Negative experience: I used to go to this gym as a home gym, now I go there casually, the smell of rubbers on gym floor is still there after months, equipment is still outdated, the receptionists used to be friendly and smiley, now all grumpy and rude.

Negative experience: Let’s tally up the pros and cons: Pros: - spa facilities - classes including reformer Pilates Cons: for £162/mo, you get the above and the below - serious health and safety standards: lockers consistently not cleaned, with dirt, gloopy fluids, broken hangers and used paper towels regularly found in lockers - showers, the water temperature never above tepid, broken soap dispensers, moldy shower heads and surfaces - worn facilities, something is always broken - extreme over crowding. unless you attend in the middle of the day, you will be fighting to get to any inch of the equipment/ gym floor, sauna and pool are also overpacked with people with no control on oversubscribing the gym Tipping point, they’re now limiting the number of towels you can use. If you want to get in a workout, shower, use the pool / sauna and have long hair and want to get clean and dry yourself, good luck!

Negative experience: Worst customer experience ever!!! Reception staffs are helpless. In Jan ,I requested to change my membership as I got a discounted scheme from my insurance. They took a changing fee payment 50£ and telling my membership fee will be lower from Feb. However, nothing has changed, i paid my regular fee. I asked reception again and again, their answer always the same said they will submit to HQ and it will be updated… last week i asked for a manager, she did not even want to talk to me and say she will sort it out and guess what I still need to pay the regular fee for March. Its just so disappointing!! Its time cancelling my membership i think. Dont choose this gym if you have other options

Positive experience: Yes the gym equipment needs updating, but they have the best gym sauna I have encountered. Lots of space and good temperature. Third Space should take note, as they still in 2025 are opening saunas that are just too small, considering how popular sauna has now become in the UK.

Negative experience: Since the beginning of 2025, the showers are always cold, the jacuzzi is constantly malfunctioning, the sauna and steam rooms are often not warm enough, and there is now a policy of only one towel (until December 2024, you could have two towels). I tried to communicate some ofthese issues to the manager, who disrespectfully answered lieing to me.

Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this gym. The equipment is not only outdated but frequently broken, and it’s evident that whoever is in charge is more focused on raising prices than on maintaining or improving the facility. It's incredibly frustrating, especially since this gym has so much potential. With some attention and care, it could be an excellent place to work out, but instead, it’s being ignored and neglected. It’s such a shame to watch it deteriorate like this. The only reason I initially joined was because of the spa area, but after the recent membership fee increase, I’ve decided to cancel my membership. It’s just not worth it anymore. Negative experience: "Take my advice—don't join this gym. Thankfully, my membership is almost over, which is the only reason I'm still here. I've already signed up for a gym across the street. The price increase feels like a slap in the face, especially considering the condition of this place. Most of the machines are rusty and needs replacing. During my workout, I even had water dripping from the ceiling onto me, forcing me to move to another spot which had the same issue. I am not the only person unsatisfied, I have spoken to a lot of people which think the same. Paying over £110 and not having hot water for months now says it all.

Negative experience: What has happened to this place? Used to be good but it doesn’t seem as if anyone cares enough to resolve any of its issues anymore. Since increasing the price the showers are cold, the pool is cold, the place is just generally dirty and falling apart. I’ve mentioned the Watt bike that doesn’t work three times now and three months later it still isn’t working. There are two water fountains as you come in that stopped working months ago and have just been left, leg machine stopped working and got taken away, a real shambles. Usually filthy in the changing rooms and you’re lucky if you don’t see at least a couple of leaks A big shame, fallen off a cliff in a year

Positive experience: Good gym however the royalty-free music is terrible and very demotivating. I feel bad for the Pilates instructors having to run a class with such boring music. Surely for the amount I pay each month they can afford licensed music...

Negative experience: Long term member of this gym. The gym is in the worse state possible, Over suscribed, people jumping in pool...using sauna and jacuzi clearly without taking showes , Cold showers since dec 2024, closures, rusty old/ broken /limited / outdated equipment, leaking ceiling, unclean gym floor and showers, ceiling dirty rusty in mens showers and changing room, not enough staff to clean at peak hours. Management nonexistent

Positive experience: been coming here for nearly a year now, and I am disappointed to say that it seems anyone can just sneak in this place. i put my phone on top of my bag in the changing room and put moisturiser on my face for a second and turned and someone had stolen it. I have seen people walk in the gats behind paying members. 110 quid a month just to get robbed.

Negative experience: Could not be a worse gym or service if they tried. Notifications of closure multiple times a week, can’t get through to customer service easily, finally got through to speak to a ama her who assured me she cancelled the contract to now find out it has not been cancelled and the general manager needs to approve it. Air con doesn’t work to such an extent condensation is dripping like waterfalls from the ceiling, also unsafe to work out in such conditions. Notifications of closure at least once a week, 15 leaks from the ceiling at any one time so many wet floor signs and buckets to try to find work out space around. Meant to be a higher class gym and it is most definitely not

Negative experience: Absolutely rubbish. 3 weeks in a row the showers are unable to produce hot water. Privacy cubical in the men’s has been broken since November. Not an issue for everyone, but for anyone with a young child this is a problem. No reason for it, a simple fix, just some effort needed from the management. Poor management culture that fails to put customers before profits.

Negative experience: Can anyone confirm the cold female showers are now fixed? We keep getting told they’re sorted and it’s false so we suffer once again - literally yesterday someone else posted here that they’re still cold! STILL cold water in the showers. It *hasn’t* been resolved! The shower by the pool and in the female changing rooms. Pleeeeease sort this. They’re tepid at best…in the heart of winter. Unfortunately constant closures without notice or notification are becoming a regular thing. See all other 1 star reviews saying the same. Please management take note - we need to work off the post Xmas mince pie flab ;)

Negative experience: This gym is constantly closed. Interior is severely outdated, falling apart, with leaks in studios and broken gym equipment. I can’t believe how much they continue to charge customers while doing nothing to address this.

Negative experience: The reformer, boxing, yoga, and aqua classes are good. However, everything else is crumbling / falling apart in this gym. Everyone needs to keep up the external pressure and get the reviews down on this gym so that they upgrade their equipment and facilities. Compared with the Moorgate and Strand VA gyms, this facility is a joke. The only reason I go is to collect my free smoothie.

Negative experience: Terrible Experience – Avoid This Gym! I’ve never even used this gym, yet they’ve caused me nothing but stress. I cancelled my appointment on time, as per their policy, and was assured my deposit would be refunded. Instead, not only did I never receive my refund, but they’ve been taking £100 monthly from my account without authorization. I’ve been trying to get in touch with someone for two months to resolve this. I’ve called, emailed, and even gone in person to cancel, but nobody has taken responsibility or helped me. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. If you’re considering this gym, think twice—they’re quick to take your money but impossible to reach when you need assistance. Currently on the hold for more than 45 minutes, isn’t this a crazy joke?!?!? Probably only legal action will solve this matter!

Negative experience: Keeps getting worse. Holes and leaks all over the gym floor. Parts of the gym/pool are consistently closed. The whole gym has been closed for the last few days with no reason or ETA for reopening. There’s a much better, cheaper, gym across the road. Just waiting for my contract to be up.

Negative experience: Not a good gym . Holes in gym floor , dirty showers , seen rats on 4 occasions complained but never got back to me . Showers dirty ( hairs everywhere) . Leaks on gym floor . Closes sometimes because no hot water or power cut but don't send out notifications to let you know . Gym weights are rusty over 15 years old .Staff laughing at me when youths chased me into gym because they tried to nick my bike with knives . Very poor gym . Highly recommend not to join . I'm stuck on a year contract don't make the same mistake. I've been using gyms up and down the UK and around the world for the last 20 years this is by far the worst of them all .. and for the money it cost is totally laughable . This is my 1st complain review I've ever done that must say it all ...

Negative experience: Been a member for 1 year, things have got considerably worse in the last 3 month. The main issue is that the gym desperately needs an upgrade to weights machines and free weights area (even after recent attempt to repair this space). Water drips from the ceiling onto the floor where the squat racks are so doesn't feel safe. The weights machines are rusty and old. When a machine breaks, it is left for weeks and then just removed and not replaced. I forgot my card recently and was told I'd be charged if I forget it again which is mad, Virgin wants to charge its members to open an electronic gate. Cleaning team in male changing rooms work hard to keep the area clean and generally I've found interacting with staff to be pleasant. There is a new fancy app but I'd have preferred the money to have been spent on not letting standards drop as low as they have.

Negative experience: Main good things are the reformer class teachers and the free smootie per week for showing up consistently. The rest is atrocious, especially compared to other Virgin Active (ie Moorgate is in the same area and price and is much better). Reformer studio is a constant sauna/water leak in the winter from the window condensation. Fix your ventilation, get some dehumidifiers and window karcher vac rather than getting the cleaners to do it with towels that don’t absorb half of it. The changing rooms and showers are a mess. Broken locks in the toilet and broken lockers. Mold and gime growing everywhere in the showers (floor/wall/pipes/ceiling). The soap dispensers are broken/ always empty and giving much less nice soap than Virgin Active in Moorgate. Massive dust around the vents, half of the hair equipment broken but left there to make it look like there are loads. First look fine but when you look a bit more nothing is Team seems to be trying to fix things when brought up to attention so I assume the lack of action comes from management who’s not willing to invest in the details. Get someone from the other Virgin Active to overhaul this one.

Negative experience: Service so terrible it’s impressive. The club is filthy and falling apart. Want to join and register your child for swim lessons? Make sure you have weeks to spare and the fortitude to send over 100 emails. Your kid got promoted up in levels (hooray) and the instructor told you his start date in the new class? Be prepared for the ego-driven admin team to override that (how dare an instructor have the gall to speak directly to parents!!!), communicate nothing to you, and result in a missed lesson. Instructor is unwell and they don’t have a substitute instructor? Definitely don’t expect them to notify you. Want a refund for the cancelled class? Again be ready to spend weeks chasing. If you’re lucky maybe it gets resolved with 50 instead of 100 emails. The admin team for families and swim care more about hierarchy than competency. They block competent staff (like the awesome swim instructor) from effectively managing lessons and comms, leaving instead a comms void, confusion, missed lessons, and an accrual of unissued refunds. Think raising a complaint to the GM and customer service managers will be met with any effort at improvement? Ha! They’ll ignore you for ages and then just give you a customer service hotline number to call. Slobber and smeared grubby handprints live all over the glass viewing area overlooking the pool for weeks/months. The only time I’ve seen it clean is when I’ve requested someone to clean it. Changing room floors covered in hair and dirt. Toilet seats literally falling off. No toilet tissue is the norm. Oh, and broken wood with sharp nails can be picked as toys up by small humans.

Negative experience: Bit cheeky to be honest - desperately in need of new cable machines, benches and cardio equipment at the very least. It’s like stepping into the nineties - rust, and thick layers of dust on the fire alarms. Come on people, sort it out! You’re meant to be better than the local leisure centre and I’m struggling to see how you are. Other Virgins, though none of them Third Space, do much better. Perhaps central office needs to pop some pennies in the metre and give you some improvements…

Negative experience: Nice club when you use it, but I’ve been trying to call multiple time over the last 2 months to cancel my membership due to moving country and no one ever pick up the phone, result I’m still paying 88£ a month for a membership I physically can’t cancel.

Negative experience: Beware - they charge everyone different rates. The gym is packed. The machines are dirty and often broken. The pool is crowded and over chlorinated. The whole place needs a renovation - they are doing a minor one now with half the space closed down but no price rebate for half the service. Mgmt changes often.

Negative experience: Very bad! Used to be good! Now the ceiling is leaking liquid onto the floor and gym equipment, there are buckets everywhere. Sauna is always in repair. Equipment in the gym is poor (Broken) and needs upgrading! Floor has dips in them, nearly tripped over a million times. Boxing bag is never there, always taken down as it is broken!! Not worth the money being spent on it!

Fantastic experience: A great Virgin gym. Large cardio gym, well equipped weights room, free group exercise classes, 25m pool and spa with steam and sauna rooms. Also a café with healthy options. Open late and at weekends.

Negative experience: The gym closes all the time for maintenance yet nothing is ever fixed. The gym is full of broken equipment, broken showers (only cold water in half of the cabins for weeks now), broken toilet doors and a bunch of very unmotivated staff. Not sure what happened with this gym but it’s not looked after since at least spring 2024 which is ironic because that’s when they raised the monthly pass price by approximately 50% it’s now also super crowded and mostly dirty-the gym floor during the 6:45am class is already gross (gym opens at 6:30) so it’s clear that they don’t mop/vacuum it every evening. You aren’t compensated for when they randomly close the gym (or half of it) and have to pay for your wristband at Moorgate if you want to use that gym instead. I was told by the customer service agent that the gym wasn’t closed long enough for me to be compensated (she couldn’t say what long enough is to her) and Moorgate is only walking distance from Angel (yeah 25mins) so regardless of me living in the other direction, I should just go there. Nothing is nice about this gym anymore sadly.

Negative experience: The teaching staff here are brilliant but the facilities recently have been awful. The floor of the Pilates room is coated in hair, the changing rooms too, as well as shampoo and conditioner all over the walls. Staff just say they’re “aware” with no suggestion that they’ll be fixing it. The hydro pool has also not worked for weeks now leading to staff wandering round the pool area in filthy trainers.

Negative experience: I used to be a member, and I cancelled it when I see the clear neglect of the gym . Whilst the commercial gym have upgraded and revamped their equipments (still wouldn't catch mei n one) virgin has had the same equipment and design for yeaaaaaaaars. It's so visible to see. Only plus is the spa and pool but even that has become quite toxic with loud people and inconsiderate morons. Moved to a better gym that's worth the money you.pay

Negative experience: Can’t give higher than one star because of the state of the gym floor. £80 a month and air conditioning leaking everywhere, rusty broken equipment, safety tape all over the floor because of sagging. Some of the benches by the dumbbells lean because the floor has so many holes in it. It’s a mess. Needs renovating asap. Pool and sauna area is really good.

Fantastic experience: I visit this branch quite frequently for the spa and pool as a friend’s guest. The area is very clean, spacious enough so it’s not too busy at any one time, and you can dip in and out of the pool, use the sauna or the steam room. I love that they have two cold water showers, with one being almost icy. The changing room and shower areas are cleaned regularly by attentive staff.

Fantastic experience: I recently joined the club and it has one of the best pools in central London. The installations are super clean and the staff is friendly and nice. Jerome Smith was super helpful all the way though the process and guide me according to my targets. I also did my fitness assessment with George who was also fantastic!

Negative experience: If you are a visitor and want a gym for 1 month, be prepared Virgin will charge you for 2 months min. Even if you sign up and immediately cancel on the same day, you still will be charged for 2 months.

Negative experience: Would not recommend. Equipment always broken and can take over a month to be repaired. Only plus is the spa area. I would recommend going to other gyms in the area if you can. If you can do without the pool go to pure gym around the corner. I complained on app but no one gets back to you.

Positive experience: Exorbitantly expensive and appears to be poorly run regarding adequate class cover. The sauna, steam room and jacuzzi make it a worthwhile post-workout environment and for recuperation but the actual gym floor is average at best

Negative experience: Should be zero stars. I have complained to staff multiple times about how there is no segregation in the changing room for children/families. Children just wander around the men's changing room and, surprise, there are also naked men in there. The staff say there's a segregated area but there isn't. A man was changing a child's NAPPY on the bench in front of the lockers today. Disgusting. Today when I tried to speak to management, the young man at the desk was shockingly hostile towards me. Laughed at me, called me a liar, belittled me because I don't have children and while refusing to get the manager, tried to provoke me into a fight by repeatedly saying "What are you gonna do about it?". This went on for over 30 minutes. I cancelled my membership after he repeatedly suggested that I just find a new gym. Threatened to call the police on me until I pointed out that their own cctv would clear me of whatever he'd accuse me of. Genuinely shocked at this chap's character. Doesn't belong in a gym. APPALLING attitudes from all of the staff and they've clearly oversold the membership as well. Not enough equipment for the amount of members. Massively overpriced for an average at best gym floor and horrific attitudes from uninterested staff.

Negative experience: I’m very disappointed with all the very apparent cost cuttings with the amateur trainers and particularly in reformer at Islington. The most surprising is the ridiculous change in music as Virgin is not paying for copyright now, the core of spinning class or cardio is to have the right music and tempo. I hope this one is addressed sooner than later. No wonder Virgin forced everyone into 12 months contracts as everyone will leave. The quality is low in every aspect of the gym which seems to be the chosen direction with the management.

Negative experience: UPDATE - just keeps getting worse, was just about to buy some grip socks for a class and for some reason TWO attendants had to address ONE customer before deciding to be helpful to me. Just unacceptable really. Really love this gym but last two visits they've been closing at 9:45pm, I get that people who work there want to leave on time, and it makes sense for the Spa facilities to close at 9:45pm, but don't advertise that the gym is open and then ask me to get off the equipment because you're closed (this was 9:45pm).

Negative experience: I am giving 1 star as I really think the gym equipment needs an update. I only recently changed from 'the gym' I was paying much less and the equipment is so much better and dated. It's really disappointing to be paying over £100 for old rusty equipment. The space is not being used well and should have more equipment. I mainly joined this gym as its close to my house and has a spa. The spa is quite good. Staff are really friendly. I really hope they update the gym as I'm not the only one who has spoken about this.

Negative experience: I joined the gym last year and thought it was great and visited often. Unfortunately, in 2024, it definitely feels over subscribed and weekday evenings are extremely busy. Floor space is frequently full and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a free treadmill. While waiting for a treadmill I've found many of the alternative machines are broken or not working including 2 of the watt bikes and the stair master. I enjoy my experience less and less at the moment and given the membership fee I am considering switching to somewhere else which is a real shame.

Negative experience: The facilities are not good. Very dated and no staff on gym floor to help. Not enough treadmills for the number of guests. And they don’t let you pick your speed straightaway - it starts at 1km/hr and increases in increments of 0.1km/hr until you get to the desired speed! So clunky and the machine looks decades old. Expected more from somewhere charging c.£150 per month. Classes are also scheduled on the gym floor so there’s a lot of shouting etc when you’re trying to do a personal workout which is not great. Steam room/sauna and spa facilities are ok, but overall the gym isn’t worth the money.

Positive experience: The machines in the gym are normally occupied, it is overcrowded most of the pick times, so if you limited to pick times you will have problems! Might be a good idea to add more machines of the same kinds. Tumble dryer, and some hair dryers is been a month taking a rest (Broken). Classes are almost waste of time, only a few instructors are professional by their practice. I use to go to Chiswick park and over there instructors were a way better. Otherwise it is a decent gym and swimming pool.

Negative experience: Very poor customer service - and it feels like being robbed. I paid for 2 PT sessions which I never got. I have been sending emails to try to arrange them, and while they initially said they would put me in contact with one of their trainers, they never did and then they stopped replying to my emails.

Fantastic experience: I've been going to this gym for about 4 months and I think it is one of the best in London. The spa area is decent for London (although it would be nice if the swan necks regularly worked), the swimming pool is a decent width for London, and I rarely have to wait to use gym equipment. It would be nice if they had one or two more benches for weights because that is the only part regularly in use. I don't use classes but they seem pretty varied. It's on the pricier side but you get what you pay for etc.

Negative experience: Standards of this club are low! Careless and rude lifeguard keeping the fire door to the changing rooms constantly open. Spa area is windy and very often out of service. Steam rooms are smelly and the new reformer Pilates beds are quite unsafe, wobbly and did pull a lot of my hair off. Club often runs down on towels. Do not recommend

Negative experience: This gym is a hotspot for thieves. I had been a victim, my beats were taking as I was changing and locked in another locker. My phone would connect to the beats every I entered the changing rooms but staff were not able to open any lockers due to privacy ect. There had been numerous occasions when passing the main desk where I had witnessed multiple people complain that their items have been stolen. There isn't much that the gym had done to tackle this as they say that we are responsible for our own belongings which is also true however if it is a targeted attack with multiple complaints about a thief then surely they should do something about it no?

Positive experience: I recently joined and I’m really happy with the gym. You get to do classes, the gym is a decent size and I never really saw it get fully fully packed, the staff are friendly, there’s a sauna and two pools…so overall it’s great! The only thing I would say and hopefully virgin takes the feedback and works on it, is that hygiene could be improved. There’s never shampoo in the women’s bathroom and the floor could be cleaned better. Maybe there could be a policy implemented that requires everyone to wear flip flops in the changing rooms. I find it really disgusting when I see other ladies walk around barefoot.

Fantastic experience: First of all I would like to say staff member are very welcoming especially Jamie. The Jacuzzi is spacious, bring the kids along as this branch is Family friendly. Swimming pool is also big. The Ladies Changing room is spacious; very clean they have a swim wear dryer in the changing room too which came in very handy!! There is a sauna room and a steam room . They have a gym , vending machines , water fountains located all around. Everything is so easy to find and staff are always around so you can ask questions. I will definitely be recommending this branch in Islington to all my friends!

Negative experience: Definitely Definitely overhyped! Zero hygiene, the ladies bathroom smells horrid, broken pipes and showers. The floors are icky and yellow that is dead skin and an industrial floor cleaning machine will need to be used! Sadly I have worked at a gym before so I get what is expected! Not this! My original gym that i use to attend was perfect unfortunately I had moved and thought virgin active has to be good! No! Once you sign up you will not hear from anyone unless they are chasing for money (I stopped my direct debt only way to get someone to communicate with you). You are just a number in sales :) I suffer from vertigo so I am not allowed to be around equipment! I take time off from work but am expected letter from doctors from my gym, which I will pay for, but a prescription with my name address dob is not enough proof very heavy meds btw. Please just go somewhere else and trial before signing up or be aware or your cooling off periods they will not mention this to you :) Im so disappointed in the lack of communication and service. Im shocked with how they get away with their audits. Glad I am moving to cancel my membership.

Negative experience: The rating I have given is based on the value for the services provided. The staff and the classes are really good but the equipment lets the whole gym down. I was paying £110 for broken machines, old treadmills, broken scales in the mens changing room, constant problems with the sauna and steam room. It’s a lot considering other gyms that are a fraction of the price offer 24hr access. I cancelled my membership at PureGym so I could join Virgin and honestly PureGym have better quality machines. The staff are the best part about virgin but in cost of living crisis everyone is looking to get value for their money. I would have stayed if the things I mentioned were right.

Negative experience: "Freeze fees" left a sour taste in my mouth. Pausing your membership is a handy feature, but it's hard to understand the justification for continuing to be charged (a reduced rate) when you no longer have access to the gym.

Positive experience: Screaming kids each time I’ve been - I wasn’t notified it was kid friendly. Own lock needed for locker - was not notified, and none are available there Spa area - in repair, then broken, now working, but timed and you have to sit for ages waiting for something to come on. Not conducive to relaxing. Pool great and usually empty except for the odd child. Layout is not ideal, locker rooms do not attach to wet area, so you have to go through the main hallway to the wet area meaning the floor is always wet for gym goers. I found the staff on the help desk usually hostile and unwilling. Do yourself a favour and go to the Moorgate branch instead. Regret leaving 1Rebel for this.

Negative experience: If you like to be in your own zone and get a good workout in on the gym floor, this is not the place for you. The main problem with the Islington branch is the grid downstairs. It is an open space that takes up most of the gym floor area and if you don’t want to do a strength and conditioning class or a lift club, you are squashed in to a tiny little space around the outside. Not to mention you are forced to hear the loud shouting of the instructors whilst just trying to have a simple weight session. One would argue go to the gym early in the morning it’s quieter, no these classes are scheduled at all hours, from 6:45am to 6:30pm. It seems that Virgin Active really do prioritise the needs of classes over members who want to do their own workout. It’s like living in a flat when the neighbour is using a drill it raises your stress level not bring it down.

Negative experience: Re-joined after pandemic mainly for classes, used the gym the other day and it is depressing, the lighting, no air conditioning on, the lifting machines are at least 10 years old, rusty, it's embarrassing for the membership price. Negative experience: My home gym is Canary Wharf so I’m used to a very high standard, so that may be why I was thoroughly disappointed. The “spa” just felt like a huge bathtub considering the jets were on timers that only lasted about 10 seconds with huge gaps in between. It was also insanely dirty as you could feel gravel and grit beneath your feet and bottom when you sat down or walked — same for the main pool.

Negative experience: ABSOLOUTLEY APPALLING customer service from virgin active , they refused to cancel my membership after millions of calls continued to tell me that i still needed to pay more. I'm genuinely so disappointed is this how they're treating financially struggling members? By not letting them cancel. Find another gym/spa save your time and your money! Spa is always randomly closing / has issues , and they wont compensate you for it either! Most of the place is dirty and grubby. The gym classes usually means theres barely any place for normal gym go-ers to workout (referring to the lift club).

Fantastic experience: Great Place but you cannot turn off the changing room lights because members are delayed leaving....its a health and safety risk... flash by all means and make announcements but turning off the lights is a big No No... there maybe good reason why people are delayed especially older members who maybe unwell. You can neither lock people in the building or force them to sign their name because they are delayed. This is not acceptable, responsible or Professional behaviour (There should be a 10 - 15min grace period anyway, it's the nature of working with 'pepole' ). If you want people out on time 1 make announcements 2 send staff to round up members....make them aware they have 30/15/10/5mins to leave...MAKE ANNOUNCEMENTS 3 turn off the equipment and open sauna and steam room doors politely letting members know the need to leave the area shut the showers off 15mins before closing if you must but do not turn off the lights or lock people in. Both breach regulations and compromise customer safety. Very disappointing I have been an avid member for many years and I have never ever experienced anything like this before. it is poor practice and should be stopped immediately for the safety and wellbeing of all. Positive experience: I really like this gym, plenty of kit, 25m pool, and the spa is amazing. Only gripe I just wish you didn’t have to walk across the corridor to get to the pool.

Positive experience: Good gym with lovely classes and amazing pool. Might do well with a little cosmetic upgrades, introducing crèche and increasing the difficulty level of classes.

Positive experience: Nice and clean spa area with pool, sauna, steam room and hot pool but unfortunately i found it too much chlorine gas smell for my eyes and breath in the hot pool area

Negative experience: 3 weeks since signing - still waiting for them to sort everything out so I can get it via vitality. Spend time waiting to be let in because they don’t use common sense to let paying members in without checking with sales associates

Negative experience: Great range of classes on offer with some excellent instructors, but overall it’s a rather tired gym in bad need of renovation. It’s packed with screaming children all weekend, parents let them run and scream all over. Worst of all is the lack of soundproofing in the yoga studio - every class is combined with the noise of the adjacent zumba, aerobics, spinning, or pilates class and often too the aforementioned screaming children. Even worse that the main studio door is constantly left open during classes emitting even more noise. Edit: no update as promised, standard for Virgin to promise something and not deliver!

Negative experience: It used to be a good gym but now always packed. gym floor is full and on top of that there are classes that take the bench press area spa is shambles always something not working and no towels is starting to be a regular thing

Fantastic experience: TIA - PT Iv recently moved over to Angel virgin gym from crouch end. Tia crosses the T’sand dots the i’s I had a knee injury Feb 2022 (motor bike crash )- she has worked with me and supported & pushed me through out my personal training sessions. She brought be in a knee brace to train to support me. Taught me how to correctly execute weighted movements. She has worked around my atrocious availability to fit session in that work for me! She has help me develop personal goals & achievement. FLEXIBLE!! CARING!! KNOWLEDGEABLE!! PATIENT!!

Negative experience: I have been a member of this gym for about 7 years. The gym is great and I really like the facilities but I have been screwed over by £450 by a PT agreement which has written, in very small print, that you have to cancel your direct debit before the 17th of the month otherwise they'll continue to charge you. Sure, my bad for not remembering that but: 1. Nobody sent me the agreement via email after I signed it; and 2. Nobody told me on the spot when I signed that this was going to be the case. I feel this is done to trick people and it's very low for Virgin, which is supposed to be a premium gym (membership fee is over £100/month). Be wary of the tricks!

Positive experience: So I was a member previously, just joined again. First visit there yesterday and there was no hot water in the whole building so the showers were cold and heat in the steam room was below 30 degrees because of said water problem Today I recieve a message telling me to bring my own towel.. not a very good start is it.

Positive experience: Compared to some other virgin gyms this one has friendly staff and a decent pool and spa area. The biggest issue I have is how for much of the day all but one ( excessively narrow) lane of the pool is reserved for lessons or children , which is a bit of a rip off @ c. £100 per month.

Negative experience: If you are new to London and are looking for an overpriced gym, with poor customer service, broken equipments and unpredictable closures of key areas (in particular swimming pools), Virgin Active is the right place for you. I’ve tried and couldn’t be more unsatisfied.

Fantastic experience: 3min walk from Angel Station on the Northern LINE. Hydro pool never fails .Lots of Gym/ Exercises Classes to choose from .Definitely worth joining

Negative experience: Virgin in general gone down hill. Steam broken no notice outside.sauna not hot and packed with loud swearing men. All tge Virgin gyms I visit seem to be on this downhill direction with cuts to classes, hours,cleanliness and classes.Come on Virgin, without members you won't exist. Gyms with rates at half the price have twice the number of classes. So many members talking about leaving or unhappy. Complaints seem to fall on deaf ears and nothing changes.

We have chased up with the Operations Management department but they have confirmed there has been no closures of the steam room or sauna, everything has been fully operational. Regarding classes, we do monitor class usage and any amendments to the timetable would be considered after reviewing this. We are always seeking feedback from members and will continue to adjust on feedback moving forward.
