Negative experience: Been a member for years, it's cheap and mostly broken. You get what you pay for and it feels like it will soon close down. The only reason for me to stay is the vicinity to home and the fact it's now empty most of the time....
Negative experience: Disgusting gym! Expect it to be closed soon. Too many problems to list in my short time as a member. Can't imagine how bad its been for long term members. Facilities are disgraceful from top to bottom. Membership cancelled.
Negative experience: Do not join this gym. The gym is worn down with almost all of the machines being damaged and unusable. The ceiling is constantly leaking on to the free weight section and there has not been any hot water for months. Whatever the money is being used for from the members it is not to fix the gym, the staff are friendly but obviously working in terrible conditions.
Negative experience: It was a really good gym, big enough and plenty of classes and equipment. But in the last months is started to fall apart: broken equipment nor repaired, showers with cold water only, rain leaking here and there from the roof and worse than the worst the trainers run away for not being paid. I even found people praying in the changing rooms....but this is another story.
Negative experience: A real shame, been a member since it opened and the gym has been left to be in disrepair and the owner doesn’t pay staff or the bills. The staff are great but I don’t blame the ones that have left for doing so, they work hard but they are not paid on time and the equipment is left broken. The gym has great members who have a real community but it is broken due to lack of care. New owner needed or it will be closed but 2024, worse than the Glazers.

Negative experience: This used to be a great gym, until the new owner took over. Since then, he has only been interested in his own personal financial gains, with a complete disregard for the welfare of the gym staff, gym members & maintenance of the gym itself ... *Machines are broken & not being repaired. *Roof leaks during wet weather. Not repaired. *Air con broken for quite a considerable length of time. Not repaired. *No heating & no hot water, because the bills haven't been paid. *Staff are leaving because he's not been paying their wages. ... This is no way to run a business !!! This gym needs a new professional owner, one who actually cares about the business, the staff & the paying gym members.
Negative experience: Used to be at energy Wilmslow where Lidl’s is now and moved over here with my PT. So I have been a member for a long time. (5 years) It was ok for a few years but then started going down hill. Machines were broken, not being fixed. When it rained it leaked through into the gym and buckets were put everywhere. Still does now. Heaters don’t work so now freezing and air con not working in summer. No hot water for showers or to wash your hands. The owner has seem to of cared less and less about his business lately. Cobwebs everywhere between machines that work! Noticed staff have been leaving and the gym has been struggling to open certain hours as staff shortages. It’s such a shame as the staff are great and it used to be a great gym. Just a shame the owner can’t invest in his own business or his staff. Sadly myself and my PT have had enough so we are leaving to go to a gym where the company actually invests in the staff equipment and building! Don’t bother if your thinking of joining as the place will prob be shut down in a month or so!
Fantastic experience: Been a member for many years, cracking staff and it’s like being part of a family! Got a big circle of training partners and friends there! The gym itself isn’t perfect and there’s many things you could complain about just like many of the reviews you see below. I only came on this review page by mistake but I thought I’d share my 2 cents and that’s if you don’t like it then please use the big doors by the front desk and don’t come back because your just hindering the people that love training there….

Negative experience: I joined the gym in early August and cancelled before the end of August. The gym is very quiet which is great, even at 17:00 on the weekday. Toilets have been refurbed which is good. Unfortunately, the maintenance of the gym is very poor. Numerous lockers have broken locks, various cardio equipment are broken with no 'out of order' signs, lots of dust on the equipment, the equipment is tired with pads needing re-covering and the aircon doesn't work. The staff are friendly but the owner is not present or engaged. Yes it's a budget gym, but for the same price you can go to The Gym Group down the road. This place needs significant investment to be acceptable.
Negative experience: Dreadful place. I have been a member of the gym for a very long time. The facilities have declined in quality and it is now a health and safety hazard: roof has been leaking for years, air conditioning isn't being used to safe money so it is stinking hot in summer and freezing cold in winter, dirty and dusty, female showers and changing area are still disgussting even after refurb, equipment is ouitdated. The only reason I stayed this long is because it was on my door step. Well, time to move on.
Fantastic experience: Front desk are always helpful. Equipment is varied and spaced out well, range of dumbells is great with duplicates in the popular weight ranges. Gym members seem friendly enough and follow gym etiquette

Negative experience: An absolute joke of gym which is ran and owned by complete idiots who are more interested in gossiping as opposed to actually doing their jobs correctly and effectively. More often than not there’s no staff presence. I had the unfortunate pleasure of having a few free passes. After my first free visit I spoke to Rob and Jenna and expressed my concerns as I was looking to join a new gym. They said all the right things (the gym was being upgraded, repaired etc). So I thought I’ll leave it for a month or so to see. Upon my return a month later nothing had changed and no staff members were present. So I went back another month later and it was STILL the same. So basically the “management” are experts at providing lip service full stop. Other members that are friends of mine have confirmed this repeatedly but continue to go as they only pay £15 a month but agree the staff are a waste of time. Any doubters should simply go take a look for yourself! The equipment is old, tired and often broke/out of use. The toilets stink and again are often broke/out of use as are the showers. The roof has been leaking for years and the so called owner chooses to do nothing about it. The same applies to the air conditioning as in there isn’t any! There’s rarely any music on and overall the atmosphere is atrocious and cold, just like it’s “management”. From the names of the other people that have provided positive reviews on here, I can confirm that most of them are ex staff members or there about. Which reminds me - the very high turnover of staff that they have also tells you everything about the “management”. It’s no wonder that they keep begging people to join through extensive advertising on social media as they are constantly losing clients (I’m one of them). The “management” continually lie to their clients too with regards to upgrades and fixing their long standing issues which never actually happen! They were meant to have an upgrade recently which “started” months ago but guess what, nothings changed at all! How anyone would want to go there or work there is completely beyond me but then again knowing the “management “ I would strongly suspect that they wouldn’t be able to find other sources of employment as they are spineless, useless robots who evidently have no pride whatsoever! Fantastic experience: The gym is packed with equipment and if you go at a reasonable time then you can always use what you need. The facilities (showers toilets etc) are absolute pants but a) I don't use them so it has never bothered me and b) it's £20 a month which for the amount of equipment alone in is unbelievable so never expected David Lloyd changing rooms. Plus it's not full of oiled up instagrammers like some other gyms I have been a member of.

Negative experience: The worst gym ever ! I wish I could give them 0 star . They took money from my account, however gym was shut down because of lockdown also I haven’t accessed/used their online classes and they refused to reimburse me. I will keep discouraging absolutely every single person who might consider joining them. Just cancelled my DD so these scammers can’t charge me anymore. Simply avoid this gym!

Negative experience: Do not recommend. Due to the ‘covid’ situation I ended up having two membership, here and at another Energie gym. When gyms reopened the app did not allow multi gym access (which I paid for) as confirmed by Energie head office. They told me this couldn’t be rectified and I had to join which gym I use most which I did and changed gyms. It transpired I’ve been charged for both gyms, Energie head office said this is wrong and I should be refunded by Cheadle as it is not my fault that the app doesn’t accommodate the membership I pay for. After speaking to the sales team they denied I have the WOW membership, then that I should have contacted them about the app and it would have been updated (not true and confirmed by Energie head office) then they stated an email was sent out about the app and this wasn’t true either. The sales team are very confrontational and tell outright lies and conflicting information. I have now gone to my bank to resolve this issue. I really wouldn’t recommend, it seems they will say anything to get your money
Hi Sarah, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. However, we’re afraid you have misrepresented the situation on a number of points. As explained to you by email: - At any time, had you contacted us directly, we could have activated the multi-gym access on your account, for no extra cost. - When our Head Office suggested that you join the other énergie Fitness gym in early August, they informed you that you would need to “speak to the Team at Cheadle and cancel down your contract”. They also advised that the other site would “offer the missed time” “by way of goodwill”. This is clearly shown in the screenshots that you sent to us last month. - At no point have our Head Office advised that you are due a refund from us. As, again, shown by the screenshots you have provided, you were the one who suggested that you might be due a refund. Our Head Office merely advised that you would need to contact us direct to discuss this matter (since they cannot authorise refunds on our behalf). They also reminded you to contact us in order to cancel your membership. This was in late August. - For some reason, despite being advised to contact us to cancel on multiple occasions, you decided to wait two months before getting in touch. When we received your cancellation request (in the second half of October), we processed it promptly and in line with our membership terms and conditions. - You then became upset that we cannot offer a refund to you, to account for your failure to notify us of your desire to cancel in a timely fashion. As you can see from the recent reviews, satisfaction among our members is exceptionally high, with our Customer Service being consistently rated as ‘Good’ or ‘Excellent’ among both members and ex-members. I understand that you are seeking to take this up with your bank. If they require any evidence of your error, please get in touch and we will be happy to provide this to them. Negative experience: I fully agree with the last poor review!! If i could rate this gym a zero then I really would. Most of the staff are shockingly awful, unfriendly, unprofessional, don’t like constructive feedback, have the customer service skills of a crocodile and not really interested when you raise issues (Apart from George who was very good staff member) I had to leave the gym in the end, as raised issues about another members inappropriate conduct with Myself and other members who have also now left. The issues weren't not dealt with effectively given the person was friends of staff members and the issues were simply brushed under the carpet. That aside, the punchball was broken along with other equipment, the roof was leaking all over the gym with buckets dotted about, water machine broken and the men’s changing were constant dirty rooms. In a nutshell, the poor overall gym management probably done my a favour prompting me to leave. Loads of people I know have now left this gym (Including ex staff) based on some of the above issues. I would be really worried about this Gym’s decline as a business owner. I wouldn’t go to this gym if they were giving out free memberships!!
Negative experience: To clarify i went to the wilmslow gym but it shut down, so the customer service was horrible after you signed up the changing room smelled like piss and after the gym closed down they were still charging me money for 2 years till i found out, i even cancelled my membership the way they told me to, which turned out to be a very bad choice (cancel it with your bank). when i tried to talk about it with energie over the phone they would not answer or they would hear me ask for a refund then put me on hold and never pick up again, i finally contacted my bank and they sorted it but energie are now threatening me saying i broke the agreement, and i have to pay them again and a fine for the 2 years of gym membership to the non existing gym.
Hi Liam, this review is on the Cheadle account not the Wilmslow one. Any issues with the club that closed is down to head office and not ourselves. We apologise for this issue you had on behalf of them but unfortunately as this is not our club we cannot assist.
Negative experience: No hot water, countless broken treadmills, no heating and no staff. Place has gone downhill rapidly and long term staff members have left due to how it’s being ran into the ground. Only open for a few hours at the weekend due to ‘unforeseen staffing issues’ ie no one wants to work here.

Negative experience: Run down and shabby. Needs a lot of money spent to bring it up to scratch which I doubt will happen with a fabulous TheGym around the corner for the same price. Had 7 buckets due to the leaking roof, air stank of dampness and sweat - toilets and showers are awfully smelly. The equipment is old. The staff are friendly hence the two stars.
Hi Cheshire IT, We are sorry you feel this way, we have just had our roof refurbished recently it was just delayed due to the bad weather we have had over the winter. We are also about to add new equipment to our facilities in the next few weeks and get our showers refurbished. Hopefully once done you could pop down on a free guest pass and see what you think. :)
Negative experience: SCAMMERS! - This is possibly the worst gym ever, in EVERY sense. They harass, chase and threaten you with emails and letters claiming you owe them money long after you have cancelled your gym membership and have stopped attending. I joined for two months (NO CONTRACT) and cancelled because of the awful and old equipments and the state of the gym overall. Since then I have been harassed, threatened and bombarded with letters claiming I owe them money. I will take legal action against this gym, I have never experienced such awful customer service in my life. SCAMMERS! Stay away. UPDATE: 1. I was NOT told by your colleagues that it was a 12 month contract. It was a pay as you go membership and I do not remember having a “free” membership, at all. I paid the full amounts for the two months that I used your gym for. Please next time tell your colleagues to do a better job rather than leaving customers confused, baffled and badly informed. There are many reviews on your pages of ex members and members having the same problems when wanting to leave your gym or cancel their membership. 2. I stopped because I was in fact moving and the gym overall wasn’t the best in its equipment and the gym was in fact within poor maintenance, that makes it two main reasons as to why I cancelled my membership If your gym was up to standards I think I would decided to come back. 3. I NEVER EVER chose to recommend you to a friend, please inform me this friends name? Because I don’t remember doing so, at all. That’s a blatant lie and with how your company harasses people I am least surprised that you are accusing me of doing something I haven’t done so. 4. I have no problem paying for your gyms membership, currently I am paying twice as much to a gym that I am currently attending than I would have paid to your gym, so please, stop accusing me of me “of enjoying a free months membership” 5. I was a loyal customer of Energie Wilmslow for seven years and had absolutely no problems, I joined Energie Cheadle believing that Energie Cheadle would live up to the same standards, but evidently your organisation is unorganised, incompetent and an actual nuisance. 6. I am leaving a negative review after receiving a tremendous amount of harassment and emails threatening me when I stopped going to your gym months and months ago. This treatment to ex customers is disgusting. 7. Lastly I am currently attending a gym not too far from your gym in Cheadle, I have had absolutely no problems, no nuisance, no harassment, nothing of “miscommunication” I am paying them twice as more than what your membership costs and there have been no problems.
Hi Ramsha, Thank you for your feedback on our gym and facilities. However,we must admit that the concerns you have raised have left us a little confused. You joined our gym around 12 months ago on a special offer rate via an external Personal Training company. This deal is only ever sold as a 12 month minimum term contract – a feature which was explained to you at the time of joining and also listed in the terms and conditions you received in your welcome email. We note that you were dissatisfied with the “awful and old equipments”. We apologise that this did not meet your expectations, however (due to a full refurbishment of the gym completed at the start of 2018) much of our equipment at that time was no more than 6 months old. Other members also regularly applaud the range of equipment we offer as greatly exceeding that offered by other (considerably more expensive) gyms. Certainly, it seems that in spite of these concerns you chose to recommend us to a friend, who also joined. On the system it is noted that you received a free month’s membership in return for this, as part of our ongoing ‘Refer a Friend’ offer. At this time, we also allowed you to suspend payments on your membership for a few weeks while you were on holiday, so that you weren’t paying for the gym while away. I’d appreciate some clarification on your decision to leave the gym. In this review you state that it was due to disappointment with the equipment while, on another review website, you have stated that it was because you were moving away from the area? Either way, you did not communicate this decision to us at the gym. Once you had enjoyed your period of free membership, you cancelled your direct debit once payments restarted, violating your contract terms and leading our Accounts Team to suspend your membership and seek the recommencements of payments. It appears that you did not comply with our Accounts Team’s initial emails, triggering the debt collection process. Reviewing your case, it appears that only the costs of your membership contact itself were passed to the collection agency, with our Accounts Team generously waiving their administration fees. Any further contact you have received since this (in early February) is from the external collection agency, not énergie Fitness Cheadle, our Head Office, or our Accounts Team. For reference, if, at any point in the last 9 months, you had contacted us at the gym, we could have halted these proceedings and come to a mutual agreement on the way forward. Indeed, if you have moved out of the area, you may have been entitled to early termination of your contact, with nothing more to pay. I’m sorry to hear that you have found yourself in this situation, but speaking to us directly, rather than leaving unfounded, negative outbursts on social media review sites, will always result in more favourable outcomes for all concerned. Negative experience: I was a member of this gym and was asked to put right some poor decoration works carried out by their builder! I did the work that they requested and the gym owner made sure that he had nothing to do with the payment of the work! The builder had to pay me but of course he went bankrupt so I didn’t get paid!!! I tried to get the owner of the gym to talk to me regarding my non payment but he didn’t even have the courtesy to speak to me! I stopped going to the gym even though I was still a member! Hate this place with a passion!

Negative experience: ***CANNOT CANCEL Membership ONLINE*** Really hard to Cancel So I've been going to this for over 5 years, staff is great but cancelling the membership is absolute nightmare. you stay on the phone for over 30 mins and lines only open between 9-5 . cannot be done online. I gave my notice on 2nd September and was told it's 30 day notice. because it was 2nd September it meant the notice would kick in from October which meant 2 months notice. No Regard for a customer that's been with you for over 5 years. Was told by Harland it's not something they can do as they just process payments for Fit4less. Have heard similar stories about cancellation from other members too.

Negative experience: Good gym. But will be better if I can do shower after workout in the morning. But the heating not working and is freezing. Is another year that during winter is no heating and Sommer without air conditioning. Other than that all good. But for me is big issue because I'm do my workout before work so will be nice take a shower before work. Showers facility poor as well. You have cold water or very hot and no chance to adjusting.

Fantastic experience: Excellent, very inexpensive gym in a good location. Plenty of parking and bike lock points. Easily reached by car or bike, located between Cheadle Hulme and Handforth with the A34 so close I'd say it was in a very accessible area. It has everything I need from a gym for a very reasonable price. Free weights are plentiful, weight machines are diverse and well spaced out, there's usually plenty of cardio machines free, a few rowing and bike machines, and lots of cross trainers and treadmills, the latter two of which seem to be the most popular, hence more machines. There are personal trainers available here, seemingly at all times of the day, I even see them there past 9pm so it seems like there's a wide range of times available to fit most schedules. There are also daily classes available for free if you buy either of the two more expensive memberships, but still only £20 for the top one. All round I'm very happy with this gym.

Positive experience: Agree, water fountain needed and hairdryer to be useable, otherwise it is a good basic gym.

Positive experience: Well equipped gym but need updating. Not sure if aircon is working. But it's cheap and you get enough free weights, dumbbells up to 60kg so can't complain.

Negative experience: Most machines broken/not repaired. It is freezing due to no heating. Leaks everywhere, so it is a hazard. AVOID and DO NOT JOIN Today they email to say at weekends due to staffing issues, they'll close at 12.30pm What a joke!
