Negative experience: Appalling customer service. Wasted hours on trying to speak with someone, listening to an awful tune. They call you back, call drops and nobody calls you back again. Requested call back a second time, the guy couldn’t advise and put me again on a long waiting call, listening to the same awful tune. What a waste of time.

Fantastic experience: Lucy Halfpenny has been my personal trainer since August last year at Salford Virgin Active. She is amazing. She’s helped me build an effective gym routine, and I’m seeing results like I have never seen before. Negative experience: I would not recommend this gym to anyone. The communication is very poor and they seem to think it’s ok to charge the fee that they do for gym membership when some of equipment is dated . The worst was when the gym ceiling collapsed and part of the gym remained closed for over a month. Tonight they closed the gym early and didn’t notify members. I took a taxi over just to be told they were closing early. So I only got to use the gym for 20 mins. They do not seem very mindful of their members. This gym is unreliable

Fantastic experience: Great gym, especially since they recently got a new hack squat! The staff are some of the loveliest people and the other gym goers are super friendly and always open to helping you out or having a chat. One of the better gyms I have been to. It does get very crowded during the peak times & the classes happen on the gym floor rather than separately but it's never a hindrance.

Negative experience: Really enjoyed my time at the gym however like with all gyms cancelling your contract is a pure nightmare. I cancelled my 12 month contract at the end of it (as advised), they even confirmed it was cancelled, yet they've gone and started a new 12 month contract without my knowledge/permission saying I can’t get out of it... and, I havent read or signed anything or said 'contract'. Completely ruined my good experience.

Positive experience: After 11 months of being a member, I can genuinely say it’s meh. Most of the reception staff is quite rude, argumentative and lacks customer service skills. The scanners at reception often don’t register my card for some reason (even though I am scanning properly) and instead of finding a solution, reception blames it on me and me not scanning the card properly. Equipment is extremely outdated, aside from one cable machine which was recently updated, everything seems to be at least 15-20 years old. The suggestion to add at least one stair master fall on deaf ears. Lat pull down machine has so much dust at the top it’s basically a dust carpet at this point. The gym takes on way too many members so often times there is no space to train. The best thing - and honestly the thing keeping me at this gym - is Pilates reformer classes. When I joined I wanted to do boxing but this was axed and never returned (which is a big shame). The Pilates instructors are lovely and that’s the part I can genuinely recommend. Overall, for the amount of money they take, its only worth it if your doing Pilates and can work out in off peak times. Otherwise, get ready for equipment hogging, influencer recording and outdated, dusty equipment. Edit: I forgot to add, nobody contacted us members about at least partial reimbursement when the ceiling of the shop below collapsed and we couldn’t use S&C, cycling and some machines for almost a month. They took the full amount of money due for that time period even though we couldn’t use the full gym. The pizza shop downstairs is still closed so I’m not sure how safe it actually is to use that part of the gym.

Negative experience: How unfortunate and unprofessional this organisation is. I sent three letters of complaint and all of them were ignored. The only time they reached out to me after I sent my letter was when they sent communication about the refer a buddy/ friend promotion. My letter was about the ceiling collapsing and how for nearly three weeks members only had use of half of the gym. I didn’t return after my pass expired bc there was no point paying for equipment that I couldn’t use because of the ceiling collapsing. They didn’t send out communication to members about the gym full y reopening. I had to reach out to them to find out. As much as I love fitness, I decided to not return and try another gym. The way the issue of the ceiling collapsing and poor communication after the ceiling collapsed was unacceptable.

Negative experience: The problem with Virgin is that it's virtually impossible to contact them directly.You can't solve a problem with a txt like the price rise jumping up to £50 with a msg [Eventually, I resolved the problem after searching the Internet to contact them but it needs to be more simple without all the hassle .As soon as I was engaging with an advisor yesterday, the problem solved she was excellent.VIRGIN we are human,and sometimes a tx or email is not enough with our engaging with another human. Negative experience: I was sworn at by a member in the changing room (f.off and aggressively confronted) for kindly pointing out his swimming trunks caused a water puddle in which I nearly slipped. As per Virgin policy for aggressive or swearing behaviour, reported him to the operation manager Chris Xavier who was not interested in the slightest. Appaling attitude. In his mind because the member had ADMITTED swearing at me "this made everything ok" Of course it didn't as nobody tells me to f.off and apology not accepted!! As I did not accept his apology, he ridiculously banned me from this club hence crazy and unacceptable decision. I obviously complained to Chris' own line manager confirming not handled correctly. As far as I know member is still there against Virgin's policy again very unfair and unacceptable. My refund money for days not been used also took Over the 14 days as advised once complaint and follow ups been raised, again unacceptable. Moved on and much happier at ELITE David Lloyd Amazing Staff and Respectful decent members (luxury and another level ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐) I had cancelled my membership there anyway from October 2024 renew 12 month period due to his poor management and other factors so did not have the last laugh anyway IF this crazy decision to ban me from ALL Virgin Active Gyms stands (never know in future) through absolutely no fault of own, I will be be taking this further with head office and directors. However have no plans whatsoever to return to Virgin Active due to an horrendous management team. Chris Xavier's customer service and empathy is non existent so been absolutely delighted never to see him again Many thanks

Positive experience: Some staff are friendly and management lack customer service skills and empathy. The vibe is dead in the gym, staff could do more to motivate and assist clients get the best outcomes and experience in gym. They have the right equipment just not in the right place and low ceiling restricts workout's ‍♀️. The location of gym is what will encourage you to join but that Enthusiasm will pass quickly.

Negative experience: You will not believe the apparent latest cost saving measures. THEY'VE STOPPED PROVIDING SANITISING/DISINFECTANT FOR MEMBERS TO WIPE DOWN KIT. Yep, sadly I'm not joking. When asked, the replies from Virgin vary from; we are not in charge of what goes on in our gym to "really, we didn't know" but sadly, one week on and they haven't reversed the decision. Have they forgotten why we wipe down kit - TO STOP INFECTIONS SPREADING!! They actually use the word "Health" in their title blurb..... Knackered, tired, worn out old equipment and they apparently have no money to fix anything. Most kit is over 10 years old! Now they are trying to save money by not running the air conditioning. It is often sweltering and humid in there. Definitely not worth the expensive membership fees - the lack of funds might indicate they're going bust....... Wow, how can a gym get into this state?

Negative experience: Only go to swim as 76 years old and not in good health to find pool with lots of children in splashing about one with large water pistol not good or safe for me.as don't know if they have their vaccines jabs.and times at weekend 10 till 4 o'clock not good.thinking of leaving along with my daughter.after 7 years membership will be sad to go.

Negative experience: "average wait time is 3 minutes" and "Don't sweat we'll be with you soon" and I am still hanging there for 30 minutes NOW?? Is it company policy to make customers wait an unreasonable amount of time when they wish to cancel their membership? I cannot afford to spend another hour waiting on hold. Fantastic experience: Recently joined this gym & found everything to be great thus far - the staff have been super friendly & approachable. Huge shoutout to Amy who walked me through the process and gave me a tour of the facilities - very personable, professional & attentive. I’d have likely stayed with PureGym if it wasn’t for Amy going though the classes & offerings in detail. The gym itself has great machines and a weighted area, the changing rooms are clean & the spa facilities are kept to a good condition.

Negative experience: I’ve been to a lot of gyms and this is by far the worst gym I’ve been to, in fact I’d go as far to say I’ve used better home gyms than this; and by that I mean a garage with just a rusty pull-up bar in it. I’d recommend this gym to those who want to see what life was like for people in 2003 or people who are ONLY interested in cardio machines and that don’t go to work during the day. I say all this because the machines are so outdated and not designed to keep your joints healthy - plus theres so much empty space where they could put new machines AND there’s only 2 cables! Another out dated practice is the gym shuts either 9pm or 10pm depending on the day. This means that it makes Times Square look deserted in comparison to how busy this gym is during rush hour (5pm -9pm). It’s not as if the gym is skint, the cost is outrageous, when better gyms usually cost £30-£40. At a push £50 due to the pool. The owners are lucky that they’ve got a monopoly on the area but once another gym opens up around that area, unfortunately it’ll shut down that gym unless they invest in it. *Nearly forgot to add, at least invest in some new cable attachments and barbell cushion sleeves, they must only be cheap.

Negative experience: Guys, honestly, I’ve got to vent about Virgin Active. The staff here? Super rude. It’s like they forgot what customer service is. Every time I go, it feels like I’m bothering them just by being there. And let’s talk about the gym equipment – it’s pretty much a joke. There’s such a limited selection, and half the time, something’s broken or just looks like it’s from the last century. But what really gets to me is this vibe I feel – and I’m just going to say it – it sometimes feels kinda racist. As a person of color, I’ve noticed some off vibes in this all-white gym. It’s subtle, but it’s there, and it makes me super uncomfortable. I just want to work out like everyone else, you know? So, if you’re looking for a chill place to exercise where you feel welcome and can actually use decent equipment, I’m sorry, but Virgin Active ain’t it. They’ve got a lot to fix, starting with their attitude and some new gear.

Negative experience: I’m deeply disappointed to report that my experience at Virgin Active has been overwhelmingly negative. The staff, to begin with, are some of the most unfriendly people I’ve encountered in a customer service environment. Their lack of warmth and approachability makes every visit uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Adding insult to injury, the state of the gym facilities is appalling. The equipment is often dirty or in a state of disrepair, making it clear that regular maintenance isn’t a priority. The locker rooms are a whole other story - consistently filthy, with a noticeable lack of basic hygiene standards. It’s shocking that a gym of this reputation would allow their facilities to degrade to such an extent. I joined Virgin Active expecting a premium gym experience, but the reality is far from it. The staff’s attitude makes me feel like an unwelcome intruder rather than a valued member, and the unhygienic conditions are a health hazard. It’s a shame to see a gym with such potential fall so short on basic aspects of customer experience and cleanliness. I urge potential members to think twice before joining. Unless Virgin Active addresses these serious issues, I cannot recommend this gym to anyone.

Negative experience: I’m beyond frustrated with Virgin Active, especially with an employee named Amy Lincoln. My experience trying to cancel my membership has been nothing short of a nightmare. I’ve done everything by the book, providing all the necessary information and documentation, but Amy has been uncooperative every step of the way. I’m appalled that I’m still being charged for a membership I’ve been trying to cancel, all because Amy seems incapable or unwilling to perform a basic function of her job. Virgin Active, you need to address this issue. It’s unacceptable that your staff treats members this way. Amy Lincoln’s behavior is a glaring example of how not to handle customer requests. The sheer lack of professionalism and courtesy is astounding. Customers shouldn’t be trapped in their memberships or ignored when they decide to leave. I expected a lot more from a reputable gym like Virgin Active, but clearly, this experience has shown me where your priorities lie. It’s time to take customer satisfaction seriously and rectify this situation.

Negative experience: Average equipments with average classes (comparable to other, cheaper gyms with similar facilities) rates of the membership and the obligatory terms & conditions are to a large extent unjustifiable. In hindsight, the 12-month contract was not worth it even though I’ve been a regular gym-goer. If you freeze your membership, it automatically extends the total duration of the membership and you’re obligated to pay £64+ every month. And even during the freeze period, you’re charged. All in all, definitely not worth it. Just waiting to end the membership.

Negative experience: Probably the worst experience I've ever had joining a gym or any social club of any description. I paid £180 for 1 months gym subscription for myself and my girlfriend - this was predominantly so she could do the pilates classes. We did our induction where the sales lady checked our ID's etc. and we told her at the time that Emilie would be leaving at the end of the month back to Australia so we didn't want the membership to continue beyond the end of October. She said she would take care of it - putting a note on the account so it automatically cancelled. She even helped calculate the price to end of October including our pro-rata days in September. A couple of weeks in and Emilie couldn't book pilates classes on the app. The receptionist had taken it upon herself to block our accounts until we provided ID to show our ages because we were on age restricted accounts. I was not on an age restricted account and we had already provided our ID's. A week later we get it resolved and can start booking classes again.... Then it gets to the end of October - I check my account and I've been billed for 20 days in November. We ring up countless times, send numerous emails and they refuse to refund it. I directly spoke to the lady who did the induction where she lied to my face saying she didn't say that and "would have directed me to the app to cancel the subscription". I told her this is not what happened and she said she would speak to her manager about it. 5 days on and I give up, rob me of the £30 if you have to. Glad to see the back of this gym.

Negative experience: Overpriced with bad customer service. Previously enquired about using my free day passes with my membership but got completly ignored. Ive now had to cancel due to a drastic decline in my personal circumstances. Their central customer service department is probably the worst I have ever corresponded with. They don't care about your circumstances or your situation, or even the correct process to internally raise a formal complaint (prompted them twice now, had no offical acknowledgement) - they just care about taking your money and giving late & half-baked responses. You're not a person to them, just a pound-sign.

Negative experience: Honest view: I’m a current member and have been since May 2022, I pay £65 a month. Im am qualified PT with 10 years experience and trained in many gyms. This club is below average and overpriced! Limited free weights, benches, and cables. Long waits for equipment and it has a very strange atmosphere - the latter comment is my personal opinion based on my experience over the last 6 months. I have trained in better gyms that charge half the price and offer a better training experience.

Positive experience: I've been using this gym for over a year now. It's well equipped with lots of fitness equipment, a pool and a sauna. They also have different fitness classes including boxing, HiiT work outs etc. Those can be interesting when you want to do a coordinated workout session that is managed by someone else. It's more expensive than most other gyms but it's worth it if you are sure that you'll make use of all the facilities regularly.

Great condition first of all, Mrs. Lelia even corrects someone's mistakes if they does not correctly doing - which is so important. Negative experience: Truthfully, for someone like me who trains seriously and enjoys going to the gym, I didn’t enjoy this gym at all. It was very expensive for what it offered, with a poor selection of weight machines and a lack of variety. There were either very few machines available or just one of each type. The same was for benches and racks. Additionally, there was always a long wait for a machine, bench, or even just a space to exercise.

Negative experience: A bunch of money hungry individuals. I requested to cancel my PT sessions for valid reasons and had provided sufficient evidence , though they allowed me to get out of my contract . I got charged for a month I believe I shouldn’t have. I was then coerced into using all this sessions within a time frame of which a month down the line , I barely got any responses to my emails . It was only when I took the active step of removing my card that I started getting responses but even then , complete disregard of the fact I’d paid months of a gym membership with no active sessions as the only reason I kept it active in the first place was to get rid of the remaining sessions as I am now located in London.

Positive experience: nice facilities, nice people. but gets extremely hot and humid in the gym because the air con doesn't work and it has a lot of glass - like a greenhouse. this is bad for working out because you sweat a lot even though you aren't working effectively . very clean. has a jacuzzi and sauna but these are small and regularly hogged by groups of youths who stay in there for an hour or more at a time. now they have a junior gym meaning teens can go in there 10-4 weekends . also filming in the gym should be banned. often people filming in the swimming pool loungers or weights area for insta. also gym and pool closes 15-20 minutes before closing time

Fantastic experience: I was a bit reluctant to join this virgin gym as it didn't have great reviews like most virgin gyms do but I went ahead and joined anyway and I must say I am pleased that I did. Very clean gym, the changing rooms are spotless, the staff are so friendly and helpful. They even remember you after seeing you just couple of times. They make the effort to greet you regardless of how busy they are. I do go super early and off peak mainly though as it does get really busy in peak times. The steam room and sauna tend to get extremely busy that you can't even sit down but only at peak times. Overall very good gym and facilities. Lovely views too!

Fantastic experience: I suffer from muscle loss and use the gym to build strength. I struggle getting on some machines and today I was really happy with the help and support from two young ladies who took time to help me and went above what they needed to do. Trouble is I've forgot their names but if I see them again I'll find out. It needed mentioning because they both worked and made it possible for me to train.

Negative experience: Wrote 3 emails to different staff members describing the uncomfortable experiences I had in this gym. 2 emails were ignored and didn't receive a response. I did receive a phone call telling me there was nothing they could do about it and I had to stay in my 12 month commitment despite not attending the gym at all due to the harassment I experienced. Really sad to have been ignored twice and not allowed to leave my contract only 1-2 months early. Disappointed to have received no support, understanding or care from Virgin at all, it really doesn't seem like they care about their member's safety so I wouldn't recommend this gym for young women unfortunately.

Positive experience: Love coming here & Love that it feels like a safe non judgemental environment, and the pool (although the same men constantly take over sauna and jacuzzi for what feels like hours which isn’t very fair!) Positive experience: I have been a member here for over a year and a half. As a regular gym-goer, this gym is good for me. I haven't visited poolside so I cannot comment on that end. Pleasant members who don't bother you and staff members who seem friendly enough. The cons are that the gym equipments are kept unclean and that there aren't many of them, so you are often left to improvise or hang around.

Negative experience: Avoid. Overpriced for the aged and worn equipment. Go elsewhere. Staff are also rude and lacking in professionalism. Sauna regularly has steroid-pumped men eating food in it; not classy. Pool is massively overcrowded and super short at 20m. I recommend any of the proper gym brands that exist in close vicinity. This club is massively overpriced for what it is.

Fantastic experience: Virgin Active is the best gym I’ve gone to in Manchester. Wide range of machines, very rarely have to queue for one, friendly atmosphere. The best bit is the classes. Completely free to do as many as you want a week and the instructors are amazing. Then, you get to relax after in the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Basic shampoo + shower gel + conditioner is provided which is nice in case you’ve forgotten your own. You do need to bring your own towel but they can be rented too for £1.50 a towel. You need to bring your own lock for the lockers but I prefer this over a system where you have to bring a pound coin every time. You get free 4 hour parking with each gym visit too which is really handy in the Quays as parking is scarce and expensive. Two tram stops <5 mins walk away: Imperial War Museum & Media City. The only criticism I have is that they have a teeny tiny jacuzzi which fits 3 people comfortably (4 at a push) and it’s always full. For such a large gym you’d think they’d have a bigger one. And I know that’s being nit picky!

Negative experience: Rude customer service! Hung up the phone on me after being on hold for 15 mins! I was asking if we can have a pay as you go for a pool access and the lady on the phone rudely replied “we don’t do that!” and hung up the phone right away! I was a member before and I know that there’s an option for those who are not members to pay as they go for the pool! I also asked the front desk in person before and they said you can pay £15 for the pool if ur not a member! Thank god I didn’t pay a trip there to meet rude people who’s only “as front desk”job is to be friendly with customers yet they’re a total failure at it!

Negative experience: Great facilities except for the jacuzzi as you have to kind of "fight" to use it as it is very small and stops working every 10 minutes, meaning that you have to wait for a long time before you can use it and then you're told that you can only use it for ten minutes as if they are letting you using it as a favour....lol. Sometimes I have to wait for almost an hour to be able to use it. Open times on weekends and bank holidays is terrible! Some staff are friendly but the majority are unreasonable. My lock was destroyed and sized without my consent and I was told to buy another one from them despite the fact that I have been a member for many years.

Negative experience: The gym is good, although the space for free weights is not enough. Some of the staff is not helpful at all. Once i finished my workout and filling my shaker bottle with water. Due to sweat it slipped out of my hand when i was trying to tighten the lid. The protein shake spilt out in the walk way, it wasn’t a lot as i quickly grab it before the bottle gets emptied. I straightaway put the wet floor sign as the gym wasn’t much busy, a PT working nearby came handed me a roll of tissue and left, i end up cleaning the floor and than handed back the tissue roll at the reception . I guess a good lesson not to tighten the shaker bottle lid with wet hands. The reception lady was really sorry when she heard it all.

Negative experience: The gym itself isn't bad but the location kills it. Constant road closures and diversions cause horrible traffic congestions in the area making the gym a pain to access. Only been a member a few months but can hardly visit with how things are. Luckily I have a PureGym membership too or I'd basically have no gym.

Negative experience: They have by mistake double registered me for my membership and are charging me twice i have asked at the desk and was promised a call from them I have also called them and they said they will sort it and they have not done so
