Bannatyne Health Club and Spa - Wakefield: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Massage was fabulous! Facilities are great....and clean!! I don't have a single complaint. The cafe was cheap .. for the price we paid it was a wonderful treat. Thank you very much!

Positive experience: I do enjoy Bannatynes Gym, but there are a few let downs. Showers and pool aren't always cleaned every day, I saw someone leave their tissue after using it for their nose, near the pool, and it was still there the next day. Same with a band aid being left in the shower being there the next day. Another thing is that they always turn everything off at the café before 10pm. I understand wanting to get home, but if I'm paying £50 a month to come here, with the gym closing time to be 10:30pm on weekdays, I'd like to be able to have a smoothie or coffee after I've had my late night swim. Overall it's still a nice gym, just a few tweaks needed I think

Negative experience: Gym equipment is good enough but facilities are very poor. Lockers broken, showers not working and changing rooms smell rotten, sauna/steam often out of order. They need to start putting money back into it before members leave

Negative experience: booked a spa treatment for my partners birthday and her friend, they arrived this afternoon for a spa treatment (made not to feel welcome) , when arrived they purchased their bags including sandals, towel and robe, was unsure what to wear underneath the robe, (underwear or swimwear etc) whilst at the health centre they have been accused of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs due to their behaviour (anxious and very nervous laughing) , i can assure you neither of the women drink nor do any kind of substances, they were refused their treatment and told to re-book a treatment on a different day, however as you could imagine this is very embarrasing for them and at the same time they were upset about the accusations and embarrased infront of other people, when defending that they dont drink they then tried accusing of drugs again, DO NOT BOOK ANY SPA TREATMENTS AT THIS VENUE, very disgusting service to say the least

Fantastic experience: Great gym
Hello Ariel Ortega, thank you for your review rating of our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Wakefield
Positive experience: A great gym and pool but in need of modernisation and a general lift to it's fit and feel. The equipment in the gym is well kept and modern but the general fit of the changing rooms is poor and bits of the pool need TLC. Staff are great.
Hello Luke Boucher, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Wakefield. We really appreciate your feedback, thank you, Amy Piper.
Negative experience: Avoid this company at all costs! Gym equipment is all outdated and the facilities are a let down. Not only that but the company have refused my request to cancel myself and my partners request to cancel despite us having unforeseen circumstances and having to move. There is a gym nowhere near where we are staying now and they are still refusing to cancel our membership. Working within the fitness industry myself I certainly would not be recommending any of my clients or fellow PT's to be going anywhere near this company!

Positive experience: Where do you start with this gym. Let’s just say it’s a particular crowd for starters, I reckon the average age is between 40-45. Which actually is perfect if you’re wanting a less intimidating, more polite clientele. However, the facilities are ridiculously outdated. Grubby showers and toilets, wall tiles and ceiling tiles around the jacuzzi a weird yellow colour and coming off the walls. Reckon it needed a renovation about a decade ago, now it’s clinging on for dear life. Also the gym equipment is poor. Free weights area needs doubling in size, treadmills supposedly offer TV but if you run faster than the ‘10’ speed it shuts off. Nevertheless, the staff on site are lovely. All in all it’s a mixed bag, but for the money you pay you’re probably better elsewhere.
Hello Scott Eaglen, we appreciate your feedback and would like the opportunity to understand your concerns. Please contact us when you have a chance at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your review, we will continue to try and improve the service we offer, Amy Piper.
Positive experience: We came here for a day spa really enjoyed it. Staff were amazing so friendly and helpful. The café is really good food just a shame they don’t have loungers by the pool.
Fantastic experience: We arrived to a warm welcome and shown where to go. Changing rooms are clean. We were impressed with the pool, jacuzzi and steam room and sauna. We enjoyed our treatments, albeit very short treatment times. We enjoyed lunch at a very reasonable price. The only downside was having to bring your own towel, robe and sliders which is not usual for a spa. We are looking forward to returning.
Fantastic experience: The spa day was lovely! The relaxation room was great and the treatment was perfect. Swimming pool was extremely busy but still a great experience, the spa day is exactly what you make of it. Highly recommend. Would recommend hiring the spa robe & towel.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, very relaxing environment
Positive experience: Decent place to go for a dip with sauna and steam room. The spa was a really nice experience also, with their relaxation room creating zen before going in for your treatment it was lovely. The Swedish back, shoulder and neck massage was fab! But was very short. Wish they used the full 30 minutes!
Fantastic experience: My daughter and myself had a lovely day here, all the staff were lovely and very helpful, the spa is spotless, our treatments were professionally done and for the amount of time stated. If I have one small criticism its the cream tea, it would have been nice to have it somewhere a little nicer maybe the relaxation room. Definitely go again
Positive experience: Pros: - Lots of facilities including, gym, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi & pool - Friendly staff - Lots of parking spaces Cons: - There needs to be more investment in the pool area / changing rooms as many parts are old or broken Overall, it’s reasonable for the price if you’re not too bothered about the lack of pool investment.
Negative experience: She only massaged for 12 minutes! Went for a 30 minute sweedish BNS massage. Arrived at 25 past (5 minutes early). She got me from the relaxation room at 25 to, then left me to get changed and I thought she was taking a while so I looked at my watch and it was 43. When she said it was over and left the room I couldn't believe it so I looked at the time again and it was 55. So the massage in total was less than 12 minutes! The girl from the start looked like she didn't really want to be there with her attitude. Would not go back.
Negative experience: Poor facilities, very dated and grubby. So much chlorine in the water my eyes were burning. Had to walk back and forth as the spa is next to the entrance and the pool is at the back. Pool was all lane swimming, no leasure pool. It was freezing. Tried countless times to get in the relaxation room but was always full 6 bed. No loungers by the pool. By the time we got in it was time for the massage. Unfortunately my massage was very poor, couldn't wait to leave. Tried to get food but half the menu was off as the machines were broken. I don't mind having to pay for robes ect but the towels were tiny and robes ripped they did not have a lot of sizes in flip flops so we were given sizes smaller than we are so pointless keeping them. Changing rooms and car park is what the 1* is for.
Negative experience: Had a voucher for a 40 minute massage. First went into the relaxation room which all you can hear is the staff laughing and joking. Then had a 20 minute massage. Was totally rush, unprofessional and would never recommend. Never asked the pressure I wanted at the start. Waste of money and wouldn’t go back to a Bannatyne!!
Fantastic experience: Was a lovely place Molly did my treatments was amazing thank you
Positive experience: Overall pretty good. Friendly staff. Misses a five star because quite a few changing room cubicles are broken
Positive experience: Top gym facilities. Good atmosphere if a little busy at times. Could be a bit cleaner in the dressing rooms with the floors a bit dusty. But overall a good quality gym, pool area, sauna and steam rooms. Friendly helpful staff.
Fantastic experience: I went to the spa on Sunday 7th April with my daughter. We had a back, shoulder, and neck massage, a full body scrub and a head massage. The staff are wonderful, really professional and very friendly. The spa is super clean and welcoming, making you feel relaxed as soon as you walk along the corridor to the relaxation room. My therapist was a lady called Dawn, who was great. She worked on and got rid of some knots I had in my left shoulder/neck area. It felt so good right away to have them gone. My daughter also had a great experience, and we would both definitely recommend a visit to the spa for a brilliant relaxing experience.
Negative experience: Wow wish I read these reviews before booking.AVOID!! I booked a spa day for myself as I’m struggling with my little toddler at the moment and needed some ‘mum’ time. I arrived at the front building and entered the spa area. Was taken in for my treatment and for some reason was left laying on the bed for approx 10 mins whilst the therapist came in. I thought for a second she had forgotten about me. However she finally arrived and treatment continued. The treatment was average and would agree with one of the other reviews the scalp massage was more of a head tickle with oil. After the treatment I asked if I could have a robe so I can go straight in to continue with my spa day, she advised I would need to go to reception to get a robe but she can get me a towel. So a towel it is I headed out to find out by reception she actually meant the gym reception… so I walked out with no shoes on or clothes and my towel!!!!! Gym goers coming and going. Nobody at reception and waited an uncomfortable amount of time. I then popped my head round the corner and the lady finally let me in as if I was a member and continued to serve customers coming up for drinks and food. At this point I felt so uncomfortable I just navigated myself and walked straight into the changing rooms, got my things and left. I did ask to speak to the manager on the way out who advised it can be awkward sometimes with staff been on breaks etc and said she can only apologise. I go to various spas and this is by far the worst I’ve ever been to and to repeat all the other reviews your best of going to your local public swimming baths it’s actually terrible. To say you can go to the lovely rudding park for the same price is just a no brainier and no idea what possessed me to book this.(distance) To top it off I’ve written a formal complaint which I’ve had a rude reply from Amy the general manager who I believe was who I spoke to when I was there. She clearly isn’t bothered about the reputation of this branch. It’s literally terrible and in my eyes she needs sacking. They definitely shouldn’t be selling spa days it’s so far from a spa I’ve ever seen. Please don’t waste your money like me.
Positive experience: Helpful staff. High level of cleanliness. Rarely overly busy. The gym and fitness areas are well equipt. I mostly use the cardio equipment and have never had to wait. There's a good size pool for length swimming, kept at a sensible temperature. The spa pool, sauna and steam room are a popular addition. The changing rooms and pool areas are clean but in desperate need of refurbishment. In the men's changing room there are broken lockers. The artex/plaster is peeling in the pool side. Overall, a good gym and spa for the price.
Positive experience: Bought a package deal and glad it was discounted. The jacuzzi was down for the duration of my visit and a few things were missed from the treatments when we went, but in all it was a nice day out at an okay venue. Told by a regular that the Bannatyne in Barnsley was better. So would look to visit there next time.
Negative experience: I wouldn’t give this one star if I had a choice for less. Booked a “couples massage” where taken in separately we weren’t told where to get gowns and towels and it was supposed to be a 25 min treatment the fact I had to get undressed and dressed lay and wait for the lady to come in and was only in the room 17 mins and my partner was out before that shows we didn’t get our full treatment time! We then had no clue what we where supposed to do after the receptionist was too busy talking to another staff member to talk to us when we finally got seen she told us it was £20 to rent the gown and £20 that we would get back not telling us it would take 3-5 days to go back in until after taking the payment then told us a lot of people say they havn’t got emails with information on but we must have done basically saying we where lieing the massage was less than mediocre the facilities where small we didn’t know what facilities we could use and the pool was foggy and gross we spent £89 and left after an hour not the relaxing spa day is expected
Negative experience: My daughter and I went for mother's day. The reception and staff were great but the treatment we had was hopeless. I felt like had a junior giving me my massage. She was pleasant but it was the worse massage plus head massage I have had. I told her I like pressure but she did not do that either. She did not know any pressure points at all either and I have had many massages being 54 years. I am also not one to complain or moan for no reason but I feel it was honestly a waste of my day.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place. Has all the facilities one would require.
Negative experience: I have been a member for nearly a year and now looking around for an alternative when my membership is due for renewal. The gym facilities are tired and very poor hygiene. Certain equipment like the treadmills feels like it has not been cleaned properly for a long time and feels sticky. I try my best to wipe down equipment after use but the hygiene standards are poor. It makes for an unpleasant experience when using the gym. The overall look and feel is tired. The online classes in the mornings seemed to be empty and I don't see any effort to schedule more engaging classes. It's a shame as I would like to do classes in the morning but not on my own which tends to happen. The place feels unloved and uncared for which is driving me to explore other local gyms of a similar price but much better standards.
Negative experience: Would not recommend a spa day here. The facilities were too busy with members to be able to use anything and relax and enjoy. Cafe area looked unsafe with missing tiles and boxes everywhere. Not very pleasant to want to eat your meal. Food wasn't the best either. The treatments were okay and the young girl was lovely n polite. But rest of it was very disappointing, and not worth the money.
Negative experience: One star for not working air con at the gym! If I wanted stay warm, I should stay under the duvet..
Fantastic experience: Great spa day!! Defo going back when we can to enjoy another relaxing day, all staff where very professional
Negative experience: Came here for a spa day for my sister’s 18th birthday present. On arrival, the lady at reception stood there yawning at us when directing us to the pool area. Other staff were kind and helpful but this was not a very professional welcoming. The facilities were okay - sauna and steam were nice but it was fairly busy all day. We had a 25 minute Swedish massage booked for both of us at 2.15 pm, our treatment didn’t begin until 2.22pm and finished at 2.37pm which was disappointing to say the least seen as it is not a cheap treatment!! To add to this, the ‘Swedish massage’ was only a back massage which was more of a rub than massage. The ladies in the spa were lovely despite this issue but that was the only positive. I would not recommend spending a spa day here due to this experience as it was highly disappointing and we won’t be returning. It is very expensive for what you get.
Negative experience: I feel one star is generous. Booked a spa day for 3 £150 included a treatment. The pool area is scruffy and dated, the treatments were nothing special at all. Nowhere decent to sit and relax, there is a relaxation room in the spa area but very small and awkward when other people come in. Seats around the pool uncomfortable wicker seats at the pool edge. Tried to break the day up by ordering some food in cafe bit, was given raw chips. Had to send them back, rubbery chicken and a dry scone. Was shocking. Ended up eating nothing. Total waste of money, it was scruffy and unenjoyable we ended up leaving early and one of us not even having treatments because we could not wait to leave as was not enjoyable or relaxing in the slightest. My friend was given a fluffy dressing gown instead of a toweled one. Asked to exchange to a towel one so she could keep dry and comfortable. To which they stated she could only swap if she paid for another. Just shocking service, shocking staff, shocking facilities. Will never attend again.
Negative experience: Ive been a member for years and love the classes. Unfortunately the air con in the gym has broken and they don't seem to want to pay to get it fixed. Instead of enjoying a good workout I feel exhausted and unable to complete a normal workout due to the heat. Sort it out.
Fantastic experience: Very good facility, everyone is welcoming and the equipment is great
Negative experience: Officially the worst Spa I have ever been to, massage can not be called a massage, staff weren't very helpful (in the spa) one came across as quite rude, I would not recommend wasting any money on this place, huge disappointment
Positive experience: Adequately stocked commercial gym. Good culture, mostly older crowd 30y+. Decent facilities sauna and steam room and big pool. Relatively clean most of the time. Most things get fixed relatively quickly. Good classes. Could do With lifting platforms for deadlifts and heavy compounds. Been member 6 months.
Fantastic experience: Excellent day! Lovely spa treatments and friendly staff
Negative experience: There's nothing relaxing or luxurious at this Bannatyne Wakefield spa DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! I paid £98 for a relaxing and luxurious spa day for 2 with prosecco cream tea I would have been better off going to our local swimming pool and having a coffee and chips, THIS PLACE IS FALSE ADVERTISING !!! Totally Disgusted!! Will never use Bannatyne again
Negative experience: I have been a member at Bannatyne’s for almost a year and have had recurring issues with their online system. So much so that they failed to amend the issues on their side and put me in contact with a debt collection agency for no apparent reason. I had reached out a number of times to amend the direct debit as the information they had down for me was wrong, however this was never fixed meaning I had to pay manually which didn’t match up with the month I had to pay for due to issues with their portal. After a stressful few weeks of this, I had to pay a debt collection agency the fees as I was not able to use the portal correctly. Once paid, I went into the club to be told I can’t come in as I am in debt to them, which was said so openly in front a crowd, very unprofessional. I showed the lady my account and that the finance sector in the portal showed they owed me money now and she said it must be a different account, I’ve only ever had one account. After a week of ringing and being told they need to get confirmation from head office, I have finally received the green light to use my account if I come in to amend my direct debit, again, this was their issue from the start and I am making yet another journey to fix this. What’s worse is the owed amount was £150, but the balance I owed on the Bannatyne account was £392, which made no sense. Unfortunately my contract is until May so I can not cancel until then, but if you are looking for a luxury health club membership, which Bannatyne’s claims to be, I would look elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Great place and staff really helpful, the P.T's really know how to make you welcome and help you with your Start Smart Plan
Negative experience: We wanted to experience the spa voucher we got. But to be honest, if you want to nice relaxing ‘experience’, go to a proper spa resort, it’s just not the same here
Negative experience: Terrible body scrub. Treatment girls didn't seem to care much. The facilities were small and crowded. Only reason I gave an extra star is because we were given a free spa day at the one in York as compensation
Fantastic experience: Strange, spa door is next to the front door . Chilly when you are in your robe
Positive experience: Not very clean but marvelous and friendly company
Positive experience: Had great facial and back massage
Positive experience: I’ve been a long time patron of Bannatyne’s and it is apparent to me that it isn’t a premium health club that you’d get for similar, competing prices. The equipment once upon a time might have been the bees knees but now, it’s an industry standard so there’s nothing separating this club to a local, council run one. The staff here are extremely polite and should be respected and they’re very respectful back. It is nice to have a cafe so that you can enjoy food and drinks pre or post exercise and the prices are fair considering the cost of the membership. Recent intervention by the regional manager has helped accelerate process changes allow for a more positive future for the health club.
Positive experience: The spa side was really nice with the treatments and relaxation room. The steam room, sauna, hot tub and pool are all in the regular side of the club so they were not really relaxing to use and the walls and tiles looked old and grubby. The hot tub seemed to be over chlorinated and was stinging our eyes. The staff were all lovely though and it was a good day overall.
Positive experience: Used for the spa mainly and treatments have always been good
Positive experience: The spa area was really nice and the lady who dealt with me was excellent...however, the other facilties were less than impressive. People on phones in changing rooms and poolside. The pool was freezing and the steam room was warm. The local patrons were moaning even. I would say it was just a glorified local sports centre.
Positive experience: Good and spacious gym. Welcoming staff. Very nice new steaming room. The spa facilities and staff are . I highly recommend it.
Fantastic experience: I love this club , monthly fee includes plenty activities, like gym , sauna, hot tub, pool, classes . After I join this , my back problem has improved, awesome!
Fantastic experience: Came here for a spa day with my mum and was not disappointed. The gym was fantastic with lots to choose from. I had a back, neck and shoulder massage and full body scrub with Deanna and I can honestly say it was the BEST massage I've had to date. Lovely girl, and fantastic at her job. I felt so relaxed after. Will definitely come here again
Fantastic experience: Good range of cardio machines and weights, friendly and helpful staff. Classes are really good, they do all the Les Mills ones plus yoga and pilates. Pool can get quite busy as it's on the small side, but overall a great gym
Negative experience: There’s always something broken… the poolside water fountain has been broken for months and months. Parking is good, reception are friendly, and the facilities are decent, however equipment isn’t totally clean and as I say things as constantly out of order or broken in some fashion. About as good as you’ll get around Wakefield regardless, so we’re a bit stuck really.
Negative experience: I'm a gym user here, if you're planning to sign up, ensure you trial using some day passes. I pay annually, but understand you can pay monthly. The cost includes the swimming pool facilities, which is how they justify the cost. For me, who only uses the gym it is not worth it. Equipment is regularly broken, including the day I'm writing this post there is been one cable machine and one running machine broken. The running machine isn't critical, as there is plenty of others. The cable machine however is not practical to be broken this long. Staff here are always very friendly, greeting you on arrival and wishing me a good day on leaving. Always appear to be busy. The locker room. Depending on the day you visit, the standards will vary. On a Saturday and Sunday expect to enter into a messy environment. Lockers left open, items left on benches. Monday to Friday I suspect they have more staff, as the facilities are definitely an improvement. The showers have just been upgraded, they seem very good, and are creating quite the talking point right now. Tiles are cracked throughout, on one occasion I've cut my heel due to jagged edges. This has been reported but no change. Toilet facilities are similar to above. Monday to Friday they are clean and presentable. Saturday and Sunday you will typically find no toilet roll, mess on the floors and general poor upkeep. The car park is free to use and a minute walk away from the front door. Due to location of my work and the gym location I'm signed up but for like for like experience you're best using facilities such as pure gym or similar.
Fantastic experience: Great gym , lovely spa and swimming pool . Staff spot on really helpfull and attentive. Massage treatment really good . Would definitely go back .
Fantastic experience: The most relaxing day I've had in a long time. This led to me joining the gym which I am currently enjoying!
Fantastic experience: Don't understand the negative reviews at all. Only been twice swimming both times but had a very pleasant experience. Facilities are well looked after, Gym and Pool are easy to find and access, staff very helpful and poolside was clean and so was the water, definitely worth the higher price tag.
Fantastic experience: Me and my partner went for a spa treatment, purchased through Virgin experience days. It was lovely! All the staff in the health club and spa were very friendly and happy to help. I had seen a few previous reviews about it being a bit run down, but I do not think that is true. The changing rooms were well looked after and clean. The downstairs area and spa were modern and welcoming. I did, however, not use the gym facilities upstairs, so I can not comment on that. I did hear someone complaining at the reception about the heat in the gym, saying it was unbearable and they left. The spa was amazing. The lady who did it was great. She was very welcoming, friendly and made us feel relaxed. We used the pool and jacuzzi which were both clean and well looked after. I would definitely recommend and visit again. There was nothing I could fault. There is also a Starbucks at the main reception and a cafe.
Negative experience: Wow this gym is really hard not recommend that problem with contract with equipment all buse and not help .... Bad bad bad the worst gym I've ever used lack of equipment, cabinets smell dirty and the employees have to work as if they were punished I do not recommend this place to anyone absolutely nothing to offer, the equipment is old wait until it fixes no investment in a new lack of places the manager of this place is absolutely rude and does not mile for such a gym such a price is a joke because it should not be acceptable in terms of hygiene
Fantastic experience: Luna in the cafe was such a lovely hostess and our food was delicious. Lovely facial but the pool was freezing
Fantastic experience: Me & my husband went to the Wakefield gym/Spa, we had never been before & the girl on reception was fabulous & so helpful! We went into the pool & then had 3 Spa treatments (our daughter had bought us the experience for our birthday)! Both me & my husband had a back, head & feet massage & wow, the young lady, Roxanne was fabulous & so lovely! I’m disabled, so I appreciate all the help & consideration you all showed me! Thank you & we will be back Diane & Alan X
Fantastic experience: Best gym I've been to by far!! Price wise it's a little more expensive than others, But... The fact that everyone is just so friendly and you don't have big knuckle heads looking down on you makes it worth the extra cash
Positive experience: The spa was outstanding but not a typical spa day. The facilities are ok but just a bit tired. Definitely short staffed, waited an age for a couple of sandwiches and most of the staff seemed to be in training. Wouldn't rush back.
Fantastic experience: Great spa, good selection of treatments and staff were so friendly!
Negative experience: Rude staff, was ignored, place is dated and half price spa treatment was disgusting, it wasn’t worth £5 let alone £42.50 …and that was half price. Avoid this “Health club & so called spa at all costs.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant spa facility will be definitely coming back
Fantastic experience: Had the most amazing body massage. Fabulous
Negative experience: Lovely gym and staff but the showers are a disgrace slow running , cold , mouldy and you keep having to press the button every 20 seconds to keep the water flowing which ruins your whole visit
Negative experience: The pool was very cold. The steam room wasn't working and the sauna wasn't very hot. £7.50 each to hire a robe and hand towel is a joke. The food in the cafe was cold. My spa treatment was nice although the relaxation room was heaving so we couldn't enjoy full use of it. I will be emailing a complaint as we paid a lot of money and received poor service. Visited a different Bannatynes and it was great. This one needs some TLC, a deep clean and the thermostat turning up asap. Won't return.
Negative experience: Gym equipment seriously outdated and could make much better use of the space. Changing rooms dirty, the pool area is unpleasant . With 1000s of new build houses around you’d think they’d take advantage of this opportunity and renovate the place.
Fantastic experience: Definitely I will visit spa again
Positive experience: Great treatment relaxing room, But cold showers and confusing booking system (always seems to be booked up for everything no matter what day you choose)
Negative experience: Couldn’t believe my eyes this evening when staff were turning equipment off before closing hours when members who are paying a premium are still wanting to use equipment! Don’t even use the spa facilities or changing rooms as they are grubby.
Negative experience: I have injured myself inside the gym, spraied my ankle, because of some plastic thingies being too close to the boxing bag, so then you cannot really move around the bag 360 and hit it. I came to reception, to let them know that those plastic thingies should be moved as this can happen to someone else too. I did not threat or was I mad in any way, I just came to tell them what happened and that it can happen to someone else. A manager came and immediately se kind a off forced me to sign and date an injury form, she was 100% concerned to cover the company rather than tending to the issue. I asked only if those can be moved somewhere else, and she said no, I canceled my membership right there and then. I don't wanna go to a gym where there is unhumaine behavior. Also, there is a trainer that prescribed me an excercise routine there, but whenever he sees me he literally tried as hard as he can to avoid looking at me so I don't ingage in any type of discussion about it, makes you feel like you got some sort of disease or something. For 60£ a month... it's not really an ideal gym. Again, the girls at reception, 10/10, incredible, but there are also some bad things, machines not working, pool dirty, sauna barely heats on...equipment is left out all over the gym floor and can cause accidents.
Negative experience: I have been going to Bannatyne for over 10 years off and on. It is getting worse. Cold Jacuzzis, a long time for repairs, shower soap runs out, and no one checks in a timely manner. It's tied . Toilets are always blocked in one way or the other. It needs regular checks.
Positive experience: Came on a spa day through wowcher, have to say I was really disappointed. It really shouldn’t be advertised as a spa day because it’s just a leisure centre with treatments. The pool was murky and the facilities run down, kids swimming lessons taking place just wasn’t relaxing. The photos you see on the advertisement are nothing at all like you get it’s so so basic. The showers don’t work properly they’re freezing cold then go hot then freezing again. It would have been 1* but the facial was nice and the hot beds were ok. Massage wasn’t really a massage it was more a rub down even after I asked for more pressure and our treatment time was supposed to be 45 minutes and we got 35. I will say also, you make it very awkward when you send fully clothed people into the relaxation room before their massage. We were all half naked in our bathing clothes when people were coming in to sit down we all felt very awkward I would suggest using the sofas at the spa reception for people to wait that are fully clothed
Negative experience: This place is a disgrace ! Ceilings falling to bits , staff useless ! Warning don’t go for a spa there is one lane open to swim ! Its dirty water is cold ! Massage well the beautician was 10 mins late , then left us on the beauty bed for ten mins . She sneezed all over me while doing the massage ! 45 min massage ended up 25 min massage it was very rushed .-then as I was leaving they was talking about how bad my back was amongst there self ! Not professional at all beware you to walk through the cafe and near exit to go for the massage , cafe was packed and workmen. ( felt a right idiot ) …. Wouldn’t recommend everyone on the spa that day said the same …
Negative experience: Joined the gym as a treat as it has spa facilities I was hoping I'd use to relax and unwind after a class. I have used the facilities twice as the pool and jacuzzi are cold, changing rooms absolutely manky, and showers so poor I had to rinse the shampoo out of my hair when I got home! The gym was great when I first joined, but now they block out so many machines for "energy saving" reasons (even at peak times) that it's often a struggle to get on what you need to! The only saving grace stopping this being 1 star was the classes......but these have now become a nightmare to book, increasingly virtual and not considered for popular vs not popular. Don't waste your money thinking you're getting a luxury health club, quite the opposite.....and prices have recently gone up!
Negative experience: No the best experience for a gift. The Massage and facial was lovely tho. But the pool and steam sauna was not good. No cafe as work was been done had to get a berger king. Not healthy they need to up there game. Nice friendly staff.
Negative experience: Save your money and go to your local council gym. You'll get a cleaner gym, changing rooms and warmer sauna. The changing rooms are dirty, showers are cold and leak so they spray everywhere. The floor has hairs and moulting socks. DEFINITELY BRING FLIP FLOPS or you'll get a foot infection. Some of the lockers won't lock, some are damaged and won't even close. Not worth the £42+ per month. As for the gym, half of the machines are "saving power for the environment" even during peak times so it's hard to get treadmills. I moved from Pure gym, thinking I'd treat myself to a nice gym for the price with sauna and jaccuzi.. not knowing that they'd be turned off half of the time and the other half of the time they're turned down so you're shivering in the sauna. I should have gone elsewhere, but I'm locked into a year contract.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly atmosphere. My husband and I had a warm wax massage and a facial. It was lovely and relaxing in a calming treatment room. There is also a relaxing room to relax whilst awaiting and after your treatment. We then went for a swim, sauna and steam room. Excellent day - thank you.
Fantastic experience: Arrived early to a warm friendly welcome, lovely staff, shown round all the facilities, and used them all before having a fabulous lunch in the spotlessly clean and comfortable lounge area, then had the best facial and full body massage by Hayley,Had lots of facials but that was by far the best, Thank you Hayley,My friend had the same treatment with Roxanne and was equally impressed, it was a fabulous day, And made my friends 70th birthday really special.Thank you to all the staff there, and especially Hayley and Roxanne.
Positive experience: Went on a spa day so thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything clean and tidy. Cafe served nice food at a reasonable price.
Positive experience: The spa is calm, clean and well laid out. The treatment room was lovely and the whole massage experience was fantastic. All the other facilities were just as good. The only downside was the cafe. The machine didn't provide for decaf or any milk alternatives. Decaf coffee was on offer in the form of instant coffee. No vegan snacks and only one gluten free. Disappointed with the Starbucks offering in this place.
Negative experience: Avoid this company, absolutely joke, they are want to extort money, be aware, now I owe 116£ for absolutely nothing, I send message by them website and make call to cancel my membership, lady said it's fine she done it, after month they are want another 57£. To be clear I sign 3 months contract and I don't wanna pay for 4th and 5th month. Second thing is quality of this gym, this is another joke, dirty, drinking water stinks, no lifeguard on pool, sauna on low temperature, broken showers, broken lockers. Just 57£ and you will struggle with cancellation after you fulfill the contract. Good luck
Negative experience: Very poor standards, showers always broken , gym equipment missing , this is no better than your cheaper commercial gyms. it's very small and unless they step there game up its not worth £45 a month. Due to gym having occasional missing or damaged equipment and being probably one of smallest gyms I've seen these two combined make peak hours borderline soul destroying
Negative experience: Had a few disappointments with the overall presentation of the gym in the last few months (mainly from a cleanliness point or poor maintenance on small things) but today has topped them all, 7 machines turned off to 'conserve energy' when I asked about these I was told they won't be turned on even during peak times. The temp of the pool and jacuzzi have also been turned down... You advertise as a gym with a spa but this is less than substandard with a high membership fee. I'm really disappointed
Fantastic experience: Went Friday 5th August on a Wowcher spa day. Had a lovely day. Had 3 spa treatments by Nichole she was very professional and very good felt amazing after. Thank you
Negative experience: BE AWARE! If you are expecting "premium" facilities to match the "premium" price tag then this health club is not for you. As per other reviews, the site is extremely tired and seriously lacking in investment. Changing rooms - Numerous lockers broken, left unfixed and only half of the hairdryers working. A large number of floor/wall tiles are cracked and some of the ceiling tiles have fallen through. The cleanliness is shocking and the showers themselves leak water through failing pipes. Poolside - Currently 2 out of 3 shows are faulty. Management have advised they're awaiting parts but this has now been weeks. Cleanliness again isn't good and the chance of seeing a cleaner is very slim. The pool was shut for 5 days recently. Gym - This is probably the best part of the site although when a machine does fail it takes a long time to be addressed. Membership/Customer Service - APPALLING. BEWARE! I've just cancelled my membership following the correct process and was then told I owe an extra month as they have a 30 days notice policy. This was never explained and given the facilities are not fit for purpose I don't feel this is fair. Unfortunately the unreasonable staff at Bannatyne don't agree. Do yourself a favour and look at alternative health clubs.
Fantastic experience: Loved the spa day Enjoyed the massage and lunch was good too .. they also serve Starbucks coffee
Fantastic experience: Great for an early morning swim very welcoming
Positive experience: Went for a spa and gym/swim. Very friendly. Easy parking. Good facilities
Negative experience: If you not a regular here I definitely wouldn't go for a spa day as they are not friendly at all. I took my niece for a relaxing spa day who is 32 weeks pregnant and all the lady's that was in the pool just none stop give us lip over where we was aloud to stand and be in pool, never known so many rude lady's in one place! We lasted a hour before we got changed and when home very disappointed .
