Hamilton Water Palace: Opinions
Negative experience: Where to start... Having been to 2 other SL pools and been told they were closed, I tried here. A very unfriendly welcome awaited me, which was just lovely. After getting ready, I found that several areas of the swimming were closed, including the sauna and the steam room, only the big pool was available. The big pool was split into 4 areas, the smallest of which was for actual swimming, and in that area were loads of people messing about in rubber rings, like they were in magaluf, so there was no place to actually swim. You pay for a monthly membership to try and get fit, yet 2 pools closed and this is the only place you can go and you're confined to a space with so many obstacles, you'd be lucky to swim 4 metres without getting a blow up dolphin in your eye.
Negative experience: Big flume is shut, big slide is shut, outdoor pool shut, river rapids part is shut, jacuzzi and beds part shut. Now in the last fortnight the pirate ship is shut. A terrible state of affairs.
Positive experience: Great swimming lessons and the kids love the pirate ship. Shame the big slide and other pool is closed. Very clean and staff are friendly.
Positive experience: Another great day out while in Scotland and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. Great family outing
Negative experience: Not worth it at all.Kids pool, outside pool and a half of the main pool is never in use.Water is freezing. Absolutely nothing to do ♂️♂️Do not recommend this place.
Positive experience: This could be a brilliant one for little ones but even their pirate ship is closed off. The flumes are also out of action and so it’s fairly disappointing. Changing area is great for families though and it is clean.
Negative experience: Flumes and that part of the pool has been closed for over a year, the main pool only has 1/4 of it open to general swimming and is overcrowded. Reception staff and swimming instructors are all amazing people and do their best, council needs to get its finger out and give it the funding it needs to fully open
Negative experience: Very very over price and nothing is working
Negative experience: we go here regular as its the closest pool to us,we understand that the flumes ect are closed as been going so long, but seems to be the swimming lessons are taking over the whole pool,on a sunday peak times they close 3 quarters of the pool for lessons, then you get 50-80 adults and children in a wee corner of the pool like cattle. why not do lessons in the quieter times during the week not at the weekend when you have all the punters with kids?absolute madness imo… I can handle alot but it was even giving me the fear as you cant play or swim with the kids as your bumping into someone,or getting moaned at because you splash someone… NLC needs a good look at this place and how its ran.children as lifeguards aswell…wont be back…
Positive experience: Is parking is free?
Negative experience: The whole reason you would take your kids here has been closed for years. No kids pool no flumes nothing. Only the main pool which 3/4 of is closed for swimming lessons all day so there's a tiny bit of freezing cold water to wade about in. Shocking, council should reinstate budget getting young people active is necessary. Won't be back yet loved it back in its day. It just needs money to run and have staff it could be great again
Negative experience: Flume and childrens pirateship was shut, receptionist mentioned the pirateship but not the flume or I would have went elsewhere. Changing area was dirty and the showers have a sign up saying hot water is intermitent which it was. Outdoor swimming area looks like it has been shut for years. This place is needing a revamp and brought up to date as best they can. Staff were nice but overall I won't be back until I hear about a re-launch.
Fantastic experience: The receptionist are very welcoming at the front desk. The life guards and instructors they're all very pleasant and the aqua aerobics is a great class.
Positive experience: Good place for to take the kids
Positive experience: Good location and clean pool
Negative experience: I've been coming here near a decade and have finally decided not to return until something is done about the state of the pools. I haven't seen the leisure pool side open in a very long time, the steps to the flumes needed repainting at the very least. The tiles in the main pool are stained green which is very unsightly. This has gotten worse recently and this weekend I wondered if this is why there were only about 8 people in at about 3.30pm. The staff are great as usual but the star attraction is a disgrace to our council. Please let us know if there are any immediate plans to revamp the main pool to make it attractive to swimmers again.
Negative experience: Never reopened the only good part of the leisure centre since Covid. Changing rooms and toilets are not nice either. The place needs a revamp
Negative experience: Avoid this place! Actually half of the venue is closed for the public. No any slides can be used by the people. Three quarter of the pool is emptied as swimming lessons. Actually 3 kids were swimming on that huge area while around 50 people were overcrowded in the one quarter of the pool as "public area". It's a bad joke. It was impossible to do any swimming in that overcrowded area. The shift manager is big face and arrogant. He was unable to explain what is the logic in their system instead trying to arrogantly educate me on a raised vouce then tried to humiliate me front of the public and my kids. This behaviour is absolutely unacceptable. The place is a shame just like the management and their pool system.
Negative experience: It’s a dump. The family/change rooms are all broken so if you have a kid that can’t walk n stand while you get changed, just forget about it. The pools are freezing half the time n get closed on a whim by ‘staffing issues’ I paid to go in the kids pool one day got changed with my 2yo to get told the kids pool/pirate ship was closed at the waters edge. The big pool was Baltic so got changed n asked for my money back n then got grief that I should have checked the kiddie pool was open. I asked n bought a ticket for it n then didn’t open at 10. Some of the staff are nice. Maureen on the desk n the other ladies are nice. The bald bloke that isn’t fat is nice. The rest are hopeless. You used to be able to borrow a pool noodle now as of last week you can’t according to the boy with the terrible ginger beard. So in conclusion it’s pants as one day you go n the pols are ok to swim in then you go the next n there are penguins standing by the pool with scarfs on! Why can’t you just keep the heating constant and consistent n get rid of the weirdos that work there with the beards? You know who you are!
Negative experience: Drove an hour to go here cause was told go here amazing place looks amazing on pics to don't waste ur time most rubbish pool had 5 Yr old and 1 Yr old the pool was freezing the 1 Yr old was going blue chittering fume doughnut slide lazy river all off why advertise them if not going to b on and big pool only small part u can use worse place ever don't go if u want a good place to go to go to time capsule water is lovely and warm and got everything
Fantastic experience: Well maintained and adequate staff presence. Very good swimming pool and centre offers swimming lessons for kids and shallow swimming area for younger kids and babies. There is also gym on site.
Positive experience: Nice swimming pool when you have little kids. However: half of the pool building is closed, they should put this information on their web site.
Fantastic experience: Great place to go for some fun in the water
Negative experience: Not the greatest. On the website it advertised a lazy river, flumes and a donut slide but these are not open and according to staff have not been for a long time. Travelled an hour with and 8 year old and a 2 year old on her birthday to play in a puddle. Thankfully I had the eight year old with me to supervise his sister as no one over 8 is allowed to be on the toddler ship. Not even a parent to help them. If your children are older than the age of three I’d go elsewhere to avoid disappointment
Negative experience: They’ve let this place go to rack and ruin. The place is dirty, toilets were disgusting, the whirlpool and chutes have been closed for god knows how long. There was also sand and gravel on the bottom of the pool that none of the staff were bothering with. It would be good if somebody within the council could take some initiative and improve the place for the sake of the families that go there.
Positive experience: A good pool but the fun slide section is closed and has been since covid, nothing online to show this and couldn't get through on phone prior so only plain pool available so a little disappointed. Clean and tidy otherwise,
Negative experience: It's not a water place!!!! It's a shame dirty and disgusting place in Scotland!!! Not want a any star for this place!! Big pool but in use only 5x5 metres for all people's. Toilets are very disgusting and very messy!! Staff is Incompetent and not helpful!! Just waste our time and money there!! Never again!! Not recommended this place to anyone!!!!
Negative experience: Absolutely horrendous place to go for kids, constant excuses about the pool being closed, twice there was " the life guard called in sick " 3rd time " sorry there has been an incident this morning " , constant excuses and terribly rude staff members. I'm assuming nobody can be bothered cleaning the pool out or something. Left my son crying as he was excited to go into the pirate ship, which I'm assuming is very rarely open. I have called in advance hours before and have been told the kids pool was open, only to show up and get told very rudely that it's not. Awful place to go leaving kids very upset, women alongside me with her child who had learning disabilities also had called in advance and was told the same thing only to be let down her child was confused and didn't understand. AVOID!!!
Negative experience: It doesn't matter what time you go to the water palace it's either that the pool is not functional or they are in-an-dated with swimmin g lessons, You pay a membership fee which does allow you to use any other centers ran by south lanarkshire council but why should i need to travel when there is the water palace 5 mins from my home, I know that other sports centers cost an absolute fortune but i don't think there facilities have as much faults as this place.
Positive experience: Visited today with my wife and 2 year old son - wasn't sure based on sure of the negative comments here but we had a good time. Pool could be cleaner but the staff were all friendly and helpful. It is really hard to get information on what facilities are open though so that could definitely be improved - for reference the main pool and pirate ship were open but the flumes, lazy river and outdoor pool were not with no indication if/when they'd open again.
Negative experience: Absolutley horrific place to go in general but more so if you have children eight or above that do not swim. The Pirate ship is laughable its so small and its constantly monitored by staff who will interigate your child if they suspect they are over the age group. That leaves around 12 square feet of freezing cold dirty water in the main pool to use. Staff are rude.
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting pool, the pool staff were very rude to my son, he just turned 8 and was told to leave the pirate pool due to this, however there were numerous overweight lady's walking up and down the pirate ship, so if the reason it's over eight years is because of weight then that's a joke. The member of staff who approached my son has a major attitude problem and should not be working with the public. When I explained what happened to the so called manager he appeared more interested in pleating his ginger beard!... what an absolute joke of a so called water Palace, let's just say its getting more like the actual Palace nightclub than a kids pool. I'll never be back. Just don't go! Better travelling a bit further and go to Perth leasure pool.
Positive experience: Needs a good clean
Negative experience: Very dirty, the big pool is all full of green mould
Fantastic experience: the flumes have never been open whenever ive went for the 10 years
Negative experience: The flumes ect were all closed off. I wasn't allowed to take my boys into the middle pool with their dad 1.8m even though they are 9 and 11 and can swim comfortably plus we could stand in the water. You also have to pay for parking unless it is a Sunday. Won't be going back I'm afraid. Not worth it.
Positive experience: Disappointed that the slides/flumes are out of action and this wasn't mentioned on the website.
Negative experience: I went with my kids and wife today told by receptionist that slides are shut and the other pool also is shut and have been for a while not some much as a palace more of a let down. main pool is freezing and pirate ship is only for up to 8 year olds and is tiny and full of adults getting a heat. Wouldn't recommend
Negative experience: Hamilton swimming is shocking just on pool open and it the water was cold you wld think they wld tel people that
Negative experience: Terrible experience! Slides closed. Wrong information provided for age limit on pirate ship and mouldy pool floor all resulted in a very disappointed 8 year old!
Negative experience: Would not recommend, only pool is open & only allowed 1hour slot, then were being told to hurry up in the changing rooms as they were closing dryer was out of order & one of the hairdryers was missing
Positive experience: Pool good for kids showers need improvement
Positive experience: A solid 3 stars because I go there a lot despite the fact that I don't feel it's particularly sanitary. Since covid hit their second (heated) pool has been closed. There's been a few times that staff cleaning the floors will be standing talking while the floor is absolutely soaking. I would like them to add more non slip mats all the way through the halls and more around the pools edge. There aren't enough. Staff members at the tills have always been pleasant enough although seem wary of customers.
Negative experience: Absolutely shocking staff were a bit annoying I honestly do not recommend this place half of the attractions like the water slide and hot tub where closed water slide has been closed for 2 years this place is absolutely terrible they don’t let you go in the deep end even though you could be a confident swimmer and not to mention the fact that they yelled at me for being in the deep end even though im a great swimmer honestly do not go it is an absolute mess
Negative experience: Absalut shambles now, i was getting bad when the out door part was cloasd , now the flumes side watter and sona bits are all closed, there are only two sections open , thtas the big cold pool and the pirate ship for the smaller kids , not to mention that is starting to fall apart aswel, also you have to book it on the phone during the weekends , not on line and stand out side for a cold 20 min long waite , then your only alowed in for max 1 hr , and there hair drying machiene blows cold air, it really needs pulled down now and rebult asap, its no PALACE thats for sure its really really bad so bad , and not to mention so is all the other swimming in south lanarkshire , there all falling to bits ..shame full , in these days an absalut disgrace .. The staff are very good ...
Positive experience: What was open was good But when is the rest opening?
Fantastic experience: Great Gym friendly staff. Would Highly Recommend It.
Negative experience: Well to say straight it's going down hill no leisure pool open no kids pool open after watching atleast 10kids going for a swim . The big pool is over crowded and now it's fully booked for alot . Kind of pointless expedition if you ask me just now .
Fantastic experience: Just signed up to join the gym and it was such a friendly experience, and definitely great value for money
Fantastic experience: Lovely, spotless gymnot busy, everything sanitised after use! Friendly staff, did a 40 mins on treadmill ⛹⛹
Fantastic experience: Very nice friendly and helpful staff
Negative experience: The new system without booking is terrible (at weekends at least)... A certain number of people were allowed in at 1pm on Sunday when it reopened and then when the pool had apparently 'reached capacity' the staff did not come out to inform those of us waiting in the queue that we would have to wait for the people who had just gone in to finish their swim and leave before we'd be admitted. Terrible system, and terrible communication... Bring back booking slots for weekends/busy times.
Fantastic experience: First experience at a pool with our 16month old and the staff were great and made the experience the best it could be. I'd like to give a special thanks to Teresa and Ruraidh who were very kind and helpful.
Negative experience: Disappointed. Having been here regularly pre pandemic, our wee one was so excited to come back. Unfortunately the experience was soured by some poorly trained poolside staff who offered no assistance in the necessary changes to the locker areas (staring blankly as though we had fallen from the sky), which pools we could use and how long the session was to last. When we asked for guidance, the staff were either extremely abrupt or else didn't know. I understand that these precautions are for the benefit of all, but some training on how to communicate these changes in an empathetic manner is clearly needed. Suggest you look for alternative pools until Hamilton improve.
Fantastic experience: ITS GREAT!! Theres lots of diffrent thing to do slides, and many for !
Fantastic experience: Closed just now until 5th October when lane swimming will be available in mornings and afternoons. Great place for families with a ship to play in and separate pool, both 15m length for families to avoid deep water and everyone else in main 25m pool.
Negative experience: Decided to go to this swimming centre due to kids pool and also ment papa could go to the sauna too and relax. The steam room, kids pool and big flume where all closed. Didnt state that one the website as I checked before and the receptionist said she gave us a discount due to some services being closed. But papa who took my neice didnt receive a discount due to them not having kids to use the kids pool even though he had my 12 year old neice who would have used the flume and my dad for the steam room. Paying for half the service while you watch others infront of you get discounts my partner also managed to slice his big toe. On what we have no idea. Also only two hair dryers worked as the other was taking money and not turning on. Had to get the repair man to get my £1.20 and another womans £1 too. Just felt like more hassel then its worth
Negative experience: Went down the slide that goes out into the street, it snapped and all of a sudden I was doing the back stroke by the job centre
Negative experience: Wasted journey Checked what was on via website and drove through from Paisley and was told the leisure pool wasn't open all day at weekend for kids . Wasted journey. Was just told should have phoned . But website gave information saying it was open
Negative experience: Traveled 25 miles to find out the pool was shut . never said that on the website !
Negative experience: Really is going downhill rapidly. Leisure pool closed again for the second time in a couple months for repairs. Big flume has been closed for pretty much the whole summer. Sauna and steam room are intermittently closed. Last week the main showers were closed because the water was scalding people..! Fees go up and the service goes down, management and the council really need to take a long hard look at themselves and get the finger out and provide a service that is worth paying for.!
Negative experience: Have been to Hamilton water palace in years its definitely went down hill since the last time I was there Wont be back not worth the money have to pay for parking outside pool closed for indefinitely as it needs repairs and its costing to much money big flume was not working pool is dirty best place I would say is time capsule we bit more expensive but definitely worth it would give it a zero star If I could
Negative experience: So me and my friend had to swim in the big pool because the others were getting construction so me an my friend are just swimming and this lifegaurd comes up to me and my frien and say's can you guys swim so me and my friend showed i was a bit slow then the LIFE GAURD told my friend that he is not jumping in for me if u go under
Positive experience: Go here 3 times a week for the kids swimming club
Fantastic experience: Very good customer service and great place to go with kids as this is a fun place for a splash around with the kids or if you want a swim without having the kids annoying you you can as it has got a normal swimming pool for a leisurely swim and it has also got a wee kids play pool for the little ones with a big pirate ship for them with water features and it has also got a large fun pool for the bigger kids with slides and great water features. So all in all a great family-friendly place and has things for the whole family to do with great changing facilities
Negative experience: The place is filthy. We arrived at 9.20am and it was obvious the there had been no cleaning done prior to our visit. There were dirty plasters lying around, the floors were dirty. Even the medical room I had to take my son to was dirty, we will not be back
Fantastic experience: There is a large collection of water.... Good for the water enthusiast
Positive experience: Staff are very helpful and most welcoming
Fantastic experience: Fast becoming one of my daughter's favourite places. Great facilities for kids, with a whirlpool, slides and pirate ship. Can get a bit busy at times but a great place to spend a few hours
Positive experience: It's good but crowded
Positive experience: .ok but is getting a bit old repair wise
Negative experience: Hi on my visit to water palace , very busy, car parking impossible to get a space i was lucky got one on left hand side got kids out whent for swim came out to discover that I had a ticket for not displaying a ticket when enquired about ticket told it was up to me to check Cark park rules.told them it was busy and had kids all excited about there swim also concentrated on driving. also I didn't expect to pay for a council car park that I'm paying for entry. to make things worse returned to see signs to my horror warden outside car park waiting for cars going in parking then enter the building warden then go see over to check cars for tickets. I asked a selected car users if they new about park and display most where horrified they had to pay .
Positive experience: Went for a spin class, which was great.
Positive experience: We are regular visitors to Hamilton Water Palace. Staff seem friendly and the changing village is always clean and tidy. There's a flume, rubber ring ride, lazy river and jacuzzi in one section, with a children's pirate ship for younger children. There's also a full sized swimming pool for those who just want to swim. In the summer months there is an outdoor pool which is accessed directly from the main activity pool. There's some evidence of grime and maintenance issues in some of the fixtures and fittings near the flumes.
Fantastic experience: Been here since I was a kid, it's a good place
Positive experience: Great pool for kids and play good flumes and water slides
Negative experience: We drove for 30 minutes to get here only to be told they require one adult per child. Not having a spate adult with me, my two children and I were refused entry. I take my children swimming every weekend and I've always managed to keep them alive by myself. So thanks to the Hamilton Water Palace I now have two crying children in the back of the car.
Fantastic experience: We love it. Kids learn swimming here.
Positive experience: Good pool and facilities.
Positive experience: Disappointing gym with tiny changing room.
Positive experience: Great swimming pool with flumes, kids splash Park and more. Wish there were more like it closer to home!
Fantastic experience: Great place to spend an hour or two, friendly and helpful staff
Positive experience: Amazing swimming pool we have been before, but hadn't advertised correct opening hours so drove for over an hour to find it closed. They did kindly give us a free voucher to use at a later date
Positive experience: One of the few water parks in Scotland. Many water attractions are missing. The outdoor pool closed, a bit of a shame. Dryer at the pool pay 1 £. Filters in the dryer dirty and clogged, the air almost does not blow.
Positive experience: Changing rooms are disgusting. Otherwise the pool was good
Positive experience: Fun place for kids during the school holidays, but the interior of the building is in need of a overhaul. Flaking paint, rust etc etc, simple things like inflatable rings needing pumped up and staff looking like they enjoy their job, what a miserable lot. Overall my grandson enjoys it but.
Positive experience: Good pool but gym changing area is too small
Fantastic experience: Great for a casual swim
Fantastic experience: Great fun
Fantastic experience: A good place for spending time with a family.
Positive experience: Pirate ship, rapids and slides. Great fun for kids. Separate 25m pool with lanes for some training too. Bit dated and changing rooms could use a deep clean, and they seem to skimp on heating the baby pool sometimes, but most of the time we've had a ball and haven't wanted to leave.
Positive experience: Good for young kids
Fantastic experience: Staff amazing. Very helpful Thanx Guyz x
Positive experience: Had a fun afternoon with the kids. Unfortunately the water fountains for the kids to play with were either broken or switched off. I think it could do with a little revamp. Also not much clearance at the bottom of the rubber ring slide as people wait at the bottom they can get bashed into.
Fantastic experience: I took my great grand son over 5yers old swimming
Fantastic experience: Staff very helpful & friendly. Gym staff supportive & encouraging
Positive experience: Good pool always warm in and out of the water !
Positive experience: baby pool doesn't open until 10.
Positive experience: Great fun for my kids loved the place and I enjoyed it to nice gym facility
Fantastic experience: My daughter loves it here
