Fantastic experience: Great centre, with a lovely pool. Gym has something for all fitness levels. The team are really friendly and keep everything super clean.

Fantastic experience: Our first time visiting and wow what a lovely pool. The kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Staff were all very friendly, all very clean, little pool was so much fun with balls and floats and even swimming aids. Male and female lockers were all together which made life so much easier with 2 young children and a baby. Definitely found our go to pool now and reasonably priced for an hour. Twins can’t wait to go back next week.

Thank you for for such a nice review. We are glad to hear that the facilities were to a good standard and that you enjoyed your session. Hopefully your future sessions will be as good.

Hi Marianne, Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately the temperature of the changing rooms with not within our control however, whenever you are next on site, and you feel the changing rooms are below cleaning standard, please let a member of staff know so that we may rectify this. Best wishes Nadine

Negative experience: My child has been having swimming lessons since November. Their record has not been updated since February, and my child is obviously bored now and has very much gained confidence and ability. However, they cannot move up from stage 1 because the instructor appears to be refusing to update my childs record. 3 weeks I have been battling them to do this. Finally spoken with "the aquatics manager" who appears to have no idea of how to manage staff, or any customer service skills. My child is not the only one in that group who is not progressing to the next stage, when they should be. After asking said manager for their managers contact details I appear to now be being ghosted by them too. Due to other commitments we are unable to change to a different stage 1 group, so my child can actually move forward, otherwise I would do this. It is very frustrating, and is soul destroying to see a child wanting to progress and needing to move up a group, but the centre seems to think it's OK to take money and not progress them when they are ready. Even worse when your child doesn't want to attend lessons because they're bored. Also the changing rooms and showers could do with a better clean, and older boys/younger teenage boys (and their parents) need to be reminded more that it's inappropriate for them to be in the women's changing rooms.

We are sorry to hear of your difficulties. The "Aquatics Manager" that you communicated with had just finished his shift when he spoke to you yesterday and is now back in work to respond. They will be continuing the conversation as soon as they are available to do so during this shift. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Fantastic experience: Gym and Swim available here. Staff are always kind and welcoming. Changing rooms are cleaned regularly and it even smells clean when you walk in too. Gym has a good variety of equipment from Cardio machines to free weights and a Smith Machine too. Copious amounts of parking available and the vending machines aren't overpriced either. Monthly prices for the gym and swim are reasonable, giving you access at any time to the Gym and selected times for the pool.

Positive experience: The team are really friendly and helpful, they keep everything spotlessly clean. If it had a bigger gym and studio for classes it would be perfect.

Fantastic experience: Good for children and swimming lessons.

Nimal Patel 1 year ago

Positive experience: Was expecting better from this gym. Reasonable price depending on if you want to pay yearly or monthly. Personal trainers are available but vary on sessions, £12 I believe was the basic price. The gym itself, is very small and packed. Went at around 1530 and all the cardio machines were taken. Some of the weight machines were taken as well, but I wanted to do a quick cardio workout. Feels like you’re rubbing shoulders with everyone. Eventually got an elliptical machine, which was found to be rusty and dirty inbetween the joins. There is One roll of paper towels and One tub of wet wipes for the whole gym, this should be available around the gym. No public WiFi so couldn’t stream my playlist as I didn’t have strong enough phone signal. There is music playing in the gym, but if you want to listen to your own music and have poor signal, I suggest downloading your playlist prior to attending the gym. Because of no WiFi and poor phone signal, I couldn’t download either of the fitness apps. Once again, I expected a lot better for a council gym with better machines and equipment, there is plenty of wasted space in front of the gym that could be used to expand the gym and introduce newer equipment to keep up with the busier times and bring it upto date. This is probably the cheapest gym in the area compared to other gyms and it shows. Will try another day and time and see how busy/quiet it is, but long term, I may likely will be cancelling my membership. Have been a member of the dudley council gym, and despite its redevelopment you’d think other council gyms would follow suit.

Hi Nimal, Thank you for your honest review. I am disappointed to hear that you were not entirely happy with your experience today. One thing I must point out is that we are not a council run gym. We will take on board your comments and will ensure that the elliptical machine is looked at. The time that you attended today was uncharacteristically busy, with the gym not normally getting as full until later in the evening - typically around 6pm. Our gym is very popular, however please try a session between 9am - 3pm if your schedule allows as this tends to be our quietest time. We do have public WiFi, the password for which is available at reception and at various points around the building. If you have any further feedback, we would be happy to discuss this with you. Please have a chat with reception and we can answer any questions or concerns you may have. I hope your next visit is more positive. Kind regards, Market Drayton Swimming & Fitness Centre

Negative experience: Very unhappy with my visit today was made to feel very uncomfortable by the manager of the pool as he had decided my daughter couldn't swim as a mother I wouldn't let my daughter go down the deep end If she couldn't swim this resulted in her being put off swimming and left in tears took alot for her go today and now doesn't want to go bk

Hi Warren, I’m very disappointed to hear about your experience. Please get in touch via our website with your contact details and we will try to ascertain why this has happened. If a membership has been cancelled correctly, there should be no further communications, especially from a debt collection agency. Kind regards, Market Drayton Swimming & Fitness Centre

Fantastic experience: Came for a swim for 2 adults on a Saturday afternoon for lane swimming Friendly staff, clean and well appointed facilities. Clean pool and good temperature. Not too busy. A little pricey at £6.25 each but if that's the cost of keeping it open then so be it!

Negative experience: Terrible customer service with gym membership you cannot cancel! 15 days absolutely no reply, cancel the direct debit reply within minutes!

Negative experience: Awful gym, air con wasn’t on so all working out in one sweaty room with machines that are rusty and old. Limited pins for weights for the machines and missing equipment so can’t do full workout. Body trax machine doesn’t work (tried 4 times). It’s like the gym hasn’t been invested in for 10 years. Paid £8.25 for one session. Over priced for a limited very basic gym.

Negative experience: DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE FOR SWIMMING LESSONS - they constantly cancel the lessons and do not give you your money back for them!! I have now had 6 lessons cancelled, and they expected me to use the “credit” they put on my account in the shop - £45 is a lot to spend on ice creams and over expensive swimwear/goggles!! Complete joke!!!

Negative experience: I learnt to swim in this pool, attended school swimming lessons here, spent all my summers as a teenager in the beautiful outdoor pool/grounds and went on to swim for my county... unfortunately I will be attending a different pool in future. The facilities are still ok, occasionally rather dirty and smelly but understandable with staff shortages. Sadly there is one employee that really lets the center down. On arrival to the pool, she can often be heard gossiping about customers and fellow employees. I find this upsetting at a time when staff are undervalued and customers crucial in these difficult financial times. It can be heard in the changing rooms and really creates a hostile environment and unpleasant way to start the morning. I often arrive at the later end of a session as it's quieter and I am currently in sprint training where I need use of a lane (which are often overcrowded) for 15-20 mins and then I am done. Unfortunately on multiple occasions this has been made impossible as this same employee has persistently told me I cannot enter the pool late in a session. There are very few sessions I can attend at the pool due to work/life commitments and even fewer are available due to the strict timetable for public/ lane sessions. I can't see anything in the terms and conditions online about when you can and can't enter the pool within a session. I am not a confrontational person and often feel as though I am being interrogated upon arrival by this one employee who seems to be obsessed with following a rule book nobody else has access to. It is this overly controlling nature and the toxic gossiping first thing in the morning that will keep me from attending the pool again after 30 years.

Negative experience: Poor swimming pool with little to no effort put in a lack of communication and real effort. Disorganised and no real team leader.. coaches are quite and awkward, spoilt members with bad personalities if they don't like you mummy will get you kicked off honestly find somewhere else if you ate serious about swimming,it's not good at all..they make no effort and do the same stuff day after day, such a shame..wish I could get the chance to make something of the team..I'd get them committed and engaged as a team and individually.. everyone getting chance to excel and shine by working on weaknesses and areas that could do with improving and making it second nature :)

Positive experience: My son loves going to his swimming lessons, the swimming instructor is lovely. The learner pool can be on the cool side at times though.

Ellis Chris 3 years ago

Negative experience: Phoned to ask when I could take my 9 year old swimming. Arrived at the advised time only to be told it was adult lane swimming only!

Steve Barnard 3 years ago

Negative experience: We waited patiently through the pandemic for our child to enjoy swimming lessons at his local pool, how disappointed we were. The childrens pool is freezing and completely unsuitable, my boy would shiver, cry and his lips would turn blue. When we complained, several times, we were just told a multitude of excuses from 'it's not working this week' or 'it's within normal range'. It's not normal for a child's lips to turn blue in a supposedly heated swimming pool! And to top it all off when we stopped our lessons and direct debit we were threatened with court action to pay a bill for a time period after we cancelled. Terrible, terrible place, go Nantwich instead

Positive experience: Pool is always clean and feels about the right temperature for lane swimming (50 Yr old male). 06.30 opening works well for training before work. Showers are good and always warm (would be nice to have some where you can vary the temp for a colder one to finish) I've given it four stars because I'm sure there are private gyms with more expensive facilities but it's perfectly adequate for a municipal club and annual membership is good value if you go once a week or more. Covid restrictions limiting sessions to 45mins have now been lifted.

Julie Pugh 4 years ago

Negative experience: Beware almost impossible to cancel membership. Will take money for years afterwards. Jenny who deals with cancellations is always at another site but when you ring that one she is somewhere else. Run by Serco who have been in the news for fraudulent behaviour a number of times in recent years. Beware

Negative experience: Today I took my son swimming - the place was busy, as over half the people from the fitness class running the session before didn't leave the pool. So we picked the medium-speed lane, and because my son is a far slower swimmer than me, we didn't swim in circles, we swam up and down next to each other - crossing paths once per length. We followed the exact same routine yesterday, in front of the exact same jobsworth pool attendants - who yesterday said nothing. However, today attendant #1 decided to stop us to request that we swim in circles, and when I said my son was much slower than me, advised I should keep overtaking him. The question of how passing him once per length differed from overtaking him once every length was met with a vacant stare. This was clearly way too challenging a question... So I spoke to attendant #2, the guy in charge poolside, who said it was fine for us to continue going in lines, as, as I pointed out, my son couldn't move to the slow-speed lane where he could go in circles at their pace, because it was occupied by two old women....you guessed it, swimming in lines. And who none of the attendants bothered speaking to. He also couldn't go in the main non-laned part of the pool, as it was full of (presumably non-paying) people who hadn't got out at the end of their previous fitness class. So we continue, but 15 minutes later, attendant #3 wakes up from their dream world and decides they too are going to tell us we need to swim in circles only, but once again doesn't bother saying anything to the old ladies in the slow lane (both of whom just stayed behind following the fitness class, so presumably hadn't even paid to be there). So I speak to #2 again as it's all getting very tiresome, but he now decides we have to go in circles because of 'covid rules'. Even though I live with the child I'm swimming next to... Even though we shared a car on the way to the pool... Even though we got changed in the same family changing enclosure... Even though the two old ladies next to me were't being asked to swim in circles... Even though in the child's pool there are no social distancing measures whatsoever... Literally wasting breath talking to these computer-says-no jobsworths, whose sole purpose seems to be to antagonise customers, whilst otherwise stood around gossiping with one another and loudly complaining about their jobs, shifts, social lives, etc.
