Our comment from FitFit UK about Wavelengths Leisure Centre:
Wavelengths Leisure Centre, located in London, United Kingdom, offers a variety of facilities and services that appeal to families and fitness enthusiasts alike. The centre features a clean and spacious leisure pool that is especially enjoyed by children and those looking to have fun in the water.
Visitors frequently highlight the following positive aspects:
- Friendly Staff: Many users have praised the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, making it a welcoming environment.
- Variety of Facilities: The centre includes a fitness pool, a sauna, a steam room, and a soft play area for children, catering to different age groups and interests.
- Excellent for Swimming: The leisure pool is often described as a great place for swimming lessons, with a nice depth range for kids.
However, some aspects need improvement:
- Cleanliness Issues: Several reviews indicate a consistent problem with the cleanliness of the changing rooms and showers, which impacts the overall experience.
- Crowding and Management: Feedback suggests that the swimming pools can become crowded, particularly during peak times, and that management should be more proactive in maintaining order.
- Temperature of Water: There are ongoing concerns about the temperature of the water in the pools and showers, which can be cold.
Overall, while Wavelengths Leisure Centre is viewed positively as a local community resource, attention to cleanliness and management effectiveness would greatly enhance the visitor experience.

Wavelengths Leisure Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: I went swimming during the day on a Friday and the pool and changing rooms were peaceful and clean. The staff on Reception were really friendly.
Positive experience: Decent pool that isn't too busy. Could do with a bit of a clean
Positive experience: I recently went for the first time and I read all the reviews here before visiting. Yes it’s a bit grotty. A cleaner visiting the changing rooms and toilets a few times a day would solve it. The worst thing I saw was a urinal full of urine. A lot of the dirt is just from regular use (e.g shoes on a wet changing room floor) so I feel like it’s a really easy fix. The sauna and steam room were very busy (some people had to stand) with a chatty vibe so far from “zen” or relaxing, but I think if you don’t mind that then it won’t be an issue for you. It wasn’t so bad that I wouldn’t return, but it was bad enough that if I had a better kept alternative (at a similar price point) I wouldn’t use Wavelengths again. I’m hoping the new Canada Water leisure centre will be cleaner.
Fantastic experience: One of my favourite better gyms. Really helpful and friendly staff and good facilities.
Negative experience: Better as an organization is a massive scam. Got a subscription to swim then was told it mostly really just makes sense to swim once a week on a working schedule. Then had to pay 3.5£ extra to do a swimming class and then was charged 3£ because I allegedly didn't attend (I did). Staff at the leisure centre are very kind and the atmosphere is nice.
Fantastic experience: Thank you Andrei for the swimming lessons to and being very supportive it was a great help. I wish that all life guards where like you friendly, ready to help and very supportive too
Positive experience: I just want to counteract some of the negativity here and say that I regularly use the gym and it's (generally) always clean and well maintained. It's rarely too busy to use the machine I want, which is great. Also, the memberships may be expensive if you're just using the gym, but they also include swimming and classes, which makes is a surprisingly good deal if you make use of all three. Only rating 4 stars as the swimming pool area is sometimes a bit dirty, especially the changing rooms. I wish they'd clean them a bit more often. I don't mind the general 70s-era shoddiness of the fixtures and fittings, but it should at least be cleaned more often.
Positive experience: Sadly we have felt we can't use this pool any more as it just isn't heated properly. Particularly in winter.
Negative experience: They completely blocked out the only feature that makes the soft play area inviting and pleasant for children! What used to be a nice light filled space is now a dark and dingy cave. It’s already limited in terms of local choices for soft play areas in winter and good party venues. This is all because the general manager had found this to be the best solution for privacy and to make the space feel brighter and livelier! Blocking out the entire window and all source of natural light, so a translucent film is not enough privacy, they had the film on both sides of the window, front and back! Absolutely disappointing!
Negative experience: No disabled changing area visible half the cubicles locks didn't work the pool was dirty, even though we were booked in the leisure pool we were told it was closed and shown to the fitness pool the ladder to get out was very unstable especially for someone with less movement ability. Half the shower's didn't work or ran freezing cold. No proper resting area for breaks during sauna or steam room just plastic chairs. Saw lots of small fly's around. Then found out the hairdryers didn't work. Very disappointed won't be returning will attend glass mill pool instead.
Fantastic experience: Went for a birthday party in the private upstairs soft play area - really great space and the kids loved it! Pool looks fantastic and family friendly, will be back to try!
Negative experience: Affordable swimming pool, with a nice leisure pool for toddlers / kids, however: it's incredibly busy on the weekend from the first session at 10am, I was also very surprised by the low level of cleanliness. Do no walk bare feet on the floor... facilities are very very dirty and don't seem cleaned even from 10am on a Sunday.
Negative experience: I’ve been a long-time customer across your London venues, but this centre has serious ongoing issues. The timetable on the website never matches the actual schedule, and the sauna is consistently closed despite being listed as open. The showers are filthy and have been in disrepair for months, with dead flies on the walls in the men’s changing rooms—completely unacceptable. Staff have mentioned senior management doesn’t listen or make changes. As a loyal customer, I expect better. This needs to be addressed immediately.
Negative experience: terrible costumer service experience in reception (they forced me to buy a membership online through the app~ app that doesn’t work). “pending” transaction means pending doesn’t mean denying! my bank approve it, i even called the bank costumer service to confirm it. but the guy was very much sure i didn’t purchase it! i will definitely find another swimming pool as this one is really poor in managing! also 2£ discount for student, a joke.
Positive experience: The fitness pool is good and not too busy, plus I find the price pretty acceptable. However, the men's changing rooms are very dark, very warm and some of the cubicles' locks don't work, and I've witnessed many instances of slower swimmers being in the wrong lane and nobody ever intervenes, which can be frustrating.
Positive experience: Cleanliness needs to be massively improved in the changing area of the leisure pool. Many showers are broken and the rest are cold.
Positive experience: Affordable pool for kids. Has lockers and showers. Gets busy on weekends.
Negative experience: Me and my friends arrived at place and they had made us download an app just to book even though we just booked at Desk. Started telling us about the Policy after almost half of us payed even though we should know before. Also didn't warn us if we fail a swimming test we wouldnt be able to remain in place and not get a refund. after we failed the swimming test we wanted our money back since we wasnt told about all this policy at the front desk but they chosen not to. The worker at the desk started making some exuse while we ask to just stay at the shallow why we cant .The worker that did our swimming test didn't really have a nice tone or a nice attitude about it . this also applies to the person i believe was the manger. we left with no refund or not much kindness from workers and any apology since we are kids.
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool,very clean,
Negative experience: Soft play is still good but wavelenghts is no waves no more took them away and the slides. Such a shame loved this place when I was a kid. They used to have waves, shoots and water sprays with water fall. Rubbish now do not recommend.
Negative experience: Krishna on the front desk is so unnecessarily rude every single time I visit. And not just to me, to everyone I see going to the desk. He either completely blanks you, doesn't say a single word to you or even acknowledge you while you are trying to make a payment or is on his phone watching a video making you wait until he's finished his video before serving you. So so rude and puts a sour taste in my mouth every time I come. The facility is fantastic, but this guy is something else and ruins it all so can't recommend a visit.
Negative experience: The Management obviously doesn't know what a SAUNA is and to provide with essentials for health benefits such as: a cold water hose, which is essential after the sauna, nor a small pool to dip into (that was there before the renovation). There is no place to rest between sessions All you can do is sit on upright plastic chairs in front of the door | When I was there it was crowded with 10 people!! A man had to stand in the sauna! the same applies to the steam room, both rooms are too small | Cleanliness is bad | It was only after a while that someone appeared at the entrance desk, everyone can go in and out | However, the staff I met were friendly - I want my money back !!!
Positive experience: It was hard to give the full five the reason being is that it needs a good clean . It is very dusty in there, parents were sitting in the sections with their coffee and children juice bottles. Apart from that the price is really good and the kids had fun
Negative experience: Visited for the first time today with my son for a swimming session. Facilities were generally OK but my one star review revolves around catching the lifeguard drifting off to sleep on multiple occasions throughout the session, which is totally unacceptable. Having witnessed and experienced many accidents in the pool, both minor and major, safety in the pool should be a lifeguards number one priority, even when it appears everyone is a competent swimmer. I won’t be returning here until the staff are competent at their jobs.
Positive experience: Probably one of the best leisure pools in the area, but it's pretty dirty sometimes.
Fantastic experience: It's not a big ball pit but the kids enjoy it, the seating area has been made smaller. 1 thing I can't stand is parents letting there kids eat in the ball pit when this is what causes mice in ballpits. Which I have worked in many and believe me, they get mice. So if your a parent reading this, don't let your kids eat in the ball pit cause your be the 1st to complain when you see a mouse.
Negative experience: I can only comment on the fitness pool. It's usually not very busy and the changing areas are decent enough. The main problem with the pool is there are people swimming in the middle or slow lane when they're clearly supposed to be in fast or in the middle, and I've even seen some men wearing diving fins in the pool and swim in the slow lane —surely it's obvious that this is not open sea and you should be doing this somewhere else. The people responsible for the pool, the lifeguards maybe, should be warning people who do this.
Negative experience: Genuinely baffled how anyone could have so little shame as to continue operating an establishment while it smells this much like piss. Either fix your bloody drainage system or close this place down. Absolutely disgusting, do not go here.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful exercise classes, sauna & steam room (+pool/gym)
Fantastic experience: Very clean water and warm, we had a great time with my kids.
Fantastic experience: Not been to this venue for over 10 years! Me & my husband used to take our children every Sunday morning. But the wave machine & the flumes are not operational anymore! Me & my husband enjoyed a non busy deep end swim for 1hr! Will be going next Sunday morning too! Thanks wavelengths!
Positive experience: Really like this place to swim with 3 year old. The elephant slide is perfect, clean and pleasant changing area. Seated area for nursing mums etc. Three stars because I often get all the way there and swim lessons are on and needlessly take the whole side of pool, where toddlers like to jump in. My daughters favourite thing to do! Please can you leave some of the side for children to jump in where it’s not too shallow. Also, there are no private shower areas and water only comes on when you hold button, So you can’t really wash chlorine out of your hair properly when caring for children. Feel like these things could easily be changed to make it five stars.
Negative experience: Pool changing room & locker area are often disgusting - I got a foot infection from the floor! No one seems to wipe down equipment in the gym (staff or members!). Staff are very friendly but the hygiene needs serious improvement.
Positive experience: For the price you pay it's so hilariously bad and mismanaged. They also have raised the monthly fee now, so i'm sorry but i can't justify paying that. The swimming pool is probably what consumes most of the costs, but I am not even using it. Toilets never working, showers are dirty, music is terrible, i mean...
Positive experience: Come here most mornings before work & always greeted by very friendly receptionists and sometimes lifeguards. two of the lifeguards (two girls I can’t remember their names but they both wear glasses and one is quite tall the other has curly hair) are always so friendly to me despite it being so early. They’re always able to answer my questions and are very knowledgeable about the centre when they’re not sat in their chair. They really make me feel welcome and contribute to the culture at wavelengths. I see that lots of the reviews say the changing rooms are dirty but when I go in the mornings that’s not the case and I always the the life guard with curly hair cleaning in there !!! I think it might be the men’s changing rooms letting the sides down a bit haha I will say though that it seems like management doesn’t listen to the lifeguards !! Whenever I report problems like they showers being broken or needing a water fountain by the sauna and steam they don’t listen to them
Fantastic experience: What a delight wonerfull centre excellent design..clean good changing and facilties with pool side sauna..without doubt on of the top five pools of the 65 pools i have visited this winter...
Negative experience: My experience with at Wavelengths over the past few years has been a rollercoaster ride. While the trainers are generally excellent, providing top-notch instruction and support, the overall experience is marred by consistent issues. Classes are chronically oversubscribed, leading to frustration and disappointment when equipment runs out or classes are overbooked. The gym's understaffing exacerbates these problems, resulting in long wait times and subpar service. Equipment maintenance is sorely lacking, with broken machines often left unfixed for extended periods. It's disheartening to pay for services that are frequently unavailable due to equipment issues. Cleanliness standards at both the gym and pool leave much to be desired, which is concerning for a facility promoting health and wellness. Despite these shortcomings, the dedication and skill of the trainers shine through, providing a silver lining to an otherwise lackluster experience. The two stars are purely for them and nothing else. Management must address these persistent issues to elevate the overall quality.
Negative experience: I have been a member at Wavelengths for around two years now but am increasingly frustrated at their offering and overall experience at the gym. Around a year ago, I arrived at the gym at opening time (6.30am) to find that a staff member had not turned up for their shift meaning the centre wasn't able to be opened. I lodged a complaint with Better health around this but it took 4 months before I was contacted on my complaint. As compensation, Mark, centre manager at Wavelengths, told me I would receive a month's complimentary membership - to date this promise was never fulfilled by Better Health. We have just received notice that the monthly membership cost is increasing to £45.75 making this incredibly expensive for what is on offer. The gym opens relatively late in the morning compared to other gyms in the area and has a very poor offering of equipment. There is only one squat rack, and two benches in the free weight area. In addition, the centre has made the confusing decision to allow a school to bring a class of around 30 children to the gym at Friday lunchtimes who all sit on equipment talking to each other rather than actually using anything. The only saving grace for Wavelengths is George who usually works the morning shifts and actually works to keep the gym tidy and clean where as other staff members sit in the office on their phones. All in all I highly recommend avoiding this centre and I will be cancelling my membership at the next opportunity.
Positive experience: I come here for the pool which is very good but there are too many restrictions when its not accessable.
Positive experience: Comfortable swimming pool, not warm enough water in the showers. No crowds, well organised intervals of booking time but occasionally the system is down, therefore enabling you pay only full price instead what your membership entailes to you.
Fantastic experience: If you can get over the smell of urine and avoid the toilets you'll enjoy the facilities
Negative experience: The worst centre management, dirty changing rooms. Lifeguards behaviours if it that I’m private playground.. Website just as bad!
Positive experience: The pool is good but I don't understand the wide lane idea. Why not have 6 normal lanes? Might be ok if you're bobbing around or doing breaststroke but if you want to swim freestyle you have to swim across the wide lane to turn. It really slows you down and you end up bumping into people. Also the sauna situation is disgusting with chemicals going into the pool. Awful.
Positive experience: I use this pool to swim. You can find some quiet moments when the pool isn’t too busy. There is limited access in the evenings which is not great if you want to go after work. Changing rooms are tired.
Fantastic experience: Om Tat Sat ♂️ I began to teach traditional Hatha Yoga at this centre. The centre is beautifully refurbished, and the Upstairs Calm Studio is a great, airy space to practice. The students and staff are very friendly. Join me here every Tuesday from 7 to 8 AM. Namaste
Fantastic experience: Lovely soft play area for a children's party.. The play area was well equipped and clean.. Nice space for upto 20 children to sit down to eat. The staff were very helpful too.
Positive experience: + Nice wide lanes in a not very busy pool, very relaxing swim. However, - dirty changing rooms and the showers are rarely hot warm or even warm!
Negative experience: Dirty and helpless staff. I have one month left as I cancelled my membership but I can still make use of the gym for a month. I called because I have a fit note and I can't go to the gym for medical reasons and they can't change it or give me a refund so I paid for this month but can't use it.
Positive experience: Nice pool with family changing area. Shame 6 year old who can swim a whole length can use the deeper side of the pool under supervision.
Negative experience: I called to see if they had available. They send you via one control centre and then the customer service guy (who was nice) had to call them. It's ridiculous to go via a third party when you just need to call and speak to someone directly there. He then cut me off by accident but did call me back to tell me the children's pool is not open until 4 pm. What's the point of having a child pool if you can't use it???
Positive experience: Nice little soft play I had no idea about until my friend invited us on a playdate! I Used to live in Deptford so coming to wavelengths was something we did every Sunday! Was super gutted to see the Deptford Dipper and Deptford Dodger slides had been removed! It was the highlight of this place! Now there's lots of space and not alot going on with it, very plain looking. The Softplay is nice and small so you can your children no matter where you sit or stand which is great as I have 3 of them to protect lol! Booked through the better website. Pay by phone Parking on the next road by phone only no option to pay cash.
Negative experience: Need to be more family orientated. The swim for all that we can book as a family is for 16.00-17.00. Seriously one hour?!
Fantastic experience: Great place, helpful staff, water was clear and good. Gym was good, as always…with almost all better centres, more functional space instead of expensive space consuming weights machines. Great building. Will visit again. Think a lot that staff should be paid more, Better could provide preventative community based health through the NHS. Would cost the state less in the long term, sorry gone off subject here dreaming of a Better world etc…
Positive experience: Good local leisure centre but it has a lot of inconsistencies. Last time i visited the pool was freezing. The lifeguard said she knew it was cold and asked management to turn it up and they refused. They should at least warn their customers especially those with children that the temperature is low. The ballpit is very basic but ok for a toddler. The cafe used to be great but seems to have gone downhill since they kept it in house.
Fantastic experience: Very good softplay area. Good value for one hour session. Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Negative experience: The facilities are new but the pool is constantly booked for private clubs at prime hours.
Positive experience: Visited the pool for baby swim class. Class was nice, friendly and felt safe but the changing facilities for parents of babies are quite limited and hard to find. Lockers still seem to require a pound coin which is a bit archaic
Positive experience: Good space for maximum 15 kids with parents of course. The person who is looking around is very kind. All the area is clean and well designed. The person who sells the tickets and the one on the deli, not approachable plus you can use the #better membresey if you come from another #better.
Fantastic experience: Great place for swimming lessons for the kids and you can swim while you wait for them. Good soft play for birthday parties as well.
Positive experience: Swimming lessons, I feel they're crowded and a bit all over the place. Some good teachers, just wish the group was smaller to help a little more with the timid ones. The toilets by the swimming pool smell so bad it makes you gag lots of people were complaining about this, wonder if something has been done now? I've not used the gym here, so I can't comment. It's got everything you need for a family, pool, gym, soft play, coffee shop.
Positive experience: It’s okay but could use some more gym equipment and knowledgeable people who know what the prices are for the different memberships and classes The whole place seems a bit run down and some staff look really depressed and unhappy in their job
Positive experience: Love the swimming pool but hope they will upgrade soft-play area for children
Negative experience: this is addressed to the owner : I live in New Cross and I need to join a gym close to my home, so one of my friend mentioned me about this Centre in Deptford, close to Costa Coffee, and so I went phisically to ask information this morning (Wed 3rd May 2023) around noon. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with two persons at the reception: firstly a woman around 35yrs with red hairs, nothing bad or rude but very cold welcome (actually no welcome) and she seems like very tired to stay there to give information to potential customers who ask how does it work the gym. After that, I came inside to have a look at the gym machines and atmosphere inside, and the second person of the staff was even worst: he was an oriental guy, maybe India ethnicity or origin, and he seems very bored actually incredibly to stay there just to answer questions of potential customers, all the time he looked elsewhere while I was asking normal questions about swimming-pool, monthly rolling agreement and other, and all the time he looked elsewhere while he tiredly answered. It seemed like he was wasting his time. Maybe he is annoyed because outside is a beautiful sunny day and he's forced to stay inside instead, I thought. Maybe he does not like his job, I thought. In this case, why he does not change? He will have the chance to invest his time in a better way for him and at the same time the owner of the gym could have the chance to welcome potential customers with a simple smile. Nothing special, just a smile, and a minimum of kindness. Thanks for the attention. Natalino
Negative experience: Double book my grandaughters birthday. If we had not checked booking we would have never known absolute shambles. Only had a hour instead of 1hr and 20 mins whi h was stated on the website. If your going to book I would double check
Positive experience: This is the best GLL Better leisure centre in area. The staff are so friendly and approachable. I’ve really appreciated support from gym staff floor with weight lifting. The blonde receptionist is a real asset she is great. Topaz runs great classes in the week and I’m grateful for the community of women I’ve been fortunate to connect with here. My favourite classes is Angella Zumba on a Sunday and Aqua on Tuesdays (wish she did more) and Topaz Barre fit Mondays and Wednesdays and Friday Zumba with Topaz, also great how Topaz and Rhian have a couple of mornings a week with a series of classes with lovely women and friendly informal atmosphere. I’ve brought friends along who are intimidated by classes knowing they would feel safe in these classes. I have disabilities that I’ve felt have been supported and appreciated Topaz check ins and support. Downside to this place and it’s consistent with all GLL gyms is the higher management do not hire enough cleaners / maintenance people, I don’t know if they expect the other staff to do it but they shouldn’t, there should be well paid frequent cleaning and maintenance staff, how can every single GLL changing room and toilets be so disgusting? I think it clearly needs more investment in staff. Sort it out!
Fantastic experience: We’re taking our 15 months old for swimming classes every Monday and it’s great. Soft play area is perfect for smaller babies as it doesn’t get much crowded. We were even in there alone a couple of times.
Positive experience: 2 Pools, 1 for general swim and 1 for swim fit, sauna, steam room, gym and classes, open daily up to 10pm apart from week end till 6pm. No private parking.
Positive experience: Good options for swimming sauna and steam room. But you have to book ahead every time and the water has been cold the last few times I've been with my daughter. And since she's a baby I don't like how they say its warm when my daughter is getting cold.
Negative experience: Fitness Pool used to be amazing when reopened after renovation and pandemic. Within just over a year showers are broken, the pool area and changing rooms are dirty and worst of all since steam room and sauna opened hygiene has gone down hill. People from the steam room go into the fitness pool without proper shower; could they as showers are not working properly, and are too hot for post steam while too cold to have a shower after swimming. Furthermore because of the steam room on the side of the fitness pool people (men) linger, making it unpleasant to swim. Staff does not enforce hygiene regimes and overall cleaning practices are shocking. Sad that this pool with so much potential has gone downhill. Better management is needed.
Negative experience: Due to no information on the better website to inform people if the fumes are on, I contacted the main reception who reinsured me they were open. I booked and arrived only to find out the fumes were not on and in fact have been removed since January. Once in the pool, the waves machine was not working as well as the warm water to shower. Not impressed.
Negative experience: The worst leisure centre in all of London! Their customer service was terrible, they wouldn’t let me in the pool because I had 3 children and that’s too many apparently. They babbled on about their company policy and T & Cs. It’s not that deep! The only good part about this excuse of a family fun centre is the people at the register when you first walk in. They gave me a refund quickly. However I still wasted an hour of my time and my kids were unhappy. Dont go to this place at all!
Fantastic experience: Haven't been for many years (since they had flumes) pleasantly suprised, clean changing rooms and pools. Will definitely return
Fantastic experience: Wavelengths is our 'go to' , first choice for swimming, softplay ect. I have to share that the staff I have dealt with personally through my years ( with gaps in between) have been nothing but helpful when iv needed. Defo rate the centre & the staff iv dealt with
Negative experience: Hi All, I would like to advise everyone with average to standard expectations to avoid this leisure centre. I have just received the worst type of verbal abuse by not only members of the gym, but also members of Staff. As the only woman offering personal training in this leisure centre I was expecting for some support and guidance when needed. Instead I have found myself distressed and traumatised by the series of events of abuse, ever since I started working at Wavelengths leisure centre in September 2022. Every single incident was completely uninvited, reported and never investigated. If no action is taken after today’s incident I will be looking to move my business to a different gym and I will be taking all of my clients with me. It is a shame because there are so many lovely people in the community, but the lack of management and staff members on shift have meant this leisure centre is not really being managed at all. Half the time you will see the fitness instructors meant to be on the gym floor to look after members and staff on shift, are not to be seen on the gym floor, to cover other areas like the canteen or reception. The ‘managers’ spend most of their shift on the pool side covering for missing lifeguards. The cleaners are only in very early in the morning and at night, which means the toilets and showers and a complete state during the day when I have clients coming to see me. I understand we are going through a recession, but if as a COMPANY you are unable to run your leisure centre properly, maybe you shouldn’t run it in the 1st place.
Positive experience: Great pool + love the soft play area which can be booked for birthdays! the kids love it. However, the better online booking system can definitely be improved to make it easier to book activities at the centre.
Fantastic experience: Clean and convenient. Friendly staff.. Warm and clean changing areas. Nice pool for kids' lessons and nice shallow gradual "beach" entrance to the main pool
Positive experience: Mixed bag. Gym is quite small but functional. Swimming pools and sauna/steam are good but no separate showers and it is extremely awkward. Also mixed changing rooms with "kids". Walked into the female changing rooms and had mothers with teen/pre teen boys and it was extremely uncomfortable. Please add family changing rooms.
Positive experience: A bit rough and ready but the leisure pool is amazing for kids. Always warm and lots of variety in depth so it's good for kids of all ages.
Negative experience: Becoming very irritated and annoyed about the showers after swimming, especially since winter is in full effect. The shower temperature is so appalling it might as well be cold. I can't imagine how many kids are getting colds/sick due to the cold showers then going out in the cold. The issue needs to be rectified immediately. Not once have I swam since this problem and not had a cold and I frequent the leisure centre twice a week. Surely health and safety needs to be questioned ?
Negative experience: Edit: attaching what the bottom of the pool looks like. This is a health hazard and safety risk. Plasters and napkins are standard but what looked like a rotting fruit was particularly bad. It was there for several weeks and was only removed after I showed the video. Sadly, complaints about this are not taken seriously. Staff are really friendly though. — Original review: Today I witnessed a horrific cleaning practice: the lifeguard was scooping water out of the pool with a mop bucket and pouring it over the poolside floor. The dirty water was then running off the poolside floor back to the pool complete with dirt, hair and everything else you might see. The mop that the staff member should have been using was propped against the wall. Usually a nice local pool but cleaning practices leave much to be desired.
Positive experience: Generally the pool facilities have been really clean but twice since the start of 2023 the men's changing rooms have been quite dirty, as have the walkway by the lockers. Would really appreciate it if floors could be given a regular quick mop. It makes a real difference to the swim and general vibe. The open plan showers also seem much weaker than previously.
Fantastic experience: 4.5 stars. Three double lanes for lane swimming. Good pool. Book a 50-minute spot online. Wasn’t too crowded at 11 a.m. on a January Tuesday. Benches, hooks, cubicles in the women’s and men’s change rooms. Showers not in change rooms but on the pool deck, some in cubicles. Lockers on pool deck - bring a one-pound coin. Hair dryers (free) are outside the change rooms in the hallway.
Positive experience: Nice leisure centre with well equipped gym and leisure pool. Shame showers weren’t all working and the cafe didn’t have any fruit but did have vending machines full of sweets. It would be great if leisure pool was open more hours and had some flumes like the old days.
Positive experience: lovely but would be great if they had some men and women separate sauna times and a cold shower.
Fantastic experience: It's very good place, I really loved it and decided to take my 15 months baby every week. She really enjoys and feels happy.
Positive experience: We went to the soft play, amazing time spent by all. Had to help clean after the party before us. But over all an okay experience
Fantastic experience: Today was a good swim. Especially because of the lifeguard Connor. I was struggling to swim and he gave really good advice and help, which helped me to swim a lot better, you just have to be open to advice. Funnily enough, the week before when I came I felt I was going to die in the water and this week I felt as if I am going to live in the water. Many thanks, definely coming back
Negative experience: Spent 30 minutes waiting to get through to them on the phone to ask if I was allowed to bring two children to swim as some pools only allow one. The operator did not know and when I asked if she could find out she put the phone down on me! That is pretty Incredible! Please go bankrupt Better and allow a REAL better organization to run the leisure centers. We are all tired of these inefficient organizations being a blight on our society.
Negative experience: Gym is alright, but has no culture - visitors don’t put their weight back. Huge bloke just casually left 120kg on a bar after bench pressing and went home. I wish staff try to encourage people to be polite a bit more.
Fantastic experience: Went for some 'Splash' inflatable obstacle course with my 8 year old. No complaints. Enjoyed the experience.
Fantastic experience: We always enjoy swimming there with my 2.5yo son. Very well equipped and both children and parents enjoy the experience.
Negative experience: Why does the temperature of the water have to be so cold? ..and when I complained to the lady at the front, instead of being understanding, she said instead that it wasn't true because if it was, somebody would have told her. But, thank God I have read the review and another person has written about the water being cold. My children refused to come into the water for the first 10 minutes, we had to force them and ended up upset and sitting at the edge instead- this was last week Thursday/Friday. We then went to Better Thamesmead which is far for us, the water was (not as warm as the pool in Devon) but better than wavelength 's. I guess they will still deny. It's difficult for my family with young "skinny" children
Negative experience: Water is so cold. Whilst there a father had to get his toddler out of the pool because his lips were blue! Price is ridiculous considering you only get a 50 minute slot.
Negative experience: First time swimming in wavelength after covid. During kids summer decided to take them all out. Booking went smoothly and entrance. Was told only told water was colder than normal which wasn’t too bad until we all got change as usual entering the pool was stop by lifeguards telling us we had to do a swim test 1 out of 9 people if they fail the next one has to do the swim test or the whole group had to leave When 1 child who has a heart condition desperate wanted to swim she opt to swim. After swimming there and back she was then told she wasn’t allow to stop to take any breath it had to go straight one side to the other without stopping. It was the most stupid rules over 8 could go swimming by themselves and after speaking to them it was the policy they said if someone drowns that person in the group had to go and save them. If you want to have fun better in the garden. No floats, waves or anything was out. Not fun at all waste of money 3 lifeguards all on phones
Positive experience: Well. It has a pool. The pool has water in it. Clean water. Warm ish water. Wet water. The funswim pool has a varied layout and range of depths making it great for babies all the way through to capable swimmers. The changing "village" is usually clean. The Life guards seem to take their role seriously and pay attention to the swimmers. The sad news is that the flumes have been removed (no money to maintain), the wave machine is currently broken and no money to fix... And well... They're doing their best to find some funds, but for now, it's just a pool.
Positive experience: I really wanted to give this swimming pool 5 stars but I just can't. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful on our first arrival. Reception and pool are great but I felt a little grim after seeing mouse poo around the back by the spa pool. Just by a mouse trap. My children loved their visit to this pool. Its very children friendly. I would however take into account that there is a ratio of 1 parent to 2 non swimmer children (I had an 18 month old and 12 year old). We were only allowed to stay if my daughter (3rd child) could swim.
Negative experience: My visit with the children after reopening, wasn’t exactly present. The family changing room had a broken lock, resulting in other opening the door as we were changing. The floors were also far from clean, woman’s toilets were also very unsanitary. The pool was absolutely freezing cold, apparently they needed to top it up. I would of appreciated being told up on arrival, we stayed in the pool for 4 minutes and truly couldn’t stand the temperature any longer. To make something of the trip we went to the spa area, no jets, no bubbles and again absolutely freezing. We had to leave. I’d recommend telling customers that the temperature isn’t as normal when entering. Complete wasted trip and money. When I asked the staff why people wasn’t told, they said ‘most don’t mind, you get used to it after a while’
Fantastic experience: Wavelengths is a great community resource. Two good swimming pools anď the 25m pool never gets too busy due to timed slots. Soft play is very popular with my granddaughter. I can't wait to use the gym. 'Better' leisure who run Wavelengths offers free swim and gym sessions for users aged 60+ and concessions on other activities. I love this place.
Fantastic experience: Much improved and am now a regular visitor and a new member. When I first attended this 3 years ago I was quite appalled at the state of it. It was dirty, a little run down and if I recall the fitness pool was quite cold. I simply didn't enjoy going there. The makeover I would say is a big success, and staff seem good to. For that reason I can highly recommend Wavelengths. Management need to reopen the health suite and ensure they keep the venue and showers clean going forward.
Negative experience: EDIT 3: Poor old Wavelengths! Showers broken. Again. Changing rooms filthy as usual. These would be bearable, as the pool is OK once you get in. However, it was a huge mistake to put the sauna and steam room next to the fitness pool. People are using the pool to wash themselves as the showers are broken. Lanes are frequently blocked by people who can't swim bobbing around in front of you. There's always at least one person who can't or won't follow the 'swim clockwise' directions, even when it's pointed out to them. If you can't swim or just want to float about like you're on holiday there is a leisure pool just in the next room. Lifeguards won't enforce any rules (no non-swimmers, no lane blocking, swim clockwise etc). Even when there's clearly a situation developing right in front of them they just carry on staring in to space. Wavelengths is a great local asset and it's a shame to see it so run down with such low staff morale EDIT 2: Things are improving at Wavelengths. The water is a lot cleaner and the showers work now. EDIT: I've downgraded my review from 5 stars. Wavelengths is great but I can't believe how much it has suffered since the last time I was there 6 months ago. The changing room and poolside are filthy. There was rubbish and dirt on the floor yesterday that was still there today. The water is thick like soup and made my skin crawl but none of the showers work so I couldn't wash it off. Such a shame. Wavelengths is a fantastic place but it needs some TLC urgently. It's good to get back to regular lane swimming again post-lockdown. I like the new rota system for booking time slots. It means that the pool stays open all day but never gets overcrowded. Great to see that the leisure pool has been refurbished and is open again. It's an excellent community asset.
