Negative experience: Having been a member for many years I have recently become very disappointed with the service, I like to attend the aqua classes, These are now oversubscribed, For the last week I have tried to book at 7am when the booking opens only to find that the booking system crashes ! When I finally manage to book at 7.03 I am 6th on the waiting list. The Gym has too many members as most classes are also over subscribed., Management do not seem to be concerned about customer satisfaction only about increasing the new member subscriptions. Why be a member if you cannot book a class.
Negative experience: Echoing other reviews similar to my own, £5 a month price increase for absolutely nothing. The only justification given was inflation. Poor condition equipment, mould in showers and to top it off today half off the lights aren’t working! If it wasn’t for the friendliest of the staff this would be a one star review. I will be cancelling my membership to go and pay half the price for double the service at another gym.
Negative experience: Going downhill due to lack of upkeep to the facilities (e.g. Machines not working, out of service water taps & toilets and mold in the showers) whilst raising prices. All straight forward to identify and fix - therefore assume management is penny pinching. Considering terminating membership after 6 years of using the gym.
Negative experience: Can anyone from the gym management tell me what's the point of having big ceiling air cons in the main area blowing a strong stream of cold air at your sweaty back during winter? It's not exactly a Dubai in the gym, guys. You hardly need any aggressive ventilation at all. The least you could do is listen to complaints from your members and act accordingly not just nodding and doing nothing about it. I repeat there's no need to blow any cold wind at us freeze us in the back while we exercise. Do you get it?
Negative experience: The cheek of raising prices again when the changing rooms and the gym equipment are badly in need of upgrading. I see another reviewer said this 9 months ago and no changes have been made. There are at least two other gyms in Letchworth with cheaper prices and brand new equipment and/or facilities. They need to up their game - refurb the changing rooms and buy new equipment if it keeps breaking. I'm considering whether it's worth staying to be honest...I feel like a mug for paying the price for these facilities when there's better and cheaper elsewhere.
Positive experience: Clean and tidy and friendly staff. Both the showers and the pool are lovely and warm :)
Fantastic experience: Staff are really friendly. Pool and changing area is clean. Sauna and stream room good sizes and can fit more than you think in them.

Negative experience: The staff are really good but the facilities and equipment and looking very dated. The gym equipment in particular looks like it was last updated during the Blair government, with machines constantly out of order. I’ve visited a few other Nuffield gyms in the same membership tier and they have much more modern equipment and facilities. I’m guessing Nuffield haven’t spent much since they took over this club a few years ago. Some serious money needs to be spent to bring this place up to standard. The staff are the saving grace of this gym and the key reason why I suspect people are prepared to pay the hefty membership fee. EDIT: 11 months after my original review, I’ve changed my rating from 3 star to 1 star. Any prospective member should avoid joining until they actually invest some money in new machines. So many were out of order today and are constantly breaking down. Changing rooms are dated and showers are mouldy. Staff are still good but until the company are prepared to invest serious money in this place then look elsewhere.

Negative experience: We have no shower at the swimming pool for nearly 5 weeks Everyone is jumping from the sauna straight to the swimming pool and is disgusting. We been told it could take up to 2 weeks 4 weeks ago because they are waiting for parts but really the part can be ordered on line and will be next day delivery
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym! Never waiting for a machine, friendly staff and clean. Pool, steam room and sauna are a good size. Overall a great place
Negative experience: My son has experienced consistent rudeness and excessive criticism from the swim instructor during his lessons. This has caused him distress and diminished his enthusiasm for attending. Other parents have reported similar issues, with one child even leaving the class due to the instructors behavior. The management should promptly address this matter and create a more respectful and supportive environment for all participants. Overall, my experience has been disappointing due to the unprofessional conduct of one instructor.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member for a few years. I love going swimming and this place is the best for me. The virus has spoiled things, set my health back, but Nuffield has helped to keep going.
Negative experience: Emailed several times and called many times over a period of 4 months so far regarding swimming lessons, had a couple of response However only to confirm they are looking into why no response September 2019 no response October 2019 no response November 2019 no response December 2019 no response January 14th so far no response
Negative experience: Visited the gun after a couple of years. Exactly as before , No updated machines at all. Bikes were actually rusty !!! And dirty. Audio audio equipment still held on badly by cable ties ... can’t believe the price tag on this place when you look at the quality and cleanliness.
Positive experience: Good gym with lots of equipment and a nice sauna and steam room Well trained Staff Good cafeteria with super friendly staff Good selection of light meals Coffee could be better and cheaper !! All in all a good club. Value for money
Positive experience: ABOUT THE HOTEL: Not quite Fawlty Towers but not all is Ok. Waiter forgot to send my order to the kitchen (Manuel ). The hotel was probably very nice ten years ago but is now somewhat rough around the edges. Eg. Woodwork of windows rotten. Paint will not do anymore. Rooms need a refurb as any hotel does after 10 years.
Negative experience: Was referred through my private medical insurance to see a physio here. After 30 mins of waiting I asked the reception to see what was happening. I was told the physio wasn’t on site and I would not be seen. Extremely poor customer experience and very unprofessional. Would give 0 stars if it was an option.
Positive experience: The swimming lessons booked for my 5 yr old where in a small area of the pool, and there were too many children in this small area for the lesson to be useful. They say the would like your feed-back but dont provide a direct contact phone or email address for doing so

Negative experience: Recently induced a stealth £1.00 towel charge for each visit. No notices, correspondence, tweets, facebook announcements etc Website falsely advertising "Free Towels" as one of the selling points. Pitches itself as a premium £65 per month gym but acts like a budget one. Rusted old machines and filthy equipment. People are no longer using sweat towels so you can imagine what it's like. Check the pics for real illustration of what the equipment looks like rather than fancy pics of when the equipment was new (many many years ago I might add). In response to your reply below you have done nothing but admit that you are failing most customers needs as "most average 1.7 towels per visit". Will move to Bannatynes in due course which provide towels without charge and have recently undergone a major refurbishment.

We are not changing any terms or conditions at the club by enforcing the existing 1 towel per visit rule. Our website clearly states on our clubs home page that a complimentary towel is provided. Whilst we have offered a complimentary towel to you from the beginning of your membership, it is not a part of our terms and conditions as it is a service that we only provide in some of our clubs. If you require more than 1 towel per visit then we do have an option for you to add an additional towel at a cost of £1 per visit. Nuffield Health launders more than 11 million towels per year at a cost of 3 million pounds and we have identified that on average members use 1.7 towels per visit. We are committed from both an environmental and charitable status perspective to monitor and improve this. We do however appreciate your feedback and would like to apologise for any inconvienience this has caused you when this change was implemented on-site. Positive experience: Annoyed having just turned up at the gym 1840 on Sunday to find it now shuts at 1900 and not 2000. You should perhaps adjust your website to show this as it would've saved me a wasted trip. Getting the kids to bed, then coming to the gym for an hour to train and relax before work Monday morning was always a ritual of mine. Sorry but I'll now be looking to leave and go to a gym that opens later than 1900 on a weekend!!

Fantastic experience: I have today joined this gym. Before I visited the gym I had read some of these reviews and others with regards to some concerns that previous members had. On arrival I was greeted well by the receptionist and taken around the facilities. "J" was very polite and informative and consequently I signed up on the "Wellbeing" programme. In our discussions I raised some of the issues I had read and was informed that new management and trainers have been recruited and all is well. Let's hope this is the case. Regards ST

Negative experience: Extremely unprofessional. Uncaring. Managers never listen to members. No air conditioning in the studios. No customer service. Managers consistantly ignore all complaints. Offer very few aerobic based classes. Changing rooms are unclean and I don’t think the studio floors are ever cleaned. Very unhygienic. Classes cancelled all the time without informing members. A total waste of money.
Hi Lily, Thank you for your feedback. I have spoken to the senior team who have advised that as per member feedback. Deep cleaning of the fitness studios occurs twice daily. Similarly the changing rooms are also constantly reviewed (when appropriate) to ensure that the facilities are maintained throughout the day, to the high standard expected on our sites. The senior management are very sorry to hear that you are not happy with your gym experience and welcome feedback at any point during operational hours (there is also a DM on rota). Similarly if you would like to feedback in more detail they are also available for more detailed feedback meetings. Negative experience: This club is not fit for purpose. Myself and other members have complained endlessly about the poor service. We are consistently ignored by management. The air conditioning does not work. The music does not work. The fire alarm goes off all the time disrupting classes and no one knows how to turn it off. One member told me she had an electric shock from one of the machines. The pool is often not working. There is only one dance and Zumba class a week. There used to be three, but despite their popularity, they were all dropped. Nuffield says its because they can't get instructors. Given what they are paid, it is surprising there are any instructors. Nuffield, St Albans has seven dance classes a week and is managed in a very effective way. At Letchworth we pay the same fee, but are not offered the same standard of service or choice of classes. I know 15 members who have left this club recently. One thing is certain until there is new management at this club, it will continue to be a shambles. Very, very disappointing!

I have spoken to the GM Mel, who would be more than happy to discuss this in further detail with you to try and resolve any issues you have with your membership. Regarding the Zumba classes we did canvass membership to determine interest but there was unfortunately not enough people to make the classes viable. if the situation changes in the future we may re-review. The pool has sadly been closed for three days in the calendar year, but were unavoidable due to health and safety concerns. During the instances we kept members aware via signage and social media. We continually welcome customer feedback and as such thank you for taking the time to review your experience. Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere, very friendly
Fantastic experience: I've been a member here since it opened. The staff are great, not intrusive but always on hand if you have a question or need some help - including finding my lost phone, MP3 play etc! I travel a lot and use gyms all over the world and rarely have I found anything better. OK, air con does seem to have a problem in the summer, but it never is a real issue.
Negative experience: not as good as used to be which is why we left, not as clean showers often grubby, staff not as helpful and also much of the equipment is often broken the air con always breaks in the summer - the gym equipment takes ages to be repaired and be careful if you cancel as they may try to take more payments than you expect ! as the other google user said they will try and get two months out of you when cancelling - we had exactly the same problem - reception staff say yes they have acknowledged your cancellation but later you get told "- you didn't get a receipt - well tough luck " you owe us !
Fantastic experience: Find this gym friendly warm and inviting - polite reception staff - always welcoming you on arrival and departing always see you soon and thank you. New TRX equipment - fantastic - always someone around to assist you and some incredibly great classes - great instructors too! Thoroughly recommend this gym

Negative experience: I joined this gym in July of 2012 to get fit and feel better. During my time here, I had noticed on several occasions the reception staff were extremely ignorant. I can hardly remember a good morning/afternoon or a smile given by any of them.The senior staff and instructors were not much better. It was common to see the instructors standing around and chatting in the gym area when people were working out. I never seen anyone attend or instruct people on how to exercise or use a machine properly even if I spotted it myself. After my three month period, and them having done an MOT on my body, I was told they would check in with me on my progress over the coming months. Needless to say this did not happen. I really don't feel the membership of this institution, felt what I was told initially. I somehow feel I was a little cheated as some of their commitments to me were not followed. My advice, do your research, keep copies of their commitments, and don't be swayed by the name. If you are the person who wants to get fit from the start, and will need guidance from some team members here, look elsewhere. Because, trust me, you will be the one asking or looking for help. They will not come to check in with you. I have since started yoga and joined another gym where the staff follow through to their word , are friendly, genuine and efficient where nothing is too much trouble for them. They also make it about their clients and not about themselves.
