Negative experience: Dirty. No cleaning products provided to wipe down gym equipment, the carpet tiles throughout ar worn and gross. I went yesterday for a class and the cleaner was sitting in the changing room watching videos really loudly on their phone (maybe they were on their break, but I didn't see them clean any equipment when I was there - does the gym equipment ever get cleaned and if so, when?)

We developed industry-leading cleaning and hygiene protocols, including the introduction of cleaning stations, to help keep our members and employees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the reduced risk and in line with the Government’s ending of legal restrictions, we have decided to remove self-cleaning stations in our gyms, which will also support our sustainability objectives by reducing our paper towel waste. We’re proud to say that many of the protocols implemented during lockdown, such as frequent and regular cleaning, and improvements to our air ventilation systems, will continue to be a core part of our TrainSafe Commitment. Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member at PureGym Birmingham City Centre for a while now, and I generally enjoy my time here. I prefer to come early in the morning when it’s quieter, which makes it easier to access the machines and equipment without the usual hustle and bustle you’d find during peak hours. During these busier times, getting on any of the machines can be a bit of a challenge. However, the affordability of the membership is a huge plus and makes it worthwhile. All in all, I don’t have many complaints.

Negative experience: I went on the Christmas break. No one was there and all members have to get in with their card and newcomers have to book one day pass but the application was down. No one to contact there even the emergency number. :')

Negative experience: Please turn on the heater, this gym is freezing this whole month. It is unbearable to stay in and give a chance for the body to warm up with exercise.
Hi Renata, thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We have recently made slight changes to this area, looking at improving energy efficiency. This is both to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. By law, we have a requirement to provide a certain amount of fresh air based on occupancy levels, and our ventilation system increases and decreases at different times throughout the day and night, making sure we meet these requirements and provide good air movement around the gyms. These levels are based on size of the gym, and occupancy levels, and are regularly monitored. All member feedback is reviewed, and brought to the attention of our Facilities team, who regularly review any changes we make to our gym facilities and all feedback is taken into account when making any future changes. Negative experience: I have been to many PureGyms. This one by far the lowest. Lots of machines need maintenance, couple of out of order machines that are irreplaceable. In terms of sorting weights and advising people to do so is bad. I'm disappointed with this branch. Also, I have noticed that this branch had old treadmills compared to Leamington Branch for example. It is not fair.

Regular maintenance checks are undertaken, and any issues identified are escalated to engineers straight away. Sometimes, there may be a small wait whilst engineers attend to fix any issues, but we endeavour to resolve these as soon as possible. Positive experience: Can be very busy at times it's hard to find a free machine

Negative experience: registered online and paid the fee, but I did not receive my pin, so I went to the gym in person to access the facility. Unfortunately, I waited at the entrance for almost 50 minutes with no assistance. I rang the bell several times, but no one responded. This was a very disappointing experience, and it felt like a significant waste of time. While the payment was processed without issue, the level of service I received did not meet my expectations! Never ever got this experience!

Positive experience: I'm a gym user and enjoy visiting, other gym users are friendly ,mens changing room had a bad odour could be from the lockers, I suspect that people keep stuff in there for long periods while they aren't in the gym.

Negative experience: This gym's prime location is its only selling point. The facilities are seriously lacking, with a shortage of essential equipment that makes workouts frustrating. For instance, they only have one set of 14kg dumbbells, which is almost always in use, leaving members waiting around or unable to complete their routines. With the number of registered members, it's ridiculous that they haven't invested in more equipment. I highly recommend avoiding a membership here—it's just not worth the hassle.

Negative experience: I recently tried this gym and, unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. Many members were very selfish with the facilities, monopolizing equipment well beyond reasonable usage times. This made it difficult for others, including myself, to complete our workouts efficiently. As an athlete with 14 years of gym experience, I found this especially frustrating since my body would cool down between exercises, impacting my performance. I do not recommend this gym for professionals or serious athletes.

Fantastic experience: Great service, Good place
Positive experience: Not quite up to par with other pure gyms I use. Pluses - friendly inclusive environment, lots of kit, big open space. Improvements - too few lower weight plates (hard to incrementally increase, always tons of 15s available). Poor gym etiquette of some users leaving weights around (hard to police but if they’re replaced and put in the right position by staff people get the message). Too many broken lockers. Personal preference but I don’t like the new lay out, replacing squat rack with a smith machine and removing seated leg curl but keeping less effective lying one.

Positive experience: Good Gym i liked that it has 2 floors cardio and downstairs Arm curls, tricep dips extensions etc. The studio wow it was amazing i like how it is so Spacious where members can do workout or more room to stretch.

Negative experience: Been a member to this gym for over 5 years and a pure gym account holder for 10 years. The recent machine changes has removed the small amount of variety of machine the gym had without replacing making it harder to navigate the gym. Really disappointing, I’m ending my membership and moving to Nuffield gym

Negative experience: Parking has improved but the equipment are too old and at times broken. The number of gyms you can attend with membership has reduced and in some cases too far for it to be useful.

Negative experience: It's not Gym. It's Rubbish station! I don't understand that people paying for what? You can't even one good lock for put your stuff in. The lights flicking and blinking then blind your eyes! Doesn't look like hall Gym big hall and not full of items even it's not couple weeks I am coming but today I cancelled my membership

Positive experience: Nice and quiet on a Friday morning. No paper to clean your machine though, so I was glad I was there early and it was unlikely many if any had used the machines I used. I didn't enjoy leaving it without wiping it down with antibac.

Positive experience: Huge gym, but shame that some of the equipment is broken and very old and worn. Lights are flickering which I think is quite bad for anyone who would get triggered for epilepsy. It’s a Puregym and has everything else you would expect.

Positive experience: Has the usual gym facilities the men's changing room is down several flights of stairs so before you change you've already done a leg work out, several showers do not have hot water, given we are in winter makes this unacceptable. I have emailed the company several times and I've never received a response. Lockers are all broken and the ones that are not are reserved with padlocks by users that are not present at the gym. I cancelled my membership because of these issues

Negative experience: I been a member for 3 months and my experience so far has been disappointed, old machines, no enough equipment, showers not working or not working properly (as hot water and water pressure) and all equipment not in place (dumbbells not in the correct place or in the floor, disk weight not enough and in the floor too). The place as well smells weird, there is not enough light looks like we are in the club and almost all the big lockers are broken. Before I was a member of the gym group that is in front and is much better, hopefully this feedback it will be read for someone that really care and fix the issues. It’s hard to get feedback and is annoying to see the response to others reviews saying “Thanks for you feedback” and not fixing nothing.

Negative experience: Terrible Place. Flickering lights. Roof periodically caved in in studio, massive leaks elsewhere. Many machines are broken and unsafe. Management are beyond useless.

Negative experience: Worst experience I have been using gym from 2-3 days but the cables are broken treadmills are not working management don’t care @Puregym team please don’t just do marketing things for your gyms but also try to make them better as we are bot doing gym for free we are paying and we are expecting to get good experience.

Positive experience: Average gym. Weird men staring at you through the windows - take some of the cardio machines at the back if you can. Clean and good availability of equipment. However, the management are slow with maintenance. The studio had a leak and so all classes were cancelled for 2 months - very annoying. No compensation offered..

Negative experience: I've been with this gym for two and a half years, and there haven't been significant changes. The only noticeable difference was some minor improvements after Christmas, like paint and construction. Unfortunately, they lack essential equipment such as an incline bench barbell, decline press barbell, and a T-bar machine. Many people, including myself, have been expressing concerns about this for the past two years. It's surprising that a reputed brand like Pure Gym in the UK doesn't address these issues. I hope this feedback brings about some positive changes.

Positive experience: Too few weights available, forcing you to use whatever is there. This disrupts your workout. During Peak times, it’s very difficult to find a cardio machine. 3 weeks in, and it’s getting really infuriating not being able to find the right weights. Saturday late morning, half of them were missing from the rack and nowhere to be found. First of all, some people seem inconsiderate and don’t bother putting weights back, and despite repeated complaints as you can see in other reviews, there seems to be no action on this!

Positive experience: The gym is well equipped and theres usually enough equipment to not be waiting ages. Except for the few people who use machines as a spot to start their life admin. The cleaning could be better. The rise of the influencer has seen more camera tripods up. I’d give it 5 stars if you could ban them. Trainers are a tad stand offish (no im not asking for free advice). Aron Smith is really good. I’ve used him before. He’s also just generally friendly and helpful. An asset to the gym. Scott.W isnt good. Literally watched him train a woman last week. Terrible form. Was wincing as her knees locked inwards and thought she was about to injure herself. Scott wasnt even watching. In fact he was yawning. Generally good but when equipment is down it takes far too long to fix.

Negative experience: I’m so sorry but idk what the the reviews are on about. This gym is clean Because the cleaners do a good job but the rest is absolute ridiculous. It’s a mess and most of the wires on equipment is broken… a bunch of pins and clips missing. You have to do a whole treasure hunt before you find what you need.

Negative experience: Been to this gym for 2 years now . It’s time to let a 1 star review. Always it’s something broke in the gym and always takes them a month to fix them . 30% of the times I had cold showers and that’s a huge problem . More of that the gym is always dirty , toilets and changing rooms always dirty . I think they clean it just once per week . Let’s not talk about the gains that are everywhere. And you loose 30 minutes more per session to find the gains that you need .

Negative experience: Probably the worst of the Pure Gym's in Birmingham, You can't even use a treadmill when it's mildly busy because most of the time there's problem with their equipment. And if you're doing weights.. Good Luck finding a bench in the weight area. The irony is I started training here a few years back and re-joined recently.. nothing has changed! At Least the Gym group had a revamp a few years back but this pure Gym is still sleeping in the past.

Negative experience: I would rather throw an egg in the air and head but it as it came down while taking a 10 foot bar pole up my bum with beans covered all over me than step foot in that gym ever again
Fantastic experience: My regular and only gym. Very clean and spacious. Unfortunately studios closed for a long time some areas cordoned off. No idea when those areas will reopen. Just been told I can use another branch till October 31st. Overall nice place all equipment good standard.

Negative experience: I visited PureGym Birmingham during my trip to the city, and I have to say it was a disappointing experience. The atmosphere in this branch was quite unpleasant, with disrespectful users, abandoned equipment (even a pile of weights in a corner), and bottles scattered everywhere. Additionally, a significant number of lockers were broken. Despite these challenges, we managed to complete our workout. However, if our local PureGym resembled this one, we would seriously consider switching to a competitor. It was difficult to take pictures without exposing users and preserve their privacy , but attached are a few pictures as a small example of what we found (there was way more)

Positive experience: It is okay but feels like "the bare minimum" in terms of free weights. Yes there are 4 power rack type things but only 1 has a platform. Yes there are weight plates but you can never find the ones you need easily (2.5kg, 5kg, 10kg can feel like hens teeth and the few there are are left all over). There are barbells but no spares, so if the gym is busy you may be stuck with a power or training bar when you want an oly bar. There are power racks but the safety rails are missing. There are paper towels to wipe equipment but the spray bottles are empty. There are loads of dumbbells, but only one pair of commonly used ones like 12, 14, 16 kg. It just feels a bit neglected like nobody cares about the free weights area. You can get a good workout, but it feels despite the environment not because of it. People leave their weights all over and don't wipe up after themselves for the most part.

Negative experience: The place is flooding (recent pic 10/09/23) and not one manager in sight to sort out. As a member I've had to put a bin under the leaking roof because there's no one around to do anything else. It's the age old saying. "Ain't a pure gym without a leaky roof"

Positive experience: Recently moved to Birmingham. Visited for the first time yesterday after a few years away from this particular brand of gym. Undeniably you get what you pay for, I was a member at a more high tech gym with much better equipment however as stated I have spoilt myself in that sense. This gym is the most local to me so I will just have to get use to the less advanced equipment however still worked up a good sweat and enjoyed my workout. I will give it some time and maybe update my review.

Positive experience: The actual gym is ok but there are some issues which make working out there a genuine annoyance. The men's changing room has a lot of broken lockers, I'm talking about most of the lockers in the men's changing room have broken locks, or some even having missing handles which either means spending 5-10 minutes finding a functioning locker, or placing your belongings in a broken one and hoping people will be kind enough to not steal your stuff. It also feels like a lack of staff on-site which usually wouldn't be a concern but the second problem I find is that because people have a tendency to not put weights back when they are done, finding the free weight you need can sometimes be similar to going on a scavenger hunt. Having staff around to find and put back these weights would make the workout experience much easier. Apart from that, the gym is clean, easy to get to with its central location and on top of that, because it is a PureGym, it's also not very expensive as memberships go.

We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on parts/engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. If you have any concerns about equipment, please notify staff on site as soon as you can. It is in the gym rules that members should return their own weights or risk suspension, but at peak times especially it can be hard to police this. However, staff on site do everything they can while we also have CCTV monitoring the free weights and are looking for new ways to combat this. Fantastic experience: Gym opens 24 hours but the changing rooms colse during 12am-5am. It is really inconvenient for people who visit gym at 11pm and forget this rule! When I left my backpack in changing room I have to wait until the room opens again. The changing room should open 24 hours! ——————————————————————— This gym has changed their policy. Now everyone can access the change room between 11pm to 5am by inputting their pin. So I changed my rate from 1 star to 5 star.

Negative experience: I joined for the London one as I'm between both cities. City centre branch needs to crack on with renovations; roofs aren't meant to remain unsafe. Also, it is extremely oversubscribed, so why are there not enough equipment? 1) no calisthenics/gymnastics area that is built for purpose. 2) very dim lighting downstairs; if there is no natural light then invest in making it so. 3) only 3 cable fly machines; definitely inadequate. Often people wait in excess of 10 minutes. Today I was harrassed by no less than 4 people asking me how many sets I have. I just want to work out in peace. And for the record I do ultrasets. 4) 1 toilet; seriously, why am I paying so much for a gym with one actual toilet seat. 5) changing rooms stink! All the time! 6) there needs to be another 2 squat racks. 7) personal trainers are not approachable. I don't feel they represent a fitness industry if they don't have charisma or a positive attitude. I'm sorry, but I expect to be spoken to as if my concerns are the most important at that time and I just didn't feel that. However 1) I feel the atmosphere is definitely more high class than other gyms I go to 2) adequate free weights; I have always found the correct dumbell I need. 3) I like the 2 floors. 4) amazing assisted facilities I will still continue to come to the city centre branch as I feel more at home there. But please, this constructive critisizm needs to be actioned.

Fantastic experience: Given five stars as it was great to see the manager get his hands dirty keeping the gym in a clean condition. Music choice was great and not too loud. Only thing I could say is please cancel the classes if its not on or no one turns up. I turned up to a class to find no one there. Other than that it's a great gym for the price you pay monthly
Fantastic experience: Decent gym nice and clean. If your a premium member you get free sports water avaliable every 20 minutes. There are many free classes avaliable to take. And personal trainers are avaliable aswell at a cost. There's showers aswell for after your work out so you don't have to wait to get home to have one.

Negative experience: This gym is unsafe. The treadmills are wobbly and cant be used for running. Machines are constantly out of order. Some of the down stairs area can't be used and is not getting fixed. The temperature is way too high and the gym constantly smells like sweat and damp. There is no way that this place will pass a health and safety check.

Positive experience: PureGym needs improving. Lockers are always broke. Showers not cold enough. Some times equipment are broke. Vending Machine not cold enough. Changing room needs improving. PureGyms where the lockers are in the Gym room aren't vandalised.

Positive experience: Good, easily accessible gym. Sad that people don't respect the place - weights completely unorganised, all over the place. Hardly anyone cleans after themselves. Other than that, can't really complain. Lots of machines, space. Wish there was more room for deadlifts, but other than that - all good.

Positive experience: Large gym with a lot of equipment although the downstairs area has no windows, is currently being fixed up and was a bit intimidating. I tried to go to some classes here but most of them weren't running - the staff didn't know one class I turned up to had been put on the timetable. For Cycle I had to chase the instructor down 5 minutes after it was due to start, he said no-one had booked on (I had weeks ago!) and then because there were *only* three of us the 45 minute class was only 15 minutes! I gave up booking classes there in the end. Most of the staff are lovely though - Charlotte and Jimmy were both great and offered me really useful 1 to 1 sessions when Pump wasn't running. I think they just need to sort out their timetable and only offer classes that they can/want to provide!

Negative experience: Gym would be alright if it wasn't for the personal trainers. They never put their weights away and either hog multiple bits of equipment or kick you off some because "they have a class". There are literally signs everywhere saying to put your weights back. Maybe the staff should set an example. Equipment is always broken and it's usually something so easy to fix. Buying more clips for the cables is such an easy fix but they have been missing multiple for months. Go to a different gym

Fantastic experience: Large space, lots of machines, and open 24h. Everything you could want from a basic gym (as long as you don't mind the lack of amenities you get at pricier gyms).

Negative experience: Probably one of the worst pure gyms I'm bham. Broken equipment, rude staff. Noone cleans anything, equpiments is always missing. Half the weights are upstairs half downstairs. Who manages this place? It's a joke and a complete rip off. Go to Bentley Bridge and learn how to clean and look after and manage a gym!

Negative experience: Looks, sounds and feels like a prison. No music, dirty, broken equipment everywhere, damaged walls, so dimly lit... such a terrible gym feel which is a shame because the staff seem lovely... You can tell this was once a sleezy nightclub....

Negative experience: Considering this gym is in central Birmingham you would think it would be a signature gym. Far from it this branch is run down machines are old and chest press machine has been out of order for months. Can’t fault the staff they are amazing but seriously management you need to up your game considering your competition.

Negative experience: Awful gym. Equipment is broken and all the weights are not where they shouls be. Very loud music from the classes. Machines are all over the place without an order. Weights are missing. The athmosphere is not welcoming for women at all.

Negative experience: I’ve been to a few PureGyms in the last 6/7 years around the U.K. and they’ve all been 5 starts however I must say, this one in Birmingham Central is the worst. There are so many treadmills, bikes etc but hardly anyone uses them, almost always empty but something like a single Chess Press Machine no where to be found?! Cable machine additional equipment are all over the place, tons of plates scattered but never in the right place. The lights keep flickering (so cheap). I kept having almost to no signal, could be just me but keep that in mind. Machine fly is kind of broken (left handle loose), very unstable and unusable. Not sure how long this has been broken for but not fixed. Few other machines look to be out of use. Locker rooms are nice and clean with what looks to be decent showers but wish there was a mirror in the changing rooms. If you’re beginner, you’ll enjoy it but if you’re more experienced for such price you can find a better gym with more equipment for the same price and some natural light.. I wouldn’t recommend. Ps: the main equipment room is underground with no natural light. As a man I love a man cave vibes but this just isn’t it.

Negative experience: It’s ok during quiet times I guess, but honestly this gym needs a huge overhaul. I’m not aware of any lifts (I could be wrong) so disabled access is non existent plus the long winding stairs to the basement functional level can be precarious if you’re recovering from an injury. The cardio area is kept clean for the most part but it’s lacking in free weights and resistance equipment. The basement level can feel very unwelcoming for women plus the lack of cleanlinesses and poor machinery is off-putting. The lighting needs to be improved as its very harsh in places and gloomy in others. In terms of classes, my sister and I have been to a couple and they’re generally quite good depending on who’s teaching. Aron is a wonderful pt and makes anyone feel welcome in class. My sister had an unpleasant experience with one pt called Mike during a class who was very condescending towards her and unfortunately she doesn’t attend classes/this location anymore. This gym has a very unfriendly boys club atmosphere, from the staff/PTs to the gym goers. Unless they are serious about upgrading the location and hiring better PTs I suggest going to a better calibre of gym.

Negative experience: This is the scruffiest, most untidy gym I've ever trained in. Weights, bars and dumbbells just left all over the place with staff making absolutely no effort to clear anything away or ask users to put things back after using them. Equipment was tatty, including a dodgy bench press set up with a 1.25kg plate wedged under one leg to presumably stop it wobbling. The reason for giving it any stars at all was that the selection of equipment looked pretty decent, assuming you actually manage to locate what you want to use, and there was a good amount of space around the benches. Oh, and the members I came across while I was there seemed quite friendly, so there's that...

Negative experience: - missing equipment does not get replaced - not enough dumbbells proportionate to the amount of benches (10 I think) so during peak time you’ll get one or two different weights - benches in poor condition - mens toilets/changing room in terrible condition - a quarter of the ground floor has been closed off for over a year - this has lead to general over crowding for ground floor space and equipment - flavoured drinks machine is often running out of flavours - no ac - generally old and dates equipment - no one has any respect for the gym as a whole due it’s condition, as a a result of this equipment is scattered everywhere - e.g. The rubber grip for a handle attachment that has started to peel off or come off completely will not be replaced. Kind of sums up the management. - Requires serious investment. - Terrible sound system across the gym floors. Something you notice when moving to a proper gym. Nothing will change until the gym gets signed off for major funding. The Gym across the road on Broad Street is better in every feasible way plus it comes with parking. Thanks

Negative experience: Absolute disregard towards personal space from some of the PTs. They are happy to bring their clients in my working area without even asking if that’s be ok. Equipment is never in the right place either. Music for some classes (mostly the morning ones) is obnoxiously loud and even with noise cancellation headphones u can hear it.

Negative experience: 1-Because the devices are limited, old, not varied, and not modern, like other gyms. 2-The bathrooms are dirty and smell bad, small and old, not modern!! Pure Gym in Saudi Arabia is much better, clean and large, with a modern design, and various modern equipment. Why is there the difference between that??

Positive experience: Cracking gym. The services and amenities are wonderful for the value. My main gripe is that the free weights and racks are downstairs; I've seen some people wobbling up the 40ish stairs after working legs.

Positive experience: Pros: - cheap - open 24/7 Cons: - toilets are not well maintained - they constantly smell - toilets are clogged many many times - toilet taps are constantly running - distribution of weights is not ideal ( for example, there aren’t many 5/10kg weights, while there are lots of 15/20/25 kg)

Positive experience: The gym is good and everything but it is mismanaged and unorganised for some reason

Positive experience: I only come here because it’s round the corner from my flat so it’s super convenient. Machine and equipment wise amazing everything you need however the gym STINKS of men I know it’s a gym but I’ve been to others that smell fresh - as soon as you walk in the smell just hits you another thing is one of the members of staff (tall Asian guy) is super creepy, always staring and lingers around it’s just super uncomfortable. One time I saw him literally peaking under the blind in the office window honestly so weird.

Negative experience: Dirty, unpleasant smell throughout the whole gym but especially in the changing rooms. Multiple machines are out of order because of damage for more than a month. 80% of the lockers don't have a working mechanism so they stay open . No toilet paper for more than a week . The list goes on .

Positive experience: So far so good, a good variety of classes, instructors are friendly and great atmosphere. Haven't used shower facilities as yet but on the whole a good no nonsense gym

Fantastic experience: Great range of equipment. It’s a two floor gym with a studio. There are loads of free weights and mats for you to do your own thing and it doesn’t get too busy.

Positive experience: This Pure Gym location is very close to city center. First floor has all cardio equipment and ground floor has all free weights and machines. Gym is usually kept tidy and clean. Usually 5-8pm are peak hours. Not enough bench and squat racks is the main issue of this branch. same goes for workout bench number as they are always occupied. The only way to get around this issue is to workout on odd hours or off-peak which is not possible for majority of gym goers. The group classes are great and gym has a big studio so plenty members can participate.

Positive experience: I liked a lot the calisthenics area they have, though not completely ideal. Its open 24h, which is super helpfull for busy people :)

Fantastic experience: Pure gym gives a lot for the price, equipments are very well preserved, even more than the major premium gyms of the city that charge 3x more. Also available flavoured drink dispensers. Very clean place
