Rainham Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: I’m really disappointed with the junior membership at Everyone Active. The gym itself is decent, but the booking system is terrible. You have to book every session, but there are barely any slots available for juniors. It’s always “first come, first served,” making it almost impossible to go regularly. There aren’t enough junior sessions, and it feels like juniors are an afterthought. If you’re going to offer junior memberships, there should be enough sessions to actually use them. Very frustrating and disappointing. Posting this from an anonymous account to avoid any awkwardness, but this really needs to be addressed and more slots need to be created ASAP
Positive experience: I visited here to attend a family swim session with my granddaughter. We pre-booked via the everyone active app. The session was now overly busy, and involved family friendly floats and balls etc. The site itself offers showers and toilets for pre and post swimming. Overall a good time was had and I'm happy to recommend
Fantastic experience: Local, clean, and close to Tesco parking. Staff are decent and the gym is not super busy.
Fantastic experience: Rainham Leisure Centre is a relaxed and friendly place. Staff customer service is excellent. It is somewhere that makes its customers feel welcome and at ease.
Negative experience: Expensive i brought a adult and child membership because my child wants to join the army so i told her the gym would be good for her but she has to pre book and is only allowed 3-4 or 4-5 on week days my child cant attend these as she gets home from school at 4.30 and by the time shes changes and walks over it will be 5 o'clock.the key card system doesn't work in the gym because u have to push open the handle and tap your key card at the same the handle and card reader are opposite sides also if u don't do it first try it won't let u in at all Also the pool is freezing both child, and lane side this doesn't help my joints in which i was told at reception both pools our always heated. The wave part is to deep and to strong even for swimmers. Locker room has cameras and its also mixed male and female the change cubicles walls don't reach the celling where cameras are right upove and can look in especially when u have young children getting changed the tiles on the floor are slipping as my daughter fell over on it she was walking slowly and i was watching her i have also nearly fallen befor
Positive experience: Crowded most of the time, not enough equipment.
Fantastic experience: It recently celebrated its first birthday, so you know the equipment & facilities are up to scratch, Fantastic staff, well run, friendly family atmosphere, you can sit while enjoying a froffy coffee or a slush in clean surroundings I would pretty much say they nailed it .I will not name names but thank you to all at everyone active rainham for your above and beyond professional attitudes & assistance .
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, lovely pool, gym and studios . Staff are so friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Great gym good value for money and the staff are fantastic
Fantastic experience: Swim here every week brilliant
Negative experience: This is a nice clean new facility but I can only give 1 star due to the fact that the Cycling Studio absolutely stinks of Chlorine from the pool. The chlorine heavy atmosphere must be a permanent feature due to the high humidity air from the pool causing rust on the exercise equipment! Obviously it is not very nice breathing in chlorine heavy air in whilst exercising hard. I hope this issue can be addressed but until such times I won't be using it again .
Fantastic experience: My first visit was fantastic. Any pre nerves went as soon as i started the exercise class. A great welcoming place
Fantastic experience: Gym
Fantastic experience: Love this gym.....always made to feel welcome ......gym is great .....PT session today and the staff are friendly and genuine. Never uncomfortable. Pool is great and the range of classes is brilliant Worth every penny
Fantastic experience: An almost brand new leisure Centre / gym with syncing pool facilities. A decently size gym with plenty of equipment, lockers and a spin studio. Also a group session studio for classes. Plenty of parking onsite.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and good facilities, not the largest leisure centre but has most of the essentials weights, machines, pool classes etc. Would like the opportunity of either floor to ceiling changing rooms/showers as a female I feel vulnerable at times but that can't be helped
Positive experience: VISIT DATE: WED 03/06/2024 Rainham Leisure Centre is a new facility (at time of visit it has just celebrated its first year of being open) in Rainham Village, which is in the London Borough of Havering. The centre is operated by Everyone Active and, though smaller than their centres in Hornchurch and Romford, has a gym, large studio and swimming pool. On entry you are greeted by a compact lobby which houses the reception desk / shop / cafe. The charging area is a decent size, with plenty of cubicles, which are all standard size, with a few family changing rooms to the sides. There are also plenty of toilets, including accessible ones. Additionally, plenty of lockers (£1 or filename operated) and a good amount of showers; either communal or within cubicles. The pool is shorter than a normal length pool, 1.2 metres deep, with no windows to the outside and a low ceiling. There is no balcony, but there is some seating at one end. Unfortunately, due to the lack of height, it is sweltering at the end section. There is one internal window, but it's quite small so you can only see one end of the pool through it. As I was there with my daughter for her swimming lesson, I didn't use any of the facilities myself, but did sit at the end of the pool. She said the water was warmer than in the large pool at Hornchurch and she also liked the facilities in general. In terms of parking, there is a small council run car park next to the centre, which you have to pay for, or you can park in the Tesco car park for up to 3 hours free of charge, which is very generous of Tesco and supportive of the local community as you can also easily walk through to Rainham Village. There is also a small park the other side of the centre, though we didn't have a look at this on this visit.
Positive experience: Car parking! Beware! Shame to Havering council charging horrendous fee's, eg £6.40/3hrs, and claiming to work in partnership with the leisure centre! Meanwhile the only people who might use it are the people who attend the leisure centre. Shout out to TESCO who lets you park free for 3 hours!
Fantastic experience: Small but clean with friendly helpful staff
Fantastic experience: I recently joined Rainham Leisure Centre and couldn't be more satisfied with my experience! As someone who had never visited a gym before, I was a little nervous, but the excellent staff here made all the difference. Every single member of staff is highly skilled and genuinely interested in helping you to achieve your fitness goals. Their knowledge and guidance have also been valuable in helping me grow as an individual. Furthermore, a special thanks to Julia, who always welcomes me with a warm smile at the front desk. Her positive attitude sets the tone for my workouts and makes me feel welcomed every time I go in. I can reassure you all that Rainham Leisure Centre offers every gym-goer an outstanding sense of bonding and support. I can't image going somewhere else; as this place feels like home, and I intend to commit my fitness here forever. Thank you to everyone at Rainham Leisure Centre for making my fitness journey both pleasurable and rewarding!
Negative experience: Went swimming here at 6am monday. The place was dirty even that early. The swimming pool was water was very warm like swimming in a bath. Wont be back
Positive experience: Great gym, friendly staff, however could you PLEASE turn on the air con??? Always feels like a sauna inside.
Positive experience: Had issues with membership, unfortunately first member of staff at the till was useless and was not interested in helping at all (not giving out her name as in sure she knows who she is) , but luckily Julia came in shortly after to save the day and was superb. 5* to her. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Good gym, clean and friendly
Fantastic experience: Nice peaceful gym, good equipment, never too busy. Doesn't feel like a youth centre as the hornchurch one feels like. Very pleased they opened this one as Harrow lodge @ hornchurch got too much.
Negative experience: I am at a total loss to understand why, in this day and age, the steps into the pool are totally unaccessible to anyone who is not 100% fit. Who ever designed the stairs into the pool should be ashamed of themselves. If you have even a minor disability it is hard to get into the pool and almost impossible to get out. The steps are embedded in the wall so you need strong arms and legs to get in and even stronger arms and legs to get out. It is a shame at the pool itself was quite nice but I feel totally excluded from being able to use this pool again. Not impressed
Positive experience: A nice gym not too busy plenty of parking, good classes and gym area itself.
Negative experience: Too small, not enough equipment , stretching area is very small, toilets and changing rooms are unusex wich i dont like, its overpriced, and opening times on Saturday and Sunday is only till 8pm. Still visiting though because the location is suitable for me
Fantastic experience: 1st time using the swimming pool. Nice size, great people & staff. Looking forward to my next visit
Positive experience: Nice experience
Fantastic experience: Good centre for local residents. Well set up gym. Good pool. Good selection of use pool use times benefitting vulnerable people and day to day users. Exercise classes are excellent. Particular mention to Lucy and Steph courses in the week during hours between 0900 and 1200. Don't lose these. All instructor classes have been very good.
Fantastic experience: Very simple designed pool..excellent staff..first class changing and showers
Negative experience: The staff here are rude and dunce . Came to renew my membership the woman said she don’t know how to do it I have to come back tomorrow in the day for the person who knows how to do it to assist me … like how do you work at a place and not know how to do your job .
Positive experience: Fantastic range of equipment great pool although it could be a little deeper
Fantastic experience: Nice place. Lovely helpful staff. Nice swimming pool.
Fantastic experience: Facilitates are great. Timetables are good but no Swimming Session Wed/Thu evening. Staff are lovely.
Negative experience: He wokeifaction of gyms. Not one if you are looking for a hard work for example. Why have slam balls and not let people use them as such. Every bit of gym equipment comes with a risk the usesr accepts. Get your heads stright its a gym not a nursery.
Negative experience: Very disappointed. The place its overcrowded and who let children to a gym??? They running around without any adult control. Gym its not a place for kids. Ridiculous!
Positive experience: The swimming pool is water is cold - but when u 1st get changed its warm (quite nice (good temperature ) just for me the water was abit cold My son was laughing his head off at me coz I was holding on to the rail with dear life I didn't want to plop straight in !... & to the extent that the life guard thought I needed the disability chair to lower me in (aahh it was funny thou ) I just don't like the cold
Positive experience: Best new development in the area for a long time. Great gym. Love going there as much as I can
Positive experience: Good
Positive experience: Small but adequate for all your fitness needs
Fantastic experience: Great classes on a Monday night and early Wednesday morning!
Negative experience: Gyms doesn’t have enough equipment or the space to accommodate the amount of people who go there - it’s almost impossible to use anything in the week from the times of 5pm until 7pm - can’t use activity rooms when they aren’t in use so it’s alot of wasted space most of the time
Fantastic experience: Great Gym - Defiantly worth it - Swimming pool too
Fantastic experience: Nice place
Negative experience: Been going to that gym since the day open they missing few basic machines like free weights legs press reverse lat pull down no spa facilities at all and one major issue they don’t have drinking water supply in the gym whenever you ask them they give you stupid reason and if you need water you have to buy from the counter very disappointed. In 4 months i have faced membership problems continuously because its got cancelled every month and last time they charged me membership joining fee again there wasn’t my fault i keep updating them all the time
Fantastic experience: Brilliant and intimate
Positive experience: Good swimming but only same height
Negative experience: Swimming times are a joke to the point its not even worth going to and they priorities kids lessons an family sessions more than people who want to swim. Now a kid pooed in the pool an it's closed for 24 hours would not recomend just take the extra time an go hornchurch. Membership cancelled
Negative experience: Finally found somewhere I could swim before starting work at 8am love it! Now been reduced to 2 days.. joke glad I didn’t take a membership out. Very disappointing. We need a private gym in this area.. where swimming clubs and lessons don’t take priority!
Positive experience: So far so good but many excercise machines can be added
Fantastic experience: Very clean and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Love the gym and pool! Staff are nice too
Negative experience: Seeing as how majority of the classes are virtual (you are watching it on a screen ), the price is more than other local gyms. They charge you for missing classes or canceling late which I find ridiculous. No there is no sauna or jacuzzi but if you upgrade your membership then you have access to other gyms that have extra facilities. The place is very clean. The toilets and changing rooms at unisex which I do not like. But they have a lot of private space if this also bothers you. Now the gym is small, very small. So small that it has you considering the price. Also THEY HAVE NO Kettle Bells. The room for classes can't be used outside of classes which is very frustrating as the gym does not have a lot of free weight space .
Fantastic experience: Been to the swimming pool several times and love that its a constant 1.2m really clean and fresh facilities
Fantastic experience: Fantastic new leisure centre for the area
Negative experience: They honestly don't even deserve one star. I am absolutely disgusted with the customer service and service overall. Staff at reception were very dismissive and couldn't care less. Lady I spoke to very rude and unhelpful. Manager couldn't care less about customer satisfaction. Paid for a full session swimming however kicked out after 20 mins. Manager said this was my fault and nothing to do with reception not explaining that I only had this amount of time left. Was my first time here and definitely the last. Have told all my family and friends to avoid like the plaque and advise you to do the same. I honestly have no words for the treatment I received here and will never return.
Fantastic experience: Really enjoying the gym so far. Decent size and I don't find it too crowded for when I go (4pm-5pm). I've attended many of the classes too, and found them very engaging and fun. My only complaint is that thewater aerobics gets extremely busy, a class thats in a weeks time had all 40 spaces taken and 31 people on a waiting list, that is insane. Why don't you increase the water aerobics classes as its clearly too busy for demand.
Fantastic experience: Better then nothing
Fantastic experience: Its lovely!!
Fantastic experience: Nice swimming pool, all one depth all over, so dont have to worry about deepend.
Negative experience: App just to visit what a joke !
Fantastic experience: Great lovely local leisure centre
Fantastic experience: Brilliant new Leisure Centre. Swimming pool is nice, and changing room area and showers are big enough to accommodate large group of people. Really appreciate waiting area for the parents. Lovely lady at the reception ! I really can’t find any faults with it
Positive experience: A decent enough leisure centre for local residents, with a solid selection of key gym equipment, a well set up, vibrant spinning room, and a good sized group fitness studio. The recently opened pool is the usual 25m long but not as wide (or deep) as some other Everyone Active locations. As others have said, I've found the staff to be friendly and helpful, and those who use the centre are all ages and body shapes so it's reassuringly not elitist or intimidating - a good thing when we're all just trying our best to keep fit and healthy. The cafe/shop area is fairly small - in keeping with the size of the centre - and it's good that they put some kind of outdoor play area back after building the place. Let's dispel the myth that this was ever supposed to be the flagship centre - if you want that (incl. sauna) pay the extra and head over to Harrow Lodge instead. But if you live in the south of Havering and just want to do some cardio, weights or swimming this should do just fine for you.
Negative experience: The gym is very standard for the price however my biggest issues is there's only 1 bench press for the whole gym, there's also no water machine which is a given in every single gym I've been to before. They have shared changing rooms, which I find very strange and awkward at times. For a multi-million £ new leisure centre, this is way below standard. No sauna or steam room is a complete joke. The leisure centre was late to complete and cost millions to build, which leaves you wondering why it's so basic. Whoever was in charge of this whole project should be ashamed of the outcome.
Negative experience: The swimming pool has no deep end. It’s 1.2m all the way. All other Everyone Active centres charge £4.99 for adult swimming it’s £6.99 here. Why so much? Kids are more expensive compared to other places as well. The price needs to be adjusted. Along with that, no steam room, no sauna. Based on price and limitations, Why would this be the preferred place when Harrow Lodge and Dagenham are so close. The place is clean, no doubt. But it is new… let’s see how maintenance continues. The gym is really overcrowded and there isn’t enough sessions for children supervised sessions. Overall, very disappointing, especially as this is so close to us.
Negative experience: Went to book up a swimming session for myself and 2 children and was asked to pay almost £16! I normally go to Harrow Lodge Hornchurch where it is roughly £12. I am sorry but this is just ridiculously expensive - can you imagine in the holidays where you want to keep the children active and 2 visits a week for 6 weeks would cost you almost £200 (as opposed to £144)! I am sorry but the pricing just means a big no, who knows it might be nice but in these times they are pricing things far too expensively.
Negative experience: Website said Sauna but there isn't one which was a reason I joined. Gym is very small, equipment is good as it's new but limited. No seated row which really is fundamental in a gym. Shared changing rooms are very awkward . You have to book to use the pool at the moment. £35 a month is expensive for what you get . Especially when bigger gyms are doing £15 a month deals. Staff are very nice though.
Positive experience: Honestly people giving the place a 1 star review for the sake there’s no Sauna or jacuzzi is a bit weird to me the gym essentially has just about everything you need an abdominal crunch machine would of been nice however but they do that have a mat area so you can also work on your core. Looking forward for the swimming pool opening as well later down the line! For atleast being a local leisure centre I think it’s a good addition to Rainham and everyone just had the expectations that this will be the greatest centre in the whole of the Uk
Negative experience: No sauna or steam + shared changing rooms. So much potential for the local residents, but ultimately wasted.
Negative experience: New review: Went on a Sunday for swimming - the receptionist looks like no interest to work and her face was covered with irritation ; had some enquiry about swimming membership only but receptionist and the other guy said everything is on website(!) Why do you two sitting there using mobile phones and have zero knowledge about what gym services!! Such a shame - that’s your job to know. How rude the customer service !! I am a brown girl and I do felt some kind of RACISM - but they can’t get into my nerve! So disrespectful. Gym is very small and over crowded all time. They didn’t tell that pool won’t be opening till August or else I would have not joined. Didn’t like the gym as absolutely congested.
Negative experience: Would be the perfect fitness club, if they had spa facilities like some of there others clubs sauna, hot tub and steam room. Not sure why they don’t when they have the space for it, literally a less than 10min walk but have to drive Bannatyne or use David Llloyd. I even suggested it before they open but they didn’t really take it on board
Negative experience: Do no go
Positive experience: Lovely gym, I was just uncomfortable with having to share a changing room/showers with men there is no separate men’s or women’s room
Negative experience: There is no suana but have plenty of room around the pool for it also there is no leg gears which is strange I don't know who manages the gym but it could be much better
Positive experience: Alr
Negative experience: Went there this morning at 6am for a swim to be told no lifeguards ! So pool not open to the end of July after staff told my yesterday pool was open today ! Also cannot believe they is no sauna Steam room Or jacuzzi as there is enough space next to the Pool for it and would attract a lot more customers ! Including me ! Not a great start !
Positive experience: Swimming pool, gym, group sessions. Gym is small. Great options for those who want to train upper body. They don't have HAAK, leg press, fitness steps. But good they have: About 5-6 treadmills; Free weights zones; Adduction and abduction machines; Hypertension machine. Toilets and changing rooms are for both females and males.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and amazing customer service.
Positive experience: It’s not open yet
