Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Loved it
Fantastic experience: George was really lovely and helpful getting my partner and I sorted out. The facilities (especially the stairmaster and treadmills) are best in class. Best gym I’ve been to.
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff - management all approachable and helpful; as well as all other staff. Love coming in to site to see all their smiley faces. Pool always clean, gym is lovely and spacious, and the classes are always great!
Negative experience: Was interested in joining this gym. However it took me more than 40 minutes to get in contact with someone on the phone regarding a 1 day pass. When I applied for it online, I never received the pass (via email). After calling back again to find out what’s going on and being on hold for an unnecessary period of time, I was told someone will call me back… it’s a no from me
Fantastic experience: Great gym , got everything you need and more , friendly and helpfull 5 stars allround . Only 1 negative things its allways busy regardless of time it is .
Fantastic experience: I visit Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre's swimming pool every week. The whole place has a very pleasant atmosphere and the café is great for a post-exercise coffee and chat with friends. There's also a big car park with access to Harrow Lodge Park itself which is a really attractive place for a stroll.
Positive experience: Cant complain. Gym and swimming facilities are good. Its a 4star place for the price for sure.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities. Cafe is good and swimming lessons good for kids
Negative experience: Pool is extremely dirty, it has a funny smell to it and there are loads of items left at the bottom of the pool. Staff are very rude, they allow big groups of ball play which leaves limited to no room for people who actually want to swim. Avoid avoid avoid!!!
Fantastic experience: Been a member for so long, aside from a period when I was unable to attend due to serious health issues. . Their GP service helped me to get back to better health following cancer treatment and spinal surgery. The help and support definitely made my recovery better. I love being back at the gym now. Have tried others but always return.
Fantastic experience: Always convenient to book swimming. The sportscentre is local, walking distance, clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Negative experience: The only reason I signed up to this leisure centre was for the health suite but that is as much of a disappointment as everything else at this leisure centre. Where have you ever come across a health suite with no access to a hydration station? They have a water fountain in the gym but none where the steam and sauna are. If you don’t wish to pass out from the heat, you have to take a walk to the lobby area in your swimsuit to be gawked at. I ask you: What Wolly came up with such a design?! The other scam being run here is a 4 hour minimum cancellation fee. Generally speaking you don’t know you won’t be able to attend 4 hours before hand. 1 hour 100% you know you won’t make it. 2 hours even, fair enough that’s reasonable. 3 hours this is still far from you appointment time and a lot can happen in 3 hours. 3 hours if you wish to be punitive but 4 hours before, I’m sorry is utterly ridiculous. Who’s running this leisure centre…Putin?! How they have the gall to charge late payment fees for cancellation 3 hours before you’ve already paid to use the facilities and can never use it because it’s always bloody full. Oh and every quarter the fees keep going up and up and up without little to any communication and the terms and conditions get more and more stringent with little to no notice. On top of the fact that you have to book ahead in the first place. You don’t have the freedom of saying I would like to go to the gym or for a swim tonight. Is it even worth it…I’m not sure it is!
Positive experience: Very good gym, very Lovely members of staff, Keira and Mitchell in particular, but the hygiene of other gym members is a real problem ruining others work outs because they can’t use the free showers provide in there membership
Fantastic experience: Best gym
Fantastic experience: Best gym
Fantastic experience: excellent gym and facilities, staff are amazing and helpful couldn't ask for a better health suite
Fantastic experience: We had booked our family swimming slot incorrectly so one of the crew was going to sit out the session. Then the lovely Catherine stepped up to help us out. Catherine did all she could to resolve our predicament, and she kindly loaned us some change for the lockers. Brilliant customer service - proactive, solutions focussed and very polite and helpful. Thank you. PS the leisure centre is always clean and the facilities working whenever I've visited. Lovely place, book early though as very popular.
Fantastic experience: Nice little centre they’ve built after the last was torn down!
Positive experience: The chairs upstairs in the viewing gallery were stained.
Positive experience: Nice and calm mostly. The courts are really good with good lighting and clean surfaces and new nets. Ample parking. Overall great experience.
Negative experience: My kids have been going to this place for the past 3 years,I never had any issues until a teacher called Calvin started working there.i don't know the issue he has with my children but I feel like he's not treating my children fairly. I can't be paying for a lesson where by my kids doesn't feel safe with a teacher. I have tried several times to speak to the manager but all to know avail. Recipients are really nice and helpful.
Negative experience: I’m not sure why older men swimming on their own are allowed in the children’s pool without a child or family when the swim lanes were perfectly open. More importantly, a younger male member of your staff proceeded to follow myself and my cousin with our children around the changing rooms, blank staring at us and asking if we’re alright multiple times? Weird and not a good look. Didn’t ask for his assistance once nor appeared to need assistance just chatting amongst ourselves
Negative experience: Too busy
Negative experience: I've had membership for almost 12 months now. This place already was over capacity in the number of members, and they still took on more members in January 2024. Gym is overcrowded and the sauna/steam room is genuinely 99% of the time fully booked, but you walk in and the room is empty. They've monopolised the booking, premium members get to book 2 weeks in advance, so us normal members rarely have a chance to book as we can only book 1 week in advance AND the sauna is closed 50% of the time everyday due to very shoddy 'safeguarding', which makes it even more difficult. Numerous complaints to management from several members, but mgmnt just don't care. The membership price increased by £10/month like clockwork in January 2024 though. They demanded and took more money but have not improved the experience at all, its worse.
Positive experience: The place is nice but in the swimming arena both male and female change in the same place.
Fantastic experience: The function arranged by the Lions Clubs District 105A was a grand success with most senior citizens enjoying the entertainment singing and dancing with the performers. Thevolunteers were fantastic. Over 800 people in a hall was great to see seniors enjoying themselves.
Negative experience: People who answer the the phone are bunch of idoits. They give you wrong information. Its just pathetic.
Fantastic experience: Always clean
Positive experience: The gym it’s quiet small but the facilities are really good. Over all the gym deserves 5 ⭐️ but the espresso at the coffee shop less than 1 ⭐️.
Negative experience: if you dont book a sauna due to limited numbers, and have no colured band collected when booked on you. Then they come round to throw you out. Many people frustrated over it and many rows there. Gym is small and overall, over priced. If you fail to cancel a class within 4 hours, have to pay a penalty of £4. Happier at my old gym which is massive, and no sauna problems.
Negative experience: I can't say alot about Harrow Lodge as I only go to see my grandchildren have swimming lessons there's a cafeteria with limited seating where you can watch your child but the cafeteria closes before 7pm which I find annoying as the last 15 minutes of my grandchild lesson the staff in the cafeteria kick everyone out and lock the fire exits with keys which seems stupid. The other week I was there and my daughter was feeding her youngest who's only weeks old and they kept shouting at us that we had to leave and her other littlen was still having their lesson .so we had to stand in the foyer where the ticket desk is and turnstiles utterly ridiculous.
Fantastic experience: Happy with the service
Positive experience: Good leisure centre but customer service needs to be slightly better at the cafe. Although overall it is a nice leisure centre.
Negative experience: Trouble with the website. The centre never pick up the phone. And annoying when u cannot change ur date of birth online. The answer machine gives u the not so useful information 1st. How contact them in emergency. Problem to be solved. And wrist band for hard of hearing not issue
Fantastic experience: Whilst I still miss the old leisure centre, I can't deny this is a nicer looking building and the training pool is a good temperature for those of us that struggle with cold water. It's also a reasonable depth allowing adults to swim properly, whilst also being a good depth for children. Be aware it is deeper for the afternoon public sessions, as I realised when my daughter jumped in thinking it was the lower depth and promptly went under and didn't immediately appear again! Thankfully swimming lessons paid off and she was fine, getting herself out and exclaiming "it's deeper Mummy!" She has lessons during the week at the pool and enjoys them greatly. I've not made user of the other facilities, but if all looks good. The changing village is kept pretty clean (despite the best efforts of some of the customers) and the showers are okay, though a few more would be useful. Toilets also okay. The café area is okay, but I really don't like that it is cashless only and there are no prices displayed for any items. The leisure centre really benefits from being situated in Harrow Lodge Park and there is a parkour area directly opposite, as well as outdoor gym equipment. A children's play area is also located at the other side of the carpark, which has ample parking spaces for users, including those with electric vehicles.
Fantastic experience: Really nice clean place to be. Convenient parking, helpful staff
Positive experience: Great facility and staff, just wish they had more lane swimming availabiltiy in mornings.
Fantastic experience: First swimming session on a beautiful very clean pool. Had trouble with the app but staff were super helpful
Fantastic experience: Great place for all of your sporting and leisure activities, helpful staff and friendly environment
Fantastic experience: Really modern. Gym is massive. Has swimming - always booked out. Has sports hall that gives 4 badminton courts. (Wish they didn't increase off peak cost of badminton.) They have loads of classes.
Fantastic experience: I recently started advanced swimming lessons , having not swam in years the confidence and patience my teacher Brad gives is great and I feel I am improving week on week , love the pool good showers and changing rooms so all good
Fantastic experience: Lovely clean sports centre with very helpful staff
Positive experience: Nice staff
Positive experience: Nice clean swimming pool. Clean changing rooms, well managed. Staff are not very helpful, in fact a bit rude. This seems to be a common issue mentioned by several people’s reviews.
Negative experience: Very bad customer service and I have to wait in the queue for more than half an hour
Negative experience: Cannot believe how unfriendly and disrespectful the staff is. Out of all the gyms I’ve been to this is by far the one with the most unpleasant staff. Some exceptions but overall they are so rude. Awful gym don’t go there!
Fantastic experience: I had my sons 7th birthday party in the small pool last Saturday, and I highly recommend it. The whole experience from start to finish was faultless, the changing rooms was separate, we had a key for each to leave our stuff, a lifeguard watching the pool, a great member of staff in the pool, Jake was brilliant, he led the kids, he entertained with games, which was fun. There wasn’t many adults that wanted to get in originally until they saw it and we ended up with more than enough adults. The ends part that Jake did with the happy birthday was out of this world. We then went to have the food in the cafeteria and Tracy went above and beyond to ensure it worked out perfectly, every detail from the lights being switched off for happy birthday to the cake being cut!
Negative experience: Nice new and modern gym but not enough equipment for the amount of people that go there. Always busy and overcrowded due to overbooking . Frustrating when you have to wait 10 minutes between exercises.
Negative experience: My son got moved up in swimming today. Went to the reception to obtain his certificates where I was met with a very rude and unhelpful member of staff yet again. The lady with bottle blonde/white, short bob hair, reluctantly gave us an uncompleted certificate and told us to complete it ourselves as she had other people in the queue. There was only two people behind us and surely you deal with the people in the queue first before moving to the next. This ruins the experience of a nice new sports centre.
Fantastic experience: One of the really good Leisure Centres. Parking is 5 mins walk away. Loads of different activities to choose from. Gym is not massive but of a good size. Staff is supportive and friendly.
Fantastic experience: A really relaxing swim late evening in a warm, clean and calm leisure centre. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: My daughter had a swim party today in the pool. Jake was really helpful when I booked it and then volunteered to organise the games. It made the party really fun and the children loved it! Thank you
Fantastic experience: Very clean and friendly atmosphere, plus friendly staff to help you out..
Fantastic experience: We play Badminton at Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre as a family, the front desk team are always helpful and polite and the centre is kept clean and all fit for purpose
Negative experience: Nice gym Busy, if you like that … Cafe is nice Everything is clean & tidy lovely Gym staff & instructors My only criticism is reception staff are notorious for not being friendly they are rude & unapproachable :/ Also the sales team seem to sit around alot and the majority of them are not professional Once your passed them you’re all good to go ! It’s a shame that a lot of the reviews seem to mirror the same thing who ever is managing needs to call a meeting and address this
Negative experience: 10th February 2023 reception staff extremely rude and unhelpful. I was bringing my 2 daughter's for swimming, but definitely changing it to HSC swimming club. As not going to be treated like peace of **** by Everyone Active. By the way, was paying £66.66 for both daughter's a month. Your loss, not mine... Management definitely needs changing!!!
Negative experience: Good equipment yet sorry state of management. I had to cancel a not fully subscribed studio class as I was unwell and yet got charged a penalty which was not reversed despite repeat representations. The centre advises not to enter if unwell and I followed that policy. One class cancelled in 7 months of membership and got charged a penalty fee. Centre does not pick up calls and is poor in email responses.
Fantastic experience: Staff excellent, help and advice. Access very good although the hoist at the main pool is so slow they use the mobile one. Also two outstanding accessible changing rooms but could do with more. Recommend
Positive experience: Good to hear there free parking
Positive experience: The place is pretty good value. There are some issues though. Like sauna not being available all the time. Very annoying.
Fantastic experience: A great, clean and welcoming facility, the family pool is clean and perfectly warm! Will go again ;-)
Fantastic experience: Swimming pool is great has large lanes pool an small pool.nice temperature also very clean pool an changing rooms an showers,:hair dryers.all free for over 60 .
Negative experience: Clean centre however have found that some of the gym staff are rude and patronising. Seeing as some of us are paying £50 a month we don’t come to get a ‘telling off’ for little to no reason at all!
Fantastic experience: Lovley staff at reception
Negative experience: As a standard member this gym has been extremely frustrating. Upon signing up they said I could cancel any time if I'm not satisfied but then would not honour it. Classes are difficult to get into, probably because they hardly offer any. They want to push you into paying more for premium membership to get first dibs. There are more Fortis classes than anything else as that carries an extra charge but everything else is virtual. Management obviously only care about money. They often charge you for missing classes even after swiping in or threaten to cancel your swimming privileges. I have never even been late before never mind missed one so this is annoying to have to register official complaints online every time to get fees refunded and blocks removed. Finding times to swim with the kids is pretty difficult too. After school the earliest the teaching pool opens is 7pm which is rather late for young children. Of course this is greed again as they have back to back swimming lessons bringing money in and free use of the pools for members is not on their priority list. Even in school holidays they have under 5 sessions in the teaching pool which is really irritating when you have one child under 5 and one child at 7. They both would be fine in a teaching pool family session but other than weekends these are always set at inconvenient times for the 4 year old. The facilities themselves are actually good which is a shame as management are totally ruining what could be a good experience with extreme greed that makes you feel ripped off as a member. I shall definitely not be renewing that's for sure.
Fantastic experience: Very good, new sports centre. I've only used the pool so I'm only reviewing it. Excellent changing facilities with two accessible changing rooms, one with hoist and table for disabled adults. Poolside the floor is textured and non slip. Plenty of lifeguards around and they're very quick when needed.
Positive experience: Quite easy to book classes, being a new site ,facilities are good
Negative experience: Don't answer their phone.
Negative experience: Shocking, its like trying to contact the pope!!! Email response very poor and so is the telephone pick up!!! I've just hung on for 10 minutes and they pick up and put the phone down
Positive experience: Gym is large and airy. Can get quite busy at peak times, although don't have to wait long for equipment. Customers generally wipe down equipment after themselves which is good to see. Often see large groups of teens (still in school) hovering over 1 machine
Negative experience: Can't recommend this gym for those who take their training seriously. Thought I would try this club after being a long time Everyone Active member at other local branches and things were good for the first 2 weeks. Went in today and was confronted by a member of staff who informed me, bags are not allowed on the gym floor, even though it has been a non-issue on my 5 other visits. When I queried this and asked why I didn't get told this by any other members of staff I was simply told "well they haven't been doing their job then". Found the member of staff to be unnecessarily abrasive and frankly as someone who does take training seriously and uses a variety of personal equipment session to session e.g. lifting belt, weightlifting shoes, knee sleeves, foam roller, chalk, resistance bands to name a few, that this facility clearly isn't meant for me or anyone that takes their training more seriously than turning up with just a water bottle. Hats off to the other staff who I had some pleasant albeit small interactions with. See the attached picture for my recommendation on what to do if you're a member here who takes training seriously.
Fantastic experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Been using the gym for several years, really enjoy it. Staff very helpful and pleasant. It's very clean. It's well equipped. Very nice gym.
Positive experience: Very good pool and clean facilities.
Fantastic experience: Clean and modern. Swim there everyday.
Fantastic experience: New modern building, looks good feels good, and enjoyed my time there.
Fantastic experience: Excellent
Fantastic experience: Use this gym and facilities all the time. Staff are A-class and lovely. Would recommend for anyone to start using as their local gym
Positive experience: Poolside air temperature is much to hot
Negative experience: If you are an adult, like swimming early on Sundays morning at 7.30 am don't bother going to Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre. Public Swimming is in small pool at depth of 0.9 metre ( puddling pool depth). We have asked management to change it to 1.2 metre but they won't do it. Their argument is that parents come with their children. You can't learn to swim in a puddling pool !!!
Negative experience: Please do not sign up to this centre. They gave me wrong information and now they are not getting back to me to cancel my memberships after numerous enquiries through the app as they told me to do. They are nice over the phone but really hard to cancel my membership and it's not been activated yet! Very unprofessional
Negative experience: Rude cafe staffs who asked me and my 7 months old baby to go away when I was feeding the baby. I ordered food and drinks there but the staffs came twice to ask to leave after I finished my food. And the manager there even asked me what I was doing there and forced me to put away any food which is not sold by them. Actually the people who sit on the table next to me even did not order anything. Totally racist to Asian people. They only want to serve white.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and great value for money. I never found it busy and there was always machines (both cardio and weights to use) to use, even during peak times. Special mention to Catherine, Donna, Tommy and Tracey Thank you for making me and Reggie feel so welcome.
Fantastic experience: Great facilitues. Clean. Lots of staff. Swimming brilliant. Tried aqua swim aerobics today as well. Good fun.
Positive experience: 2 year old grandson started swimming lessons here. Very warm inside pool area so no need to wrap up if a spectator. Nice clean fresh look to it though. Staff at front friendly
Fantastic experience: Fantastic pool facilities for babies under 1yr. Changing rooms very clean and good amount of family changing rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Good choice of food in the cafe too.
Fantastic experience: Clean and fresh building, swimming was not overcrowded, need a pound for the lockers which you get back :-)
Fantastic experience: Amazing centre, plenty activities for the whole family. Friendly staff
Negative experience: The Olympic pool used to mega as you could get a decent swim in & the diving boards were open to joe public which were great fun. New centre boards only available for diving club. Public swim in the teaching pool not set deep enough at 0.9m so kids couldn’t really jump in. Pricey as well. Good points: Clean & modern building. Won’t be going back.
Fantastic experience: Really surprised to such a lovely building and interior is adorable
Fantastic experience: Nice clean place. Nice size pool. Would recommend.
Fantastic experience: Brand new leisure centre.
Positive experience: Restarted my swimming sessions, very happy with the centre and facilities But with early public swim public with very young children should have a area of the pool as I've found I'm not able to swim full length of the pool on occasions. The main pool is lovely but for the stronger and more confident swimmer especially at the deeper end.
Positive experience: Used to be good for a workout from what I can remember, just quite a few jobsworths working there however people are not monitored when using weights, ie, many occasions witnessed people with their hands down their trousers and then picking up weights straight after.
Fantastic experience: .yes very good it has a fun fair there and some show lick the Havering show
Fantastic experience: Great New Swimming Facilities
Negative experience: Got rid of squash courts
Negative experience: Very rude staff!!!!!
Fantastic experience: Really nice, clean facilities, friendly staff
Negative experience: I know the brand new leisure centre has only been open for 3 days, but it is a bit chaotic at the moment. Up to now I've been using the everyone active app to book a 45 minute gym session - and the gym is very good too. But now, their app and website are both down (for booking activities) and no one answers the phone. Also, when you arrive for your activity, you have to queue up outside, and there are people queueing for all sorts of things, with no assistance at all (you could be in a queue for no reason !) I am now going to walk there to see if I can book a gym session for tomorrow !
