Broomfields Leisure Centre

Negative experience: As a WBC employee I thought I'd join the Livewire gym to get choice of locations. Broomfields being the nearest. Very poor, showering facilities limited especially when schools are using the centre. (Not my problem if I'm honest). The place us in extremely poor condition it's exactly the same since the 80's when I did judo there on Monday nights. Water leaks from the roof abound and the car park is badly rutted and waterlogged. It was actually closed due to this last week so I went to the Woolston facility. The female member of staff was badly informed regarding the location of showers and was quite oblivious of me waiting at reception as she was chatting to another lady about her ailments, another member of staff advised her that people were waiting to be admitted. All in all I'm going back to Energie gym in Latchford, cheaper as well. I'm disappointed but what does one expect from a council that cant manage its affairs

Negative experience: AstroTurf is ok, everything else is in direct need of a refurbishment. No, more than that it needs knocking down and totally modernising. I was one of the first school kids to use the swimming pool. Literally the first class and that was back in 1970. Over 50 years ago and there's nothing nostalgic or worth keeping.

Negative experience: The fitness changing rooms & Sauna facilities both need a complete revamp & more realistically, the whole building needs rebuilding. The building’s footprint is limited, so if ever rebuilt they probably need to add another floor for more space. Currently, there is only ONE shower in the upstairs male fitness changing room. This small changing room can probably only accommodate about four people in total comfortably. Ingeniously a hand drier has been placed above the bench in the changing room so if you sit under it expect to be blown to bits. The Sauna downstairs has been out of action since the pandemic, looks like there is no intention (or money) to get this working again. You cannot use the swimming changing rooms when schools are in, which is annoying, but there was barely enough room to get changed in the sauna room if there were more than three or four people in there anyway. Just a small bench and two changing cubicles in that room. Humidity in the Sauna room was also always very high from my memory, so it was difficult to get dry in that room after using the Sauna. Another thing is the gym is missing items of equipment that is available at other Livewire sites. No bicep or tricep machines here. Yes, the gym is a smaller one here, so there are limits to what it can accommodate but I’d rather have at least one of everything rather than numerous treadmills & rowers etc.

Positive experience: Place is definitely in need of a face-lift, but for what it's there for the gym and swimming and badminton it's all there what you need. Staff really friendly and even the cat that sleeps on reception is adorable

Positive experience: The pool is exactly as I remember 25 years ago, the roof still leaks into the pool in the same 5 places and the air con ducts look like they contain the germs bound for the next pandemic. It's about time south Warrington got some of the promised 'levelling up' money. Every other part of Warrington has a new state of the art leasure facilities, unfortunately not this area, sort it out WBC. PS - the staff on reception and pool side are great

Positive experience: I like it there but changing rooms and shower for gym are not that good but the equipment is modern and just as good as all the other gym in the group just a bit smaller.Needs a big refurb.The staff are always nice and welcoming.

Positive experience: By far the worst thing is its showers, particularly the private ones in the mens side. 1. Very poor coverage due to very small water output so getting the pool water off the body is not effective and it becomes a skin irritant. 2. No temperature control. Sometimes the temp can be too high and it can feel like its burning. 3. No directional control so the water does not get to where you want it ( but there is not any to be had anyway) 4. They have been like this for years. Compare this to the Orford pool and it is obvious that Broomfields has had little investment. Having said that, the Orford pool showers are quickly going the same way. And that is just the showers. Want to talk about lockers, hygiene, etc?

Negative experience: I'm not sure if it's ran by the Leisure Centre or they rent the pitches out but AVOID the Tuesday night football league, it's an absolute farce. Referees kicking off with players and everything, trust me, play elsewhere.

Positive experience: Generally quite clean. Has chlorinated swimming pool, badminton courts which generally needs booking, offers some glasses and has a gym. Has parking space but could be hard to find when busy. Staff is nice.

Positive experience: Needs to be upgraded and the lights in the sports hall need improvement

Negative experience: multi-purpose sports hall needs full renovation, which is long over due. Floor is slippery for racquet games and needs proper floor covering.

Positive experience: Though it's not a large swimming pool, it's nice and clean and a fun place to take the kids for an hour or so. The staff are lovely too

Negative experience: The ladies changing rooms for the swimming pool are atrocious and dirty. The showers are often far too hot or just too cold, there seems to be no control over the temperature. The shower water drains into the floor of the changing area so the floor is constantly wet and filthy. On the plus side the swim teachers are good. The council needs to step in and pay for a refurb desperately!

Negative experience: Was great but has took a nose dive since covid. Staff trying their best but the place is in dire need of extensive refurbishment. Needs better parking system for the very busy astro out the back?

Positive experience: The gym has great up-to-date machines where you can listen to music, play games, watch YouTube and even Netflix. Swimming pool, classes and badminton/tennis also available. The memberships are pretty good value when you factor in the swimming etc but paying as you go can be really pricey, it's about £7 to go the gym.

Positive experience: Love going to the pool with my friends on a Saturday or Sunday but can get a little packed and I’m not sure how to join the gym

Positive experience: Good sized centre, a bit tucked away, so you could miss it. It's clean and functional, but not particularly exciting. Has a pool and large gym hall. No cafe.

Positive experience: Parking is a challenge sometimes, the hall's flooring is slippy (IMHO it's risky to play on), lights are strangely distracting when you play badminton. It could be a nice place if they would decide to refurbish it.

Negative experience: The gym is very old and out dated, especislly compared to the one in orford. Free weights area is tiny and often the gym is full of children from the school messing about. Not a good gym really needs modernising ASAP!

Positive experience: Generally good facilities, small gym tends to gets busy around lunchtime and is used by the adjoining high school during wintry conditions for PE. Often have issues with the water temperature and pressure in the gym changing rooms (being addressed).

Fantastic experience: Swimming lessons are very good. They are very supportive towards the children.

Negative experience: It's a standard rec centre. It's usually our last choice for badminton despite being local as they only have a few strangely scheduled slots and the floor is so slippy that it's a recipe for injury. Trying to back track from rushing the net makes you spin on the spot. There is more money in selling the hall to women of a certain age doing keep fit or zumba than actual sport. So much for an Olympic legacy hey?
