Southam Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: First impressions: Was at reception, rang the bell twice, and nobody came. Loads of merchandise on display, which I could have walked off with, unchallenged. Somebody briefly came to the office. I rang the bell again, and still no response. First impressions....
Positive experience: Reasonably decent gym and nice staff, but the rule about cancelling classes within 4 hours and automatically getting a cancellation fee is ridiculous. There are lots of situations that can arise within 4 hours of a class that mean you can’t attend and you shouldn’t have to be charged for! I recently cancelled a class BANG ON the 4 hour mark, (cancelled at 14.00 and class was at 18.00) and have still received a cancellation charge. I’m not against the idea per se, but it should be within 1 or 2 hours.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this place. The people who come to the gym to exercise are lovely, the staff is friendly, and the facilities are very good. It’s wonderful to see children swimming, and it is also a safe place, being a family-oriented leisure center. The gym is very clean, and the area is quiet. I’m really happy I found this place, which has become one of my favorite places to visit over the past few weeks.❤️
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place ,Fantastic players, Fantastic plays. Met this amazing person called Connor at the centre when I was going to go into the gym he came up to me and we had such a lovely chat he’s such a kind soul . This chat really boosted my mental health and the chat we had about weights and life was really good and what his aspirations are. If anyone else interacts with Connor speak to him he’s genuinely such an amazing person.
Fantastic experience: Good facilities and reasonably priced for an afternoon swim
Negative experience: Like every everyone active leisure centre. They’re stopping your activity during to some strange circumstances.
Fantastic experience: Helpful staff and clean facilities.
Positive experience: I do like this place because of the bike studio it is just good
Negative experience: Not much going on and appalling management. Nobody answers the phone - it's a wonder why they have a number. Website is difficult to use. No timetable/schedule available online or printed at reception. Had to personally go in and ask at reception. There was a lovely young lady, Macey(?) who took it upon herself to write the timetable out for us. There was a queue of people forming, so she dealt with us as quick as she could. Realising she required support, she rang the bell in the hope that someone may come to assist, but sadly, Cole ('assistant manager') was busy on his phone scrolling through his social media posts in the office, whilst pretending to be working on his computer, so he completely ignored Macey's plea for help. We made a point to ask Cole to ensure our thanks to Macey were passed onto her manager. This gym has such potential, but with bone idle managers like Cole, a lack of exercise classes and activities, and a general poor attitude towards customers, it's a bit of a shame that so much money was spent on its refurbishment. I won't be joining until this changes. Ps. Hopefully Macey will be either promoted to manager to make it a better place, or she'll find a job elsewhere, where she may be appreciated.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym, a lovely lad called Dylan who told me he worked there was showing me the ropes in the gymnasium and helping me learn the basics whilst he was off shift. I will be returning and buying a memborship for sure.
Fantastic experience: I would be a lot less healthy as a person if there wasn't this pool there
Negative experience: The gym itself is small but tidy, no buzz about the place, the main reception is a bit grotty, they dont reply to emails, neither answer the phone, that was my experience. It is not cheap considering the competition in the area but it might be convenient if you are local, JD's for me in Rugby.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities. Staff really pleasant and helpful.
Positive experience: Small gym, perfect for me, good equipment and friendly. Only gripe ... frequently late opening in the mornings, which is very irritating ... should be ON TIME because my day is often scheduled and late opening means late start = late finish = not satisfactory.
Positive experience: Really nice centre. Not overly expensive, changing rooms nice and clean, booking simple enough (use the app, not the website) and pool was decent. Gym area looks fairly standard but haven't used yet. Plenty of parking available. Could do with some secure cycle parking.
Negative experience: 10 O' clock on a Sunday morning and they've got dance music blasting in the pool for a public swim. Pools are noisey places anyway, but the addition of the dance music blaring at full volume made our time very unpleasant and our 1 year old just cried most of the way through it. We asked for it to be turned down a little and were ignored. Left after 30 minutes with a headache as we couldn't hear ourselves think. God knows how they'll hear a child shouting for help!
Negative experience: Chucked me out as a kid because I was punched in the face.
Negative experience: Poor organisation, refurbished poorly, some rude staff , left and joined another venue, a lot,lot better!!!!
Positive experience: Nice place got everything you need.
Fantastic experience: Recent refurbishment has dramatically modernised the centres fitness offering. Great kit, welcoming team and friendly atmosphere.
Positive experience: Liking how the social distancing is being managed. Been to the gym, swimming and to an exercise class and felt safe throughout. Not the fanciest gym I've ever been to but it's friendly and welcoming and has enough facilities to do the job
Fantastic experience: Great gym and pool friendly staff. Fantastic range of classes.
Positive experience: It has the essentials, not very crowded, has plenty of parking place... But used to go in Leamington and this one doesn't compare.
Positive experience: Friendly helpful staff. Good equipment.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff. Clean changing rooms, free parking (unlike ripoff Banbury leisure centre), lovely swimming pool.
Fantastic experience: Watery pool. And showers.
Positive experience: Brilliant staff, very helpful. Enough equipment in the gym, good pool, changing rooms a bit tired, nice steam room and sauna.
Negative experience: Sometimes waiting 10/15 minutes for a person to attend the front desk. Parking is a nightmare at peak times
Fantastic experience: Small gym but still pretty good
Fantastic experience: Really friendly staff
Positive experience: Reasonable service overall. Cold showers earlier this week Not to standard. Needs better changing room facilities to all for children of both sexes to be more appropriately mixed with adults
Positive experience: Adequate facilities, poor management.
Positive experience: Needs investment. Shabby in pool and changing rooms.
Positive experience: Good in all aspects except parking and WiFi.
Negative experience: Poor value for money. Whole place is geared up as if it is a school facility or summer camp. Swimming times are very restricted and always listed by 'term time' and 'non-term time' which means nothing to people who are not children. Free weights area is tiny and not of much use. Whilst Newbold Comyn still has the annoying 'term time' nonsense it is much less restricted and the gym is actually worth going too so whilst not great is better value for money and worth the drive. Also it opens too late to be feasible before work. 6.30 should be the latest a gym is opening in the mornings. 7am (7.05 by the time they've opened the doors) doesn't cut the mustard.
Positive experience: Good local facilities.
Positive experience: This swimming pool is pretty good, sometimes we find the water is a bit cold when we take the family and are standing in the water helping our children. But if you were lane swimming then you would probably warm up enough
Fantastic experience: This is a well run and efficient Centre
Fantastic experience: Good aerobic gym facilities, friendly staff.
Negative experience: The gym staff are aggressive and dislike anyone who wants to lift seriously, the free weight section is small and cramped and frankly is laughable. Gym chalk is not allowed because the gym staff do not put in enough effort to be able to clean to a high standard. Sometimes the music is not working, that along with the lack of good customer service gives an experience that is unsatisfactory and frankly disgusting, leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. WILL NOT BE COMING BACK. EVER.
Positive experience: Nice place, but parking does get very busy at peak times
Fantastic experience: Good swimming facilities and quiet pool. 25meters. Helpful staff.
Positive experience: Nice friendly staff, have 2 daughters at swimming lessons there. Showers (in male side at least) could do with being bigger
Negative experience: Very dirty.
Fantastic experience: Clean friendly and we'll equipped
Positive experience: Good for lessons, not fully booked in case Leamington and Warwick are
Positive experience: Good sized pool plus health suite with sauna and steam room is nice. The changing rooms are clean and have lots of lockers.
Positive experience: Nice little local leisure centre.
Positive experience: Local pool and gym. Small, but fine for general swimming.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place. Amazing swimming teachers
Positive experience: I use the gym facilities here and find it all very good.
Negative experience: Poor parking facilities causing a nuisance on the public highway, unhelpful staff
Negative experience: It's like a youth club at 15-30 onwards can't get on equipment for school kids , the changing rooms remind me of my leisure centre when I was a child an that was 30 years ago ! A bit of pipe holding the shower curtain up in men's changing room showers doesn't really cut it in 2017 and all this for 30 odd quid a month staff are friendly though so not all bad .
Positive experience: Not brimming with facilities, but a good small leisure centre. Friendly staff, and never too busy
Positive experience: To many masters try to run to many things on to small a budget
Negative experience: Not at all value for money. Class teachers using notes other members to tell them what to do. Having to pay extra for classes even if your a member. Classes are not great for working parents. Pool is cold and the changing rooms dirty. Not a place to spend time.
