Brio Leisure Northgate Arena Chester is a family-friendly sports center located in Chester, UK, known for its welcoming atmosphere and diverse community. While the center is currently undergoing renovations, which has resulted in limited facilities and a reduced membership cost, many visitors appreciate the friendly environment that accommodates all ages and backgrounds.

- Inclusive and friendly atmosphere, welcoming people of all ages, genders, and races.
- Ongoing renovations to improve facilities, with staff members who are kind and helpful.
- Great option for families, offering swimming lessons and activities for children.

However, some visitors have raised concerns about maintenance issues:

- Mixed feedback on the customer service experience, with some instances of rudeness from staff.
- Overcrowded conditions during busy times, particularly in the swimming pool area.

Brio Leisure Northgate Arena Chester: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Currently undergoing a refurb with limited facilities, but they've also provided a vastly reduced membership cost to reflect this. Really friendly, all ages environment with something for everyone. Diverse range of ages, genders, and races in attendees, which is always a good sign to indicate a welcoming environment - which was something I was nervous about when first joining a fitness centre! Never experienced any discrimination as a gay couple who attend together, staff are kind and helpful. Beginner friendly, just ask at the reception if you need any guidance how to get started with a facility or class.
Thank you for your wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear that you find our environment friendly and inclusive, and are glad that our reduced membership cost reflects the current refurbishments. We appreciate your recognition of our diverse community and are pleased to know that you and your partner feel welcomed and supported. Our team is always here to help, so never hesitate to reach out at reception for any assistance you need. We hope to continue providing you with a great experience.
Negative experience: Owners have blocked off pedestrian access through the carpark creating a dangerous safety hazard for residents. When confronted management was extremely rude
Positive experience: Staff are fabulous and very informative. Venue is due a revamp which is currently in progress. Excited to see the changes
Thank you for your kind words about our staff - they strive to be as helpful and informative as possible! We're delighted to hear your excitement about the ongoing revamp and appreciate your patience during this time. We look forward to welcoming you back to see the improvements!
Positive experience: I use this with my son for the gym although at the time of writing a little aged. They are doing an update to the building and equipment looking forward to when the work is finished
Thank you for your feedback! We're delighted to hear that you and your son enjoy using our gym. We're excited about the ongoing updates and believe that once completed, both the building and equipment will offer an even better experience. We appreciate your patience and look forward to welcoming you back to see the improvements soon!
Positive experience: Requires renovation. Sports centre is always cold but otherwise good.
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your comments and are continually working on improving our facilities. We're glad to hear you still had a good experience and hope to welcome you back soon.
Negative experience: Dog shit. Rude staff. Unorganised. Sends out email last minute about closure then refuses to give refund stated in email until start of 2025. Don’t go here save your money and time go somewhere that has respectful staff and decent equipment.
Negative experience: Equipment in the gym is no better than a local hotel gym; some franchises have great stuff but there's no room for weightlifting. If you're a man and you want to use the showers, Brio leisure sees you no better than a prison inmate because all they give you is an open shower and dirty changing rooms. For the money, it's not up to scratch but isn't terrible.
Positive experience: Take my grandchildren to classes here. Good facilities & well maintained.
Thank you for your positive feedback! We're delighted to hear that you and your grandchildren enjoy our classes and appreciate our facilities. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
Negative experience: THE last time i went here swimming, and i do mean the last time, i was in the main pool resting on the side when a cock roach walked past. Unbelievable. The pool guy just brushed it aside and joked about it. The slide is always OOS. The steam room is pathetic and costs more. When i was a kid (40years ago) it was such a great place. Its now a disaster. The staff at reception need customer service lessons. It could be so much better. The location is great thats about all. Very sad.
Positive experience: It is a cheap experience for families, which is certainly a pro. It has small slides for smaller children and a flume-type slider for older children and adults, so it's a great place for kids. The water is fairly cool, although heated but it isn't 'cold'. The changing rooms are quite a poor standard - all hooks have been snapped off the wall and there are no cubicles - it is open plan changing rooms. There should be at least a couple of cubicles for those who wish to use them. There are family change cubicles but the queue for these is always rather large. During the casual swim, the lifeguards were not enforcing the swim lanes, which is an area 'cordoned off' from the family pool to allow people who wish to swim lengths to do so. It probably makes more sense to do away with the swim lanes during the casual swim if it isn't going to be enforced. This in turn means people can spread out more in the pool as it feels very cramped particularly at busy times. Overall I recommend. It has it's issues but it is a CIC so isn't purely about profit. Parking is free for customers for up to 3 hours.
Positive experience: Been going to Northgate arena for years, both for casual swimming and for children's swimming lessons. Staff have always been great and children love the swimming lessons. However, the whole centre is looking very tired. Constant broken benches and showers in the changing rooms. Tiles coming off the wall. Paint peeling. Fountains in the swimming pool always have cones on top. Half the viewing area is closed off, was told 4 years ago it would be fixed in months, still not fixed. In general it is a great facility with great people, but it needs a lot of investment to give it a facelift and properly repair the numerous temporary fixes!
Fantastic experience: Lovely swim lots of space, pool clean and warm, good facilities

Fantastic experience: Good fun swimming here, nice pool and reasonable water temperature. An excellent resource for the city. Well worth a visit
Thank you for your kind words! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your swimming experience at our facility. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for another enjoyable visit.
Fantastic experience: Excellent. Good welcome. Time given to explain fitness machines.
Thank you for your kind words! We are delighted to hear that you had an excellent experience at our facility. We always aim to provide a warm welcome and ensure our members feel comfortable using our fitness machines. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to seeing you again soon.
Negative experience: Very dated, dirty changing rooms/baskets, pool in poor condition.
Negative experience: Literally the most pathetic swimming baths in the country. I’ve visited this place four times, with my three young children, all excited and raring to go - and each time I’ve Visited we’ve not been allowed in due to some technicality with the time table being very unclear or due to issues with the pool. Never again.
Positive experience: We visited the Northgate Arena for a casual swim as a family of 5. The changing facilities are good for families with specific family changing rooms, and there is lots of space. It was clean and warm in the changing areas. The pool was cool, not too cold, but not warm. It is clear that no money has been put back in to the place because it has not changed in years. The slide was not working and the place looks absolutely nothing like it shows on the website or on Google images. It is very run down compared to most other pools that we have been to. Despite that, we had a good hour long swim and then had lunch in the cafe which was nice. We didn't wait long at all, and the food was served hot - it was enjoyed by us all.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed your visit to the Northgate Arena. We appreciate your comments about the family changing rooms and the cleanliness of the facilities. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the slide not working and the outdated appearance of the place. We're pleased that you had a good swim and enjoyed your meal at the cafe. Your feedback helps us improve our services. Thank you for choosing Brio Leisure Northgate Arena Chester.
Negative experience: Highly disappointed this used be lovely pool but water is freezing which I didnt mind but had lack changing room space for families. The showers was small and un clean the toilets stank and made me feel sick. Was not worth the price paid. The pool floor was unclean and I cut my foot on the tiles as was slippy and grimmy. The log flume wasn't even open I been a few times and everytime it shut.wont be returning
Positive experience: Nice place to go swimming with the little ones. Various sizes of slide for all ages. The adult slide isn't often working. I always find it a little tired in places. Fountains not all working. Family changing rooms get very busy
Thank you for your review, Jason! We're glad you enjoy swimming with your little ones and are making the most of our slides. We'll look into the issues you mentioned and strive to make improvements. We hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Pool is just OK. Flume often not working. Very tired and needs a makeover.
Negative experience: First time in 6yrs... I was very disappointed they still have free swim sessions like COVID style. We had to wait around till the start of a session and we had to leave at the end of the session, there are only 4-5 family changing rooms, so we were waiting around alot. Waiting around after swimming with cold wet children, pissed me right off. Facilities weren't very clean, the swimming pool had traffic cones on the broken equipment, the slide was out of service. It also cost alot more than Plas Madoc in Llangollen. We will continue to go to alternative pools as it was abit of a naff experience. Lighting was poor. I remember how clear the water used to be.
Fantastic experience: Went to Topsy Tumble on a Thursday morning. Great set up, lots of activities for my LB to take part in. Great way to spend two hours with a 2.5 yr old and v reasonably priced.
Thank you for your kind words, Jenna! We're glad to hear that you and your little one had a great time at Topsy Tumble. We look forward to welcoming you both back soon!
Positive experience: More childish and not much to do for the swimming but great fun
Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you had a great time swimming at our facility. Your comments are valuable to us as we strive to improve our services. We hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Recently joined online to go gym and swimming. Unfortunately the swimming pool is not up to scratch. The play pool and the lanes swim are pretty much in the same area . The female changing rooms are very worn and smell , the cubicles have broken benches and hooks , the toilet's dont all lock and the basket system to hand your clothes in before into the pool is not ideal , plus they were dirty , The gym it self is ok ,the equipment is not to the highest of quality but they work , Also the app does not work , it keeps saying technical error so that's no good for booking on to swim , and the Web page is temperamental to whether it wants to work or not . I will not return due to all this . This place needs a re vamp that's for sure.
Negative experience: Payment system needs to be updated asap. People standing in queues with crying children as buying a ticket for anything takes good few minutes. It’s ridiculous.
Negative experience: Visited Northgate arena for the first time in 20 years today as I wanted to show my son the pool. We planned to visit Tumble Tots (soft play in the sports hall) then go for a swim but when we arrived we were advised that we could only go to the under 5s session in the pool so had to miss most of Tumble Tots to make the pool session. Doesn’t make sense that these sessions overlap really? It also wasn’t completely clear why we had to go to the under 5s session, there is a baby area in the pool so surely we can just use this at anytime? We might have missed something Tumble Tots was fantastic. Great value. Lots to do & good atmosphere. Unfortunately we can’t say the same for the pool experience. The pool was sectioned off into lanes & the deeper end looked to be out of service. We wanted to go swimming properly but the baby / shallow end of the pool is not deep enough to swim so it’s more just playing in water. The water was very chilly, we had a 45 minute session but the baby was too cold / shaking so we left after under 30 minutes The pool hasn’t been updated since I last visited. Definitely in desperate need of an update. The changing rooms were very outdated / pretty grim. I’m not sure how a mum alone with baby would be able to visit, luckily I had another helper with me. I wasn’t able to put baby down in the changing rooms as the playpen provided had no padding / bottom to it, just a tiled / concrete floor. If you’re alone with a baby you can’t carry baby & the box with all your stuff. There isn’t a locker system just a big plastic box you carry to the poolside. This just doesn’t work for parents of under 1s
Negative experience: As others have said. Facilities in a really poor state of repair. Slide out of order, toilets out of order. Water cold. And on top of that £18 for me and 2 children for 1 hour swim only is very poor value
Positive experience: Changing facilities really need sorting. Not enough privacy especially with mixed genders using the male change.
Negative experience: Poor facilities old and not well maintained. Rude staff. They still have Covid rules in the year of 2024 restricting what I can do with my young child! Ridiculous!
Negative experience: Disgusting place. Changing areas and toilets stink and are visibly filthy. Also it's absolutely freezing so much so my daughter now refuses to go here.. the slide is never in operation even during half term , terrible considering how busy it gets . They should knock this place down and build a more modern replacement
Negative experience: First time visitor here. This place is really hostile to first timers. Website did not make clear that the slide was broken or that you need to book even if you are not lane swimming so had to come back later. Once in the signage was not clear. There were only 4 family changing rooms so we waited to get changed. There were no signs to the showers so I didn't know where to go. When we picked our clothes up from the locker we were locked out of the men's changing rooms so stood there wet in the freezing cold. The man unlocked the door and told us not to use the lockers next time! Couldn't take all our stuff to the changing room and was now locked out of the locker room so had to go out to reception bare foot and back in to get our shoes from the locker.
Fantastic experience: Great facility's, swimming pool, spin bike classes, body pump, yoga, well worth a visit
Thank you for your kind words! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed our facilities and classes. We hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Sadly disappointing. Slide not open yet again. Place is well staffed and safe, but sadly very tired!
Positive experience: Pretty decent swimming pool, changing rooms are a bit dated but it must be difficult to keep a place like this up to scratch,, We've been to many pools in the area, and this is up there with some of the private ones,, We did the OAP free period which has a limit to number of swimmers, which was a great idea,, Be back next Tuesday,,
Fantastic experience: The gym facilities are really good and everyone has been so helpful to a “newbie”
Negative experience: The place is dated and looks a bit grimy although the staff do their best
Positive experience: Slide working so always a bonus. Very strong chlorine though.
Positive experience: Could be a little cleaner. Facilities seem to need revamping and some funding to get it looking nice. But staff are friendly enough and great schemes on such as tumble tots, under 5s swimming with toys.
Fantastic experience: Just like to post a huge thankyou to the team. I was in the area last week and wanted a swim session and am recovering from hip surgery. They let me use the special changing facilites shower room which was perfect for me. Enjoyed the swim immensely as I needed a loosener. Thanks again.
Fantastic experience: I have been a member for well over 8 years fantastic membership prices. It’s a brilliant place so many classes to choose from with amazing instructor’s. Since joining I have made so many friends it’s a very friendly place. Would recommend anyone to join.
Negative experience: Been using main pool a few months now..sick of seeing people dripping in sweat minging coming straight out of gym sessions in pool half way through booked lane swimming..absolutely gross dirty people can do this..brought to management attention but nothing done about it..
Positive experience: It's so outdated and run down looking and just doesnt look clean, probably because of this. After we paid we went in, then after 15 minutes was told to get out. It was so confusing. Then had to wait 15 minutes behind a locked gate and couldn't even get to our towels! So I spent the 15 mins in the shower with a freezing child having to constantly keep it on. Pool far too cold. So not great really. I won't be going again but it was something to do.
Positive experience: Massively in need of renovation. Unchanged since I came here as a child in 90s. So so outdated and dirty. Dry and wet changing rooms - only wet have changing cubicles. Both have open showers which I personally find uncomfortable and quite inappropriate. Strict 45 minute lane swim slot. Very Covid style and feels pricy for £6! Sadly it’s currently the only place in Chester for swimming with no gym membership. If you miss the 1990s, it’s worth a trip.
Positive experience: The aquafit classes are great. They have helped me find an exercise I really enjoy and will keep up. I can feel myself getting fitter since starting the classes last summer. Annoying problems with the Brio app. It keeps locking me out and stating my email or password are out of date. Both are correct, but the app keeps locking me out. It makes it difficult to book classes as I can't always get a reply on the phone. Booking classes has become a total faff. Please sort it Brio.
Positive experience: Just a I remember it from 20 years ago, slightly scary how little has changed, but it's still a great pool. Colder than expected for a family pool. Slide is excellent, as is the whale.
Fantastic experience: Had a great time withy 9 year old in the pool. Took me back 40 years when my parents did the same with me. Cafe also good for a coffee.
Fantastic experience: I only use the sports hall to play pickle ball but there's a good cafe, swimming pool, exercise classes, gym etc. Free parking if you're using the facilities. Excellent sports facility & reasonable cost.
Negative experience: In a state of disrepair, shocking as it was closed for a while for a refurb, the pool still looks the exact same as 15 years ago, same as the sauna and steam room. Grim atmosphere in the changing rooms with missing benches, broken hair dryers and mouldy wooden window frames everywhere, this grim feeling carries on into the pool area. Place needs knocking down and rebuilding from the ground up.
Positive experience: We go to the fun and floats for under 5s, my 2 & 4 yr old have great fun. I feel the session could and should last longer than 45 minutes though! Kids are not ready to leave
Positive experience: Pool is pretty cold. Ok for a proper swim but if you're taking the kids, have some soup first. I know, I know, there's an energy crisis and we're lucky to have a pool. Still charge you though, heating is extra ha ha
Negative experience: Grim ! Filthy changing rooms , look up above you at the pipes . Doors missing from cubicles or locks bent and they don’t close , missing tiles , very run down . Had to queue behind a gate before entering the pool even though it was almost empty . Cold pool , again all areas run down , stream room not working . Deep end coned off as they had shortage of lifeguards to watch it but reception don’t tell you that , and still charge you full price for a leisure swim. I wouldn’t use the showers as the floor was dirty so got changed and left . The reception and entrance area is nice enter the pool changing rooms and then it’s all goes downhill ! Felt ripped off
Negative experience: Never known a pool to need close every hour or so to change life guards. Everyone gets kicked out while it takes 15 minutes for a new one to sit down. Every other pool just gets a new one before the old one leaves.
Negative experience: Generally northgate arena is alright. However, they've removed the self check in machines, which can cause you to lose valuable time into a booked session like badminton etc. So sometimes you can lose up to 10 minutes just queuing instead of going straight into your booked court. Furthermore, if you book two time slots in a row with your partner.. they fine you if you don't go back to the reception to check in the second slot on top of blocking your account even though you did attend. The gym part of northgate is fine, I don't really have any issues with that. Lastly if you go swimming here, the staff don't give any instructions on what to expect for the first time. Specifically it wasn't clear that you put all your stuff in a green basket then take it out to the reception by the swimming pool. That could be resolved with better staff or just signage. In conclusion, bring back the self check in machines as it would greatly reduce congestion in the queue and the staff should communicate their expectations better for activities in general and be less rude frankly.
Negative experience: Dirty swimming pool with cones over broken fountains in the middle of the childrens area of the pool. Paint peeling from the slide. Dirty changing rooms. Will not return
Positive experience: Amazing pool and stuff but (its public changing so i warn u)
Positive experience: terrible website booking system doesnt work. didn't allow me to book swimming. they don't answer their phones and i couldnt find chat fucntion. we went anyhow and we were lucky they had lots of spaces
Fantastic experience: The pool is a huge fun pool, with a water slide and a large shallow area so kids can have fun. There's a good size viewing balcony. There are small slides for under 5s and little seating areas in the water. There were a lot of people play fighting in the pool, which I personally didn't like as you kept having to make sure you avoid them. The changing rooms are also large and there are 4 family changing rooms, but you can't then access the hairdryers etc from them, you have to go into the single sex changing rooms, which is tricky for father and daughter to do. Instead of lockers, they have a basket system where you put all your clothes and towels in a basket, hand it over, and get a wristband. There is a second more traditional 25m pool for swim lessons and kayak and various other training things. The cafe has been refurbished and also has a lot of seating areas. There isn't always a member of staff to serve you. You have to press a silent button and wait in hope, between 1 and 5 mins, for someone to appear and serve you. The sports hall is well kept and multi purpose, I saw pickleball and trampolining when I was there. The gym is upstairs, which I didn't see but was very popular. Parking is next to the arena.
Negative experience: Last week we went here and got in the swimming pool at ten to the hour and was all called out the pool 70 minutes later for the new rules because of COVID so we was told we can just wait and go back in. This time around the woman at the desk tells us we just missed a session and I told her what happened last time. She said we'd have to wait for the next session and if we wanted to go in again we'd have to pay for another session. So for one session in the swimming pool is 1 hour 15 minutes which costs £12 for my daughter and I. It's not ideal for people who have to travel on the bus. So won't be coming here again.
Positive experience: I hadn't been in over 20 years, and it still looks the same really, it's still quite good though, especially for younger kids. Found the online booking system a little over complicated.
Positive experience: Amazing place, never had any problems, staff are kind, amazing and never rude. Large pool which is now always fully open (used to be half closed due to staff shortages) which is amazing, a slide that is always open, pool can be cold though that's why it only 4 stars. Over all I have never had any bad experiences and will continue to go.
Negative experience: VERY disappointed with the service. Impossible to contact them. Wanted to take our grandchildren swimming. We went here a few years back. I couldn't get ANY response trying to phone despite trying 6 or more times during the day. Don't they have anyone on phone reception? Also, I did have an account but it would not accept my password. I tried numerous times to get a new password sent but NOTHING SENT TO MY EMAIL. Basically, we have had to give up trying to go swimming and have two very dissapointed grandchildren. Poor show Brio leisure centre.
Fantastic experience: Great for swimming, floats and swimming toys allowed if you have small children. Swimming is timed so you may need to check starting times.
Negative experience: After over 20 years it’s time to leave. Steam work seems to never be working after 6:30hrs, often short staffed given as a reason. They say they support veterans but only those who have left fairly recently. It’s looking very worn now, you can get an a lot more elsewhere for the £29 monthly fee they are now asking for. Really sad to see it become so unkept and rough around the edges. Don’t offer and charge for facilities you can’t deliver. Good buy.
Negative experience: I was in there and we went swimming. Horrendous!! The womens changing room stunk and the showers made me itchy, payed £12 for half the pool to be closed and it was too crowded and we couldn’t move. Dangerous!! Stayed for ten minutes until we got out and then we got changed. All of the hairdryers were out of order, the mirrors were rotten, the floors were disgusting and the staff didn’t care about it and they didn’t seem interested when I complained. Won’t be back again!!
Negative experience: Rudest receptionist I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Listened to her be rude to two seniors ladies, and then had her be rude to myself. Even my partner was taken aback by her attitude. Will not be joining solely because of her attitude.
Negative experience: Hello Water is cold half of swimming pool is closed (not enough staff) Just good and quality service can bring more client and People can pay cople pound more for this. Thanks
Positive experience: Limited parking plus you have to join up to use the arena and there is no connections for people over 60 which is not fair as they are on a limited funds as well
Negative experience: Horrendously outdated facilities. The gym itself is not too bad, although the equipment is quite old and there are usually a couple of machines that are not working. The pool, however, is disgraceful. It has not been updated for over thirty years. Often the changing rooms/showers are out of order and there is almost always a foul smell in there and around the edge of the pool. It is also usually quite dirty. The ladies that work on the reception are nice enough, but there is one older man there who is just so rude. It is definitely not worth the monthly membership fee.
Negative experience: I took my Daughter (4) to Northgate Arena yesterday to swim. She has Autism and doesn’t understand that we have to wait and became highly agitated and began screaming to be allowed in. I asked one of the pool attendants if I would be able to take her past the gate and hold onto her (I had picked her up at this point as she continued to cry) whilst we waited for it to be our time to enter the pool. I explained that she has autism and that she was making noise because she simply doesn’t understand she has to wait. We visit Northgate Arena at least once a week and have done so a handful of times over the half term holidays. I was told outright “no” by the pool attendant who then turned and walked away. I requested a manager to come over, whilst my daughter continued to scream and cry. A manager came over and I explained the situation to them also. I feel that if you’re going to have pool attendants and life guards working with children they need to be educated to the fact that there will sometimes be children with additional needs that enter the Arena to use the facilities. I felt completely dismissed by the staff members and ignored and this just isn’t acceptable when places need to be more flexible to children, and also adults with additional needs.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant place, had kids jujitsu competition take place there, massive leisure centre
Fantastic experience: My son is a member here and is 14. He goes to the gym every day after school and the staff on reception are very friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: The gym is really good. The staff is so nice and helpful. There is a variety of activities that u can do with your membership for a really good price. The equipment is really high quality and the place is perfect
Negative experience: Telephoned and enquired about 'kids' swim sessions. Told they were at 10.30am and 11.30am. Got there for 11.15 and asked for 1 child and 1 adult. I was asked how old the child was and replied she's 6, only to be told the 11.30 session was for 'under 5's'. The arrogant man on the desk wouldn't change his view, despite the fact it was him we'd spoken to on the phone. We are visiting the city for a few days, so that was one morning wasted, plus we had a very disappointed little girl on our hands. His only come back was that people 'know it's for under 5's'. They might do if they live in Chester but you don't if you are a visitor - plus its his job to give accurate information when asked.
Negative experience: The website is overly complicated and confusing. Want to book a swim for 1 adult and 1 child - only lets you book a 4 person family swim??? No one answers the phones either. Still havent managed to go yet
Positive experience: Didn't actually go to Northgate Arena, just walked past it! But I did used to go swimming there, did actually enjoy my time there, but unfortunately don't have the time to go any more!
Positive experience: Staff are always friendly enough and it's a nice big pool, but the whole place is looking it's age, and the pool changing rooms are freezing.
Negative experience: The staff in the gym area need to be taught about what weight lifting is, I was trying to do deadlifts and expected to not drop the weight after I'm done, you can not slowly put down weight after a dead lift without causing injury, they should be taught about weight lifting if they are working in the gym area, and also threatened to ban me if I carried on, definitely the worst gym staff in the area wouldn't recommend
Negative experience: The cafe in this place is awful the staff are rude you ring the bell and your waiting for over 10 mins for the staff to come and serve you never washed her hands after she came back from taking food out utter shocked and discussed with this place the mangers need to look at the staff they have in the cafe utter joke and so rude
Positive experience: Great swimming for young children age 2 and 5. It's dated but clean and warm water so kids didn't care about the decor. Family changing rooms nice and big for 4 of us. We visited 11am to 12.15. Queue on door as we arrived was dealt with quickly and we got out of the pool 10 mins before the session end so no issues getting a changing room. Need a 20p coin for a locker.
Negative experience: Swimming pool great for the kids, changing area awful, old and dated, only 3 family changing rooms and one of those was broken. Why on earth can they not spend money on these areas.
Positive experience: Nice place for leisure and sport for all the family. The site is a bit old fashioned and for the prices offered. The team is nice and helpful. Unfortunately the swimming pool is a bit messy .people looks fed up .the change room and crates for your stuff are just dirty .you have to wait behind a barrier steel gate until they release you to access to the swimming pool and 1.30 an horrible alarm push you out ....your slots is finished .there's no real swimming lines because staff don't really makes the rules respected
Negative experience: Rude staff member kept being snotty and not helping had to call manger luckly they helped us. Staff stormed off somewere bad customer service. Pool was nice a bit dirty and it smelt while waiting.
Positive experience: Current member yes its a bit dated basic gym. sauna steam and a pool oh and a sports hall which i dont use lol. I like the people there has a vibe doesnt feel commercial. been to others in past but always end up going back. £32 per month for all facilities bang in middle of chester not bad. parking is free if your a member aswell
Negative experience: Had a worst experience today. We always play badminton every Monday and every time staff they put the net up wrong so we always take it off and make it right so i went to inform duty manager name Louise just to tell her. She was so ignorant and she said to me *it take about 20 seconds to fix it* and i said its not about the 20 second im just saying every time it happens. She said in 20 years no one complained and i was *moaning* and she walked off. She said they set net for single players game but i knew she was making excuses and being ignorant. Asked for complaint form they didn't have it.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely time at the Northgate, having not been for about 3 years the staff were great very helpful to show me what was what lol I took my 5 year old grandson we had the best fun making memories just him n me had lots of fun we loved it
Negative experience: The worst booking system I have ever come across, My son loves the swimming pool but I am unable to book due to the terrible system. I now have a very upset child and they never answer the phone when it's telling me I need to call - awful awful awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Negative experience: Would not recommend for a swim. Guards were not bothered about maintaining safety rules with kids bombing left right and centre and cutting across swimming lanes. Would not waste your money coming here, could’ve saved myself money by sitting in a bath and doing nothing than coming here and doing the same.
Negative experience: Pool closes at 4PM on Sunday. Paid for a taxi and found out that the times on google were wrong. Also, why close the pool at 4pm on a weekend in the height of summer?
Fantastic experience: Blonde lady on the desk fir swimming was very sociable, northgate arena need to put your wages up as you stand out above the rest. The man seemed new and nervous, didn't have many social skills. They should make visitors to the pool aware that the gates may shut for 15 mins before you are able to use the pool!! As if you are on a time schedule you may not get much swim time. Overall the pool was clean, changing rooms were clean and one member of staff were very pleasant and welcoming.
Negative experience: Honestly felt like I was in prison. No cubicles to get changed the floor in mens changing rooms was disgusting!dirty ! We only went for the water slide which wasn't even on. Place needs knocking down.
Negative experience: Changing areas for swimming in need of major overhaul. No privacy - dad and daughter have to change in open plan mens changing room. Pool hugely overcrowded. Slide was closed due to fault. Not a patch on Northwich Memorial Court!
Positive experience: We looked up opening times - 6.30am! and brought our grandchildren to NGA at 9.45am to be told no swimming was available until 11am. As I’m disabled just getting there and parked up, this was disappointing, we went home for an hour and returned at 11, by now no disabled spaces left. we couldn’t find time slots on website to book in advance, might have been helpful. Slide still not working since our last visit in Dec 21. Children did enjoy themselves in the end.
Positive experience: Great public gym, reasonably priced and well maintained and clean - people were cleaning the equipment down with anti bac spray and wipes after use. We didn't go into the Pool area but we saw some of the classes in the main sports hall and they looked professionally delivered with everyone enjoying it.
Negative experience: The service at north gate is a disgrace we booked in for 2pm swim we got there a little early but we’re still allowed in only to get to the poolside to be told we can’t swim then we were locked behind a cage door like animals if they space swim out over covid it doesn’t work as there was about 30 of us behind the cage also my son lost his chain trying to call them and they never answer saying high volume of calls when in actual fact reception just sit there doing nothing stay well away from here you will not enjoy your experience visited again today 5/8 found blood in male changing room reported to staff and nothing done about it area not coned off just left absolutely disgusting
Negative experience: The website gave no indication that the main leisure pool was closed during the leisure swimming time slot. After travelling 45 minutes, we were confined to a single lane in a small pool and yet we're charged the full price.
Positive experience: I like it, good location, good childhood memories on the slide. I went here recently and it does look 90's ish. Could do with a refurb or turn it into a waterpark. But you need the dosh for that first.
Fantastic experience: went to collect my niece's graduation gown. I enjoyed having breakfast there too. Plenty of car parking space.
Positive experience: Large pool with plenty for the kids to do, including an indoor slide. The baskets are a good idea if you don't want the locker key wristband or carry change. The cafe has plenty of seating and decent options. The facilities are very clean but my only issue is that there aren't enough family and disabled changing units, which leaves several families waiting outside in the hallway, potentially freezing if they've just come out of the pool. That undermines the hard work Brio Leisure puts into making Northgate Arena family friendly
Positive experience: Pool is always heated to a warm temperature. Slide is great. However, closing off part of the main pool for swimming lessons is inconvenient.
Positive experience: Its quite a nice venue. Car park is small and quite expensive if you stay more than an hour so best to find other parking nearby.
