JD Gyms Liverpool Belle Vale

Positive experience: Are the gyms franchised? Who manages this one and why is it so neglected? The hand weights in the studio are horrendous or missing, weight clips bent out of shape and not enough, too many empty weight shelfs, snapped cables on equipment, bent weights. When you look around other surrounding gyms, you have to question why they are in such good condition and our local one isn't. Where is the gym membership money going to? The only thing they put money into is the cardio machines. Please listen to your customers and give this gym the attention it needs!

Negative experience: Usually the gym is OK but it seems like the staff who have worked here the last couple of months are more interested in doing literally anything other than looking after the gym. Not a weight in its right place. Music literally blaring until my eardrums bleed. I just want to listen to a chill podcast but no, I have to listen to drum n bass pounding through every inch of my skull as I continue my futile search for equipment. And don't even get me started on the groups of lads vaping between sets. Where's the gym community decorum? Sad

Positive experience: This is a very busy gym so therefore regular maintenance is essential. I regularly use the "concept 2" rowers on all of these the foot straps are getting losser with each pull, feet need to be tight in & not move plus there's a disruption to my training when I have to keep pulling straps tighter also batteries need to be checked for there is a few rowers we're batteries are dead. I also use punchbag, first of all I appreciate this may not be possible due to space in the gym however to have all bags grouped together is not good due to all persons on bags bumping into one another. I myself is mindful of not getting in someone else's way & some other people are to but most are not so with that said it would of been more appropriate to of hung bags up individually. What is of more importance now is that the stand holding the two remaining bags is Very Unstable you can see the bolts are no longer secure in the ground & with each punch & force to the bags the whole frame is shaking & becoming looser from the ground & is only a matter of time before the stand completely becomes unattached from the ground which will result in an accident. As a regular paying customer using the equipment you provide all needs to be fixed accordingly. Kind regards Maria

Fantastic experience: Better place, good equipments and very helpful staff.

Negative experience: The gym is always cold. They never turn on the heater. It is really freezing in the gym. The machines are broken and it taken longer than expected to fix them. Kettle bell are too rusty.

Fantastic experience: I go here for classes. Love yoga here. Great instructors. Plenty of kit and never struggle to find equipment. Sometimes finding weights for bench pressing can be tricky but that's down to other users.

Fantastic experience: Hey, gets the job done. No sauna.. does the locker room get locked at 7ish like Edge Lane?

Negative experience: Not bad equipment but, Winter time the gym is colder inside than the weather outside. Extremely uncomfortable to train there, even the PTs are wearing jackets inside - I asked one of them to turn heating on he said no point as it doesn’t work. This lead to me pulling my muscle as I was sweaty in the cold..

Negative experience: Boxing bags are in awful condition very old equipment

Negative experience: Weights strewn everywhere all the time. Machines frequently broken and take forever to get fixed

Fantastic experience: Easy to sign up. Gym was clean. Equipment reasonable. 24/7 means go whenever you want. A no frills place to get a workout in.

Negative experience: Good gym but falling apart, machines been broke for months now it’s silly. Pec flys and lat cable pull down broke for ages. Joke

Positive experience: Great gym, will be even better when it's open 24/7 - I just wish it wasn't limited to one visit per day, as some days I like to do a yoga session early morning then come back and do a training session or a class later in the day, but I can't. Toilets and changing facilities are usually nice and clean and tidy. Studio is nice and spin room is great. Nice big open space, so you don't feel like you're on top of one another.

Negative experience: This gym is really not taken care of. The machines are broken and no one fixes them for ages.

Positive experience: Music a bit too much

Negative experience: Whoever works the Tuesday shift needs a talking to. Literally three Tuesdays in a row someone has decided to higher the music up treating the gym like it’s a Saturday night out. Absolute jokes man. Keep the music at a bloody reasonable level. If you aren’t going to buy any new equipment for over 5 years the least you can do is keep the music at a normal level. Worse JD gym in the city.

Positive experience: Good gym. Nice atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: Good gym. Free parking. Good location

Negative experience: By far the worse gym I have been too. The weight machines near the changing rooms are rusty. The cardio equipment is extremely outdated. And the gates to get in and out of the gym is a nightmare. Needs to be better. Genuinely the worse gym In the city.

Positive experience: I do like this gym for the most part, plenty of equipment to use good secure entrance now with scanners so keeps the kids out, biggest downside is the amount of people just sitting on equipment playing on there phones doing nothing, just have some decency and move if your not using it

Positive experience: Good gym. There’s an issue with people just sitting on fixed weight machines on their phone whilst resting.

Positive experience: Roof leaks, staff invisible.

Fantastic experience: Great

Positive experience: Showers could be cleaner, always smell vile. But as for a gym it’s good.

Negative experience: Noticed the past 2/3 months some of the machines need work on, always out of commission the upholstery on some of them need replacing.don’t see any staff to report the issues.but hey it’s cheap.

Negative experience: Still easily the worse JD in Liverpool. No maintenance, lots of broken equipment, some cable machines still have different weights on either side so impossible to do flyes. No Seated calf. See pic of decline bench - leg part is hanging off and you have to put a plate to stabilise it. Plus points - staff are friendly, Leg press is the best I've used in a JD, small weights to add to machines (most JD's don't have them).

Negative experience: You need to sort your staff out. Every night after 8pm a gang of kids between the age of 11-15 come into the gym unchallenged by staff and basically mess about , even seen a few of them vaping… staff are basically non existent and when they do show their face they don’t challenge this gang of kids that clearly should not be in the gym at that age. I’m yet to see how they get past the turnstiles but I can only assume their getting let in by staff but nevertheless they are getting in and messing about so it’s no suprise why things are broken. Sort it out JD this doesn’t happen at edge lane gym the staff their are excellent and are always a presence and I’ve never in all my time there seen anyone under age of 16 unlike belle vale which has become a youth club I wouldn’t mind if they wanted to come and learn how to train but their basically using the gym as a sit off, I’m sure the insurance company would not be best pleased if there was an accident

Fantastic experience: Join the gym for an amazing £5 for the first month. Great gym clean and tidy friendly staff and a great spin instructor Dave. All glasses are great and less than £20 a month would recommend to anyone.

Positive experience: The gym space is good and most of the staff are helpful and friendly. However it's the same problem every year. It's freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer. Last winter I asked for the heating to be put on and the staff member (who had about 20 layers on to try and keep warm) told me they were not allowed to put it on and that head office controlled this. I've recently had to stop going to the yoga class with Gary (which I love) because it's just too cold to do yoga in the studio and throughout the class there is cold air blowing in. Apparently the thermostat is broken and due to be fixed. Still waiting. The bathroom/shower areas also need to be updated. Some of the other JD gyms have saunas in. This would be a great addition. Honestly with space at Belle Vale, this gym could be so much more.

Positive experience: I like it here, there’s a good range of cardio and weight equipment. Could do with a few more of the tall bikes instead of so many low ones. The worst thing though is when I get there around 5:30 pm the volume of the music is absolutely ridiculous, it’s like a night club! It’s not really enjoyable music (in my opinion), I can even hear it booming through my ear phones!

Negative experience: Was much better as and exercise for less gym, took more machines out of it then it previously had and just gave it a lick of paint, not even 24hrs like other jd gyms and terrible opening hours at the weekend

Positive experience: Next to free weights there is noise cause of speakers which is make headache please sort it

Fantastic experience: Could do with less mobile phone use by customer.

Negative experience: Friendly staff, OK facilities. The music is incredibly loud - so loud that I can’t hear a podcast with headphones in. Also it’s very difficult to cancel your membership online.

Positive experience: Good gym but some of the gym equipment needs replacing. The leg extension machine is abit of a joke. There is no material left in it you are pressing onto metal. Cut my leg the last two times I have used it.

Negative experience: The studio and spin class rooms are next to each other, the spin class always has the music blasting out way too loud. Makes a pilates class or using any of the machines near the spin.class unpleasant. Some of the equipment is worn and needs maintenance. The Zumba leader does not use a mic headset making it difficult for new people to follow the moves. Like others, I have to knock on the staff door to actually get assistance from staff as I don't often see them around. They are there!

Negative experience: No parking could not gain accessibility to the gym. Finally someone let us in. Ste the barber was his usual friendly self. Nice man good barber what more could you want. The gym side was like zombies woundring around waiting to eat you.

Fantastic experience: Great facilities. Usually quiet after 8pm and not to busy first thing in the morning from 6am. I've got the multipass (extra £5 per month), which allows you to use any JD Gym. I regularly go to the lunch time HIIT classes in the Dale Street gym in the city centre - highly reccomended as its basically a PT for free! If I go right after work ill go to Hunts Cross (seems a lot bigger!)

Negative experience: phone keeps cutting me off and no voice mail and the email is a waste of time

Negative experience: Does anyone work here anymore? Never see staff, phones never get answered. One time having lost property and couldn't get through on the phone for 2 days until I showed up in person again. Different occasion, Rang the call buzzer as I couldn't get in and had to climb the turnstile, pressed the call buzzer for when you're in the gym, no answer. Shut when it rains because it floods. Too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter. If it weren't the gym that my family goes to I'd have swapped a long time ago

Positive experience: Decent gym, everything you need. Would be nice if equipment was stacked in the correct place more often than not

Negative experience: Air con doesn't work. The gym is about 28 degrees. Complained to JD multiple times and no real action is being taken. Poor customer service.

Positive experience: Used this branch of JD gyms for the first time, great how spaced out the machines are and not to busy either, the let down for me was the shower heads they are garbage especially when you compare them to the ones at Liverpool South.

Negative experience: Got a email before Christmas to start again for £5 first month, thought ide give it another go… will not be coming back last day 28th jan :) Attended a spin class my gosh, no effort put in whatsoever from the instructor worst 45 mins ever, so repetitive. Turned up today to do a burn class and the whole class ready to go at 5:30pm… no instructor, no communication from the team to say it’s cancelled then a member offered to run the class how embarrassing. A paying member took the class.

Negative experience: Excellent staff , equipment is still from X4LESS!!! Needs new equipment

Positive experience: Big cavernous gym so you never feel hemmed in and can get on with your workout with a real sense of space. Good range of equipment and there's always someone going around with a vacuum cleaner so it's very clean in gym, changing rooms and showers. Plenty of free parking outside in Belle Vale rooftop carpark. Only issue is the gym is flipping freezing cold so wear a hoodie in winter months. Gym is still the same - it's biggest plus factor is the sense of space and when I go in daytime it's never too busy.

Negative experience: Gym is a joke absolutely freezing glib remarks of get the staff to make you a cup of tea doesn't cut it Gym has duty of care to all users including staff pull your finger out and get the heating sorted this is not a problem that has just appeared its been going on for a while now before even the first covid lock down freezing in winter roasting in summer but still the issue is never addressed if your wondering why people haven't complained before it's because they believe the excuses it is temporary and will be addressed and its never quite been as cold as this week so people get on with it but that doesn't fix any thing if you have any sense of responsibility sort it

Negative experience: The lack of maintenance on the devices is something that makes it difficult to perform some exercises. On some, something like oiling, tightening screws and changing the upholstery would solve the problem and be a game changer! And also the gym is freezing in winter and very hot in summer. In other words, no thermal insulation at all. And nothing is done to soften the thermal sensation.

Positive experience: there is this one coach, short, stocky, very unpleasant. we have had trouble with him three times already. he behaves as if it was his gym, he comes to exercise and he brazenly takes the equipment, because now he will be doing, other times he had a girl, and the same, he comes up and says that now he will train here. It is very unpleasant, it is just rudeness

Negative experience: The time it takes them to fix the broken machinery is unbelievable. And the AC is never on. Always too hot in there. You’re always boiling! Actually disgraceful.

Positive experience: Well equipped, clean and spacious. Could be dramatically improved by a sauna or steam room. Every other JD gym I use has one.

Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere! I’ve always been nervous going to the gym alone but it’s very friendly and relaxed! Staff were great and cut the lock off my locker as I’d accidentally locked my key inside ‍♀️

Negative experience: The gym light is very dim, like a bedroom or coffee shop There is not enough equipment as all members

Negative experience: Gym is so dark.There is not enough equipment and devices, there is only one leg press, one leg Extensions, one lying Leg curls machine one flyes machine and for use them, you have wait in queue for at least 15 minutes. The dumbbells are irregular and their number is less and not enough for all athletes.

Positive experience: Good gym with lots of equipment but some of it getting a bit tired. Needs better ongoing maintenance of equipment.

Positive experience: Very similar to gym in Hunts Cross/ Speke but more space. Machines are good and varied programme of classes including its own spin studio( like Speke gym) and separate classes studio. Ladies changing rooms include vanity bar with free hairdryers for users.Also TV screens by the cardio treadmills etc

Fantastic experience: On reading some of the poor reviews given I had to give another one!!. A few have mentioned how rude the staff are and the so called sweaty people not wiping after using the machines!!. Not sure what staff you have seen rude but I cannot compliment everyone who works there enough especially Danny!!!. As for people not wiping down how on earth does that warrant giving the gym itself a bad review!!!!, the staff are always and I mean always cleaning!!!. Too many Karen’s in the world right now!!

Fantastic experience: I joined Belle Vale jd whilst getting fit after a football injury. Never really trained in a gym before and was shown round by Dan. He explained the different pieces of equipment and even demonstrated them for me. I thought he was a pt after work but he explained he was part of the management team. Top customer service and a clean and friendly gym with lots of equipment for all kinds of fitness needs.

Is so approachable and is always happy to help with anything around the gym. Anyone looking for a gym definitely recommend this highly. My mum is new into the gym and everyone ,especially Danny, has encouraged her so much and made her enjoy coming into train and gave her confidence. Fantastic gym!

Fantastic experience: By far the best gym I’ve trained at! Always tidy, hygienic, good friendly atmosphere and I genuinely look forward to going in every session. Staff are quality, very helpful and just approachable for a chat. The manager Danny is quality gives everyone his time an talks to everyone in there makes newcomers feel welcome. Honestly wouldn’t train anywhere else, if you’re looking for a gym in the south Liverpool area get yourself down to this one honestly the best gym around.

Fantastic experience: Used this gym for a while when it was a previous chain and as JD, have to say there's been a massive improvement since JD have taken over. I'm quite stop start with the gym and have found it intimidating in the past - I love coming to Belle Vale as I find it's a really inclusive environment full of friendly faces staff and members included. I never struggle to get on machines and there's always staff about if I need any advice or tips.

Positive experience: Good amenities especially with the size of the gym. I know there is nothing they can do but maybe studio size needing to be bigger due planning studio work around classes. But very good gym no complaints.

Negative experience: Equipment faulty , clips for bars etc missing , pullys need oiling , equipment to close together. Sweaty people not wiping equipment down. Too warm to train, they have fans on which are useless.

Negative experience: Always roasting hot, people smoking vapes, no signs in gym prohibiting smoking (nothing has changed since last post, 12 months ago). Equipment dated, needs to improve.

Fantastic experience: I'm a woman who's closer to 60 than 50, have COPD and riddled with arthritis. I joined up to basically strengthen the muscles to support my joints, I've just started my 5th week with a PT named Luke, he has built up my self confidence and has me on quite a vigorous schedule, I must admit, I'm loving it!! I rate JD Gym Belle Vale 100%
