Bannatyne Health Club: Opinions
Negative experience: They are absolutely intolerant with client, are not allowed to be late, and are not allowed 60 seconds more than closing time ! because the staff can't wait to close the gym and go to home, these behaviours became rude and aggressive sometimes because if you employ 60 or 120 seconds more after 9.00 p.m. time of closing, they call you with a high tone of voice and intimidator way... they start to push out of the gym so e minute before the closing time and don't allow you to finish in quite your gym session... they at 9.00 p.m. o clock close the light, putting you at risk because many times you have to walk lecterally in the dark for exit from gym centre! I have been in many gyms around the world... but just there is this intolerance with clients. I feel always unwelcome here and it seems that they forget that you are paying for attend the gym centre and they don't take you a favour to stay there and work there. I ask if the staff don't like work there and after nothing a minute from closing time they became so nervous to wait , intolerant and sometimes aggressive, why they don't consider to change work! ... I'd like to remember that them useful in the gym centre is because there are client like me who pay to attend it .... and if they continue to apply, thus behaviour with clients... e eryone will run far from this gym center and them work could be not more available if the clients of the gym center will decrease as is natural when you receive a indecent trattament l from the staff like that without a really ragionevol motivation but just for 1 ir 2 minute sometimes no all times! That can be needed to exit from the gym. So I am very sad to write this, but after some years the pessim behaviour from a part of staff I nite never change. So if you want to relax, meet a good place where you can feel welcome and you want down enjonable time to do gym session and exercises go far from this gym centre is not for you... So of course I can change the gym centre but before this happens why don't you change staff?... Here's how to handle a complaint: then they send you the letter from the legal office! is evident as revenge and to intimidate me. Dear manager, my response is a splendid smile because you make people laugh... anyway, I can't wait to tell your legal office, and Mr. Ducan, how do part of the Staff treat the customers of this centre and is the way to solve the complaints sending as reply a letter from legal office? I am afraid this not will help you to solve a lot complaints you receive and you will receive. Before calling the legal office, try to think to offer a decent service in the gym centre that is also so much more expensive considering very low quality. The legal letter is a reverange that It will not stop me from saying what I think about the really bed behaviour of major part of you staff have.

Negative experience: Times up!? - The guy opens the door to sauna, shouts the time is up and walks away? In old days this place was closing in time when it said was closing - today staff close 20min ahead of closing so you guys can go home when the gym sais its time - BAD HABBIT! You should allow people to finish exercising (until the very end), then stop people comming in, take your time to clean the gym and go home when done. You should take an hour after its closing time to make sure all is good to close. Who said I need to go 20minutes before you think I should go? Make sure its not happening again, otherwise the contract is void.
Negative experience: I visited this place using a day pass which was £20 as I was with a full paying member. I was expecting a state of the art gym considering the monthly membership is over £70 a month. However I was surprised to see a very old and dated gym in the basement. I could not believe how bad it was considering the price. I guess they are charging for the location.
Fantastic experience: Small but incredibly convenient, great staff, serviceable equipment, really nice facilities. I have used Bannatyne Healthclubs up and down the UK and they are always of a high standard.
Fantastic experience: I went here for the first time today (Sunday afternoon). It was a fitness gym with the best service and quality facilities I have experienced in the UK (although I only used the pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and changing room). The staff are top notch and I really appreciate the work they do to keep it clean. I can sincerely understand why this gym is located in Westminster. Thank you very much.
Negative experience: I have been frequenting Bannatyne's Millbank for over 15 years initially as a full time member and most recently as someone who visits London to see family. It used to be a fantastic club with enthusiastic, helpful staff but since opening (post-covid financial pains I suspect) it's an unrecognisably strange, eerie and surreal place. Staff are incredibly unhelpful and don't seem to care about the gym or the members; they're just perpetually checked out; on their phones, talking to each other, or aimlessly wandering around. No one is ever at the front desk to see people in, they'll just be laughing and chatting amongst each other in the office. Signing up for a day-pass is a 15 minute process which is incredibly agonizing when you're inputting the exact same profile everyday. If you join for just a month you have to sign up and then send an email for cancellation, which is tedious when surely someone could just process that in front of you? Cleaning staff randomly work out beside you during your exercises. I've never experienced that in a gym before, in retrospect it is quite amusing but in the moment it is very bizarre and frustrating when they -- without politely asking -- just take the equipment you're using and exercise themselves. Don't they have the entire day to workout? There was one member who would not only stare at me during my workout everyday but join in. The staff also claim the gym closes at 9pm but start TURNING OFF EQUIPMENT YOU'RE USING at 8:40pm and then give you barbed attitude saying we're closed if you politely ask for more time. One star is for the club actually maintaining fantastic, up to speed equipment and weights, which is the minimum you can ask of a gym. It also has an extremely dark, dimly lit pool which looks more like a sensory deprivation tank for a whale than a well-lit swimming arena, but it is an ostensibly clean and well-run pool nonetheless. Now, the worst part of all. The pricing is exorbitant for how small the gym is which also makes no sense. When measured against its immediate competitors, this tiny gym is now £89.99 a month when PureGym and The Gym Group are 20-26 pounds a month for university-sized gyms with multiple locations around central London and better hours. What the heck is the cost breakdown to justify £89.99 a month for a gym this tiny with barely any staff? I'd love to hear a response to this review with the answer. The amalgamation of these factors leads me to say: there are so many better options out there. Save yourself the suspiciously high pricing and join a different gym.
Fantastic experience: Great gym and club.
Fantastic experience: I can swim thanks to immerse!enough not to drown
Negative experience: The location is perfect but the pool area and gym require professional cleaning EVERY DAY. When one complains privately nobody takes any notice and it is always a member’s fault. Customer services are just not existent there. Can somebody please ask their management to CLEAN the gym and spa professionally daily as our requests are continuously ignored. What’s the point of having 3 cleaners who think it is below them to ‘scrub’ the spa? Also, our personal items have been disappearing over years now and it is never their responsibility.
Fantastic experience: Excellent experience from beginning til end. Membership canceled due to moving from the area.
Fantastic experience: Greate Experience
Fantastic experience: Amazing place, great staff always helpful and smiley. They go above and beyond. Clean, loads of classes, great equipment and not often busy.
Fantastic experience: Super
Negative experience: Poor hygiene, have recently cancelled my membership. Showers have not been cleaned once in the whole year I went to Milbank Bannatyne and there is mould everywhere. The place is falling apart and needs some serious capex, with some genuine structural issues. 1-2 of the staff are kind and genuinely try to be helpful but aren’t that intelligent, and the remainder are pretty useless. I would avoid opening up about your personal, especially to the blonde steroid taking personal trainer (the irony) as it’s an envious environment with bad energy and these guys pretty much live the same day on loop into perpetuity. His PT sessions are a gimmick and will have you rolling your shoulders for half an hour, I’ve seen people doing this for many months on end with little to no change. The other PTs seem somewhat competent, compared to this anyways. Gym is poorly equipped with 0 light and the spa makes me wretch. London is often about compromises and we can often look past minor issues. Not in this case, save your hygiene and energy and go to a better gym, Shocking this place is still open, some serious health, safety and personnel concerns @westminister council.
Fantastic experience: Good gym with a nice vibe. Never over crowded and the staff are a friendly bunch!
Positive experience: Been going for years and it’s steadily going down ,staff is lovely but they have lessons in the already small swimming pool ,changing rooms are cold and now they only give you one towel
Negative experience: Awful experience, joined in October after a number of days was truly appalled by the lack of cleanliness, poor equipment and poor service recieved. I requested to cancel after a week and for the second month charge not to be applied and was met with a rude response from the team onsite, I have raised these concerns to the Executive team at Bannatyne and was completely dismissed, and informed they are doing a great job in fact Karl Kerin the regional manager "visited last week and they are doing a great job". Please save your money and time and stay away from this mob crowd. Extremely old equipment and lack of quality classes. Really wish I could turn the time back on this one.
Negative experience: Worst gym ever been to in my life . Pikeys with tags on , in the gym and a swimming pool full off old lady’s that smell like fish. Signed up for 3 months and was forced to be members for 1 years ! As the un qualified sales man ticked the wrong box . Complained to manager and Bailif enforcement team was notified and was harassed daily ! Threatening me with court. They then took money from my account as a settlement even though I stopped using the gym after the first few months .. will be going to trading standards .. this place needs shutting down they should be ashamed of them selfs and the was they conducts so called business.. if I could leave a minus star I would . ⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️
Negative experience: Instead go to Maida Vale Bannatynes where you'll feel much more welcome, unless your happy for the bored cleaner to stalk you around the poolside like some deeply disturbed and depraved predator, then steals your towel, and for management to refuse an investigation into the CCTV. Avoid Millbank SW1 if you don't want to feel exploited and uncomfortable. The staff cleaner was overheard actually bad mouthing club members in the female changing room, and many of the members themselves are really stuck up, hostile, image obsessed and clicky, much of this issue boils down to favouritism, these 'yuppy' types scorn at you round the poolside and as you come out the showers, the female members seem to have NO respect for unfamiliar or new members or anyone's privacy, dignity, and rights to access the spa they pay to use.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff, creating a friendly atmosphere and great equipment.
Fantastic experience: Looks good
Fantastic experience: Great hidden spa
Negative experience: Tried to buy a voucher online never concluded then I tried 2 more times , next day look at my bank account and been charged 3 times, now is over one week and stil don't have my refund
Positive experience: Average gym. Quite small
Fantastic experience: Nice and clean place
Fantastic experience: Nice
Negative experience: I had a massage here that was so bad, it was 8 years ago and I am still mad about it
Positive experience: I have only been to 3 branches. Westwood, Milbank and Bishopsgate area. What I like is that these health clubs are reasonably priced, usually pretty quiet and the equipment suits my needs. It's great that u can use different clubs accross the country at no extra cost. I love that. What I think needs improving is the maintenance and attention to detail. Quite often something will be out of service - jacuzzi, drinking fountain, trunk dryer etc... It depends on the branch but this is something that could be solved pretty easily IMO. Not a big deal and as I say, for the money, these clubs are very good and I am a happy member. I would be happy to pay more for higher maintenance, nicer soap, premium towels etc.
Negative experience: The place has seen better times. The deco is outdated, the swimming pool/sauna area/changing rooms are old and dirty. On the positive side the staff are nice but I would not recommend this place any time soon. To be forgotten. A very poor experience
Fantastic experience: Joined earlier this month, friendly and responsive staff. Not a huge gym but strong range of facilities (gym, pool, sauna, steam, jacuzzis etc) and set in a nice building. Being in the city, had the place almost to myself on a Saturday!
Positive experience: Enjoyed the good pampering
Fantastic experience: The location is brilliant, easy to get to... Fantastic facilities, lovely spa area, clean ... Professional staff and very helpful, highly recommend.
Dear Liudmila, We really appreciate your kind words.
Positive experience: Nice atmosphere, clean gym and friendly staff. Personally, I have had sessions with two of the PTs - Linda and Robbie, who were both knowledgable, professional and made the workout enjoyable. It’s a bit pricier than some of the other gyms but it has a pool, jacuzzi and sauna :)
Dear Aline, Thanks you for your review. It's very nice to hear you enjoy your workout at our gym.
Fantastic experience: Cracking spot.
Thanks for your 5 star Tom.
Fantastic experience: Most friendly staff I have experienced from a gym. Pool and jacuzzis are brilliant, would definitely recommend
Dear Abby, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this amazing review.
Negative experience: Complete rip off much better options in London now for better value.
Thank you for posting a review and we're sorry to hear that your experience was not of the quality you expected.
Negative experience: If I could give this gym 0 stars I would! Absolutely disgusting changing rooms, mould in the shower dispensers and a general feeling of everything just being covered in grime and mould. Desperately needs a refurbishment, especially in the pool area (although apparently it's just had one). They keep the lighting very low so when you’re shown around it looks really cosy and appealing. It’s not until you actually use the facilities that you realise how utterly old and dirty everything is. I had signed up for a six month membership and went about about four times. I just couldn’t bring myself to use the changing rooms! The gym itself is okay but very small with barely any equipment. The fitness classes aren’t bad, but with the ones I attended I was the only person there and with a trainer who wasn’t very engaging it was kind of awkward. Also, when I was shown around, I was told about the treatment rooms and that you get your first treatment half price. Turns out Millbank doesn’t offer treatments anymore and had stopped a year before. So totally missold there! I’ve been a member of Virgin, Third Space and F45, all high end amazing gyms with clean and well kept facilities and I’ve also been to Pure Gym, DW and Fit4Less and this gym is honestly the worst place I’ve ever been to in my life. Avoid at all costs. It’s beyond disgusting.
Dear Emily, Thanks for your review, We set a high standard for ourselves, and we're sorry to hear this was not met in your interaction with our business.
Positive experience: The place was clean, both jacuzzi and pool was cold, the only good thing was the steam rooms, the gym look okay, I didn't not use it. The changing room was clean, lockers are good size. But honestly I expected better.
Dear Michael, Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear you had such a frustrating experience, but we really appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and nice atmosphere!
Dear James, We are so grateful for your kind words.
Negative experience: I wouldn't recommend bad atmosphere
Dear Zaakirah, we are very sorry to hear this. Here is our email address [email protected] we would love to hear more about your experience.
Positive experience: Nice and convenient, good swimming pool great equipment gym and pleasant staff. Works for me.
Thanks Michael, we appreciate your review.
Fantastic experience: Great location and clean gym. Really enjoying the group classes as well as gym sessions by myself. Kristel delivers an excellent yoga class, definitely recommend it! Very nice overall experience.
Thanks Maritina for such amazing review!
Positive experience: Very nice little pool and jacuzzi area. Plenty of machines for gym people.
Thanks Ben, we appreciate all feedback we receive.
Fantastic experience: I am always treated well each week I am in attendance.
Fantastic experience: Marvelous
Fantastic experience: Really well located for anybody working in Westminster. The wet facilities (pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi) are excellent. Gym floor is well equipped with high tech treadmills, bikes and weights machines and there are loads of classes to choose from. The gym and classes are rarely crowded- the place has a really nice atmosphere, with a lounge area and free hot drinks. Towels are included which is really helpful for going before or after work! Staff there are outstanding- friendly and genuinely interested in the well-being of their customers. All in all, well worth the monthly cost for an SW1 club with a pool!
Thanks for your kind words.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities (Inc spa, sauna, steam room, swimming pool) in addition to the the free weights and cardio/classes rooms. Complimentary drinks and towels Inc in your membership. Friendly staff, considerate&mindful managers and experienced PT. Perfect if you are looking to simply start with a new gym or if you want to progress with coaching support. Overall great value for money. Would highly recommend.
Thank you Kevin, we really appreciate you taking the time to write this review and great to know you would recommend us!
Fantastic experience: Not a bad little place, small but functional in most aspects. It has a decent sized pool, sauna, steam and hot tub. It has a very small gym, it packs the basics, but not 100% fully equipped but you can still get a good workout from here if needed. They have classes, not taken any but they look pretty decent from what I've seen. There is 2 treatment rooms, I assume for massages etc, again not something I've thought about but nice for those that need it. Free tea, coffee and fountain water and also free towels which is a nice plus. Overall, not bad and centrally located too. Make sure you bring flip flops and a padlock with you for the lockers.
Thank you for your 5 star review Mike, we are glad you are enjoying your new membership with us.
Positive experience: Nice place but small and over crowded during pick time. Off pick nice and empty.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, friendly staff!
Thank you for taking the time to review us Ana, we are glad you are enjoying your membership.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, excellent equipment, nice atmosphere. Would reccomend.
Thanks Dan! We hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant team and great classes
Negative experience: Terrible service, keep spamming me with texts
Negative experience: Absolutely awful gym, incredibly rude management and reception staff, which by the way has very high turnover. Unclean changing rooms, small pool often used by rude and aggressive phsyiotherapy practice. Strongly advise not using. Unfortunately they have pretty much guaranteed clientele being in office building in heart of media and government in Westminster, but at least readers can save their money and nerves by avoiding these ripoff merchants. And by the way, vast majority of reviews seem to agree with me, which is not always the case.
Negative experience: Absolutely awful. Steer clear. My husband and I had a wedding gift (for a treatment each). We turned up. No staff had arrived. They were late! Waited for ages. Offered us no drinks. People who turned up 45 mins after us got offered drinks. We finally went in for the treatment to find it finished 15 mins before it should have (guess they were trying to make up time). Not impressed. No apology or communication for that matter. Extremely unprofessional. We will never go back.
Negative experience: Tired decor and equipment embraced the late 90's didn't let go.
Negative experience: Terrible gym and terrible staff
Positive experience: Really great staff and an intense yoga class. Reasonable size gym and spa considering its location. The place could do with a refurb though! Quite tatty...
Negative experience: By far the worst gym I ever been. Facilities and equipment are poorly working and not clean properly. Not fully equipped with gym necessary machines i.e. there's no equipment for legs! Very small room for work out and at peak times it's so busy you can barely move around. Never had my introduction or any assistance from the employees when I first joined. Personal trainers only help you if you book a lesson with them. Better spend your money and time to any other gym because once you join you are sort of trapped with them and their excessive terms of service.
Positive experience: This club is going through some renovation soon, very old style changing rooms where you have to bring your own lock? They do provide them free in reception.. They are making changes fingers crossed
Fantastic experience: Pros: * Great staff, very friendly and enthusiastic * Clean and tidy * Cozy, pool area always kept at 30 degrees Celsius so that no one catches a cold after swimming * Generally great value for money * Swimsuit drying machine (self use, takes 5s) * Great lounge area with the mornings newspapers Cons: * Sauna sometimes too cold (83-85 degrees), sure you can warm it bit pouring water on the rocks, but I don't want to do it case the staff shout at me * For whatever f-ing reason there's an air conditioner in the men's changing room which so conviently keeps you cool after you get out of shower Tips: * My routine goes like this: Steam Room - pool - rest - sauna - jaccuzi * at the pool be careful which showers you use- the last two have nice warm water and the front two shower you in ice cold water (great after a sauna)
Positive experience: Not very clean. Not very busy
Positive experience: Nice place clean with nice and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Great for stressed out BBC execs
Positive experience: Gym is very small and the locker room could be a bit more modern, but the treatment were very nice!
Negative experience: Boycott "Bannatyne Gym" when your membership expires. Join another, but ask the question about security and compensation if a theft occurs. Ask to see the insurance documents and ask where it states. That in the case of theft from a locker, no compensation will be paid. If they refuse show the documents, there should be a notice displayed in the Gym showing that they have insurance and the Insurer's name on it. Contact them directly and ask the question. It wouldn't surprise me to find that they are covered but "Bannatyne Gym won't put a claim because the premiums will go up.
Negative experience: Dirty, small and the spa deal was rubbish
Positive experience: Small but complete gym if you work nearby Westminster station, and they have classes of Les Mills programme!
Negative experience: More than a Health club this is a spa, except that for a spa you'd expect the men's changing area to be nice and it's not! Really not! The machines are high spec, but two whole walls are taken up by cardio equipment, which leaves no room for weights and resistance equipment. I could not really get a proper workout here. Not sure why I kept paying over £60 a month for this gym.
Negative experience: I had heard of the Bannatyne spa and because of it's location in Millbank I was expecting this to be a high quality venue. Unfortunately, I found the spa to be quite average and dated, in need of modernisation and decoration. The spa does have all the facilities you'd expect from a spa, pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, treatment rooms. The use of dressing gowns, towels and shower shoes is an additional charge.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, great swimming pool
Negative experience: Slowly being run into the ground, chipping away at the things that make it worth paying the premium: equipment falling apart, showers no longer maintained, "perks" of tea and coffee / cereal being removed.
Fantastic experience: I went to Millbank spa 11th August, I had a neck, shoulder & back massage which was out of this world!!facial & my eyebrows shaped. All I can say is what an amazing experience! The staff were extremely friendly & helpful, the facilities were fantastic! Steam room, jacuzzi & pool all within a stone throw of each other. Beautiful surroundings. It was exceptionally clean & well maintained! Would I go again ? Absolutely..... Thank you Ballentyne spa for a lovely day
Negative experience: Dreadful customer service, no clear structure on cancelation / freeze of your membership, internal processes are messed up. Tried to cancel my membership twice, but both times due to customer service mistake I had to pay additional month fee. Changing rooms are disguasting, dirty and stinky. The worst gym and customer service in London, will not advise to anyone.
Negative experience: In desperate need of renovation, or a good scrub at the very least...
Negative experience: Booked my treatment 3 months in advance via email as they didn't have any weekend dates until then. We changed our holiday plans around this appointment. Turned up on the day only to find no record of our appointment. Then spent about half an hour on hold before finally talking to someone who then had to call back another half hour later after talking to her supervisor. We were eventually given a refund, but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
Negative experience: Would have given 0 stars but it wouldn't let me. Disgusting changing rooms, worse than my old school ones. Desperately needs a refurbishment (although apparently it's just had one), dirty walls, floors, towels chucked all over the place and a thick layer of dust over the equipment. Of course they do a great job of showing you the only parts that look reasonable, and don't show the changing rooms before you join.
Fantastic experience: Well I don't know what some of these negative reviews are about, I loved it, it is worth the money, the staff were friendly to me and my sister. Booking again soon.
Positive experience: Good value for money
Negative experience: Would NEVER recommend this place. Its tiny like a little square box. more gym space then a actually spa all there is is a swimming pool little steam room an sauna. You cant spend all day in little swimming pool considering this was a all day spa. Then when you want tea or coffee you have to go back into reception in your dressing gown infront of everyone and sit in reception there was no relaxing place to sit and drink coffee. The staff wasn't friendly either. You pay all this money but its so not worth it. Your just paying for the name really cos its in London. Would never go back again. would never recommend do your research first.
Negative experience: Got spa vouchers. Worst deal ever. The massage rooms had paper thin walls and the pumping music from the gym could be heard inside. There was a weird sound coming from the vent. I had to keep asking for the music to be turned down and didn't get extra time when the masseuse stepped out to get the music sorted. The massage rooms are in the corridor to the swimming pool so everything happening outside could be heard inside. It was not worth the money.
