Everlast Gyms - Cardiff Leckwith: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great gym and sauna
Negative experience: Staff taking reports of issues personally instead of pass it to supervision . They let people bullying members. misinforming costumers leading to hassle with paying fines. Maintenance done not with safety standards . All this makes costumers in situations fight or leave. Shame as club is excellent for myself but service dropped below any acceptance. I'm strongly thinking of leaving after 3 years.
Positive experience: Nice staff. Still waiting for the PT’s to contact us about the £35 offer though, disappointing one week later and no contact.
Fantastic experience: Best gym I’ve been training there for few months the material swimming pool steam room everything perfect
Positive experience: great gym for casual since it often doesnt get busy however;; it is not 24/7 even though the price is high the pool is sometimes too chlorinated, if you have thin hair it messes it up steam room is great however at later times its too hot!! machine does not get renovation(even when the price for a membership is high)
Negative experience: Ah, where to begin with this absolute gem of a gym? The equipment isn’t ancient, but it's certainly seen better days, with handle grips worn down to a nice, gritty texture. The showers? A delightful mix of scalding and freezing water, with mouldy tiles to complete the spa-like experience. The gym walls are painted black – presumably to hide the crumbling state of the place, though it doesn't take much to notice. The pool? Perfect for a weekend swim with toddlers and their endless supply of… well, you get the idea. And the steam room? Ideal if you enjoy breathing in mould spores and risking a lung infection. Don't forget the toilets – filthy and questionable at best. In short, if you're after a gym session with bonus health hazards, look no further.
Positive experience: Good gym. Only a little bit too busy sometimes and a bit smelly. Overall it’s awesome place
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym. Really clean and every single employee I have spoken to have been incredibly helpful and kind. Not had a gym membership in a while and from my free taster day of the gym to signing up to be a full member - it's been an excellent experience.
Negative experience: This gym is awful! Since Everlast have taken over it has gone downhill, facilities need updating some of the gym’s equipment/ machines don’t work properly and needs a refurbishment put in place. Some of the staff members are very rude and just either ignore you or just don’t make you feel welcome when you arrive. Lack of communication skills from adults is just appalling really, there’s always sweat dripping off the machines which is very much unhygienic, potentially others can get ill due to this. The facilities are not disinfected, cleaned consistently, this is putting everyone at risk of cross infection and the spread of bacteria which can cause sickness. The staff are just standing around all at the reception not actually doing any work what so ever. I also enquired from a sport’s student who works here about PT courses and if it’s worth studying and I had little to no helpful advice back, I was just laughed at which is just extremely disrespectful. The staff back when DW Sports were around were genuinely hard working and would go above and beyond however these newbie students who can’t even give you proper advice and communicate within their own industry of sports is terrible. Very unprofessional staff and gym as a whole, the shower area also needs a massive refurb. The cleaning staff also need to step up as the floor needs a good scrub and clean, it’s always dirty ! The actual showers are coming out of the wall, the soaps on the side are never refilled and always empty. The Jacuzzi has been closed for 3 years this is due to laziness it’s not broken, why pay for a gym membership if you can’t get the most out of the facilities, the best staff have left this gym long time ago for a reason, it’s lost it’s reputation and purpose. Respect to Zac as he’s a good guy however I can’t say the same for the majority otherwise. Everlast step up please it’s getting ridiculous now !!
Negative experience: So annoying that there are classes for babies and children ALL DAY on a Saturday and Sunday in an already small enough pool. It’s already busy enough trying to find space to swim on a weekend when most adults go to the gym. Why don’t they hold these classes on a weekday or in a leisure centre where people aren’t paying £30 a month to use the facilities?
Negative experience: Sadly this used to be a good gym but now it’s overcrowded and the company does not care as I have highlighted it. The WiFi is awful which you need because of the signal dead spots. They closed both jacuzzi’s, changing rooms and toilets are always messy or wet. I would consider a different gym.
Negative experience: If Everlast cannot afford to keep jacuzzis running and the keep the place clean then put the cost of the membership up and run the place properly !! I for one would be content to pay more for a properly run place..!
Positive experience: Not a bad gym. However, it needs updating, decor is very old, shame the Jacuzzis don't work! Swimming pool and sauna are great and the staff are helpful.
Fantastic experience: Ignore the negative feedback this place is awesome! Has everything you need and more
Negative experience: I have been a member of the Cardiff Leckwith centre for close to 7 months now. Everlast appealed to me mainly due to the inclusion of a swimming pool, steam room and hot tubs - videos of all these facilities can still be viewed on google today. After my free trial, I was disappointed to see the hot tubs turned off and a handful of facilities out of order (two poolside showers). I joined under the impression that these would be fixed soon enough and that the hot tubs would be turned back on - 7 months on and these facilities are still out of order and have never worked, nor been turned on. To begin with, the cleanliness of the facilities was acceptable, but over time they have become disgusting. The steam room is filthy and it turns my stomach to even step foot in there anymore, the pool water is opaque and the men's shower room is constantly putrid and stinking. As time has gone on, a number of these showers have also been broken and it seems unlikely that they will ever be fixed (the same can be said for the urinal in the mens toilet). The quality of the swimming itself has also been diminished. I try not to get frustrated by the sheer volume of people in the pool when exercising, particularly those that prefer to sit or relax by the edges. If there was a dedicated place for people to do so (I.e. the HOT TUBS!!!!) then the issue wouldn't be quite so pronounced - but unfortunately it has become near impossible, at times, to fulfil my exercise regime. In light of this, I have attempted to use the the gym facilities instead (I am an avid swimmer first and foremost). While they are in somewhat better shape than the Pool, the cleanliness is even worse, with not a single anti-bac spray or blue roll in sight! Overall my experience in recent months has left me feeling angry and trapped. I am stuck in a financial commitment that leaves me feeling guilty for wasting £30 a month and frustrated for having to uphold. I signed up to use the pool facilities, the cleanliness of which now turns my stomach and has dissuaded me from swimming at all anymore. The fact that Hot tubs and Sunbeds are still advertised on Google, via video, is downright fraudulent and I would dissuade anyone from joining under false pretence.
Negative experience: No very bad experience with this gym ,be ware but they did refund my money Wich I was pleased
Positive experience: It is ok.not bad.
Negative experience: Scruffy
Fantastic experience: Lovely Gym nice and clean and the staff there are great thinking of joining myself
Fantastic experience: Only use the pool and steam room find it very good for my needs
Fantastic experience: Good pool and steam room
Negative experience: I’ve recently joined the place and I love the gym and the staff but the floor to the men’s showers are always stinking I joined as the site said there were sun beds and Jacuzzis there as well as a steam room the steam room is stinking and always smells the jacuzzi and sun beds haven’t been working at all and after speaking to other members they’re been off for a while and don’t think there coming back on the pool water looks dirty and murky the spa area needs to be brought up to standard and the beds and jacuzzis need to be turned on and the pool and steam room needs to be maintained properly I’d hold off joining as I’m thinking about moving gyms already haven’t been here 2 months
Positive experience: Great staff, always helpful at the desk but since the longstanding cleaner left (forgot his name) a year or so ago, the standards have slipped - particularly in the changing rooms/showers.
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym and pool, always clean and friendly staff, not keen on the bar code for registration though
Fantastic experience: First day in Everlast today. Staff are friendly as my sense of direction sucks and they guided me for everything, great facilities. A station to fill up your water bottle. Parking right outside. Plenty of equipment and not too busy at 8 30am. Loved the steam room too. Glad I changed gyms ️♂️
Fantastic experience: I love it here , I go 5-6 times aweek
Fantastic experience: I never been to gym in my life so I went to sign up and find out what they doing the guy explain me everything in details( can't remember his name) today I come bk for swim and gym I really enjoyed I would reccomend to my friends and family
Fantastic experience: Good gym faciltied and equipment. Nice pool and steam room.
Positive experience: Good gym but i prefer puregym
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym, members & staff very friendly. Fantastic pool with steam room. Plenty of choice of classes to choose from.
Negative experience: Dirty place
Fantastic experience: Gym is great, plenty of equipment for weights, cardio and functional training, I love it. 3 studios for yoga, cycling and circuits which is amazing! Pool and steam room to relax, and the pool had 2 lanes for proper swimming as well as plenty of room to do other things if you which.
Positive experience: There's a few things I don't like about this gym. 1, music is way too loud and it's just noise, they need to put music on to motivate a workout and a little more mellow. 2, some of the machines are broken and have been for a long time too. 3, after a workout I used to love using the jacuzzi however they have been switched off permanently. 4, I haven't been able to use the pool as it's always full of babies and put into lanes so restricts the amount of people able to use it. 5, the cleanliness has gone down hill, the floors are always grubby in the changing rooms.
Negative experience: Train here 6 days a week , other than the fact that more attachments for the cable machines need to be added and people have resorted to bringing their own I think the gym is great. On the other hand the rest of the place is filthy , the steam room constantly stinks and people are having to use oils in the steam room to hide the smell. The pool has a grime line around the water level. I joined on the premise of having facilities like the jacuzzis , cold showers and sun beds in the changing rooms - all out of order for the last 6 months with no plans to fix them. Yet the website still has them on there , surely coming close to false advertisement. The mens showers are diabolically dirty , always hair and fluff everywhere and seem to be rarely cleaned properly. The place is definitely on the decline and needs action immediately. I would hold off joining this gym if I were you.
Fantastic experience: Love the gym, they also have a steam room and pool
Negative experience: As they've not replied to my original complaint, or a subsequent one, here it is - "Morning all. So, since I fairly recently started at the Leckwith Everlast Gym, I have needed to report the cleanliness on almost every occasion - from toilets being in a state, chewing gum in the showers, empty bottles in the sauna, fluff all over the changing room floors and so on. I understand that you cannot legislate for lazy/dirty users doing these things, but it has become obvious that many of these things are not being attended to or whoever you use as claiming staff, are not doing their job between shifts. For example, the chewing gum is still there 2 weeks after first reporting it, and to add to that today, one of the showers had 100s small flies in it. A further complaint is regarding what is happening with the gym/pool & it's refurbishment. When I joined, I was told the out of use jacuzzi would be fixed within a couple of months, that the dedicated cold shower the same. The remaining working jacuzzi was a must for my decision to join as I have arthritis & it is very helpful for me. Now the second jacuzzi has also stopped working. I was initially told that it would be fixed within the week as they were struggling to balance the ph levels(?). When I enquired a week later when this was likely to happen, I have now been told they will not be fixed & will instead be converted over "as per policy" in other gyms." Additional - they remain uncleaned & worse, with shower heads coming away from the wall.
Negative experience: *****Update 15/01/24***** Just a quick update, dropped my rating from 2 star to 1. First time there in 2024 today and they've had the whole place painted black, it does look good to be fair....... but they have 4 showers out of use in the male changing rooms, both jacuzzis haven't worked for months and the cold shower in the pool area doesn't work either and this is what they've chosen to spend there budget on. You couldn't make it up! ****************** Place is a dump, manager should be retrained or sacked. Gym equipment is good to be fair, but the place is disgustingly dirty every time I go, which is about 3 times a week on average. I've been coming here for about 11 years well before it was an Everlast or DW sports. Place seems to get worse, year on year. The same chewing gum in the same places in the men's shower cubicles. (Why is no one checking the cleaner is doing their job correctly? And if they are, then how are they missing the same chewing gum that's stuck in the same places, week on week) The same dirty, smelly lockers that always smell of a musty BO and always have the same dirty marks. How often are these sanitised? The brown seats in the men's changing room have a really unpleasant BO smell to them. Again, how often are they sanitised? The men's toilets always have urine on the floor around the urinals and toilets, and smell strongly of it too. I don't think I've ever gone in there and it's smelt pleasant and not had urine on the floor- it's seriously disgusting. Why isn't this bleached and cleaned regularly? Everlast! Have your manager retrained, they're appalling!
Negative experience: Is the jacuzzi and sauna steam room up and running now or are they still not working?
Positive experience: Decent gym with good equipment
Negative experience: Was at this gym for over 6+ months cancelled my membership as joined another gym, contract stated once you’ve been a member for 6 months you can cancel, they was still taking the £30 a month off me, rang up to tell them, said I’d get my money back 2 months later still no refund
Fantastic experience: Most equipment has now been updated. Great staff. Usually enough equipment to not be waiting around too long.
Positive experience: Really enjoying my sessions at Everlast at the moment - plenty of space in the fully kitted-out gym, with bigger dumbbells than I'm used to, so there's plenty of room to grow!
Negative experience: Aqua class is often canceled they need a new trainer that's reliable
Negative experience: Avoid and go for cheaper gyms its not worth the pool is not nice and the saunas are rubbish not worth the prices ,Terrible experience, they kept taking money from my account after cancellation 3 months in a row, terrible costumer service , was calling and emailing all i get is we have a problem with the system and will get it solved asap then i get another message from bank saying 40£ sent to them ,
Positive experience: Friendly staff. Great location. No complaints.
Fantastic experience: Great staff..always really helpful and good range of classes.
Fantastic experience: Great friendly and helpful staff. It’s bigger than most other gyms in my area. PT #conditioningwithjames is the best PT instructor I have ever had.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been to most gyms in cardiff (after living in many areas) and Everlast is the best value for money, friendliness, equipment, and busyness. I’m always able to get on a machine and there have never been more than two people in the pool lane. Vernons spin class is great and both me and my daughter are members and always enjoy training together.
Positive experience: Good gym, could do with another punch bag and fixed flat bench
Fantastic experience: Well decked out gym, pool, saunas, PT and classes for a good price
Positive experience: Nice and Q today considering its Sunday
Negative experience: I went there this morning for the first time with a friend of mine, and i must say the steaming room smelled really bad, a very dirty place to be around the pool and showers. I train in another one by me and it’s 1000 times better. A standard of hygiene in the Cardiff branch it’s really poor. Very disappointed. Never ever going back there.
Positive experience: Not too crowded but sometimes loud characters can overtake the gym/swimming pool which is unsupervised. Remember to take a combination lock for the lockers as they are no longer coin operated. You can buy them there for £4 -if available on the day
Positive experience: I really like this gym however lately I have found that the cleanliness of the gym could be improved. Dirt has remained in equipment for sometime. No visible manager checking gym or asking what we think of the place. My big issue is that they have started to play truly ghastly ear banging music, which does not reflect the age span of clients. I expect some may like drill music and similar ilk, but not continually. Please do something about this.
Negative experience: Nothing more annoying when you check the opening times on the site and they’re wrong.
Negative experience: Ruined by Turtle Tots (meaning screaming toddlers everywhere) not even actual gym members!
Positive experience: Pool nice and warm, gym area is pretty clean although on occasion changing rooms have been dirty and lockers not cleaned out of rubbish, there are signs there saying "please clean lockers with wipes provided" but there are never wipes provided. Also pool side occasionally there are dirty plasters that remain there for more than one day. It's a nice enough gym and staff are nice when you speak to them tho I think it needs a bit more effort on occasions, gym could use with a better area for stretching on mats as the current one is right next to the door when you come in and is a bit exposed and never has stretch bands available.
Fantastic experience: What you get for your money is awesome. I use the gym, classes, spa and pool on a regular basis. Staff are friendly and helpful but I am missing the steam room. Hope that gets sorted out soon.
Positive experience: Staff excellent. Place has gone down hill with new owners. Steam room always out of action, toilets dirty and smell, changing area tired and dirty. Not enough staff anymore. WiFi doesn't work nor any of the apps on the machines with screens.
Fantastic experience: Love this gym
Positive experience: Good experience today in updating memmbership details. Refreshing to find staff that know how to do the basic stuff right !
Negative experience: Cancelled 12 months ago and have continued to take payments
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym..... better than all gyms in my home town of barry..... Amazing staff very helpful....
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff, quiet but busy place nice environment to work out in, love the pool sauna and jacuzzi all theyre facilities are pretty good!!
Fantastic experience: Lovely, friendly and well organised. Excellent value for money.
Negative experience: needs money spent badly as pool area falling apart, not as bad as Newport one but on its way ! look at your reviews Mike Ashley !!!!
Fantastic experience: Fsb9gym pity there is not one located in Manchester come on Everlast sort it out
Fantastic experience: Moved to the area so came back here after a few visits a few years back and I was not disappointed! The gym is really well laid out and the changing rooms are spacious. I think the décor, lockers and flooring could do with a bit of an update but all in all, a really great gym!
Fantastic experience: Staff always very happy and helpful, gym clean and tidy.
Positive experience: Needs a bigger selection off dumbbells and benches apart from that it's not a bad gym
Fantastic experience: Great gym with great selection of free weights, machines and cardio equipment. The spa area is really good, changing rooms are one of the cleanest I have been in and great price. I have read its expensive but where can anyone get full gym, pool and spa for £30?
Fantastic experience: EXCELLENT GYM AND VERY PROFESSIONALLY RUN WITH COVID RULES IN PLACE.
Fantastic experience: Good exercise equipment, polite staff.
Negative experience: They don't have a yearly basis membership. Expensive
Fantastic experience: Decent mix of free weights and machines. Large open area. Well maintained.
Positive experience: Has a good range of machines and equipped for weights or cardio. The pool is a welcome addition. It is busy in the early morning but unfortunately the wearing of masks in the gym required when entering is only that, and very few patrons use them when walking around. On the few occasions I've been i have seen people mingle and a few noisy conversations held at a distance. The lockers are the responsibility of the patrons to clean it seems.
