Negative experience: Totally shocked at how filthy the community Gym area was. This is not cleaned. Bits of old tissue in corners, accumulated dirt on the machines. The NHS staff just shrugged their shoulders & said it was always like that. Reception said it was cleaned daily. If it is, it’s the worse cleaning job ever. This is not the first time. It feels grubby & unkempt & quite frankly it’s pretty disgusting & disrespectful to patients. Next time will take photos.

Fantastic experience: Leyla was amazing … very professional and went over and above to ensure that the tension in my muscles were addressed. I enjoyed the entire experience. I’ll certainly be coming again!

Fantastic experience: I had the deep tissue Swedish massage with Tomasz and I think it was probably the best massage I've ever had! Tomasz explained everything beforehand and was sensitive to the tension in my body which was great! His massage was firm and balanced, and though at times it was a bit sore, he worked until the tightness resolved and I felt thoroughly relaxed. I would definitely see him again

Negative experience: The gym is currently undergoing refurbishment and most gym facilities are unavailable. I received no notice of this, and when I asked whether they could pause my membership for the duration of their renovations I was rudely dismissed by customer service and told to 'read my terms and conditions'.

Fantastic experience: I had booked the 60min deep tissue massage 2-3x already and Susan has been excellent. The place is clean and organised. The heated bed was fabulous. Susan was able to ease out the tension in my back and shoulders, and the deep pressure she delivered was what I preferred. Today, I had a 30 min back neck and shoulders massage. Leyla was my therapist and she was really nice, sweet and professional. . Her massage was soothing and she offered we great advice on my health and wellness. I will surely rebook. I came for another session today (10/1/25) with Leyla and it was very relaxing and just what I needed after a busy Christmas Season!

Positive experience: The toilet never has sanitizer, or soap to wash your hands. But thd place nice otherwise

They have plenty of place to enjoy as compared to the same places which I visited in the past. Staff was very friendly.

Negative experience: A shame that the creche has been changed to an expensive nursery. There is no options left for moms in London to do anything for themselves. Sad changes.

Negative experience: I took my child to play softly at this center and had a horrible experience. The manager was supposed to give me another free session, but there has been no contact. The manager doesn't help and customer service is awful. I would avoid this place at all costs!

Positive experience: It's a really good centre with great facilities but entirely let down by clueless staff and strangely unlike the name (BETTER) have no desire to better themselves eg take initiative. The constant answer eg when booking lessons is "don't know you'll have to wait for xx". Sadly it's only 1/2 pepole who have any get up and go attitude to sort out your queries. This centre would excel if its staff took a bit of pride and initiative.

Fantastic experience: Went for a Back Neck and Shoulder massage twice already with Layla. Loved it, she was very profession. Knows her stuff, highly recommend. Going back for more on a regular basis

Positive experience: Held my son’s 6th birthday here so I thought it might be helpful to others to have the information because I found the communication poor and I didn’t really know what to expect. There is very little information online about the parties which is a shame because the kids had a great time. I had to email several times to get confirmation of the party. Lots of silences & I had to chase a lot of information that you’d think they would just email out. There are a few places to park around the area on a Saturday but it’s not cheap for the whole day. Because you need to provide your own drinks and food it’s not really an option to get the bus/train. We got there around 25 minutes before the party. The front desk was super helpful. The person who was helping us came up around 10 mins before the party which was not enough time for us to organise ourselves really. We booked for 22 children and were given a ‘party room’ and the children could go in the soft play for an hour. We then had the ‘party room’ for an hour. I call it the ‘party room’ because it’s a room where they run exercise classes which is just off the soft play area. It was the end of summer but it was absolutely humming. My daughter commented ‘it stinks of feet in here’ when she walked in and I could not disagree. The party room is huge. It was set up with tables and chairs which was sufficient for what we needed. We had space to do games but I didn’t know that so I didn’t plan for it. I was imaging the usual small soft play party room and it was not communicated to me by the people who booked the party that it was big enough for games. The soft play is great. The staff on the gate of the soft play were diligent and helpful. Overall, it’s a good place to have a party (provided you can get past the smell of the room!) but the communication really needs improving. If you live close enough I would recommend you pop in to see the facilities.

Positive experience: My experience with the massage was great, they cater for the area you want to focus on. I took my sister with me and she really enjoyed the experience she had.

Negative experience: I was very disappointed with the massage I received from Adam. Firstly, I was asked if I needed the massage with my clothes on. I found this very much out of character for me having body massages on a regular basis and at no time I was offered this service...After Adam massaged my upper body, l was left wanting and at times I had to tell him I was not feeling as if he was massaging me...After massaging my upper back, he asked if I could turn over on my back. I then had to say to him "you have not massaged my lower back as this is the part of my body I feel the most pain"...He apologised and decide to massage my lower back, but he did this with a towel placed on my lower back instead of using his bare hands as he did for my upper parts, so therefore, I did not get any oil or his hands on my lower back...I asked him "why are you massaging my lower back with a towel in place?" He replied, "if I use my hands with the oil it would be too slippery to work" This I found somewhat strange, because my upper and lower body is the same, so why should the oil react differently... I could not wait to get out of there ..I suffer from pain to particular parts of my body due to a car accident, especially to my back, knees/feet, neck, and shoulders which have now turned arthritic and the only relief I get is from regular massage which is prescribed by health physicians. As a disabled pensioner, money is very limited and have to budget in order to pay for this service so I can get some relief, but I feel that I am left out of pocket after the bad service I received from Adam. I will never return or recommend.

Fantastic experience: I arranged for a Massage. The process was easy with all relevant information sent to me beforehand. Susan who did my deep tissue neck, back and shoulder massage was fantastic, very polite, welcoming and professional. Susan's massage was everything I hoped it would be, strong movements throughout and ensuring I was ok. I will definitely be going back. It's the best massage I've had in a very long time. The environment was very nicely maintained with low music and calm lighting. The massage bed was even heated.

Negative experience: Very poor service. My credit card has been debited for the online ticket for swimming lane but never received the ticket neither saw the ticket on my internet account. When calling, absolutelry not support. Re-your response on August,16th. I disagree. You have jus made a good marketing answer but have absolutely not taken into account my comment. If it was the case you would have required me to send you evidence of my credit card debit and worked out to understand why I never received the purchased ticket

Fantastic experience: I have had two sessions of deep tissue massage in the relatively new Massage and Spa facility. The admin person handling my bookings has been friendly and efficient. The therapist was first class: welcoming, technically rigorous, and his communication throughout the treatment was reassuring and informative. I'm certainly feeling initial improvement in various aches and pains and I'll be making regular visits in future for longer term health benefits. Highly recommended.

Positive experience: Big recreation centre full of options of sports and leisure. Big soft play and play area for kids, swimming pool and sqash quarts. It is better to book in advance. The surrounding areas in the street are a bit dodgy, so be careful.

Fantastic experience: I will like to say Hanza was fabulous! My boy had a super lesson - he beaming and kept talking about the fun new things he learnt and wanting to try them again. I noticed a real improvement. Thank you

Fantastic experience: This place is so good!

Negative experience: The leisure centre soft play is brilliant and staff are all lovely and very helpful. The accessable entrance however has become a hot spot for open drug abuse. Two of the three times we have visited in the last two months my three year old has witnessed open drug taking within the entry tunnel. Today three people were openly smoking crack just metres from the entrance and the leisure centre nursery. The tunnel is the only viable entry point for disabled or pram users. Very sad and I really feel for the staff who must be very fed up. There needs to be some policing or better security around the entrance.

Positive experience: Soft play is very good, the biggest one I’ve ever been to. It’s all clean and safe. Probably better for slightly older kids maybe around 4/5, my 20 month old was too young for most. The one star removed is just for the way I was told online we couldn’t go in without special socks so I bought some for my son. Turns out they’re one size and nobody wore them anyway. I felt very pressured into paying for them since there was a warning on the site they wouldn’t let us in without them when I could have saved myself money. Would definitely go again though

Positive experience: Great place for families with kids and adults. Not so satisfied with the steaming room as some days, men are allowed if they have booked as they have 2 sessions a day, ex: Tuesday 2 sessions, need to book to get there, one in the afternoon and the other one at 7:0pm if not mistaken.

Negative experience: Plenty of sports activities can be done here, however there are some equipments in the gym for more than 4 weeks not in use and still waiting for an engineering to come and fix them.

Fantastic experience: We visited the soft play. It is very clean and safe and secure for the kids to play. The equipment is in good condition and the areas were noticeably clean including the toilets.

Positive experience: I have come here since a child and have seen the ups and downs of the rec overall overall i would say its back on the up. however the pool changing changing room and lockers need a bad up grade as some other areas around rec. Classes are generally ok if your new good luck they will ask if you have an injury and thats it good luck in keeping up.as some staff Bearly show any demo others simply.say they are not paid enough. When you find that great instructor book ahead as they will be popular. Sauna is ok when people are not peeing or oiling up or soaping up.

Positive experience: A great facility but it's feeling neglected. Two out of the 8 showers in the male wet side changing aren't working whilst the water is scolding hot. It's been like this for ages and no sign of Active Lambeth fixing anything. The lockers are also in a bad way. Given how much we are paying for membership these days it's not a great situation.

Positive experience: Great soft play! It's more recommended for 3 years and up I went with my 19th month and all she really did was run around. The entrance for the slides has those nets and her feet ate to small and kept getting caught and she didn't like it but would go when she's older!!

Positive experience: Visited soft lay, great for the children but noisy and manic! Time slots have been reduced from 90 minutes to 60 though.

Negative experience: Great facilities and friendly staff Unfortunately the pool changing room floors are absolutely filthy every morning.

Fantastic experience: Really nice new local soft play. We went on a sold out day during half term and it still didn't seem too busy. All the staff in the rec are so friendly and helpful it made everything so much easier. The 2 guys behind the leisure zone desk on Fri 16th Feb at 1300hrs were so efficient and helpful (not to mention patient with my very excited son hopping all over the place!). They have a climbing area which looked really fun (needs separate booking), a large soft play, a timed assault course, and another smaller soft play for smaller ones. No baby area. Also love the fact that there are lots of seating areas and booths within the soft play equipment so you can keep an eye and be with them without following them around the equipment. Well done Brixton Rec! Small basic cafe area with hot drinks, juices, crisps, chocs, slushies etc. Better to take your own food as quite basic/minimal. The toilets were also surprisingly clean for a busy soft play so kudos to the cleaning staff. Also nice to see staff committed to safety - some older kids climbed up on top of all the equipment and promptly got told off by the climbing instructor and told to get down (love the absent parental supervision...) and again a small toddler girl kept running into the climbing area and the mother was found and told to supervise her child as she would get crushed if one of the climbers fell (also love that this needs to be explained to a parent...). I do think they should somehow separate the climbing area from the soft play with some kind of barrier as it's very close to the start of the assault course and lots of kids accidentally running into it.

Fantastic experience: Saturday 17 Feb. 11.00. Very friendly, helpful staff. Kids play area downstairs was excellent, spotless too. All good value, including snacks. Thank you.

Negative experience: Changing rooms in the swimming area smell of urine and there are mouse droppings by the pool. The white female life guard who drives the motor bike walks in with dirty outside shoes on ALL the time.

Positive experience: It's a great facility right in the heart of Brixton. It's a real shame it closes at 6pm on a Saturday and Sunday though (honestly, it'd be so much more convenient if it was just open later in general -- maybe Mon-Fri until 11pm and Sat/Sun until 8/9)

Negative experience: Changing room and showers are awful. Dirty all the time and there seems to always be at least one thing broken. Lot of things break down (place needed an upgrade about two decades ago). This morning there was no hot water in the showers - freezing cold shower in January. Gym is decent overall and it’s cheap but the dirt and poor maintenance of the showers and changing room is making me switch to a different gym.

Positive experience: It's Grade ?# Listed building in the heart of Brixton. It's akin to meeting a familiar family member. Some good services . Check it out

Fantastic experience: This is a wonderful community centre. There are so many activities to do and it's not expensive. I bring my son here to play football and he loves it. The staff are friendly too.

Fantastic experience: Just one of the best pools visited so far this winter..for some reason they said that my swimming session was free of charge..as I do Not live in borough that was strange and told them the normal charge was around 4.00 for most London pools..they just surged there shoulders! as usual staff at pools do not understand the priceing systems it's just pop in information and you pay what computer says!...so not a complaint just an oberservation.. But excellent complex..so sad went the Grenfell tower looms large outside RIP..all those people that lost there lives .

Positive experience: First time visit to great sports facility. Went for the basketball game. Nice airy environment. Helpful staff.

Negative experience: Since it was taken over by the Council, this place has been going down. Most of the toilets on the swimming pool level are not working, there is no hand soap a lot of the time and sometimes no toilet paper. Floors are dirty. Broken gym equipment remain unfixed for weeks and weeks. Opening times are still not back to what they were pre pandemic. Such a shame because I like the vibe.

Positive experience: Nice place for kids to play! There is a climbing wall for the older ones and soft play for the younger ones. I didn't like that the roof was leaking and wet.

Fantastic experience: I have been here twice now with my little one and I must say this place is great! The space is amazing and the children love it. Lovely seating areas for adults to wait and the price is just amazing! Really good value. The second time we visited last week there was a terrible smell which was a little off putting but I’m sure this will be resolved. 5 stars as my little one never wants to leave when it’s home time :-)

Negative experience: Very disappointed that our long standing booking was changed without letting us know. The hall they moved us to had large indentations in the middle of the hall floor which would have been unsafe for us to play on - when we asked for the relevant risk assessments the manager was quite dismissive of our concerns.

Negative experience: Our club has been playing at the Rec Centre for years but we were really disappointed by our experience last night. Our club's booking was changed on the night without prior warning to a different space that was unsafe to play on. When we raised this with the manager on duty there was no assistance or even apology offered and the manager was very dismissive of our concerns. As the space was unsafe (flooring wasn't level) and no alternatives were offered our group had to leave without being able to play.

Negative experience: Been going for a number of years but last night was an awful experience. Our booking was changed without notice to a space that was unsafe, solely to allow another group to use the space we had booked instead. When this was discussed with the manager on duty there was no assistance to rectify this other than to play on a dangerous space, so we had to leave without getting to play any sport. The communication of the staff was particularly poor.

Negative experience: Appalling behaviour from Brixton Rec and Active Lambeth. Brixton Ultimate have been playing here for 31 years. Today they moved our booking without any advance warning and the area they wanted us to use instead of our usual space was unsafe to play on - flooring had areas that weren’t level. The manager on duty refused to provide a risk assessments; told us that the floor was safe for our sport despite evidence to the contrary; and refused to accept that our player safety was an important consideration. His attitude was rude and dismissive.

Negative experience: Club booking was moved to a different location without warning, which was unsafe for use for our session. Corey, assistant manager was very unhelpful, refused to provide a risk assessment and was generally rude and dismissive of our sport.

Fantastic experience: Amazing building, great facilities. The lifeguard Hamza is a gent who went above and beyond to make sure I got the most from my visit. Am now a member

Negative experience: Worst swimming facility I've ever encountered. I'm not a frequent visitor but I've used this pool since my childhood and it's never been this bad. The lockers were awful. I couldn't use any of them as they most of them you need to bring your own padlock and the rest where you use a coin all were locked with no keys so I had to take our bags to the poolside. The pool I could see dirt and grit at the bottom. Nothing a decent pool clean couldn't sort out. The showers at the end were awful!! They were cold!! Me and daughter had to just wash as best we could and get out. I've never known this pool to be so bad. It was a really disappointing visit and one I'm not going to do again for the pool.

Positive experience: Booked the family leisure zone for two kids that loved it. Can’t fault the place besides the fact that you are limited to a 2 hour slot and it’s probably a little more pricey than local play areas

Positive experience: The family zone on the ground floor is awesome. The revamp has created a real jungle gym for kids with lots of levels and so much space for them run and play. New bathrooms are really nice to. The locker’s definitely need to be upgraded as the icing on the cake.

Negative experience: Facilities, app and service under Active Lambeth have yet to match those of Better GLL, who ran the centre until April 2023. Customer service and the app have been particularly poor, while two of the three rowing machines have been out of action for months.

Negative experience: Absolutely shocking booking system since Active Lambeth have taken over. 3 weeks in a row now my court booking has been cancelled either on the day before or in todays case my booking wasnt cancelled but when I called there was no record of my session. Will be making an official complaint as its clear Brixton do not care about the local community booking. Barely any apology and the fact it is still going on is a JOKE!

Positive experience: It was wonderful.. an amazing place for an amazing price.. £6 for an adult and child under 8 for 90 minutes... Clean and beautiful..highly recommended..2 minutes walk from Brixton station. Full value for money..

Negative experience: Not recommended. We booked a badminton court quite a while ago, but the centre decided to cancel it and gave the court to a basketball event. We only found it out when we were already at the centre. This is disrespectful!!

Negative experience: I have booked many badminton courts through other chain gyms or leisure centers in the past 4 years. This was my first time that my badminton court booking was canceled in the very last minute. The short notice sent by email- who else would open email on Saturday morning? Let alone no push up notifications on my Lambeth Active app. My friends went down all the way from North London to play badminton for the first time. We ended up having a local tour in Brixton. It was awful! Would not recommend people coming here again.

Negative experience: The worst experience ever. They cancelled our badminton court booking for other purposes without proper notifications. They didn't call us, so no one knew that. Also, their app didn't show any notification at all. So be careful, this may happen to you.

Positive experience: Love this place, we visited for the Hoopsfix Basketball competition. Great court with good facilities, definitely five star review if it wasn’t for the lack of toilet facilities for such a large event. Food available from the vending machines, taking card

Negative experience: Some parts look dangerous. They have tunnel netting hoisted over a hard floor surface. No padding. Tried to escalate a complaint but management seem to be very lax about it all. I would exercise caution if you take your little ones there.

Fantastic experience: Awesome local experience centre for kids! Very surprised about the amount of activities inside - squash, boxing. We spent time in the kids soft play which was great

Negative experience: I've been coming to this gym since it opened back in the 80s,and unfortunately it's decline over the years is sad yo see But the icing on the cake is that now lambeth have taken over from better its got worse if you pardon the pun,I'm now expected to cancel my vauxhall membership so that i can continue using Brixton with its broken lockers and ice cold changing facilities Poor customer service and complete lack off info has forced me cancel membership terrible way to treat loyal customers. Go to another gym that values its members.

Negative experience: DO NOT BRING CHILDREN TO THIS SOFT PLAY!! There were junkies doing needles by the accessible entrance and exit and smelled disgusting cause they probably sleep there. Inside, the lifts were out of order so we had to carry a stroller up and down 3 flights of stairs. Once we were inside the soft play we noticed there was no fence and an emergency exit door wide open with a brick right next to the children’s mats. Luckily I supervise my daughter closely cause she almost ran inside there and is extremely dangerous. Horrible experience.

Negative experience: Avoid the pool. Cold changing rooms (constant problem) No hairdryers in women's changing room (yes I know there are more outside) costume machine still not working and no working lockers today. I had to wait until someone came out, and yet the signs clearly state property shouldn't be left...since Lambeth took over this place has slowly got worse. Desk staff are lovely though - hence one star.

Positive experience: Newly added soft play is massive! The biggest slide runs from the reception all the way to the ground floor. I feel there could be a bit more padding on the floor. The rock climbing section and soft play for bigger kids looked cool too.

Positive experience: Great experience at the family leisure overall. I went to take my son swimming however the pool was closed for children at 13.30 on Monday 8th May which was the bank holiday . I asked about the new family leisure area and was told to walk downstairs to the low level. I was not able to book this online so asked the assistant at the desk. I was informed that we'd need to wait 20 minutes for the next session. I did not mind waiting so paid £6 for me and my son. During the wait, there was an area selling crisps, drinks and snacks, unfortunately no one was at the till point. Staffing was short by the look of all areas from entrance to exit. The family leisure area was amazing, the slides and climbing areas were brilliant. The website and schedule needs adjusting to avoid confused customers.

Negative experience: What keeps me going at this gym? My instructor and the quality of the fitness classes I attend 4 times a week with him. Apart from that the place needs to be seriously revamped. Health and safety is a concern. Today I have been attacked by a customer for no reason. I reported to both police and gym manager as it is unacceptable to go to the gym to have fun/chill and some people feel the right to assault you for nothing on the demise. For me this is a serious concern and I hope they resolve it. Please stay safe!

Negative experience: Quite a dirty, dusty venue with poor lighting but great facilities, also i found it rather odd being locked in and then unlocked to come out but i gues that's Brixton for you!!

Positive experience: Whilst i can see this leisure centre is finally getting some much needed improvements. It is still not up to standard. The changing areas were freeezing! Other users were also complaining, so i know this wasn't just me. The changing cubicles themselves were clean, but the toilets were either broken or dirty. The pool had all black gritty stuff at the bottom. The lifeguards look like they don't want to be there and the front of house staff i spoke to were very unhelpful. I guess Brixton rec is ok for basics but its is outdated and in need of a major overhaul. Visited the new play zone today. Good fun for the kids, needs a few tweeks but good for the price.

Negative experience: Used to be good but horrible now. The gates don’t work since the switch to Active Lambeth and everyone goes in and out as they please. Locker broken into and valuables stolen within a 30 minute swim - the only thing I got from the centre was an apology email. Gym equipment is not in the best condition but gets the job done. Avoid at all costs.

Fantastic experience: I went to the soft play with my toddler daughter and it was very nice. The soft play is quite big and we had a good time. I need to explore further the Recreation centre, but from what I could see, it's very good.

Negative experience: Its a bit shambolic with the transfer to Active Lambeth. Hopefully things will improve, but the transfer has been poorly managed. You can't login to book, when you can login expected sessions don't show, and no one answers the phone to help. The icing on the cake is that the prices have gone up. Genius, Lambeth Council at its best, make the services unusable, then you can cull them later on because no one is using them?

Fantastic experience: Great, cheap facilities with helpful staff. There is a gym, women’s only gym (at specific times), a sports hall, a swimming pool, a sauna and showers and hair dryers. Great value all inclusive gym!

Negative experience: I used to love coming here until Lambeth took over. Having a Better nationwide membership and living between Brixton and Vauxhall, Vauxhall was my home center but I often came here and loved swim doctor by Joe. However, since April 1st, I am expected to get 2 memberships in order to access this center or any other one in Lambeth (except Vauxhall). The staff haven’t been friendly when I called to explain my situation and I was denied access to this center. Tragedy for Better members and the general health of the center. They should’ve let original Better nationwide members keep accessing this center without having to spend more £££.

Positive experience: I am a thourough user of the gym part of the building. Been coming here for around 6 months. I had nothing to complain about except the horrendous music choices but that was fixed when Lambeth started owning the centre. This is the reason why I do not come anymore. Lambeth buying the place is very bad because I also use other Better group gyms and this change of owner truly ruins my day. Having 2 memberships is just too expensive and Lambeth is not hesitating to make people empty their pockets for less overall adventages as Better I truly am dissapointed to have to leave that place in which I did most of my early progress.

Positive experience: Really disappointed the first thing Lambeth Council did on taking over is raising the kids soft play prices. Rather mean! I hope at least this means more cleaning and upkeep? Honestly hoped you would help the kids of Brixton and reduce not increase the prices. Also, their peak/non-peak timings do not make any sense to the reality of kids' life.

Fantastic experience: Situated just a block away from Brixton tube station. The complex is huge and wide range of activities available. We go and play badminton here regularly, would definitely try other activities too..

Positive experience: Great soft play! Huge. Lots to do. Toilets not ion the same level which was annoying Decent price. No staff so stay as long as you like mostly. A nursery does have a morning session there which makes it quite busy

Negative experience: Used to be passable but now introduced 40 min "light tokens" for squash courts. So if the group before you are 20 mins late, you have to wait for them to finish. Awful system, just to stop people staying a few extra minutes if the courts was free. Maybe spend that money on cleaning the absolutely disgusting toilets.

Fantastic experience: I came here to attend a skate event. ' Skate Jamm' The hall was a great size. They organised capacity well so it wasn't too over crowded and dangerous. It was a great event with live DJ's and intermediate to advanced skaters.

Negative experience: 35yrs of using Brixton Rec, and after today's experience i'm never going back. The place is filthy, nothing works, and taking an 11 year old swimming today, no lockers were available. Even to the place was a ghost town. I asked about the lockers and was told to buy a padlock for £4 #jokers. I feel sorry for the staff who are friendly but its obvious the management have no interest in the place. Lambeth council are probably running the rec into the ground so they can build flat for middle class. it worked for Olive Morris house why not the Rec. Residents and their children deserve better than this. I won't hold my breath
