The Waterside Club: Opinions
Fantastic experience: I love this gym! The facilities are always clean and well-maintained, and the pool is a great bonus. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making every visit a great experience. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved the pool facilities, always clean and staff were friendly. The gym has a good range of equipment and was also clean and maintained. I never got to use the cinema, but I saw it while I had my tour done and looked cozy and comfortable to bring some friends over for a movie ☺️
Fantastic experience: The staff is nice and courteous. Always ready to help.
Negative experience: love thy neighbours, even when they leave their dirty nappies in the middle of the pool!
Positive experience: the pool is good, clean and the water is warm. The issue I cant overlook is that there is rarely any staff at the pool to regulate screaming children that jump in the pool and splash literally everything
Negative experience: Absolutely useless gym space, dirty and rude staff. Not worth wasting your time going there, it’s banking on the fact there’s not so many gyms around, it’s not being kept very nice.
Negative experience: Shouldn’t be on Google Reviews, it’s not a gym you can use unless you live in the building. Guess it’s the price to pay for buying a house and not a flat.
Negative experience: Cinema isn’t fit for purpose - broken chairs, wonky projector and only two chairs give you a good view of the screen Pool - booking is a nightmare, one of the sections in the hot tub pool has been broken for so long and no sign of them fixing it. Gym - good equipment, shame about them having a super rude and unhelpful member of staff.
Fantastic experience: Nice
Negative experience: I really hope that now they have fix everything, the online booking system doesn't work anymore. Apparently, the site used before trAnsfers you straight to somewhere else. No communication, we still paying for the fees, and I still need to beg to get any kind of communication. What a unprofessional group. They change the name, but the service remains the same
Negative experience: Totally useless and incompetent. I am a resident and have been trying to join this club for weeks, they have NO contact information anywhere online (there's a phone number listed on their website but it's the phone number for the real estate agent who handles property sales and has no connection to the club). There is NO way to register or even look at a brochure or acquire any information on price, opening times, anything! Obviously they do not want our money.
Negative experience: I was publicly harassed in front of everyone at the gym by a member of staff. I was working out with my sister in law that lives in the same building and he interrupted our session to ask if she was my friend. I felt extremely embarrassed, it really distressed my day, and not to mention that it was the second time he had done it to me. I am aware of the policy, and being questioned right in the middle of the gym felt terrible. A professional like that should never be working with people, he was rude and simply assumed I was breaking the rules when I wasn't. Both me and my sister in law have sent complaint emails and we have never received any feedback, let alone any kind of apology for the embarrassment.
Positive experience: Residents-only spa facility for the Waterfront buildings on the Royal Arsenal. Facilities include a heated pool, sauna. Steam room, “vitality pool” (jacuzzi), treatment room for massages and other beauty treatments and a private cinema (seats 12 I believe). Some initial teething problems which are now fixed.
Fantastic experience: Nice
Positive experience: These facilities are great - and still feel like new - in spite of some early (now non-existent) teething problems. (Pay no mind to the naysayers, honestly.) The pool, sauna and steam room are immaculate and perfectly kept. (And no, you don't want an asphyxiating sauna or steam room, people!) The gym is small, sure, but it's totally adequate, well maintained, and suitably equipped (complete with kettlebells, Bulgarian bags and more - though it could use a few more of each along with a couple of additional Olympic bars and plates). It also looks and feels new too. The best part of it all? It's never too busy. People who use these facilities are respectful. Staff are too. So you never feel like you're being hustled. There is a slippery changing room floor (which is worth a star deduction), but the place is just getting started, and anyway, it can remedied (am looking at you Waterside management...). All in all, a good find. The one-star wonders can shove off - they're clueless. ⛲
Negative experience: Steam wasn’t working for months, now it is.... but it’s not very hot! Sauna is not hot enough, you ask them repeatedly to put up but they don’t! There are so many health benefits to using the sauna, heat stress is good for your body but they don’t listen. The staff look miserable, I’ve seen the staff fall asleep by the pool which is totally unprofessional. The seats an chairs by the pool smell, the music played in the gym/pool is terrible! One minute it’s r&b slow jams, next is pop, then dance! I don’t know if I should sleep, swim or train hard!
Negative experience: Started like a 5 star hotel, it takes 6 months to become a place with health and safety concerns. Floors always wet and slippery especially on Sundays. Staff sitting on their phones. Steam room worked for about 2 weeks then never bother to fix. Jacuzzi didn’t work for weeks. Reported the issue on feedback form but received no contact from the management company. Rendall and Rittner said not their responsibility but charging the service fees for it. No one has a clue!
Negative experience: Unhygienic, disgusting and dirty floor in changing rooms, beside pool and in steam room. Many residents are unhappy with the standards of maintenance but feedback forms and concerns are simply ignored by staff. The gym staff spend most of their time wandering around, or on their mobile phones. The steam room is often producing no or little steam and not set to the industry standard temperature, which means that the health benefits that might otherwise be experienced, simply aren’t. As another reviewer has pointed out, this makes it completely redundant as there are no health benefits to a steam room that doesn’t produce steam or heat. To the one, lone reviewer who doesn’t like any type of heat from a steam room - don’t go in there and let the rest of us benefit, simple! The same reviewer insisting that there are no issues with hygiene or cleanliness has clearly never visited or experienced a genuine 5-star, luxury spa. Don’t believe the dishonesty, take a look at the numerous reviews listing maintenance issues or the trust pilot page for Rendall and Rittner, the property management company. Pure incompetence at all levels.
Negative experience: Was great when it opened but now it’s a mess! Jacuzzi only partly working, steam room not operating for weeks. Staff laying about not doing any work. Such a shame.
Fantastic experience: Amazing addition to the Royal Arsenal, the staff who work here are super friendly and helpful. The gym and spa are both beautiful and clean. It’s worth noting this is for residents only.
