YMCA Surbiton, YMCA St Paul's Group: Opinions
Negative experience: Tried to contact them today as i am trying to learn some details regarding the contract. The srcretary was rude to me and sounded bored while chatting through the phone. She transfered me to another line but nobody picked up. I called them second time and again they were rude to me. Didn't manage to learn anything. Please let them know that people are paying to join their gym!! To anybody who wants to join and would like to learn more details, phone call is not a solution!!
Negative experience: Staff are not attentive at all. Sauna opening hours are 9-12. I went to the desk at 9:30 and asked the lady behind the desk to turn it on. She took her time talking to another client for 10 minutes and then put the sauna on with no apologies.
Positive experience: Good little gym. Cardio area is usually pretty empty but the weight machines and free weight area can get pretty busy. Ladies has a Sauna (don't know about the Mens).
Positive experience: I have recently joined the gym as I was curious due to some adverts pop in quite often on my Facebook timeline and because is walking distance from where I live . First impression: not great, the receptionist was not very friendly at all, no greeting, no good night, no thank you . When I mentioned that I was interested to join the gym, she just say I should do online, in the end after I insisted, I made my subscription at the reception. In terms of classes, we should have more time slots, you supposed to book online, but is constantly full. Pros : great classes instructors (when you are lucky to get a place) Cons : Basic training in customer services for the front of house receptionist. I believe a robot could do a better job than her. If the person doesn't have customer service skills, shouldn't be working with the public.
Negative experience: I've been living there after leaving a hospital. Stinky small room for £220/week. Council was paying and agent was suggesting living in controlled enviroment for a while, so I took it. Spent two years looking for a flat. At the end, guru Emil Macau informed that tenase ceased, beautiful Camille Anderson forgot to mention that council hadn't been paying for a year and French portier has been lying every week, when I was paying, that there's no any debt. Got billed for £1500 and sent on street. Mafia. Stay away. Been months till I got up.
Negative experience: Staying at the YMCA in surbiton, the guy next door is smoking crack every 30mins throughout the night and the smoke is going into my room. Spoke to 3 case workers here and they won't do anything! I'm paying over 1000 pounds a month on housing benefits to breathe crack smoke while I've got cancer and homeless. I hate YMCA place.
Negative experience: Pretty standard Gym however it is overpriced which they excuse by the inclusion of classes however there is no option to opt of the classes if you have no interest. Reception staff seem pretty much disinterested and bored the majority of the time responding to questions with mostly “huh?”, “hmm..” and “erm..”. Apparently there are personal trainers available for for almost £50 an hour I would honestly just go on YouTube for exorcise/workout tips and for dietary advice Google offers free detailed workbooks, programmes and your Doctor can also give personal advice based on your age, weight, dietary requirements ect. All in all after seeing no improvements over the years it’s hard to see where all the profit gets spent on because new equipment, facilities, staff training and technology seem sub-par.
Dear Remy, We are sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the YMCA Surbiton especially as you mention you have been a regular custom over the years. In regards to pricing we have a range of memberships available and we aim to be competitively priced. The YMCA is a non- profit organisation so money from the gym income goes in to community based projects. We maintain the gym on a regular basis and update equipment. We do have personal training services available for £35.00 per hour or block sessions which work out more cost effectively. Many people who use this service find it to be very beneficial to their training programme and it helps them to gain the results they desire. We are continuing to look at ways that technology can improve our service and make changes where possible. Thank you for taking the time to review the YMCA Gym Surbiton and for your custom. If you do have any concerns or issues please do get in contact with me – Vladena Jarosova – Gym Manager – Tel –020 8339 7083. Kind regards
Positive experience: Nice gym
Thanks!
Positive experience: Great facilities....including Sauna. Personal trainers very knowledgeable, courteous and experienced. Would be great if membership was not inclusive of all classes as some of us just want to use the GYM. MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. Option will create more clientele. Way too expensive!! People for places gym £18.99 per month!!!
Dear Kimberley, thank you for your positive feedback. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoy using our facilities. Feedback on the instructors’ performance is much appreciated. We understand that you might find our fees a bit more expensive in comparison to other gyms in the area. However, this is due to the inclusivity of the services we provide. We review our prices regularly. We appreciate your feedback and taking it into consideration. Thank you for your custom.
Positive experience: Drop off guides
Negative experience: Worst gym and centre I’ve ever been to. The staff are extremely rude and the trainers upstairs are awful. Most of the time their swanning around and don’t help anybody is someone asks. I got a temporary memebership to see what it was like and they always treat like they were doing me a favour every time I went in and out or even speak to them. And the locker rooms are horrendous. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I’d recommend going to one of the gyms in Kingston.
Dear Silver Snow Thank you for your feedback. We apologise for your dissatisfaction with the gym at YMCA Surbiton. We strive to deliver great health & wellbeing services for the community and we are surprised and disappointed at the review you have provided. I would appreciate it if you could contact me directly on 020 8339 7083 so I can discuss your feedback in more detail. Kind regards Vladena
Fantastic experience: Surprisingly good food, outstanding customer service. Nice place to hide with toddler on a rainy day. There is small but OK equipped play area, friendly staff, good enough coffee. Also children ballet and gimnastic classes run by professionals from local dance and gymnastics studios in affordable prices.
Fantastic experience: Lovely food, lovely service great environment
Positive experience: High tea. Not bad!
Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym. Clean and extensive.
Positive experience: Pros: Well equipped, clean and good location. Cons: Doesn't have a swimming pool, slightly overpriced
Positive experience: Good range of equipment, bit cramped at busy periods though.
Positive experience: Nice :)
Positive experience: Good prices, but upkeep needs alot of work. Gets crowded after 6pm early week.
Fantastic experience: great range if facilities for the local community. The gym is very reasonable and has nice classes.
Negative experience: I lived there it's useless
Fantastic experience: Brilliant helps people whoever you are
Negative experience: I am a member of this gym as it is close to work. I have decided to terminate my subscription as the hygiene is unacceptable and the gym too smelly and dirty. Nothing has changed in months despite the several complains to receptions. - The steam room is a tiny hole and has got a constant carpet of fluff of pubic hair on the floor. See the images attached. They are taking on different days. Nothing has changed in months we have been there. - The soap containers often are filled, by sick customers, with body-fluids (you can imagine which ones). - One of the girls at receptions, when we pointed out the steam room in the male area was filthy, replied "I can't get in there right now, but we know that. I have been told it also smells of sweat and dump, right?". they know it and they do nothing. - Air conditioning is always extremely low and both when you work out or shower you have a cold, constant draft hitting you. There is no way to change it and it's very unpleasant and unhealthy, especially when you are sweating. - The rooms for Yoga and Body Pump are poorly heated and we were asked to wear jumpers and jackets to warm up. The Yoga class becomes a survival exercise when at the end you stop and relax and start shivering instead of enjoying the relaxation. - The rooms for Classes are used during the day by kids to play and by elderly people and therefore you have your Yoga session on a dirty floor and with toys, chairs and other items scattered and piled up around you. Definitely no atmosphere in there. You feel like you are at secondary school gym lesson. It's a third world environment and I am surprised hygiene inspectors are fine with this place. Have they actually ever been? The hygiene at this gym has become a matter of laughter with friends and coworker that had used the same gym. The images talks more than any word. I can't understand why they think it is acceptable to have such a unhealthy environment and why they keep ignoring members comments. It' would be so easy to keep such a small place tidy and clean.
Hello Alessio, we're deeply disappointed that you have found our gym's hygiene levels unsatisfactory. This has been rectified. Referring to the soap containers, it's much more likely that is was soap with water rather than anything bodily. Our gym goers are very respectful people. I think you have visited when we were transitioning between an in house team and a cleaning agency. I can assure you that our cleaning standards are very high.
Positive experience: Nice and big
Positive experience: Good
Fantastic experience: Recently moved to the area and this gym open s the earliest. Very good gym and friendly staff
Negative experience: I had a terrible experience trying to visit this club. I was new in town and just wanted to try/ checkout the gym to see if I would like it. The staff was not friendly or helpful at all for that matter. I asked to do a drop in and they would not let me see the gym, asked that I pay £6.50 to just look around. The manager wasn't there (conveniently) and he did not help me get set up either and he told me that they don't do drop ins (very unorganized they told me 2 separate answers), And how are you supposed to sign up if you can't try out the gym first? I am a personal trainer and I have worked at over 5 different gym clubs in the past and this would never happen at any of the clubs I have worked at. Very unimpressed with this club and I do not recommend joining YMCA. Unprofessional.
Fantastic experience: My new gym. Close to home. Staff are friendly and the gym is clean...
Positive experience: Fantastic gym in the centre of Surbiton. I visited for a day only. It has lots of free weights machines although not enough benches. Good selection of cardio machines.
Fantastic experience: The YMCA in Surbiton is a great place to go if you are looking for somewhere with good food and drinks for very reasonable prices, lots of space for babies / buggies and very friendly staff. There is a play area for toddlers and lots of high chairs available. Enjoying my time there, every time I go. Would highly recommend.
Negative experience: Very rude receptionist Already bought a 4 month membership thinking that the price was good. Wish they charged a wee bit higher and employed better staff.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, fantastic instructors.
