Nuffield Health Glasgow Minerva Fitness & Wellbeing Gym: Opinions
Negative experience: I will say this, I was there today with my family and I do not recommend it!!! It stinks and is very, very dirty, the pool has not been cleaned for years, a rusty wheelchair, and the worst was the service, I was laughed at, pointed at after my partner asked about the state of cleanliness because his hands were dirty when he leaned back and the lady who was on shift was very rude, she spoke to us as if she was the Queen of the world, and we were nothing despite the fact that I pay a monthly subscription, I was treated like an intruder, the worst thing was that I was with children who in this situation asked us to leave this place. !! There is a need for cleanliness and quality control, and such employees who think that they can do anything there should be fired immediately!!!
Negative experience: The mens showers are in an unsafe condition
Negative experience: Old out of date equipment, broken tiles on the floor in the showers, most of the showers don't work, jacuzzis no longer in use in other Glasgow club in Finnieston either
Negative experience: Closed at 730 pm just because it's between Xmas and New year without bothering to notify customers. Absolutely shocking!!
Negative experience: I bought some wowcher passes and used 2 out of 5 as I'm just not keen on the gym at all. It has a carpet on gym floor? Is massive but quite poorly laid out meaning you make eye contact with other people regardless of where you stand and have to walk up and down the stairs too much to get a coherent workout. Took me about 30 mins extra each time just walking around confused at the nonsensical layout. Equipment is a mish mash of old and new, different styles and brands, meaning it's hard to actually gather eg a bar and free weights to squat. The rack is under a low ceiling, meaning if you overhead or miliary press you'll hit the ceiling. Similarly there's low ceiling at the dumbells and bench area meaning you again hit the ceiling if you do anything overhead. There's a kind of grainy feeling on the equipment. Depressive vibes. I just can't figure this gym space out, meaning I can't get a good workout. Defo wouldn't take a membership, and regret even the wowcher.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, plenty of equipment options
Negative experience: Recently joined and have mixed feelings so far. I like that there is lots of gym equipment, lots of cardio machines, good classes and the gym has a sauna. But the major downfall for me is the general cleanliness of the showers and swimming pool. The showers have a strong smell of damp, half of the showers don't work and there is black mould growing on the ceiling. The swimming pool has dirt/sand at the bottom of it. Overall, I think this gym is good for the gym equipment, altho more seats in the weight lifting area would be good. However, the showers are a major downside, I have attached a photo of the mould on the ceiling for reference.
Fantastic experience: Helpful and lovely staff.
Positive experience: Nice and spacious, spread over 3 levels, different machines, showers wasn't up to par
Negative experience: Great setting for the gym, super friendly staff… but machines are broken, mens showers are falling part
Negative experience: This used to be nice. But it is now in complete disrepair. The kids pool has been closed for FOUR YEARS. One of the shower cubicles out of action for three years, the shower flooring (as mentioned in reviews SIX YEARS AGO is completely falling apart. When you walk on it dirty water from previous users splashes up. It is completely uneven and difficult to walk on. It feels like this facility will soon be unlocked down for more housing development and it shows, as zero money has been spent here in the last four years. The tiles in the changing room are being held to the wall with parcel tape!
Negative experience: Was here as a visiting member (Edinburgh) and I’ve got to say I was disappointed. Very dated changing rooms and there was a nasty smell just lingering everywhere. The sauna was broken so that was disappointing (maybe just my luck or maybe it happens often, don’t know). Pool is excellent, no complaints there. Steam room is small and just not very nice - half the size of what I would expect and seems like an after thought. Gym is ok but probably needs a refresh (a running theme with Nuffield). If the sauna had been open and good I might have gone to 3 stars.
Fantastic experience: Yes I enjoy going feel comfortable and enjoy swimming so relax and peaceful which I love x
Negative experience: Conclusion of a trial visit: Dirty facilities, dated equipment, and similarly furnishings in disrepair. Nice staff and the sauna is the only saving grace. Significant rejuvenation and investment required for this facility to fulfil its potential and justify the subscription. Suspect the staff know this, but Nuffield Health also knows they have a captive West End customer base who will make do. Alongside the funding problems of Glasgow Life facilities and lacking investment in other gyms, wellbeing resources in Glasgow need improvement.
Fantastic experience: 1 of the greatest gym, highly recommend it ;-)
Fantastic experience: 5star staff - always welcoming and friendly.
Positive experience: Good weights and pool, sauna, steam room. Very dated cardio equipment for the membership price.
Fantastic experience: Visited the Nuffield health Minerva gym and pool today with my family and it was fantastic. The classes were truly good (thanks Abby for two great workouts) and the gym staff super friendly and knowledgeable. Kids had a super time at the pool. We will return.
Negative experience: The staff are nice, but the place is falling into disrepair. The equipment is old and much of it out of order for months. The condition of the changing rooms is embarrassing. Premium prices but poor quality: I gave up my membership after two years and wouldn't recommend it.
Negative experience: I was a member here about 7 years ago and I felt it could be doing with some new equipment because it was starting to get dated. I rejoined recently and it’s the same equipment and nothing has changed. The gym is like something from 1999, about 1/5th of the equipment has an out of order sign. There are no towels provided for the leisure facility either. I’d have given 1 star if it wasn’t for the cleanliness
Negative experience: £60 a month to be Kicked out gym 15 mins before it’s advertised to close and all the staff are out of shape and half the equipment broken for months with no sign of it getting fixed
Negative experience: Falling into ruin. This used to be a great gym, but after years of neglect and underinvestment, it's falling to bits. Where to begin? How about the perpetually broken machines (the cross-trainer on the upper mezzanine has been out of use for nearly THREE YEARS)? What about the DISGUSTING showers that smell of p*ss and worse (not to mention the loose tiles, mould, and the shower which has been out of order for months)? Perhaps the grafitti in the sauna? The lockers where half are missing the hooks? Then we have the persistent rules being broken by the "members" - management are well aware of the issues with those who park in the disabled and parent/child spaces who shouldn't be, but do nothing (everyone knows who these guys are, but nothing is said). Shaving in the sauna, spitting on the floor in the shower walk area. Too few staff on site, and none willing to all the behaviour out. This place will likely close down in 18 months. A shame, but probably for the best.
Negative experience: Easily the worst gym in Glasgow massively overpriced half the machines are broke and equipment that does work is awful
Fantastic experience: Family friendly gym with swimming pool. Good health suite and all the equipment you need.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, well equipped gym. Good size pool and decent sauna/steam room too.
Negative experience: very disappointed from this gym, not a Virgin standard as use to be. shower floor always dirty and smelly. 2 showers broken, kids swimming pool closed, poor lighting, customer service with zero customer service. very expensive for what they offer.
Positive experience: The gym is excellent. Huge complex with different sections with different facilities depending on fitness or health goals. Pool is rather cold, as pools go. The cafe snacks are good, healthy and hearty, but the Costa coffee is appalling (and I mean baaad) - unsure how it can be that bad considering it’s meant to be a Costa. I know it sounds petty but I like a coffee before a workout or to chill in the cafe afterwards. Cafe staff are lovely though.
Negative experience: This gym will soon be demolished and turned into flats, so don't take out an annual membership!
Negative experience: Patrons park in parent and child and disabled spaces freely with no consequence. Shower rooms are old and grubby, need a refurb. The wooden seats which you sit on in changing rooms are warped and needed replaced pre covid. Baby pool has been closed for what feels an age. Gym equipment is also ageing. For what you pay per month, I think a refit it essential to keep new and retain current members.
Dear Leon, thank you for taking the time to provide this critical feedback. We are currently looking at alternative uses for our Baby pool and once finalised, will be sharing this with members. We've noted your other feedback and will take action, where appropriate. There are no current plans for new equipment, should this change we will also make the membership aware too. In the meantime, thank you again for taking the time to provide this feedback. With regards, the Glasgow West End Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: I went to this club with my 7 years old child. They advertised this gym as family friendly one. Nevertheless, to my surprise, there is no family changing room. When we inquired about it, the management told us that we can either use disable toilets or my 7 years old can take shower with me in adult changing rooms, as they don't have family changing room. There is no signage for common curtesy in adult changing rooms and some people were walking totally nude that I have found it disrespectful. Our intention was to join as family. Regrettably, it will not happen. Just to make a comparison, films have age restriction, sport activities have age restrictions, ... why a so called family friendly gym (that isn't cheap) don't have family changing rooms. They certainly have space to accommodate it. Staff are polite and friendly and I understand that this is not within their power. I wouldn't recommend it to any family with younger children.
Dear Reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. Unfortunately, due to the design of the building, we are limited with what we can provide with regards to mixed changing rooms. We have noted your concerns with our properties team and will look to see if we can change the set-up of the changing rooms, in the future. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your club visit, as a result of this and would like to thank you, once again, for taking the time to provide this feedback. With regards, The Glasgow West End Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: What not to like about the Gym and pool, especially the group classes
Dear Raji, thank you very much for the lovely review and rating, it is much appreciated. With regards, the Glasgow West End Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Nuffield gym with since they took over from virgin active. I have always found the staff to be polite and helpful. But since I had my stroke last August I feel the staff have raised the game. Firstly Jamie froze my account until I was able to return in December where he and other managers check on my progress. When I arrive on a daily basis the reception staff are very willing to open the doors for me always greeting me with a welcome. The personal trainers have always encouraged me to use the correct equipment on the gym floor and constantly give me thumbs up when I am training. The Hygiene team are all friendly the gents and the ladies are asking how I am doing and encouraging me to do my exercises. The poolside staff also assist me with putting on my exercise floatation rings and are all willing and helpful. My progress is slow but I am getting there I have no doubt that this is partly to do with my perseverance but also the staff at Nuffield Glasgow West End a big part of my recovery too. Regards Graeme
Dear Graeme, Thank you for this lovely review and feedback, we really appreciate you taking the time here to thank the team for the support they have provided. Equally we would like to thank you for your continued support of our club over the years, it really is much appreciated. With regards, The Glasgow West End Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Positive experience: Really helpful staff at front desk and easy joining process. The major thing that lets it down is the old equipment! The alternate gyms in Glasgow (of which there are many, at a much cheaper price) have modern well maintained machines and free weight areas. Nuffield really needs to spend some money on upgrading the place and giving more of the same equipment as iv found myself waiting for areas to become free.
Negative experience: No jacuzzi , kids pool has been broke for over a year.
Dear Peter, thank you for this feedback and rating. We would like to apologise for the issues you have experienced at the club. The baby pool will remain closed, however we will continue to operate the two remaining pools. We are reviewing what to do with the baby pool area for members and once plans are finalised, we'll let members know. With regards, the Glasgow West End Fitness And Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: Friendly, helpful and approachable staff! Feel really comfortable at this gym!
Fantastic experience: Love this place.
Good afternoon Sanjeev, thank-you for your recent review. As always, we really appreciate member feedback and are grateful for your 5 star rating! We hope to see you back in our gym again soon. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow West End Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Fantastic experience: Only use the pool, best service team I’ve experienced at a gym. Had a billing issue from another gym and the GM (Jaimi) solved it in a few hours. Covid regs in place.
Negative experience: Gym machines are often broken and extremely out dated. New equipment (if any) are apparently selected and purchased by people who have no knowledge of sports and the latest equipment available. Some of the more useful equipment have been taken away and replaced by useless pieces of kit which are seldom used. Complaints and suggestions are taken with a smile, but with no results whatsoever. I only remain a member for the convenience of its location.
Negative experience: Very poor weight lifting equipment for the cost of membership. Pure gym or exercise for less- much much cheaper and much better facilities. Weights are left discarded all over the place!!! Staff do nothing!
Positive experience: Nice big gym but the machines are badly needing upgraded to better ones and the layout also needs sorting
Fantastic experience: Cant fault this place of its staff brilliant.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, good timetable and pool and easy to park
Positive experience: I like the atmosphere in here , staff and facility are really nice . The showers however are old and not very well maintained .
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Lovely big pool and nice staff
Fantastic experience: Love the staff as they are very helpful and friendly. Lots of gym equipment and other facilities! Perfect for working out or swim.
Fantastic experience: Top gym
Fantastic experience: Pretty good family environment
Fantastic experience: Great
Negative experience: Dryer doesn’t work, steam room very smelly, staff friendly but the quality of gym decreased very much, cross trainer need maintenance. Not worthy the price
Positive experience: Really good .everything under one roof .
Positive experience: Great space to train, a shame the climbing wall has been off limits for 3 month and counting
Fantastic experience: I love Nuffield. This is a great gym! The trainers here are amazing
Positive experience: Good gym setup, great kids pools friendly staff. Equipment is a bit dated
Negative experience: They have a cafeteria that used to open until 8 pm they cut that back until 6pm that’s fair enough if there not busy I went to order food there and they said they stop serving hot food at 5pm it was 4.53 when I ordered I was only wanting a toasty what’s the point of opening till 6 with no hot food after 5 she said she had turned of the machine and they wondered why it’s not busy the cafe really is a waste of space in that corner over priced and over rated some one from management really does have to look at it there is no way it’s making money Like the rest of the gym no staff and no clue
Fantastic experience: Great gym! Lovely pool. Porridge, yummmm! Feel relaxed.
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Bit expensive but worth it
Positive experience: God gym
Positive experience: Very convenient for work and nice staff
Positive experience: Very large branch of the Nuffield Health gym chain. Above average gym facilities for a Nuffield Health - equipment is older than most other sites but there are more duplicates due to floor space so next to no queuing for equipment. No laundered towels on premises which is poor for visitors with Wellbeing memberships.
Positive experience: good quality gym
Positive experience: Good but expensive
Thank you John for taking the time to post your 4* rating. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow Westend Fitness & Wellbeing Gym
Negative experience: The facilities is fine, the fitness trainers are helpful. But booking a swimming lesson was a pain, the reception don't want to help at all. I have been emailing the swimming mangers for a week just to book the appointment with the instructor.. they made it very very difficult . They take my number and never call me. . I felt like they are doing thier services for free, no customer service at all. They m
Good Afternoon. We're sorry to hear this and if we can help with following this up please email us at [email protected]. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow Westend Fitness & Wellbeing Gym
Fantastic experience: Great Gym!
Thank you Bea for the great 5* review, we really appreciate it. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow Westend Fitness & Wellbeing Gym
Negative experience: Nice pool, but no towels and padlocks available. Which isn't really acceptable for the price.
Thank you Theresa for your rating and review, your comments have been taken on board. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow Westend Fitness & Wellbeing Gym
Fantastic experience: The most relaxing place! I'm loving it.
Thank you for your 5* review. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow Westend Fitness & Wellbeing Gym
Positive experience: Loved this gym but I was not getting any help with my son who has cerebral palsy. I'd been asking for a changing table and hoist for the pool for over 8 years,we were paying over £100 each month because we were having to pay for 2 adults and 3 kids separately because they don't do a family membership. 6 different managers and even changeover to Nuffield made no difference. The changing room has no disabled changing facilities or showers. The disabled toilets are not big enough to be used by anyone in a wheelchair ♿.The cleaners are overworked. The showers in the ladies changing rooms are often dirty, glass doors are always dirty with soap suds and the floors were not washed every day. There is a mirrored area with hair dryer which is free. 2 private cubicles are available but are quite small. The spinner was often broken. The swimming pool is great. The wee pool is a nice temperature and depth and the babies pool is decent. The staff are very friendly. the cafe staff really keep the cafe clean and the counter is well stocked. Cafe also has a good variety of food . The beauty salon offers lots of treatments, no hairdresser. Personal trainers were good but expensive.the gym floor is good. Lots of equipment and plenty of room, variety of classes at different times, there's also a lot of different training equipment like big tyres, vper tubes, balls, heavy ropes, different weight benches for every body area. Medicine balls and kettle bells in different weights. We go to council swimming and gym ⛹ now which has amazing CHANGING PLACES shower and changing room.
Thank you for your feedback, Caroline. I'm sorry to hear of the issues you have, and rest assured I will pass your comments on to our Operations team. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow Westend Fitness & Wellbeing Gym
Positive experience: The gym facilities and pool is very good but the parking can be nightmare, they just can't get it right. The showers have needed a good cleaning since Virgin had it and lastly, some of the members seem to think it is a good idea to hog a locker and keep it locked whether they are in the gym or not.
Good afternoon Ian. Thank you for your recent review. We appreciate all feedback, both positive and negative and take on board your comments for improvement. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow West End Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Positive experience: Nice place
Good Morning Gurinder - thank you for leaving us a rating. We appreciate the feedback and are pleased that you are enjoying your gym membership. Kind regards Nuffield Health Glasgow West End Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Positive experience: Great gym, but the one in Finnieston Street is so much better and newly renovated than this gym. The one in Finnieston has an actual, proper café and more space (greater architecture). The changing rooms in Finnieston Street are slightly cleaner. It's strange enough the fact that the two gyms are so close to one another. The people here are helpful too but this gym is old.
Good morning John, thank-you for your recent review. We appreciate all feedback, both positive and negative. We hope to see you back in our gym again soon. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow West End Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Fantastic experience: Really big gym. Lots of things to do, dozens of machines and a lot of equipment. Big swimming pool.
Good morning Victor, thank-you for your recent review. We appreciate all feedback and are grateful for your 5 star rating. We hope to see you back in our gym again soon. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow West End Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Positive experience: Runied by Nuffield, was much better as Virgin Active. Excellent layout and space with big changing rooms. The equipment is quite tired though and cleaning could be better particularly in toilet areas. Nuffield are a nightmare to deal with and do things like remove popular classes without talking to members. Also changed the parking arrangements which is a deal breaker.
Good morning Alasdair, thank-you for your recent review. We appreciate all feedback, both positive and negative. If you would like to raise your concerns further, please email [email protected]. We hope to see you back in our gym again soon. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Glasgow West End Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Positive experience: Health suite needs major upgrades, although a good club, friendly staff and convenient location.
Positive experience: Everything you want from a gym but more expensive membership than when it was previously run by virgin.
Positive experience: Decent sized gym, good facilities. Cafe is nice.
Fantastic experience: Awesome gym. Sophie M. in membership spent loads of time showing me the gym. She was super patient answering my questions and going over pricing. It's very rare to be able to walk in at 8:30pm and get 30+ minutes of a tour and all your membership questions answered. I'd definitely say Sophie made the whole process completely painless and she even accommodated my lack of address since I was in the middle of a move. She was super nice and the whole process was painless! Haven't met a more kind or patient person in membership sales. Sophie is terrific!
Fantastic experience: Good gym and climbing wall available. Staff are really nice and good availability of equipment, even at peak times.
Good Afternoon Paul - thank you for taking the time to post a review and 5* rating! We appreciate the feedback and are pleased that you are enjoying your gym membership. Kind regards Nuffield Health Glasgow West End Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym. Larger than the other Nuffield gyms in Glasgow, though not as 'fancy'.
Negative experience: They changed their cancellation policy. Failed to inform me and then refused to honour the original agreement. Costing me an extra 50 bucks when I was injured and unable to train. Will be looking for a gym in the finneston area around March again, but I certainly won't be going anywhere near a Nuffield health gym. Had they honoured it, I would of went back and happily spent more money. Plenty of far cheaper options in the surrounding area. And hopefully run by company's who carry themselves with a little more integrity.
Positive experience: Lots of equipment but a cold soulless place
Fantastic experience: Great facility with really helpful staff and wonderful atmosphere. Well worth it!
Fantastic experience: Big spacious gym with lots of amenities, swimming and rock-climbing is a plus
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Glasgow by far open space brill
Fantastic experience: A proper gym no messing about
Positive experience: Spacious gym with pool, sauna & steam. The equipment is also well maintained by the staff and the classes are good with plenty to choose from.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Glasgow.
Fantastic experience: swimming pool is warm
Fantastic experience: My favourite gym by miles. Superb two storey open plan design, excellent facilities: studios, machines, TRX, great free weight and boxing training area. Fantastic choice of classes, good cafe and large comfy seating area with decent free wifi and computers. Always has parking spaces. Far better than any of the much more expensive London gyms I've used. Lovely pool, not too much chlorine or too busy. Everything is pretty new, well looked after and kept clean. Temperature is well controlled. Not too hot or cold. Even has a climbing wall! It's just an excellent place to spend your time and energy. I've tried just about everything. It's even lovelier when the sun comes out, and the surrounding area is great too. Can't get better value for money for such a first class gym. On top of it all, the staff are so friendly, helpful and down to earth.
Fantastic experience: Great gym with plenty of facilities. The climbing wall and TRX setups are fantastic, plenty of cardio and weight machines, freeweights, kettlebells, pool, sauna, steam room and a cafe.
Fantastic experience: Great gym great staff it has a lot of equipment been there nearly 5years enjoy it
