Our comment from FitFit UK about Bosworth Hall Hotel & Spa:

Bosworth Hall Hotel & Spa is a charming destination located in the picturesque village of Market Bosworth. Surrounded by stunning grounds and historical architecture, this venue offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Guests have praised the friendly and accommodating staff, highlighting their willingness to assist with any requests. The hotel features a relaxing spa area and well-maintained leisure facilities, including a sauna and swimming pool, available for a small additional fee. Visitors often enjoy the diverse buffet breakfast and have had pleasant dining experiences during their stays, even though some reported inconsistencies with food quality.

However, several reviews have pointed out that while the environment is beautiful and ideal for relaxation, the hotel rooms are showing their age and could benefit from renovation and maintenance. Issues such as noise disturbance from neighboring rooms, the need for better cleaning protocols, and dated decor have been noted by guests. Parking has also been a point of contention, with guests receiving unexpected fines due to registration confusion.

Overall, Bosworth Hall presents a unique mix of historical charm and a relaxing atmosphere, making it a lovely spot for a getaway. With attentive staff and beautiful grounds, the hotel still holds great potential for improvement in areas that may enhance the guest experience further.

Negative experience: Awarded 2 stars for lovely staff and beautiful grounds. We stayed with a Groupon voucher. We were put in room 165, one of the worst hotel rooms I have ever been in. Whilst it was clean, it small and cluttered. The distance from the bed to the corridor was about a foot and walls were so thin, it was as if people were in the room with us when they walked by talking. Above us, it sounded like people were going to fall through the ceiling. We could also hear their conversations and there was a persistent tapping noise from the pipes that also sounded like water was dripping through the ceiling. Dinner was average (self-serve). Would not recommend or return

Negative experience: The 1970s called and they want their hotel back. Where to start, you have to pay extra to use the pool, this wasn't clear when we booked and very strange when you book a hotel because it has a pool. The room was very dated and in need of some tlc. We ate at the hotel in the evening, don't bother, firstly they had the wrong menu showing so we didn't get what we expected and then its at the level of poor school canteen food with cheap frozen food just reheated. They whole thing was just badly organised and it is not what is being advertised as an "elite" hotel and spa. It's a shame as the building is lovely, the staff are nice, and it could be amazing.

Negative experience: We were excited about our stay at this hotel, as it looks stunning from the outside, but unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. If you're visiting in winter, be prepared for freezing conditions – they don’t turn on the heating until 6 pm, and by breakfast, it’s already cold again. While the staff did provide us with a heater, it wasn’t enough to make up for the discomfort, and after just one night, we had to check out. The hotel has so much potential, but it’s really showing its age. The rooms are in desperate need of maintenance and updating. For an "elite venue," the rooms felt basic and tired, which was really disappointing. The clientele during our visit was also a major downside. At nearly 50, I felt incredibly young – the average age of the guests was around 65. We didn’t even get to experience the spa, as we couldn’t stay any longer after a cold night and an even colder breakfast. Overall, this hotel needs significant improvements to match its potential.

Negative experience: If I could give this hotel 0 stars I would. Where do I begin.... The only positive - Bosworth is a lovely little village. Stayed here from 5th - 8th December 24 visiting from South Australia. Since returning home, we have received two parking fines which the car hire company have forwarded to us and charged a £55 admin fee for each ticket. Parking was included with our stay and the receptionist confirmed she validated our registration when we checked in. The hotel cancelled the first ticket pretty quick but they have so far ignored all 3 emails I have forwarded to them requesting they cancel the second ticket. This is not good enough and has caused us unecessary stress. Check in process: It took 30 minutes to check in as the receptionist, Elizabeth (lovely woman btw) checking us in was quite new and doing all the work whilst the other two older women did nothing but eyebrow raise! They were both unfriendly and unwelcoming. They clearly did not want to work there and certainly did not want to help the new girl. There were lots of hotel guests interrupting our check in requesting milk and toilet paper (coach load). It resembled Faulty Towers!! 3 staff behind the desk but the poor woman checking us in doing all the work. We were eventually given verbal directions to our room location. Needless to say we couldn't find our rooms. Ended up asking a handyman for help and he escorted us to our room. A hotel map with room directions would solve this issue. No lift to our room which was first floor behind the bar. We had heavy cases too. It was hard work getting up the stairs with our luggage. £4 per day per person to use gym/pool on top of room charge per night. We were not aware of this until we tried to use the pool. I returned to reception and requested a second key for our room. The older receptionist with red hair refused to give me a second key. Stated i needed to produce the original key for a copy to be made but i didnt have it with me. Being 2 of us, we needed 2 keys. Husband and I went back together later and male reception staff very helpful and gave us a second key. Strangely enough, he did not need our key to make a copy. Very bizarre. Rooms not cleaned or serviced whole stay (3) nights. No clean towels. Bins over flowing. Intact, we did not see a cleaner the whole time we were there. Breakfast hot but dried up. Fried eggs like rubber. Breakfast items not refilled with fresh food. Poor girl working in the breakfast room alone and rushed off her feet. None of the staff seem happy at this hotel. They put their heads down when they walk past. I have never stayed anywhere so unwelcoming. There was a terrible sewerage smell in the corridors too. We were glad to leave.

Fantastic experience: Upon checking in the reception staff were outstanding Jo and Liz. Nothing was a problem for them. I was given lots of information local knowledge and they made me feel welcome and at home. The hotel is set in fabulous grounds and the staff are very friendly and informative Very much worth a visit whether on business or wanting to visit the local area or relax at the spa

Positive experience: Does what it says on the tin! If you are expecting a luxury spa break this may not be for you, however if you are looking for cheap and cheerful with average spa facilities set in beautiful grounds then this is the place for you. Room better than anticipated. Previous reviews had suggested that the WiFi was poor and expensive, this is not true! WiFi is free and very good! Hotel staff were all friendly and helpful the duty manager Matt delivered extra pillows promptly to my room. The hotel has some really nice period features and places where you can sit and enjoy a drink or read a book. £4 supplement to use the spa facilities which is cheap however you get what you pay for. No robes or slippers provided so take your own flip flops for pool area. The village of Market Bosworth is a 5 min walk from the hotel and has half a dozen pubs and a small cute coffee shop. This is a 3 star hotel don’t expect more. Overall good value for money.

Negative experience: Hotel doesn't clean the rooms. Stayed Mon to Friday for the past 2 weeks and rooms don't get cleaned no towels toilet roll etc. I complained and was told to book in a room clean last week I had to collect towels and toilet roll from reception Restaurant is never open rooms are dated very noisy as it's a old building which you could love with if the service was half decent Mainly only suited for cheap contractor rooms but even then it won't last of it continues being ran this way

Fantastic experience: Must say it’s our favourite over night stay , staff amazingly lovely, Bernie the front desk receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. Thank you all

Negative experience: Beautiful location and nice historic building but rooms need a major update. Taps and toilet dripped alnight, shower fixed so low thst if you're over 5'6 you will stuggle. Rooms not cleaned or attended in 4 nights- wet/damp towels and full bins. Food OK but often ran out meaning long waits for it to be refilled. Also there is a charge to use the pool. Will not return.

Negative experience: The toilet was broken in or room wen I asked for a refund the next morning the manager math was so ignorant and a little aggressive made me feel very embarrassed about the whole thing and was very accusive was so little Making I have twins 1 year old we thot it would be a nice getaway, but unfortunately it turned into a night of hell with and to be abused and ignorantly abused the next morning

Positive experience: The whole hotel needs a complete renovation as there are a large number of defects throughout the hotel. The breakfast was very poor, no tables even after booking a time. Food was of a poor quality and cold.

Positive experience: We should have stayed for 2 nights we left after 1. I would just like to say the housekeeping staff were lovely and obliging nothing to much trouble. Thank You!!! When we were shown to our room the smell wasn't to noticeable all the windows were open. Then it got dreadful we had to sleep with the windows open it was overpowering. We complained at reception early morning but No one came. I used to be a full facilities manager and expect standards to be acceptable for the cost of the accomodation.our room was clean, and acceptable apart from the smell.. The evening meal wasn't good restaurant staff nice! But food not Good!! Breakfast choice ok I could expand on the standard but only a caterer would know!!! The bar area was cold and not enough seating.. So we went back to our room which was warm we sprayed round with body spray and kept the bathroom door closed. We met some lovely coach residents, and staff were friendly but decided to come home due to the Smell in the room and the food. I hope these issues can be resolved and I would think about coming back!! Lovely settings, lovely staff...

Negative experience: First room was awful smelt of drains up really steep staircase lifts not working very dirty bedroom with a rock hard bed and one pillow each changed rooms next day to a better room no hot water first night still run down and dated but only had one small set of stairs lovely setting staff very nice and reception helpful very busy three coaches in staying no room in bar to sit and drink the hotel smelly of drains in a couple of public areas and bedroom .wouldn't recommend staying there again nicer places around it's a shame it's a very grand house but rooms let it down

Positive experience: Visited for a tribute act night.checking is was a lengthy exspriance given an envelope with details of tribute night when opened no details had to return to reception Good hard working staff however not enough staff Bars only had 2 at best at any one on many occasions only one serving Waited 25 minutes to get served in function room. Buffet food for dinner and breakfast was very good but once again not enough staff at dinner we had to remove dirty plates Restaurant tables too close together very difficult to move round dining room Our exsperiance was that the hotel could not cope with the tribute night All it required was a few more staff to provide a good over-all customer experience

Negative experience: Room was smelling dump, handle for bath was all rusted, worse of all, every time you go to bar they charge you different price, buy one get one free at certain time it's not working, barmen still charges you what ever he feels like it. We seen at reception that other people was complaining same problem but no one did care or bothered. Unfortunately it was not a great experience.

Negative experience: Booked here for my wife’s birthday thought it’s in a nice location and we would enjoy a nice romantic night away this didn’t happen so the room was no bigger then our spare room at home the bath was filthy the shower head looked like it been brought from b&m cheap and flimsy used toilet roll unbelievable ‍♂️ so we thought dinner would be lovely too go and have not what I was expecting at all so onion rings soft and undercooked the stew well it’s 2024 not the 1920s have a word the chicken and mushroom pie oh dear if you like hard chicken that’s been under the Bain Marie too long the vegetables hello rock hard does the chef know how too cook vegetables ? I shalt go on but buffet was a stay away but the soup was nice with the bread anyway later on down the corridor from where we was staying smelt of cannabis I reported this but no one spoke to us in the morning all they had done was shut the doors leading on too the corridor and then breakfast only thing good about that was the tinned fruit owing too the bacon fat being raw and under done and the eggs were hard like they had been in the oven too long on the large try could play the drums on them very disappointing if that’s the chef for breakfast and dinner just think who does the wedding food my wife has asked for a refund but has just been ignored I would not recommend for anyone or stomachs

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful staff.Excellent variety of food to choose from in the carvery.Take no notice of the negative reviews given for this hotel.

Zeshan Ajaib 1 year ago

Negative experience: The grounds, the buildings and the location are lovely. It's reasonably priced and there are a good selection of shops and restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. However, when you first arrive you have to register your car, but the tablets used to do this were very temperamental and the QR code didn't really work because there's no phone reception to use the internet and register your car. Hotel staff were okay, they work long days and it's quite obvious due to the amount of people in the queue all the time. The first room I was given was unbearable, it did not smell pleasent at all. The staff were quick to change my room after I told them. The room is okay, dated decor, the mattress wasn't great. I could hear the toilet flushes from the room above and you can hear everything that goes on in the rooms above you, next to you and opposite you. The bathroom wasn't great, there's no ventilation for the steam to escape from so there was a bit of mould on the ceiling. They also use shower curtains and you have to have them inside the bath, thus not having much space to move around without making contact with the curtain. There's no WiFi in the rooms, which wasn't great because I needed to then purchase the "Premium" WiFi and it was about £7 a night. I paid for 5 nights. After 2 days of usage, on the 3rd say it asked for payment again, but the receptionist sorted it out by giving me a voucher. I won't be staying again, but it wasn't bad for the price.

Positive experience: Bosworth Hall set within the scenic countryside is a characterful historic venue. Attracting guests from all walks of life. While staying for just the evening, a wedding reception took place and a semi large social society. Although the hotel at seemingly full capacity, we didn’t have any issues waiting for a table at either the evening dinner or following morning breakfast. Ordering a tipple at the bar had an ok wait time. For any guests preferring to pay in cash, be warned the hotel only accepts cashless. Not an issue for us but wonder if it would be useful to mention this on their website? Checking in was prompt as pre-booking and payment was actioned a few days prior. Unfortunately, there was a little miscommunication with the staff member booking us in. mispronouncing my first name with something a little ‘unpleasant sounding’. Correcting the member of staff, I may have either embarrassed or offended him as his entire demeaner became a little frosty and unfriendly. Resulting in feelings of anxiety. I apologise if I caused him any offence or embarrassment, resulting in the way he chose to interact with me. Food: As you may have read in other reviews, the food is not something you would travel for. Not brilliant but good enough for one or two nights. Any longer, I would recommend driving to a local restaurant. Same for the breakfast, just fine for a quick bite before starting your day, but nothing special. We chose to have a night away in this venue due to the historic architecture and stunning grounds. This did not disappoint. Exploring around the hotel and grounds, the swimming pool was very popular and each communal room boasted find carpets, wooden panelled walls and even a gorgeous baby grand piano. Retiring for the evening, the room was clean, warm and quiet – more or less. Bath a little small but the shower had an impressive pressure. Due to the age of the property, it is completely understandable you will hear creeks from the floor above. Overall, this was a very pleasant place to stay.

Positive experience: Bosworth Hotel and spar. My first impression was ,yes, nice Mansion style house in a lovely location and would probably be great for weddings etc, obviously if money was no object... But for me a one to two night stay ,It didn’t fill my expectations, in the hotel part , the room was cramped and awkward, and more like a broom cupboard with a bed, toilet and bath with a fixed shower nozzle, which was unmovable and only showered the mid and bottom section of my body, and a clinging shower curtain is not a shower experience I want to repeat. I suppose they do have some better rooms, but obviously at an extra cost. The WiFi is not included in the price of your stay, and the use of the spar and pool comes at an extra cost To use the pool is £4 per person, and the towels are £1 each, but that depends on which member of staff is on at the time, because, to be honest, some of the staff are a bit clueless to prices and restaurant times, etc, which differ from the hotel information sheet. On the other hand the buffet dinner in the restaurant was very nice and reasonable priced.

Jamie's Corner 1 year ago

Negative experience: The service was just fine but compared to the price, it’s not compatible. Check in: 4pm, check out: 10am. That’s ridiculous. We were a couple but they gave us a room with 3 single beds. How poor the care was! Lack sockets for electrical things. No slippers in the room. The rooms are not soundproof. No time to enjoy the facilities and the prices are excluded.

Mohammed Shauaib 1 year ago

Negative experience: Appaling service and communication. No customer service skills what so ever especially from Emma (ops manager). Stayed at this place twice, after an encounter with the ops manager with a complaint she just fibbed me off, what happened to going the extra mile, forget a mile not even an inch by the NPC guess this is the end of the line

ashley plumpton 1 year ago

Negative experience: Firstly, this place is not a 3 star hotel, maybe during the 80s it was! The ironic thing about this hotel is that it's a part of the ELITE venue selection, which there was nothing about my stay or this place that was elite in the slightest. I have stayed in many hotels, often for business never before have I experienced a place like this. Good luck locating your room. The place is a maze, and each corridor had frustrated, angry guests all trying to find their rooms. The signs are so confusing. After 15 mins, I found mine, eventually. The room finish is so dated. I felt like I was in a 80's film, not to mention the thin ceilings that constantly squeak with every movement. You can also hear the upstairs conversations... Ironing board broken, shower head about 4 ft above the bath, I am average height 5ft 11" and had to crouch to fit under. There was no room clean in between my stay, and a blocked, poorly flushing toilet was not great at all. But the crown jewel for me was another guest barging Into my room with his bags after the hotel double booked him and he had access to my room, after going to reception to Complain I returned to find my key no longer working as It had been cancelled out by his. I returned the next day for my final night stay, got to my room to find the key had been cancelled out again and unable to enter my room, upon entering no clean had been done and the toilet still blocked. Honestly, I would never stay here again. The grounds are lovely and the actual hotel you can see an argument for the dated old hotel look, but with many disgruntled guests at the desk everytime I went past, it shows this place has issues and needs serious money and time spending on it.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel with lovely gardens surrounding the hotel. The staff are friendly and efficient. Clean and fresh bedrooms. Some standard rooms have a fridge and the bedroom we were in was slightly on the small side ...still nice. Dog friendly inside the hotel, apart from the restaurant, which is good.

Fantastic experience: We stayed here for a weekend break. Our initial reason for staying at the Bosworth Hall hotel was because it has a swimming pool. The hotel itself is busy but it is huge. The rooms are comfortable The beds are good too Our bathroom was a tad tight but functional. Breakfast is self service buffet We didn't eat at the hotels restaurants so can't advise there but the menus looked good. I personally would stay here again

Negative experience: Was booked for a room on the 22nd of July and got a parking ticket. After appealing for this process they denied my parking ticked based on the fact that I did not enter the details into a terminal. However, on site I was told to fill out a paper form which I did correctly and still no appeal. On top of this they charge you extra for internet in the rooms and it was very hot with no fan or ways to open the window. DO NOT COME HERE.

Positive experience: Lovely hotel in some very nice grounds, I only stayed for one night. The rooms are OK, there can be some noise mind, or should I say that some people can be more noisy then others.. especially at 5.30am walking about very loud and heavy footed above my room. Definitely would stay again.

Paul B 1 year ago

Positive experience: Large country hotel with easy access to the local village less than a 10 minute walk. Large well kept grounds. Staff are fantastic. Room was very clean and had been refurbished to a comfortable standard. Food was ok, this is based on my experience at a wedding and mass catering. Breakfast very good with lots of hot and cold food choices probably the best juice machine ive used in a hotel. I have scored a 3 due to some negatives. A lack of accessible plug sockets in room, none near bed, had to unplug the TV. The toilet flush didnt work well. The bars shut early which was suprising given there was a function on and usually bars are open late for residents. The Wi Fi is usually free in hotels, not here it was very expensive at £7 for just one day. The hotel is large with many different areas linked by corridors and staircases, unfortunately a complete lack of useful signage. I would return but only for a function, not a couples short break.

Negative experience: BEWARE OF THIS HOTEL, STAFF DO NOT INFORM YOU THAT YOU NEED TO TYPE YOUR CAR REGISTRATION PLATE INTO THEIR COMPUTER , THEREFORE YOU RECIEVE A £100 FINE, WHEN I CALLED THE GUY TQLKED DOWN TO ME AND SAID WE CANT DO ANYTHIBG ABOUT IT, THEREFORE I LOST MY RAG, MANAGER CALLED ME BACK STATING WE DO NOT TOLERATE TALKING BACK TO THEOR STAFF AND THEREFORE WILL NOT REVERSE THE CAR PARKING CHARGE, SO THE STAFF LIED. WHAT A SCAM THIS HOTEL IS. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD THAT THE ROOM WE STAYED IN WAS DIRTY, AND THE BED? WELL IVE SLEPT ON BETTER FLOORS WHEN CAMPING. DO NOT USE ITS CHEAP FOR A REASON CUSTOMER SERVICE? DONT MAKE ME LAUGH

Jonny Parker 1 year ago

Negative experience: Member of the gym as a local resident, multiple pieces of equipment were broken constantly and the whole environment was filthy. I was given a parking fine when the machine to enter my number plate was broken as the car park is owned by a 3rd party company. The hotel did not want to know when I complained and ultimately cancelled my membership. It could be a lovely hotel if not owned by Britannia hotels, worst hotel chain in the UK by far!

Meredith Parsons 1 year ago

Positive experience: Beautiful setting - lovely gardens. We did appreciate the buffet full English breakfast. We did not love our room. I can't speak to all of them, however, the beds were not comfy. My husband described it as sleeping on camping cots. The room was bigger - which was nice to spread out, but the bathroom and room in general needs updating. It did have an ironing board & iron, extra pillows, toiletries and fan. But it wasn't the greatest hotel where we stayed during our trip. Oh and there is no cell service or wifi at the hotel! Be weary of two things: 1. We got 2 parking tickets, even though we were allowed to stay there and park for free. We are still fighting that. 2. They host weddings and events there -so it can be crowded and often loud from people celebrating. Would we go back - yes if we had a better room!

Positive experience: Amazingly beautiful hotel in a stunning location action. Friendly and helpful staff. The room was smaller than most others I've stayed in on a basic budget and could do with a little maintenance - cold tap very hard to turn on and then dripped for hours, bath panel cracked and a shower that fluctuated between skin blistering hot to ice cold. Overall an enjoyable stay and I would recommend to friends and family.

Negative experience: Absolute joke of a hotel! Signage for parking is poor, staff are rude, quality is shocking overall! Parked in car park whilst visiting hotel guests up from London, parked for 30 mins and got a £60 fine! Obviously needing these fines to assist with a refurb for the poor below par hotel and bar! Reception staff even advise you to avoid eating in the restaurant there due to the poor quality food! Says it all

DAVID Bartlett 1 year ago

Negative experience: At first glance the Hotel looks amazing, however the service and rooms are lacking the attention to detail expected. Upon arrival after a 200 mile drive all that is expected from reception is a professional and friendly check in, unfortunately Bosworth Hall staff offer neither. The rooms are in need of an upgrade but are clean. The main problem is noise, I was woken at 4am by the unacceptable noise of movement above my room (think of a baby elephant moving furniture!). This noise continued until I left at 6.30am as there was no chance of any sleep. Bosworth Hall I am sure is a good place for weddings and convenient for wedding guests to stay but not a place to stay if you are as a couple or small group.

Positive experience: Rooms are a nice size and clean. There is a pricing option for every budget here. I had a cheaper room which was downstairs where there was no internet signal. Free WiFi in reception but not in the room. It didn't get 5* because check in takes ages and the staff were dismissive and unhelpful also not very friendly. Nice location, walkable for town, beautiful grounds

Positive experience: It's okay. It needs some modernising. Internet is expensive and something that should be free at all hotels. The room we had was an executive room and it was just "ok". It performed it's function but I didn't want to take any photos and show my friends.

Negative experience: Very unfriendly receptionist. Both lunch and our special 3 course meal were cold. Staff flustered. Breakfast ok but also cold. Waitress spilt boiling water from drip tray over me blocked out of room 1 hour before check out time. Only continued with our stay because we were with a group.

Positive experience: Upon arriving the building looks amazing. I was there to celebrate our anniversary as I am a wheelchair user I have mixed feelings as there is no ramp on the entrance unless we miss another entrance lol the place is big inside! Even had a treat to massage. The staff at the spa are so lovely and friendly. The hotel is very busy. So many stairs did find a lift after asking how to get to where breakfast was lol. The doors are not exactly disabled friendly. However I had a beautiful day and an adventure thank you for a lovely day

Fantastic experience: Absolutely stunning place to stay overnight. Hotel is next to Bosworth Hall with amazing grounds around. Friendly staff and they allow dogs to stay in hotel. Charge for one dog is £10. We have stayed one night. Lovely location in country with village close by with great restaurants. I would definitely recommend to stay here is you fancy good relaxing weekend away.

Negative experience: Stayed for one night arrived early and asked reception if we could leave our bags as we were travelling by scooter ,so we only had small bags, but we were told no , and then we asked reception were the nearest petrol station was but they did not know, not very helpful. The room was ok needs an upgrade and there was a lot of noise late at night and early morning from above and around so we didn't get much sleep. The mirror is on the wardrobe door but there is no socket that I could find? Sockets are on the other side of the room so not good when using the hairdryer. Nice bar area and grounds. Would not recommend staying here.

Negative experience: Hi My wife and I were supposed to be being treated by a family friend - you book it and I will pay for it , I said only if you join us for dinner at lease - so we did , My wife booked the hotel, and when we got there we find out dinner is served up to 8.30 pm , and no food beyond that - which to us was confusing we thought you could have food in the bar afterwards your website says "Courtyard Bar Enjoy bubbly beverages, from sweet lemonades to sparkling champagnes in Bosworth’s Courtyard Bar. We’re also great for dining with a view and serve a wide selection of light meals. Friday - Sunday: 12 noon - midnight " , however this was an issue as our family friend suggested she was not able to get to us till 9 pm - due to childcare, however lucj was on our side - her babysitter agreed to arrive earlier - fantastic went to book a meal for the three of us in the restaurant - last orders 8pm ! Nightmare , however they compromised we would get there as early as we could - however no menu available to take back to the room - ok... so we found another work around as I took a picture of the menu showing starters main course and dessert . It was during this time we were told there was no fresh milk available in the hotel .... all the milk is UHT , so if you want fresh milk - I was told you would have to go to the shops ( by reception) nightmare again , np found another work around the hotel starbucks kindly found proper fresh milk , so having finally got to dinner time , navigating the bath tub which creaks and rusting handles and shower which is not much use for my wife when she wanted to wash her hair ( being permed recently ) needed to be rinsed thoroughly and she is 4.11 so not tall enough for the fixed shower head - np found another work around with the kettle being used as a jug ! when we arrived at dinner at 08.05 it was lovely to be met with "oh your the 8.15 table" .... and not hello, and then left at the table to 8.20pm when we were basically told we had to A help ourselves , and it all was being removed at 8.30 .... I was so glad I got my own drinks otherwise by the time the drinks arrived the restraint would be closed ... so taking it all in good spirits we made a joke about it and tried to move on ... not so lucky - starter was pate - I asked if there was any toast to go with it - and was given a twin pack of Jacobs cream crackers... no butter , and by this time we were out of time almost - so starters of coleslaw potato salad and pate with crackers - got to say that's unique - eaten win literally 1 min by all three of us followed by .... food that clearly had been out several hours on a heat lamp which look abysmal , however on fear of having nothing to eat at all - we all slopped the brown gooo ( beef stew) with what looked like day old roast potatoes onto plates and headed for a seat ... as we landed we were asked if we wanted any more main course .... as they wanted to take it away ...in fear of not getting anything else we agreed we would not eat any more brown gooo , instead relying on the fact there might be a decent desert - we saw 1 pre packed trifle , and what looked like brake bros death by chocolate cake ( no cream) as we had been heading for our seat - however having eaten said brown gooo we were left with no dessert restaurant closed no staff about .... I could see my wife about to loose any sense of proportion ... and I think the one member of staff we did find could see we were clearly rattled by the whole "dining experience" kindly took away all the plates, side plates and starter crockery and cutlery ... and returned with two warm per packed trifles . and all in all we paid £52.00 awful for what we paid

Positive experience: Loved this place until our third night which is sunday evening, the menu stated roast beef with mash potatoes, roast potatoes, veg and Yorkshire puddings. Because there were only 6 diners, the chef decided that chicken would do. No veg apart from shrivelled marrow. There was 6 tiny pieces of potato on top of a bed of what looked like baby sick, which turned out to be mushed mushrooms mixed with garlic. A fellow diner even had blood in her chicken. I opted for a dish of chips. We were told that the chef wouldn't cook a sunday dinner because there isnt enough diners. Bless him, I can cook a wonderful sunday dinner at home and there is only two of the spa area is lovely although could do with an update.

Fantastic experience: We were here for a Ball for the weekend. Bit of confusion at the reception desk, when booking in, as we had a special rate for Saturday night, but standard rate for Friday. Because of this, we had 2 separate bookings, which required separate payments and we had to 'check out' & 'check in' on Saturday morning.. odd. However, this start did not detract from the impressive building and it's style. Obviously, some of the furnishings in the room were dated, but, it was spotlessly clean, lovely fresh clean bedding and towels. The bathroom had a bath with shower overhead, the shower was excellent, just as you would hope. Breakfast was plentiful, freshly cooked and tasty. Plenty of options of cooked fare, continental style and cereals, tea, coffee, juice etc. The staff were extremely busy, but very polite and helpful nonetheless. Our Saturday evening event was a great success, the food delivered on lovely hot plates, table by table so we all received our food at the same time. It was delicious and enjoyable. The waiting staff were so polite, friendly, helpful and gracious with their time which meant a lot to us all. The venue was a perfect setting for our event and praise must go to all the staff, in particular the waiting staff. The only blip was having our room cards deactivated on Sunday morning at 10am, instead of 11am preventing us from returning to collect our bags etc after an extremely busy breakfast (manned again by busy but efficient staff). I sincerely thank the chambermaid (in the Spindles area) who assisted me and my neighbour in accessing our rooms. We will definitely look to return to this amazing hotel, to explore a bit more of the area, and spectacular grounds.

Fantastic experience: My friend and I had a spa day last week with a treatment each and lunch after in the bar of the hotel. The spa facilities are lovely and the massage I had by Niamh was amazing, the best I've ever had. Meal was a prawn baguette but plenty of it and quick service. The staff are lovely and helpful. The place does look a bit tired in places but it's so big so dread to think how much it costs to run. Could do with lockers that lock in the changing room but I could leave my bag in reception. All in all very nice and a fabulous treatment.

Negative experience: SCAM WARNING - AVOID THIS HOTEL Went to this hotel last year, 14.3.2023 - since I have had 2 parking fines - first I contested - "24hr response" never arrived a week later I have another one with a seemingly sister company who you must appeal with the first one before the 2nd one is accepted and the 2nd one can only be appealed in writing. I do hope that there isn't a 3rd that requires me to attend in person with both parents and grandparents. The hotel ONLY has a 0870 premium rate number to call. Complete waste of my time for a 1 night stay and clearly a scam. Hotel was grubby, silverfish in the bathroom, front desk staff were unhelpful- did not advise closing time for the kitchens - this was not mentioned on any paperwork given, so when we arrived for the food we had paid for, we were laughed at and told the kitchen closed 15 minutes ago. and the online menu was 3 years out of date. (catering, spa and bar staff were lovely) Venue and grounds were beautiful its such a shame.

Positive experience: Location is good if you want a relaxing scenic quiet trip away, not a lot in the town centre bar a few takeaways, pubs and 1 co-op shop Hotel is beautiful inside and out with fresh carpets and long corridors and no nasty smells. Only issue is locating your room without getting lost as it’s a maze of arrows and numbers. Beautiful grounds to walk around and lots of parking space. Room was adequate nice firm pillows and mattress, big screen tv but chargeable wifi which is the story of most Britannia chain hotels, bath was minuscule as well. Overall for under £50 a night it’s a bargain and well worth the money.

Positive experience: For the price you pay you cannot complain about anything. They have slowly started to upgrade rooms and restaurant. Food is a bit hit and miss at times but you certainly won't starve! The reception staff were much jollier and friendly this time. The receptionist who was always in a bad mood seems to have disappeared. I would recommend a stay here. We didn't visit the spa this time because the hotel was full of kids so wouldn't have been able to get a decent swim.

Negative experience: Do not trust this hotel with your credit card number. They charged over £1k to my credit card and you'll struggle to get them to pay it back. No invoice, no communications from the hotel just boom a huge charge to a credit card on a day before I stayed (had already paid for the stay via central Britannia bookings - this was a charge from the hotel). Be warned!

Negative experience: Bedrooms are paper thin, can hear people outside in the corridors Corridors are very narrow, have to give people way as they walk past Parking here is free, they charge for WiFi and everything else. Swimming pool is £4 a person, all other amenities come at a cost Booked a double room, was given a room with 2 singles merged together. Had to request an actual double. The whole place is very maze like and easy to get lost. The atmosphere/theme can feel abit pub like, with there being people drinking beers at the bar. Bedroom itself was quite small, not alot of space to walk around. If you're expecting something fancy due to how the pictures look - I wouldn't recommend them.

Fantastic experience: A very nice stay - had one of the cheaper rooms, but it had everything we needed. Food was well priced - evening 3 courses help yourself £17.00 per person - a bargain and a style similar breakfast. Under the circumstances I can't fault.

Fantastic experience: For the price we paid this place was excellent nice clean room spotless clean bedding extra pillows, coffee and tea making facilities, lovely bar friendly staff and reasonable prices. Lots of history, beautiful historic room, sauna Spa, bike and tennis courts hire, swimming pool, jacuzzi, restaurant

Alex G 1 year ago

Positive experience: Very confusing parking arrangements. Signs indicate that you need to pay £5 by phone, but then there are arrangements to register your number plate at the reception desk for which there doesn't seem to be a charge. Also unclear about which entrance door to use. The door to reception is to the left hand side of the building, as opposed to the centre door which leads into a lounge.

Negative experience: I would NOT recomend getting a treatment at the spa. It is now two days after my mini facial, and my skin is the worst I have ever felt. The first day it felt sore, then after 24 hours it started to almost crack and flake. It is absolutley awful. And I have come out in TWO HUGE cold sores, which I have NEVER had in my life!!! They are so painful, ugly, and I am NOT impressed.

Negative experience: Fawlty towers with Internet. The original manor and grounds are wonderful, tho presentation is a bit tacky . But the hotel is dire. Good points are the staff, hard-working and cheerful under great pressure, and the food, well cooked varied and plentiful, for both healthy eaters and the greedy. However.... It's all a bit 1980s and run down. There is (slow) Internet in some public areas, but in the room you pay, as we all did in the 2000s. Cost is £7 (!) for a "day", but that only connects one device (!) and a "day" is 12 hours (!!!). If you want a drink in the bar on Friday or Saturday night you're in a queue of maybe 12 people, because there is only one unfortunate person serving. Sound separation between the rooms is poor, and many of the floors creak at every step.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful area surrounded by natural greenery which is beautiful to look at. I regularly go here for a spa day with family and I've never had a complaint. The only negative thing I have is there in the poolside the windows are absolutely disgusting full of ants and algae which really need cleaning or at least secondary window double glazing as there is a draft there as well. Massages are really nice and the people there are good

Fantastic experience: I have just spent Good Friday, Easter Saturday/Sunday at this hotel. I had a great time. 80's weekend entertainment was great both nights and a disco. Also had 2 for 1 drinks from 7pm til 10pm. All staff were very helpfull and friendly. Foid was self service with good selection and replenished all the time. I will be back.

Positive experience: Went there for a tribute weekend, had a lovely time. Can't fault the food. They really need to sort the boiler out though, woke up to no heating and no hot water.

Joe Banks 1 year ago

Negative experience: A thin facade of opulence barely hiding the obvious cracks inside. We're to start on this disappointment of a hotel, the room is dirty, tiny (no bigger than a shoebox) that looks like it's last renovation was back in the 70s. Everything costs from the pool, to the WiFi quite frankly I'm surprised they don't charge you for the air! To cap it all the staff are none existent and what little are around are slow and rude. If you looking for romantic retreat then stay away as honestly you'll find better at a truck stop on a motorway.

Negative experience: Visited the spa with a hen do. The sauna and relaxation room were out of action, the steam room was constantly steaming and heard a few people there saying that it wasn’t right. The pool and hot tub were nice but very dated and were in need of a good clean, the same for the toilets! More cleaning needs to be done more frequently. The whole place needs a revamp! The water temperature was nice as well as the treatment.

Local Lloyd 1 year ago

Negative experience: Sadly I had to leave after just over 2 hours. We really needed a nice relaxing sleep and thus was just down the road. At 9.30 we were woken by a staff member chatting on the radio to colleagues about finding an empty room. It was hard to find the check in reception which was decorated with dead flowers. The room was clean but very very tired. It was well equipped but for the sake of some fresh paint and some new silicone sealant it would of made the world of diffrence. £59 but for a couple of hours was expensive.

Debra Pratt 1 year ago

Positive experience: Went away with friends for the Ed Sheeran and Pink weekend. The hotel staff are excellent and went above and beyond to help (especially Robert) . The lift doesn't go to all the floors and there are steps everywhere! Because the room we were originally allocated wasn't suitable we were upgraded to a more suitable option. It was amazing. The only trouble was there was no WiFi and so I couldn't go to YouTube and work out how to use the coffee machine...no biggy. The beds were amazingly comfortable and the power shower was amazing! The food was ok .... the waiting staff were great and very helpful and friendly. But again, there were steps up and down to the restaurant and buffet service. The function room is above the leisure centre... again up and down stairs. The leisure centre has an elevator to the changing rooms but then steps up and down from the pool area. Not disabled friendly at all.

Fantastic experience: I have been using this hotel on and off for over a year now for work. The hotel is dated, but that suits the surroundings and the period feature building. Always been welcomed, quick check in, reasonable prices, easy to park. Spa/ swimming pool is additional cost, like the WiFi, but due to the cost of how low the rooms are costed, I don’t mind the additional cost.

Stacey Powell 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Great location with shops nearby and a market on a wednesday which is worth going to have a look at as lovely cakes there! Reception was busy at times but staff very friendly and helpful and ask more about the hotel they will happily tell you some stories which they have experienced. Would definitely go back however the gym and swimming pool is not included and will have to pay as little as £4! which you can't moan about. Did have to change room but they let us change rooms and next day they sorted the door and toilet out which could be heard as we went into a room next door. So you can't fault them with that either. Great experience.

Positive experience: Made a late booking, a bit of a delay checking in due to the new IT system. Jackson looked after us well during the process. The room was warm and comfortable. Will visit again.

Curly “Out and About” 1 year ago

Negative experience: Such a shame a beautiful place in amazing surroundings is being allowed to be run in such a haphazard way. For a hotel relying on workers to keep the week trade ticking over it amazes me the way I was treated on arrival. Working on the road I arrived late (7.30) to find my booking could not be found after 15 mins it was finally found. I was then Informed that my company could not pay by card over the phone so I had to pay for a company stay out of my own pocket. This would normally be fine as once I had a receipt I could claim that back, however I was informed in the morning that the computer systems were down so I would need to email the following Monday (7days later) to receive said receipt. I feel that passing on a problem to the customer to deal with is not the way that things should be done. To follow I ran up to my room to read that food stopped at 8.30pm, I went down to the bar before cleaning up at 8.05pm to be told food had finished being served. I had to argue for 10 mins to finally be served a panini and chips and watched other guests disappointedly turned away after me…. Shower also had almost no water pressure but that I can deal with. To finish positively. Breakfast was excellent and the room and bed were comfortable and good quality. Such an amazing setting deserves to be looked after better Brittania Hotels.

Rob Parrish 1 year ago

Negative experience: It was a tired hotel and I had a few problems with rooms. They weren't overly warm and there was no hot water in one. The TV didn't work properly in another and the rooms need a serious update. On top of that in this day and age trying to charge for wifi seems archaic baring in mind signal was impossible to find in the hotel.

Marina Vladimirovna 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing rest for my family, thanks to the kind an elderly lady at the reception who put us in a gorgeous room on the ground floor with a fridge and a huge TV. The view from the room was absolutely beautiful. The spa here is perfect

Chris Bevan 1 year ago

Positive experience: Visited for a wedding, food was good, nice place, old and well maintained, service at the bar was slow but was busy, may have caught them out. Plenty of parking and if visiting its free, will be going back to try restuarant food, which looked great.
