Positive experience: Friendly staff ok gym not bad on price

Positive experience: Good gym with decent equipment however could do with more modern/different pieces as majority is quite basic stuff. Many times things will be broken/out of use and will be like that for quite a while. Most staff are friendly. The worst part is probably the timings, closing at 6 or 8pm is quite early. Could have a better website/membership page as half the time the website doesn’t work and there’s not much you can do on it other than purchase - should be more options to edit the membership etc

Negative experience: Terrible equipment that takes weeks to repair. All outdated stuff. Opening hours are not great. Beware of their terms and conditions too especially when it comes to cancellations and requesting refunds. They took my whole upfront annual membership fee away and would not refund at all. Stay well away from here! Far more better gyms available nearby.

Negative experience: Nat bad gym! Needs more equipment and it’s outdated! Sauna small , jacuzzi very small . Steam room good. Swimming pool ok. Staff are very friendly. And the opening times horrible. For a modern gym should be every day 6 till 10 minimum!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely astounding that so many poor reviews are made. I love it here. Staff are great, just getting on with things. Had a new boy sign us up he was lovely and a girl with red hair, i didn't have a pound for the locker so she gave me her personal pound token, i returned it the next day i forgot i had it on the day haha. However I love it, it's my go to place to have some me time, swim, shower and relax. Theres even upstairs rooms if not used for those who like a little privacy... So this gym does think for others carefully, everywhere is clean so many people complaining on here about broken lockers... Theres literally several i mean so so many available regardless of the ones broken.... Things like that happen ... My only critic is the shower doors need locks and has a tiny gap i have to cover ❤️ but thats it the price..... Top notch❤️❤️❤️ victoria ❤️❤️

Positive experience: I've just moved to this gym from JD Sports up the road and I am so happy. The gym is not busy, there is always equipment available and you can actually relax! The staff are friendly and hardworking. I've seen them put the weights back regularly and they also have good routines when they need to check every section of the gym. The equipment is great - it's a fantastic mix of really good machines and free weights. Lots of options! The only issue is that no real sauna etiquette is enforced. People wear textiles, no don't bring towers in, they come in slippers, lots of people will come in wet from the swimming pool and then soak the sauna. Other than that this gym is perfect and I am extremely happy with it. I will still continue using the saunas despite lack of etiquette because I know this probably will never change.

Positive experience: left the gym, because it does not accommodate anyone with proper combat sports needs, There are only two boxing bags and none of them are heavy, and poorly filled with probably the wrong material, regardless of wearing gloves i still hurt my wrist on them because upon impact they bend harder into an angle than my wife… It’s a shame because this is the only gym near me, if the manager wasn’t lazy to invest into a pair of proper boxing bags that can last decades i’d re join , If someone is willing to get in touch with me to avoid more wrists to be taken out I can recommend an extremely lasting and high quality brand

Positive experience: The gym itself is great with the equipment they have, on its own it would probably get 4.5 rating. The thing that really lets it down is it's members. Weights are all over the place every time you go in (common but it's avoidable by the staff) If you actually want a relaxing Sauna or steam good luck, rude arrogant members will just talk at volume while you are in there all while doing 17 rounds in the Jacuzzi, each to their own on that part but it's not that big for everyone to use. Maybe get some signage to tell people to actually be quiet wouldn't go a miss and have some respect for their fellow gym users as it's putting people off using it.

Positive experience: The women's lockers you put money in, mens you need a pad lock. Just needs to be the same. Could do with more classes later on as most people are at work during the day. With these improvements it would make it 5 star .

Negative experience: I never experienced bad managing pool temperature for last two years, even winter time is worse! Always issue with temperature control!!!!! Good staff! But back office utterly useless. They intentionally do not want to hear any complaints!

Fantastic experience: To all necessary I am or have been a memeber now at the fitness academy in Bolton for many years And I have put up with this for the past years because of staff and convenience, but since now the new manager has arrived and changed things and removed some of the dead wood I cannot fault it , it’s great to see this gym coming back with a lot more new members and all great staff , Craig ,Ellise,Brian the cleaner ,Dan the assisitant manager are all friendly and help needs required , new cleaners are now in to keep maintaining cleanliness , i no alll gyms have issues it happens things break and things get dirty but from how it was to how it is now it deserves a mention . From young to old it seems to suit all Wi-Fi is usable here to some gyms you cannot connect if needed . Great job and glad to be a part of it. Roy Allman

Negative experience: Poor gym, poor management. I wasn't going to leave a review but the gyms response to the last review has angered me. Just because you don't agree with his review, don't accuse him of lying. That's unprofessional and very poor. What happened to 'the customer is always right'? Take criticism and act on it to make improvements instead of getting all aggressive and defensive! I have to agree with the last review. This place has massively gone down hill. The showers are cold which is unacceptable. Instead of putting signs everywhere about there being no hot water, get the flipping problem fixed! None of the soap dispensers in the showers have soap in them! Its takes weeks to refill when the soap finishes. How can this keep happening? ORDER EXTRA SOAP & RE-ORDER BEFORE IT RUNS OUT! Its pretty basic. Incompetent management to allow this too keep happening. Hygiene has improved slightly but still a very dirty place. A lot of the lockers absolutely stink and need cleaning daily. Will give it another month too see if things improve or will join another gym.

Negative experience: WORST GYM IN BOLTON!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! This is genuinely the worst gym in Bolton. The showers have not had hot water for 2 months!! The coldest time of the year and no hot water! Absolutely ridiculous. People are getting ill because they're having to shower with cold water. How hard it can it be to get someone out to fix the hot water?!?! Stop hiring cowboy plumbers to trying and save costs all the time and just get a proper plumber put to fix the problem. It's beyond a joke! The hygiene in the gym is shocking. Filthy stains and black mould all over the place. Staff get aggressive when you question why the water is cold or gym isn't clean! Its soo dirty, COVID-20 will probably originate from this place. This isn't budget a gym, at £35 a month its a premium gym but the quality and service is worse than the cheap £10 a month gyms. If a machine or piece of equipment breaks, its takes months to fix (probably trying to find the cheapest cowboy repairman around)! If you're looking for a new gym in the new year, definitely avoid this place, unless you want ice cold showers, a new variant of COVID and broken equipment.

Negative experience: Phoned about membership. Very unhelpful and dismissive. Told me to look online? How a member of staff cannot advise on membership options is beyond me. Useless, now gone elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Amazing gym, classes have been updated and are In view on tvs within the gym also on paper on the reception desk, friendly staff and also welcoming, the pool area gets deep clean every night before they close that’s why it closes 45 minutes early, can not complain whatsoever, I would definitely not recommend as a storage unit when your not using the gym or pool area or being there in general, overall a great gym to go to

Negative experience: Sauna was switched off at 2.00pm when closes at 4pm. Swimming pool was freezing cold is usually warm. Jacuzzi was also cold is meant to be warm .

Negative experience: I joined Burden Fitness Academy in Bolton, but my experience has been quite disappointing. The staff lacks friendliness and respect towards members, which creates an unwelcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the gym's facilities, particularly the steam room and sauna, are in poor condition and fail to meet the standard. The timing on weekends is another concern, as they close at 4 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, and shut down the Spa and sauna 45 minutes before closing. Moreover, I had an unfortunate incident where the staff removed items from my locker, claiming that overnight storage is not allowed. When I asked for my belongings, they couldn't locate them, and there was no proper communication regarding the policy. I had to purchase another lock myself, and to my dismay, they didn't even apologise for the inconvenience caused. I was never informed about the need to remove items before leaving the gym. If it weren't for the advance payment I made, I would never consider returning to this gym. I hope the management addresses these issues to improve the overall gym experience for members.

Positive experience: Average gym. Needs some investment. There is always something broken. Steam room has been broken for weeks, aircon doesn’t work and the equipment is generally pretty worn out.

Negative experience: Poor gym. Shocked that management haven't spoken to Asian/African member of staff at reception about his awful and extremely unprofessional appearance. Hair always looks like he's been electrocuted!!! What is going on with his hair? Seems like a Halloween character. He should comb/tie his hair instead of walking about like an absolute freak show. He's the 1st person you see at the gym and he instantly puts you off. Never smiles, miserable, no personal skills and scruffy! Good thing kids aren't allowed or they'd be frightened to death. Management have a word! Gym floor itself is ok. Decent size and equipment. Opening times on a weekend is pathetic! 4 o clock?! Please change.

Positive experience: Badly managed gym with potential to be better. When customers wanted later finish they made it earlier, 3:15pm close on weekend now. After a couple of years of filthy conditions cleaning staff are now getting on top of things. Lots of things break pretty regularly, or are closed to save money. When I was there today the steam room was broken, the heating was off so all showers and pool were freezing, the sauna was at about room temperature, and the air conditioning in the gym itself was off. Such a shame because with a decent manager it could be a good gym.

Negative experience: It’s not terrible but it could be so much better 10 different managers in 2 years whi try to sweep clean but sweep people out … classes that get cancelled very often imho no apparent direction to improve…. it’s a shame because there are bones of a really great gym 2 big studios and even a pool that’s open all,the time for General use and is cheap membership..I don’t work there any more

Fantastic experience: Easily accessible via bus or car. Huge car park and lots of equipments for working out/exercising.

Negative experience: Absolutely rubbish.Went with a friend and the gym is absolutely horrendous . Lots of rude staff who act like they work for free.Dirty showers and crawling with infections.Avoid at all costs, don’t make the same mistake as me !!

Negative experience: Absolutely poor customer service, health and safety issues inside the gym with machines. Staff telling u to leave if u don’t like it. Steam hasn’t been working for weeks and is set to be not opened for months but nobody knows what’s going on. They close gym at 4 on Sundays and close the spa faculties 45 mins early to ‘clean’. Not worth the price. If ur paying till the gym closes then why do u kick people out the spa 45 mins early?

Negative experience: Decent gym, but opening times are poor, they’ll take any reason to close. Look at times before joining. Also they keep moving the machines around, with no thought process.

Negative experience: Wife joined this gym so she could train AND take the little one swimming. Except they’ve now made it Over 18’s only, and the only notice saying that is at the entrance. Nothing online, no emails sent. New management is great, except when they don’t keep you updated.

Negative experience: it's ok but facilities are often out of service e.g. steam, suana, etc. for ages so you pay for the service you cannot receive which is unfair.

Positive experience: Clean, tidy and friendly. Pool gets busy and it's really annoying that people stay in the jacuzzi for ages not letting you in.

Positive experience: The facilities are decent for the price Tbf but what made me give a low rating is the fact that the customer service is appalling. So you freeze membership for a month even though i am out of contract i get told its done then still get charged full price. Called up asked why and because i don’t know who i spoke to lovely lady called Debbie with a stinking attitude who hasn’t got clue how to speak and deal with customer queries is giving mouth fulls over the phone. Glad I cancelled membership now good riddance.

Positive experience: I found the day pass was a great price. However, found that the was some sick on one of the pieces of equipment. Gym equipment was not the highest quality. But it was great to have a day pass to use gym and swim facilities. Some of the reception staff did not appear to be good health and wellness advocates, which was quite off putting. Other than that, would i visit again. Yes i probably would.

Positive experience: Not sure where all the terrible reviews have come from as my experience at this gym was amazing. We paid a day pass through the Hussle app (£6 with a discount code) and had a solid gym session and nice time in the spa. Staff are all really friendly and helpful with smiles on their faces at all times (a lovely change from most gyms) The gym itself was really cool with mood lighting throughout and a overall darker basement feel, some really cool equipment mostly plate weighted rather than cables. Dumbbells upto 60KG from what I could find. The benches in the gym where definitely slightly outdated and rather “firm” for lack of a rude word. I did find the gym extremely hot however not unbearable and the overall quality of the gym and equipment made up for this. We trained on a Saturday from around 11:30am - 1pm and I never felt like it was crowded with possibly 20 people total in this rather large gym! The spa was standard for the price with a decent sized steam room and pool although the sauna was rather small for the amount of people using it at the time. Large pool and a warm and cold shower depending on preference. Overall I give this gym / spa a 4/5 ✅

Negative experience: Poor service. I go swimming around three times a week for health reasons, the idea was to use the Jacuzzi after. However, use of the Jacuzzi is almost impossible. Men sit in it all the time I swim for 30 minutes and they are still in the Jacuzzi when I have finished this is very intimidating. I have asked several times for them to put a note up round the Jacuzzi requesting people don't stay in too long! They say they can't inforce how long people stay in the Jacuzzi . Final straw was a man using his phone for a video call whilst he was standing in the pool !! Again I mentioned this but staff didn't seem to be to bothered. Personally I found it a very intimidating place for ladies to swim there and staff semmed very uninterested. Manager was never available and didn't answer my email.

Negative experience: Not the first time this has happened....closing the pool without alerting people, they had a sign saying pool closed for maintenance...that's all well and good if you went the day before..what about notifying members by text so they don't just turn up, told then it's gonna be open in 20 mins, get changed then told another 30/40 mins before it's open. Wasted my lunch hr, wasted my fuel and wasted my time. Not impressed as this has happened before...

Need better cleaners mens shower are awful Update 2022: They have started to update the gym. Mens shower has been updated no more grimey shower. They now a chest fly machine and a pendulam squat machine also standing calf... Need more weight training equipment Update 2023 Seem like they are going backwards gym machine broken and will take weeks to fix or will not replace broken gym equipment. Steam room out of order for over 3 weeks. Staff are friendly but needs investment

Negative experience: Worst Gym in Bolton no one has a clue what they’re doing cancelled my 12 month membership months ago and they still keep taking payments ,cancelled the direct debit and they’re refusing to give me a refund.

Negative experience: The worst gym, professional standards way below, dirty, different prices for mates of this who work there. Kirsty the manager is rude, un professional and not truthful. Really makes you feel un easy and un welcome.

Negative experience: I went to view the pool before committing to a membership, all i can say is the middle aged woman on reception must have been having a bad day, she was rude, offhand and looked at me as though she had stood in something. A couple who had obviously just signed up arrived for what i assume was an induction, all she said in a very unpleasant way was, "through their and wait", no eye contact just waved her hand, never said hello, welcome, nothing, the couple were clearly shocked. Obviously prices are reasonable but you need to address the staff attitude, shame really.

I've given four stars as I think the classes could be improved however I still fully use and enjoy my membership. Since covid it's spotlessly clean and remains so. Good value for the price too.

Fantastic experience: I have been going for 17 years to dw and Burnden fitness , the staff are supportive and try their best to meet members needs it has a great wet side abs people should shower before entering sauna and steam that is why they are there , not to be criticising I enjoy the gym and all the help u get of staff and instructors , it’s the only gym in farnworth with a pool and steam and sauna and jacuzzi fab gym and staff , have always helped me reach my goals x carry on the great work Burnden x❤️

Negative experience: Haven't attended in a while, froze my membership on phone 1st time, 2nd time they said didn't get email, trying to freeze your account after 2 yrs of paying and not attending, is a joke they wasn't bothered about losing a customer cancelled my direct debit, need to make it more simpler, would take seconds on fone to freeze account

Negative experience: I will not attend this centre again. I witnessed horrendous service today. Two ladies in the jacuzzi today were picked on by two members these members were older. They proceeded to ask personal questions to these girls when one of them decided to stick up for herself a gang of 6 members decided to shout and swear at them making it a awkward experience for everyone present. The young ladies had done nothing wrong. They was then approached by management I am assuming and told to get out of the pool. These ladies did absolutely nothing wrong. These older members had no right to make these girls feel uncomfortable. I do not have a membership however a few of my family members and friends do and I will be telling them to cancel. Shocking
