Fantastic experience: Bailey and Georgia were amazing! Super friendly, helpful and welcoming! I popped in today to enquire for swimming lessons for my two kids and they went above and beyond! I cannot recommend them enough, any questions / support you need regarding leisure you must speak with them. BONUS - they actually know how to communicate with customers and smile! (which is very difficult to find these days)!!!!
Negative experience: This place is always dirty and to be honest we pay for my son to get teaching lessons but there are many kids at the same time and not enough time for all of them to learn properly!
Positive experience: Nice new facilities but poor layout. Women's changing rooms are cramped with no clear wet and dry areas. Showers small. The unisex area looks massive but exposed, seems to be taken over by men and women don't use it and I couldn't see any private showers in there.
Fantastic experience: Excellent swimming pool
Negative experience: I went in on the weekend to an over crowded, stuffy and extremely hot gym as the air con had broken down the day before. I would have expected an email. Now trying to call to confirm if this has been fixed but you cannot get through to anyone. Cancelling membership unfortunately.
Negative experience: I made a verbal complaint to management regarding the booking of classes as twice I turned up to a yoga class that I had booked and had difficulty getting a space. I complained that some of the yoga instructors are not turning up for their classes on time to ensure only people that have booked attend the classes. I was given the excuse "Oh it's to do with the layout of the class" and " You know what it's like in the gym at the beginning of the year" I also put my complaint in writing as many of the replies to other reviews suggest and I did not get a response. Things go wrong in the day to day running of things. But if you are looking for a management team that will take your concerns seriously and act on them, I would NOT recommend Southgate Leisure Centre.
Negative experience: The Southgate women's showers are absolutely disgusting. Hair everywhere, no maintenance and the shower pressure is absolutely shambolic. You'll have to wash for 30mins to be clean. The floors and the walls have limescale and dirt. The price you pay is not worth the germs. It stinks in the showers of sewage drain. Please don't leave your cleanser or any valuables it'll get stolen like mine did. Whoever took my Anua face wash hope you get acne for life :) oh and to add the sauna and steam are unbelievably dirty. The sauna has to be the most vile, the walls have lighting so it shows all the dirt and sweat of others on the floor. The steam rooms just stinks of damp. This lesuire center needs TLC asap.

Positive experience: Love the new equipment but why are there so many young children? (Under the age of 16.) I've noticed over the last 2 months that most of them treat the place like a youth club and stand around the machines chatting instead of working out. This uses up a machine that could be used by someone who takes their gym time seriously. I've also noticed them playing on the machines in a dangerous way e.g. pushing themselves to see how fast they can sprint on the treadmill. If there is an age limit this needs to be enforced better. It's really putting me off what I would otherwise class as an excellent experience.

Negative experience: People writing good reviews must work for this company. Sounds like nothing has changed here. I was hoping and waiting to see if changes would be made. Positive experience: Since the refurbishment it's improved a lot, BUT: the music in the gym is far too loud and the floor in the women changing room is covered by so much hair you could open a wigs store.

Fantastic experience: After a 3.5 year hiatus, it feels great being back at Southgate. The reception staff are so helpful, and Maria and Loretta’s combat classes are fantastic as always! By way of feedback to the leisure centre as a whole, I would welcome more later evening classes; particularly aerobics, body conditioning/body attack, later additional spin classes (and more combat classes too if possible?) There were previously more evening classes from 6pm onwards on offer before I left and these would nicely accommodate those of us, (the vast majority of us) who have to work full-time, as not all of us have the ability to attend the day classes or make it on time for a 5.30 pm class. I have every good faith that this feedback will be taken on board by Better and I look forward to what Southgate has to offer on its timetable going forward.

Fantastic experience: Since the refurbishment under the new not for profit manager this place is now competitive with the local private gyms. Great equipment in the gym and well organised swimming sessions. The aqua splash inflatable was brilliant please make sure it continues in the school holidays

Fantastic experience: I have moved to the area from central London and this gym is absolutely wonderful. The facilities are great, The classes are done by experienced people and there is parking space that can accommodate people during peak times. I am Very pleased with this gym!

Fantastic experience: I joined here just under a month ago and super happy. I pay a student membership of £35 a month and get classes, gym and swimming included which is a fantastic deal for students! New gym looks amazing after the refurbishment. Excellent classes and the app is easy to navigate with lots of options to suit everyone

Fantastic experience: The staff at Southgate Leisure Centre go above and beyond to look out for their customers. I have been a better membership holder for a while now and swim very regularly at a couple of local pools. I recently had an issue that the Taosif the concierge dealt with quickly, reassuringly and immediately resolved. The pool itself is clean and well managed. Highly recommend

Negative experience: I used to go to this gym for years, left for several years to go to puregym and this was the first time I came back. It’s disgusting…the most dirty, rusty gym I’ve been to. Clearly they’ve been bought out by a company that’s cut costs by not replacing equipment that was there when I was going before, literally full of rust and broken machines.
Negative experience: I've been a member of "better gym" since January, however I have since cancelled my membership. The centre manager refused to let me freeze my membership whilst they closed the centre for works. They offered alternative gyms but these were inconvenient. And I've had to put up with 6 months of broken equipment

Negative experience: We have been swimming here twice in the last month and unfortunately the pool is absolutely freezing, the last time my daughters lips turned blue! It’s our local pool but I will not be returning. I heard recently that others have the same problem with the pool being to cold for kids.
Negative experience: Just very dirty, very smelly , sticky, flies in the shower, broken showers and health and safety risk. Needs urgent attention on the above mentioned issues and refurbishment and industrial clean in the meantime Related all of this to the manager on duty
Negative experience: Avoid if you can! The most disorganised swimming school I've come across. DD's swimming lesson was cancelled today, DS's was not. Went into Southgate Leisure centre a bit early to double-check, was told by reception that his class is going ahead & hers was probably cancelled because "a lot" of people complained 2 levels being taught by same teacher (note: there were only 3 kids in last lesson, 2 of them mine, so that could only be 1 person complaining). Anyway, sat in cafe, then got DS ready for his lesson, waited, and then got waived over by a different level teacher who said DS's lesson is cancelled too as teacher is away & they don't have cover. Got DS dressed up, went to reception to complain, was told here's the manger, and the "manger", who btw couldn't be bothered taking her eyes off her mobile said it was her break & didn't want to hear anything. Very disorgsnised place - avoid if you can. Shame, because the swimming teachers areactually good.

Negative experience: Im a gym bunny, this was not a nice experience. The gym floor needs a refurbishment. Half of the equipment is rusty, the cable machines were squeaking. The mats need replacing. It looks very tired and was actually really depressing to work out in. The studio is right next to the gym floor and the teacher decided to open the door during the class so I had her music and voice coming through along with the gym music. The sparkling new cardio machines look completely out of place. This is not a value for money centre. I'd stick with offpeak Puregym.
Negative experience: I booked a sauna and steam today 16.03.24 at 08.00hrs and when myself and my wife arrived, there were a dozen people waiting outside in the rain, unable to get in as the building was locked and no staff was on site. We waited until 09.00hrs and still no staff turned up. Better ?? I think better and fusion are the same rubbish service
Negative experience: I have been coming here for several years and was really hoping that when 'Better' took over there would be improvements. Other than a coat of paint following 3 days closed, the place is just declining rapidly. The changing rooms and toilets are always filthy. When you do see cleaners they are just sitting around on their phones in the changing rooms. Black flies still everywhere! Regularly no paper towels or sanitizer to wipe equipment. 50% of the cardio machines not working and various other pieces of equipment have been broken and left for months. Aircon is never switched on - a gym floor shouldn't be warm! 100% avoid this place!
Fantastic experience: Used the swimming pool for the first time and was very pleased. Staff were welcoming and assisted with my padlock issues. The selection of swimwear, googles and swim caps was very good for those who hadn't had time to buy these items elsewhere (me!). All facilities including showers, passageways and changing rooms were clean. The pool itself was divided into three ample width lanes which allowed good swimming, overtaking opportunities and none of the aggravation that sometimes accompanies a crowded pool. The water temperature was very pleasant, water cleanliness was good and overall it was very nice to spend an hour there.
Negative experience: Worst gym in the area, Better have recently bought out Fusion. They have increased the membership price, with the facilities getting even worse. The changing rooms / toilets must never get cleaned, half the equipment in the gym is broken. I recently called better customer service so get some light on what changes will be made and they cannot give me any information, there are no signs of improvements so I wouldn’t bother becoming a member here.
Negative experience: Equipment left unfixed for half a year now, "Better Leisure" took over and so far has just gotten worse. Opening time later now so no one can go before work anymore. Great job guys... Lazy.

Negative experience: Thank god the place is being taken over after a shameless shambolic decline in all areas. Let’s hope the new owners are better than the last so I can rejoin.
Negative experience: Swimming sessions are regularly cancelled. I book, pay and then the booking is cancelled and when I try to book for later in the week all sessions are booked up. It’s absolutely filthy. Drain flies in she showers and this has been a persistent problem for months and is not dealt with. Drain flies breed in dirty drains. One particular male lifeguard is alway on his phone chatting, trying to pretend he isn’t by wearing AirPods and covering his mouth. Overall a very badly run centre.
Negative experience: The swimming premises, changing rooms are not clean. The lockers do not have keys, so there are theft incidents. I asked using sauna many times but I was informed that the sauna was not available as there is a staff shortage. I could not use the sauna since I started. When I try to stop my membership because of not using the sauna, the employees are not able to do it, or they do not want to do it, they always tell me to do it online also the website is not available to do this, I could not do it on the website. I have been paying for 5 months without getting any service. It is unacceptable as I became a member especially for using the sauna but I could not use it. So they are not in compliant with the contract. Please stop my membership and refund my 5 month membership fee.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, facilities a bit tired but it’s the community that matters and this is on point. It’s a great atmosphere in the centre.
Negative experience: I have tried to come here 2 times and have failed 1st it was no space left inside pool 2nd excuse was pool was being used in a group session and was closed to the public. I give up. No more tries. And if you spend 15 minutes or more in the car park you get a complimentary parking fine. Absolutely useless.

Negative experience: Sadly on the decline. Everything from machines out of order, leaking ceilings and even car park bushes overgrown. Completely neglected and underinvested. Feel for the amazing staff who do a great job but are continually let down by management. Avoid!

Negative experience: If I could rate this as Zero stars, I would! If you are unsatisfied with the service, You will never get refund from them. I enrolled my son to swimming school, after first lesson I requested refund (as the swimming school did not meet our expectations, they enrolled 12 years old boy to the group of 5 years old, while he can swim very good ). Today is nearly 3 month since that date and I still did not get the refund. I walked in few times and every time was the same: we will pass your details to someone (manager, senior manager, whoever) and they will contact you. No, they never contacted me. I would not recommend this “leisure” centre.
Negative experience: Asking a question to the receptionist. You need to check it on our website. Asking another question. You have to check it on Fusions website. And another question. You have to surf in our website! What the hell are you sitting there for (not standing)?! I guess they could just get rid of the receptionists because doors open automatically anyway if you have the membership card. And if you dont have one you need a doorman not a receptionist. Thanks Fusion. Again.

Negative experience: I have to go there because there is no gym in the area. It is filthy; the machines are rusty and worn!
Negative experience: Have been using the centre for years but it has completely declined recently. Early morning swim sessions cancelled on a weekly basis with little or no notice. How there is no contingency plan for staff calling in sick is beyond me, instead they are happy to close 1/3 of their services and put their customers out. Pool areas and changing rooms have grown increasingly dirty and unloved.
Negative experience: Morning swimming classes regularly canceled, without any notice. There should be contingency in place. Obviously management do not care about the impact on the customer.
Positive experience: Pool is usually clean and in good temp, changing rooms as clean as they can be. Staff seems a bit disengaged with poor control over divers. Also, not very helpful over the phone and good luck chasing up refunds

Negative experience: Honestly these guys do not like to answer phone calls. Benn trying to call for the last 2 days and nothing. I had to physically go to there just to ask a basic question. sorry guys but this is not how you start a relationship with your new customers.
Negative experience: Giving bad service a whole new low. Pool and wet areas are cancelled more than not due to no staff available. Disorganised staff from top to bottom. The left doesn’t know what the right is doing. I would give zero or minus stars but 1 is the lowest possible score. Google should introduce minus stars just for Southgate leisure centre
Positive experience: Staff more helpful than e.g. Tottenham green. Nicer seating for the pools. Still run by fusion - so you have same admin issues re: swim school
Negative experience: I visited the pool where my children learned to swim just a few years ago. Shockingly delapidated and unhygienic. Orange mold on tiles near pool. Filthy showers with black mold. Changing rooms tired and worn. What a shame to let such an asset fall into such a state!
Positive experience: I use the swimming pool only which is good and 33 metres long so great for Lane Swimming. However the men's changing room and showers are not well maintained or kept clean as they should be. Staff are friendly.
Negative experience: I only use the pool so my experience is limited. But swimming requires pre booking. if you prebook and cannot make session or leisure centre cancels, it is not returned to you. You are also unable to cancel sessions online. The whole booking system is archaic, it pains me that my and everyone else's taxes are paying a private company to run an awful system with filthy in need of repair facilities. Such a shame

Negative experience: EDIT Jan 2024: This gym is now run by Better. They’re slowly making changes so I will update my review once they seem to have settled into the centre. Original review under Fusion Lifestyle March 2023: I’ve been coming here for a few years now and have used the gym and pool. The pool is 33m and pretty deep and well-warmed which is nice. However, it is rarely clean and over-chlorinated. People in the fast lane also of variable speed and lifeguards do not invigilate. I prefer swimming at the London Aquatics Centre - it’s well worth the commute. WiFi is generally quite reliable and fast. The gym is a stressful experience. It has most of the equipment I need, but my gripes are: - machines that break stay broken for months. Staff don’t seem to care about fixing them. - rusty equipment. When I put things on racks I can see plumes of rust coming off them. It’s not healthy to breathe that stuff in. I come out of there with orange hands sometimes. Most of the equipment needs updating as one day things will break mid-rep and cause injury. This happened to my brother when a rope snapped mid-set and almost dislocated his shoulder. - variable staff quality. Some are great and tidy up but others don’t replace any cleaning equipment and let the gym descend into a tip. - increasingly more teenagers hogging equipment in areas where they are not permitted to be. Please keep them out of the free weight area as they will hurt themselves and also takes this equipment away from people who know what they’re doing. Again, this is a staffing issue. - use of space leaves a lot to be desired. There are plenty of free rooms which are never in use and instead the gym has one squat rack, one bench press, and two benches. This is far too little. Extend the gym to other rooms so there can be more floor space for other equipment to ease demand. In fact, I’ve previously found staff hiding in the free rooms on their phones. - they’ve been using the same music playlist for a year now Cleanliness and maintenance is appalling. The toilets stay dirty for at least a week on occasions. I’ve had to ask them to refill the soap in the men’s changing room twice in a month. The showers have mould and grime. People shave and leave their hair all over the sinks. As I said, the pool is dirty and gym equipment rusty. Turnstiles at the front desk have been broken for many weeks. It doesn’t give a good impression. Car park is large and it’s well-located. Closing at 4pm on a Saturday and only an hour later on a Sunday is ridiculous. Please extend the hours. I’ve voiced all of this in written feedback to Fusion yet nothing changes. I only come here because the other option is Puregym. It does the job, but if another gym opens, I’ll be straight out of here. Shame the staff have become complacent about keeping this place to a decent quality. If staff were responsive and fixed these issues as they arose, then I would not need to write such a long list of complaints. I rarely complain but I’m seriously considering leaving.
Negative experience: Enquire about a paid membership and they'll literally haunt you. Phone, email or message about anything else and you'd have a better chance of getting in touch with Michael Jackson. Why have a phone number or any form of contact at all if absolutely no one ever answers customers?
Negative experience: Do not trust this leisure centre. Over COVID and lock down they continued to take our standing order. When my wife cancelled the membership they did not cancel the direct debit and refused to refund. Do not trust this company as they will steel your money.

Fantastic experience: A great swimming pool to have a good workout. Free parking as long as you use the machine after you finished. Make sure you put your licence plate in, otherwise you will be charged by the parking people Swimming was fantastic. Mixed changing rooms though just in case you're unaware
Negative experience: Fusion Lifestyle for two years now is closing at 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Please update your information because you are misleading your customers. What is more, it is RIDICULOUS to close this early! Please do something, otherwise you will lose us as members! And please add at least one more bench in your gym. It is not enough!!!
Fantastic experience: I am unsure as to why some individuals have given this place a low rating, claiming it to be unclean and not worth visiting. However, since enrolling just a few days ago, I have become captivated by the wide variety of activities available and the cleanliness and warmth of the pool. Therefore, I highly recommend this place.
Positive experience: Classes are good and staff are always pleasant and helpful although, as others say, it’s not possible to contact the centre other than by going in. When I joined, table tennis was freely available to book but now it very rarely is as the room has been taken over by ju-jitsu amongst other things. A real shame as this was one of the reasons I joined & none of the other centres offer table tennis, only badminton. I promised my son membership too but unless table tennis becomes available again, I probably won’t bother.

Positive experience: At a loose end so booked a class here. Not been to Southgate LC for a few years now. Not as many classes as some of the other Fusion centres but definitely cleaner and seemingly better maintained. Enjoyed the class.
Negative experience: Used the pool on Monday and it was FILTHY, there was a pile of sediment at the bottom. Spoke to the person on reception on the way out who said that the filter had broken the week prior and it was taking time to deal with the backlog?! Surely you close the pool until it is clean or drain it.

Negative experience: Fast lane afternoon slots tend to attract a cliquey much older bullying crowd. I spoke to the lifeguard but felt I was being blamed for a guy who kept purposely swimming towards me and very close that he almost hit me- do they know how dangerous that is? The lifeguard briefly intervened before leaving him to continue as before and allowing other swimmers who he clearly knew to start ganging up on me. There’s little space in the other lanes compared to fast lane, and have every right to swim where there's space that is safe for women where others share. Reception said they'd try and improve as they’ve had a few other incidents. I cancelled my membership because the centre tolerate this passive aggressive behaviour from mainly older people and also for a few other reasons. Been coming here for many years but not worth paying the fee while waiting to see if things change.
Negative experience: Despite an excellent, large pool and convenient location the experience today and during past visits is frequently poor with lifeguards seemingly unable/unwilling to challenge badly behaved customers about their behaviour. This includes large groups of teenage boys jumping in repeatedly making it really difficult for other kids to actually practise any proper swimming. During today’s visit there were also a group blocking the lanes and either not swimming properly or ignoring rules on direction of swimming making it very difficult for others to use the lanes. Poolside staff seemed oblivious until it was raised at which point they briefly intervened before leaving them to continue as before. Staff often seem more interested in chatting together at one end of the pool than actually being on duty to keep people safe and ensure a good swimming experience. All of these issues could be easily resolved with staff taking a more proactive approach. Positive mention for the member of staff on reception who is always helpful and professional.
Negative experience: Been waiting for 5 months for my refund staff members never answer emails, phone calls etc. Been in contact with the manager to ask updates about the refund no response came back to me also their receptionist did not know information about refund timescale very upset situation some staff members doesn’t know how to guide people to for canceling their membership and the money was keep coming out from my account which was their shocking for me as I thought she guided me correctly and members got canceled however not…
Negative experience: Amongst other broken machines on the gym floor (for months and months), only 5 treadmills are working and the other 6 are out of order. The management are not repairing anything yet still taking full price for membership.
Negative experience: The pool is a great size & has potential. But the centre is always dirty, most of the staff are unhelpful and no one ever answers the phone.
Negative experience: Came to swim with our toddler but unfortunately, never again. We’ve been coming here for years, used to be members too but not anymore. The place hasn’t improved at all over the years. You should be able to come for a swim and get changed without freezing! My toddler was shivering when we got her into the changing rooms. Doors don’t lock in the cubicles, its really dark which makes life harder and its absolutely freezing. Yes covid has impacted everyone and cost of living is rising but I’m sorry, if you’re going to provide a service then it needs to be done properly. A real shame Only plus side is the poolside was warm.
Fantastic experience: Southgate It is a great centre, staff very friendly, beautiful swimming pool, I highly recommend Southgate Leisure Centre .
Negative experience: Nice place and great swimming pool, but fusion-lifestyle app ruins all the positive. Impossible to book anything for 2 weeks now.

Negative experience: Google reviews go back 6 years detailing the not fit for purpose website, non-existence of other forms of communication, poor response rate over e-mail and telephone, and the (at best) hit and miss helpfulness of the reception staff. It really should not be this difficult to have a swim in a public pool. It is past time that someone was hired who is capable of managing this place.
Positive experience: Great local gym and swimming pool. The gym equipment is a bit worn but totally useable. There is a huge variety of equipment. I like the Wattbikes that have the MTB cleat pedals which is good for winter indoor cycling. A great mix of gym machines and free weights. There also lots of fitness classes which are heavily subscribed to by women, just book your place online. The swimming pool is very deep, about 5m in the deep end but 0.9m in the shallow end. There are lots of swim classes throughout the week. The changing rooms are clean with cubicle showers and changing cubicles too. Lockers are big just bring your own padlock. Parking is free but gym users need to type in their car reg in reception.
Negative experience: I used to come here all the time and never had any issues until now that they hired a rude and ignorant lifeguard. South asian lifeguard was extremely rude and shouting at people. When I tried to explain to him in front of his manager, why he shouldn't shout at others, the guy tried to paint me as a liar but my sister and another lady were witnesses and proved that I was right. Absolutely terrible service from their side and the "manager" wasn't any help either.
Negative experience: The communication is appalling , I’ve sent numerous emails to enquire about swimming lessons for my 6 year old grandson, I get a reply back saying they will contact me in 72 hours…..nobody has contacted me and this is now been going on for 2 months. When you ring the centre nobody answers the phone and you are directed to a voicemail that says no more messages can be left as it’s full. It’s just totally unacceptable.
Negative experience: Being a member is not enough. You can only swim for 1 hour. In the morning. Online info isn't good enough, not clear, and no one answer the phone, so what for!! this contact number on the website!!!
Negative experience: Never answer the phone when you have a question, which is not answered via their FAQ online. I can only assume that the staff don't want to help customers and prefer chatting to their friends. This is something I see often. Shame really. I best go elsewhere. With regards to the facilities, I only use the pool. Sadly, in the shallow end it has a strong smell of urine. Not sure what has happened. The water is warm though, hopefully not linked to the smell.
Fantastic experience: It's with another management *BETTER* now. The better does good so far. The new management refurbished entire centre also adding sanitary stations at gym area.
Positive experience: Been swimming here a few times. Really enjoyed the lane swimming sessions and found them easy to book on the app. Overall good facilities and a nice pool. Only issue is difficulty getting through to anyone on the phone and couldn't book my free session on the app.

Negative experience: Terrible service. Online system doesn't work. Never pick up the phone. Impossible and very unfair for people who want to use it. Awful . Don't go
Positive experience: The facilities are great but I wish it was easier to book online for my son with his swim school. He is entitled to book extra swim during the week but cannot get him registered to book online and when I call they never pick up the telephone. The website is not great either.
Fantastic experience: Always welcoming and helpful staff, clean and pleasant and lively centre among all the other Leasure centers in Enfield which are always dirty, unhelpful staff.
