Our comment from FitFit UK about Wilmslow Leisure Centre:
Wilmslow Leisure Centre is a modern and expansive facility in the heart of Wilmslow, United Kingdom. It boasts a well-equipped gym with new machines, allowing users to enjoy a solid workout experience. Many users praise the friendly and helpful staff who contribute positively to the overall atmosphere of the centre.
Key features of the centre include:
- Spacious gym with a variety of equipment.
- Great swimming facilities with a 25m pool.
- Friendly staff and instructors who are approachable and considerate.
- A good selection of fitness classes available for different interests.
- Convenient location with free parking for members.
However, there are some areas needing improvement:
- Unsanctioned children often visit, leading to safety concerns and disruptions in the gym.
- Parking can be challenging during events, resulting in a fee for nearby parking lots.
- Initial reception interactions can be unwelcoming, with reports of staff not providing adequate assistance.
- Child changing facilities are criticized for safety issues and lack of cleanliness.
- Some areas of the centre, such as changing rooms and toilets, require urgent renovations and cleaning.
Despite these drawbacks, many members continue to return, emphasizing the potential Wilmslow Leisure Centre has. Enhancements in supervision and facility maintenance could elevate the user experience even further, making it a truly excellent leisure destination.

Wilmslow Leisure Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: Good modern gym
Positive experience: This is a small gym with one of each machine, decent equipment overall. However, a major issue is the presence of unsupervised children, who often come in groups and misuse the machines. This not only creates safety concerns for themselves but also poses a risk to other gym users. It can be disruptive and takes away from the overall experience. Another drawback is the parking situation. On days when the leisure centre hosts events, the gym’s parking becomes limited, forcing members to pay for the adjacent car park, an inconvenience that should be addressed. Overall, while the gym itself has potential, better supervision and improved parking arrangements would significantly enhance the experience.
Negative experience: Baby changing facilities in the mens are shocking and dangerous. Table looks like it’s from the 1950s. No strap meaning I couldn’t secure my baby whilst I got changed (extremely dangerous). No curtain… I had to keep one hand on my baby whilst I tried to get changed and dry, with no curtain this was a horrible experience. How much is a curtain? No nappy bin in sight of baby changing. Only 1 table meaning if 2 parents are there, then baby has to wait, wet and cold. Tiny area to put clothes/changing bag. Would appreciate a response as I’m sure a lot of this isn’t legal in 2025.
Fantastic experience: The gym is sick I can just go there after school bash out a workout and leave with no hastle. The staff are hella relaxed and put alot of effort into making sure the gym is a solid place.
Negative experience: They frequently place badminton bookings next to pickleball players. It makes playing badminton actively dangerous, because of the more-than-occasional players stumbling into other people's court or having to skip over rogue plastic balls mid-rally. Surely common sense dictates that, if there are 2 sports being played in the same hall and there is a risk of equipment interfering with another, there should be a net curtain dividing the hall. Safety should be a top priority, and the current setup is a clear oversight that needs immediate attention.
Positive experience: I took my grandchildren to the pool this morning, they had a wonderful time. Well it was until the lifeguards changed and he stopped them having fun. The older lifeguards seem to know that children have to have fun or they don't enjoy swimming. The younger one just wanted to pose and be officious.
Hi James, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, please email us more information about your visit via [email protected] and we can best support you - Ellie :)
Fantastic experience: My husband and I have been members for over a year. He tends to use the gym which has been recently been refurbished and extended and I typically go to classes. As far as the gym goes it’s huge and superbly equipped and even when it gets busier at the weekend, there’s always plenty of equipment to use and advice on hand. I love the variety of classes and number of classes. The booking system is easy to use online and you can book a week ahead. The variety of classes and friendliness and experience of the majority of the instructors is excellent. I don’t think I’ve ever had a class cancelled if an instructor has unexpectedly been ill, for example. They’ve always seem to cover things. I can’t comment on the changing rooms or pool as we never use those. Parking is free for gym members and you can use any of the other everybody gyms once you become a member, except for Alderley Park which has a higher rating. In short, it’s an absolutely brilliant leisure centre and great value for money. It’s very convenient in terms of location. The only downsides are that parking can be especially busy on weekends when there are often things going on in the main hall and that for my particular interest, I could do with more Pilates classes, as the classes of around 30 literally tend to get booked up within a couple of hours of the class being released a week ahead.
Hi Leigh, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave Wilmslow Leisure Centre a review! It's lovely to hear you and your husband are enjoying everything the centre has to offer. - Ellie :)
Negative experience: The toilets in the swimming changing rooms can only be described as disgusting. I don't think they have been cleaned this week, the end toilet has had no toilet paper all week. They have steadily been getting worse, but today was the worse I've seen them. * 07/03. I went swimming today and was greatly impressed by the improvements of the changing room and toliets. It was obvious that it had been cleaned to an acceptable standard and I heard several people say how clean they looked. So thank you for taking my comments on board and for acting so quickly.
Hi Ann, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, I have just spoken to the site team regarding your comments and have been informed they are in contact with you. If you have any further comments please email us via [email protected] Thank you Ellie :)
Negative experience: Till card machines extremely slow. Bad smell in the changing rooms. Lots of broken locker locks. After half an hour my kids were told to get out of the pool, as there was a party. After paying the full fee, not impressed. Lack of clear timetables to hand.
Hi Heather, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we welcome all customer comments. For further support please email our customer experience team via [email protected] - Ellie :)
Positive experience: Decent range of service and a nice cafe but swimming pool changing rooms are in a worse state than Chernobyl
Negative experience: After being loyal members of Everybody gym for many year, neither me nor my family would have expected what we suffered today from the swimming management team in this branch. Poor management, misleading information, arrogant staff who laughed at a frustrated customer in front of her family. What a disgrace. We’ll never visit this branch again, but at least we do not need to suffer from the smelly changing room anymore.
Fantastic experience: Great new equipment and friendly, helpful staff. Reasonable prices for membership and swimming
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a 5* review! Were thrilled to hear you like the refurb of our gym! - Ellie :)
Negative experience: Love spin class, instructors are fantastic. The spin bikes are now dangerous, screens falling off or held on with cable ties or just black tape, bars wont hold up in locked position, pedals that just wont turn the rear wheel. Seats that go down when sat on. Its almost impossible to find one that works when its busy to the point instructors are giving up there bikes.WLC occasionally try to service these bikes badly. Its time to replace these not repair and make do. They are now DANGEROUS and somone is going to get hurt. Dont really expect a reply because didnt get anything back last time.
Hi Philip, thank you for taking the time to raise this issue with us. All the bikes in the studio have now been checked by staff and are suitable for use. Any bikes found to be below the expected performance of our equipment has been removed from use and have been reported to our maintenance contractor. Out-of-service bikes have been replaced where possible with other bikes. We are always looking to improve our facilities and the equipment within them and your comments have been noted with a view to possible further investment. If you have any further feedback please speak to a member of the duty management team or for remote support please contact [email protected]. Thanks, Ellie :)
Negative experience: Grotty changing rooms but they 'revamp' the gym all the time and make it worse than what it was before!
Fantastic experience: Really good. Quality gym with brand new expanded gym. Love the swimming lessons for kids Friendly staff.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a 5* review! - Ellie :)
Negative experience: Reception was very cold so I didn't bother asking about membership. Nearly £7 for a swim is quite pricey for what you're getting. Pool is poorly run with lane dividers that don't line up normally with the lane markers. Change room offers no private shower. No kickboards or buoys to use (that I could see.) Edit: By cold I meant the staff was unwelcoming.
Hello Christina, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we welcome and take on board all feedback. Following your review we will be monitoring the temperature in reception more closely. All our swim prices are standardised across all Everybody sites and are reviewed to ensure consistency with other pool operators in the UK, If you're planning to swim regularly taking out a membership would reduce your cost per visit :) Kickboards, buoys and other equipment aren't provided for public swims, however our fun swims do have this type of equipment. If you have any further feedback please get in contact with our support team at [email protected] so we can help improve customer experience. - Thank you Ellie :)
Fantastic experience: Nice clean busy leasure near the centre of Wilmslow with 25m pool, sports facilities and café with large car park
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a 5* review, we can't wait to welcome you back soon! :)
Positive experience: Booking line difficult to get through. Sports hall needs resurficing for playing badminton.

Fantastic experience:

Hello Lindsey! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a 5* review Were glad to hear your girls enjoyed their swim and can't wait to welcome you all back soon! - Ellie :)
Negative experience: Great new facilities and the staff are pretty friendly but I won't be returning to use the gym! The gym is pretty much a youth club at this point, loads of kids messing around on the equipment and congregating in large groups around machines. Absolutely no respect for other gym users as they are often rude and disrespectful for other gym members. The staff don't seem to care as they let them run wild, I will not be returning.
Hello, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review we welcome all feedback. We're happy to hear you are impressed with the facilities and our wonderful staff! - Ellie :)
Fantastic experience: Fantastic NEW gym, tons of space with 90 stations, and air-con!
Hi Paula, We're thrilled to hear you are impressed with our investment at Wilmslow leisure Centre! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review - Ellie :)

Positive experience: Great place for children's food and adults.
Hi Jude, Thank you for reviewing Wilmslow Leisure Centre! were glad you enjoyed your time in our Taste For Life Cafe :) - Thank you Ellie :)
Positive experience: The Cardiac Rehab was again led by our very capable instructor. We were 10 in number (in for appx. 40 mins) and a few of the general public. Even though younger equipment than some sports centres there is still not enough variation of equipment or space. Some people 'wipe down' equipment they have used but Not everyone. I have not come across the lavatorys on this upper floor.
Positive experience: Just need the parking machines sorting!!!
Negative experience: Parking payment is a joke and it is only getting worse
Negative experience: Nothing to be impressed about. Website has information from.....2020 !!. Changing rooms are roasting most of the time , so you're immediately uncomfortable when you arrive , and you're sweating AFTER you've had a shower ........and inconsiderate people are coming straight from the pool / shower and dripping everywhere......so people go to put their socks on , and get them wet because there is no dry space anywhere. The lockers are tiny....no room for a coat and gym bag. Various rooms are tired , and the place on the whole has a boring , un-inspiring feel. The whole centre basically needs a makeover , or at the least , a deep clean and re-painting. It has potential, but needs attention.
Fantastic experience: Nice place
Positive experience: Good productions in the theatre.
Fantastic experience: Super swimming pool. Great competitive swimming club.
Positive experience: Good facilities and good pools. The only real downside is there's no family changing and the baby changing facilities are limited. The showers can be extremely hot (or extremely cold) too if you go at a busy time.
Hello Carly, Wonderful to hear you enjoy the facilities at Wilmslow! We appreciate all feedback to help improve our customers experience! If you could please get in touch with us via [email protected] with more information on the issues you've raised so we can best help fix them. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review- Ellie :)
Fantastic experience: Excellent, lovely and clean with very pleasent, friendly and helpful staff. The family had a fantastic time.
Positive experience: Good pool, facilities a little outdated and no private showers in swimming area
Fantastic experience: Great
Positive experience: A good show.
Positive experience: Good pool , great cafe. a nice local leisure centre
Thanks for taking the time to review Wilmslow Leisure Centre, Penny. Appreciate you taking the time to do this. If there's any additional feedback to help us get to 5-stars let us know at [email protected]. Take care and hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Generally fine. Pool Temperature has been dropped a little over the last few weeks, will come back with five stars if you warm the pool up a bit
Thanks for your review, Lee. We'll see what can be done about the pool temperature...you've given us plenty of incentive, we love a 5-star review ;) Appreciate you taking the time to leave this feedback and glad you're having a good experience overall at Wilmslow Leisure Centre. Cheers, Liam
Positive experience: Lack of ventilation near swimming pool windows creates a very stuffy environment where germs can spread.
Hi Kelly, sorry to see your recent visit to us at Wilmslow Leisure Centre only met a 3-star rating. If you've got any additional feedback to help us improve your experience please drop us an email at [email protected]. Take care, Ellie

Fantastic experience: Lovely day at the antique and collectors fair. Refurbishment of the toilets was incomplete so was directed to alternatives. Friendly, helpful staff.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a 5* review! We can't wait to see you again soon! - Ellie :)
Fantastic experience: Fab, local swimming pool where both my boys have been taught to swim up to stage 7!
Thanks for your 5* review Deb and really appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback. Big congrats to your boys that's a great achievement! Hopefully we'll see you soon at Wilmslow LC.
Fantastic experience: awesome and accomodating staff!
Thanks for your 5* review Stuart. Appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback alongside the rating. Great to learn you enjoyed your time at Wilmslow LC and hopefully we'll see you again soon!
Positive experience: Very safe. If you go there for classes the machines and equipment is cleaned by the members when they finish using it and then again by members of the staff who come straight away after the class to moped the floors too. They all wear masks.
Thanks for your review Amaia, appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. Hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Clean and friendly, great staff and service
Thanks for your 5* review Heidi, really appreciate your kind words about the staff and service you received!
Fantastic experience: I recently had to book online, but couldnt log onto to pay. So phoned wilmslow where i wanted to go and waited onthe phone for bout 30 mins. But wen finally a lady answered called Chelsea couldnt have been more helpful helpful and friendly . Fabolulous people skills and sorted every thing out for wat i needed, shes a star . Thankyou again Chlsea.
Positive experience: Gym equipment does the job but is a little dated. Facilities were clean and well spaced Pleasant staff
Negative experience: Very run down and dirty, not sure when it was last cleaned! Many of the machines/equipment are out of order or broken and no one supervising.
Sorry to hear that you were not happy with our facility, can you please email us at [email protected] with more details and your contact, and we will ask the site manager to get in touch. thanks Ploy
Fantastic experience: Workers have worked very hard to reopen centre. Linsey is brilliant at first kettle excercise. She is amazingly helpful. Gym staff very good. Gym much better now with covid restrictions as laid over two rooms. Glad to be back thanks every one for all hard work.
Negative experience: Sam good
Fantastic experience: Wilmslow Leisure Centre is the home of Scarab Tri Club, and a great home it is too! We train on wednesdays in the pool, 8:30-10pm and run training meeting outside on tiesdays and thursdays from 6:30pm onwards with our sister club Wilmslow Striders.
Negative experience: Incompetent management awful systems / dreadful changing rooms / toilets STINK /
Negative experience: Pool is freezing for little ones! I’ve been to so many swimming pools in my life time but never have I ever been to one this cold and dirty! I have a toddler that I took to Hazel Grove leisure centre all the time (which is much better!) but thought try Wilmslow as on my doorstep....never again! My poor son cried it was so cold, the English channel is warmer! I remember as a kid my mum never taking me there and now I know why..rubbish then, rubbish now and still looks the same so never been decorated or cleaned in 30yrs!
Fantastic experience: Great facilities!
Positive experience: Staff are great - I think they are stretched and don't always answer the phone but hey - why do you need to call them ? Reviewers on here are very over critical - not sure what they are expecting. I've been to more expensive gyms and they may be slightly more up to date but is that worth 3-4 times the price ? The reviews put me off going but now I've tried it I'm a regular - does everything you need it to do
Positive experience: I love the staff in reception and the pool is always clean. The gym is small but very well equipped. Changing rooms needs a revamp but they are also very clean!
Negative experience: Why do reception never answer the phone. Literally called about 200 time over last year and hit rate for answering is about 5. Its so annoying
Negative experience: Reception was nice, the building in general is very old. I visited the centre for its swimming pool. £5 pound entry, bit overpriced for 25m I thought. At first, the changing rooms were very much below par. I was 15mins early before the start of the public swimming slot, the pool was empty, except for one lane but fair enough I suppose. Now in the pool, that same massive lane (must have been at least 3m) was free; but I was told this was for a private lesson, which would only last 30min, after which the lane would be free . So here we were, 20 folks in the remaining 2/3 of the pool ‘lane swimming’ on top of each other. While one person was in the remaining third. 30mins later, the lane is now free... but no, it is now being used for some staff training. So I go back into the mosh pit, but it is now too full to avoid going headfirst into someone else. This is surely an overreaction but also definitely reflects the lack of organisation of the pool. I’ve been to many pools and this is certainly one of the worst if not the worst. Sadly, it also competes in the most expensive pools category. Wilmslow is a nice place, you deserve better.
Negative experience: Culture is not to answer phone. Have been there queuing at reception many times when phone is ringing and staff continue to chit chat with each other. Badly managed, some poor staff.
Negative experience: The lift is broken preventing disabled users from accessing the gym. There is no fix time other than perhaps 2-3 months. Come on leisure team - why the heck can a building that must be accessible by all be denying access to wheelchair uses for an indefinite period of time? It simply MUST get resolved within the next few days. It’s totally unacceptable. Please reply. Thank you.
Positive experience: The initial reaction from the reception is to ignore you. I take my car park ticket in each week with an 'hello' and 'thank you' and each week I'm ignored entirely. The women are usually mid conversation about something else. I've also stood there waiting to enquire about something and not been acknowledged. I asked about after school classes for children and was handed a pool time table and the assistant walked off. After managing to get her attention I asked about classes and she said we don't run any here... I went to Google instead and now my children attend two classes at the centre. The centre is fine but the staff are very unhappy to be there. (and the reviews are true, it's rather smelly)
Positive experience: I think the one star reviews are a bit harsh. The staff are always really friendly and they pretty much have everything you need. Yes it would be nice if it was all a bit more updated, notably the changing rooms - and personally would love a sauna / steam room - but it’s half the price for a monthly membership than other places with those kind of facilities so I think some people’s expectations are a little bit unbalanced. They recently updated the gym which was done well. The extra space for more functional fitness would benefit from air conditioning eventually as it can get a bit too hot in there at times. And I really think they could choose something more appropriate than Bargain Hunt on the TV! I’ve not done any of the fitness classes in a while but they have a decent choice, I used to do circuits which was good. We often hire the sports hall for playing football or badminton with work colleagues, and they have some squash courts too if that’s what you’re interested in. I also sometimes use their 25 metre pool which is totally fine. So don’t let all the grumpy one stars put you off, it’s really not that bad!
Negative experience: I find the place disgusting .. filthy in general and smells terribly. A health and safety concern that I have written to Cheshire East about repeatedly but they just ignore the problem. They have no professional cleaners in the gym floor area and apparently they were stopped 8 years ago to save costs and the actual trainers were told to do it. But they are not cleaners! and have no skills or products so it does not get done. I can't see how a County Council run public space can sidestep this basic right for a clean and safe public space. Local Wilmslow Guardian agrees with me but unfortunately they have not written an article (yet!)
Negative experience: In desperate need of a refurbished, particularly showers/ changing rooms. Needs a sauna!!!
Fantastic experience: I just go for PT sessions and would highly recommend Ollie as a PT. haven't tried the other facilities so cannot comment . So far I have enjoyed my time at wil slows leisure centre.
Negative experience: As a Wilmslow resident it's embarrassing! For such a nice area, you would think the leisure centre would be nice. Its filthy, it has a run down changing facilitiy, the showers stay on for the whole of ten seconds and are impossible to wash your hair. The carpets are stained, there's chewing gum on the walls upstairs and don't even think about sitting in the cafe unless you are buying something. There was once a decent viewing area looking out to the pool. However it is now a dumping ground for chairs, tables, litter and food. Parents now have the weekly fight for sitting at the window space to see their child swim. It is understandable why people pay for private memberships elsewhere.
Negative experience: Need to revamp the changing rooms and clean them more often. Staff is nice but usually not well informed (about opening hours, classes, terms of membership). If you are not a person with flexible work hours, or non working parent with little kid the swimming pool facility is almost impossible to use, especially that it is not swimmers friendly (most of the time 1 line for swimmers, rest for kids, or school classes, or club time- with no access for a public). Mothers with kids in changing room walking back and again in dirty shoes, sometimes with boys at least 12 years old, and without even courtesy to use the special trash bins for dirty, smelly nappies- so all changing room smells of poo. Swimming pool is ALWAYS closed on Public Holidays- which is a time when people have actually time to use facilities. the only really good thing is location.
Fantastic experience: Been coming here since I was a child, great classes and v.personable
Fantastic experience: Great place for family. My baby loved the big pool and the baby pool. Changing rooms could be a bit more child friendly and parent helpful.
Hi Roxana, Thank you for your comments and glad to hear you enjoyed swimming at Wilmslow Leisure Centre. If you would like to send us any more feddback on how our changing rooms can be more parent/child friendly please email [email protected]
Negative experience: I would not give one star for this review but it's not possible to submit without any stars. We took our two grandchildren for the 10-11am Parents and Tots session as indicated on their website. On arrival the pool staff didn't seem to know anything about it. They kindly tipped some toys into the small pool. Several other families arrived for the same session shortly afterwards. The water was not very warm for a babies and there were broken tiles around the pool. The changing rooms are disgusting, they look like they were last refurbished in the 1960's. There was no soap to wash hands neither in the gents nor ladies. I needed to wash my toddlers hands urgently as he had put his hand in the urinal!! We reported this and was told that the cleaners would be bringing some one day this week!!! It was clear from the dried up dispensers that they had been empty for quite a long time. We will not be returning to Wilmslow Leisure Centre unless there is a vast improvement.
Thank you for your comments which we have taken on board where possible. We are sorry that you didn’t enjoy your visit and we would of course like the opportunity of seeing you again in the near future when we will be happy to discuss any ongoing concerns you may have
Positive experience: I play squash here most weeks. Really helpful staff. Sometimes tricky to call to book a court in advance however.
