Our comment from FitFit UK about Totnes Leisure Centre:
Totnes Leisure Centre is a community hub offering a variety of facilities including a swimming pool, gym, and children's activities. Many users appreciate the friendly staff and the classic 1970s swimming pool, ideal for length swimming. The centre is known for its popular children's swimming lessons, often highlighted for the talented instructors that provide patience and nurturing.
However, there have been concerns regarding cleanliness and maintenance, with several reviews noting that the facilities appear dilapidated and in need of refurbishment. Users have reported that some areas, particularly changing rooms, can be dirty and poorly maintained. There are also complaints about the limited operating hours for classes and the cancellation of sessions due to staff shortages, which has led some members to consider cancellation of their memberships.
Despite these issues, many visitors express a strong sense of community and appreciate the availability of various activities for families. The Centre has a range of facilities but is often perceived as needing investment and modernisation to better serve its members.

Totnes Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: I've been a member for three years at the Totnes leisure center. And I'm now seriously considering leaving.the only thing that keeps me there is the locality and I refuse to have to drive to another town as I'm a frequent user. The facility is dirty, the majority of staff are unprofessional and unfriendly. When a piece of gym equipment breaks they just remove it. The sauna has now been closed for two months for minor cosmetic issues. The prices are not cheap and do not reflect the service/facilities. They call it a charitable/ community centre but they are not meeting the communities needs. I know a numerous people who used to have membership that now travel further a field so that there needs are met. And fusion don't seem to care. I find the fact they call themselves a charitable organization questionable. I think the local council should get on their case to up their game and provide the proper facilities the community deserve/want.
Negative experience: Dirty and Digusting. If I could give -10
Negative experience: Recently left swimming lessons here for a much cleaner & safer environment. hopefully my child will get some attention in her new lessons and not be ignored.
Fantastic experience: Great
Negative experience: The few staff there are, are friendly and I love the venue but I’ve just arrived for 7am for my booked swim to be told there’s no lifeguard for the third time in 8 weeks (!!!!) so the session is cancelled. This is totally unacceptable. They offered to transfer the booking to the next session an hour later, but I start work at 8am. I pay £40 a month for a membership I can’t even reliably use. There are only a few group classes outside of working hours and only TWO on the weekends. I’m sadly close to cancelling my membership. I would like to be refunded for the value of my swim, at least.
Positive experience: I like this pool - classic 1970s 25m - good depth and width - staff do a great job on front desk and keep the place nice and clean and tidy - good option if you want to smash out some length close to the centre of town
Fantastic experience: Definitely recommend swimming lessons with Ben, he has been amazing with my child, who was terrified of water, just over 1 year of lessons he is now on grade 3
Negative experience: The gym is very cramped, blares terrible music/radio? and working out on a Tuesday night just to watch the mirrors steam up is pretty nasty. The swimming pool also is no competitor, compared with the price.. literally go anywhere else for less than £35-£49 for better facilities. Not to mention the majority of the staff are the slowest kinda kids from Totnes local school (awesome).. no grownups here apparently besides some DoneWithIt. Would not recommend!
Positive experience:
Positive experience: Decent gym. Has pool and sauna. Decent price. Friendly staff!!
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Fantastic experience: Children's swimming lessons here are recommended. The instructors are fantastic especially Tasha. Really patient, fun, nurturing. Smallish group sizes.
Negative experience: Due to staff issue, my sons' swimming lessons were canceled in June 2023. Total 4 lessons haven't been refunded yet even in September. Very disappointed their way of business, not so professional. No one replied... I will not carry on this swimming lessons and will find other place...shame it is local...
Fantastic experience: Great centre love the gym lots of equipment staff really nice
Positive experience: Dated
Negative experience: Hate to say it but the gym is terrible. No staff up there means anything goes. You have teens flexing in the mirror topless and half the customers rock up in jeans. Totnes pavilion used to be the hub of totnes, those days are unfortunately all over.
Fantastic experience: I like Zoe! She is the best I have been asking her a lot of questions and she is answering me with a smiley face I really like her You’re lucky you got such an incredible lovely women.
Negative experience: Lovely staff if you can get through, in person fab folks. Have been trying to ring on and off for days, no answer. Changing rooms are grim at best, reported filth in the two cubicles in the men's changing room, a week later still there. Yummy
Negative experience: Young but very skittery customer service - gym clearly cramped and lacking - unkept walls and surfaces - basic membership for Totnes, Fusion only: not worth it. Guess it's better than before ?
Fantastic experience: Went for the kids' roller disco, absolutely brilliant
Positive experience: The pool has a nice window where sun streams in the morning and late morning swims are really quiet and peaceful. The staff are also really lovely. However, the facilities are shabby and I've stopped swimming in the evenings because the changing rooms are covered in mud and hair at that time. Swimming pool is also pretty busy in last evening and first morning lane times, with very narrow lanes so that breast stroke is near impossible! The sauna is strangely located too, so that you have to pass the gym in your swimmers. The pool is definitely colder than it was but that seems to be everywhere since the energy price rise.
Fantastic experience: Well equipped, well staffed and reasonable membership prices. Staff are friendly, informative and accommodating.
Positive experience: Lots of facilities but needs to spend a bit more on maintenence
Positive experience: The staff are absolutely great but I hope the facility gets some investment soon. It’s dilapidated.
Positive experience: Gym is great with heavy weights in a separate section downstairs, good range of CV. Swimming pool is old but well looked after by the team. Don’t use the dry side changing rooms as poorly maintained and not clean.
Fantastic experience: Came here for a swim and was pleased with the warm water temperature. Most pools local are freezing. Really friendly staff
Positive experience: Apart from being slightly dated we really enjoyed our visit.
Negative experience: Dark and the pool is dirty. The whole place really needs a facelift.
Fantastic experience: Recently started Aquar fit Amazing teacher , small class size.
Fantastic experience: Great for my family
Fantastic experience: Great staff
Positive experience: This place has good facilities and they aim to accommodate as many bookings as possible. The clientele that use the sauna make it a very annoying place to be at times. The toilets need to be cleaned more regularly as they become untidy and gross very quickly. The above was all pre-covid lockdown, it has not yet opened and is still taking money from its members. Fingers crossed for improvements when it finally opens up again.
Fantastic experience: Good customer care. Great facilities.
Positive experience: A great resource for the town.
Positive experience: Some of the facilities could do with renewing or updating...a bit shabby. Nice people at reception though.
Positive experience: Great little lesuire centre
Negative experience: Its alright
Positive experience: Tienen muchas instalaciones y el gym tiene lo esencial.
Negative experience: They won't accept cash payments
Negative experience: Up until last week I would have rated 5 out of 5 as gym is now modern, cleaner and altogether more pleasant to train in. However, I feel that Fusion's decision to go cashless will mean that a section of it's local community will be disadvantaged. Not all children and young people will have parents that can organise prepayments onto payment cards. This decision will lead to some of the community being excluded from a public facility.
Positive experience: I like the gym but have a few issues, the biggest is that despite having a separate changing room for the swimming pool, swimmers tend to use the gym chafing rooms and as a result the floor is often covered in a good inch of water, the same issue applies to the bathroom, although this isn't entirely down to the management of the gym they don't seem to do anything to dissuade this behaviour. They could also do with a few more 25kg plates
Negative experience: Good centre but looking very tatty. It desperately needs modernising and updating. The changing facilities are often filthy, tiles falling off walls, sinks out of order etc. Pool often seems to be on the cold side. The centre requires a refit, not just a lick of paint!
Fantastic experience: I always loved taking part of the activity in the leisure centre. I did some Zumba dancing and i did extremely well on the hole.
Fantastic experience: Nice swimming pool
Positive experience: Nice place to swim or work out, haven't yet explored there activities.
Positive experience: Great on a Friday for kids youth club night
Negative experience: Sexist male staff in the pool area. "You are not allowed to sit down in the pool area because you might be leering at the people in the pool". This was said to THREE different people during the evening I was there in February 2019. Plain horrible...
Fantastic experience: Good gym, good swimming pool, let's me never skip leg day
Fantastic experience: Cool place with friendly staff
Negative experience: Dirty and expensive
Negative experience: honestly the kids who work their are not the brightest. They’re either small scrawny staff who love to make a racket in the gym like hooligans, or pretty thick receptionists who are more dense than a cement block
Fantastic experience: always good to go to the gym the staff are very informative
Positive experience: Not great, stuff not working or accessible and feels like an afterthought although staff try to make it friendly
Negative experience: No blue roll ANYWHERE! Bring my own towel tomorrow! Too many sweaty people dripping their exercise perspiration everywhere! Loo roll doesn't count!! X lol. Dirty sweaty equipment- rarely cleaned :-( Jan 2019 - #BlueRollNOTlooRoll
Positive experience: Decent 25m swimming pool. Also has a gym, outdoor pitch, and a sports hall. Pretty typical of an ex-authority leisure centre. Offers a range of classes and is well used by the local community.
Positive experience: OK, but in dire need of a clean and refurb.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Kids loved it
Fantastic experience: Great local leisure centre with plenty of fab facilities.
Negative experience: Left about 5 voicemail and 6 messenger Facebook messages all read not replied to so went to another leisure centre for our swimming club
Positive experience: A good gym and swimming pool
Positive experience: I'm just glad it's still open although the whole place could do with updating, however, sadly, there's no money for that!
Fantastic experience: Nice clean pool, had fun with the kids.
Positive experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Wide range of facilities
Positive experience: Great local facility needs some investment
Fantastic experience: This is where our daughter goes for holiday clubs. Great facilities and variety of things for the children including swimming, roller blading, snorkeling and bouncy castles etc etc. Her school uses the pool during term time and my daughter and friends love it. Parking nearby.
Fantastic experience: Sensible 25m pool with four lanes. Good changing rooms.
Fantastic experience: Friendly place
Positive experience: Changing rooms are sometimes a bit grubby
Positive experience: Small swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Friendly gym
Fantastic experience: Brilliant little sports centre with great staff
Positive experience: Everything about it is great, other than the fact it seems more chlorine-y than other pools I've been to. It hurts my eyes. That could just be me though, so I would still recommend it if you like quiet pools with lots of space!
Fantastic experience: Grate place for all the family
Fantastic experience: The pool was quiet and easy to have a fun swim with my 5 year old.
Negative experience: Caca
Fantastic experience: Gg
Positive experience: Good gym, sauna and pool. I used to enjoy the classes too. It's not always completely clean and has very busy periods sometimes, but it's good enough for the price.
Fantastic experience: Nice pool and clean
Fantastic experience: Community run pool
Positive experience: We were on holiday and needed to use the toilet. Friendly staff. So we didn't use any other facilities.
Fantastic experience: Great Gym Team
Negative experience: Forcing people on benefits to arrange direct debit payments for memebership is not fair.....if you have never been on benefits this is how it works....pay your pre paid gas and electricity meter....pay council tax...pay debts...then shopping.....if you have any money left then spending it at the gym/leisure centre is a great release.....some weeks/months you will be able to afford it and others weeks you wont.....#punishthepoor
