym unless you know your going to be a member for over a year. Oh and then if there's a lockdown you may as well add that time onto there as well.
Fantastic experience: Its called Everlast Fitness now and it is awesome..better than ever..
Fantastic experience: Covid procedures all in place and great equipment
Positive experience: Great jym lovely staff, very clean, also personal trainers to help you out if you need
Fantastic experience: Got everything you need
Fantastic experience: Just joined DW great gym! Staff very friendly and helpful. The gym equipment is very modern and lots of choice. The changin rooms are very clean and spacious.the gym is also clean with paper towels and spray to clean the equipment after use. The atmosphere is great too, no posers which is good, all shapes and sizes. The reviews I saw on here do not match up with what they are saying! I joined the selby DW from Leeds DW and was a little apprehensive because of the reviews on here. I was shocked because the staff are friendly and the gym is lovely. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone.
Negative experience: Myself and my partner have recently started swimming on a weekend, as I'm pregnant and it's really good for me and the baby. We've been to Selby Leisure Center the last few times but it gets quite busy so we thought we'd try out here to see if it would be quieter. We asked for two adults to swim only to be told it would be £10! We questioned this and they explained that its members only and the £10 would be a day pass. We were only planning on being there half an hour so we asked if they did a day pass, only to be told no (which is a complete lie, if you go on the DW Fitness website you can sign up for a 3 day free pass. They didn't even bother to offer this to us) They then asked if we wanted to become members. Why would I want to tie myself into a contract with a fitness center? I'm 5 months pregnant and probably won't be exercising for a while after the baby arrives, AND I only swim once a week so it wouldn't be worth it. The lady (who I imagine is one of the managers, as she was called to the reception to talk to us about the price) was super sassy too! Definitely won't be stepping foot in there again, even if I was considering a membership at some point. No wonder Selby Leisure Center gets so busy when this is one of the alternatives. It only cost £7.50 for two adults to swim as opposed to the £20 these cowboys tried to charge us! The facilities at Selby Leisure Center are really good and the staff are friendly and helpful (which is much more than I can say for these guys).I know where I'll be spending my money.
Positive experience: Can't fault the staff, they're great. But the facilities really let this gym down. So-so equipment, grubby bathrooms, unreliable Wi-Fi - the monthly price isn't justified.
Negative experience: New equipment very good.staff friendly and helpful.classes are good. The down sides are.the jacussies are never working both together very often.at the moment there not working AT ALL.the showers could do with a good servicing.and clean you cannot alter the setting very well. We pay a lot of money for our membership and we would like value for money. You don't even get apologies or explanations when things dont work.
Positive experience: 3 stars ⭐️ Comapnared to other DW’s gyms but exactly what I would expect for the location .. 4 ⭐️ for the gym comparison in that location, not a bad little place would definitely go again staff are helpful so can’t Nock the customer service would just like the lockers to be upgraded to recive the card instead of tokens or coin
Fantastic experience: Great gym and pool facilities
Positive experience: You can lift heavy things here, you could even get really lucky and get yourself a locker and, if the planets line up, the steam room might even be working too
Negative experience: Decent size with a reasonable amount of equipment/free weights. I guess it depends on when you go - all gyms are too busy in the evenings. It doesn't help when you have the obligatory 3 young lads chatting and taking forever to get thru 5 sets of 10 each. Or the lone-trainer who spends about 10mins on his phone between sets - what's the point? As per previous comments, the air conditioning either doesn't work or doesn't get switched on, so extremely hot in the summer. Equipment is v slow to get repaired - one of the jacuzzis was out of action for about 6 months. Can't comment on showers or sauna as I don't use them. Another complaint is the horrible sound playing through the speakers (you can't call it music really) fresh from the "Now That's What I Call Shit Gym Music 75" CD. Dreadful.
Negative experience: Poor quality cardio equipment and my training sessions with one of the female trainers were not very motivating. Air con is rubbish.
Positive experience: Good gym and shop not the cheapest in the area though
Negative experience: Such a shame this gym has not been maintained shower floors have ground in dirt . Always run out of soap and wash bags . Ladies shower area really cold .This use to be a lovely clean maintained gym
Negative experience: Overpriced
Negative experience: This used to be a good gym. Not now, though. Staff are friendly enough, but not well skilled; too many machines do not work properly; showers are always cold and there is seldom soap available; gym floor is not clean. My annual subscription is due soon but I will not be renewing it.
Positive experience: Very good store with great equipment for a good price.
Negative experience: Been a member for years, canceled membership due to dirty run down changing rooms Equipment not working half the time Steam room hardly works two whirlpools only ever one in use could go on !!!!!!! owners just not bothered as long as they get their money
Negative experience: The air con is switched off in summer, machines often left out of order for months and the pool is always full of children having swimming lessons
Negative experience: Several reasons for my rating as detailed below: So the gym itself isn't too bad its crowded but aren't all commercial gyms? I did however have some issues with the equipment there. Firstly, the leg press machine, I'm 5ft 3 and basically whatever I am leg pressing due to the barriers that hold the weight being so high up I have to be able to calf press the weight back up. Not so bad you might think if you only leg press 100kg, but try calf pressing 300kg after 20 reps on the leg press, its actually very dangerous because theres been times when I couldn't calf press it up and was in real trouble. Secondly, the only pullup bars reachable for me at my height is the assisted pull up machine. This is obviously very busy as alot of people can't do bodyweight pull ups I don't need the assistance but as that is the only place I can reach I'm forced to wait around for it. The rope pull machine was broken for months and months when I first started and not fixed. The cables at the far end towards the swimming pool, sometimes they are smooth as you would expect but if others are using the cables, the cables become sticky and tight like there is a much higher amount of friction which is incredibly frustrating. The DB's jump from 30kgs to 34kg to 38kg to 42kg to 46kg. Each stage is a big jump from the one below and that's frustrating. The air con has broken at present and it is really really warm in there. Above all for the low star, it is incredibly difficult to cancel your subscription with them. I asked to cancel this in person but was unable to process it as he needed his manager but was unable to give me a time when his manager was available. Since then there is major roadworks occurring around the area which will essentially mean that means my travel time to the gym would be in excess of 30minutes much of which in stand still traffic. So now I'm practically not able to go down there - now that's not the gyms fault but if it was sorted when I asked to give my notice in the first place I wouldn't be in this position. Furthermore I gave my notice through email which isn't accepted for some reason most likely because it makes it more difficult to cancel! So I tried to ring, first time I was on the phone for 25minutes and nobody answered. After been on hold so long I had to hang up as there office times had now closed! I then had my girlfriend ring on my behalf during the day after another 30minutes on hold she was unable to cancel as I had to cancel myself so thats 55mins which to my amazement has cost me £24.75 in additional phone costs and still yet to be resolved. Basically the shoddy handling of this cancellation coupled with an average gym means I will never sign up again and certainly won't be getting my recommendation.
Positive experience: Very pricey to swim if not a member. Shop above is OK with a range of most sports things. Lift available for pushchairs/ wheelchairs
Fantastic experience: Member for some years, clean, friendly staff, great trainers
Negative experience: This place is disgraceful. After being a member for some years, I decided to terminate my membership as I wasn't using it. I gave them a months notice, as did my husband. We were called back the following day to ask if we were sure that was what we wanted to do. We again gave them our notice to end the membership. A month later we received a phone call asking why we hadn't made that months payment. We told them we had cancelled and were no longer members. Apparently the member(s) of staff we spoke to hadn't followed the correct procedure when terminating a membership. Not my problem. Fast forward a few months and we are being harassed up to 3 or 4 times DAILY from a debt collection agency as they claim we have defaulted on our contract. It doesn't seem to matter how many times we contact DW, they will not stop the harassment.
Negative experience: These people are thieves. They try and tempt you by great offers but do not process them If your circumstances change considerably and you cannot continue with your membership application process (within 3 days), they will not exercise their discretion and discontinue. They are insistent that their contract does NOT include a cooling off period. My grandmother is ill in hospital, and they will not cancel my membership unless I provide them with a letter of proof from Warwick hospital where i will need to be near. Absolutely disgusting and shocking behaviour. I will be going to the press regarding this. Name and shame.
