Wantage Leisure Centre

Negative experience: The changing rooms are extremely grotty, especially the ones in the sauna. They don’t employ proper cleaning staff. My very expensive Ugg boots were stolen from outside the changing village, so beware. The staff didn’t seem to care at all and made no attempt to make other customers aware, so everyone still leaves their shoes outside the changing village. The changing room lockers all take 20 p ( who carries around a bunch of 20p nowadays?!) and swallow them so it’s ridiculously hard to lock belongings up. Weird times for swimming for the public, EXTREMELY limited. seems the pool is mostly for clubs etc. so all in all - not impressed by staff or facilities. Wish there was another pool in Wantage, but that’s it - no choice .

Fantastic experience: I have been using the Center for a few years now, and have seen it go through a few changes. Like the old saying don’t judge a book by its cover. It may look a little outdated, but in the inside the staff a so helpful, polite and always on hand if I have needed any thing, the gym is clean and has enough equipment for my needs, the pool is now at a good temperature, I use it regularly for my fitness swim and for the family.

Positive experience: It's a very nice, clean spacious leisure centre. Pool water is at right temperature compared to before when it used to be very cold. Started using this facility recently so unable to comment how cold was pool water. Teachers are really realty good too. Switching from didcot wave to wantage leisure centre was not easy with mixture if information. Viewing gallery for parents/guradians could be better as if your child is swimming at shallow end its difficult to see them as there's barrier of a big pipe (I think). Still very pleased with what they're currently offering in regards to swimming.

Negative experience: I absolutely regret my visit there the service was absolutely horrid and the staff were not nice. The hairdryers were completely out dated and a health and safety hazard. In the changing rooms there was graffiti scratched on to the doors and the lockers to put your stuff in where broken and needed fixing. We weren’t even aloud in the pool because we “couldn’t swim the whole length of the pool” even though we paid £7 to stand there and wait to see if we could go in I absolutely hated my visit and I will not be returning. I recommend that you don’t go there and just try another leisure centre.

Positive experience: Visited yesterday for the record fayre, found a few good items that I bought. Not a lot I took interest in but that's just my taste! Some sellers prefer cash whereas I only had card.

Positive experience: Needs maintenance and support from the council. Disabled toilet needs a goods clean

Negative experience: Very dirty and old installations. In the showers the walls are full of humidity, the ceilings the same, 90% of the lockers are useless, the hair dryer machine are a joke. Please review the quality of what you offer, not because it is accessible to everyone it must be in poor condition.

Positive experience: People are great, and the swimming instructors especially are brilliant, but unfortunately the overall experience is a tad let down by a run down facility - they're seriously needs some money pumped into it!

Negative experience: Sports Hall was 11C today....I get there is a energy crisis and I don't expect it to be hot, or even warm, but if the halls are this cold they become close to unusable for the little ones.

Negative experience: Gym has never been cleaned, most equipment is severely out of date or broken, most of the media doesn't work on the cardio machines. Water fountain has been broken for at least 3 months now The fitness instructors are friendly, but the classes are far too repetitive. Better off going for a run around the local park, far cleaner than this sorry excuse for a fitness centre

Negative experience: What a poorly run leisure centre. Staff don't say hi or even acknowledge you – until they think you have done something for which you ought to be told off. Changing rooms were probably cleaned sometime at the start of the last century. Or not. I would give it zero stars if that was an option.

Negative experience: I’ve only just come back to the gym after covid and I must say Avoid this centre! They claim to value their members but when complaints are made they are just fobbed off. the equipment in the gym is in the worst condition possible with the cable machine sticking, The seated leg press took 4 weeks to get fixed, EZ bar has not been replaced since the first lockdown. Pieces of equipment vanish with no explanation to members. cross trainers that have been out of order for 6+months since it was closed from first lockdown , dirt all up the walls, never seen one member of staff clean the gym. Equipment seems to be getting moved around every 2 weeks with no order to where things are placed( complete mess with no organisation). sauna is rancid with mould under the benches and in between the gaps of bench, floors slimy that are never cleaned and holes in walls in changing areas, sauna shower doors are filthy with scale all over walls as well as yellow body fat. all lockers have been taken away, mirrors are covered in spit, best one is that you can’t refill water bottles as the fountain is broken and I’m told has been for 2 months!!!! Seems like management are useless and no longer care about it’s members. I even heard management speak to members horribly. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Fantastic experience: Nice centre. Good pool, plenty of parking ..no free tokens needed from desk as exit barrier broken at the mo. Not used other facilities as yet

Negative experience: It’s such a terrible swimming pool, I have nothing positive to say. Was very very run down, dirty and cold! The pool was too cold and the building was cold, which is surprising since I’m sure that there must be a regulation for the pool temperature. I never leave reviews but it was so bad I had to do my civic duty and save someone’s Saturday afternoon. I’ve not been to another pool in the area but I’m pretty sure you can’t get much worse so take a chance and go elsewhere.

Positive experience: Decent, affordable gym and pool, although the weights section is a bit small so if free weights are your thing it's a bit of a gamble on other people not showing up to use them at the same time.

Negative experience: Few years back I gave 4 stars. Now it is only 1 star. Showers are blocked with hairs, water under the showers is cold. When you inform staff about cold water, their answer is: people used water in the morning, so now the water is cold. When asked about kids clubs, they do not know anything and ask you to come back in few days time.

Negative experience: It has fallen in to total disrepair. It is typical money saving tactics if small repairs were done when needed then it would cost less than the huge influx of cash that is now needed to bring it up to any health and safety standards.

Negative experience: The most terrible company to deal with - happy to take my money but point blank refuse to give me any information about my child’s swimming lessons or allow me to contact anyone to find out anything at all. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I have nothing positive to say about the ‘Better’ experience!

Positive experience: Started going here for swimming. Friendly staff, easy to purchase swim ticket. Could do with more parking spaces especially at peak times. The only place I know where you have to take your shoes off before entering the changing rooms. All lanes not always open due to staff shortages. I enjoy swimming here overall and will continue to visit.

Positive experience: Good quiet gym area, the only thing stopping a 5-star review is that there is quite often at least one or two items in the gym that is out of order, and they tend to be out for a couple of weeks. With the monthly fee recently rising this doesn't feel like it's worth the money - as it's clearly not going towards better equipment. The staff are very friendly and I have not had any other issues while using the gym area. The same goes for other areas of the centre which I have used.

Negative experience: Regular cancelled swimming classes (3 this year so far) which do not get automatically refunded and you need to chase members of staff to get it back. This is not just me but talking to other parents it seems to be a common malaise here, watch out. Other than that the swimming lessons are good and facilities are very clean.

Positive experience: There is a wide range of facilities here and there are improvements being made over time but the gym is tired and dated in places. It is however the cheapest in the area and offers other energetic activities and classes that are not offered by other gyms in the area. Can be good just depends on what you want to spend your time on as to how much value for money this leisure centre is.

Fantastic experience: Wantage is a great facility and has something for everyone, including: an air conditioned Gym with technogym equipment, an indoor 25 metre swimming pool, a relaxing sauna, fitness class studios hosting a variety of classes, a large four-badminton-court sports hall, creche, squash courts and free parking.

Positive experience: Our kids love castle chaos, great fun especially for parties.

Fantastic experience: Great Leisure/Fitness centre with a clean and up to date gym, lovely warm swimming pool with Just the right temperature. Great idea to have a Creche in it as allows me to do Fitness classes whilst my little one is taken care of. And the best thing is the staff! The best customer service! Polite friendly and helpful! No complaints at all! Thank you!

Negative experience: Very disappointing. Some staff are rude and tried to overcharge me. Also I had to go back 4 times to pay for swimming classes as you can't pay online and their system was crushed every single time.

Fantastic experience: Have been going to the gym here since October. Had a doctor's referral which meant I had a trainer overseeing my exercising. Cannot praise Quentin highly enough. Such a lovely guy and very supportive and encouraging. The gym is well stocked with all the basic equipment: treadmills, bicycles, rowing machines, weights, cross-trainers and more. Very pleasant atmosphere there. Tuesdays and Thursdays are when the GP referrals tend to go, so lots of people who don't look like regular gym bunnies...so very easy to fit in regardless of age, size or ability!

Positive experience: Lunch time Swim - ideal temperature and very warm showers made for a pleasant swimming experience. I shall be returning!

Positive experience: Decent leisure centre with swimming pool. Pool is standard rectangle so no theming although they do host parties and have inflatables sessions. Gym and lots of classes available. Swimming lessons available. Changing area recently refurbished.
