Bromsgrove Hotel & Spa: Opinions

Fantastic experience: Hotel was absolutely lovely, it's hard to imagine when you see the outside as you may thing it's a bit old but as soon as you enter all that is put to rest. Reception was lovely and very accommodating, pool was heated and seemed very clean. Food was amazing as well and couldn't complain at the price for the breakfast buffet

Fantastic experience: Used the spa and pool. Great pool. Went to the restaurant and had lunch. Once again the service was fantastic and the food delicious.

Negative experience: This was a stop off location rather than a destination. The carpark seems to be more bin store than car park. The room absolutely stank of mould, even leaving the window open all night didn't help. To the point that I had to wash all my clothes when I got home as they stank too. Black mould all around the windows, creeping around the walls. I suspect the smell is the rotting carpet. Very noisy, could easily hear conversations in the rooms either side and in the corridor - poor for a purpose built hotel. Generally very tired building. I imagine 1st floor would be the one to aim for to get away from the rising damp.

Positive experience: It does exactly what it says on the tin, nice rooms with the heating on, huge TV £5 car park, very good for the price.

Positive experience: Nice place only problem is that they charge for the Internet at £7 a day should be free

Fantastic experience: Had the pleasure of attending a wedding at this hotel, there was a Starbucks in the reception, the pumpkin spiced latte was amazing! The wedding staff honestly couldn't have done more for us, they made our friends Antheya and Steve feel a million dollars. I will definitely use this hotel and spa again.

Positive experience: The hotel staff need training and can be slow and robotic at times. The SPA is okay. Needs some tlc

Negative experience: Parking 5 Pounds. WIFI 7 pounds/device. Otherwise no Internet in Room. The hidden costs are very expensive and annoying. Because of this, never again

Negative experience: We come here for swimming lessons so only have experience of the spa area. But in the last 18 months the facilities have deteriorated significantly. The changing rooms are dirty and poorly maintained with showers in a poor state and regular ceiling leaks and now the air heating in the pool are has broken so the kids are freezing when they finish their lessons. We've been told it might not be fixed until December!

Negative experience: The first room I was given smelled heavily of damp/mould, the heating was cranked up, potentially to counteract that and the bathroom had not been well cleaned. I stayed there for two nights and on the second night I went into the bathroom to find lots of tiny flies in and round the sink. I asked to change rooms, which they did quickly and politely. The second room was cleaner and did not smell damp, but the furniture was shabby and falling apart. It was also pretty cold. I'm surprised they didn't offer me a discount for the awful experience. I will not be staying here again.

Fantastic experience: Nice hotel with onsite parking near M5 below Birmingham. Note parking £5 per day and pool entry £4 per entry (or £10 per night stay). Note many facilities only accept card payments. Entrance lobby and room looked modern, clean and well kept, although building is old and some areas, although clean and well maintained show a 1970's style, some good and some less so. Breakfast was a good hot and cold buffet. Pool is a good size but can be busy, although some lanes for length swimming are cordoned off. Note reception desk to use pool is hidden behind exercise machines in the gym area, just turn left through doors from the hotel and it's only a few metres. Chosen for location, but pleasantly surprised by facilities.

Fantastic experience: My son and I had an overnight stay at the hotel and upon arriving we realised that a room with only a double bed had been booked. The lady behind the desk was happy to amend my booking to a room with a double and single bed at no extra charge. As far as facilities were concerned, we didn't get to see much as we were only there to sleep but from what I did see it was well equipped and the main foyer was inviting and cosy. The breakfast (fry up) was amazing and we were allowed to go back for second helpings at no extra cost. All in all, a pleasant stay and will definitely be staying again. It was much better than the local competitors (holiday inn) (travel lodge)!!!

Positive experience: A comfortable holiday, good pool and spa. The restaurant was good for evening meal, not particularly cheap. Breakfast was a little average and expensive. I have a gluten allergy, breakfast staff wasn't really aware of the allergy. Room was comfortable, good bed. Plenty of space. Hotel was quiet.

Fantastic experience: Stayed at this hotel for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the staff were great and very helpful. Part of the hotel was having a refurbishment but this did not interfere with our stay. Used the spar facilities good swimming pool and sauna. Overall a very good experience and can't fault any of the staff.

Positive experience: I was gobsmacked. A Brittania Hotels location which was pretty good! I've been to several of their "flagship" sites - the once very Grand Hotel in Scarborough, The Norbreck Castle in Blackpool and various others, plus mini weekends at Pontins. All very run down, lacking comfort and any quality (cheap being the driving factor). But The Bromsgrove was pretty good, professional and the rooms and facilities a decent standard. True, the level of customer service from bar staff wasn't what I would expect (slack, as we would say up north) but overall the facilities were good, food a decent standard and well presented and staff well turned out and mostly attentive. True it was only a one night stay, but a thumbs up from me

Positive experience: Stayed here for work, the reception of the hotel was beautiful and grand, my room looked really lovely when I entered. The bed was okay, a bit noisy when moving due to the springs pinging. The shower was terrible, the water pressure was really low, and it took 10 minutes for the water to heat up by which time I just had a cold shower. You have to pay for the WiFi as the free WiFi cut out constantly. The premium WiFi was £7 which is ridiculous, especially when it kept dropping out every 40 minutes

Positive experience: Really nice and friendly staff. Mane and Mutaher had a very nice approach and made us feel home. They had a nice chat and are really polite i would definately recommend to stay here.

Positive experience: Staff members are welcoming. Good atmosphere. Parking charges are totally ripped off. It's not a choice but more likely imposed on customers. Just 100 yards down the road, even at Travelodge Parking is free...

Nick Tubby 2 years ago

Positive experience: The lobby is great, but it goes downhill from there. Tired is a polite way of describing the rooms. Everything costs extra (even the parking). It was hard to work out if the mould in the bathroom was more prolific than the damp. However, the service comes with a smile and there’s no sense of being overcharged. The beds were clean and comfortable.

Positive experience: What was probably a posh hotel in its day but a little tired now. Staff all friendly and polite. Bed and shower were fine, and room was clean - which is what counts for me. Breakfast wasn't worth the money.

Fantastic experience: Though the steamer was not working, the spa treatment was amazing and to our taste!! I enjoyed my weekend. Family stopped there overnight for a cousin's surprise party. Awesome staff who all presented with such unique professionalism, calm, kind, and attentive to our needs as we parted till late into the night!! Thank you so much to the staff team who supported us with our meals and drinks. You were all great professionals in your field!! Thank you!!! Loved this place, will go again!!

Fantastic experience: We liked everything. Group booking for 1 night stay for our motorcycle club annual dinner. Staff are very attentive, evening meal was one of the best we've had as a group booking. Events manager Karen was so helpful. Rooms are comfortable and really spacious. Price was reasonable and a good location. Couldn't ask for more. Thank you

Courtney Parks 2 years ago

Positive experience: We utilized the hotel for our work awards ceremony, and the Conference & Events Sales Executive, provided excellent service in the lead up. She was quick to answer our many queries and aided us in the booking process. There was the perfect fit for our 70+ guests, as it could accommodate 10 cabaret-style tables. On the day of the event, Snehal Lakhani was incredibly helpful, offering extra seating, tableware, and table settings as needed. We had ordered a hot food buffet for the occasion, which was incredibly delicious (especially the black forest cheesecake and profiteroles). Snehal made sure there was enough food for everyone, and while we had leftovers, it was a shame they were not eaten. We would highly recommend this hotel for any event and hope to book again in the future.

Negative experience: This is not a 4 star hotel. Urine and blood stained beds in all 3 rooms that I was given. No sanitary bin. Sticky carpet. The Wi-Fi is £7 per device!! Heavy security presence due to it being an immigrant hotel. I saw no bad behaviour however the cleaning staff clearly don’t care. The staff were lovely but clearly the manager has lost control of the staff. I would not stay here ever. If the rooms are that bad it made me question how clean the kitchen is so did not eat there. Housekeepers please do your job. The lack of cleaning is embarrassing for the staff who actually care. Shocked that this is listed as a 4 star and that EHO have actually not closed the place for a deep clean and maintenance. I am going to a travelodge for the remainder of my stay.

Wendy Butler 2 years ago

Negative experience: From the outside looks lovely, inside its dirty and half of it is a migrants hotel. We did not know this at time of booking and was not told. Food was basic and my husbands meal was cold. Make sure your door is locked, twice during the night someone tried to open our door, was so glad to leave in the morning. My recommendation, don't go

Fantastic experience: We went there to get away from the daily routine for a night, it is a lovely place. Swimming pool with 32°C water, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna all working perfect. Restaurant service was ok for breakfast and way better for dinner. Staff members polide and professional. Great place to relax, we are definitely going back.

Positive experience: Lovely rooms - big, clean and well equipped. One big down is that you have to pay for wi-fi in the rooms. Not great if you have work to do

Chunky Johnson 2 years ago

Negative experience: YES ITS A “IMMIGRANT HOTEL”!!!! So check before you book. The good news is they are kept out of site once the all the outside contractors return from work. Plus heavy security staff. They were very on the ball when an immigrant was squatting outside reception .. smoking. Moved by the 4 on duty, security staff. Enjoy!!!!

Negative experience: Some things are too good to be true! This is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in, in the UK. The hotel lobby, lounge and breakfast were all fine, but our room was awful. The door was broken (as though it had been kicked in), it had a horrible smell, sticky and dirty carpets and it wasn’t very clean. Our friends had a much better room (still quite average), so maybe some of the other reviews didn’t get the short straw and end up with the one we were in. Personally, I wouldn’t stay here again.

Tom Nichols 2 years ago

Negative experience: Very run down and dirty after being used to house migrants. Fine issues for parking at the hotel, never had to pay for parking at a hotel before which is outside of London.

Shilly Shilly 2 years ago

Positive experience: The staff we encountered made the trip for us, friendly and helpful. The room as had was large, it had very good water pressure & good lighting. This hotel seems to of lost it’s splendour I imagine it once had. It’s the attention to detail that needs a boost: very large stain on carpet in bathroom area, out of date toiletries ( however out of date items is an interesting one), tv didn’t work - however the receptionist & maintenance guys dealt with it for us, no information in room about anything, poor interior signage, the very open lounge area was extremely cold- to the point a high percentage of guests kept their coats on at breakfast. I never like paying to park, that’s just me though. I also am not used to having to pay for wi fi on our bedroom, seemed very old school, use by date on some breakfast items. Would we stay there again? Yes we would, it was good value for money and did the job and the staff are doing a great a job as they can in this hotel.

Negative experience: Stayed for 3 nights. Paid for parking. Have been harassed by parking eye for 6 months now have bailiffs coming round. Have tried to contact bromsgrove hotel and spa several times. Every time the desk tells me the problem is sorted.

Sadie Cridland 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I was really amazed with what I found at the price. It looked lovely online but why was it so cheap?? Well I do not know! Staff were so lovely. Food was really wholesome, fresh and good value. Burger wasn't top class but it was really pleasant, hot and tasty. If you need a comfort meal go for the spaghetti! Room was good. Way more spacious than a Premiere Inn at 3x the price! I really can't fault it. Staff made it really lovely. Thanks so much for a lovely stay.

Geoffrey Banks-Smith 2 years ago

Negative experience: This hotel is so cheap. They charge you for literally everything. I arrived 5 minutes before the check in time. £10 charge. You have to pay for parking even though it was completely empty. You don’t even get Wi-Fi. You have to pay £7 per device. This is made worse as all the rooms other than downstairs are signal dead spots so you can’t even tether off your phone. My room had mould across the windows and the bath was dirty. AVOID THIS HOTEL!

Fantastic experience: Great hotel with friendly staff, I've checked in at 2am and it was no problem, large car park with security, the rooms are a good size and comfortable and clean. Nice relaxing bar and reasonably priced. I've stayed multiple times now for 1-4 nights at a time and have no complaints.

Positive experience: Great value for money, nice bed and breakfast. Staff are super friendly too! The room could have been a bit cleaner though but had great facilities

Positive experience: Stayed on business trip. Rooms are large and clean with a bath. Wifi does not reach the bedrooms. You need to take £4 if you want to swim as they wont add this to your room charge. Parking Eye is also in place so register your vehicle. Food is reasonable with a buffet style breakfast on offer. This hotel is used by coach parties for senior citizens which is nice but also good to know if you get stuck in buffet. Overall a nice hotel, has security on the door so its a 3 star from me as unable to swim as I didnt have £4 cash.

Negative experience: We were staying for our daughters wedding that was booked a year ago.. my daughter had booked the bridal suite with us in the room next door with an adjoining door for obvious reasons.. upon arrival we were told they had given the adjoining room to someone else .. my daughter was obviously upset as we were across the corridor a few doors up.. our room was dirty.. the toilet had not been cleaned I had to clean the seat before it could be used.. toe nails/ finger nails all over the carpet.. just dirty!… the electric sockets were unusable as they were the old type with a round pin so the hair and makeup ladies had nowhere to plug any equipment in! I had to ask for an extension lead and was given one to use that was no good .. the breakfast was cold on both days and all of immigrants that were there took all of the cereals toast milk juice etc..there was not much left! There was security on the door as we had heard they were not behaving very well! Please avoid.. I did tell the manager I was putting a review up to tell people about the poor standards!

richard jackson 3 years ago

Positive experience: Lovely big room but needs air conditioning. No daily chamber maid service. The food was excellent quality, plenty of choice and as much as you can eat.

Wendy 3 years ago

Negative experience: Not as cheap as some reviews suggest. Paid over £200 plus parking charges plus WiFi charge plus pool charge...Had I realised this was a Brittania hotel I would most definitely have avoided! The hotel is dated, feels grubby, phone in room dead which was needed when room next door started playing very loud music in the early hours. Thankfully dealt with by security but lone females don't want to be roaming corridors looking for someone to help. Breakfast such a depressing experience decided wouldn't put ourselves through it on second morning. Staff in dining room clearing plates and if you can call it cleaning, spritzing tables, in blue gloves and then laying table handling the eating end of cutlery with same gloves. Not hygienic at all. Overall a depressing and disappointing stay. Appears to be many happy with their stays and good on em, speak as you find, but from my experience, please don't be fooled. Stay at a premier inn if you want budget accommodation.

kevin sedgwick 3 years ago

Negative experience: Let me start by saying the wedding breakfast and all of the organisation, food and service was exceptional and the staff involved were great.... But The place looks very tired, our room was 126 and the bed was awful, low to the floor, mattress poor quality, shabby room, the bed creaked awfully every time either of us moved and the one wall was painted in black gloss straight over the awful wallpaper. Then the room design could do with a change as the bathroom light does the sink area and the separate toilet and bath. Trouble is there is no door and so if either person needs the bathroom, bright white lights wake the other person up. Add in only 1 soft pillow per person and WiFi charges at 7 quid for each device and a bar price list which would be in place in London. I leave you to make up your own mind

Flora Schmidt 3 years ago

Negative experience: maybe once a fine hotel, but now decrepit and dirty staff is very friendly and obviously suffering under poor management protocols WiFi in the rooms for instance is 7£ per 24 hours per device - a practice maybe understandable in 2002, not 2022 breakfast is a 2 star experience at best and all our sheets had mild stains and surfaces were sticky the pool (when open) is nice and the garden is very cute, though it is obvious that its glory lies a few decade in the past location is great i would recommend choosing alternate lodging

Holly Pretious 3 years ago

Negative experience: Really disappointing stay. The room was very dirty, with all sorts of bits including broken glass, screws and a vape pen from a previous guest left on the floor. The bed was very uncomfortable and the whole hotel is really dated. We complained but the receptionist had only been there for a week so asked us to come back the next day to speak to her supervisor. We ended up leaving a day early and were only offered a 10% discount on our stay.

Sarah Finch 3 years ago

Negative experience: Food served not the best. Service only certain staff know what they are doing. Rooms are dirty and have mould. But the cleaning staff are very pleasant and very helpful

Radostina Shopova 3 years ago

Negative experience: The hotel is old and desperately needs complete renovation. To use wifi you need to pay extra, which is just petty in 2022. The room was clean, but all furniture was very old and used up. Breakfast costs extra £12, so we didn't take it, but friends of ours had very poor opinion about it. The staff was friendly.

Jatinder Singh 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Had a lovely meal with the family, great stay for kids and adults. Staff are always attentive and friendly. This place never disappoints. Have been a few times and will definitely be coming back next time.!!

Julie Roughley 3 years ago

Positive experience: Big room but very small bathroom not helped by how door opens and an empty corner. Beds very poor and need look after. Very long corridor to walk down with luggage but they do have trollies. £5 additional for hotel parking. Used restaurant for evening meal and breakfast

Daniel Ward 3 years ago

Negative experience: Quite possibly one of the worst hotels I've stayed at for this money. The room was dated, dirty and mouldy. Walls are paper thin and it appeared alot of the guests were not considerate about this. There was music blaring until around 2am but to be fair on reception they resolved the issue as soon as I called. You have to pay for parking which I think is unreasonable for a hotel you're staying at. The room I was in definitely had security issues due to adjoining room doors not locking properly, if my neighbours wanted to they could have walked straight into my room. My advice is to give this hotel a miss.

E2008GTGUY 3 years ago

Negative experience: Just come home from a 1 night brief stopover. When driving in you get the impression immediately that this place needs a refresh. Potholes in the roads surrounding the premises, and poorly allotted walking space leading to said parking, for which you have to pay £5 per day. The entrance lobby is overkill for this 2 star imho. The staff are your run of the mill 'we're here because we're paid to be here' kind. I had the Aberdeen Angus beef burger with skin on chips for dinner, was ok. The chips were better than burger. The room was spacious enough for what I needed, the bathroom is basic at best, with bathtub shower, very old fashioned. The bar is overpriced with a adequate level of booze on tap or in bottles. Next morning I paid £10 for a breakfast voucher, all you dare to eat buffet, which is not worth it. The scrambled eggs looked like last weeks, the coffee is awful, 3 selections of cereals, a fruit salad which looked good,. I only had 1 slice of toast and 2 fried eggs, definitely the better option of the eggy kind. I wasn't in the mood for trying to eat £10 worth of fried eggs and toast.

The Cat 3 years ago

Positive experience: The staff are great and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Marie is very good as was the girl on the bar, Emma, who is really good too. The guys who work on the bar are good too. There is a happy hour from 5pm to 7pm. They get your room ready even at short notice. Checking in is easy, there is a seating area in the lobby tto. Swimming pool and spa facilities are available, it is advisable to check what is included. You have to pay £5 for car parking. It can be a bir noisy with a lit of children running around. There is a quiet time from 10pm to 7am. The bar area has a pool table as well as a selection of mainly lagers and spirits. San Miguel, Angelo Perreti, John Smiths, somersby Cider, Carlsberg. BEWARE Guinness is in a can at £4.75 not on tap as it suggests. Crisps by kettle and nuts are available. You can order food from the restaurant to be ordered to your table. AVOID THE CHEESE SANDWICH. ITS SHOCKING. This really let's the review lose a star rating.

Nelson Berg 3 years ago

Positive experience: Bit like the MacDonalds, except if you want a napkin, that will be a pound extra please ,hotel policy, etc. Mixed altruistic responses from staff, id say about 50/50. Big rooms. Wont be returning if I can find an alternative.

Lee Anderson 3 years ago

Negative experience: Worst hotel I've stayed in in a long time! Fire alarm went off 6 times through the night. Paper thin walls so you can hear everything from other rooms. The food was awful... very little choice and what is served isn't great. The breakfast was dried out and very little selection, they don't even have a coffee machine, just thermos dispensers and instant coffee sachets. The WiFi is so bad you can't even connect a video call, it's took over an hour to download a 1gb file. Even though the hotel isn't busy you could find yourself stood around for 10 minutes at the bar with no staff in sight. I have never been so annoyed with a hotel/service that I felt so compelled to dissuade people from staying there as I have with this hotel. There is a travel lodge with Miller and Carter restaurant across the road... save yourself a lot of stress/sleepless nights and stay there!

Darren May 3 years ago

Positive experience: Nice hotel....Excellent Value for money. You get what you pay for. Nice Budget style hotel. Staff were Excellent. Easy to get to. You do have to pay £5 to park overnight, however we were more than happy to pay that considering we paid under £100 for a 1 night stay, with bed and Breakfast, 3 course evening meal and day passes for 2 for the Pool and Spa. Overall Great Stay!

dom coleman 3 years ago

Positive experience: Nice low cost hotel on the outskirts of Birmingham, the decor is a little dated and the room had a bit of a musty smell, when we asked for a simple extra pillow we were told there weren't any, which seemed more of a quick 'can't be bothered' than actual fact but at £39 a room I guess you expect a quick basic overnight.

Buddy High 3 years ago

Negative experience: This is exactly why companies like premier inn do so well! It’s not that difficult to provide a basic hotel service, yet this place is..... a dive. Lobby area sells a completely different experience (clean with nice decor) then comes the room! It’s like staying In a ymca! Breakfast is also a no go in my opinion There’s a travel lodge 2 mins away, try there instead.

Clairebear 202 3 years ago

Positive experience: Pros: Nice hotel excellent facilities and lovely spa area , big comfy beds. Cons: Watch out for all the add ons, guests have to pay to use the spa facilities each time they go , wifi is free for 20 mins then it's charged per day, you have to park for parking. Bathroom very small.

Rhianne Lilley 3 years ago

Negative experience: I would not recommend this place. The main reason for the visit was to relax and unwind and use the spa facilities. On check in we asked what time the spa closed. We were told 10:30. I thought wow ok that's later then I thought for a Friday, brilliant! After changing we went to the pool to find it closed at 8:30. (there was black tape across previous opening times) the lady at the bar even directed us to the closed facilities and the girl on front of house said she thought we said bar. I get that was a missed communication and we decided we go in the morning. We were given tea and coffee and some brown paper cups, in the morning when making a coffee I placed it down to take a shower and when I picks sit back up the bottom had fallen out of the cup scalding my leg. I'm all for biodegradable cups and saving the planet one plastic cup at a time, but these were just horrendous. I spoke to a very rude girl Sophia on the desk who had zero concern, took no accident report form and refused to let me have the brown cups to show her. Let's be honest if it had of happened to child it could have been much much worse. She snatched the cups off me and gave me black ones. We didn't even use the pool in the end. Very dissatisfied.

Emma Wright 3 years ago

Positive experience: Stayed here for a break away after a night out. Check in was seemless.car parking is chargeable at £5.00 per night. Unfortunately there was a disturbance in the room opposite about 5/6am which led to the police being called and further more disturbance from police knocking for statements etc. Luckily I booked the room for 2 nights as late check out is charged 10 £ and hour and it was only 38 £ for an extra night. We didn't use the facilities - so can't comment on them. Room was adequate enough but the pillows were far too hard which made for a bit of an uncomfortable sleep in the end.

Fantastic experience: I stayed here while I was away having surgery. This was a very stressful time for me and the hotel staff were very accommodating. My surgery got delayed and I was left with nowhere to stay and the hotel staff took extra care to make sure I was comfortable and relaxed. Would definitely go back

Arlin Nunez 3 years ago

Negative experience: Room was ok in size but bed was too hard, not very clean. The worse was really the food at the restaurant and the staff at the restaurant seemed to come from a slow motion scene. Other people that seemed to be frequent visitors at some point were upset and asking what had happened to the place. It was weird. I would not recommend unfortunately.

Negative experience: I really feel 50/50 about the stay here.. We payed £98.00 for stay, dinner&breakfast, their was no free WiFi you had to pay per device, no room service, no lifts for disabled guests! They charge for parking & gym/swimming pool it’s £4.00 per time or £10.00 for the duration of your stay. Their was no information on how things worked like if you payed for dinner in your booking how much do you get the spend ect.. you were just told when you asked for a menu. Me and my boyfriend came to stay overnight we were really excited then we got to the hotel and spa to find out the pool was closed due to heating problems so their was only the jacuzzi and the steam room available which due to heating issues the jacuzzi wasn’t very warm and their was no steam and hardly any heat in the steam room so we didn’t sit in their. We was also disappointed that nothing was put on the website about the pool and we found out from another person that the pool has been closed for around 3 weeks now, also for anyone who thought you could get any spa treatment/massages ect they do not do this here haven’t for about 5-6 years apparently. It is also currently one of the hotels used to temporarily house asylum seekers /refugees, this was not an issue for us, but I can imagine some people having a problem. Breakfast wasn’t very nice at all the hash browns were very greasy and oily and the bacon was cold, however our dinner was beautiful couldn’t say a word wrong about it and our room was comfy once the manager had upgraded our room, the staff are lovely, friendly and very helpful and overall the hotel is very modern, clean and tidy :)

Positive experience: Lovely hotel, well positioned. Only downside is bathroom is dated and hair dryer was under powered. At breakfast sausages and fried eggs were dry. Food had been cooked in bulk and left out under heaters. However the scrambled egg and beans were ok. Bar was nice to relax in, also had a few games of pool.

Positive experience: Having booked purely because the hotel has a swimming pool, I was extremely disappointed to find out on arrival that it was closed, in fact had been for weeks. There was no notification of this online, which the staff were aware of and understanding towards my disappointment and authorised a refund for nights not stayed, should I have wished not to continue my stay. The steam room is very poor, good jacuzzi, well equipped compact gym. Sauna closed (advertised on website). When I arrived in my room I was really happy, spacious and clean. Comfortable bed. The breakfast is typically English, buffet style. Cereal or instant porridge too for those who are not a fan of a full English. The restaurant is modern and quirky in regards to decor. Staff are all really polite with good communication skills when dealing with customers. I ate from the bar menu one evening and was pleasantly surprised, good value and nice meal. Overall the hotel is fantastic value, if all facilities were accessible and fully functioning, this hotel would be great. I do not regret my decision to perpetuate my trip! If for any reason I were to return to area, I would stay at this hotel.... And, without a doubt, if I learn of the health suite being back up and running, I would definitely return. Enjoyed my stay, despite it not being as wished.

Positive experience: A lot better than the last time I was there when it was a Hilton (I think). I only dropped in for a coffee to meet a passing family member, but it's apparent a lot of money has been spent on the place, certainly front of house. Service was 'ok', but nothing to write home about. Car park was full of fast food wrappers and other rubbish. Be advised, if you are booking, that the place is currently holding Afghan immigrants awaiting housing... So not the nicest of environments to be completely honest.

Negative experience: Being a single woman I was surprised to find I had not only been allocated a downstairs room but that it also had a window that couldn't be closed. I had a reasonable night's sleep but admit it took a while to move past the anxiety the sleeping arrangement caused! On the plus side, the room was spacious, comfortable and had everything you could need. The receptionist was friendly and helpful and the bar food was delicious. The breakfast, however, wasn't as good with the scrambled eggs so congealed that both I and a friend who was also staying thinking it was mashed potato! I was also concerned that the gentleman manning the breakfast sign-in referred to the serving hatches as "the one on the right is for the Afghans and the one on the left is for 'normal' people". I commend the hotel for the work they are doing supporting the Afghans but the staff perhaps need to be more mindful of the language they use! Not the worst place I've stayed but not the best either.

Negative experience: Cleaners are thieves!!! I left my necklace, told them exactly where it was and what room... but nothing. Tramps! cleaners stealing guests jewellery!!! I actually stay here most the time but never normally forget anything. Cleaner's steal your things here...Do not stay here!!!...

Negative experience: Far too expensive for what they provide. £159.00 for a double room for one night that was adequate at best. Can't book in until after 16:00 hours. Was astonished to have to pay extra for parking. £5.00 per car. If you want to use the spa facilities (currently only the gym and pool operating) you have to pay extra for this too. £4.00 per session or £10.00 for the duration of your stay. The food and drink at the bar and restaurant are horrendously expensive. The whole of the outside area needs some attention, it looked shabby to say the least. It is also currently one of the hotels used to temporarily house asylum seekers /refugees, this was not an issue for us, but I can imagine some people having a problem. A very positive point is that the staff were all brilliant, very polite and helpful. The gentleman at breakfast managing to source marmalade out of nowhere cheered my other half up no end.

Negative experience: Staff are very kind and helpful however that’s where the nice things end. The rooms aren’t cleaned properly, dust covered lamps and under the bed. Very dated rooms. To be a hotel guest and have to pay for parking and use of swimming pool is appalling, after spending nearly £300! No sockets next to the bed! Carpet coming up! Really disappointed that I couldn’t book something else! Bathroom is something from 20 years ago, can’t quiet close the door and the jets in the bath are very amusing, 2/8 only working! Really let down for the price would avoid at all costs!!!!

Positive experience: I don't like leaving bad reviews and this is no exception, although I must admit some parts of my stay here was just not right. For a start we arrived and found we had to pay for parking. It was only a fiver for the night but you don't expect to have to pay for parking at a hotel you're staying at, however small the cost. Another gripe I had was that WiFi wasn't free in rooms. You could access it in the public areas but you had to pay in the rooms which is just cheeky. The Double bed only had two rather hard pillows and the mattress was pretty thin. Wasn't the most comfortable sleep I must admit. There is a small pool and sauna but the dry sauna was closed. The jacuzzi was on so bonus. Did I mention you had to pay for the pool? Single use only and 4 quid. Breakfast was help yourself, and left under those hot lamps so had dried out and was pretty rubbish tbh. We didn't bother eating dinner here but went to a local pub, the Oak where it was really good food. I must say all the staff were very friendly and lovely people so they made up for the money grabbing philosophy of Britannia hotels. I won't be staying here again.

Negative experience: Definitely not a 4 star hotel. Maybe when it was first built but I don't think it's been changed since then. Very dated. Showing visible signs of age. Had stains on my bed sheets. Bathroom was full of mould. This was just my room. Maybe a one off. But I doubt it. Pool facilties also very dated. Again definitely not 4 star.

Negative experience: Have to pay for parking in the hotel car park. Ridiculous. Have to pay for WiFi if you want anything better than string and cup speeds. Ridiculous. Room and bathroom was dated and dirty, stank of cigarette smoke. Water pressure from shower pathetic. Then they even had the cheek to ask me not to smoke in the beer garden, which would have been quite a pleasant area if I wasn't denied my right to smoke. Hotels like this are embarrassing. What must a foreign person think when they visit UK and witness hotel standards like this.

Negative experience: SERIOUS SECURITY ISSUES. I have stayed here many times before and was always willing to overlook the general flaws in service and quality, but my current stay has raised a serious issue. When I checked in, I was told that the light on the room door was not working, but the fire would unlock non the less. When I tried, the door did certainly open. Unfortunately, it also opened without any key at all!! When I went back to report this to Reception (and was greeted by a non surprised receptionist!), I was told there was nothing they could do as they were fully booked. I waited half an hour while she tried to locate the manager as requested and was then told there was another room mate available for me. I made it quite clear that if they were expecting to check another person into my original room, I would make it clear to that person that the hotel has KNOWINGLY checked someone in to a room that is completely non-secure!! They agreed with me and gave me a key to a new room. It soon termed out that only half an hour later, they checked an older couple into my original room!! THEY HAD KNOWINGLY CHECKED AN ELDERLY COUPLE INTO A ROOM THEY KNEW HAD NO WORKING LOCK!!!! Disgusting and completely wrong. Never coming back here again. Especially after tonight when the bar has completely run out of wine AND beer!!!! Place is a complete joke!!!

Negative experience: This is a cheap and nasty Ryanair style hotel. Although the initial price of a room is cheap, there are loads of additional costs. £10 for 24 hours parking. £10 extra for breakfast. £4 for nice coffee instead of the nasty self-serve flask that's served with breakfast. £4 for the pool. I could go on... On top of this, I used the car park to check in and unload (less than 30 mins) before parking on a side street. I got a £100 fine. The place felt rundown. The jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were all closed. Even if they were open, calling this place a 'spa' is miss-selling it. Avoid - you can get better value and somewhere much nicer in the local area, especially once you add on all the additional costs.

Negative experience: Terrible. We ordered a spaghetti bolognese and it was chopped up beefburger on top of spaghetti. No attempt to even hide this. The other food we ordered was blatantly microwave meals. Other people were complaining about cold pizzas. The table next to us even got told they had no forks (so how were they supposed to eat their food- with spoons??) Waiting staff seemed pretty confused about things and not right for the job. I complained about the food in the morning, and was waiting until we got a reply before leaving a bad review, to give them a chance to rectify it, but unsurprisingly we didn’t get a reply. We got the feeling the girl on reception didn’t even bother passing it on as complaints were coming in that regularly. Gave two stars and not one because the room was relatively comfortable and clean. Pool was clean but not a spa, more like a leisure centre. Don’t bother wasting your money as it’s not a cheap place to stay.

Positive experience: Cheap rooms usually available and very near M5 junction. Disabled parking spaces, accessible front entrance BUT no lift? That is very poor and drops one star. It might be because of covid, but very few facilities open. The rooms are big BUT all the decor is a bit tired and worn looking. Not especially clean - I don't expect a hairy bath plughole at any price. The walls seem to have no soundproofing quality at all, and the beds in at least three rooms are very very noisy. By that, I mean sitting on the bed makes the springs rattle. Rolling over in your sleep will certainly wake a light sleeper! There goes the second star. I think I would suggest looking elsewhere for a premier experience.

Negative experience: Top line (in case you don't want to read all the details): Overpriced, outdated, diabolical customer service - stay at this hotel as a last resort, Travelodge/Premier Inn is much better! I’m aware it was publicised on the website, but having to pay £5 for parking for a night is not on, especially seeing as I already paid about £170 for a night’s stay. The room itself was very comfortable and clean, the beds were lovely although it could all do with a freshen up. The customer service is the main reason as to why I feel I have been completely ripped off. At the pool, I had to ask twice for towels - not ideal but I could see past it. However, it turned out to be the trigger point when combining that with the experience in the bar. There was no steak, no rosé and ran out of Disaronno. I was visibly displeased, and when I asked for a San Miguel, the barman thought for a minute, then proceeded to pour me a different beer while I was on the phone (getting my wife to change her order) thinking I wouldn’t notice. I did notice, and when I questioned him, he looked very nervous and explained he’d poured me a different drink and that they were out of San Miguel. He lied. After being lied to and attempted to be shafted for another drink I didn’t want, I thought dinner might be better. The waiter was lovely and great with the kids. However, my daughter asked him for cheese - he made a great joke with her about going to get it for her. He then came and told us twice that he was sorting it… then never came! I joked with him in passing that I guessed cheese wasn’t coming and his response was ‘oh sorry, I’ll get it now!’ By which point we had all finished dinner. It also took him a few times of being asked for salt and pepper for it to be brought over, by which point we were nearly done with dinner. Cutlery was dirty, glasses were left out on the bar - it all felt very messy and dirty. At breakfast I had to go through about 20 bowls before I got to a clean one. My food at dinner was cold, luke warm at best, breakfast was cold - the beans appeared to have just come out of the tin, the coffee was awful the waiting staff were unprofessional - preparing breakfast in their hoodies. We came down 5 minutes early to be first in as we needed to go. The waiter (in his hoodie) shouted across reception that breakfast wasn't open yet. Again, with the price I paid in mind, I expect a certain level of professionalism. I wasn’t asked how my stay was when I checked out, maybe it’s for the best. For £170 for the night, I feel completely ripped off with the service I’ve received.

Positive experience: Room was a very good size and bed was comfortable. However the walls were paper thin! Could hear people in the next room talking plus a dog barking in nearby room. Meant we did not sleep well.

Negative experience: Staff were lovely and rooms were very clean. But not enough staff. We came to check in on a Saturday night and there was 1 member of staff on the main reception trying to check in at least 10 people. Then there was only 1 member of staff on the bar doing both drinks and food as the restaurant was closed. We paid extra for the breakfast and it was shocking! The beans were cold the bacon was fatty. The sausages were ok but nothing special. Cant fault the staff though as they were very helpful.

Negative experience: It was just about passable, the room was clean-ish. Bathroom hadn’t been cleaned for a while. Couch in the room was dirty and badly marked. Food was just about ok, but not quite good enough. Staff were nice. Waited 20 minutes for cutlery, literally the worst cup of coffee I’ve ever had with my breakfast. Glass was dirty when I ordered a coke at the bar. Wouldn’t go back ever!!!!

Negative experience: Hotel looks really nice from outside and in lobby etc. Room however was a little grubby especially the bathroom. Shower was broken so went to use the bath - no hot water . No tea coffee / kettle . TV didn't work properly. It was quite cheap but I do expect a certain standard . Also didn't expect to pay for parking. Especially on the outskirts of Bromsgrove. It's a shame as when it was Hilton it was a good hotel

Negative experience: Tired looking budget hotel posing as 4*. Mirrors were filthy and the view from the window looked directly onto reception and a bank of air filters. Not the luxurious spa hotel that I was expecting at all. Disposable cups and tooth mugs, I prefer at least an actual glass with my Brandy and lemonade! There was no bath mat and only one hand towel which we had to use as a bath mat and the doors were hanging off the wardrobe in the bathroom annex. It was advertised as a 4* hotel and having been to a spa hotel before, I was personally most unimpressed as it was a birthday treat for my partner. Overall a disappointing stay but the staff were helpful and friendly.

Negative experience: Dire! 4 tables outside reception with no ashtrays. At least 100 butts on the floor. So much smoke you will have had 5 cigarettes before you enter. Reception good staff. Drinks £12 for g & t and a pint Room, carpet has been down for 20 years and hardly cleaned. Room smelt of tobacco. Owens of butts under the window. Whole experience was dreadful. Couldn't wait to escape into the fresh air.

Negative experience: The hotel is ok and reasonably priced, staff really friendly, bar staff very helpful, the problem with the hotel is many fold, it's dirty in places and in need of some love inside and out, also the door noise at night is beyond anything I've ever encountered. The breakfast is ok and plenty of it, our room had a covid safe sticker on the door as a seal yet we went in and found the last persons rubbish, bed was also broken which made for a noisy night's sleep. I would not recommend this hotel.

J. Gareth Moreton 4 years ago

Positive experience: I think they're trying too hard to look posh, but then miss things like stained and cracked bathroom tiles and a lack of bedside power sockets that makes using a laptop computer in bed a bit difficult. Having to pay extra to use the pool and Wifi is a bit much, although the former is quite nice as it resembles a bathhouse somewhat. Food was pretty nice too.
