Positive experience: Positives - A good range of equipment and set up at the new(ish) Hoxton PureGym. Negatives - poor WiFi (another basement location), and the toilets smell of urine (like most basement PureGym).

Fantastic experience: Jason is so so so great !!! I enjoy his session because they accommodate to all levels ! He is quite funny and you helpful so you will definitely enjoy his classes. My favourite are the HIIT classes because he pushes you to your max !!

Positive experience: Overall OK gym but paying £40/month you'd expect to have access to basic hygiene.... Been going to this gym for a few months. Not a deal breaker for me but overall the changing areas/toilets don't feel that clean and today the soap was completely missing (men's changing room)

Fantastic experience: I never been on a gym before but I I have to say is clean all what you need and the staff is nice, I ask for help and well easy easy I got my help. Man shower are clean and not smelly. Good place for leg rehab

Fantastic experience: Today was my first day and I loved the atmosphere, the organization of the machines, etc. I was very happy... except for the women's bathroom where the sink was clogged and I couldn't wash my face and hands before leaving. For the rest, everything was great!!

Negative experience: Internet is always down floors so messy Hydration place always out of order Don’t have enough benches always have to wait 2) they need to bring enough rods for triceps as there’s only 2 in whole gym
Negative experience: Is pure gym staff allowed to blame or annoying people here in hoxton ? I just get there for the second time and while I was working out a guy with clear brown hair , that work for the gym ,start to blame me because I was dressing an heavy metal t -shirt. The singer of the band have a criminal past that's why the pure gym employee was blaming me. I wonder if this guy make the same circus with hip hop or rock shirt. If I go with an Amy Winehouse shirt I would like to have any pure gym staff bother me telling me she was a drug addicted ; what's the point of this? I suggest pure gym to better choose to who page wages. This guy ruined my mood and my work out today.

Positive experience: Quality of the machines is good but not enough attachments for some of them. People are really not good at leaving stations in a good enough state... But overall I liked it here

It is in the gym rules that members should return their own weights or risk suspension, but at peak times especially it can be hard to police this. However, staff on site do everything they can while we also have CCTV monitoring the free weights and are looking for new ways to combat this. Thanks, PureGym
Negative experience: There is no WIFI in the gym, especially at the peak time. and there is no signal too I went to ask and complain to the staff. All they explained is : “ its peak time “ ??? So i have no signal to find my work out Also the gym sometimes closed for longtime, due to flooded floor. No refund or any discount. I will stop my membership

Positive experience: My experience so far is mixed. First time I went was fairly straightforward and the class was ok but then two classes since have been cancelled, one without any communication so I showed up and waited around. Cracked on by myself in the end but I get the impression cancelling classes happens often so may not be the best gym if you prefer classes over gym.

Negative experience: There is no connection to WiFi the last 2 weeks. Barely can find managers or trainers and the toilets are disgusting and stinks.

Negative experience: I decided to cancel my membership, I do feel sorry they had such a severe vandalism issue but at the same time, it was a higher management decision to have unstaffed hours and poor control trough CCTV. Now I wonder if there’s some serious mould issue as it’s a poor ventilated basement with a company clearly trying to save money as much as possible. It could have been way worse, what would have happened if there was a customer inside + antisocial behaviour … The 2 stars go to the staff + equipment, always felt fine here in that regards.

Negative experience: I just traveled all the way to the gym because it says you’re open on google just to get there and find out ITS CLOSED what am i paying all this Monthly money for this gym is so frustrating and unorganised. To any new comers don't go here it constantly stinks of sewage i was told by a member of staff it’s because the pipe system in this gym is messed up the toilets are always leaking or flooding causing the changing rooms to be closed terrible gym not worth the money

Negative experience: Do not recommend PureGym as a company. The gym is great. However they have a sprinkler system in the building and looking back on the history, they have been set off multiple times, flooding the gym and rendering it unusable for weeks. PureGym will not refund you for this time it is closed. They may freeze you account for free if you kick up a fuss, but only after sending a complaint. Having the option to go to another gym or freeze membership should of been proposed.

Negative experience: Has been closed for 17 days
Hi Ahmad, thanks for leaving us this review. We are sorry to see this is 1 star. This gym has been closed for 10 days due to extensive damage caused by the floods and is looking to re-open around the 19th December. This however can be subject to change. For all members and staff, it was safer to close the gym whilst the issues are resolved however access has opened up to all other London gyms so members can still enjoy training. Negative experience: EDIT: look at their reply below, tells everything you need to know about PureGym. They closed the gym for 17 days and say you’re not entitled to a refund. On December 2nd they closed the gym until December 19th due to a flooding. It’s the most unreliable gym I have ever used. I had to send an email asking for a refund for the monthly fee, as they only “upgraded” our membership to access other units. I urge all impacted to do the same. Not the first, and certainly won’t be the last issue with this unit. Full and partial closures are common place, with little to no notice. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

As per our terms and conditions: There may be occasions where we have to close all, or part of, the gym of which you are a member. We will do our best to let you know of such closures in advance of them taking place, unless the problem is urgent or an emergency. We will use all commercially reasonable endeavours to ensure that such closures are outside of peak visiting hours and are kept to a minimum, in both duration and frequency. Negative experience: Someone vandalized the gym's fire system during an unstaffed time period, so it caused the sprinkler pumps to overwork and flood the gym. Why do strange people keep showing up at this gym? If things like this keep happening, wouldn't it be a good idea to consider having more staff? Also the nearest gym is a 15 minute walk away, if you really think about your customers you should waive their membership fee for the next month, not just upgrade our membership benefits!

Negative experience: Summary: NO staff, incompetence at its highest, broken website, no support team for anything, in the gym or website. Clearly the corporation got greedy with paying employees a normal salary. Arrived at the gym with intentions to work out, only to be greeted with fancy QR codes that just redirect you to their site with a broken paywall, was trying to pay for 30 minutes to sign up, they don't have any plans for people who don't have UK bank accounts, they just hit you with the "there was problem with your payment, please try again later". To sign up, you also need to be inside the building, which is impossible to access without a member entering first. Recommend you pay 30 pounds more and go to a normal gym. Not this cheap joke.

Negative experience: There are many problems to be sorted in this gym: (1) They don't let you bring bikes inside, and outside all the bikes are destructed making a very unsafe option (2) Instructors don't see you unless you come with a bike so they can expell you (3) I've measured some frequenters rudely spending more than 30 minutes with their cellphones sitting on the same equipament and nobobody cares (4) Cancellation is impossible to make online as the system doesn't work and they don't answer emails, so you need to make on the bank. (5) Flovoured water often is without refills so it spills a disgusting liquid and you need to wait 20 minutes to recharge, the passion fruit one was unavailable for more than a week.

Positive experience: The robbie butler classes are so loud that it really ruins the atmosphere of the gym. The volume is so loud and the voice on his mic is so distorted. Brought a friend today and we left after 15 minutes. This is my regular gym, but can’t stand being in the gym when it’s his class. It’s a risk to ear health at such a volume. I check the decibel levels when inside today and it’s too high to sustained for the length of the class

Negative experience: The hottest gym in London! The AC is not working probably.

Temperatures/air con in our gyms are automatically regulated by Smart machines, but if there is a persistent issue staff may be able to override it and can certainly report it to be checked by engineers. Positive experience: Pros: has amazing facilities, great classes and excellent staff. Also great for beginners and those not doing intense cardio or exercises. Cons: they’ve taken away cleaning abilities so the equipment can’t be cleaned by people in between uses, very gross. Also it’s super warm. I’m not sure if there’s an aircon problem but for someone who wants to do a lot of cardio, I find it impossible and too warm to do the workout I want to. It’s not great. Is this going to be fixed soon?

PureGym prides itself on being able to offer state of the art fitness facilities to our members in a safe and welcoming environment. We developed industry-leading cleaning and hygiene protocols to help keep our members and employees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, however, with the reduced risk and in line with the Government’s ending of legal restrictions, we have decided to remove self-cleaning stations in our gyms, which will also support our sustainability objectives by reducing our paper towel waste. We’re proud to say that many of the protocols implemented during lockdown, such as frequent and regular cleaning, and improvements to our air ventilation systems, will continue to be a core part of our TrainSafe Commitment. Positive experience: I personally quite like this place, but my husband has experienced major issues since he goes a lot. Big space and lots of equipment. Very affordable rates. However, major issues are that their plumbing will stop working sometimes, so the locker rooms are out of service, the emails alerting these closures are sometimes misinformation. Also, the class space has no doors, so the sound of classes is super loud everywhere in the gym. 3/5 is a fair rating.

Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. If the member can please get in touch with Member Services by Direct Message or email we can look into the issues they are having. If they are having an issuer at the gym it's best to speak directly with the Gym Manager. You can approach them in the gym or leave a comment in the feedback box as this is regularly reviewed and will be taken into consideration for updates and improvements. Staff should undertake regular volume checks for the safety and comfort of our members, but if you approach the Gym Manager with more info they can look into this. We appreciate your feedback! Positive experience: In the last 83 days, all or part of the gym has been closed 11 times due to plumbing issues leaving the toilets and some lockers unavailable. PureGym does make other gyms available but there seems to be a fundamental issue with the plumbing in this gym that shows no sign of going away. If you are using the gym you're probably local and can shower elsewhere but there's a lot of competition for the lockers outside the changing rooms when the ones inside are not available.

Negative experience: On any given day you'll go to this gym and not have any idea whether it's closed, whether its bathrooms are working, whether there are enough lockers for people to have their stuff, or whether the class instructors are playing music at literally deafening volumes

Fantastic experience: Started going to this branch early Feb with a pt. Afreen has been a great trainer to work with, I always look forward to my sessions with her. She knows how to push your limits while still making sure your needs are being met, overall 10/10 pt.

Negative experience: Gyms with no sunlight are depressing. It's quite compact inside. There's not enough machines or space. It's not a powerlifting/weightlifting safe gym - they use bumpers instead of normal plates, the squatt racks are ok, they only have 3x 32mm Olympic barbells. The available bumpers are worned out. For bodybuilding is ok. Whenever there's classes I recommend bringing your best headphones because it can get quite loud. The staff is ok. They're very friendly, but there are times that it seems like they're playing hide and seek with the clients. Internet connection is fast when there's Internet available (last two days I went only iPhone phones could access the Internet - poor android users had to climb the stairs to get some data. It's a solid OK gym. Go if you live nearby (-10min commute). 5/10

Fantastic experience: I had severe gym anxiety when joining however, that feeling changed when I started personal training sessions with Afreen. She made me feel comfortable and has been very supportive. I am more motivated to continue my fitness journey and out of all the gyms that I’ve joined in the past I feel the most safe here as a young woman.

Negative experience: What happened to this gym was shocking. There is always a plumbing issue that lead to close the gym. 24/7 gym they says but it’s closed at least 2 days every week. You will get an email saying “Unfortunately we have had to temporarily close PureGym London Hoxton, please be aware the gym is temporarily closed, Due to the blocked toilets and shower drains.” And this email continues every week! Find s gym elsewhere or you will be paying for a closed gym! Still a valid review 08th December 2023, the gym is closed already a straight week and it continues to close..

Negative experience: I loved this gym a few months ago but it’s always completely packed now. I don’t even try to go at peak hours after work anymore. I wish it was bigger or not the only ‘nice’ gym in the area

Negative experience: Overcrowded, inconsistent, messy. Went in with high hopes and the equipment seems nice, but the gym closes frequently, seems to be completely unable to stop members drop laving weights everywhere. When you do report the issues you are blown off and nothing changes. Recommend to avoid.

Negative experience: THE GOOD: New facility, wide variety of equipment and training options, 4 power cages and 2 additional squat racks, mobility room with mats and kettlebells THE BAD: Nearly always overcrowded, smells bad, claustrophobic THE UGLY: Every two days the gym shuts down due to a plumbing issue or toilets clogged -- what is happening?!? When the gym is open, good luck getting a free bench or rack to lift in. Watch out for the wannabe gym-fluencers with their tripods getting offended when you walk in public space. And hold your breath the entire way.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly gym with super welcoming staff! Iv been training at puregym Hoxton for a while now, and have attended many classes, however I know I’m definitely going to be working hard when I step in to Vincent’s class! The energy is always high and his continuous motivation keeps you going. I had very specific goals I wanted to reach, however I have never been able to find the right PT. I mentioned my goals to Vincent and he knew exactly what do to, to help me reach those goals. Not only did we focus on the physical aspect of reaching my goals we also focused on the nutrition and mental side of my training. Super professional and experienced PT!!

Negative experience: Decent gym but I just hope they FIX THE BLOODY PLUMBING ISSUE! I pay the membership fee to use THIS gym and am not keen on going to Shoreditch or Whitechapel because you can't fix the plumbing for once and all!

Negative experience: So unreliable! Things are constantly broken there, bathrooms and cleaning stations are hardly ever refilled, plus the bathrooms stink really badly. The only plus are the price and opening hours.. if the gym is open at all, though of the plumbing issues it's closed from time to time.

Negative experience: I trained with Vincent King around 3 months (3 times a week) in late 2022. Training wise, he's professional, 4 stars. However service wise, 0 star. Thus, 2 stars score here. Vincent has a habit of weekly being late (usually around 12 to 15mins+) and weekly canceling clients in the last minute (usually 15mins to 45mins before ur session) for the whole 3 months time. He has a LOT weekly personal excuses. Because the excuses happens too often, you don't even know which one is real to share your empathy. I'm being nice and flexible to meet Vincent's personal needs for the 2 months and I ran out my patience after rounds of rounds of complains to Vincent since there's 0 improvement in terms of being punctual. I have stop training sessions with money wasted, and felt not being respected. My advice with training with Vincent, if you are a busy professional with a career, this weekly period pain training experience will drive u crazy as it messes with ur schedule HARD. But if you are have a very loose life schedule and don't mind being super flexible with ur PT, recommend as the training quality is good. Also, don't pay 3 months fee in advance like me, as if you are not happy with the service, there's no refund. You either stick with it to suffer to the end, or walk away in the middle of the training with money wasted. Btw, I also trained with Alfie for 2 months, he only cancelled me one time (but he gave me the session back later), and he is never being late for other training sessions.

Negative experience: Trespassers after unstaffed hours!!! 3am someone was hiding in disabled toilet for over an hour!!!!!!! then after unstaffed hours there is no air-conditioning

Positive experience: Nice gym. Lovely to go to in the mornings. My only complaint is that sometimes the air that the pump in the gym ( the gym is underground) can be uncomfortable to workout in? I'm not sure where the air is being pumped from but if someone is smoking outside it will smell of that in the gym.

Negative experience: A decent gym. Reasonably priced, good equipment. However: my gripe with PureGym is that it is impossible to end your membership via their website or app. If you search for how to do this via their site, you’ll find yourself locked in an infinite loop between two disingenuous pages, that really (deliberately, I’m sure) tell you nothing about how to end your membership. In the end, I had to call customer service, who told me the only way to end my membership was to cancel my direct debit via my bank. I have no doubt this is intentional – they hope you give up, and forget to cancel so they can take more of your money. In the end, I had to block my direct debit to PureGym via my bank, like I was cancelling a scam payment. My other concern is that the PTs that run the classes in this gym are excessively loud. They scream down megaphones and pump music at an earsplitting volume across the gym, offending everybody within earshot. I’ve reported this several times to customer service, but they never bother to write back to me. Cleanliness of the men’s loos could be addressed. The gym playlist is also pure trash. Make sure to bring some noise cancelling headphones to drown it out, or you’ll be curling weights to an infinite loop of Kesha ft The Chainsmokers. In short: you get what you pay for. A cheap gym, but don’t expect a Virgin Active.

Positive experience: Un gimnasio de barrio con carácter. Tiene buen reparto de máquinas y zona de pesas. Además, tiene una sala donde hacen actividades dirigidas (bjj, funcional, con pesas…). Buenas duchas y tiene sauna (seca y de vapor).

Positive experience: I like this branch and it suits my needs. It’s smaller than other branches I have visited but I prefer a smaller gym. It’s clean (both the gym floor and changing rooms), weights are where they’re supposed to be, good variety of equipment. I tried a few group classes and they were great, I particularly enjoy Rob’s Saturday morning classes. Staff is friendly and approachable. Giving it four stars, because the showers are a let down - they are very small and there’s no temperature control.

Fantastic experience: Edit: they finally installed proper wi-fi. Probably the most decent Puregym out there, can get a bit crowded but otherwise fine ✌ Wifi not working at all or so painfully slow you can't even open a wikipedia page. Don't come if you are a professional that needs to check emails or if you want to look up an exercise online: it's just impossible.

Positive experience: Good for a basic gym. Nice variety of equipment, clean, friendly. No steam room or sauna, which is standard for this chain. Wifi is markedly slow, making it difficult to follow a workout video (or even load webpages in some instances) and with the gym being underground, this is frustrating, as it's the only way to get any kind of data signal. Showers are a let-down, as they're very uncomfortably small compared to others in the chain, with water shooting directly out of the cubicle onto the changing room floor if the door is even slightly open. They also have no temperature control, instead just a timed 'on/off' button. Not great when you're done with a workout and want to cool. off, only to be subject to a hot shower. This is even worse in summer, as obviously no one wants a hot shower before heading outside into even hotter temperatures. Otherwise a great gym, though.

Negative experience: If you ride a bike to the gym, AVOID! going to this gym as there is no cameras watching your bike (even the staff that work there bring the bikes inside the gym as they probably know) and a couple peoples bikes have been stolen. Also, there is no signal in the gym!

Negative experience: I've been a member for 2 years. There is always something major not working. From the drainage system to the wifi. At the moment im not even receiving emails to alert me of the closures of the changing rooms allowing me to access shoreditch gym. It's just forever disappointing.

Negative experience: This would be a good gym but Wi-Fi is severely lacking. As a basement gym with no service this is unacceptable. Keep getting told next week. Ironically, the staff have Wi-Fi since day 1. Unfortunately if this is not fixed soon, I will not stay, I’ve had to leave my gym session early as I had no pre downloaded stuff and this is just a waste of time.

Negative experience: I would say nice gym,everything I need for my workout. Unfortunately there is not Wi-Fi and not signal. I asked multiple times the members of the stuff they said Monday the Wi-Fi will be available. But nothing still no Wi-Fi and no signal. I have been ask for the past 4 weeks. That’s the only reason why I gave 2 stars otherwise full 4 stars.
