Many users appreciate the cleanliness of the gym and its pool facilities, with particular praise for the swimming pool and its suitability for children's lessons. Everlast Gyms - Tunstall: Opinions
Positive experience: Hi, The men's locker room and toilet needs fixing Otherwise it's not too bad But to be fair all gym needs an renovation as paint failing from the sealing in few places, walls needs repainting and new lights fitting then it would be a great gym. Staff it's pretty and friendly I mean pretty friendly Yeah it needs a refresh that's for sure
Fantastic experience: Great staff, very helpful and clean. The pool and steam room is amazing.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out. Always clean
Fantastic experience: My children enrolled to the swimming lessons in this gym. The pool facilities and the swimming instructor are both great.
Fantastic experience: Been a member for many years great gym
Positive experience: I recently returned back to this gym, as I was once a member when it was DW. I cancelled back then due to cost. I was encouraged to return to what is now an Everlast gym, as they are part of a scheme (GymFlex) which my employer signs up to where I pay less per month for membership. I started using the pool only to get back into fitness and didn't quite have the courage to step into the gym. The staff were always encouraging which spurred me on to get into it. The gym had had a few move arounds recently, but I can see how they have laid it out promotes convenience (leg sections and arm sections), and cardio machines mainly in one area, but some spread out which seems to lend itself for gym goers who want to develop their own HIIT training between resistance training and cardio. You can tell they have put thought into it. I do enjoy the pool too, although like another reviewer said, there are often children in the pool. It is worth mentioning, that this seems to be more for organised private lessons, as opposed to kids aimlessly splashing around. They tend to have their own lane which they keep to. When it was part of DW sports, there were jacuzzis, but since Everlast took over, they seem to be boarded up. This is a shame because I find often small groups of people just come to the pool for a cool down dip, rather than a fitness swim, which means they take up valuable wall or step space when you are trying to swim laps. If the Jacuzzis worked, or if they just had treated water in, this would prevent any frustration for the swimmers. Ladies changing room has plenty of lockers (bring your own combination lock for these) and there are padded benches to sit on. There are mirrors and free hairdriers to use. A review mentioned showers could use upgrading, but to be fair, warm water comes out and I can clean myself and wash my hair. It might be dated, but it's still kept clean. The downside to the changing facilities is there are only 2 changing cubicles. I'm the type of person more comfortable with changing in the privacy of a cubicle and so wish there were more. Saying that, I have never waited long for one, but I expect if you time it wrong at a busy time, then you might end up waiting a while. Generally, I'm really pleased to be back in a gym and I don't feel intimidated when I go into the gym area. I think half of the battle is the confidence to walk in, and I know the staff are passionate about fitness and would always be willing to help.
Positive experience: I only go to use the swimming pool at the moment. The gym environment isn't my cup of tea. The equipment looks in good condition and the classes they offer are really good and everywhere is lovely and clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There's loads of parking but it's only free for three hours so you need to keep an eye on the time. The only negative I can find is they allow kids!!.. I've got nothing against kids but I want to go and not worry about kids splashing around. Granted they're only allowed in at certain times but I wish I'd read it wasn't adults only before signing up for 12 months. Being a shift worker I have to work around my shifts and try to fit in swimming when I can, it always just seems to be when the kids are in. I'd still recommend the gym.
Fantastic experience: Excellent
Fantastic experience: Great gym been here for a number of years now always a good reception.
Positive experience: Have been a member for 3 years. I use the pool for aqua aerobics and swimming. Over the last year loads of classes cancelled and instructors have had classes dropped so have left. Showers in a bad way and sauna not working properly. New management doesn’t seem interested in listening to clients. Lots of the older clients finished because of classes being cancelled. Certain staff more interested in talking and being on their phones.
Negative experience: If you give them your data they will constantly call and harass you despite asking them to remove your data on several occasions.
Fantastic experience: This is a really good gym and I have been going for 2 years now and it helped massively with my mental health
Negative experience: Been a member of this gym for several years and it is just going down the pan. Absolutely zero investment to repair broken machines and equipment. There is only so many times gym members want to hear "we are on a list for refurb". Took close to 2 years to get the cycle bikes to be looked at and still several are not in proper working order. We are now told classes may to be cancelled due to falling attendance - Head Office decision . It is August! peak holiday time, people are on holiday and looking after kids who are not at school. Numbers will rise again from September. The turnover of staff is an indication of the how the facility is run, as instructors stay a few months and then move on. The place is going down the pan and perhaps it is time to look for another gym locally. It is a shame because there are some members of staff who work hard. Note to Head Office: in the words of Joey Swoll "you need to do better!"
Positive experience: Staff are friendly, also the customers are friendly too. Don't get that at some gyms. Doesn't get too busy and overall happy to of joined.
Negative experience: In desperate need of a refurbishment, the gym equipment needs updating, the air conditioning is never switched on or it's broken? Not much different to the steam room as that's never working right, pool side looks really fantastic with hazard tape and warning signs up majority of the time due to the decking falling apart. The ratio of sun loungers to people who actually use the gym is also totally off, one lounger to service the whole gym? Friendly members of staff but the company need to spend some money on bringing it up to a consistant standard
Negative experience: Loved this gym as DW. Following Everlast take over classes stayed the same. Then classes were cut at Christmas ....The previous management had listened to clients and iniated classes for all ages and abilities .... I left the gym in January...full classes I attended were taken off e.g aerobics / stickercise / dance ...great for both mental and physical health. Keep getting phone calls to go back after I've asked them not to ring even phoned an instructor who had her classes cancelled if she wanted to join
Negative experience: I was a member when this was DW and found this a good gym. Now it's near impossible to get a good workout as there seems to be less equipment, its also extremely expensive. I've emailed to cancel which I have had no reply. Staff don't seem to engage with customers which is very disappointing.
Negative experience: No air con for best part of 4 months (still not fixed mid June at the moment) so hot and smells. Almost always crowded
Fantastic experience: I have recently rejoined for health purposes and can only swim due to disability. The pool is perfect for me. I choose to go at times when it's quiet and do a few lengths. Its a nice clean place and the staff are friendly
Negative experience: Advertising 1£ joining, gym is busy 24 hours, young people in group of 5 sitting on the machines they have 0 manners that it’s public gym, worst part is machines are from 80s and 2/5 are broken and out of service, 30£ per month absolutely day robbery. I wish I could leave 0 star. Done waist your money and be in queue for using the machines. There is a lad shouting like someone stabbing him when he is training Brilliant.
Negative experience: Steam room hasn't been working properly for 3 months now. Equipment is rusty, cable machines are always swarming with kids so you can't even get a good workout in. Half the showers in the male section either don't have hot water or are missing the shower head. Soap dispensers are either broken or empty. Toilets always wet and missing toilet paper. Swimming pool is always full of kids. At this point they don't even care anymore. Charging 30 quid... What a joke of a gym.
Negative experience: No college benefits went with a freind charged me £10 for a workout and didn’t do it lots of machines are broken it’s a joke if your looki For a gym in the area go energy fitness miles better
Negative experience: I'm a self employed builder, who gets paid cash. However at this gym you can't pay cash on anything. So not only do you get discriminated for using cash the showers and sauna was absolutely filthy. It's companies like this that are driving the world into the ground.
Fantastic experience: It's a great gym and swimming pool
Positive experience: Definitely needs money putting into the place for refurbishment and equipment
Fantastic experience: Lovely fresh gym with spa
Negative experience: I had a truly terrible experience at Everlast Tunstall. The equipment is outdated and in poor condition. The weight machines were rusty and some of them didn't work at all. There were no mirrors, which is completely unacceptable in a gym. The music was terrible and way too loud, making it nearly impossible to focus on my workout. The staff was unhelpful and unfriendly. They seemed completely disinterested in helping me get started and didn't answer any of my questions. The gym was also incredibly crowded, making it difficult to find any space to work out. To make matters worse, the changing rooms were filthy. There were dirty towels and clothes strewn about and the floors were sticky. The showers were also dirty and smelled terrible. Overall, I would not recommend Everlast Tunstall to anyone. It's a complete waste of money and time. Save yourself the trouble and find a better gym.
Positive experience: Good gym plenty of equipment just a little far for me
Fantastic experience: Love it
Negative experience: Attended a class after the new year & Xmas period, a male employee had a quick chat with the trainer of the class then stood at the back of the class for 10-15 mins, then another male employee came chatting to him both standing there watching & chatting. Really unprofessional & could be intimidating especially to females. Even the trainer at the end apologised if it made anyone feel uncomfortable, which she shouldn’t have to do, & said she didn’t know why they were there
Fantastic experience: Number 1 in stoke
Fantastic experience: Great gym, staff and classes.
Negative experience: 1st DAY REJOINED MEMBER NO SOAP IN ANY DESPENSERS ,EMPTY BOTTLES OVER SHOWER FLOORS ,obviousely not been touched since yesterday , was there 2.5 hours so all males using the pool hadnt showered properly .spoke to reception female, on leaving , we short staffed .!! to fill soap despencers takes 10mins not asking for spring clean , male member was on at 12.30 when i entered . sad i visited 4xs on a day pass prior to joining and was impressed , joined n get this first day . please dont let me down again i left DW over filth, no toilet paper or soap . i will with draw membership again if find no change .pleasent gang but hygine is PRIORITY .TONY
Negative experience: WARNING ⚠️ Expensive, and you limited usage ! Steam room is dirty . Or out of order most of the times Tanning room not working more than one year now . WARNING ‼️ CAR PARK ONLY FOR 3 hours. You will receive fine after . Joke !!! Facility usage limited for 3 hours, because of this !
Negative experience: Had a horrible experience at that everlast gym Tunstall, its harder to get out of that GYM MEMBERSHIP THAN TO GET A DIVORCE. Poor maintenance of machines Everything is always broke and its taken a year to fix, showers broken nearly 2 months ago, complaint many times same reply from all staff that we have asked for repair but that never happens, lockers broken and the weight haven’t been updated in years. Finally I joined M Club gym, no point asking them for same issue again and again.
Negative experience: Expensive gym and they have contract...
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place to work out..staff always on hand if you need advice
Negative experience: My child attends swimming lessons with a most fantastic company: Waterstars. She has been attending for 2 years and I would not change the company for anything. However tonight we were told that we ( parents/guardians) could not watch/ observe our child at the poolside. We can accompany them to the pool but have to leave them there without parent or guardian. I was stunned that they - Everlast- could think this is best practice in this day and age. I tried to talk to management tonight after the lesson and was treated incredibly rudely a staff member who said I could talk to him regarding this matter. Is he management? His told me to to take a photograph of their policy and move out of the way to let’ members’ walk through. Really professional Everlast. We are changing venues. Marie.
Negative experience: I started attending this gym when it was under another name (DW) and thought that the facilities were good. However, as others have said, the 2 jacuzzis are not working and haven't been for about a year. The pool often smells of sewage, although the changing room is clean. They do not inform customers if they miss a payment, which can lead to large debts building up without your knowledge. This is what happened to me. It seems like they intentionally do not inform clients of debts in order to rope them into extending their contracts and extracting more money.
Positive experience: Large gym let down by lack of investment in equipment .. clean.. gym area needs patrolling as way to many inconsiderate people leaving work stations loaded up after useing them .. reasonable subscription.
Positive experience: Good selection of equipment and open from 6:00 - 22:00 most days
Negative experience: Generally good gym, need to have more classes available and also should have a minimum age rating as can get full of kids. Also don’t think it’s fair the women’s that the women’s changing room / shower block is so superior to the men’s when there’s probably way more men that attend.
Fantastic experience: Girl on Reception very polite and friendly also very helpful. Only been the once so far, but have joined just for swimming, as my physiotherapist when I mentioned about my daughter and I going said it will help keep my muscles going, that it will help with me having this fibromyalgia. Must admit I felt like a jelly baby in there my legs felt weird, but I am determined to keep fighting
Fantastic experience: I love the swimming pool. It's nice and warm water, not too many people , but changing room could be a bit warmer.
Positive experience: It takes months to get faulty apparatus repaired. No follow-up after initial start date on use of equipment.
Negative experience: Poor maintenance of machines and not enough staff and music too loud and bad choice RAP ,volume fully on !!! After 12 years ive just cancelled contract
Positive experience: This gym is ok. Machines take too long to get fixed. A large gym but very few machines considering the size of the place. They have dropped the age you can join to 14 and it is full of kids who do not know how to train or any gym etiquette. Weights left on machines or worse the floor. Sit chatting on phones blocking a machine for ages. Staff are brilliant but let down by the issues I have outlined above. I will be leaving.
Negative experience: Equipment ok but too busy and very expensive . A lot nearby as good and a lot cheaper.
Negative experience: Half of the cardio machines don’t work and the weight haven’t been updated in years.
Fantastic experience: Just use the aqua 4 times a week brilliant
Negative experience: Its ok, the gym is well behind the times. Its in desperate need of a revamp. A few things that are out of use and have been for some time now. Its just ok.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in the area, decent atmosphere and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Excellent value good quality gym. Staff lovely and very friendly
Fantastic experience: Love this place so clean, my beat place to go to relax and chill when I need to.
Fantastic experience: Just joined beautiful place, clean good monthly charge and children can go to swim at certain times important to me
Positive experience: It's okay, it's due for a few well needed upgrades to the facility. Some rooms such as the changing rooms need more maintenance
Fantastic experience: I love the swimming pool at this gym and it's never over crowded. I'm not really into lifting weights or running on a treadmill so I try to go swimming 3 times a week. It's just a lovely atmosphere and so clean would recommend to anyone that loves swimming.
Fantastic experience: I am giving a 5 soley for the gym class instructors, the person on reception isn't very helpful and not welcoming. Also the facilities over the last year have dipped standards but you won't find better classes around!
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff great gym
Fantastic experience: Staff very helpful
Positive experience: Good choice of equipment however no abdominal crunchers or waist machines (jubilee 2 & Mclub both have these great machines, not even a roller crunch trainer which are very cheap to purchase) all other equipment is spot on. Pool is lovely and steam room is lush, no jacuzzis anymore just empty baths (obviously too costly too run and maintain which is a shame). Changing rooms are spacious and very clean. Staff are lovely and helpful. Great carpark with 3 free hours plus you can go shopping after as shops opposite Please get some abdo training equipment for us pregnant looking people
Fantastic experience: Love it
Fantastic experience: We have just started children's swimming lessons here with swimwithstyle and they are Brill. Nice warm pool, changing rooms are great with hairdriers. Also a family room in the middle of the 2 changing rooms.
Negative experience: Everything is always broke its taken a year to fix steam room 6ish months to fix the remaining jacuzzi not to mention the one that's been broke nearly 2 years oh and broke showers lockers and gym equipment is guaranteed
Negative experience: Currently, I would not recommend joining! This is a great location and the building layout is spot on. Above all, the staff are fantastic, despite having to put up with unnecessary challenges. The Gym: Hardly any cardio equipment works (treadmills and cross-trainers especially) in fact all cross trainers are switched off due to water damaged electrics. No time scale for when this will be corrected. The result of this is that all members are making the best of the remaining non - cardio equipment meaning you can't get on anything. The Pool: Both Jacuzzi's have been out of action for some time which means the members which want to sit and chat after a workout are now sitting in the pool! At best during the busy after work period, only 3 -4 people are able to swim lengths without stopping or meandering around others. Very frustrating. In addition, most nights of the week there are children's swimming classes until 6pm which fully uses up a swim lane. Hopefully senior management / Head Office will see this and do something about it quickly. It is unfair on members paying full price. Once again, the attitude of the staff is great. All very professional, cheery and willing to take the time to help everyone as best they can.
Fantastic experience: I went here on sunday as a guest and went swimming , the pool is lovely, i will definately be joining, everyone was so friendly ,
Negative experience: lots of equipment broken, out of service, most looks very tired, rusting not very clean at all
Positive experience: Ok gym
Positive experience: Good range of classes and facilities. Very friendly team of instructors and reception staff. Would benefit from more funds from hq to address a couple of maintenance issues, such as getting the jacuzzis fixed. Otherwise glad I joined!
Negative experience: I wouldn't recommend it to you at all. The steaming room was not working for about 3 months. They had a lot of customer's complaints thats how they ended up fixing the steaming room after 3 months. They have 2 jacuzzi 1 has not been working since ages and now the the other one is not been working for about a month, even though the staff told me "it will be fixed next week" even though it has been a month and no fixed yet. The process of their membership contract id really unprofessional.
Positive experience: This gym was great when it first opened, but nothing has been upgraded since. Really lovely staff.
Fantastic experience: Good gym
Positive experience: Not the biggest or best equipped Everlast but it's clean and normally quiet. Staff are always friendly & helpful. Parking isn't great as it's limited to 3 hours which means no time for a long session + swim on the same day
Negative experience: I feel that 3 stars is slightly generous 2.5 stars would be fair. The gym equipment is mostly old stuff from when it opened over 15 years ago. The classes are decent and have large dedicated rooms. There is no rig or even a basic proper pull ups bar. Its clean (ish) plenty of lockers but bring your own padlock (they don't inform you of this when you join). The cancellation policy is horrendous (3 months notice) its £6 to take a child swimming and should be cheaper for members. I literally joined here for the pool. It wouldn't take much to make this a decent gym if they spent a relatively small amount to get with modern fitness requirements a decent rig/pull ups bar would go a long way considering the popularity of crossfit and functional fitness in general.
Fantastic experience: Great gym and staff
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Great atmosphere
Negative experience: Since it has been taken over by Everlast it’s turned into waterworld. Swimming pool full of kids splashing about while parent sit on the side chatting away. It’s a gym not a water park. Serious gym goers will not put up with it & will leave. Those that still work there do their best but hands tied.
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout
Fantastic experience: I am so glad to be back in the gym and swimming pool, I've missed it so much and looking forward to the classes again. Keep up the good work guys your doing amazing xxxx
