Positive experience: Signed up to this place through hussle. Gym is tiny. All the pool facilities are as advertised but the pictures are misleading in how nice they make it look. In reality, the place is dirty and clearly not maintained regularly. Won't be going back.

Emails took over a week to respond to and with no way of calling and actually speaking to someone. They offered me some dates when I could come, I respond in 24 hours, after 9 days they replied that sorry this date i staken already and we were playing like that for 3 months. At the end I lost my money...

Positive experience: Too many hotel guests using the pool as the people actually paying for the service are unable to use the pool. Hotel guests don't tie their hair when swimming and don't wear pepper swimming attire

Negative experience: Sadly, my experience is the same as many that have reviewed this place. I was brought a spa experience by a friend for Christmas. Trying to book this was a nightmare. Emails took over a week to respond to and with no way of calling and actually speaking to someone. Initially they tried telling me my voucher was out of date...(it wasn't). Once they admitted it was in date (3 weeks in to the process) they proceeded to tell me there were no packages left and I'd have to upgrade to a 'bonus' package. The email exchange was dismissive and at times rude. After agreeing to pay a £19.50 'admin' fee to upgrade I demanded confirmation in writing as something was not sitting right with me. Again, a week on I got confirmation that the fee was per person, which I had not agreed to. I requested they honoured the voucher that had been purchased but all I got back was a short.....I'm sorry, we cannot help you. I have contacted the voucher company and they have refunded the value. They also informed me that they were no longer allowing this spa to advertise as there had been so many complaints.

Negative experience: I was supposed to have a spa treatment at this place. Booking was to be managed by emailing Wax Angelsz. I tried booking a slot for a month, with their replies taking over a week to reach me (despite them saying they'd reply within 72 hours). Whenever I got a slot offered and emailed them to confirm the reservation, I was told (again, weeks later) that the slot they suggested was taken. After a complain, I got a one-month extension for my voucher. Again, Wax Angelsz suggested a slot. I replied literally 3 minutes later to confirm the slot, and it took them 2 whole weeks to get back to me only to say that slot had been taken (how it could have been taken in the 3 minutes it took me to reply to them is beyond me). I do not believe this service was anything but a scam, and I recommend everyone to stay away from Otium Health & Leisure Club and any services where Wax Angelsz is involved. As a student who saved her money to be able to give herself a relaxing day, this experience has been more than demoralising. Stay away.

Negative experience: Warning, DO NOT USE WAX ANEGLSZ AT THIS PLACE. Ok, so not sure where I should start with this one, first of all as soon as I tried to make contact with this business, it took them more than 5 days to respond to my booking request, by which time the actually slot I have requested was booked one day prior, and the lady Angela (Code-name Rita) said there's only a bonus slot which is extra 17.5 pp. I agreed to pay the extra charge, and after having to send about 3 emails to get a confirmation... I tried to look for them on Google maps, but their location is permanently closed, and there's no sign of them on trip adviser, beats me how these guys are still in business. When we arrived it turned out the time we were given was for the actual treatments, so we didn't account for time to get ready and lost about 20 minutes of our treatment time. The actual treatments were good, at least mine were, but my wife said she got something that's more of a cream rub rather than a massage,. When I asked about lunch the lady said that we missed lunch and she's the same one who told us to come for 14:00 and lunch ends at 13:30 as she claimed, when I tried to challenge that, she actually took an attitude with me and said: "you actually bought a voucher (which was for £70) so you can't expect 5 star service". The moment she said that I realised I'm dealing with someone who lacks the very basics of professionalism and customer service ethic-ate. So in the end I ended up paying £120 for getting a 30 minute treatment and access to what's called a spa but it's more like low mid range gym with out of order sona and a steam room that's fully packed.

Negative experience: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. A truly awful experience. I was bought a wowcher for christmas, when I tried calling them there was no answer. I emailed instead, after waiting three days for a response, I got an email stating that none of the days I requested were available ( I gave a load of dates I was available). The only way I would be able to redeem my wowcher was If i purchased a facial too (An extra £40), when I complained about this, I was offered a discount on the facials but I don't want a bloody facial, I just want what's on the wowcher!! It doesn't even make sense, the date I want is either available or it's not, they wont even tell you the dates they have available because it's just a con. They are absolutely horrendous, i'm currently trying to get a refund from wowcher.

Negative experience: Horrible customer service! Do not waste your time. Nobody answers the phone as apparently the therapists themselves are on reception? Then when asked to book with a wowcher, we get told that they have no availability but can book us in only if we pay extra and take on a facial as an upgrade to our package, to which they have no set prices as a lady told my friend it will be £20 in total and I got told £20 each! The lady on the phone was also really arrogant and rude. DO NOT GO THERE unless you want to experience bad customer service and for them to take every penny possible from you!

Negative experience: After booking a deal to attend the spa via Wowcher, I was looking forward to attending - however after 2 months of back and forth emails (it is not possible to book over the phone), they could still not offer a date on any Friday or Saturday without trying to 'upsell' you with added bonuses at an extra cost. The customer service was also substandard, with email communication lacking the appropriate level of etiquette or promptness of reply. I would recommend avoiding this spa.

Negative experience: Awful customer service. Have bought a spa day with Wowcher and still waiting to get an appoinment. Staff rude and really unhelpful. They just ask you for more money to give you a date. Not recommended.

Negative experience: This place is terrible! Please please please if you’ve booked it via wowcher, exchange your deal to something else! It’s really not worth it and they lie. I bought my deal In September, and was refused to be given a booking. My deal was ending in February, and the lady (Rita) kept giving me weekdays which I couldn’t attend due to work. I tried to make early bookings in September for December and she still wouldn’t give me any although they were available. After a lengthy email, I was given the booking. When I got there, I was told I had to pay £30 for a facial which I wasn’t made aware of. I was told that if I didn’t pay for it, I wouldn’t receive any treatments. So me and my friend paid in the end. It was like we were literally bullied into it. Then we were asked to go into separate rooms to receive the massage. My friend had a terrible experience! Rather than making her feel relaxed and putting relaxing music on, the lady put on loud music about Jesus on with YouTube adverts in between. It’s quite sad we had to experience such a thing.

Positive experience: Have been using this spa for a while now and it's sad to see the standards here falling - the changing rooms used to be well kept, but now the showers are mouldy, the locker system is ridiculously poor and hard to use and it's generally always pretty grubby. Otherwise the facilities (pool, jacuzzi and steam room /sauna) are good, when they're working.

Positive experience: It is good but very small and water in pool is really warm but showers got only cold water...

Positive experience: Nice little place, went with my wife and she loved it. Gets quite busy at weekend. The Dermalogica facial and wraps does the job. Would go again if I was local, only issue is it's online booking only, so don't try and call you may wait a very long time for an answer.

Negative experience: Poor customer service! 0 ratings. I booked a spa and treatment standard deal for 2 via wowcher more than a week before my birthday which the appointment was confirmed by both the booking admin staff at the spa and myself. 2 days before my birthday the woman at the spa who had booked me in cancelled my booking via email because they had "reached their capacity". When I replied saying why was my booking cancelled if my appointment slot was booked and reserved over a week ago, she rudely replied just saying "It's busy". No apology or valid explanation. This was a poor reason to cancel my booking last minute and both the woman who booked me in at was Angelsz and the manager who I spoke to just seemed unapologetic and did not seem to care that they had ruined my birthday plans. I suspect they probably gave my slot to another customer instead who booked after me. Who knows. I'm still waiting for my refund.

Negative experience: I booked a massage and spa session via Wowcher for my birthday. I was thoroughly dissapointed to learn when I arrived that both the sauna and steam room were out of order. When I asked the staff how long they had been out, I was told for weeks. I was not however told this by the company offering the massage deal who failed to tell me this when I booked my to redeem my massage deal. The lady massaging me asked if I had been told about this beforehand which I told her no. She therefore tried to offer me use of their towel free of charge as compensation. She also said I could have full day access of the spa instead of limited hours but this was already paet of the deal. The massage itself was very delicate when I had told her she could use more pressure. I just felt like someone was rubbing oil over me without the massage part. The spa itself is a bit tired. There was a childs playpen in the middle of the already small women's changing room and the soap dispenser on the shower was empty. The hooks to hang towels around the spa were all rusty as well as some of the doors. The button for the jacuzzi was very flimsy and needs to be fixed in place. I can't comment on the sauna and steam room as they weren't working. Altogether I would not come here again. Not a relaxed experience as it should have been.

Positive experience: If you're really fussy (the type of person who spends most of their holidays taking photos of their hotel room, to post on trip advisor once they get back) you're probably not going to like it. It's not exactly a luxurious/high end spa, and it could do with a bit of a renovation. But if you're more down-to-earth, and just want a decent city centre pool/hot tub/sauna/steam room, you'll really like it. It's convenient, and has everything you need.

Negative experience: messy, 2/3 showers broken, one continuously running. messy changing areas.. the receptionist had her friends there and wasn't concerned about showing me around and didn't even know the length of the pool and didn't seem bothered not to know either. steam room was broken and the sauna was very small and up to 120 . so maybe a bit hot!! gym has one of everything so dont get your hopes up if you want to go on a machine. try to time out of peak times cos everything is very small.

Positive experience: Lovely small health club. Pool is small with steam room & sauna beyond. Not used the gym. Lockers are a bit problematical with strange padlock system. Hence 4 stars.

Negative experience: The swimming pool next to the hotel is awful. The water in Jacuzzi is so chlorinated that the eyes hurt and my swimwear faded completely. It costs me more that I thought. Now I need to buy new swimwear. Please avoid this place.

Negative experience: Went there 07.05.17 with two 1 year & 3 years old kids. The reception guy took from me £5 for every child.even for one year old daughter.and £15 for me and my husband.Well that means that we've paid £25! for using 1,5 hours the pool, with not allowded to go to the sauna and jacuzzi and even with not working swimming costume dryer box. Never come back.

Positive experience: Midweek morning and it was pretty quiet and relaxing for a couple of hours hopping from jacuzzi to steam room to sauna to pool. Nothing special or luxurious but the sister in law did look amazingly rejuvenated after 'the best facial massage [she's] ever had.'

Positive experience: Friendly, helpful staff. Tiny pool can really only accommodate 4 people swimming at a time. Haven't tried the gym.

Positive experience: Its good value if youre looking for a city cenre gym with a pool. Its small but so is its membership base so as long as you dont go at 6pm on mondays and tuesdays its never too crowded in my experience. The equipment is not state of the art but it does the job. Negatives are the state of the changing rooms sometimes...they need more regular cleaning...especially after the mother and baby swim sessions. Lack of wifi is also irritating given the gym is in a basement. Come on...its 2016!!!

Positive experience: Pictures look the way better than place actually is. Everything is very tired. Not pleasant showers. Jacuzzi was not hot and didn't work properly. Pool is tiny, so you can't really swim there much. Sauna not very hot. Three stars only because staff is super super nice. Very lovely ladies are working there. But that s not enough for me to come back to the place again :)

Negative experience: People were swimming in their underwear and staff didn't seem to mind - yuck. Facilities quite small and a little run down considering it's part of a hotel ! All in all ok but probably won't go back.

Positive experience: Quite clean and nice space, the pool has relatively small size, the smell of water purifier is very strong, in total it is a nice place , if you have sensitive skin, don't forget to take botanic Shampoo and body lotion with you. The Sunna is very good :) BTW I did not experience any sun bed over there

Fantastic experience: I treated a family member to a birthday pampering session at Otium Thistle Barbican. We began by swimming in the hotel pool, then used the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Our chosen treatment was the ginger wrap with a facial massage. It was my first spa experience and I was amazed at how relaxing it was to be scrubbed all over then lie still, wrapped up in a ginger potion that gradually warmed up and left my skin smooth and feeling fresh. Then my face was exfoliated and massaged with lotion. The cava was good, although it was a little difficult to find anywhere to drink it! Gosh looked after me very well. We enjoyed the experience and are very likely to repeat it.
