Our comment from FitFit UK about Stretford Sports Village, Chester Centre:
Stretford Sports Village is a well-facilitated sports center located in Manchester, UK, known for its lovely swimming pool, friendly staff, and family-friendly amenities. Visitors have highlighted the great experience they have had while swimming, particularly enjoying the family changing rooms which make it easier for parents with young children.
Key features include:
- Spacious swimming pool and a smaller pool for toddlers
- Variety of sports facilities including gym and badminton courts
- Friendly and helpful staff that enhance the overall experience
- Amply parking space available
Despite its strengths, some guests have mentioned that the center is in need of a refurbishment, with various facilities showing signs of wear and tear. The changing rooms have specifically been noted as needing attention, as they appear old and poorly maintained. While the café is currently closed, the overall atmosphere remains welcoming, making it a great place for leisure activities.
Many users appreciate the aqua classes and children’s swimming lessons, though some have expressed concerns regarding the organization of swim sessions and the condition of certain facilities. Overall, Stretford Sports Village offers a good mix of activities, and many are hopeful for future improvements.
Stretford Sports Village, Chester Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: Lovely pool, friendly staff. Pity the café isn't open, I guess they're running on a right budget but these are the places we need most. Go and enjoy it, help it make it through the night!
Positive experience: Always had a good experience lane swimming but very disappointed that Saturday morning lane swims seem to have disappeared and Tuesday afternoon cut to 35 minutes.
Positive experience: Great place for swimming and Tiny Teds with my little one. LOVE the family changing rooms - we come here for those as it's so much easier than Urmston and Sale pools if you have a baby. It is a bit tired and needs some TLC, but it's not that bad really, and we're really glad to have this nearby.
Positive experience: A good sport centre with a pool, gym and sports halls. A little bit tired and ready for a refurb, but still good for a game of 5 a side or badminton.
Fantastic experience: Great place for sports
Positive experience: I went swimming here this place is in desperate need of a refurb, it's functionally, but its in poor condition. Let's hope the local government step up.
Negative experience: I’ve been to see my nephew having intensive swimming lessons here the last 2 weeks - last week the instructor David was brilliant and my nephew felt he started to improve and loved the feedback and coaching through the session. Today the session was terrible, the instructor Amy was disinterested and the kids clearly were not getting any guidance…after which my nephew really doesn’t want to go back. Would not recommend unless you know who the instructor will be.
Positive experience: Staff are very friendly, it is very run down, and changing rooms look quite dirty. I’ve been going to the small pool as I’m not a confident swimmer yet, but it is full of kids throwing stuff at you, with parents not giving a damn, not the staff’s fault but I do think staff need to remind that people come to swim too, it’s not just a kids playground.
Positive experience: It's okay
Negative experience: We play football every Sunday here in the Sports hall. leaks from the roof, pitch not always set up upon arrival, staff disinterested and do not engage with us. Agreement in place in writing for a year for our time slot. We arrive and our slot has been taken up by another booking when we have had confirmation of ours and no notification of cancellation.
Fantastic experience: Great place to play various sports.
Positive experience: This sport centre has ampble parking space. With squash court and badminton courts, very busy at night time at night time.
Fantastic experience: It is a very good place to get your kids to any of the sports they like
Negative experience: the swimming lessons bookings system is so bad. you can’t distinguish the kids from adult lessons
Negative experience: staff great. Site is bobbins. Difficult and doesn't give clear direction. All it wants to do is get you to sign up for membership. Very dissatisfied with Trafford Leisure
Negative experience: Sort your website out, it takes years off me every time I TRY to use it. It's beyond useless Glasdstonego should be embarrassed.
Positive experience: The pool is good and not too busy so that gets three stars. Unfortunately I can't use the gym as you have to book a 50 min orientation before you use it but all the slots are during the working day will have to cancel membership due to not being able to use half the facilities, ridiculous!
Positive experience: I like these swimming baths and gym but the place has seen better days and is getting a refurb soon. Still worth going though. The lessons were very good when my children were learning some years ago.
Fantastic experience: My son had his first swimming lesson today. The staff were amazing and paid extra care of him and supported him (the girls in the water with the kids were so amazing).
Positive experience: Friendly staff. Good pool not too cold. The changing rooms are in need of refurb, but I think it's already on the cards after Alti and Sale.
Positive experience: Nice large swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Lots of badminton courts, good place.
Fantastic experience: Roller skating is fun Fridays and Saturdays come along
Positive experience: Good place great facilities but the place is a quite outdated could do with a refurb for sure.
Positive experience: Does anyone remember when you could just go for a swim? Like turn up, pay and go in. Now you have to book in advance a 45 min session and youll be lucky if you can find one. Too many different types of swim session trying to meet too many different needs means no ones happy.
Positive experience: Visited for the first time on Saturday afternoon with my six-year-old to use the main pool. It's true that the place is ready for a refurb, but we were really happy here. The staff were friendly and helpful, the pool is a proper 25 metre length, and I appreciated the marginally cooler water as I find most pools too hot. Neither of us had any issues swimming for almost an hour. Though we didn't use it, the smaller pool is still a very decent size and apparently kept warmer for younger swimmers. It might be handy to know that the café appears to have closed some time ago, so bring your own brew if you're spectating! Also, male changing is the classic open bench layout, so bear that in mind if you're bringing a mixed group. There may be family changing, I didn't happen to ask. Seventies décor may not be to everyone's taste, but I think it's great. Overall I found it to be a relaxed place to visit with a lovely pool and we'll definitely be back.
Negative experience: I have been a member of this leisure centre since 2017 and since then, the facilities, looks and changing rooms still look old.
Fantastic experience: Staff are very friendly and helpful. Gym is excellent.
Positive experience: Love the Aqua class on Thursday mornings The majority of the staff are lovely and helpful
Fantastic experience: first time been to aqua aerobics, loved it, sane again tomorrow
Fantastic experience: Very good place
Positive experience: Has all the basic leisure centre facilities, but is dated and tired. It needs a refurbishment like MossSide etc
Positive experience: it’s fine for a bit of a swim but in dire need of renovation
Fantastic experience: Great kids swimming lessons they taught my daughter to swim in only a few lessons
Fantastic experience: Great Abbs class with Sean.Well worth a visit
Fantastic experience: A very welcoming place with a range of facilities.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this place my kids loved it and we will be back again many times , cheers matey
Positive experience: It is OK. Looks decent but pretty old building serves the purpose.
Positive experience: It's OK ..kids love it but it needs some investment
Positive experience: Happy with the process and the new showers, not happy about a lady speed swimming all directs in the slow lane. Shame as ladies got out due to this very inconsiderate swimmer.
Fantastic experience: Loved Pump class tonight, Great Instructor!
Positive experience: Great swim, feel so safe, changing rooms very clean, staff welcoming
Negative experience: Poor service, arrogant staff.
Fantastic experience: Great set up for family swim and keeping everyone distanced
Fantastic experience: Well managed, good facilities, helpful staff
Positive experience: This is the best place to swim
Positive experience: Excellent considering the restrictions
Fantastic experience: Fab spin class this morning. First one I've done since the gyms have reopened. Feeling it already. Can't wait for the next class.
Positive experience: Amazing leisure center nice clean large pool good warm kids pool. Both pools are very clean and warm. The gym is cleaned and very great for losing weight my kids really like it there but the boys changing room are abit to public and my children get a bit uncomfortable nice staff nice food nice cold drinks very good party's and cleansiness definitely recommended for a good local pool/gym
Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff make a great place
Negative experience: Seriously needs a revamp!
Positive experience: First impression clean and modern. Shame about the changing rooms. Shabby, cold and awful showers that barely work. Cafe upstairs serve quite a good selection of hit and cold meals reasonably priced.
Fantastic experience: Good lesure centre
Negative experience: Dirty grubby changing rooms with stains on the ceiling, walls and floor. Dirty pool with tiles fallen off. Needs a good deep clean.
Fantastic experience: Great tidy building and staff I used it on n off for about 20 years
Fantastic experience: Best
Positive experience: Very good Leisure Centre very adaptable very good customer service Ernest Sidebottom
Positive experience: Building needs updating, a complete overhaul. Gym price very expensive, considering the gym is really small
Positive experience: It’s alright. Quite run down and needs a cash injection. Pool is a good size but the changing rooms are poor. The sports hall isn’t too bad. Was always on the down after the library went here. Staff are always really friendly here. The cafe is ok but the gym isn’t the best.
Positive experience: It's a tad run down, but the staff are lovely, and there's a really friendly atmosphere. The children's swimming lessons are very good. The gym is rarely overcrowded, and there are no 'roid heads acting like they own the place. It's just a shame that they no longer have squash courts.
Negative experience: Came to a swimming gala here. The facility is functional but has definitely seen better days. It looks very aged and a lot of the facilities are in need of repair. The spectator gallery is far too small. Not the worst but could do with a lot of money spending on it to bring it into modern times.
Positive experience: Changing rooms need to be refurbished. The toddler pool is nice and warm, but nothing to interact with.
Fantastic experience: Good fun.
Negative experience: If you don't have a foot disease going in, you certainly will when you leave. It's not been cleaned in years.
Positive experience: It's OK.. Pool is decent size.. Mixed changing rooms with lockers.. The sports hall and gym are OK.. Buts it's missing a steam/sauna area..
Fantastic experience: Staff is outstanding and facilities are good.
Positive experience: Has ladies only gym and swimming. Staff are all really nice. Could be cleaner though
Fantastic experience: Had a good round of badminton here, enjoyed myself. Nice venue with car parking facility.
Positive experience: Reasonable facilities, clean but as always cafe not open etc
Negative experience: Not modern. Very dated. Same as 20 years ago
Negative experience: Need new building
Positive experience: At least the small pool is warm changing rooms not great Large pool freezing
Negative experience: They need fix the hairdryer
Fantastic experience: Staff are friendly. Relaxed vibe here.
Fantastic experience: Grandkids love it here, roller skating is one of their favourites
Negative experience: Changing rooms reminded me of the gym scenes in the film kes. Never had to queue after changing to get in the pool. If anyone is considered making a film on the early life of Duncan Goodhew this would be the perfect set .
Positive experience: Staff very good and helpful but in desperate need of a refurb, definitely the toilets.
Negative experience: Disabled push button auto doors Not working, report given 3wks ago, no joy!! - the place must be closing down - poor show Stretford leisure centre!!!
Positive experience: Pretty standard old school leisure centre. Has nice, cheap toddler group late morning
Negative experience: Ive been 4 weeks in a row to take the kids swimming and not managed to get into the pool yet. I have been told ive arrived too early one day and was advised i could try the play room upstairs which the kids enjoyed so missed out on a swim. Then arrived at 10.30 3 weeks in a row to be told its fully booked and i can wait but they wont put your name on a list so by the time you keep popping to the desk they have let others in not coming again. Urmston baths are more organised and have a turnover system so everyone gets a turn much better place to go
Fantastic experience: Great place
Positive experience: In need of a facelift and modernising however still a good facility with well maintained areas and friendly staff.
Negative experience: parking is horrendous
Negative experience: Say no more
Negative experience: The road leading into the car park and the car park is full of pot holes, about 15 light bulbs out in the squash courts, so dark.
Positive experience: Good pool and facilities
Positive experience: Friendly staff, decent pool and other facilities, but gym is very run down. Very old and limited equipment, but on a plus side it's quiet most of the time. Not a good value for money overall though.
Fantastic experience: Great cafeteria staff 1
Positive experience: Nice place
Negative experience: Can't contact them for some simple information: no one answers the phone and when I tried to contact them via email on their website, it doesn't work either.
Fantastic experience: Clean place friendly staff
Positive experience: Great classes monthly membership is fantastic value for everything Zest offers can't fault it
Positive experience: Good service but the place is a bit run down.
Fantastic experience: My daughter go their for swimming and she loved her trainer(lucy). Alway going on about how amazing her methods are.
Negative experience: Dirty
Positive experience: This place is very nice.!!
Positive experience: Its a good place for indoor cricket, thats all
Negative experience: We lost 6 shuttlecocks to the low hanging roof
