Our comment from FitFit UK about Bannatyne Health Club And Spa:
Welcome to Bannatyne Health Club and Spa located in the heart of Edinburgh. Our center boasts a range of facilities designed for relaxation and rejuvenation, including a spa, gym, sauna, steam room, and swimming pool.
Visitors have praised our friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Many have appreciated the professional spa treatments provided by our therapists, highlighting the quality of massages and facials as standout experiences. The spa area has been noted as relaxing and the location is convenient for guests from both local and nearby areas.
However, there are some areas identified for improvement. A number of reviews have pointed out cleanliness issues in the changing areas and the pool facilities, with suggestions for better maintenance and timely upgrades. Additionally, some guests have expressed concerns about the inconsistent heating in the pool and sauna, and the requirement to pay extra for towels and robes has been mentioned as a downside.
Despite these concerns, Bannatyne Health Club and Spa offers a comprehensive experience for those looking to unwind or maintain their fitness, and many visitors leave feeling relaxed and satisfied with their treatments. We are committed to improving our facilities and service based on our guests’ feedback.
Bannatyne Health Club And Spa: Opinions
Negative experience: This gym is absolutely disgusting. Will never set foot in the showers ever again, they stink of urine and there is a nasty build up of plaque on the shower cubicle tiles. They need a cleaner asap!!!!!!!

Positive experience: I had such a great time at the Bannatyne’s health club and spa. My treatment was amazing just what I needed to relax and de-stress. My therapist was so lovely and professional and made me feel comfortable straight away. Reception staff were very polite and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this club for a spa day!

Negative experience: Was taken her by my daughter for a treat for us both. It was soooooo bad. Dirty changing rooms, showers so cold could not use but had to wash hair as was so full of unscented oil after a treatment. Pool was freezing hot tub was like warm. Treatments……. we both burst out laughing at the end of it. Therapist I had never introduced herself, sighed deeply all through 3x treatments and quite frankly could not be arsed. I’m on a salon in the hair and beauty industry and I was shocked. Don’t waste your money or your time just go to the pub , you’ll have a better time.
Hello Mary Gsllon, thank you for taking the time to write your review, please can you email us at [email protected] so we can investigate your experience further.
Negative experience: I think the place is good only if you have a gym membership and you want to use the spa as a plus. One-off day booking are very expensive and the venue is not outstanding. Changing room are actually far from the spa and they are very very cold with cold air conditioning on. Me and my friend were freezing cold. To get to the spa area and massage room we had to walk up and down with people passing to go the gym. Jacuzzi was working for 10 minutes and then pausing for other ten minutes. The lady who did my massage was very very good and my massage was actually a pleasant experience. My friend had just back massage and she had never been asked what areas of her body she needed to be treated. I tried to get a shower at the end the water from showers were cold. Furthermore if you need slippers and a bathrobes you will be charged 8 pounds extra. Ps I tried to write a mail to the management to avoid to complain publicly but never had a reply.

Negative experience: Facility's and gym equipment isn't great for the money and the contracts are shocking .
Hello Daryl Watt, we appreciate your feedback and would like the opportunity to understand your concerns as we offer a range offer different contract options Please contact us when you have a chance at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you.
Fantastic experience: Booked as part of a Wowcher deal. Even though we were running late the ladies still seen us and managed to provide 2 of the services we requested. This was entirely our own fault. Atmosphere was lovely and relaxing. The ladies working in the spa I couldn't fault and of course the reception staff were polite and helpful.
Hello Yvonne Paterson, we appreciate your positive review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh City Centre, thank you and we hope to see you again in the near future.
Negative experience: My daughter and I bought a Woucher offer of £69 per person for a spa day with mini facial, shoulder and foot massage. Never been there before and we won’t be returning. The swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were badly needing upgraded and it was cold wandering around from area to area. Corridors were like being in school or college! The steam room and sauna smelt musty. Not a pleasant experience at all with horrible changing rooms and shower area. Tried to find a plug socket for my straighteners and could only find one without a mirror anywhere near it. The treatments themselves were nice enough but the beds and towels you were lying on were not very comfortable. Very disappointed with our visit.
Hello Sheila Fox, we are sorry that your experience did not match your expectations at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh City Centre, should you wish to discuss in further detail please email me at [email protected].
Negative experience: I just finished my massage & facial combo (£39) in the spa on Queen Street in Edinburgh and I must say I'm so disappointed and on the service. First I must say the guy in the front house was lovely and very quick to get me to my therapist. Once I got there, the room was freezing! And the noise from the air conditioning was deafening, so much it was drowning the "relaxing " music. The gal was nice but her hands were so cold and more than a relaxing massage was like a caress. No pressure or technique on her massage. I got more tense just for how uncomfortable I was. The only nice and redeemable thing was the facial. Ohh and the scalp massage? Horrible and not worth it 2/10 really. I rather spend my money elsewhere and get a real massage!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic customer service from sales and marketing manager Emma, a credit to the company. Thanks again!
Hello Fiona, we are so pleased to learn you enjoyed your experience at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh City Centre.
Fantastic experience: Great day out a couple of weeks ago , despite the snow Lovely massages , steam etc
Hello Jon The Baptist, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh City Centre.
Negative experience: Pool area closed frequently, or at least something is normally broken. Closed down the whole area for about a month but expect full payment. If everything is working, it's usually full of students anyway, so it's loud and not very relaxing unless you go early morning. It was a big mistake signing up to this gym
Fantastic experience: Staff always ready to help. Nice welcoming atmosphere.
Hello Anna Szymczak, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh City Centre.
Negative experience: Had a spa voucher to use which had been gifted to me and my mum for us to spend quality time together. Firstly, it was impossible to find a time with 2 concurrent therapy time so we ended up having to book 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon meaning the period between was when we could hang out. My treatment for back, neck and shoulder massage followed by a full body scrub was ok. Nothing special but not awful. Therapist was nice enough and it did the job. The facilities: the lay out is extremely strange where you get changed for the pool upstairs then walk down dirty carpeted stairs in your swim stuff to the pool. The showers, changing rooms and toilets were disgusting and worse than you get in night clubs at 2am! See pictures Another point, they don’t provide you a towel during your visit even though you’ve spent money on treatments. I was given the option to buy a towel for £10 or rent it for £3.50. This is the only spa I’ve ever been to that doesn’t provide a towel at a bare minimum. The whole building and facilities are tired looking and overall very dirty and I would not recommend anyone visit unless it was exclusively for a treatment then you plan to leave.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback about your experience with us, Rachel Wrightson.
Negative experience: Unclean spa area, disgusting toilets and poor facilities. Definitely wouldn't recommend. Treatment rooms not very nice, relaxation room dire, looks like damp is very much present as spa is in the basement with no windoes. Feel bad for the staff as they didn't seem to have enough towels or products. I had an elemis facial which was okay and a terrible back massage which was suppose to be an hour but lasted 35 minutes after being left alone in the room for 10 mins and then treatment finishing before the hour. Only saving grace was the lovely Ola who did my eyebrow wax and tint which turned out well. Sadly cannot recommend Bannatyne

Fantastic experience: I used the spa and massage services and I was absolutely amazed. All staff are very friendly and welcoming, particularly Ioannis helped me navigate and made it all easier as it was my first time visiting there. All the girls at the spa were also super friendly and very professional and my massage therapist was awesome. I felt so relaxed after this. I would definitely recommend

Fantastic experience: Really nice branch, full body massage was perfect. Thank you Ioanis for help and showing me around, staff is very nice and helpful. I would definitely come back.
Hello Oll Te, we strive to provide a great experience, we are glad you enjoyed your visit. We strive to provide excellent facilities and service so we really appreciate your kind words, Rachel Wrightson.
Negative experience: I really don't understand what happened here.. 5 of us had booked a spa day which included use of the facilities and a 30 minute treatment. We were shown downstairs to the 'Spa' where we were greeted and sent to the relaxation room. I asked where we could get changed into our swimwear for our treatments but I didn't really get an answer and we were handed forms to fill out. Off we went into the relaxation room carrying our bags and disturbing two others who were already in the tiny room. There were 3 heated seats, only 2 worked and 2 beanbags to sit on. Since 2 heated seats where already occupied we had to all squish in with all our stuff and fill in the forms. The first 2 of my friends went off for their treatment, in their clothes may I add and came back a 11 minutes later looking very confused. Then, myself and other friend went for our treatments. A shared room which was fine, but a bit awkward for my friend having to get changed from her clothes for her massage. I had a facial which consisted of a cleanse, tone, scrub, tone, moisturise. I've had a better facial opening the dishwasher. Girl just couldn't be bothered, only doing the middle of my face, maybe she didn't see my neck and chin.. who knows. My friend said she liked her massage but it just wasn't long enough. We had to laugh at the cotton pads used on my face just dumped all over the floor. We walked back into the 'relaxation room 10 minutes later. Now time for the sauna, pool and hot tub, back up 2 flights of stairs, walk in and there's no changing room, that's up another flight again. We really didn't want to walk down in our bathing suits with no slippers or robe but we thought we would try. When we got to the changing room and seen the absolute state of it that was enough. Plasters and muck all over the floor. Skid marks all over the toilets. People from the gym rushing in and out. So we left after being there for barely even an hour. Don't waste your time or money. We have all been to the one at the fort and it was far better than this one. We weren't expecting luxury but common sense and clean would have been nice.

We appreciate your honest review. We set a high standard for ourselves, so we are disappointed to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one, Rachel Wrightson, General Manager, Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh City Centre.
Negative experience: Don't go in the swimming pool or Jacuzzi, it is not maintained and I have picked up virus/infection from there. Symtoms; rashes leading to puss infecction/bacteria. Confirmed also by my medic. Beware. All else like sauna/steam appears ok.
Hello Your Friend, thank you for your review, please email us at [email protected] so we can investigate your experience further. All feedback, whether it be positive or negative allows us to improve as a business, thank you, Rachel Wrightson.
Negative experience: Gym and pool are in shocking condition - dirt, hair, mould everywhere, worse than a wetherspoons toilet. Staff all seemed depressed and it's hard to blame them. Total scam

Positive experience: The pool was ok, unfortunately the facilities seemed old and could have done with more cleaning. However, the spa treatment was very good and relaxing, short but still good!
Hello Teni Okpaje, thank you for your review rating of our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh City Centre If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Rachel Wrightson.
Fantastic experience: The staff are really welcoming and the facilitaties are top notch. The Relaxation Room is a great feature and with two sauna's and two jacuzzi's it's not crammed. It's family friendly too; all in all a good experience.. We had a lovely time and the staff were genuinely warm and friendly. We can't wait to go back.
Hello Ste Fitzgerald, we are so pleased to learn you enjoyed your experience at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh City Centre. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Rachel Wrightson.
Positive experience: It was OK. Overall I thought it was quite unclean and have definitely been to better spas in the area.
Hello Molly Grenfell, thank you for your review, please email us at [email protected] so we can investigate your experience further. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations on this occasion as we work hard to provide the best service we can, Rachel Wrightson.
Negative experience: Really unsafe, unhygienic and disgusting facilities. Much better options nearby - horrible atmosphere and dangerously unclean swimming area. Perfect place to get COVID or a fungal infection

Fantastic experience: Great club for a day guest too - used the sauna steam and jacuzzi Much friendly help from Iliana on reception Very helpful and kind Thanks so much Bannatynes

Negative experience: Guy checking us in was lovely, massages and spa area were lovely. That's it the pool area is so dirty there was a plastic screen next to the loungers it had marks and hairs all over it. There was only 3 loungers which were old and uncomfortable. There was hairs and even toenails in the changing room. The tiles look so dated. The walls could be doing with getting painted leading upstairs to changing room. Towels at a cost of 3.50 each were so thin and had marks on them. As soon as you leave the spa area everything is very tired and dated and dirty. Whoever runs this facility should be speaking to higher up to get the place in shape.
Fantastic experience: I had the most amazing time with my friend today. Staff were all amazing and facilities were great. Massages was the best I ever experienced. Would definitely go back and highly recommend it. Thanks to the amazing staff fora great day.
Negative experience: If you are a foreigner (and a non UK resident) they won't book you in for the spa. I have never read something like this, ever! I will be spending my money elsewhere
Negative experience: I had the worst experience with this club and rude customer service trying to cancel my membership. The locker rooms were unsanitary and slippery, with no plastic bags for your clothes or any place to put wet towels. Half of the equipment in the gym needed to be fixed and updated. The mats were dirty, and there needed to be more weights for everyone. The steam room was out of service daily, and the swimming pool was filthy. I signed up for a yoga class, and they called to cancel the same day without an explanation. I wasted my time, energy, and money. I recommend joining the One Spa Gym, which has excellent state-of-the-art equipment and a fantastic spa experience. I canceled my membership after three visits, and I paid over £100 in the joining fee, pro-rated costs, and another month on top of that. Beware of scams, and stay away from Bannatyne.
Negative experience: It doesn't have enough machines, the pool area is dirty and slippery and worst of all the manager is rude...
Fantastic experience: Had a couples massage and an elemis facial and felt so relaxed afterwards, definitely recommend the place! Definitely returning
Positive experience: Not bad
Negative experience: I got a coupon for this place and I paid £69 for two people which I was expecting so much more and it was a bad experience. Only one guy in the reception was nice. The girls who gave us the massage in the morning were so rude and they gave us the feeling we didn’t like them for some reason that I don’t know but you could feel it. Also I paid for 25min of massage which they did only 15 min. The pool and the rest of the “spa” was bad. You can better go to Nuffield Health that it’s way cheaper and much nicer. I wouldn’t recommend it at all and I will never comeback again.
Positive experience: Lovely massage and facial. But facilities a bit tired.
Negative experience: I've recently cancelled my membership. The pool area just kept getting more and more grimy. The path to the women's changing room is slippy because of the dirt build up which you can visabley see. The sauna handle slowing grew black grime on the bottom of the handle and the floor in the womens shower is grimy. I left like I needed to shower after a shower. The water barely runs hot and the jacuzzi is cold most of the time. It's cheaper than most gyms but I still dont think it's worth the money.
Fantastic experience: Lovely facilities. We used the spa and jacuzzi and it’w perfect for anyone looking to relax and recharge. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially Ioannis!
Negative experience: The spa area deserves more stars because the staff are lovely and Valda gave me an excellent massage. The relaxation room is very nice too. However, as an overall experience, I was really disappointed in the facilities at Bannatyne's. The downstairs area felt a bit shabby - limp salad and other below-par food in the cafe, broken lockers in the changing room, no towelling robe or flipflops included in the Groupon spa package. No lifeguard at the swimming pool, people sitting in the jacuzzi when it was off and supposed to be self-cleaning, parents taking toddlers into the jacuzzi. Not impressed!
Fantastic experience: Loved my time experiencing this gym! We used the jacuzzi and gym for a relaxing evening workout and appreciated the facilities on hand.
Positive experience: Amazing staff and treatments
Negative experience: Today I forgot my bracelet to enter the club, I asked at the reception for a replacement bracelet for two hours, unfortunately I did not receive it because they wanted me to pay for it, unfortunately it is a fraud because they have not refunded my money several times when I returned the bracelet, very bad Service.
Fantastic experience: Great place to go...gym, swimming pool, sauna , jacuzzi and massage center
Negative experience: Considering this is a city centre Bannantynes it could definitely do with an upgrade. It's pretty run down and basic. Spa was nice and can always get good deals online though.
Negative experience: Expensive for what you get. Lockers rarely work. Gym equipment is old and the offers a limited selection. Staff are great though.
Positive experience: Ok pool, sauna and steam room facilities. Strange layout from the ladies changing rooms to the pools. Does the job
Fantastic experience: I was there today with my husband. We loved our treatment , thank you Dominika and her collegue. Place is nice and tidy. Deffo will be back
Fantastic experience: had a great spa day .the therapist was really good had a great facial and massage
Positive experience: Great spa and treatment .The rest of the place a bit tired no water dispensor at the pool but other than that ok.
Negative experience: If a piece of gym equipment happens to break don’t expect a replacement for 6-8 weeks (on a good day). And YASMIN who I think has some kind of customer service role (joke) is the biggest snowflake I have had the displeasure of meeting. The gym were giving our guest passes to new members. I asked for a guest pass for a friend as I’d been a fully paying member for a while. She said ‘it isn’t in her power’ I said ‘in that case can I speak with a manager?’ at which point she said ‘no because your tone isn’t good and we have a policy of not referring members with a bad tone to management’. What a joke! All this with a non-flinching smile on her face. Is being direct in asking for what you want no longer acceptable? Do I need to cushion everything so that it doesn’t damage your ego? It’s a simple request and YOU WORK IN CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Fantastic experience: great club ... spacious ... polite and competent staff ... first class equipment.
Positive experience: Fit for purpose but a little bit tired and in need of a refurb
Negative experience: Awful Experience! Had been a member for sometime but the equipment is always dirty and run down. Nothing ever works and it is very understaffed. Eventually had enough because of the state the pool was in (utterly disgusting - full of hair and definitely hadn’t been cleaned - totally unsanitary). Spoke to a member of staff about cancelling my membership - who said to call and cancel membership. Tried calling both head office and Edinburgh multiple times throughout June - NOT ONE SINGLE CALL was answered nor was I ever called back. Eventually resorted to an online enquiry form only to be told that I had to give a months notice despite the fact that I had been trying to do so!! They were incredibly rude and unhelpful. I am utterly disgusted and considering reporting the company for awful health and safety unless someone gets in touch with me as I have requested multiple times.
Positive experience: Really nice gym and swim/sauna/steam room/ jacuzzi area. Very chilled. Pool is on the small side but theirs plenty area's to relax in and wait for a spot in the pool. Really enjoyed my time there.
Negative experience: This place is just dreadful. The service team = awful. The sales team = rude. They are a health club that don't clean their sauna. They have showers with brown stains above them, and when informed leave it that way for months - of course, you can't take a photo because cameras are (rightly) not allowed in the pool/spa area. But their showers were BROWNING above. Waste of money.
Negative experience: Unless you want to just aimlessly walk on a treadmill or sit in a jacuzzi, definitely avoid Equipment is poor. One rack. Layout is awful. Rows and rows or cardio that is never used. Seemingly 0 interest in people that actually want to work out. My own fault for not cancelling on my first visit, counting down the days till it expires If you can get anywhere else, do it
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff and environment very professional and friendly
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed my spa day there with my daughter
Fantastic experience: Very positive experience. Girl name Oliwia (sorry if I wrong spell her name Olivia). First time with them on the treatment, extremely happy ❤️ Thank You very much. I definitely will be back ❤️
Fantastic experience: Had a very good Swedish Massage in the Spa Treatment Centre. Very attentive and engaging staff.
Negative experience: Cant rate the premises or treatments as I didnt get that far, was given a gift voucher as a gift from my daughter and put it in a "safe place" when I came across it again it was due to expire the following day, got in touch with the spa to try to book but no appointments, tried to extend the voucher but no joy....got punted from pillar to post with the only decent help and advice given by Freya, when i got through to try to book the voucher had expired by..... wait for it.....2 hours!!!!! So although it was my fault i missed out on what could have been a nice experience by 2 hours!!!! You would think a company this big would have a little bit of give in it, but hey ho never mind...probably too far out of my comfort zone anyway. Only gave the one star because of Freya.
Negative experience: Pretty small, steam room is never really steamy and alot of turnover in staff (which speaks for itself) Did the trick for a while, the real problems start when you want to leave the club. They make it extremely difficult, can't do it over the phone or in person, you need to email and explain why (surprised they didn't want a written letter sent by pidgeon!). They also won't let you cancel without paying for the full next month, so for me that was a total of 7 weeks notice to cancel a rolling contract (so I was not tied into a contract). So, yeah wouldn't recommend.
Negative experience: Guys honestly I've had the worst customer experience with them. I couldn't continue gym after 2 I informed them and stopped my direct debit. Their sales team called and said to pay for another month and they can cancel my membership. I paid. 2 months later I'm being chased bill of £77. I've tried contacting sales endless times , calling them and filling their support form. They are just pathetic and never responds. My bills keep adding up and I'm still trying to get it stopped. Lady picked up call once and said you're bound by contract then how come their sales team said they'll cancel it to which she had no answer and hungup on me. worst admin ever . Don't be scammed by them.
Fantastic experience: Lovely wee club, clean n I like d big jacuzzi as well.
Negative experience: Came through from Glasgow for birthday for massages and facial. Time stated 11:15 arrived 11am . Staff said should have been there 10:45 . Attitude was grim . Told us couldn’t get treatment as lost time slot next customer arriving . No one appears I could see . Eventually said fit you in at 4pm !! Lack of good customer relations and etiquette. Money wasted never got treatment as was diesel to come such a trip and parking costs hoping for nice experience . Total waste of a day
Positive experience: Went for a virgin spa experience with my partner - the place was a bit run down. The pool area in particular. Was shown to changing rooms but wasn't given a key for the lockers - had to go back down to ask for one. Place was okay but we'll probably try a different place next time.
Positive experience: Gym equipment isnt very good what so ever. Very very low end Technogym equipment. Pool is quite good, doesn't smell and is very clean. Good temperature but as it can't have a life guard it's very shallow. Sauna is very nice but there isn't any hot coals or anything to increase the temperature. Overall I do not recommend as it's a VERY expensive gym. Get yourself a PureGym membership and go to a different pool if you care about that part. (Don't even think about the spa unless you're a millionaire). On a good note the changing rooms are nice and there's a machine to dry your swimming shorts. Definitely take a tour and don't pay anything over £40 a month. (student membership is £36)
Positive experience: Lovely massage that was purchased via Groupon. The spa facilities are good but itsnt definitely not a luxury spa.
Fantastic experience: Had a voucher for a spa day, had a lovely day in nice calm atmosphere and lovely massage x
Negative experience: Extremely disappointed with the facilities. The jacuzzi was out of service when we went and no staff notified us of this, prior to booking or on arrival just a cold pool of water with a sign. The pool temperature was cold and area was small. Steam room just did not smell right. Sauna was the only happy point, the massages we received were wonderful and the staff downstairs were lovely. Very disappointed for what was supposed to be a birthday treat for a friend.
Positive experience: so you have to hire towels and robes if you want them, don't expect them to be free even if you've booked a spa treatment. The spa was nice as was the massage and facial. The pool is large and has a strict lane system in place, the jacuzzi is cold and the sauna/steam room are OK but given the amount of times people keep opening the door it's never warm enough to actually do anything. Changing rooms are quite a walk from the pool area.
Negative experience: Pretty disappointing. The pool is grim and the changing facilities could be much better and cleaner. Really dated as well. There was hair in the plugholes and grime on the wall. Renting towels for 3.50 is a bit ridiculous too! It definitely wasn't worth the money coming here ( we got the spa package ) and left laughing thinking we won't be back here again for sure. Really wouldn't recommend this.
Negative experience: Sadly the "upmarket" gyms are no different to the contract free ones. People on their phones hogging equipment and slamming weights down. Lad culture gym space. Pool area was the best part.
Negative experience: Was disgusting so dirty and run down
Positive experience: I received a spa day with 3 treatments as a Christmas gift, treatments were really nice and the girl was really lovely. Went into Sauna/steam room after, wasn't as clean as I would expect and the toilet by the pool were that dirty that I ended up walking all the way back upstairs to the changing room toilets.
Fantastic experience: Staff were friendly and professional. Great facilities and easy to access location
Positive experience: I’ve been a member at this gym for 6 months. Happy to say i’m disappointed. The staff are great, However the gym is very dated and small for what you’re paying. The classes are great and the fact they’re included in the price but the actual gymnasium itself is very small. The Pool area is good hot tub is great but the sauna and steam room is a wee bit small however it’s still very good steam. The toilets and changing rooms are cleaned regularly which is also very good. But sad to say i’ve had to move to a bigger gym.
Negative experience: Went today with my friend.we had a lovely relaxing massage from Freya As for ladies toilets and rest of place absolute dump. AVOID!!!!
Negative experience: The staff were great for the most part however the spa/changing rooms/showers/stairwells & most of the interior are crying out for a renovation and upgrade as they look shabby and tired. Having to rent a towel for £3.50 is not great and the towel itself was poor quality. Not impressed on the whole. I’m sorry duncan but I’m out.
Negative experience: The staff is very rude, they close the pool area at 9.30pm and they ask you on the microphone to leave at 9.45 the gym, very very rude staff even when I went to the gym at 9pm the member of staff was welcoming me with “good morning”
Fantastic experience: Really good variety of activities and swimming pool for a very affordable price. If you want to go for yoga lessons in Edinburgh you will have to pay minimum twice per month of what I pay with my membership with lot of classes included. 100% recommended the yoga teacher on Monday evenings and Zumba teacher on Tuesday evenings. They are great!
Negative experience: Really terrible customer service. Tried to use the service as a guest; a one day pass only to be turned away as I apparently needed a form of ID to do that (which made no sense but the rules are the rules I guess). Even after offering to show a digital version, I was still turned away (with the staff being rude about it). Only for me to come back again, met another front of house person and didn't get asked for ID- just registered me on the computer and sent off on my way?? It is quite an expensive place to visit (£25 day pass or £15 if with a member) but that's neither here nor there. The gym and pool services were decent though, although the swimming pool was quite cold compared to the jacuzzi. The facilities are all on different floors too. You have to hire a towel if you didn't bring one. Again expensive (£2.50) considering what you already pay for as a day pass. The changing rooms were decent although some showers were only giving cold water. I recommend having a shower at the first cubicle as if you go to the end one, the water from other cubicles flow into yours which is where the drain is. Not a great experience on my way out either with the staff being rude when asking a question about a towel return.
Positive experience: The spa staff and treatment were fantastic, felt wonderful afterwards. The welcoming FOH were absolutely lovely. However that being said the spa was quite a let down, the jacuzzi was freezing cold, the lady on reception said it had just been cleaned as was warming up however when we left 3 hours later it was still freezing cold there were maintenance men in the women's changing rooms, the sauna was very basic, the steam room however was really lovely but sadly for a "spa day experience" I cannot recommend it. On our way out the FOH staff member didn't even turn round when we asked where to leave the bands on the way out, apparently arranging the already tidy under armour clothing was much more interesting. Can't recommend it, started well, then went catastrophically down hill after leaving the spa treatment.
Fantastic experience: I’m a member of this gym, unfortunately only until November as I gonna travel again, but I really enjoy this gym, they have everything, gym, spa, pool, jacuzzi… I have been to other gyms in Edinburgh and this one is my favourite one.
Positive experience: I received a spa day as a gift for Xmas, it was a lovely massage. I felt a bit ripped off that I had to pay £6 to rent a towel and bathrobe.
Fantastic experience: I just had a head massage with Alexandra, it was absolutely wonderful.
Positive experience: Good facilities but a bit overpriced
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed my spa day with my daughter. Had a swim, jacuzzi, massage, facial, and another swim!
Positive experience: Excellent Facial according to my wife. Very very good! The place is a little run down, but otherwise the service was excellent.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities, friendly, helpful staff, reasonably priced
Positive experience: I was given a voucher to spend at the spa, and I got a massage and facial treatment. I give that 5 stars. The spa in the basement is relaxing and comfortable, and Chelsea provided my treatments perfectly (thankyou.) I was really impressed by her work and I emerged a new, relaxed person. The rest of the building is not so luxurious and relaxing. Carpets and paint on the walls could do with being replaced. Machine leaking into a bucket in the changing room (not luxurious) . I saw cleaning staff working hard so I believe the general air of tiredness and neglect is due to lack of investment. And please stop charging people to use robes/towels/flipflops. That's bonkers.
Fantastic experience: Great spa facilities for small gym/spa with lovely, well trained therapists. Great back massage, will go again.
Negative experience: Myself and my mother booked a spa day here. It's the first time we have been to a Bannatyne spa and unfortunately will be the last. The massages we received were excellent but the facilities were awful! Chipped and missing tiles on entry to the pool. The pool had an aerobics class in it so we were unable to gain access for a good while. The changing rooms had a leaking swimming costume dryer so water was pooling on the floor. Some of the showers in the changing room were not working and the toilets were out of order. You had to pay for robes and towels which we have never experienced at another spa before. You had to travel up and down stairs to gain access to different areas. The relaxation room was uncomfortable and Tiny with no relaxing music etc on. Just seems its run down and not cared for, which considering the price of the place, its very poor.
Fantastic experience: Really enjoy the Bannatyne membership - great staff in the Edinburgh sites
Fantastic experience: So relaxing and uplifting Sunday choice!
Fantastic experience: Great place I love it classes, sauna steam room pool jacuzzi brilliant recommend to anyone
Fantastic experience: Great gym and spa facilities
Positive experience: No free parking on site for members
Positive experience: Great location, staff and price, however it could do with a refurbishment in the pool area. The gym is overwhelmed by treadmill machines when the gym is already quite small.
Negative experience: Basic hygiene can’t be met ,very disappointing
Fantastic experience: Great place can't fault it
Positive experience: Big Dunc
