Services, Machines and Guided Classes
Becontree Heath Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed with this gym. The staff are consistently rude and, frankly, unhelpful. They lack any real knowledge about the services they provide, and when asked for basic information, they seem completely clueless. This gym could be fantastic, but the disorganization and the unprofessional staff make it one of the worst gyms I’ve ever been to. Unfortunately, the staff's behavior and the poorly managed systems overshadow any potential benefits. Would not recommend.
Fantastic experience: Shannon on reception is warm and welcoming and a great assest Barney the swim teacher has the kids best interest at heart and I would recommend him in a heartbeat . My kids love attending each week for their swimming lessons.
Negative experience: The new compound platforms are horizontally uneven, not even and very weak and makes movements when lifting weights. It's absolutely jarring because I got knee injuries from it
Fantastic experience: This was an amazing experience for me and my friends we met here so it's a very memorable place and I love so I hope you will love it as much as I do
Fantastic experience: Becontree leisure centre has a very positive people working there. The staff, teachers (Barney, Laura, Roberta and others) and reception ladies ( Angie and Shannon) are invaluable and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Good Boost led by Angie is not only great fun but it has positively impacted on both my physical and mental wellbeing. I look forward to the session every Friday. I could not recommend the sessions enough!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to good boost for a year now it’s helped so much. My coach Angie is so supportive and cares about her clients. It just doesn’t help physically but helps mentally as well. Would highly recommend joining.
Fantastic experience: This review is for Rachel, swim teacher at the Becontree Heath swimming pool. Rachel has been instrumental in my daughter's learning and developing swim skills that allowed her to progress into Furure Stars within the Aquatic Club. Rachel has so much passion for teaching young kidd, she never fails to help them, correct them, praise them and encourage them, making sure each lesson is productive. Rachel pays attention to every swimmer and is able to spot talent, giving that extra guidance and feedback when needed. A truly wonderful teacher you are Rachel. Massive thank you (especially from Amelia) for everything you have done!.
Negative experience: The pool and locker room need a deep clean. And staff who are not very educated on how to talk to parents and teach young children. Do not recommend this for swimming lessons at all. Rescuers generally behave very rudely.
Fantastic experience: Signed up recently, Angie was amazing, so helpful and professional. She remembers my name and always greets me with a warm friendly smile every time I visit the centre!!! Awesome job
Fantastic experience: Great space. Lovely staff. It's clean and the new showers are great. Softplay is fun and they have seasonal kids activities too.
Fantastic experience: Learning to swim as an adult at Becontree Leisure Centre has been an incredible journey, thanks to my amazing instructor, Roberto. Her patience, encouragement, and expertise have helped me progress from initial apprehension to confidently practicing in the deep end. Roberto reassures me every week that I can do this, and her structured yet flexible approach makes learning enjoyable. She breaks down techniques clearly and builds my confidence with every session. Her positivity and dedication set her apart, making each lesson a rewarding experience. For anyone looking to learn swimming, I highly recommend Roberto. She not only teaches techniques but also instills confidence and a love for the water.
Negative experience: This gym is so dirty. They never clean it! The stretch area is full of dust and rubbish, causing allergic reactions.
Fantastic experience: @Rachel.my daughter she start loving the swimming, because she’s teacher she try to explain everything to the highest level.thanks Rachel.
Negative experience: There is no sauna or steam , how sad
Fantastic experience: Good pool Need bookings Easy access Lots of space in changing room
Negative experience: I wanted to use the gym and it might have been good but sadly i didn't find out! I got a day pass, arrived for when it opened this morning and was told that it needed activating by the 'sales team', who come in an hour later 'if i am lucky'. Not only that but apparently there was an online induction i needed to do as well. I have been to several gyms and not once have i had to deal with this bureaucracy and poor customer service. I certainly will not be joining as a result of this. Scuppered my plans for the morning for no good reason.
Negative experience: Messi, dirty surroundings, main entrance... always. Careless management.
Positive experience: Loads of traffic inside. Work in progress. In a complete mess. Staff are helpful but made helpless by the system. and over crowdedness
Negative experience: Very very horrible place and stuff!!!! The worst place where I ever been in London Definitely not recommend !! Everything very dirty,l took membership for my son swimming lessons,so they take 52.50£ from my card, and explain if I don’t like it l can cancel due two weeks witch one l did!But suddenly they take another payment which one l didn’t consider. So l take membership for one month.Due two weeks time they charge me two times! When l came with my son to the lesson at 10 o’clock reseptionist lady said that the lesson is cancelled. What a surprise she said the pool is cold.No one didn’t let me know about. So l take Uber because I not drive.Dress up myself and my son pay 20£ for Uber, spend time and money for nothing. Instead I went to the swimming office there was 2 manager one of them talking to someone l did knock and ask them l need cancel membership should I wait, they said yes.I been waiting with my baby 30 min. When they finish talk. They just closed door on front of my face don’t explain nothing and gone.Very rude to me.I’m very sad about
Negative experience: The worst customer service ever. I was put to hold for 45mins when I was explaining my issue. A simple change of centre for my daughter swimming lesson is dragged for two weeks and still has no answer on how to do it. This is so unprofessional and below average. Do not go here. Try somewhere else.
Negative experience: Pros: It’s near me, it does the job Cons: Unaffordable, small gym, broken equipment, no gym only membership, £5 freeze fee, convoluted cancellation, not 24/7
Negative experience: If you like gym machines that are out of order for months and toilets that are out of use or disgusting when they are open then you’ll be happy.
Negative experience: The staff was very rude and unprofessional. I asked for a glass of water for my son, who was dehydrated from playing in Joly Jungle in the kids' play area. However, the employee directly refused and said they were closed, even though they were not — she was working in the kitchen.
Negative experience: £17 to book badminton court for 1h that’s disgusting not promoting sports at all it’s not even clean there what a joke
Fantastic experience: Friday evening swimming youth club runs every week 8pm to 9pm excluding half terms
Positive experience: If you can sign up and use harrow lodge its a lot nicer. Becontree centre is smaller and unfortunately the swimming facilities are not comparable to the harrow lodge one. Otherwise its no thrills and fair for its price.
Negative experience: I would give 0 Stars if I could As a 15 year old, from the start I was told I could enter the gym between 3-5PM on weekends. 3 or 4 months go by into my membership, where I am just stopped and detained by a member of staff, taken out of the gym and placed into an office when I am then argued with for 30 mins about how the times for 15 year olds is actually 9AM-1PM. Just to clarify, I’ve been told by the membership team, about 4 desk workers and 3 different gym trainers that work there that I am allowed to go between 3-5PM. Ruined my day, that inexperienced staff member for no reason.
Negative experience: Left this gym with reasons being : Equipment always seemed broken. Toilets never clean or broken for months. Cleanliness of the gym was poor also…Always remember I dropped some chalk on the floor and the stain was still there about 3 years later Too many egos in the gym. Just groups of guys lifting nothing bigging each other up, slamming and throwing weights they can’t lift properly and taking ages on everything. Also laughing at people not in their groups who are there trying to better themselves instead of helping. Not what gym culture is about at all.
Positive experience: Friendly staff at reception. However woke changing area (sharing village ) they call it. If you have kids, beware stay with them at all times. Better other leisure centre who have designated for x and y chromosones.
Negative experience: Firstly, one of the men's toilets in the swimming pool has been out of order since September 2023. Previously, both were out of order in September 2013. The women's toilets are working fine. I suspect that gender discrimination was performed by Barkig & Dadenham Council managers. Secondly, the booking system was unreliable. Many times on adult swimming lanes, also booked the child private lessons, even additional exams.I just want to use the swimming pool one time per week. The management is blocking this option. Why? For 5.30£ per available seasons?Encouraging membership for 34£? Also, the automatic showers have water above 60 degrees. They are burning the skin. It cannot be adjusted. Nobody cares about this. Many od them are out of order for monts.Shame for managers and Dagenham&Barking Council. Finally, I found a much more friendly swimming pool in the Romford area. Shame again B&D Council managers.
Positive experience: Lovely staff but locker rooms and floors very dirty
Positive experience: Overall great place but could do with some improvements particularly around the cleanliness of the swim changing rooms and the showers and toilets there which are filthy quite often. Showers especially need upgrading. Gym area is great especially after refurb. Lack of enforcement around parking in disabled spots is also a massive issue.
Positive experience: aside from stinky shower area and dusty changing room, receptionist has a very a rude way of talking..was asking about jolly jungle and she said it’s closed that’s all you need to know.
Fantastic experience: Excellent sport centre ( Becontree) excellent staff and plus easy to use app to book swimming or other classes would recommend to my family and friends
Negative experience: Filthy leisure centre in need of deep cleaning. Pool temperature and shower temperatures are inconsistent particularly in winter.
Negative experience: Very slow and rude staff and they always backchat and they are very slow at reception I would not recommend going here the swimming pool is dirty
Negative experience: I love swimming here but the showers need a deep clean. I've went and found the same dirt and hair in the same place for two consecutive days. Please hire a full time cleaner, you make a lot of money.
Negative experience: Pool changing cubicles are pretty poor… they need a good scrub with disinfectant. Get your fingers out cleaners…I’m sure you are not doing it for nothing so earn your money not just by sluicing it down with a drop of water .. clean them
Negative experience: nice facility, horrible front desk staff. very appalled by their lack of communication i had stood in front of them and i had to wait until they had finished THEIR private conversation From as well as their rude attitude towards me and my family
Positive experience: Thumbs up for gym, it's nice and seems fairly clean. Swimming pool is spacious but it had a dirt on the bottom, couldn't keep my eyes away from it, showers are filthy and full of hair on the walls, water is leaking from shower heads. It clearly says no screaming or jumping in swimming pool, yet some kids were screaming for a good 20min splashing water on everyone and everything (we all understand they are learning to swim but manners applies to everyone as some people comes to exercise and relax).
Negative experience: way overpriced, dirty gym equipment, staff do not care
Positive experience: Down falls of this sports centre are the internet site isn't the most user friendly, you can struggle to get an answer when ringing through to reception and it's cashless. That aside the swimming pool is fine, not too warm and there are different lanes for slow, medium or fast swimmers.... must say though, they need to bring back the spin dryers to drain out your swim shorts!
Positive experience: Gym is amazing, staff and facilities are amazing too! Sometimes the temp is a bit up and down but otherwise amazing!
Negative experience: Far to many people crammed into the gym for profit purposes. It is pot luck if you can get on any equipment. Don't plan a session because you will not be able to use the machines or free weights.
Negative experience: I pay £30 odd quid a month for my son. £50 quid a month for me and it is absolutely impossible to get on any piece of equipment because its far to packed !!!!
Negative experience: Came in for lane swimming on a Sunday 5pm just to find out there was no lane swimming just a mosh pit of kids and adults as if it were public swimming. But no it’s my fault for coming in on a Sunday. I just wanted to fulfill my mermaid fantasises MY BAD I’m disappointed mermaid now
Negative experience: Absolutely dirty and disgusting smell in the changing area for swimming lessons. You will smell pee and you can find like a suprize- poo in the showers. The lessons are amazing but children catching diseases from low maintenance in there.
Negative experience: Kids / babies swimming lessons - PLEASE do not take your small children here . Pool temperature is consistently freezing cold . Centre are aware but blame a defective boiler constantly. Even when the pool is freezing they allow lessons to go ahead. Baby pool is also extremely dirty as is the changing areas . Poor management and not somewhere i will continue to take my son after a small amount of swimming lessons here I can confirm it is not up to a standard I would call acceptable
Fantastic experience: After 7 o'clock, you pretty much get to use all the machines at the gym, and swimming is also amazing with cold water and a depth of 2 meters, I would recommend people to bring swimming buds to prevent water getting in your ears.
Fantastic experience: Very good leisure point. Where you can swimming. Playing. Doing exercises and many more.
Negative experience: The worst experience ever At this centre My membership card stopped working and the receptionist said that it was £68.17 it was such a rip off. Definitely do not come to this leisure centre
Positive experience: It has pretty much everything you need for your fitness quest and more. Olympic sized swimming pools are a pretty rare in this country, especially in the capital so if Swimming is your thing, you're gonna love it! Also if cardio is your thing and you like high-tech treadmills you're gonna love it. They have at least one of every exercise machine, both cable-pulleys and weight-swings. Changing facilities are adequate and they include a family change area and the whole place is accessible to wheelchair users. The price is unbelievable compared to most gyms in greater London (that also have a swimming pool). There's always someone at reception who is friendly and helpful. Only draw-backs are: 1) Free weight section is smaller than you'd expect for such a large facility. 2) The gym side toilet is absolutely filthy... how hard is it to clean a room that's only 10 feet by 10 feet? 3) With the amount of active members, you might need to plan your workout in a quieter time of the day. 4) Sometimes the turnstiles don't work properly... still I'd rather use those than the sci-fi pods that some gyms use. All things considered, I would recommend this to anyone in the local area... you've heard the expression "you get what you pay for" and at Becontree Heath you definitely do!
Fantastic experience: The very best ,training instructor, Colleague ,workers, equipment oh my goodness I have it all, will always be there , thank to Becontree Heath leisure centre
Negative experience: I usually go to Harrow lodge for swimming with my children but they were fully booked so thought we would try beacontree leisure centre….never again. Firstly the changing rooms were filthy!!! There were dirty nappies across the floor in multiple changing rooms, dirty tissues and half eaten food. In fact the floor was just dirty, you could see it on your feet when changing. The majority of lockers have just a key so there is no way of strapping it to your wrist whilst swimming. Whilst swimming they allowed a woman to be poolside who was wearing outdoor shoes and taking photos on her phone. Half the showers didn’t work. Appalling and will not be returning!!!
Negative experience: I had to go urgently home , and when I come next day , my locker was broken by the managers and when I come the next day , all my staff was stolen , and they said they are not responsible for my losses! I am very disappointed! Do not go to this gym !
Negative experience: The customer service at the counter was appalling. The lady at the counter falsely accused me of being rude, and, unfortunately, the manager's behavior was even worse. It's crucial for management to consider assigning more professional staff, especially at the counter, particularly when children are involved. The current staff's apparent ego issues have created an unwelcoming atmosphere. My 7 year old son was unfairly forced out of his lesson due to the team's incompetence, leaving him traumatized. I strongly urge management to address these concerns promptly.
Negative experience: No one answers the phone or the email. Only way to speak to someone is to go there in person... Adult swimming lessons are OKAY not great at all, there is no instruction and the instructors seem to just have a chat throughout the sessions.
Negative experience: I drove to the center today for swimming lessons for my daughter but was told at reception that there are no lessons. There were no lessons last week either. No email or text communication was sent about cancelled sessions, they assumed you have read notice board in the center. least you can expect is some form of communication for such breaks. They are happy to send loads of marketing rubbish in emails but not bothered to send important communication. very disappointed with the management.
Negative experience: I had a swimming lesson on Tuesday 2nd January 2024 and it is very important for me to have it due to my mental and physical health. I changed my return ticket from holidays to come back early for this but when I reached there, I was told there is NO SWIMMING LESSON. They deducted the FULL MEMBERSHIP fee right on 2nd January 2024 but there was no swimming lesson on that day. There was no lesson in the previous week as well and charged the FULL MEMBERSHIP for December. I don't know how this is allowed. This should be reported to the consumer right team if I do not get my money back. Staff is very friendly but management is poor and below standards. This place really need a review by the independent body.
Negative experience: The pool showers have mould growing. You can smell strong mould smell as soon as you enter any of the shower cubicles. Disgusting!! Also the big pool always feels so cold. Not sure if they are keeping it at the right temperature, no wonder people are avoiding it in winters
Positive experience: Subpar gym for the price you pay. Student price is still way too expensive with discount. You get mainly basic equipment and the space isn’t too big to accommodate the amount of people who come here. Would be great if on the Everyone Active app you could see how many people are in the gym to save you a trip of coming here just to find all the equipment occupied. Some machines are so rusty and some spaces very dirty. Changing rooms need a major updating as well. Sometimes they are quite dirty and the amenities are appalling for the price you pay as there is only basic showers and dated hairdryers that are normally tattered or broken. Toilets are constantly shocking as well, one is always out of service and it just feels dirty entering the bathrooms here. Classes I’ve taken have always been lovely, never particularly challenging, but seeing how the majority of the people who take these classes are elderly people I can see why they wouldn’t push you too far. Also no women’s only space here which I think is a huge oversight in this day and age. Overall, I froze my membership and have not felt compelled to renew it. So so supbar here.
Fantastic experience: The 25m swimming pool is very clean, however, it can get very busy due to swimming lessons and areas for public swimming taking over swimming lanes. Changing area normally clean, but during peak times can be a bit messy. Booking system is very easy to use and slots are always available. The 50m swimming pool is amazing and very clean, but unfortunately they only open during weekends, morning time only. I hope this could be extended to weekdays with more time slots. Gym is very nice as well, plenty of equipments and mostly new. Free weights area quite small but overall ok. Overall, this leisure centre is a great option for gym, swimming and others things to keep fit. Soft play area for kids is great, but there is a charging fee. Staff is friendly and helpful, if you got any issues it is easy to address via email and management will reply to you. Overall, highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Great experience. We had a private birthday party. And I can say it was great. Everything is in place, a clean and safe environment. Toilets for kids and adults, hot coffee and tea. Great and welcome staff members. There are 2 little riding machines that kids can sit on, payable by contactless payment. A high, but safe soft play, climb, 2 slides, one short, one long, and a ball pit. Small round tables with chairs.
Positive experience: It's a shame that there are a few swimming instructors that don't take their job nor the safety of their pupils seriously... I've observed instructors who are meant to be teaching young ones swim, standing around talking and leaving their students unattended. In about a month of a family member learning to swim, today was the first time that an instructor actually entered the pool to properly support the learners. My family member actually learnt to swim on his back. He was so excited and said this was his best lesson..... This is definitely the treatment the children should get when parents are paying for lessons....Wish I knew her name!!! You earned them one more star!!
Negative experience: I will share my experiences when somebody either at the gym or head office addresses mine and a few others complaint a month ago.
Fantastic experience: Nice gym Everything is tidy and clean Have a lot of equipment to use
Positive experience: Gym had a welcome upgrade but still lacks basic equipment like a incline/ decline bench, regular equipment breakdowns that takes months to repair. (Plus changing rooms are sub par). Observed staff not paying any attention who walks in without a pass makes it a security issue!! (Especially swimming pool changing rooms which is gross and packed with kids). Much prefer if they split adults and kids swimming times to make it more pleasant, safer.
Negative experience: I am deeply disappointed by the current state of maintenance at this Leisure Centre. The scene that greeted me upon arrival was disheartening – overflowing bins both at the entrance and behind the leisure centre, creating an unsightly and unhygienic environment. What's even more concerning is that these poorly managed waste bins are located in an area frequented by children. The presence of flies buzzing around due to the overflowing bins poses a health hazard and a potential safety concern for those using the facilities. It's disheartening to witness such negligence in maintaining a space meant for leisure and recreation. I strongly urge the management to address these issues promptly. Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene is essential not only for the well-being of the visitors but also for creating a positive and inviting atmosphere. I hope that my feedback is taken seriously, and steps are taken to rectify the situation
Positive experience: The facilities themselves are good and the staff are helpful. My issue was hygiene. We went swimming and there were people in outdoor shoes all around the pool and pushchairs in the shower area (there is signage to say don't do that but it is ignored) and people fully clothed in the pool. I understand some people prefer to cover up but there are water clothes you can buy that are the correct material.
Positive experience: Some good quality equipment. Staff need to clean around the gym. There are spider webs in places which has not been touched for months, a bit of TLC would help improve the gums condition. Always very busy.
Negative experience: I'm not one to write reviews unless the experience has been exceptional or utterly diabolical. This place and its manangement team fit in to the latter. Like many before me have commented, the changing room are perpetually in a poor state and appropriate standards are not being maintained. When I attended on the 18th and 19th July to take my 6 month twins swimming (one on either day), the temperature of teaching pool was colder than the main pool. We are left nursing to very ill babies whilst writing this. I have never known teaching pools to be this cold and for babies to be allowed to enter, this is a breach of UK STA standards, which state that teaching pools should be at least 30 degrees in temperature. Either close the pool or put the temperature to the right levels. Im sure im not the only parent dissatisfied with the teaching pool temperature. Also the showers are all cold and no notice has been put up, so we were in for a ice surprise. To top it all, I went to the virtual rpm class in the evening at 8.30pm, to find that it was not on. Again no notice was put up on the door and app still allowed you to book the class. I managed to find a gym instructor who told me the virtual rpm has not been working for the past week. Whilst the rates are reasonable and facilities are good, management need to up their game and understand that the centre is not free and we are all paying our hard earned many for a very poor service in return. Were it a private gym rather than a leisure centre, I'm sure such poor service standards would not be tolerated. The experience has been infuriating and I'll be taking it further.
Negative experience: Used to take my son swimming but he no longer wants to go as the changing rooms in the gym are appalling. There is always the same sinister old man who’s always naked and looking at my son. I confronted him several times and he just smirks. I sincerely hope the gym looks into this. Why is the gym changing rooms not monitored? Absolutely disgraceful the lack of safety this gym has for its members.
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting, very dirty, smelly, bad customer service and management are clueless. Some of the male teachers are rude and arrogant. Not good value for money. I would not recommend this place. It's a Waste of money.
Negative experience: Whilst in the gym, my girlfriend and many other female friends have told me about an instance of one of the cleaners loitering inside the girls changing room on his phone staring at changing women. This individual worker is a junior cleaner who usually mops the floor and does janitor duties, who is white and short with brown curly hair and looks sleazy (kind of like a sloth). His actions are absolutely appalling and it is a shocking surprise that such an individual has managed to stay employed in this facility. This individual makes this gym a dangerous place, they need to be named and shamed as well as sacked. I have never seen this person ever in the mens changing room, he must prefer the women’s room. This needs to be sorted out.
Negative experience: Receptionist never answer the phone. It's a nightmare! They need to recruit more people for customer service. Also website could be improved so it's easy to navigate around.
Negative experience: Avoid this leisure centre at all costs. I signed up for a year and paid upfront only for them to change their admission rules after 6 months and insist I pay a supplement every time I attend. Unbelievably dishonest. I will never return!
Negative experience: This gym is so dodgy they steal money from you buy upping g their prices even tho you have a fixed contract stating that you only pay a certain amount and yet they still take extra money and when you conplace about it no manager is there every time you go there so they always say sorry we can't help you the manager isn't here they are full of excuses and it's wrong to do what they are doing there are much better gyms my advice stay clear dont make the same mistake I did
Negative experience: Shocking customer service. Never pick up the phone so have to go into the gym if you ever have a query, and they still can’t help. Also the receptionist is rude.
Positive experience: Have there the children in the swimming class, and they really enjoyed it. However, the management has some issues to deal with as things can go really complicated if they have to deal with small tasks.
Negative experience: Went for a swimming session. Disgusting showers and changing rooms that look like they have never been cleaned. Guests that are not swimming loiter around in the changing room which makes you really feel uncomfortable. Booked a session where there weren’t many people on it, to go and find the swimming pool packed like a can of sardines. Pool water cold, doubt any chlorine was in it. Makes me think if they ever changed the water out. Worst looked after leisure centre.
Negative experience: Take my daughter there for swimming lessons. The lessons itself it fine but the fact that there are so many paid members yet the facility is not cleaned throughout the day is absolutely disgusting. Literally smelt of urine and you can see visible dirt all over the floor.
Positive experience: I took my kids here for swimming lessons and whilst the swimming teachers are good and know what they are doing, the facility was packed full of people and not very clean the showers were visibly dirty with my little ones scurrying around running from bugs whilst trying to have a shower after swimming. Then they both made comments around the litter that seemed to be dotted all over the changing rooms. This facility will benefit from additional cleaning staff and people also not littering the place and using the clearly labelled bins provided. Also, having less children in each of the classes they run as that will mean less people using the facilities at the same time and allow a bit more time in-between the classes for the cleaning staff to be able to sort out the facility prior to the next set needing them.
Negative experience: Great gym and equipment, and sessions but recently tried to book for Jolly Jungle and found out that I couldn't logon to the membership app to book. Tried calling centre last week several times, no answer on the phone, tried emailing, and social on facebook and no response. Had to ask another parent to book my daughter in with hers, when I got down and asked the receptionist, turns out my email address was wiped off their system and when I spoke to Jolly Jungle, apparently it had also happened to another parent... Phone/Email support - don't rely on it as no one bothers to answer the phone, let alone email or social support on facebook. Quite bad.
Negative experience: I liken visiting this leisure Center to visiting a third world country, unbelievably dirty everywhere, full of rude selfish people (mainly customers) I taught my step daughter more about swimming during a 10 min pool session than they did in 5 30 minutes lessons. Visit at your own risk, recommend getting a hepatitis, typhoid and polio jab after just to be safe.
Negative experience: Had to cancel my daughters membership, when I had a chance of seeing what sort of place this is. ITS DISGUSTING, DIRTY, ALWAYS OVERCROWDED and you charge £35 a month for 4 30min swimming lessons? Never again. AVOID! Cancelled direct debit, as managed to teach my daughter how to swim in an hour. When these joke of teachers couldn’t get her to put her face in water. Pathetic. Never again.
Fantastic experience: Good gym, I’ve been going since December and always equipment available unlike the franchise the gym group around the corner
Negative experience: I would have given below 0, only the swimming instructor seems OK. Today boy puked in the water. I was probably the only witness of the very moment (watching from the top). The aftermath was quickly spotted by his swimming instructor. Bits were floating every direction but nothing has been done. Not even other groups have been notified!!! Disgusting pool full of ignorants. Rip off and filth!!!
Negative experience: I am going here with my daughter for more than a year now. The place is filly. The centre staff is responsible to clean the car park, but they are not bothered. It looks like a dump yard, specially towards Morrisons. I have seen the same bits of fly tip, in the same spots for more than a year. Inside, the lockers area is very dirty sometimes, even if I had learnt they have a cleaner on site all the time. The floor is wet all the time. I had seen a teacher who fell because of it and nearly broke her arm. The managers are not bothered about anything. They never give a deep clean to the changing cubicles, they are very dirty in places. Unfortunately, I haven't got any other chance to take my daughter for swimming lessons.
Negative experience: Trying to end membership singe 6 months. Still bot cancelled. Why is it so easy to start a membership and if you want to cancel you have no options than going to your bank.
Positive experience: Better than rest of everyone active centres in Romford and Hornchurch, at least staff is polite especially in the gym where I really like equipment and space too ! I think it’s got a diverse clientele and they manage it well ! Needs a saun steam and jacuzzi ! Pool is quite large and good
Negative experience: Really bad customer service. I wanted to cancel my lesson because I was unwell, but they didn't let me. I asked to speak to the manager and they put me on hold, then 'the manager' started speaking acting like he could not hear me. Colleagues were laughing in the background and wasted my time. The manager did not apologise and just hung up on me. The lessons themselves are usually quite crowded, you cannot even get to swim properly. I strongly recommend that you don't book lessons here. They need to sort themselves out.
Negative experience: The swimming area is appalling. It seems the floors are never cleaned, the changing spaces are filthy. And sometimes they don’t have hot water for the showers. Swimming lessons get cancelled without any notification.
Negative experience: I signed up online for the swimming pool and gym, instead of the bundle price I got charged separately. When I realised several months later they refused to refund me the extra amount I was charged. Other than that, they gym and the swimming pool are ok (far from great) although they could be cleaner.
Negative experience: Budget gym with a price that doesn't match. This was a lovely center a few years ago, the machines are not updated and are rusty now. Often broken. You will have an inconsistent workout routine. Really disappointing. The overall layout of the gym is WRONG. Everyone Active needs to think about its members and competition. You can get this standard for much less a month.
Negative experience: Swimming pool and all facilities are filthy. There's an out of order toilets area where feces are festering for the last six months at least!
Fantastic experience: Always clean, staff always friendly and helpful.. gym has all the equipment you could possibly need and a swimming pool which is well maintained.
Negative experience: Been going to Basildon EA for a few months now. The equipment is clean and makes sense with the layout. It’s bright and welcoming. Upon coming to Becontree today it’s dark and dingy, it’s hard to work out how they’ve set the machines up. I wanted to do some legs on the cable machine. There was only one ankle strap (Basildon usually has about 6 to choose from). I had to ask someone to help me find one and they couldn’t. Following this I had some unnecessary comments from some of the men like just use one, why are you fussing; I said it’s a lot longer as you constantly have to keep swapping. Upon using the cable machine I noticed that it is covered in rust. Surely they should be keeping the standards up across all EA’s? I will be using this as my main gym as I’ll be coming to this area for work and it’s actually made me rethink my membership here.
Negative experience: Gone to shi7. Only one hour swimming for a shi7 load of money. Out to rip you off using old covid rules as an excuse. Mayfield is cheaper
Negative experience: After finishing the GCSE exams, I send my son to use gym facilities for his health concerns. He used to go on his bicycle. Its only a week and today his locked bicycle has been stolen in front of the office/staff eyes. If someone stealing the locked bicycle, breaking the lock, they should stop the thieves. He asked for help from the staff, who simply take off the responsibilities and ask him to call police. He reported the matter to police and do not know whether he will get it back or not. The gym authorities to make the fool proof arrangements so the next bicycle from other attendant should not be stolen.
