Our comment from FitFit UK about Keswick Leisure Centre:
Keswick Leisure Centre is an amenity known for its family-friendly atmosphere, featuring a fun pool with a beach-like sloping entry, which is ideal for children. The centre offers a wave machine and a water slide, making it a delightful spot for kids and families looking for recreational activities. The gym facilities are well-equipped, catering to various fitness needs.
However, it is important to note that the swimming pool has been permanently closed since 2020. Many visitors expressed disappointment regarding the lack of up-to-date information on the website about the pool's status, leading to several wasted trips. Users have highlighted the need for clearer communication about facility availability to avoid misunderstandings.
Despite these setbacks, visitors have praised the warm and friendly staff, who strive to create an enjoyable environment. Parking is available nearby, making it convenient for families visiting the centre. Overall, while the lack of a functioning pool is a significant drawback, the commitment of the staff and the amenities available still make Keswick Leisure Centre a popular choice for fitness and family fun.

Keswick Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: No swimming pool!!!!!
Negative experience: Website either isnt up to date or isn’t clear. Pool is closed and led to a wasted trip. Rather than letting people turn up, just make it clear.
Negative experience: POOL IS CLOSED! Disappointed that no information about its permanent closure is provided online, on its website, or in its recorded greeting. It had not reopened since COVID. Gym equipment now stands in the kiddie end.
Negative experience: Nice place, nice staff, bizarrely though, no water in the swimming pool! Apparently it’s been missing for 4 years!! What on Earth are Better playing at! Surely a swimming pool needs water? I think the town has enough water, and the people deserve a pool? Could do better, Better!
Negative experience: No water in the pool since 2020. Sad.
Negative experience: Didn't visit its closed up
Negative experience: Why can't the council or gov of England invest some money in family-friendly places like this! A few nice swimming pools around the Lakes or at least keeping this one open in Keswick would be a big plus for families and tourists alike but also for local businesses in Keswick as it will boost tourism. I was planning on visiting the pool with my family. I noticed that there are hardly no nice family pools with some slides etc for the kids. We are from Holland and do find this a bit
Negative experience: It's closed, probably for ever.
Negative experience: POOL CLOSED Turned up to Keswick Leisure centre to use the pool only to find it has been shut since COVID. No mention on website.
Negative experience: It's closed
Positive experience: Bank of Concept 2 rowers ,hone to Lakeland rowing club but also available to Public and well equipped gym with Fred weights and machines
Negative experience: Arrived today, 10th October 2023, to find the swimming pool is drained. I did check the website before hand and couldn’t find anything that clearly states this, nor could I get through to someone when contacting the number for the leisure pool. Disappointing and frustrating for the family.
Negative experience: No card payments on parking, portable toilets in the car park were overfilled, swimming pool closed and to top it off they wouldn't let my pregnant partner us the toilet inside the centre.. it's a real shame as the pool looked brilliant for kids.
Negative experience: There's no pool at this pool?!
Negative experience: Still permanently closed (20/07/2023), presumably due to lack of funding according to the locals. Only the gym is opened. A pity cause it seemed to be a nice place.
Negative experience: Visited to find it closed until 19th June. Start of the Keswick to Threlkeld railway path, temporary WC 5, number portable toilets in a row! opposite the old station that was closed. All 5 WC were absolutely disgusting overflowing with piles of excrement. For a tourist area like Keswick it was terrible. The amount of money that comes into the area isn't acceptable.
Negative experience: It's shut biggest disappointment lovely pool too
Fantastic experience: Good spot to park your car. The pool was dry
Negative experience: ** DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ** Ignore the out of date road signs and the misleading website, this pool has been closed for several years, with no plans to reopen. Outrageous !!!
Positive experience: The car park only accepts coins
Negative experience: Very sadly closed. Looks like it was an amazing pool.
Negative experience: Con: The lack of water in the pool made it difficult to swim. Pro: Saved a lot of time not having to get dried.
Negative experience: It's closed
Negative experience: Keswick Pool is permanently closed
Negative experience: Website says pool open 2pm to 8pm. After travelling from Bowness arrived to find pool closed with no water in it. Obviously not going to be open for sometime. Grandaughter had being looking forward to this. Please update your website to avoid unnecessary travel and disappointment.
Fantastic experience: I grew up in the lake district and learnt to swim here as a youngster. I have so many good memories of this place and have always loved the pool and building design. I heard the pool closed due to covid - the water then went stagnant and the council started telling people the building is past it's service life and has a crack in the pool floor foundations causing the water level to slowly dissipate. Personally I've heard this one before elsewhere when the local council doesnt want to pay the upkeep and try to cnvince the public as an excuse to let things go to save cash. I can tell you we used to travel 15 plus miles to go here so the pool is not only a loss to keswick javing no pool, but to a wide surrounding area plus tourists bringing in custom and money , especially being a leisure pool. I hope keswick council see the light and undertake some repairs to the exterior etc as the pool and building still look surprisingly sound and in good shape bar a lick of paint and window cleaning! The pool meant a lot to a lot of people and like me have had much fun there over the years. Please reopen it!
Negative experience: Needs reopening. Such a shame that a popular town and bustling tourist centre suck as Keswick no longer has a pool.
Fantastic experience: As I holiday owner that has pool/gym memberships for 20 year + & have always had a nice time using the facilities with family & friends. So, it would be courteous if the management teams/owners could produce a short/long-term strategy for the Keswick Leisure/Wave Pool, so that all the locals/schools/holiday makers can plan their activities, as Keswick must deserve/warrant a pool facility. I can appreciate that the centre building may not be fit for propose as it is, but like all older pool building they need upgrading. There seems to be quite a lot of new public development on the West Coast of Cumbria, that is not mirrored in Keswick/surrounding areas, which is very disappointing. Keswick must be the most popular location in the Northern Lakes & not reopening the pool, must go against the Governments Drive/DforE/Swim England etc Initiatives, as swimming is included in the National Curriculum especially in Primary, so we are failing these young people, especially in an area with so many water hazards. So can the Allendale Council/Trustees etc please get together & be gracious enough to let the people know what the plans are for the future!!! Thanks you Gary
Positive experience: Alright
Negative experience: Can't give zero stars... or even minus stars for that matter
Negative experience: Was closed to kids when we visited 2020, and June 2021 they announced they do not want to reopen as it is too much money. This is a huge loss to community and to tourism
Fantastic experience: A little dry at the moment.
Fantastic experience: It’s a great little pool with friendly and caring staff. ...it gets busy in school holidays but it’s not always busy.
Fantastic experience: Well situated with plenty of parking.
Fantastic experience: Leasure pool was great.it is completely closed and providing free parking for all the poor motorhomers looking for somewhere to park
Positive experience: Over priced, and a bit dirty, good things in it tho, wave machine and slides
Positive experience: Complicated and time consuming queuing and booking system. pool okay but small
Negative experience: I don't hate it as such but I'm not even sure if it will ever reopen with the current covid algae problem. Don't swim don't care.
Negative experience: Closed. The pool has been closed for months but looking through the window it is filthy
Negative experience: Much better since the changing rooms finally got a refurb. Pool is always too cold. Staff are usless (the woman in uniform behind the desk told me she didn't know she didn't work there). The pool desperately need improvement as its out dated and plenty dangerous in places, loose tiles, bad bodges finger traps, loose drainage surrounding the pool the list is endless the lack of investment in the facilities obvious and glaring. There rule about no buoyancy aids beyond this point is ridiculous (it has to be seen to be believed) All in all a tepid experience.
Negative experience: Old
Fantastic experience: Good size fun pool with flume and waves. Good size spectators area
Hi Sandra, thank you for giving us 5 stars!
Positive experience: Viewed pool from outside looks good and busy
Hi Peter, thank you for you review
Positive experience: Good place to go but there's only a pool and a slide.
Hello, thank you for giving us a 4 star review! We also have a wave machine, a gym with cardio & resistance equipment, we also run water workout and yoga classes throughout the week :)
Positive experience: Not a great pool for swimmers, staff good and helpful.
Hi Peter, thank you for your feedback! Great to here you find our staff helpful.
Fantastic experience: Tu popływać można z przyjemnością.
Hi Jacek, thank you for giving us a 5-star rating!
Positive experience: Too busy, really hard to park, small pool
Hi Sarah, thank you for our rating.
Positive experience: This place needs extending and the pool making bigger otherwise good facilities helpful staff
We hope you enjoyed your visit!
Positive experience: Looking a bit dated now but still functioning well. New changing facilities an improvement.
Hi Stuart, thank you for your feedback, we hope you enjoyed your visit.
Positive experience: Visited on a wet day, very busy and the pool cramped due to the numbers.
Fantastic experience: Yss
Fantastic experience: Brilliant pool, good facilities, well priced
Hi Graham, thank you for giving us a 5 star review! We hope you enjoyed your visit.
Negative experience: I've been to this pool about five times now. Firstly, do NOT expect to get a wave and flume experience, often the wave machine is turned off and the flume closed. Secondly, always ring in advance to check when it's open to the public (do not trust the website). Thirdly, always bring cash (on at least two occasions the card reader hasn't been working). Fourthly, get there before the public pool times start as they only seem to let in about 50 people. This could be a great little place for all ages to enjoy but, unfortunately, it isn't. It's designed to be a fun activity, especially for children, but is instead run as a municipal swimming pool (when there are loads of hotels in the area that have swimming pools that the public can use if they want). A wasted opportunity and we won't be going back again.
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere and friendly staff
Thank you for giving us a 5 star rating! We hope you enjoyed your day!
Fantastic experience: Great little pool with wave machine and slide. Sessions are fixed time slots so best to check their website before making a trip or else you could arrive and only get limited time in the pool.
Hi Stephen, thank you for your feedback, we hope you enjoyed your visit.
Negative experience: I do not recommend it it can be very boring the slide was not open when I was there
Negative experience: Absolutely shocking, staff basically could organise a drinking session in a brewery! We queued for about 40 mins waiting for a session to start. Basically you can’t turn up, pay your money and go in you have to wait for a session to start. If that session is over subscribed to have to wait for the next session. 30 years ago as a kid, my local pool used to operate a similar system where you were given a coloured band to wear and when your band was called out you had to leave the pool. It allowed them to over lap sessions, not at Keswick though; it was everyone in and everyone out, which results in times when the pool is completely empty! Anyhow once you’ve battled through the queue, paid your money and being fortunate enough to be one of the 160 people they allow into the pool, you get to enter the locker rooms, clutching your nice new £1 coin, as advised by the front desk to be able to use a locker, alas no, the lockers don’t take new £1 coins (the ones we’ve had to use since March 2017) most take Trolly tokens and old £1 coins, only a few take the new ones, fortunately as I’m taller, I was able to use one of the lockers above 6 foot high which happened to take the new £1, the ones the less mortals can’t reach. And into the pool we went, where the clock doesn’t work; the queueing system for the water slide is appalling, where everyone queues, a youth in a uniform stands at the bottom of the steps and sends someone up the stairs, stands their picking his nose waiting until said person pops out of the water slide into the pool and then sends the next one up. This wastes so much time, the staff member needs to be at the top putting the next one in as the last one pops out into the pool, this would half the time it takes to go through the process, speeding up the flow of people and surprisingly would half the queue! Anyhow; at the end of the session 160 people all jump out of the pool, run back to the locker room where the 6 showers trickle water of you, ok trickle is too strong a word, it’s more like dribble water over you! Then the fun starts, 160 people, 40 lockers, 2 hair dyers, so it take another bloody hour to get out of the pool get dried and get out of god forsaken hell hole! Next time we’ll just got for a swim in the lake, it’s got to be less stressful than this pool. On a positive note, the water was lovely and warm, though that was probably from the boiling blood of the parents in the pool!
Positive experience: We are on holiday here boys loved the pool Could do with a coffe or tea machine for those that don't swim and watch .
Thank you for your review Elaine, we are glad your boys loved their visit
Fantastic experience: Very good check on times before going
Hi David, thank you for giving us a 5 star rating, we appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic experience: The tots session is really good for taking young children (under 4’s). The pool and the changing rooms are nice and warm.
Hello Garan, thank you for your feedback we hope you enjoyed your visit
Negative experience: Was great until they added sessions
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Thank you!
Positive experience: Very helpful friendly staff. Very informative with up todate information.
Hi James, thank you for your feedback.
Positive experience: Decent pool for young inexperienced swimmers, due to the gradual sloping pool. Not really of much use to serious swimmers, as the deep end is only 1.6m and there is no practical starting point. Often overcrowded on Sunday's, to the point where it resembles a glorified bird bath. The water slide is good fun for younger and older children alike. Unisex changing facilities, but there are decent sized changing rooms available.
Hi Richard, we appreciate your feedback, thank you.
Negative experience: Terrible public swimming times during school holidays
Hi Paul, thank you for your feedback. Our new pool timetable is now online for the coming school holidays, we hope we can improve our rating.
Positive experience: Changing rooms are large enough unless it's really busy - like when it's pouring down! Have seen the queue for entry going around half the building! The pool is good with a sloping shallow end which is great for babies and younger kids or letting their parents lounging around in the water. Waterslide is good fun though be prepared to queue! Highlight is the wave machine which is usually used every so often while you're in and is great fun. Cafe offers drinks and snacks with poolside seating so nice to sit and relax while the kids swim.
Hi Nick, thank you for your review.
Fantastic experience: Grandson loved the waves and the big slide .it was a bit busy because of half term so a big crush in the changing room when the session ended
Hi Wendy, thank you for your feedback, we are glad to hear your grandson had a great time.
Positive experience: The pool has a really fun tunnel slide - part of it is black so great for older kids. We went during Aqua Splash time as they have a wave machine which is activated periodically. This is very gentle so more appropriate for primary school kids as is the pool as it is mostly shallow.
Hi Julia, thank you for your feedback, we hope you enjoyed your visit.
Positive experience: We come here every year on our residential. When it's all up and running it's great but every year we have some problem with our bookings: communication from staff is poor; information from staff is lacking or incorrect; management seem unwillinging to acknowledge their responsibility in bodged bookings. Whilst here staff are capable & friendly. Advice - always double and triple check your expectations, especially if booking a group.
Positive experience: Value
Positive experience: Pretty small kids pool and gym in Keswick, it does the job, the gym is new and refurbished but still very small, the pool is more for kids so isnt really useful for swimming, there are much better pools and gyms but none are in the town so this is as good as it gets
Fantastic experience: Excellent pool
Positive experience: Good leisure pool. Has wave machine and and slide.
Negative experience: Dirty dirty dirty
Fantastic experience: Family friendly pool. Water slide. wave machine. Parking to rear. Easy walking distance from Keswick.
Positive experience: Good fun pool, wave machine and slide. Not suitable for length swimming.
Fantastic experience: The leisure pool is always our first stop as the kids love the beach like swimming pool. Wave machine a favourite with my eldest.
Negative experience: After numerous emails they still keep my contract running while charging me. Don't know how this is acceptable after I've asked over 2 months ago to cancel
Negative experience: It's wet and with kids!
Positive experience: A small sized pool with a slide and wave machine. Have been here many times. Reasonable priced, clear and has easy access.
Fantastic experience: Great pool especially when the kids locally are at school and we have the whole pool to ourselves.
Fantastic experience: Great for kids
Negative experience: Stood in a queue for about an hour and forty minutes, at least an hour was outside, we gave up when we realised that there was no guarantee we would get in before closing time. They should have signs saying 4 hours from here etc , a complete waste of time.
Fantastic experience: Great for rainy days. Lovely staff.
Positive experience: Nice fun pool with half hourly wave machine
Negative experience: What a shame this facility doesn't have lane swimming. There are many adults, myself being one, who would greatly appreciate this addition. It appears that recreational swimmers take presidence over those more interested in exercise.
Fantastic experience: Walk in pool ideal for people with joint problems
Positive experience: Great place to go when a bit damp, good flume and wave machine, kept the kids happy for a couple of hours
Positive experience: I took two of my children here (3 and 7 years) for the aqua splash hour. They had great fun. I feel like the reviews give mix messages and there are some pointers that would be helpful for parents which aren’t really mentioned on the reviews. Parking; there is a pay and display which you can get refunded or if you pop in reception seem to give you a ticket for free because you’re using the facilities. Arrival; with myself and two children to help get ready I always arrive 15minutes before the session so we can be ready and we can make the most of the time in the pool. However I discovered on arrival that they don’t allow you to pay or go in until five minutes before the session which equated in standing in reception with two very excited children for ten minutes which felt like an eternity. The staff were great very polite and helpful. Changing rooms; it’s communal there are changing rooms some with baby facilities, family change rooms and individual rooms. The lockers were good also as there were smaller ones and family ones. The family ones are huge my three year old could stand in it. The pool is nice. It’s an odd shape and not very deep I believe the deepest section is 1.6m. So I wouldn’t recommend for someone wanting to go for a decent swim but fun for children. There is a small slide for young children and a large tubular slide for bigger ones. Children under four CAN go on the large slide providing they go on with an adult. On the website the aqua splash session had been described as having toys and floats to play with which it didn’t. It did entail the wave machine being turned on twice during the pool session. This was great fun and the children enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff were organised and plenty were on hand to assist if needed. A lot has been said about how clean it is. It’s dated, it looks tired and the tiles have gone an off colour. However it was clean. My biggest issue was water on the floor in the toilets, changing room and around the pool there was an awful lot of puddles which a member of staff could be sweeping away a couple of times a day would really make a difference. I have seen it done at other pools so it can be sorted. The other important thing to note is that their cafe is no longer open. There is seating still to eat if you brought your own. I was very disappointed with this as the website has a menu and prices up still also! Staff were apologetic and had good local knowledge of where you could go. I would recommend this as a fun activity to do and if the website had been more accurate and they were on top of puddles more I would of given it 5stars.
Positive experience: Nice warm pool
Positive experience: Wave machine not as good as it once was
Positive experience: Quite busy when I went, but very fun wave machine! Also my brother and I enjoyed the water ride thing there too.
Fantastic experience: Good afternoon
Positive experience: It's a very nice swimming pool with lots to do but there are a few to many rules.
Positive experience: The pool is fun with a wave machine and slide. Not a lot of room for actual swimming though as most of the triangular pool is shallow from the sloping entry. Good for little kids though. Would go more often if it wasn't so expensive.
Fantastic experience: Good for the kid's and it only cost me £15 for two children and myself.
Positive experience: Fun for the Kids, pool tiles and gym could do with a clean though
Negative experience: Credit is due to the charity for keeping this pool running - it seems that it is not run by the local council. We only visited the pool (not the gym). Pool is good for young children, but is not suitable for swimming as it too small, shallow and irregular shaped. Slide only staffed by 1 person, so very slow and long queue. Changing area very noisy and crowded on Sunday afternoon. Many of the large lockers still use old £1 coins. Toilets unpleasant. Showers crowded. I guess this pool is ok in winter, but it cannot handle the influx of us tourists in summer! I hope they can make it work as it still a good facility to have for the town.
Positive experience: Has a beach like slope into the pool, great for small kids
Fantastic experience: Wave machine and water slide, brill.
