Our comment from FitFit UK about Bishop Burton College:

Bishop Burton College, located in Beverley, United Kingdom, offers a range of educational courses, particularly in the agricultural and equine fields. Many students appreciate the college for its beautiful campus, friendly staff, and excellent sports facilities. The college also provides a variety of vocational-based studies alongside its popular arts and design programs.

Key Highlights:

  • Friendly and helpful staff dedicated to supporting student learning.
  • Impressive facilities suitable for a wide array of events, including equestrian and agricultural activities.
  • Diverse courses available that cater to different interests and career paths.
  • Students have reported memorable experiences and personal growth during their time at the college.

However, there have been some concerns raised by students regarding course availability, with a few courses being canceled unexpectedly and a perceived lack of support for those with learning difficulties. Additionally, some users have pointed out that food prices can be high and there may be inconsistencies in the quality of teaching across different subjects.

Despite these issues, many find that the camaraderie and support available create a welcoming environment for students, making Bishop Burton College a place with potential for personal and educational development.

Negative experience: Don't rely on your course lasting through the first month! I began studying an access to higher education course in September of this year, and two weeks in they decided it would be acceptable to cancel the course due to there not being enough students. They provided us with no viable option and were extremely unhelpful with finding an alternative course elsewhere. their ''viable'' option was an animal care course, and when I told them that I could not get into university to study what I want to do with this course, they had nothing else to say funnily enough! The college manager was the person who made the decision to cancel the course, but when I rang her to ask what on earth was going on she denied having any knowledge of the course being cancelled - how professional! Myself and two other students (one of whom moved 6 hours away from home to study at Bishop Burton) were thrown out with no other options. I asked: ''what would you have done if students dropped out 3 months in and this resulted in there not being enough students?'' and the response I got was ''we would have made a commitment to the students by then''. Is a student moving across the country not enough for you to make a commitment? The year that I have now wasted due to having no alternative course not enough for you to commit to your students? This college very clearly has no regard for its students and only cares about what funding they can get and trying to save money by cutting courses that they have already started. As an autistic person who has hugely struggled with my mental health in the past, it had taken me years to get to a point where I was able to go back into education, and this event has set me back massively. The college showed no remorse or sympathy for how they treated us and the huge impact this course being cancelled has had because, again, they very clearly could not care less about their students if they tried.

Fantastic experience: My experience with Bishop Burton college has been wonderful in particular one of my tutors Will Duffett has really put a lot of effort into my learning which has really helped me with my education and clearly is very passionate about teaching .

Positive experience: We were attending an equine event. Parking for cars is in the college car park, which is five minute walk from the indoor arena. Not ideal for diabled persons. Very good in general.

Negative experience: This isn’t a good college. As a student of bishop burton, Poor learning of Maths and English. The food, drinks are really expensive which that’s the reason I bring my own food. The course was ok, the football academy is good but people vapes, smokes in locker rooms and I couldn’t believe that there is a smoking area. Not a great college to go there

Negative experience: I highly suggest that your last choice of college to attend should be bishop burton. I studied here doing engineering and was abused mentally by both teachers and "Student support" for my mental health and learning difficulties. treated like an alien. Kicked out when they decided they couldn't be bothered supporting me an further, leading to my problems getting worse. Highly recommend students and parents to avoid if you struggle with any form of difficulties - no support available here.

Negative experience: Bishop burton college is terrible college for an education. as i have been there for 2 years and have got accused by staff for things that i have not done. THEY ARE GETTING RID OFF STUDENTS. The food is expensive how are the Students supposed to pay for food/ the staff are not willing to teach that iv got a few staff that have actually helped me and i appreciate that anyway well iv heard that they are wanting to get rid off construction and engineering so that she or they can may it into a Sports/ Animal college. witch i things disgusting THIS COLLEGE IS THE WORST COLLEGE I SUGGEST NOT GOING. EAST RIDING OFFERS ALLOT MORE AND BETTER QUILIFICATION AS I HAVE DONE MY CARPENTERY AND JOINERY THERE AND ITS AMAZING ASPECIALLY WHEN YOU NEED SUPPORT SO. I GIVE THIS COLLEGE A PHUMBS DOWN!

Negative experience: Terrible. Made me feel like a freak because I had anxiety and couldnt always make it in. If it wasn’t for Lewis I would have left instantly. Don’t go here all they care about is their reputation. No empathy for students whatsoever. Leader of animal course is so rude!

Negative experience: I was offered a place at Bishop Burton only to be told 2 weeks before starting that they weren't sure whether I could do the course because my previous qualification was not similar enough. We've put a deposit down on a house to relocate near the University. Organisation is appalling

Fantastic experience: Just picked up my 2 border terriers from the college, both fully hand stripped and done as assessments for students and WOW... they look absolutely gorgeous, over the moon, the older one Stanley is fussy and hates being faffed with, he's come home full of himself and Shirley was apparently a perfect model. Won't be going anywhere else from now one xxx

Negative experience: absolutely no regard for the students whatsoever, not one care given for pupils who may be struggling only solution is to isolate them, make things worse and not care once it’s not connected to the colleges name and reputation anymore.

Positive experience: I went for an open day and I found that they only do btec courses. However the grounds are absolutely gorgeous, they have over 100 species of animals that are all kept clean and tidy. The staff where very friendly and answered any questions we had an were unbiased when talking about the options.

Bishop Burton College

Hi Kaylee, We're really pleased to hear that you enjoyed exploring our campus. Bishop Burton offers a wide range of courses. At college level, many of our programmes are BTECs, which at Level 3 would allow you to gain the UCAS points you need to study a degree. However, we also offer short courses, Access to Higher Education programmes, undergraduate degrees, Masters degrees and more. If you need any further information, please visit our website or email [email protected]. We'd be happy to help.

Gabriellla Rowe 6 years ago

Positive experience: I decided on taking animal management Level 3. i thought most of my teachers were very good, they were friendly, helpful (most of the time) and you could have a good laugh with them. the campus is decent. However, i think paying £70 for a campus fee is outrageous, all the college seem to want is your money. They're an unorganised college, the food is very expensive and not very good and i find a lot of the students aren't very kind and are rather obnoxious. decided to leave after my first year as i felt the college and course wasn't for me. I've decided to move onto East Riding college in Beverly but i think Wyke would also be a good option for people who want verity.

Negative experience: Horrible.. they acted like a was a mental freak just because I had anxiety!!

Phil Jones 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: Very pleased. Our son spent two years boarding there and completed a Level 3 BTec. We saw enormous change in that time, he became more responsible and grown up. Met a wide wide variety of great people, many of whom he will remain friends with for a long time. Thanks to the Rugby set up he improved his playing ability greatly, having been Yorkshire U16 's representative standard when he joined.

Negative experience: Absolutely awful place to study. Wasted 3 years here.

me myself and i 7 years ago

Negative experience: I went to this college fora 6 week course in 2016. I did not like how to staff here treated me. One teacher told me if we needed paper, go to the cupboard and help yourself to paper, so I did. The next day, I did the same thing, I got some paper. Only this day we had a different teacher, who told me off as if I were a child for getting paper. Absolutely ridiculous! A woman telling me off as 21 year old adult for getting paper, it is pathetic. Another time, someone knocked over a chair by accident and did not pick it up. The teacher assumed it was me although it wasn't, and would not let me leave till I picked up the chair. Again, pathetic. Another teacher I had just refused to teach us because he was too busy using his phone to call his pregnant wife and his bank for financial situations he shouldn't even be telling us about. The staff who work there are a complete embarrassment.

Fantastic experience: A fantastic place to get a degree! As a Higher Education student my experience at Bishop Burton has been outstanding. The lecturers go above and beyond to ensure that you receive the best academic and personal experience possible while in classes. The pastoral care is also exceptional and the staff make the most of the limited resources allocated to them. As a student with alternative lifestyle choices I feel as though my beliefs have been treated with nothing but the up most respect and even the catering staff have made special arrangements to make sure my alternative nutritional needs are met. - BSc Applied Animal Behaviour and Training student

Freya Brooks 7 years ago

Negative experience: one of the over rated college i have ever been 2 in my life they are met to be helpful but they are in one point . but if you have luring difficulty they are not very hands on with u the staff are not very helpful when it come to math sand English and subjects they don't give you help what you need if you are struggling the staff don't help as much they some rally good ones and they are not it depending how you have , you have to google all your work and they staff do not rally teach any thing i have been there for 3 years i have not lured any thing rally staff are more bathed about people up set you have to pay if you are a student £70 to ever one if you are on benefits still £70 and they trees every one like kids they are to soft with people how mess around they give a little stop it the should be kicked out the more bathed about roomers are not right the student don,t get involved with show jumping cross country and Hastings and agree

Negative experience: nah mate not for me printer money haha biggest joke ever so unorganised has potential to be decent but the staff have no idea. Very strange that a sports course are playing quick cricket, something that you teach to primary school kids. On the whole students are treated like children, not young adults! Food is ridiculously over priced and with the addition of paying a £70 campus fee as well as having to pay for the printer each time you use it, it seems very much like this college is driven by money and not for the students benefits. Would highly recommend if you're thinking about this college as the next step to go sit in a quiet space and meditate until the thought leaves your head

Negative experience: Bring back Gardening courses

Jasper Anawin Stokes 10 years ago

Negative experience: Terrible the staff are rude and condescending the teach is horrendous and they only care about your money and not you development and welfare. Attending this place is my biggest regret and would advise anyone thinking of coming here to avoid this place or think hard about it and I would try hard to go to a more respectable university. They're very unreasonable as I left in my 3rd year after 1 lecture and they demanded I pay for the full year now and not when I get a job earning a reasonable wage, as any other higher education institution do and they would only ask for the 1st installment. The facilities are average and you never use them, the food is well overpriced and it was just waste of my personal money and time.

Anonymous Smith 10 years ago

Negative experience: Where can I start?! The teachers are down right rude and speak down to you, like your a toddler (not a 16-18 yo) The food is expensive. I am there 3 days a week, and could probably be there 2 days with all the lessons we don't have! - waste of a day for me. The teachers loose your work and try to blame you for loosing it, when another teacher (who left last year) took it with her,so basically we are going to fail the course because other teachers cant be bothered to contact her to retrieve the work. They never put heating on so we are always cold in the winter. The teachers don't give you any help with work so we end up failing because we don't get taught properly. And we only found out late last year that the course that we are on doesn't lead to anything else, apart from the degree at this place, so I am now restricted to what I can do after the course. I'd advise anyone not to go because it is so rubbish with how the teachers treat you and overall are limited to what you can do afterwards. DON'T GO!
