Everyone Active in Romford is a community-focused leisure centre that aims to provide a welcoming environment for fitness enthusiasts. The gym facilities have recently undergone a refurbishment, showcasing a wide array of modern equipment suitable for all fitness levels. Users appreciate the spaciousness of the gym which allows for diverse workouts and has noted the friendly and supportive staff.
Some highlights from visitor experiences include:
- Excellent for health: Many users recognize the centre as a great space for the local community to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- Clean and modern: The recent upgrades have significantly improved the gym's appearance and equipment quality.
- Access to amenities: The centre features a swimming pool, sauna, and various classes which are well-received, adding to the overall value for membership.
- Parking Availability: There is ample free parking, which is a convenient aspect for visitors.
However, there are areas that need improvement:
- Maintenance Issues: Some users have reported concerns over cleanliness and maintenance in changing rooms and other facilities.
- Overcrowding: At peak hours, the gym can become overly crowded, making it challenging to access equipment.
- Customer Service: A number of reviews point to inconsistent customer service, with some staff members not meeting expectations.
- Swimming Schedule: Limitations on swimming lanes and times have been highlighted as needing attention.
In summary, Everyone Active offers a solid fitness experience with friendly staff and good facilities, but it is vital to address the maintenance and customer service issues to enhance member satisfaction.
Everyone Active: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Nice chill evening
Positive experience: Swimming area changing rooms grubby and in desperate need of a clean
Negative experience: The gym equipment is decent, changing rooms are average/below average. However, if you need to use the gym at peak times, I would go else where. This place is clearly way over the maximum amount of members. Leaving you barely being able to use any machine.
Fantastic experience: Excellent place for being healthy for local community.
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym, went to couple of branches, everything is on highest level
Positive experience: I only used swimming. Free parking....never had to wait for the changing room as in Sapphire. Not as swanky. But I don't mind.
Fantastic experience: Nice workout, friendly gym.
Fantastic experience: I have been at this gym for a few years now, I recently signed up to PT sessions with Jake Hammatt, anyone considering taking up a PT must first try a trial session with him, I can guarantee you will not regret it. Not only do you receive the knowledge in dietary but also the correct method to workout with maximum results. My confidence in going to the gym has increased as the results so far a visible. He has also helped me with Anxiety issues, Jake has become my stress buster but most importantly a great friend as well. If you don't believe try a session
Negative experience: Absolutely shocking customer service. Young kids running the place with the wrong attitude
Fantastic experience: Ok
Negative experience: On the website says 8-21pm at weekends. If you go train in the gym after 8pm they tell you its gonna close. During the week its 6-22 but you can stay at the gym until 22. So during the week you can stay until closing. During weekends you're not allowed. This need to be rectified and it's not correct. I'm paying to use the facilities until a certain time and 1 hour is being taken off!!
Fantastic experience: This gym is lovely, it has had a makeover and looks great. There is plenty of equipment and staff on hand for advice. The classes are good too.
Negative experience: If I could, I will give this leisure centre zero star, first of all it’s rubbish, changing room stinks of urine. The swimming pool stinks of urine the whole leisure centre looks like it needs deep cleaning. I don’t even think anyone cleans the leisure centre I’ve never seen anyone go to the changing room and clean it. The place looks really tired, the whole leisure centre needs doing up. All they care about Is taking people’s money. I’m getting tired of the classes, it’s the same boring music playing all the time and the gym instructors they look tired and fed up. They need to get some young people. The only reason I’m going to this leisure centre it’s because it’s close.
Fantastic experience: Ok
Positive experience: Can someone please update the gym opening and closing times please. Says 9pm on a Sunday. I turned up at 8pm and was told the gym closes at 8. Not good as I took a pre workout
Fantastic experience: Located inside busy leisure centre. Large carpark that has CCTV. The only time you struggle to park is when parents from boxing club nearby park here. Gym has equipment to suit all ages and fitness levels
Negative experience: This gym is disgusting in the wellness center. Inside the steam room there is live maggots. 100s I made a video and put it on Instagram tagging the company and it got removed. Poor hygiene. It has the potential to be a good gym
Positive experience: Member here. Good facilities all has been refurbished. Not keen on the lack of swimming lanes and times available. Gym is big and has everything you need. Toilets cleaned. Sauna, steam and jacuzzi too. Overall decent equipment and friendly staff. There has been a few times over the past few months that no one has been there to open the gym, this is obviously a hic cup in service provision but for such a large establishment they should have a back up plan.
Positive experience: The gym has just been refurbished, however the swimming pools are dirty and spa, Jacuzzi often out of order.
Negative experience: I decided to revisit this leisure centre on the 1st of April 2024. Upon entering the gym there was one Everyone Active staff member working who was sat with his head down on his mobile phone, an 1.5hrs later he was in the same position, never mind that the equipment was dirty, no paper towels in some machines or no liquid cleaner. Staff were regularly on their mobiles, i pads, or even laptops, and staff sat in the staff office, leaving the gym unstaffed or downstairs talking to reception. I was using the RPM studio to do the virtual classes. There was a notice from the manager informing members that the studio would not be open until 5mins prior to the class starting, in the 7 weeks of using the studio 3 times a week only 4 times was that studio open on time. Staff made it difficult by opening just as the class was starting or even late and expected members to accept that. What was annoying I had taken the time to book the class online, tap in at reception and tap in again at the gym but was told they needed to know who was in which didn't make sense why bother booking a vlaas in advance tap in twice yet they still need to know who is in. If the staff bothered to lift their heads from their personal digital equipment and look at the monitor that Everyone Active supplies for staff to see who us in the gym they would see and have the information needed. I joined this leisure centre when it opened in 2018, which had amazing staff all the way through the centre, I couldn't praise the staff enough. I'm saddened at how quickly this centre has changed and not for the better. From staff that can't be bothered, staff that are rude to members and a gym manager who doesn't care that her staff are not applying themselves whilst being paid from Everyone Active. The centre manager is also rude. I was so frustrated with the terrible service and the gym manager's lack of acknowledgement with what was happening not only did I send a complaint in I decided to cancel my membership with Everyone Active and take my business else where. Not only have they lost a member but also a Personal Training client as well. Senior management need to give this centre a good shake-up. No wonder why members are going somewhere else. My advice would be sadly to think twice before joining Sapphire in Romford.
Negative experience: Had a notification (via the app) that the pool was temporarily closed this morning due to technical issues. I was planning to take my excited 3year-old swimming at midday and have already pre-booked and paid for this. No one is answering the phone and I've tried calling for hours, I've also sent an "enquiry" via their app. Short of going down there, I don't know how to get hold of anyone!!
Fantastic experience: Welcoming, friendly staff and patrons. Great for a full workout. Excellent gymnasium and indoor pool. I can highly recommend this place.
Positive experience: No bad but is still a space for improvement
Negative experience: This gym is shockingly bad . Constantly have to book the spa and never get a space you finally get one and there 5x the people that are meant to be there can’t use nothing and staff don’t care at all . Front desk is always miserable . The place literally stinks in changing rooms etc . And they’ve let in so many people now through greed that you can go anytime- any day and it’s cues for everything .there is definetly no cap on members they will keep taking them no questions asked even though they know they can’t cope with existing member . Pay the extra money go elsewhere I advise . Oh and did I mention miserable front desk ! Cancelling my membership as soon as I can get to my bank not quick enough
Fantastic experience: All New kit great facilities..
Fantastic experience: Great teaching Jane Hatwell
Fantastic experience: Such a lovely clean gym, staff are friendly
Positive experience: It's a decent gym for the membership cost, but that means from 5pm - 9pm every day it's stupidly busy. You basically have to base your workout on what equipment is available, whilst someone asks you how many sets you have left every 5 minutes. After a years membership I'll be changing gyms
Fantastic experience: Nice gym. Do fight klub there. Clean gym & staff are polite & friendly
Negative experience: Appalling customer service. Front desk staff are unresponsive and management uncontactable except, they claim, through a useless 'app.'
Negative experience: Health suite is dirty maggots in the steam room, jacuzzi is cold, showers in the mens changing rooms are cold, the manager doesn't do anything about the complaints, he is about as much use as a chocolate fire guard
Negative experience: Dirty needs sorting
Negative experience: Dated gym, dirty, looks like it needs a good refurbishment. Air conditioning not working in hot weather. Machines are often broken and left broken. Managed by children who have no concept of customer care. Its cheap and its cheap for a reason.
Negative experience: Disgraceful, no morals or self respect with few females wearing disgraceful outfit bearing too much.. Need stric rules and regulations back.
Negative experience: I feel like I’m Going into school are you receptionist or bouncers We get charged for not going to classes I have mental health I need positivity not negative people you seriously need to look at this gym ! We are paying monthly which means we should be free?!!?? If you drive avoid at all costs
Fantastic experience: Went there to support my tenant. Staff brilliant
Positive experience: Great Facility
Negative experience: There seems to be little or no maintenance in this branch. This is the current state of the male toilets. Showers are leaking from pipes, screws exposed in the bathrooms and taps falling off sinks. I have messaged on most social media platforms but there doesn't seem to be any accountability here for customer service and health and safety standards. Very disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Big and spacious and you can have a sauna and steam to chill after. Staff on the reception are welcoming and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Love taking my son swimming there he absolutely loves it!
Positive experience: Love this gym! Staff are always helpful and friendly and all the equipment is looked after as well. Everyone who uses the equipment cleans up after themselves. I just always feel very comfortable when using the facilities here. The swimming pool is clean and a nice size, they have a kids pool. I would recommend this place.
Fantastic experience: My local gym of choice: Competitive membership prices, access to gym, pool, classes and other facilities. Large gym area with plenty of treadmills, cable machines and free weights. Staff are friendly and helpful. What I like very much here is that no one is trying to force their 'personal training' onto people. Those who opt in to use personal training are getting their value for money because unlike in many other gyms trainers are knowledgeable and fit enough to lead by example. There are also various classes to choose from. There are swimming classes for people of different ages too. Overall, it's a decent leisure centre with good staff and a nice, friendly atmosphere. Gym goers, despite their menacing looks are friendly and approachable too. Hope this helps someone.
Negative experience: This centre expect you to pay £4 for missing a class, even when you are pay as you go!!!
Positive experience: A nice sports centre. I went there for badminton, have good number of courts and rates are better. There’s ample parking too.
Fantastic experience: I like the central park centre and the staff are very friendly.
Negative experience: If you are joining for the health suite do not bother. The jacuzzi has only operated fully for one week in the last 3 months. It has either been totally inoperable or water not heated. ALL with the same excuses (new pump, spare part, awaiting engineer who is apparently the only engineer in the country who could fix). Same with the showers. So old that only one engineer in the country had the parts and experience to fix. The drains smell of fish because they are not thoroughly cleaned. So much so that there are small slug like creatures coming out of the drainage in the steam room. The swimming pool also too cold because of antiquated boilers apparently. Other problems like there being not enough lockers because too many people are allowed in the gym at any one time are also an issue but for me the healthy suite (what a joke that is) is the main problem. And I am expecting this review to go straight in the bin, like I have been told by others have been.
Fantastic experience: Great Gym, pool and classes - friendly atmosphere and good value for money.
Negative experience: Staff are unhelpful, indifferent and rude.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place...
Negative experience: The most awful gym I’ve ever been.. The manager Sarah or what ever her name is.. Is the rudest human I’ve ever came across.. Two to three of the staffs at the gym are amazing ( Suzan, Becky, and one other male one) the rest are nothing to write home about. The gym is disgusting, female toilet smells like someone died there for years.. there’s only two toilet in the female toilet and it’s never cleaned or washed. I have never seen a cleaner at that gym. Don’t get me started on the swimming pool!! FIX UP EVERYONE ACTIVE HAROLD HILL!!!
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, great facilities to work out.
Fantastic experience: Just wish the health spa was open
Fantastic experience: Very clean, well organised felt safe throughout my visit, will be going more frequently
Negative experience: Such an upsetting experience. Signed up for the "training pass" £6.50.....took 2 minutes to get through the queue another 5 to find the changing room obviously you need to warm up as well. Hardly any time to train and to come back to the building for another "50 minutes " they charge another £6.50.....Ridiculous....
Negative experience: Awful customer service. I requested for my account to be frozen before the official shut down and on reopening, unfreeze and started charging me again. Tried called Harold Wood branch to discuss, they never answer and contacted via website and still very unhelpful. The gym is a con, just want your money, do not care about their members or their wishes. Also not very clean either! Avoid!
Fantastic experience: They've done well to keep almost all the capacity that they had before. Gym is done in 50 minute slots and there is sanitiser available and tissues.
Negative experience: Really disappointed, advertises that it is open until 9:30 on a Sunday and when I’ve been multiple times in the past the gyms stayed open until 9 AT LEAST. But I show up today at 7:45 just to be told I’ve only got 15 mins then the gyms closing. Why advertise 9:30 if you’re not going to stick to it ? I know that the building is open a lot later then 9:30 because a friend plays ice hockey there on a Sunday. Extremely disappointed and false advertising. Won’t be returning.
Negative experience: This gym is a rip of and so crowded!
Positive experience: Can get crowded at times. Treadmill and gym equipment need updating, considering other fitness centres are drawing in new members
Fantastic experience: Nice
Fantastic experience: Very good sized gym compaired to all the other everyone active gyms ive been to in havering. Nice selection of machines, plenty of weights and good changing rooms with shower facilities. Swimming pool nice and clean. Sauna and steam room adequate size. Havnt had any problems with staff personally so cant grumble. For what you pay a month compaired to other gyms, that are double the price!, what more do you want??
Positive experience: I feel like I need to do two reviews here in order to justify my rating. Generally I think this place is great. Friendly staff, great facilities, and good location. The first ever gym that I’ve actually stuck with, after years of sacking them off. Very relaxed and welcoming. But... Swimming lessons for kids. It would be unfair to say that my daughter didn’t learn anything in the six month period she did them, but her progress was severely hampered by overcrowded groups, constantly changing of tutors, and just not enough time in the pool itself. I’d say for half of it she stood on the side and shivered. Disruptive pupils didn’t help, but I’m guessing that the fact they were paying money, meant the tutors didn’t want to say anything to them or their parents about their behaviour. So I’m giving it three stars instead of four or five.
Negative experience: Guys please don't go to the gym membership team specially manager name Craig who will never explain and will take the payment from your account without your knowledge And it's a ball ache to get it back Hope this help
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Positive experience: Yesterday I was at the centre and overheard two guys who worked there saying the filter in the spa area had not been cleaned in a decade... Apart from that delightful revelation, the gym is great, loads of equipment and the changing rooms are passably clean. The swimming pool is nice, although far too much time & too much room is given over to schools for lessons and clubs, meaning there are barely any slots when you can get a swim in! Swim4Fitness is only very early in the morning or midday, which isn't great when you work full time. Wednesday evenings the entire pool is taken over by clubs - what do I pay £40+ a month for if I can't use the pool?!
Positive experience: After renew, gym equipment is great. Reception staff isn’t very welcoming and gym changing room dirty often, doesn’t seem to have cleaning staff.
Negative experience: Staff are not polite and helpful!
Positive experience: Good place for working out
Fantastic experience: good swim love the health suite
Fantastic experience: Recently upgraded excellent state of the art gym facilities and great hardworking friendly staff. Wonderful experiences!
Positive experience: All that you need anuff said
Negative experience: Don't waste your money on their swimming lessons. Overcrowded classes, constant change over of teachers. Absolutely nobody is interested if you try to complain or question them. Very poor.
Positive experience: Superb
Positive experience: Swimming pool changing rooms could use an overhaul but otherwise great centre with brilliant classes and facilities. Kids parties are awesome too!
Positive experience: Good facilities, nice staff
