Bannatyne Health Club and Spa in Hastings offers a blend of modern fitness facilities and rejuvenating spa treatments, making it an appealing choice for both gym enthusiasts and those looking to relax. The spacious rooms are praised for their cleanliness, with welcoming staff enhancing the overall experience. Many visitors have enjoyed the delicious on-site dining options and have positively highlighted the strength development classes led by friendly instructors.
While the spa treatment area has received excellent reviews for the quality of treatments and a serene environment, some users have expressed disappointment regarding certain facilities. Issues raised include outdated gym equipment, crowded conditions during peak hours, and some maintenance concerns regarding the cleanliness and functionality of the pools and saunas. Also, customers have reported that additional expenses, such as towel and robe rentals, can detract from the overall value of the spa experience.
Overall, Bannatyne Health Club and Spa offers a variety of amenities, but potential visitors should be aware of mixed reviews and may want to inquire about current facility availability before booking their experience.
Bannatyne Health Club and Spa: Opinions
Fantastic experience: The room was big enough for a family of 4 and very clean. The food was delicious both breakfast and dinner . Helpful and welcoming staff, we really enjoyed our 2 nights stay.
Hello Mrcatalintoma, we appreciate your positive review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings, thank you.
Positive experience: Was really looking forward to this spa day with my mother in law. Though we had a nice time together, we was extremely let down but the outdated facilities. Luke warm jacuzzies and sauna was no warmer than 40 degrees... I've been I'm warmer countries and could have easily sat I'm there for an hour! Steam room was lovely and hot though so we mainly used this. Massage treatment was good, though I had 2 masseuses? 1 for my back and one for my legs and arms. My back massage was lovely but arms and legs was a big disappointment. The massage was also disrupted as they thought they had my and mother in laws booking mixed up, so was no longer relaxed. Cafe staff not the most pleasant and it was a shared cafe, very strange to sit in with your robe on... I must say. Unfortunately, I would not return and feel like my money was completely wasted.

Hello Ross, we strive to provide a great experience, we are glad you enjoyed your visit. Thank you for your great review, Daniel Murphy.
Positive experience: Great massage and facial, pool area very disappointing very dated not enough seating inside to sit and relax if not wanting to use pool ,sauna or jazzui.for money could be better. Afternoon tea was fresh and tasty.
Hello Sam Parker, thank you for your review rating of our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings We really appreciate your feedback, thank you, Daniel Murphy.
Positive experience: We enjoyed a lovely afternoon spa experience here but it was a game of two halves. The Spa treatment area is excellent. Great team looking after you, nice treatment rooms , excellent quality treatments. 5 stars. The main reception of the spa with the cafe, again 5 stars: clean plenty of space to sit and relax , nice coffee and food and the team looking after you is also very welcoming and helpful and provide great service. Then there is the health club side which is where you access the steam room, sauna , pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs and where the changing rooms are and this is where the spa day experience falls apart. This is clearly a very successful and popular health club, to have a full car park mid afternoon on a Friday and the facilities are full to the brim. We struggled to get space in the steam rooms, saunas and hot tubs and the pool also was at about capacity to enable swimming. With health club members , hotel guests and also spa guests they clearly have oversold. It's a shame , because if the spa had its own facilities ( steam, sauna, hot tub) then it could be considered a very high end spa, and offer true spa day experiences , but the fact it shares facilities with the gym and health club side means that it is basically treatment rooms on the side of a gym. Would we come back for treatments - absolutely , would we book a spa day or afternoon here again absolutely not.
Hello Jc (jc), thank you for your review rating of our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings We strive to provide excellent facilities and service so we really appreciate your feedback, Daniel Murphy.
Negative experience: No hotel stay. Spa day. Spa treatments were great. hot stone beds and massage treatments as advertised. Rest of the facilities over crowded and.or not working. Cafe was out of lots of ingredients. jacket potatoes came cold. might be ok for normal members, definitely not worth the money or time as day Spa.

Hello Gareth Wright, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings.
Negative experience: Booked a spa day, was very disappointed. The majority of the facilities were closed and the staff were extremely rude. Due to the majority of the facilities being closed, it meant the ones that were open were impossible to get to. Overall and awful spa day did not feel relaxed at all, would not recommend. Don't waste your money!

Positive experience: We went for a spa day. Lovely customer service, we felt very welcome even though we were not members. Dome facilities were a bit tired, like the showers in the treatment rooms.

Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel. I was 100% happy with service and rooms. The group of young ladies that made up the staff were super efficient.
We strive to provide excellent facilities and service so we really appreciate your kind words, Daniel Murphy.
Positive experience: Mixed feelings. The spa trip was booked through an “experience site” for me and a friend, we booked our treatments in the evening as we don’t live close to the area and wanted a nice drive down, however after booking we received a call to say they were double booked so had to move one of our slots to 9am. The treatments we chose were not available so had to choose different treatments. I am unaware if this is the fault of the experience site or Bannatyne website as that was how it was booked. Nevertheless Spa treatments were lovely! all staff doing the treatments were helpful and friendly, the treatment area was a calm relaxing environment, exactly what was needed As for other facilities it was incredibly busy. The pool was not for casual swim like other spas it was very much ‘train for the olympics or get out’ otherwise someone will swim over you even with the different lanes. The indoor jacuzzi was not working which another person (a member) said happened often but kindly told us there were more jacuzzis outside, the jacuzzis outside need some TLC they’re simply falling apart around the edges so if you lean back or put an arm over the side it will scratch you, otherwise was a very nice temperature despite it being cold outside. I personally did not have the guts to try the ice bath but others seemed to enjoy the new addition. It was impossible to use the sauna as it was full, even waiting it wasn’t worth it as no one wanted to get out. Changing rooms and showers were 50:50, changing rooms were clean, nicely set up with mirrors and hair dryers, showers were gross how people can leave a public area like that I do not know, hair on walls and floor, empty bottles left in the cubicles, grubby floor- I kept my flip flops on, but as the shower heads do not move I think staff should go in a spray the cubical down every now and then throughout the day (which they may do but was not seen, also there is a cleaning cubby for ALL people to use they just evidently do not) I cannot comment on the gym as we were not aware we would be allowed to use the gym until we got there therefore did not bring appropriate clothing. Cafe was nice, good selection of drinks and food all with calorie count included. ALL STAFF were lovely and polite, cannot fault a single member, to me that is a huge positive.
Hello Amy, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings. All feedback, whether it be positive or negative allows us to improve as a business, thank you, Daniel Murphy.
Fantastic experience: Great way to spend a few hours. All the staff are friendly and make it a pleasant place to be.
Hello Mel Wilson, we are so pleased to learn you enjoyed your experience at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings. We really appreciate your feedback, thank you, Daniel Murphy.
Negative experience: So I signed up to the Bannatyne gym and spa in Hastings and I have been off sick for over two months with ongoing back issues. I have been unable to use the services and Bannatyne sent me this message “I have had a response from my head office team who have advised we need further evidence to show you are unable to use the facilities for longer than 2 months. Is this something you could provide? ” They said 2 months of sick note is not enough to cancel. Honestly, inhumane treatment and care. Won’t recommend you get caught up in these loan sharks.
Hello Kofoworola Geroge-taylor, we are sorry that your experience did not match your expectations at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings, should you wish to discuss in further detail please email [email protected]. .
Positive experience: Nice place with great facilities. Bit pricey for what it offers though. More like a leisure centre than a spa
Hello Greg Evans, thank you for your review rating of our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Daniel Murphy.
Negative experience: I had a terrible experience with Bannatyne's Gym due to their customer service. When I tried to cancel my membership after losing my job, I was required to provide proof, which was frustrating. Each time I reached out for help, it took weeks to get a response, leading to unnecessary fees piling up. Even after finally completing the cancellation process and receiving confirmation, I was contacted by debt collectors claiming I owed money. When I called Bannatyne's, they acknowledged it was their mistake for not processing my cancellation properly. Overall, the lack of efficient communication and support has left me very disappointed. supposed to be a health and well being centre seems to be to total opposite leading me to worry about my finances and impact my credit score because of there lack of professionalism. Ontop of that half the time the gym was dirty with broken equipment taking months to fix, a carpark which seems hasn't been redone in a decade . I would highly recommend going a mile down the road to crowhurst where you can get a membership for half the price !!
All feedback, whether it be positive or negative allows us to improve as a business, thank you, Daniel Murphy.
Fantastic experience: Nice facilities. Range of classes.
Hello Holly Paramor, thank you for your review rating of our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings We really appreciate your feedback, thank you, Daniel Murphy.
Negative experience: I signed up for a year. Not been there for years when it first opened, nothing has changed, still same tubs outside which work when they feel like it, new ice bath spend money on that when tubs don’t work half the time, gym if you can get on anything to work out, women on there phones shopping while sitting on machines.men playing games on there phones, smell of cooking at about 8.30 from air conditioning, have the filters ever been changed on the water taps in gym as they are so slow to fill your bottle. Lots of machines out of order and stay like it for ages.tiles missing in steam room since I joined, slabs outside entrance to tubs were green and slippery, shower at pool side one has never worked, get used to taking lots of weights off machines befor your workout as people just leave them on when they are finished, gym? More like an expensive amusement arcade, never been back,
Hello Paul Apps, we are disappointed to learn that you are unhappy with your experience with us. We appreciate your honest review. We set a high standard for ourselves, so we are disappointed to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one, Daniel Murphy, General Manager, Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings.
Negative experience: For what should be a high end gym the cleanliness has no standards. You have only got to glance up to see strings of cobwebs and dust which has been gathering for years. The corners/edges of the gym have dust, dirt and even finger nails which look like they have just been swept to the side for months on end. The clumps of hair left in the showers and in the changing room would suggest that yetis make use of the facilities or someone grooms a German shepherd in the shower… this is the female showers I am talking about. There is equipment left in the gym, ironically with a sign which says “closed, but not for long!”… this sign has been there for so long that even that is now also gathering dust. As for the parking, if you’re a male in a high end saloon it’s a case of park where you want, how you want. But if you’re a pregnant female in a family SUV, you’ll have the general manager take photos of your car for no particular reason, to the point where I had to approach them to question why they were using a personal mobile phone to take photos of my car. Somewhat inappropriate and made me feel very uneasy. The parking spaces are small, and to put it politely, there are users of the gym who passed their driving test decades ago and have no regard for anyone else’s property… they’ll drive into your parked vehicle and then drive off without so much of a note. There is a lot of potential here but if less time was spent fretting about parking and more time was spent with a vacuum cleaner it would certainly make it membership which is better value for money.
Hello Gabriella, we are disappointed to receive your feedback. In order for us to understand and address any concerns you may have, please contact us at [email protected], thank you. Fantastic experience: This was my first time at the spa, had a lovely massage, the lady was wonderful and made me feel very relaxed, I then had a lovely swim, the man who signed us in was great and very welcoming to us would definitely recommend
Hello Sue Birch, we are so pleased to learn you enjoyed your experience at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings. We really appreciate your feedback, thank you, Daniel Murphy.
Negative experience: Was treated appallingly after trying to cancel my membership when I had to leave town after a family bereavement and couldn’t return because of subsequent health issues. Threatened with debt collectors for months, I then was told I had to scrabble together all kinds of proof - a death certificate, doctors notes, bank statements, many of which weren’t accepted until one was at the very last minute. I was literally fielding threatening emails from them while organising my dad’s post mortem, can you imagine the amount of stress it added to an already nightmare situation?! When I tried to appeal to some humanity, I was met with a lecture from the assistant manager Alex that it’s “just like a phone contract”, no sympathy for a grieving, disabled person. She was more concerned about losing her job than doing the right thing. And I think that’s indicative of the kind of place this is, they pay their staff poorly and overwork them, so you’re never going to get a good massage at the spa because they’re all on minimum wage and exhausted. The whole building itself is pretty run down and dated too. Not worth the money or the hassle.
Negative experience: I have been trying to speak to someone at this place for over a month. I call every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times - Nobody ever picks up a phone - and this is the sales office! I wonder if the powers that be know how this place is run.
Positive experience: Have been to this spa many times. This time was to celebrate my friends birthday so there was a group of us. One of the outside hot tub jets was not working. Considering how much they charge for membership and spa days, I would have expected them to be more pro active in getting their facilities fixed. They now have an ice bath, which seemed to be very popular. Overall, it is still a beautiful location and good facilities . Spa treatments are fantastic, and the ladies that work there are lovely.
Fantastic experience: Just had a deep tissue massage from the lovely Beth. Possibly 1 of the best back and shoulders I've ever had. I'm 56 so I've had a few at home and abroad but Beth is very very good indeed. My wife also said she was very impressed with her massage too really sorry but we can't remember her name ? But it was a couples massage. I will 100% be back. We had our Anniversary overnight at the hotel but this made our weekend. Many thanks Ladies I hope your appreciated by the Boss. Very kindest regards Danny & Sarah
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely stay in the hotel with spa use. Hotel food was really good! Recommend. Spa has lots to do in and around the pool.
Fantastic experience: Great service bar service was excellent. Breakfast was really nice maybe a little too much hollandaise on the eggs benedict but cooked to perfection. Only thing I would have added is some sweetners none at breakfast or in room for my coffee.
Negative experience: Ginger man/women I don’t know but lies and don’t clean up after her self Equipment don’t work and u pay all that money for it and don’t us it what a joke the response is Unclean and work staff smoking on site
Negative experience: It's not worth the money they put the membership up and say the they gonna give us the ice bathand that all lies. most of the equipment broken and really no worth it.
Negative experience: Never again shall I visit this nasty dirty gym, most of the equipment are broken to bits ..you are better off going gym group or workout in the park
Negative experience: Waited 40 minutes for food when there was barely anybody there just to get told they hadn’t even put it in the oven yet. Asked for a refund and could hear the people in the kitchen say “yeah free quesadilla” real nice :)
Negative experience: Extremely overpriced for such bad facilities - pool is small, place is dated and mouldy. I chose a 3 month membership and despite telling the front desk I wanted my membership to end at the 3 month mark they continued to charge me. I disputed up to head office level and was never refunded. Shame there aren’t many gyms close to Battle I think most people choose this place for convenience and are ripped off for it.
Positive experience: Not to the standard. Much more needs to improve. From gym equipment and changing rooms, showers, etc
Fantastic experience: As a staff member of another bannatynes I can honestly say this club is amazing, the staff are absolutely lovely and so friendly, Joshua was brilliant, the facilities were so lovely and clean, I had a Seasonal body scrub by Beth and it was beautiful, would highly recommend this lovely club and can't wait to visit again, well done guys ❤️
Fantastic experience: Had a spa day. Loved it came out refreshed. Will definitely be doing again
Fantastic experience: Spent a day at the Spa. Great welcome from Alfie, good service all day. Lovely treatments and so relaxing on the hit stone beds and in the jacuzzis - especially loved the outside ones. Can thoroughly recommend for a day to recharge.
Fantastic experience: This place so so gorgeous and the smells as you walk through the door just screams spa!!! Considering I showed up at the wrong spa staff were just amazing!!! Very helpful even called through to the other branch where I was supposed to be to let them know I was coming and checked how long it'll take to get there thank you all so much!!
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusted with bannatyne gym. I cancelled my membership in time but obviously the receptionist never did it correctly as they are still chasing fees. I did not find this out till debt collection agency started sending me letters. Terrible customer service when trying to get this sorted. Money hungry, law breaking gym
Fantastic experience: Brilliant, stayed overnight. Luxurious hotel. Room was excellent. Dinner was delightful and breakfast was stunning. 100% recommend!
Fantastic experience: I've spent there only a day SPA with massage. It was very good and relaxing. The facilities were good, the steam room and outside jacuzzi were a winner. The massage was strong enough . The service was very nice and helpful. The food was good and at a reasonable price. I would recommend it.
Positive experience: Overall the facilities are just pretty average. Which doesn’t seem right considering how much I pay for the membership. The gym is overcrowded the majority of the time, which isn’t hard considering how small it is and the lack of equipment that it provides. Also doesn’t help when it takes weeks for equipment to be fixed. The swimming pool, sauna and steam room are good, however again all overcrowded in the evenings. They do seem reasonably well maintained however. Overall, the membership is absolutely not worth the price that people pay for it, especially when you compare it to other Bannatyne’s which are similarly priced.
Fantastic experience: I'd never been to a gym before until 2 months ago..... Bannatyne Hastings instantly made me feel welcome and put me at ease..... The premises are fresh and clean, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the equipment is top class.... Add to that, a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and full size swimming pool, spa treatments and refreshments and food area.... Joining this gym was the best decision I've made in a long time.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous day for us both and well looked after by the two young ladies. Customer service great and much better than Ashford Bannatyne. Thank you
Positive experience: We attended the spa for a friend's hen party so we did a spa day package with one treatment. The pool was closed, which wasn't the end of the world for us but we didnt get any heads up before attending so it's worth checking the website before you go. The sauna and steam room are great. The changing facilities are mostly okay but the showers are really horrible and not very clean. I would recommend keeping flip flops on at all times! The hot tub was big but actually quite cold, it was slightly warmer than outside but not even as hot as a shower and there's one large one indoors and that's it. The food is lovely and super affordable, I couldn't believe how cheap it was! The massage was excellent, and Honey (our masseuse) was really lovely. There are only about seven of the heated beds in the relaxation room, and one of them wasn't working so it was cold. It's hard to get a spot and if you pop out for a wee someone will generally be on the bed when you get back to make the most of it! Loads of parking, staff are so so nice and really accommodating but facilities aren't amazing.
Fantastic experience: Had great service at the Spa. Really relaxing massage. Lovely relaxation area. Huge hot tub. Enjoyed the steam room and sauna too. Look forward to going back
Fantastic experience: Really great gym and spa, I've found it clean compared to other Bannatynes Clubs, the gym has good equipment though you often have to wait to get on, the pool, sauna, steam room and spa pools are clean and a lovely feature. The staff on the whole are friendly though sometimes it seems understaffed, I struggled to get a tour prior to joining, I'd advise booking online and confirming by telephone. Also guest passes need to be booked 24 hours in advance.
Negative experience: AFTER FINALLY GETTING IN TOUCH WITH YOUR HASTINGS SPA THE REPLY I HAVE HAD FOR HAVING COVID IS EITHER COME IN WITH COVID!!!! OR GIVE MY PLACE TO SOMEONE ELSE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS CAN YOU HELP AT ALL?
Fantastic experience: Emma was brilliant, the massage was so relaxing . The room was very peaceful as well. All the staff are super helpful. We had a lovely girls day out.
Negative experience: Last night had our Christmas work do there and feel compelled to share our experience. Far too many people shoehorned into the Montgomery suite, backs of chairs touching so you get shoved every time someone wants to get through.. the food was the worst I've every experienced, not even school dinner standards, Mini overcooked burgers, tastless turkey pies, duck or veg gyozas, which were so overcooked and raw vegetables (butternut squash and cauliflower) in curry and cold oven chips..all in buffet style, which was organised well but meant that it took two hours from the first table to the last to get food, so if you only put a little on your plate in hope for seconds, your in for a long wait.. desserts were passable, but no chocolate option for fruit haters..if the don't eat fruit you could scrape out a meringue... the only good part was the company you bring with you and east sussex dj..
Negative experience: Dirty, outdated and the showers are usually cold. The pool area is usually full of people on spa days who stand around in the pool as there are no chairs to sit on. The outdoor area is run down and feels like a car park with weeds everywhere, it’s not somewhere you want to relax and the slabs round the hot pools are coming off. The gym is good but overall the whole place is overpriced, run down and on a par with the local leisure centre. The staff stand around chatting and are not helpful. Please open a David Lloyd club.
Fantastic experience: 3rd time visiting here! wonderful place, our room was upgraded which was a lovely surprise and a fab room albeit looking a little tired in areas. We stayed for a night, dinner took quite some time, 2 hours for 2 courses as there was only 2 young waitresses on! Went to the spa for a massage which as always was fantastic! I’m sure we will be back again soon.
Negative experience: I have tried calling every day for a month now and no one EVER answers the phone. Really not worth the £60 something pounds I am stuck paying per month
Fantastic experience: Great staff and could have spent all day in the relacation room. Sauna, jacuzzi all good. Yoga teacher great as we managed to get a booking for the class (not at all guaranteed for spa visitors). Massage also good.
Positive experience: Had a lovely spa day here with a friend. Staff are friendly and helpful, as was the general atmosphere and those of other members. We would've used the pool. However, there was an exercise class on so we weren't allowed. That would've been nice to know in advance. We enjoyed the jacuzzi (both indoor and out), sauna, and steam room. We then had a fabulous lunch. As we were having treatments afterwards, we wanted something light, so the canteen staff recommended splitting a meal between us, which was perfect as we got to eat a toasted chicken quesadilla, which would've been too filling for one. The treatments - back and leg message with lava shells - was simply amazing! We came out feeling so much ease within the body. However, it did transpire that my friend had only received half a leg massage - the front half! Whilst I'd received both front and back. We were in separate rooms, which had subdued lighting, allowing full relaxation. A menthol? rub on the shoulders was used as a final stroke to wake us up, which was perhaps less desirable. Be warned, bring something warm to wrap up in afterwards, as we were both extremely cold after the treatments. We then relaxed on heated recliners in the relaxation room. Overall, a wonderful experience that I would definitely do again.
Negative experience: Not sure what is happening at the health club at the moment but it’s far from the premium gym that I was sold. If you are considering becoming a member I would hold off a while as they seem to be having a lot of issues at the moment. Showers haven’t had hot water consistently for a while and 90% of the cardio machines don’t work in the evenings as they seem to enter a sleep mode that they can’t be woken out of (all of the touch screen displays are completely unresponsive). Despite raising the above with various team members including management but nothing seems to happen. Like I said before entering a year contract with them I’d check to see if they’ve resolved the above issues.
Fantastic experience: Cold pool and members not following the club rules and staff not enforcing then
Fantastic experience: Really nice hotel. Friendly staff and excellent bar. Well worth a visit.
Negative experience: The receptionist at the gym was brilliant. However, the entire facility looks outdated. The walls are all marked, and ceiling panels look very old. The mens changing room has MOULD on the ceiling in large patches. On closer inspection, the AC has MOULD inside the vents blowing out, which im sure is a major health risk. Sauna is out of order and sharp edges in the large jacuzzi, left of the steps. Will not be returning....
Fantastic experience: Excellent experience, great spa facilities and treatments. Outside hot tubs too! Staff were all brilliant.
Positive experience: Spoilt by loads of motor bikes revving up in the car park for the second week running making it difficult to leave the car park. I thought this was a place for quiet and relaxation not a bike convention. I spoke to the spa who were very nice about it but they told me there was nothing they could do as it was up to the hotel as it was arranged by them. I spoke about this to the Hotel and to be honest the receptionist was less than interested and was quite off hand saying I was the only one who had complained but I know from other members this is untrue.
Negative experience: The worst experience ever for my family trying to cancel for our terminally ill relative. No compassion from these money sucking vampires despite years of membership. This should be a warning to everyone, if they don’t support you in these worst of times there should be no dealing with them ever.
Negative experience: Gym facilities are sub standard at best. Multiple machines out of action for long periods of time. Outdoor pools were closed throughout the duration of my membership. Some of the staff members were rude and consistently patronising. Definitely not worth the money and would never rejoin. To anyone who has a three month membership check the terms and conditions as it auto renews if you don't give 30 days of notice.
Positive experience: Lovely stay reception excellent very helpful bit disappointed the conservatory was closed and the outside hotubs not in use but we had a fab time and food in the hotel was lovely
Negative experience: Absolute rubbish customer service, had to remind staff 3 times about having a fitness appraisal and ended up waiting 6 weeks after joining. Just tried ringing the centre to cancel a session this morning due to illness, tried three times, each time no answer on reception or sales and the call timed out. Always see a lot of staff standing around doing nothing whilst your waiting at the counter to be served. We paid for year and now regret it. Not good service!
Negative experience: Got brought a luxury spa day for 2 at Bannatynes as a gift, decided to book in at the Hastings one as it was close to home. Had been really looking forward to it as I loved the Westwood Cross Bannatynes spa day I had been on about 4 years ago. This was the worst spa day experience I’ve had. The pool is more of a fitness pool, no space to sit & relax (there were 2 chairs which people had thrown their towels on whilst they used the steam room). There are 2 thermal baths outside the pool, but both had stones falling off & sharp edges. Couldn’t get to the relaxation room from the outside as the door handle was so stiff, so you have to walk back through poolside, through changing rooms, cafe area, then into the spa waiting room where people could be having a manicure by the door, all just to get to the relaxation room. Sauna door was broken, hinges hanging off & the door needed to be lifted up to get it to be closed. We heard other spa guests say that the food wasn’t great from the cafe so we decided to leave after an hour, got our own lunch then returned later on in the day for our massage & facial. The reception staff ignored us as they saw us but continued chatting to other staff. All other spa days I’ve had, I’ve been there from the earliest you can arrive until the latest you can stay. This was the complete opposite & generally been a really disappointing day, considering how much was spent on the gift. I will be choosing alternative spa days in the future & won’t return to Bannatynes.
Positive experience: For the cost I would not rate this spa highly at all. Being a bannatyne spa I thought it would be a fairly nice place, I did not expect what was essentially a leisure centre with spa treatments available!! At no point does the website mention the pool is open to children, and swimming lessons!! Whilst the start to our day was lovely a relaxing and we enjoyed the facilities, we were disappointed to find our spa experience interrupted by screaming children. I have been to many spas, with some hotel spas allowing the children staying a swim at a certain time, but I have never been to a spa who have swimming lessons!!! My massage was lovely but as a spa experience it's a thumbs down!! Also I don't think the additional cost for a towel, robe and flip-flops is justified considering the cafe/recpetion area is between the changing room/facilities, and the treatment rooms, so if you want to use the steam room ect before your treatment (as you would on a spa day!!) then you've got to walk through that area!
Fantastic experience: A good gym, with a large swimming g pool. Good classed with awesome instructors. Clean and well maintained. Worth the steep membership fee
Negative experience: Just had my eyebrows waxed and tinted. Even in the dark room I could tell it wasn’t good. One is darker than the other! The waxing also is uneven. I was asked if it was ok and I did say well not really one is darker than the other and they were far darker than I had expected given. Her response is well they will settle down in a few days !!I said to the lady wipe on and then wipe off but how they can be so different is beyond me. I wasn’t asked what shape I wanted my brows - they look hideous so I’ll have to go elsewhere now to get them sorted. Shame …. Won’t be going again
Negative experience: Booked for a spa day with my husband. Whilst the staff were friendly and the treatments were good, I wouldn’t class it as a spa day. There was nowhere around the pool to sit or lounge and therefore nowhere really to be if you weren’t in the pool/sauna. Also had to pay £8 extra per person for a towel/robe which wasn’t made clear prior to the day and really should be included in a spa day in my opinion.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful staff you have, you should feel privileged and proud to have them work for you. My welcome was made by a lovely woman behind reception called Saskia. Me and my partner arrived 4-5 hours early and eventhough our room wasn't ready (which we expected) Saskia gave us spa passes (which allows acces to the sauna swimming pool and hotub and also the spa room which does both messages and beauty treatements lockers ext) and also let us put our bags in the staff room. And then even carried our bags up for us before we had come back so we could enhance that relaxation and definitely made our wait for our wait feel so welcoming and relaxing. Anyone working ok shift on morning/afternoon of 8th April went above and beyond. Me and my partner were messing about with our door and weren't able to lock it from the outside but Saskia made sure to reassure us all of our items would be safe with her (again) and of course they were. All bar staff, spa therapy staff, receptionists and waiters were so lovely with directions on where to go as it can be confusing at times but they were so understanding and really took the time out to either show or properly explain things (Including the small prints) Me and my partner are already looking at becoming a member and using this as our usual get away. Definitely recommend x Edit cos we got royalty treatment:::: Steph the managing dining area extremely inquisitive and proactive towards my food intolerance. She made me feel more than welcome and safe with my food choice, as said before me and my boyfriend are looking to becoming regulars but I can assure you this is based on customer service. Anyone could book a hotel and get a massage but to be treated like a real human and ask for your own options and opinions is rare these days and these lovely people take the time out of their day to make us feel safe and reassured. Me and my partner can't wait to return, I'll be sure to review then as well x
Positive experience: Lovely to drive up to, the staff are superb and of course the spa facilities are great. The hotel itself is tired and in need of some TLC and the price for the tiny room was very expensive and disappointing.
Negative experience: Just rubbish. You cancelled us in less then 12hour before are treatment and spa. Now not letting us rebook are vouchers. Thank you messing up my birthday plan .
Positive experience: OK, but could do with redecoration and a change of barmaid along with a couple of other staff who really do let the team down. As for the barmaid.. well she was so rude to the point she needs the sack! Won't be going back!!
Positive experience: Hotel was lovely. We booked massages at the spa, not a great experience. The person doing my massage was checking their phone and texting. Not cheap so disappointed with service.
Negative experience: Not good for a spa day. The treatments were great but the rest of the facilities are not good for a relaxing spa day. It was really busy, we had to wait for space in the steam room/sauna etc and there was nowhere to sit and relax. They have a relaxation room but it's separate so once you've entered the swimming area you can't get to it. I was expecting a nice relaxing day where I could lounge around and read a book but this is not the place to do that
Positive experience: Absolutely brilliant stay they even provided a irthdsy cake for my hubby, the spa was lovely to
Fantastic experience: First time at a spa Lovely head, back and foot massage Spa staff gave excellent service
Negative experience: Worst spa hotel in terms of communication I’ve ever dealt with. Trying to book a 1 night stay with spa and no-one answers the phone or replies back to emails.
Fantastic experience: We visited for a post Christmas spa break in a group of nine, we had a lovely overnight stay our break included a two course dinner, a back neck, and shoulder massage, prosecco, breakfast, use of the gym, pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms and outdoor hot tubs from 9am to 10pm, depending on their opening hours. There's a coffee shop that also does food such as sandwiches and burgers etc...basically loved it this was our second visit and I'll definitely be back.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely day at the spa. Great facilities, and an excellent and relaxing massage. Will definitely visit again.
Negative experience: Don’t take young children here , it’s supposed to be child friendly The pool is constantly cold , obviously to save on EXPENSES as is Eastbourne Bannatynes, my grandson got cold very quickly , I wouldn’t have renewed my membership if I knew They were turning the temperature down !!!
Fantastic experience: Had a really positive experience after my massage treatment, i want to give a shout to Madlen the therapist who dealt with myself really friendly and professional would definitely recommend friends and family keep up the good work
Fantastic experience: My wife booked a spa day for 2 with 2 treatments after winning on the McDonald’s monopoly. We were both very impressed with the facilities and the treatments we had. So unfortunately I can’t comment on value for money but we still had an extremely relaxing day out. Thank you for a lovely day
Negative experience: I visited bannatynes health club with my partner and was very disappointed. We arrived as a guest to a member and the issues started before we even entered the club the sign up process was overly long. But after complete it it we were then asked for ID. Taking my ID to a health club is not something I do. The blonde receptionist was condescending and extremely unhelpful. She made us feel like we were a nuisance and looked down at us. Extremely rude and insulting. The sales manager was helpful and more polite I must say. Probably the only saving grace of my experience. I entered the dated and dirty charging rooms. Walked through the dirty and smelly showering area and into the spa area. Again very dated and dirty. The outside jacuzzi was cold the pool was cold and the flooring area was again dirty. The place is in need for some more professional and polite staff that seem as if they actually want to be there and also some insight into customer service. Even after speaking to members of the health club they are in the same mind as myself about the outdated and dirty facilities. With current staff and facilities I would not recommend a visit. There is to much competition in this sector to waste your time on this club.
Negative experience: My partner had booked a 2 night stay package for us over the weekend although we are truly disappointed. Our impression on what we thought it would be did not live up to the expectation. Our room was not ready by 3pm check in… the room was dated with an old telephone and TV, the only part that felt updated and modern was the bathroom. Within the package deal we was offered a bottle of wine however myself and partner do not drink wine so we were offered a value of £21 on other drinks. When ordering multiple drinks to the table none of them came, we asked for them to be brought upstairs however none of this happened therefore we were unable to use our £21 worth of money. The dinner menu is very limited and does not offer a wide range of food. Breakfast was nice however ensure you get in their early as they do not top up the juices, pastries and butters. The spa is in a separate building which you need to walk across too. The gym was big with good variety of equipment. The pool was cold and extremely busy with kids which didn’t allow the spa experience, the jacuzzi was busy therefore was unable to sit in their. The pool facilities we’re not separate to the gym users so everyone has access which made it over crowded. We couldn’t even get into the jacuzzi due to this. We had a treatment each which was 60 minute massage, which was disappointing. The masseuse did not ask if the pressure was ok and when asked to focus on certain areas failed to do so. I was under the impression the masseuse was on her phone as during the massage she kept stopping randomly and I heard her phone vibrate multiple time against the beauty bed. Overall I am disappointed with the service and experience we had as we thought it would be luxury relaxing experience with no disappointment.
Negative experience: This hotel is totally fine but it can’t really sell itself as a Spa or 4 star hotel. Everything is extremely average, boring restaurant, bad wine list and a very unconvincing menu. The “Spa” is basically the local leisure centre, my gym is far more luxurious. All in all, an overpriced and boring middle of the road experience.
Fantastic experience: Mia gave ma 3 lovely treatments today. I would highly recommend her. Thank you, will definitely come back again
Negative experience: Seriously how this hotel ever got 4 stars is a total mystery …… at best it’s a 3 star …… once you have admired the splendid facade and enter the reception there on in everything is down hill and is far far from any 4 star we have ever stayed in ! Breakfast like the rest of the hotel was poor and to be charged for a cappuccino at breakfast begged belief as did the 4 star rating! Our rooms like the rest of the hotel was tired, worn, dated and disappointing. The reception and cleaners were delightful. Beautiful grounds / exterior surround.
Positive experience: Was my favourite hotel & spa. I have used the Bannatyne spa occasionally over the last ten years and it's looking like it's in need of a bit of TLC in the swimming area there are several patches of rust appearing (I understand water areas and metal = rust) also the outside jacuzzi area needs the slabs relaying (trip hazard) around the edge of the slabbed area there used to be wooden edging but now it's mostly rotten and is exposing raised rusty metal bars which were fixing the wood in place (not a good combo) A little bit of maintenance goes a long way if you want my £.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely lovely place, booked a face, back and scalp message and was amazing. Chloe who done my treatment's was brilliant and so lovely. Great use of facilities, well worth it and would certainly recommend
Fantastic experience: Visited the spa for my husbands birthday and i just wanted to congratulate Emma and the team we had an amazing experience plus the staff was welcoming and attentive with great customer service. We would definitely recommend this to others.
Negative experience: We had a lovely stay at the hotel, our son bought us a voucher for dinner bed and breakfast but we ended up paying double, they did not honour the voucher, they promised to phone back never did so my advice to anybody is don’t buy a voucher
Fantastic experience: Second home for 'donkeys ' years, and I can not fault anything. There's the franchise, and then there's the actual staff, and herein lies something special..
Hello James Mcguire, we appreciate your positive review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Hastings, thank you. We hope you continue to enjoy our facilities moving forward and if you require any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Daniel Murphy.
Positive experience: Joined for gym / fitness. There's a disappointing lack of space for free weights and very few weights machines - way too many cardio contraptions! Would like to see a more modern set up with more floor devoted to strength training, the excess cardio thing is a bit Year 2000... Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, a real asset to the gym
Negative experience: Had a lovely surprise massage booked for my birthday on 6th June in the morning. Could not fault the spa staff who were amazing and who I give the 2 stars too. However the dark haired lady on the main reception desk was simply the rudest woman I have ever met in the hospitality world. Attitude towards me nearly had me in tears and I spent the rest of the massage stewing it in my head and enjoy it. I have emailed the club to ask out to complain and so far nothing has got back to me. I discourage anyone to go there and I know I shall not be
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely girly day staff where friendly and helpful. The treatment rooms are comfortable and clean very relaxing experience can't wait to go again.
Negative experience: My friend and I took our two children for afternoon tea for the first time and was quite underwhelmed. The service was quick however, the scones were hard and dry, the sandwiches were filled with butter and no cream cheese with the salmon; we asked for ‘kids drinks’ and they were received in tall glasses (both children were 2 and 3). We also asked for a bowl of chips which came to us over fried and lastly, the bill showed our experience as £20pp although advertised at £18.50pp.
Fantastic experience: The pool, spa's and saunas are excellent. Lovely friendly staff and plenty of nice young members.
Negative experience: Certainly not worth the 60 something pounds a month I’m paying for gym access. The club doesn’t reflect the high standards I would expect of a Bannatyne. It needs a pretty hefty refurb. However, the staff are very friendly and the cafe area is great.
Fantastic experience: The leisure centre has lots to offer and we really enjoyed our day there. There is a 20m pool with 2 lanes, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and 2 outdoor hot tubs on the sunny patio. The gym is well stocked and there were a few classes. Best of all, was the spa treatments which we all enjoyed.
