Welcome to PureGym London Sydenham, a vibrant fitness center designed to cater to all your workout needs. Our gym offers a great variety of classes and equipment, making it suitable for individuals of all fitness levels. Many users have praised our Saturday Mind classes for their excellent variety of stretches that help target tension points effectively.
Our members appreciate the clean and friendly environment we strive to maintain. The staff is often commended for being friendly and helpful, contributing to a positive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.
However, there are a few areas for improvement noted by members. Some users have expressed concerns about the cleanliness of certain facilities, especially during peak hours when the gym can get quite busy. Additionally, feedback has included requests for improved ventilation and timely repairs of equipment.
Despite these challenges, many enjoy the convenience of 24/7 access, allowing flexibility in workout schedules. There are also opportunities to bring a friend along with our membership options.

Positive experience: Adequate gym, a decent amount of equipment packed into a tight space. Cleanliness of the changing rooms can sometimes leave a lot to be desired.

Fantastic experience: Not my primary gym, go there some Bank Holidays or when on holidays. Spacious, easy access, tidy and clean, lots of machines, friendly staff and atmosphere. Can't ask for more!

Negative experience: Been going to the gym for over 20yrs, so i've seen them all, and this is the second gym review i've ever given (first was positive feedback, following a wonderful experience in another gym), as i felt compelled this time, as this is without a doubt, one of the worst gyms, i've been to. I had no choice with my options, as i was staying in the area for a week, over the festive period. The gym is small, cramped space (literally working out in someone else's armpit), toilets smell rotten....for days (especially the disabled toilet on main floor - pour some bleach in the drainage), same ripped up blue paper (see photos) was on the main floor, from the first, to the last day i used the gym around 4 times. Gym is filthy, no regualr cleaning...evidently. Machines are old, rusty, some feel unsafe at times, plyo boxes are worn out, unbalanced and genuinly unsafe. Contrary to other reviews, i personally didnt find the staff friendly and warm whatsoever, and it generally felt like it was a hardship, asking for assistance, inquiring about equipment and items in the gym, as a visitor. The gym is hospitality and leisure, and its meant to be a welcoming, clean and safe space for people to better and feel good about themseles. Hopefully it will get better!!

Fantastic experience: Decent. Price of the Plus Premium membership is £35 per month. Can bring a friend 4 times per month. I can go to over 300 PureGyms in the UK. Cleanliness is decent. Can cancel membership whenever you want. 24/7 opening times is great. Also offer additional member benefits e.g. getting free Tastecard for 3 months. Lots of machines and equipment to work out with.

Negative experience: Was outside the bus stop ENTERED through (BROKEN DOOR). BECOUSE IS AUTOMATED (DOOR) it was open/closed ALL NIGHT. I WAS THINKING OF JOINING. BUT NOTICING °THE DOOR ISSUES AND ●A VERY RUDE AND UNWELCOMING MEMBER OF STAFF . THATS WHY I GAVE 2 STARS. SORRY AND CHANGE.

Fantastic experience: Really nice gym with excellent classes. The classes are varied and catered to all strengths and abilities. All the trainers are approachable and helpful. Particularly enjoy classes run by Kamarl, Elaina, Abiola, Marlon and Alfred. It’s a busy gym but have not had issues with equipment. Highly recommend.

Negative experience: The fact that the open training area is locked after 8pm is ridiculous and is the reason I’m cancelling my membership.

Negative experience: No tissue or spray to clean the equipment?? This is the most basic hygiene option a gym can offer so you can imagine how filthy it is. Literally no excuse for not having this stuff

We developed industry-leading cleaning and hygiene protocols, including the introduction of cleaning stations, to help keep our members and employees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the reduced risk and in line with the Government’s ending of legal restrictions, we have decided to remove self-cleaning stations in our gyms, which will also support our sustainability objectives by reducing our paper towel waste. We’re proud to say that many of the protocols implemented during lockdown, such as frequent and regular cleaning, and improvements to our air ventilation systems, will continue to be a core part of our TrainSafe Commitment. Positive experience: If you go during the day it's way to busy, have to wait way to long to use the equipment, I personally go late evening ,and another thing all winter the aircon is on,summer time no aircon,
Hi Mark. Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We have recently made slight changes to this area, looking at improving energy efficiency. This is both to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. By law, we have a requirement to provide a certain amount of fresh air based on occupancy levels, and our ventilation system increases and decreases at different times throughout the day and night, making sure we meet these requirements and provide good air movement around the gyms. These levels are based on size of the gym, and occupancy levels, and are regularly monitored. All member feedback is reviewed, and brought to the attention of our Facilities team, who regularly review any changes we make to our gym facilities and all feedback is taken into account when making any future changes. Positive experience: It's got everything you need, including classes that are sufficiently challenging (not easy). I gave it a 4, as the washroom was potentially 4/5. Main point is, you will be happy with Pure gym overall.

Negative experience: They need to sell less memberships- you end up working out in such a small area- inches away from other people during peak times. The stretch room is by far the worst- and the lighting is intense so when you do a workout on the floor you are directly under headache-inducing lights. A major concern is the showers- they're built like US toilets- stand on your tippy toes and you can see over them- with a huge gap underneath too. It doesn't give any privacy. I think it's a stupid design as anyone can walk in and just look right over the door. The staff though are super friendly and helpful, the classes are okay and its decently clean. With less members, less painful lights and a shower re-design it would be a hundred times better.

Fantastic experience: Kamarl is one of the best trainers there is. His classes are a challenge, yet aimed at all levels, and with his variety of exercises and pumping tunes, the class is over before I know it! Post-baby and I’m already seeing a result after just a few of his classes.

Negative experience: Very unsafe gym. Someone tried to hit me. Nobody was there to help me. Not even a staff member. Im gonna stop my membership right now and i m gonna change the gym. This incident happened on april 6 around 7pm-7.20pm. I informed the police as well.

Fantastic experience: Love this gym been going for almost a year now and it's always clean , the instructor's work well with us particularly, Alice in Pilates, Alex in Yoga and Sule in Bodytone classes are my favourites ,will keep continuing my journey with them! Thanks guys

Negative experience: I really enjoy this gym however I will say the floor space is ridiculously small. Also noticed it can be very dirty- it needs a good hoover. Apart from the minor negatives, overall this is a decent gym. The personal trainers also hog the machines for their personal sessions which is annoying too

Fantastic experience: Busy gym at 18:30. Managed to get on the equipment I wanted. Could do with more rowing machines and quite a few bits of kit needed repairs on my last visit but normally it's well kept.

Fantastic experience: I tend to use the gym week day evenings and weekend afternoons. It's never so busy I can't get to use the machines I like. Excellent value for money. I don't use them but if you want classes they are available.

Negative experience: Getting door codes working was hard on the way in and impossible on the way out. Less equipment than five years ago but at least its empty late at night.

Negative experience: The cleanliness of the gym is terrible, the smell is very bad. Whenever I go to train there I regret it, because I go in and the smell makes me want to leave right away. There were few times that I saw an employee cleaning something.

Positive experience: I've been going here for almost two years and would say it's a decent gym for those interested in strength training. There are two squat racks, two Smith machines, a couple of lat pull down machines, rowing machines, matrix machines, etc. The gym has all of the equipment you would need to work out. It is slightly annoying they only have one bench press, but there are dumbells up to 50kg so this should not be an issue for most. The main problem with this gym is just the building. It has very little ventilation and so smells quite bad, especially because during peak hours over 100 people can be in here. The weights room especially is claustrophobic and prone to overheating. There doesn't seem to be much the gym can do about this. Whilst others have said the gym is messy and full of bad customers I don't agree. People aren't the friendliest but this is to be expected in a 24/hr cheap gym. I have never been prevented from working out due to the behavior of others or the condition of the gym. Overall 6/10 and good for anyone who is local and just wants a straight forward gym

Positive experience: I like this gym. I don't know the staff personally but they all seem nice and put effort into keeping the gym tidy and well maintained. I would say though that this gym could do with a dedicated deadlift platform. Then it would be 5 stars!

Positive experience: Great gym but is there a way we can request some equipment? Such as some high boxes or the large tyres? I’m struggling to do pull ups for example without something high to stand on. I know space is limited but some extra bits would really help!

Positive experience: Fairly large gym, obviously during peak times there may be a wait for some equipment, but outside of peak hours there's a large enough selection of equipment that you don't really have to wait for any of it. Mens locker rooms are also fairly big, showers are clean, gym in general is clean and rarely is equipment out of order. Also a sainburys a 20 second walk away so can grab a post workout snack.

Fantastic experience: I like this gym, it is affordable and convenient to get to. The facilities are satisfactory, I especially enjoy the strech class, which has inspired me to try yoga, which was wonderful. I plan to do pilates and pump next.

Positive experience: This gym is a small/Medium sized gym, the free weight area is in the basement and can get quite clammy if a lot of people are down there. Decent amount of machines, best time to train there is probably off peak hours. Overall not a bad gym if your local and in the area.

Negative experience: From PureGym to PoorGym. Machines are regularly out of order or do not work properly. They take ages for repairing them. They have recently removed the self cleaning stations, so welcome to straphylococcus infections. The air con is switched off at night/ early hours of the morning. Avoid!

Negative experience: poor gym. Equipment damaged and never repaired. Staff absent and not interested in solving problems. Cleaning stations removed so be prepared to use non-disinfectant machinery. The app never logs weekend visits so it's useless. One piece of advice don't waste your money at this gym

Negative experience: I thought I didn’t booked a class (it didn’t appear on my app) so I got out of the classroom but then I noticed that in fact I booked it so I get in again to avoid that strike. The thing is that Abiola Akinkule without even asking the situation got me out of the classroom in the worse way possible. Being kind is a quality not all of us has.

Positive experience: Good Pure Gym (not the best one have been at but pretty good). Ample equipment so don’t really ever have to wait for use, good location and range of equipment is also pretty good. Only comment to management would be to fix broken machines faster - for example there are three step machines, but two have been broken for a month now.

Positive experience: The gym is deceptively large with a wide array of equipment. My favourite area is the studio: I love the combination of the lighting and the dark decor - it puts me in a good mood the moment I enter. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They always make a point of saying hello and goodbye whenever I enter and leave. All areas of the gym are spotless. I like the fact there is also a mini studio so I can still workout whenever the main studio is closed or there are classes going on. The only misgiving I can think of is that it is too popular and it can get a little crowded - even in the early morning. Despite this, it is still relatively easy to get access to the equipment I wish to work on. I also love how spacious the changing room is. Even if I lived miles away I would still return once in a while.

Positive experience: It's okey but need more weights (5kg&2.5) and more machines, the area where there are a lot of cardio machines on the top floor is no that much needed in my opinion, put more gym machines instead

Negative experience: Unfortunately PureGym Sydenham is deteriorating all the time. It was never the most relaxed atmosphere, but now the hot water is off again only three weeks after it was fixed after the previous two week outtage, two benches out of order, lots of other stuff broken, weights crumbling in places or disappearing.

Positive experience: Hello, generally a good gym. Giving it 3 stars as there was an issue with the hot water and they fixed it recently, however, it now comes out way too hot to the point where it burns your skin (and I do enjoy a hot shower). It's been like that since the last week and a half and I could not even do my hair today cause I couldn't handle it. Can this be looked into please? Thanks

Fantastic experience: They have excellent classes. Zumba instructor is particularly great. The facilities are clean and the staff are very friendly. Particularly the assistant manager. She is always very helpful. Highly recommended.
Negative experience: The cardio area in Sydenham smells like smoke - this is coming through the vents from outside. I asked the staff about it and seems like they just want people to ignore it. Can't be good for members or staff to be breathing that in...another lady told me she asked as well and didn't receive any answers or follow up. Won't be able to keep my membership here if this isn't resolved.

Positive experience: Small, cramped and low ceilings in the free weights area, and very few 1.25 and 2.5 plates. But it at least has two squat racks, which is good. If this is what it is like after a refurbishment, I can't imagine what it must have been like before.

Fantastic experience: I've tried lessons at crossfit in Catford , and the bootcamp at blackheath and I always end up coming back to puregym as the three guys here doing classes are just the best . And its insane value for money compared to the others

Fantastic experience: Excellent range of classes, good atmosphere and dedicated PT’s!!! The space has been used well following the renovation. I would highly recommend any of Abiola’s classes and Mo’s boxing class on a Wednesday.

Positive experience: Excellent place for workout. Open 24hr, not too expensive, has variety of classes and PT (if required). The equipment are wide range and located in different rooms for all skill level. I would defo recommend this place. Only 4 stars as when I go there for 5am workout, aircon is not on and gets a bit stuffy.

Positive experience: I would give more stars but they need to fix the smell of smoke that fills the place on a seemingly random basis. After a while it makes me feel nauseous. Other than that, I like the gym.

Positive experience: It's an OK gym, but feels quite cramped, I don't think there's much they can do here to make it better though as it's more building design than anything. Downstairs in the weight section is a bit moody, and you always have to search around for weights, they could have more plates available. The other issue is that it seems to be closed every other week due to Aircon, CCTV or water issues. They open up a nearby gym for members when that happens, but by nearby they mean Lewisham and Croydon, which are miles away. To be honest, I'd prefer to rejoin The Gym down the road, but with my work discount PureGym works out better.

Positive experience: Been going here 2 years. The renovations last year were very good. It can get quite busy and the plumbing and aircon often have issues. I wish the studio could be left open in the late hours too.

Positive experience: Lovely gym but it is way too crowded and not very spacious. I literally walk in and don’t know what to do with myself because majority of the equipments are being used. I now use the app to check the number of people there and like today I decided to give it a miss because it was very busy. I will be trying to attend very early in the mornings hopefully that’ll be better.

Positive experience: Nice atmosphere and plenty of equipment to use. Giving it 4 stars due to the state of the men's toilets on Sunday, however they'd been cleaned and cleared by Monday morning, so all in all, well maintained.

Positive experience: My regular gym. Nice atmosphere. Like any gym try to avoid busy periods otherwise it's a long wait for equipment. Only bug bear is that there are lots of classes that means the main studio is out of bounds often for stretching after work outs.

Positive experience: I was pleasantly surprised by the size of this gym. It's actually quite big. I love it that there are so many different rooms for different workouts. But definitely missing some of the basic essentials such as resistance bands and barbell foam pads. I think group exercises can do with instructors that actually do the exercises to motivate and push you! Rather than just walk around the room!

Positive experience: Decent PureGym. The staff here are really friendly and pretty much always say hello when you come in. Big free weights section downstairs and then cardio and machines upstairs. There’s also a CrossFit style area, a cycle studio and another big studio for classes.

Negative experience: I wish individual classes could be rated because honestly it is a joke. I am aware some instructors may be new and still learning but come on, it’s as if they’re making up the class and moves as they go! Pure gym has seriously gone downhill.

Fantastic experience: I ended my membership as I am moving away but had to leave a nice review. I had a great experience with this gym: clean, staff is friendly and classes are absolutely amazing even in comparison to gyms with more expensive memberships. Great sense of community, trainers make the effort to remember your name especially when you are a regular in their classes. Classes are always fun but intense at the same time. Big shoutout to Kamarl, Alfred, Marlon and Nathaniel - my favourite classes were usually led by them (they play some great music too!).

Positive experience: Staff friendly and helpful. Equipment could be cleaner especially the parts close to the ground. You can see grime marks which is unpleasant. Still few people don't clean after use, though majority do. Cleaning stations always fully stocked. Not used showers but ladies ones seems clean. Toilets always clean. Generally a nice atmosphere with a wide range of ages using the equipment.

Negative experience: Friendly Pure Gym staff and great online services. The gym is too small. Even if there is nothing that can be done regarding space, there should be some communication with the private PTs. PTs make their clients work out in the walkway. Sometimes there are even three PTs in one room the ONLY room free, with different clients, due to the other spaces being full with classes. I just want to work out and had to work out next to the bins due to there not being any space for normal gym-goers without a PT. Downstairs is full, the other rooms are full with classes (Which is fine), the walkway has someone's client throwing a BALL or doing burpees, nearly taking out my eye every time I want to go from point A and B, how is this allowed?! There are also food samples being offered by people, super good idea. In reality, I have never been offered a food sample, there is just a moody person on their mobile phone sitting next to food in two silver containers. Get some plastic sample cups and forks from Amazon, this is not a good look at all. Maybe I am just assuming these are samples, perhaps it is just someone sitting next to their lunch at the front desk 7 days a week?! I am so tired of this gym.

Fantastic experience: I have always considered this to be a fantastic gym and now with the new refurbishments it’s even better. The staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable regarding everything to do with fitness and nutrition. And unlike some other gyms that I have used they show a genuine interest in their customers. Negative experience: The staff are brilliant but online support is shambolic! Maybe due to covid maybe not.. Incorrect payment was taken (too much) twice and resolving it was just impossible when there was first a huge delay in getting back to me (2weeks) then I had different responses from different people with no real resolution. After being a member since it opened I eventually cancelled my membership as it was clear they were not going to resolve, refund or offer any consolation. Such a shame when the members and staff are generally lovely!

Positive experience: I especially like the variety of classes, although after the pandemic the classes that were 45 minutes went to 30 and after 9.30 there are no classes anymore, that's why I'm not so happy anymore, otherwise excellent.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with a recent refurbishment and upgraded equipment. Plenty of classes and overall great value. Have also been doing personal training with Mo Afifi for the last year which has been brilliant - he initially helped me recovery from a serious injury but it then moved to overall fitness and I have never been in better shape. Excellent gym and staff and highly recommended.

Negative experience: Really not a good gym. Very cramped, old equipment, it's dark, and smells with old socks. At peak there can be up to 140 people in this gym! Warmup/stretching zone tiny, fits 4-5 people at best. There is ONE bench press for the whole gym and it's always taken by groups of 4-5 people. But what I despise the most is the audience. No gym culture in regulars here, weights and plates always all over the place. No one's wiping the equipment after them, it's a mess. People humming so loud, dropping weights from 4 feet, some people here randomly dance or sing, it feels like an asylum! Not sure if always was like that or went downhill recently but I'm moving on elsewhere. Not a pleasant experience going here. This place made me hate going to a gym. Also, relatively expensive for what it is.
Positive experience: I think it is great for the price and considering there is not that many options around however I am just disappointed with the classes. Basically the staff run the classes (which is ok as it is cheap so I understand they are not having guests trainers) but most of the times the coaches do not even do the exercises with us which I find not really motivating. I have been on a spin class where the trainer did not once go on the bike. I went to a box fit session (which according to me is not BoxFit but more aerobic..) where the trainer just clapped in his hands saying "quick quick" but not doing any of the exercises himself... so I find it harder to be motivated if you cant be inspired by the trainer.. I also question some of the movements that we are being asked to do... like overly moving your shoulders while cycling is probably not the best for your back.
