JD Gyms Leeds Kirkstall Road

Negative experience: Overall the Gym is quite good with ample of space, free classes and good facilities. However, I am not happy with the cancellation process time, since I am a student i need to move urgently to other city and I get mail after applying for 3 weeks prior to cancel membership. It says they will still do next month payment. Why does it take so long to reply to simple request to stop the membership while to start the gym it's within a minutes. I can start whenever I have time and can stop whenever I will so, it should not take so long for any process, its so frustrating. Please improve on these issues.

Positive experience: Good but full of students high fiving each other & looking in mirrors

Negative experience: Dirty, disgusting gym needs a deep clean, toilets like a pub gents, showers stink of foist from outside, changing rooms are grim, lockers are taken up by ppl not in the gym, i go in late when theres up to 5 in and yet 9 locjers are taken up! Roof leaks in various spots around the gym floor, equipment is regularly broken or poorly maintained, complained about broken peices of plastic and bolts under the Dumbbell racks only to be lied by duty manager about them being brought to cleaners attention and cleared away TWICE! obviously a lie, Area manager doesn't care either, no wonder the gym has a bad rep on Google, PUREGYM or TheGymGroup are way better commercial 24 hour gyms

Positive experience: Huge and lots of machines and equipment. Even a separate women’s only gym area which is fab for us girlies who aren’t comfortable being gawked at constantly when we’re just trying to stay fit. Changing rooms are clean and spacious. Lots of classes to choose from. Only giving 4 stars as there needs to be more Leg Presses for the amount of people using them as I always have to wait for ages to use it.

Negative experience: I’ve been a member here since it opened, it’s generally pretty good, with a big area and lots of equipment. However, the locker situation has been ridiculous for a while now. Most people don’t use lockers so you have to look inside loads of lockers to find a free one. Today I must have looked in 40 till I found a free one! Many of the lockers are permanently hogged for weeks and months on end. To be fair management emptied them all a few months ago, but the next day the locker hoggers were back in force! I assume this happens because people find it so difficult to find a free locker, so they hog them permanently? And the lockers often smell of weed. I think I’ll be looking for a different gym,

Positive experience: Boiling water shower

Negative experience: If I had to describe this place in one word will be "MESS". 5 cm of dust on the lights above your head, leaking roof so during exercises water falling on your body, and small puddles on the floor across the site and most of them without any warning. Machines require service, damage benches, and dumbbells not on locations nobody from the staff don't care about that. Will never go there again !

Positive experience: Perfect gym to go to for starters. I’ve recently started out here and I tend do go when it is quieter. A lot of equipment to choose from and there’s even sinks to refill your water. Toilets could definitely use a clean though as my partner found urine on the floor which is why I put 4 stars. Overall amazing and will keep my membership here!

Negative experience: Terrible gym, too busy

Negative experience: Useless staff, when you call they never answer. Had my car keys and jumper robbed out my locker (with a small padlock on it) and they said they could do nothing about it whatsoever. I had a lock on my locker - someone managed to break it off. Your lockers are terrible

Positive experience: Good facilities but does get really busy in peak times

Positive experience: Been going to this gym for many many years (used to be Exercise4less). It has a great selection of cardio machines, assisted weight machines and free weights. Does get rammed full of uni students that take ages on the machines so bear that in mind. Open 24/7 and has staff onsite until 10pm (I think). Think they’re a little tricky to get hold off online & on phone but always friendly and helpful if you go in and chat to them. Would recommend , much better than other chain gyms. Can get quite hot in the summer, would be good if they can open the shutters like they used to ?

Negative experience: I kept calling Leeds kirkstall JD gym several times as wanting to join but nobody can be bothered to answer the phone

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to the LBT classes run by Mia on Sundays for over a year. Fantastic classes, I’ve really noticed a massive improvement in my fitness. Recently started the yoga classes with Yasmin, also excellent. The classes keep me motivated to then use the rest of the gym and the machines. My experience has always been positive, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff

Fantastic experience: Customer service is top class. All advisors I've spoke to have been great. Jordan specifically, dealt with me twice, I've had a few issues with my membership which made me contemplate keeping my membership running however, he couldn't have done more for me and the way he's dealt with my issues has been a second to none. I'll definitely be keeping my membership running due to the this level of service!

Negative experience: so stupid u can go only once , ur not allowed to go more than once in the gym because ur qr code won't work. toilets always smelling terrible and not clean properly, no dedicated stretching and no foam rollers etc. a lot of the machines missing no crosstrainer . only location is good

Negative experience: Well before you get in you’re already disappointed when it takes ages to find a space in their tiny car park that that has plenty of pot holes that absolutely destroy your wheels. Get away with anything this place. Machines.. i could put my life saving that when i come in for a session there will be few cables broken, peck deck broken and a few leg machines broken. Some are even dangerous when mid rep and it just gives in. Ventilation sucks, literal sauna some days feels on the verge of passing out. Fans spin at 1mph, no air con, just open a door fgs or something?? No bins or paper towels or cleaning kit, cable clips and pins missing, attachments on their way out. Oh year and just to top it off, the roof literally leaks down onto you whilst you’re training !!! And ofc they upped the monthly cost.

Negative experience: All the instruments are either damaged or rusted and u can find dirt all over the gym and in stretching section. Not worth for the fee paid.if u r lucky u can see waterfalls from ceiling during rainy days which is almost every month.

Positive experience: Great gym but very busy constantly. They would benefit massively from having the amount of people in the gym on the app like other gyms like pure gym . This would help people to decide when to go ,rather than getting there and queuing for equipment . The other customers are very rude and leave weights laying around the floors leaving the poor staff members to put them away . Staff are always friendly and smiling.my only problem is with how many people are allowed to enter at one time .great value for monet and alot of equipment when not in use

Negative experience: Lots of cable machines but barely any handle / grip options to use with them. Parking insufficient - and a terrible place to try get across two lanes when leaving. Machines choice adequate and reasonably well maintained.

Negative experience: Oversubscribed university students ages 18-25. Very little to no professionals. Horrible atmosphere to train in. Full of rudeness and wanna be influencers filming with their tripods. Avoid 5-9pm as you won’t get any equipment. Recommend only for early morning workouts.

Negative experience: Way, way, way too many people in this gym, especially Monday night which is ridiculous, even in context of Monday being the busiest day in any gym. Absolutely chokka with students. Update: as if it couldn't get any busier in that place, it gets worse. It is a rat pen of people.... unbelievably busy with people constantly walking across or over you, taking equipment between sets and leaving their equipment everywhere, just dumping it. What was at some point a good gym and an enjoyable workout has been made thoroughly miserable by packing in as many members as possible to hit sales targets with no consideration for members

Positive experience: One of the best gyms around in Leeds. The only issue is with some lighting where we bench press where the light directly hits the eye. Rest all friendly team and clean gym with best equipments.

Negative experience: One of the worst gyms in Leeds (probably in the uk too). This gym is full of very suspicious looking people and I was a witness of people fighting for gym equipment, young people yelling, laughing and throwing equipment around and personnel pretending they do not see any of those things (probably because they are scared..)! If you are thinking about joining this gym I suggest to think again. Especially if you are a woman and afraid of your safety but also if you are a man and do not want to deal with rude (board line criminal) people.

Fantastic experience: really good for a mainstream gym. their entry is stricter and better monitored, so their clientele is better, unlike at PureGym for example. it does get really busy and lots of people still don't put weights back, but expected at chain gyms. they should really have bigger stickers at the dumbbell rack tho, and mark the plates tree as well. shout out to Paula who helped me sort out my no smartphone problem

Fantastic experience: Amazing gym . Showers smell a bit fishy and no power from showers plus they are timed so keep switching off every 30 secs but weights and gym very clean

Negative experience: Seems like a great gym initially. I have been going for a month now, almost everyday and early mornings. Never once have I seen the weights put in order. It's frustrating because they are never put back properly and so no one ever feels the need to put them back where they should, because you can't! This is understandable. I have seen plenty of staff about but yet I have never seen them attempt to reorder any of the weights!

Positive experience: Music is literally awful..please turn that off. Other than that great

Negative experience: This gym is just exercise4less but they changed the sign to JD 2 sessions in there both early Sunday and it was very busy so can just imagine through the week. Broken monitor in ladies room on rowing machine Mismatched kettle bells in ladies room Old broken stair-master in main gym making funny noise, had to get off machine. No staff around to report faults to. Plates are all over the place very unorganised. Not enough leg press machines for size of gym. Cancelled the gym within 14 day period and it’s taking 20 days to get a refund what a joke of a gym.

Negative experience: Overcrowded, to say the least. Rude customers not bringing the weights back: you're going to spend half of your time looking for the second dumbbell, so you can, at least, make a set.. Ah, no. You can't, because the bench is broken. And outside is raining, and the water start trickling from the roof. Well, better if you leave at this point. The Cardigan Arms isn't far: people may stop you from lifting weights, but they can't stop you from lifting a pint!!

Negative experience: FOR GODS SAKE TIGHTEN THE SCREWS ON THE LEG EXTENSION MACHINE! I don't understand why you don't have a maintenance person for such a large gym, there is only one leg extension for the entire gym, it has been wonky for months, all it needs is someone to tighten both screws as it's wobbling at the bottom. I will turn this this into 5 star if this is carried out! There are a bunch of people complaining about this. Edit- nice to know you have a standard reply and you don't actually read the review, I've sent an email to you, no response.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with lots equipment. Going earlier is a good shout if you want to work out in space as it does get busy quickly being a very popular gym. I've never had a problem getting on any of the machines and they gym is always clean and tidy.

Negative experience: Friendly staff, but gets far too busy, can be pretty grotty at times and quite a bit of the equipment is broken at the moment - wouldn't say it was worth 20 quid per month.

Negative experience: I do not recommend it, they stole my money from me, I asked for a refund, and they did not answer me, and the gym is very full. I lost my headphones, and they did not give them to me.

Negative experience: FOR THE MANAGERS ATTENTION. I do go to other JD branches and I must say this one stands out (in a bad way). 1) MAJOR PROBLE - SHOWER TEMPERATURE!!! You can boil an egg in that shower, literally went to try a year ago and today was the same problem. Am I the only one to complain about that, really??? I’ve noticed there is no people showering, like EVER - if that’s was your goal, you have succeeded. 2) all rope machines never right (they require regular service and lubes others wise impossible to use, there is like 2 out of 6 machines that work right… THESE 2 major problems were there a year ago and still there now. I will revise that review after they get sorted and I will wait for the managers reply to my review. Regards, Pavel.

Negative experience: Absolute pants ....sweatiest smelliest gym I've ever been in .the fans on the ceiling are laughable in main gym ive seen a snail move faster . Last time was in, the air con in women's section was off, the door was shut an it stunk to high heaven..had to leave(short of vomiting) as the manager was too busy to see to me an the dude who came to help couldn't cuz he said he can't go in the ladies section. Dead vibes in this gym . Can't beat north . Best staff,can't do enough for you.. and THE AIR CON IS ALWAYS ON !

Negative experience: Might as well advertise free sauna with membership. No circulation, no air con, nothing. Unbearable to work out in. Also it leaks from ceiling…

Negative experience: Great looking gym, I had a good session there today however recieved a very rude welcome from a staff member. I am a new member, I tried using my code to access the gym. The code didn't work, not really an issue as I have the app I can scan to get in. However a member of staff leaning on the wall inside shouted at me saying "I've told you three times now the codes don't work". Rather than coming over where I could hear him (I am deaf in one ear) he just kept leant on the wall inside and shouted. Really basic this one, please help educate staff members like this chap to put even a shred of effort into customer service. I'm sure the other staff are much better but this guy really let the side down today. Really disappointed.

Positive experience: Bit busy and they don’t keep the equipment in great condition but it is cheap and big!
