Our comment from FitFit UK about Maidstone Leisure Centre:
Maidstone Leisure Centre is a family-friendly destination that offers a variety of activities, including an impressive soft play area and a fun pool that kids absolutely love. The centre has gone through renovations that have brightened some aspects, particularly in the gym facilities, which are well-equipped and offer various membership options.
Highlights:
- Fantastic soft play for children, with brilliant slides that are a hit among the younger visitors.
- Family swim sessions that can provide an enjoyable outing for all ages.
- Friendly and helpful staff who are often commended for their assistance.
- A variety of membership options available for different preferences.
- Ample parking with a complimentary three-hour parking allowance.
Areas for Improvement:
- Booking system is frequently criticized as confusing and inefficient, leading to long wait times and a poor user experience online.
- Maintenance issues with dirty changing rooms and inadequate cleaning standards have been reported.
- Many of the pools and attractions can be closed without prior notice, causing disappointment for families planning visits.
- Facilities, such as the cafeteria, often lack adequate food options and can be overpriced.
- Staff training could improve customer service experiences, particularly during busy periods.
While there are several areas needing attention, Maidstone Leisure Centre still offers a variety of fun activities suitable for families. It retains a nostalgic charm that many visitors remember fondly, making it a place with potential, even if some aspects currently fall short of expectations.
Services, Machines and Guided Classes
Maidstone Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Dirty, ceiling pouring ,booking system is absolute trash, refurbishment was just wasted money (not adding benefits to adults,no jakuzz or sauna,no extra classes or availability to the best coaches) 3 years reporting a problem with the booking system but still not solved….. New entrant check it system is in constant problem…
Negative experience: The website to book is absolutely rubbish! I’ve never registered before and when I book it says your email is not known! Even when I try to register it says that and you can’t checkout as a guest either even though the option is there! Useless website even more useless staff!!! Weren’t helpful on the phone at all!!!
Fantastic experience: Amazing soft play and family pool. Cannot fault it at all
Negative experience: Disgusting they discriminate on people with a disability. Let people who have a disability use a damn snorkel!
Negative experience: Terrible customer service experience my boyfriend had on the phone. He asked for help as there were issues with the system online, and was told to wait, to later hear discreet laughing from individuals on call about a simple enquiry he just made. They seemed to realized we were still on call, as they quickly hung up. Should consider hiring maturer and professional people.
Negative experience: I go for swimming here . Its a very fun experience until you get to the part where a dance class takes up basically the WHOLE entire deep end and we get nothing to do apart from play in a 20 cm shallow end for the reset of the time.
Positive experience: After a 20-year hiatus, I recently revisited Maidstone Leisure Centre, and I must say, it felt like stepping back in time. Not much has changed – and I mean that both as a compliment and as constructive feedback. Let’s start with the good stuff: the soft play. It’s absolutely brilliant for the kids – a labyrinth of fun where they can climb, slide, and burn off enough energy to guarantee a quiet car ride home. As for the slides? Iconic. No exaggeration – they’re a piece of local history. Hurtling down one of those speedy slides is practically a rite of passage in Maidstone. They’re as exhilarating as I remember, though as an adult, you do question how the physics of landing gracefully at the bottom ever seemed plausible. Now, the rest of the centre… well, it’s fine. Functional. It’s got a slightly dated charm, like a pair of well-worn trainers – comfortable, dependable, but in need of a refresh. It’s clean enough, though some of the decor seems to be holding out for the 90s to come back in style. Overall, it’s an “okay” experience. The kids will have a blast, and if you squint past the peeling paint and retro vibes, you’ll probably enjoy the nostalgia. Just don’t expect state-of-the-art – Maidstone Leisure Centre is more about memories than modernity.
Positive experience: A great time had by all
Negative experience: Soft play very good quality but no room at all for parents to sit and watch over the kids playing. Was packed and unbearable. Extremely hot too
Positive experience: Went to see the disabled swimming club, the facilities have greatly improved since I was last there. Only a few minor issues, firstly the entire building was absolutely boiling! So hot that u HAVE to buy the drinks from the vending machine which are extremely overpriced. Another issue is the hair drying area is a walkway which I don't believe is wide enough for anyone trying to dry their hair and allow a wheelchair or similar to get by without having to move each time. Apart from these two small things the facilities are great.
Negative experience: The cleaning and maintenance standards at Maidstone Leisure Centre are shockingly poor. Having seen my fair share of poorly managed leisure facilities, I was genuinely surprised by how bad this one is. Piles of litter, dirty floors, and missing or unsafe seats in the public gallery pose a significant safety hazard, particularly concerning given the presence of a swimming pool where regular competitions are held. The disappointment extends to the car park, which is equally mismanaged. The local council seems more focused on issuing £100 parking fines than addressing the real issues: at least 40% of the lamp posts are either faulty or flickering, and the uneven pavements make navigating the area a real hazard, especially on dark, rainy November evenings. Sadly, this seems symptomatic of a broader decline in infrastructure across the country.
Negative experience: I had a pleasure to attend the Family Swim with my wife and two kids after the renovation. Changhing rooms were dirty and it was absolutely freezing in the family pool area.
Positive experience: The new renovation is amazing for the gym! There are 3 floors and the prices are okay for what you are receiving- and I like the option of different memberships (swim only, gym only, swim and gym and swim, gym and classes) as well as 12 month contract, or a rolling monthly contract. I also believe they do student discount and diving only memberships (but I’m not 100% sure on those two.) I did see a sign they will renovate the changing rooms December/ January. However I feel like the shower bit could benefit from refurbishment or just a bit of freshening up (more so than the changing rooms)- in my opinion. Staff are very friendly and supportive and will answer any questions!
Negative experience: Went with my sons family. The leisure pool air temp was too cold. My 18 month old grandsons teeth were chattering all the time he was there. I hadn't been for a number of years but I think the changes to the pool make it less attractive. The rapids and waterfall have gone along with the water shute. The jacuzzi is replaced with a paddling pool. The cost to attend are too high (9.95 per adult) considering the facilities. Cannot reccomend.
Fantastic experience: Very nice place to spend quality time with family… perfect for family activities..
Negative experience: Swimming pools always overcrowded. The main pool bed usually very dirty. Half of showers not working. The improvement for Laguna pools was waste of money. Shame they removed slide, biggest attraction for kids.
Negative experience: Im very pleased to say how good the customer service is at this leisure centre. Last Monday I had to rebook my session because my little one had chickenpox, and today I was about to rebook again because she’s still got it. The only way to do it it’s through the phone if you not a member. They don’t send you any confirmation what so ever. When I called today I was kindly informed that I’m not booked at all thank you to well trained person who helped me at first time. I will never come here again.
Positive experience: Did soft play and activity pool. Soft play very good, but very warm and limited seating areas for parents by the actual soft play area. Not many showers worked in the swimming pool changing area which was the only issue.
Negative experience: Took my 2 small children aged under 4 swimming here for the first time I was shocked how cold the pools where especially the baby pool my children’s lips turned purple so we left before our time was up. For the price I don’t think this is good enough. I gave 1 star as the reception ladies were nice and informative but we won’t be in a rush to go back. Heat the baby pools!!!!!!!!
Negative experience: Went to the new soft play they spent thousands doing up.... the actual soft play is really good. I do however have issues with health and safely and lack of staff. For the 1.5 hours I was there I saw 4 kids hurt by the slide I also saw kids trying to climb up the slide and also coming down with no crash helmets on as there is no1 supervising the kids on the slide. There's a young lad who works there he was run off his feel behind the small counter out attending to injured kids his a great little worker. Can't say the same for the young girl working Tuesday 29th she done very little and had the young boy doing it all. All the tables were dirty had to clean them b4 being able to sit down and it's also so loud and boiling hot due to it being where others are swimming so defo not a place to go to in the summer. All in all it's a good soft play the kids loved it however health and safety defo need looking at esp with the new slide.!!
Fantastic experience: Roller skating disco and roller skating competition at the leisure centre
Negative experience: Old and not well cleaned. Could be so much better than it is if they spent money on maintaining their facilities rather than just the leisure pool and the soft play
Negative experience: Attended the Family Fun swim this weekend. Two adults and two children for 90 minutes swim was just under £40. I have to say we probably wouldn't re-attend. This being because as you're going in to start your session the previous session is finishing, therefore there is no changing rooms and hoards of people. The lockers are £1 however some of them don't work or the key doesn't have a band, so you have to carry the key around with you the whole time in your hand. Once in the pool, the water is tepid at best. There is one slide for babies and one slighter bigger slide for all. There is water guns and a 'splash park' area which is quite fun. The best bit about the whole experience is of course the wave machine which go on ever 20 minutes or so. The waves are very big however for a tiny size pool area, you're all bunched up with everyone else and flying into eachother. When the waves aren't on there is free floats that are great fun. I would recommend getting out 15 mins earlier before your slot finishes to avoid the mad rush, and bag a changing room. There is no individual showers, no hooks in the changing rooms for clothes/bags etc and were generally dirty. All this said, I do not think the value for money is very good, especially as you have to pay separately to then go into the soft play (£10 per child)
Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience meeting Laura in Sales at Maidstone Leisure Centre & Jennifer her colleague on reception. They could not have been more helpful, warm, friendly & informative if they'd tried!! I'm very much looking forward to starting in the gym in Monday & then trying the excellent classes like Aqua Therapy. I'd highly recommend this Leisure Centre to all! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Negative experience: Extremely bad experience. We came for swimming, I specifically asked if everything is open before I went in, I was told only the shallow end and splash pad was open, after 25 minutes of being in the pool was told we had to get out, £28 for 25 minutes of swimming! children were not interested in the splash pad, plus it's so cold you can't actually just play in their without freezing. So we got out. I asked to speak to the manager, she told me her colleague advised me on entering it shut at 12pm, when he had not, so basically she was calling me a liar, if I was aware why was I so upset about the situation, and why did I get out? If I had spent another hour in the splash pad then complained I would have understood it wasn't a valid complaint, the receptionist then butt in unnecessarily and said I heard him say it, when in fact she wasn't even there when we entered, so had two people telling me I was a liar. I told them I wanted to go into the soft play to make up to my children the disappointment to the day and make up for the time I had lost on swimming, this could have been very easily rectified, turning around a very bad situation, But no she was rude and "agreed" to 15 minutes in the soft play, making me even more upset. The whole thing was delt with badly leaving a very bitter taste in my mouth about our experience. I did not demand a refund, I just wanted to take the kids into soft play which is half the cost of swimming to make up for the time I had lost, this is far from unreasonable. I should have got a full refund for how badly this was delt with, it didn't need to be the case at all. A very angry customer indeed. Go to Larkfield much better facilities, and no lack of communication, everything is very clear and staff nice.
Positive experience: Good, tends to be a bit crowded, but ok!
Fantastic experience: What an adventure.. We booked Aqua Challenge pool party in here and it was absolute fun.. Everyone in our group enjoyed to the core.. Great staff.. Great arrangements.. Will surely plan another one soon..
Negative experience: Some fun bits for the younger kids in the leisure pool but other than that it was tired and run down. My eyes were stinging whilst in the pool and we all know why that happens, the changing rooms on my visit were cold and dirty with mud trodden through them.
Positive experience: Booked for the splash pad for me and my children. Did not realise that during the week and before 4pm this means that the main children's pool was not open but I digress, we still had a great time. The new splash pad was amazing and my children are already asking to go back.
Positive experience: We went to see the new refurb which was great lots of fun things for the kids to play on. The price is too high for what it is and the cafe food options are limited. The lifeguard at the pool was rude to my kids they had said they wasn't allowed floats whilst the waves were on and even tried to shout at me but there was no information anywhere to say this and my kids were just playing in the shallow part.
Negative experience: Poor website information, can never get through by phone with no hold message/answerphone to say what is going on. It felt like the phones were not working but instead there is insufficient staff to respond to calls. Surely if your likes are that busy, you could do with better information on your website. The timetable is not helpful if you do not know what the titles swimming categories mean. Wanted to take my young baby swimming, but the pools that used to be for babies is no longer open and the only option is a few hours on a couple of mornings in the large fun pool which is not suitable. Why is there such limited access for a safe warm swim for babies. Off to Larkfield instead who can cater easily for babies. 1 star as not able to use the facilities
Positive experience: Always love going swimming with my little family. My son is almost 8 months old. Haven’t been in a while as the renovation was being done. Looks good and everything I only had one problem and that was when the waves came on. It was so dangerous and my little boy went under the water about 4 times before I managed to get him and myself out. I wasn’t expecting it to be as bad as it was as there was absolutely no warning from the lifeguards. Feel like there should be some sort of announcement and warning before they start as I genuinely thought my boys life was in danger.
Negative experience: Firstly, a lady had her phone taking videos and picture in the pool and pad area because she signed a consent form, seem very strange with young kids in swimming costumes running around. If this was a man doing this then you'll hear about it then, got to love double standard. I understand it's public so filming on the street is allowed for example but surely safeguarding here has not been thought about. The pool is only open to 4pm. Online is not clear about splash pad and swimming being separate. We wasn't the only ones dissatisfied, a lot of other parents started talking and thought it was ridiculous, especially when you could see 4 lifeguards staff standing around doing nothing. Why couldn't they sit around the pool? What's stopping them?
Fantastic experience: First time here, we came for the new renovation for splash pool and the TOTEM. My 4 year old loved it. The wave pool towards the end was a great addition. He loved the soft play as well. Got busy when trying to get changed as people wanted to get changed to get in to there session as people was leaving there session I guess not enough family rooms and maybe a 10 minute gap between might help alleviate it. But would definitely recommend. Coming again soon.
Fantastic experience: The new splash pool is so much nicer than the old pool. Kids young and old have really enjoyed using it. Glad they changed time back to an hour and a half. We have also enjoyed the aqua challenge.
Fantastic experience: Plenty of parking and very tidy excellent service. Even a squirrel greeted us lol.
Negative experience: Being disabled the centre is good at accommodating, but the old man swim instructor was rude to me, as he told us to get out after I jumped in unknown to us it was shutting within ten mins. The water wasn't cold either which is gutting for us. The changing rooms are dirty and the toilets. The showers don't work STILL! No access to the small kids pool, no access to the lagoon pool, or diving boards, or jacuzzi as they're all ripped out still and not usable, and frankly reception staff was the only nice part off tonight's visit. Even though they could of saved me time and said it was shutting. But the girls are always smiling. Def needs more than the pools being done.
Fantastic experience: Such a fab day spent with the family at the leisure centre, I’d also like to give an extra credit to Kerry who was so helpful with my enquires on the phone - thank you Kerry!
Positive experience: Went to Maidstone leisure centre today with my son to celebrate his classmates birthday. There was a soft play and really good slide present which the kids really enjoyed. The centre was hot on safety so all the kids going down this slide had to wear helmets. Was enjoyable with an area for parents to sit down and watch the kids play.
Positive experience: The pool was freezing cold! We came on a weekend in the hope the slide, wave pool and rapids would be on but they weren't. The baby/toddler pool was shut too which again was one of the main reasons we brought family with us! No one told us that this was all shut, we left feeling very disappointed.
Positive experience: One of the staff not naming names but was nicknamed (Dobby) asked my friend what was wrong with her just because my friend didn't want to run over the ducks with her dragon boat. The pedelo was not clean, dead insects covered the surface as well as nothing was sanitized. I didn't get the boat I wanted, I wanted the purple dragon (number 22) and I got 27. I felt as if the staff member, running the kayaking was quite rude. The Aussie guy was WAY more charming then the other staff! Overall I had an incredible day. I will definitely be taking my kids back there one day! Highly recommended!!
Fantastic experience: We went here over the late May bank holiday and it was excellent, definitely reccomend. We went for a family swim session at 10am and while we weren't able to purchase/ secure our tickets online, we called and informed the desk that we were having trouble and they booked the slots for us and we were able to pay upon arrival. The kids (and us!) really enjoyed the swimming, the lifegaurds were patrolling the area and were kind enough to share extra floats with the kids. Some things about swimming that will be helpful to know (and wish we would;ve known): -there are areas in the pool and slides for older kids and younger kids, and even a tiny tots area with very shallow water and a tiny slide -they have family changing rooms, excellent space for all to change before and after. -bring a pound to use for a locker, they have plenty available in different sizes -they have hair dryers on site to dry hair if needed -apparently they hav ea service where you can have your/your children's photos taken, we didn't avail of this but imagine it would be a wonderful memory to take back. Other helpful notes: -loads of parking -a softplay available, i think for an extra charge -loads of clean bathrooms around the facility -food /snack bar available (though we didnt visit it so don't know the details Overall, I would definitely recommend and would certainly come back when we're in the area.
Negative experience: I got fined £60 for exceeding the 3 hours free parking by 14 minutes when I was doing the Swimathon charity swim. I would urge all swimmers to think twice about using this facility.
Negative experience: Very disappointed, went for a casual swim to find out that I need to book in advance to be able to use the swimming pool this is information is not clear anywhere, useless not coming back again
Negative experience: Worst place ever my friend was drowning life guard saw and didnt help (I rescued her) me cuzins birthday and didnt do anything about it impolite staff gave me cuzins and friends rashes and brusies my skin went pale and made my hair dry bathrooms stinked I have long hair and hairdryers never worked some showers never worked a girl kicked my cousin and said she didnt kick her slides wasn’t open neither was the play area VERY dirty Never going again I went 10th may 2024
Positive experience: Joined to go swimming. Pool is huge and lots of great facilities. Only negative is the lifeguards don’t always step in when people are clearly in the wrong lane and causing problems for other swimmers. Skating and other classes are fun too. I haven’t tried the gym yet.
Fantastic experience: The leisure center is truly remarkable and deserves appreciation. It offers a sizable car park with a generous three hours of complimentary parking, although it lacks facilities for electric vehicle charging. The swimming pool is magnificent, featuring thrilling slides that ensure an enjoyable aquatic experience. Additionally, there are excellent options for sports and a well-equipped gym. My daughter is currently enrolled in volleyball classes at this facility.
Negative experience: Cold water, only a section of the lagoon pool open. Dirty and it smelt terrible. Expensive trip for a 20 minute stay as my baby got too cold in the water.
Positive experience: It’s okay, but it could be so much better. I took two kids swimming after school in the family pool. We were there for 90 minutes and the waves didn’t come on once. The flume and lazy pool were closed and the jacuzzi type pool had no bubbles going at any stage. It costs the best part of £20 for an adult and two children, so it would be nice if everything was working. On the plus side the changing rooms were clean and the life guards were watching everything going on.
Negative experience: We’ve been a few times for toddler swim, generally in the cold side and only managed to stay in for 30mins at a time before we were both too cold. Lots of lockers broken, generally very average experience.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff and helpful.Place was clean and tidy with good facilities.Lots of parking for everyone for 3 hours free time.
Fantastic experience: I visited the main fun pool today and I got told at first they was booked untill 3 pm on arrival it was 11 am but luckily they had enough room for Me and my best mate to enter and well as of the pool though Well where do I start, water was nice walm and clean. The changing rooms was nice and fresh as was the toilets the staff were very approachable and friendly but there is one I really would like to say was really nice to me and my best mate her name was poppy she helped me and my best mate while we done a water slide race to see who was the fastest and was just generally really nice so happy about that xx ♥️♥️♥️ Definitely coming again
Negative experience: Unfortunately at present it is no we're near what it used to be, I phoned the day before to make sure everything was open and was assured it was I booked and after traveling from Margate I found flumes shut, no lane swimming, no diving boards, and no waves or rapids must say was a bit of a disappointment such a shame as was not so long ago a lovely place to go.
Fantastic experience: Took our children here aged 3 and 5 and they had a fantastic time on the slides and in the play area. Whilst we enjoyed a coffee and cake from the cafe. Pool looked good and we shall return for another afternoon out.
Negative experience: The cleaning staff are very bad. In the morning, one finds dirty study floors, mirrors that have not been cleaned for half a year, if not more.In the children's swimming pool, I noticed dirty floors early in the morning. There are patches floating in the water, and the changing cabins are not clean.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place and friendly staff. We go there often with kids and the water is always warm. Nice clean showers. Staff are very helpful and approachable. Thank you.
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting. Faeces, urine, food and nauseating smells from the changing rooms. Diabolical hygiene standards throughout. We refused to swim and walked straight back out. Staff are young and inexperienced. One laughed and joked at the foul changing areas making comments about avoiding the swim areas and choosing to work at the soft play instead. Unacceptable all round.
Negative experience: Absolute bunch of wollies. I counted that I called them 15 times on a Monday morning trying to book my little girl in for the baby swimming session. No answer....15 times! So we decided to just go there only told at reception that it was then closed. I explained I called 15 times and the guy at the desk goes "oh sorry the phone was on silent" are you for real?? whatever happen to just turning up to swimming pool and going for a swim...Now it's book a slot for this slot for that. What nonsense is this...
Negative experience: The kids had fun but the place is very run down and has only 1 slide which I’ve never seen open. Viewing area seats are nearly all broken and there was rubbish left everywhere.
Negative experience: Cafe inside the centre has no price tags on most of items and you will be buying food blindly not knowing how much you need to pay. You will pay £7.65 for polar slides ticket to find out they have no spare helmets at the moment. At the entrance there's always a queue, either someone's paying card and system is not working or paying cash and they haven't got change. Whoever runs this place needs a good performance review.
Negative experience: Travelled some way to get here for a family swim but slides and lazy river closed. No pre warning. With two autistic children who would have only been able to use the river due to the number of inflatables being thrown around, this was a huge disappointment, ruining a half term treat. Also no wave machine. Toilets were a disgrace, as was the state of the changing facilities. Fewer than half of showers work, which has been a long term issue. Such a shame this place has gone downhill so bad.
Negative experience: Disappointing. Took family of nine there yesterday alll the way from Herne Bay. The lazy river and flumes were shut. This seems to be a regular occurrence reading the reviews. It was crowded and cold which a few people were complaining about. Some of the showers wasnt working. There were plenty of attendants standing around too.
Negative experience: Had to recently cancel myself and my partners membership due to one of the Gym instructors. the older bald guy approached my girlfriend twice in a confrontational way saying that she can’t carry a rucksack on her shoulder whilst she was standing there and waiting for me to finish my workout for less than 2 minutes. I see lots of kids in the gym who just Chuck their bags and coats all over the gym floor to the point of me actually tripping up over them when trying to get to a locker. But we won’t be returning due to the aggressive gym instructor and his unfriendly approach . Management really should have investigated my complaint when it was made.
Negative experience: Pool was a disappointing. Lazy river and flume was closed, we were not told this when booking. Went there for my daughters birthday treat. Could have gone to another pool as she asked for a fun pool with flume.
Negative experience: the changing rooms to the swimming area really smell strongly of urine, the pools are good though. I would highly recommend they clean the changing area as its really disgusting.
Negative experience: Dirty and stinking, and general showers without cabins are really disgusting. Swimming lines are always busy because lessons are taking place
Positive experience: Exciting place with lots of activities. But the few of the staff lack the knowledge about customer care
Fantastic experience: Firstly, part of the reason I signed up was purely because of Laura and Jill. Secondly, the price is fantastic compared to others. £34 odd a month for gym, pool and classes? I used to pay £78 a month for that at Nuffield Health and their pool and sauna was usually off. This place has it all, 3 separate gym areas depending what you're training for, hiit classes, aqua classes, cafe, lap pool and friendly staff. The borough council need to reinvest in this and not more houses. The potential here is phenomenal. If you're local or not (I drive 30minutes) this place is great with friendly staff. The pools are cold....but any gym all over the world that offers pools will be cold...that's why you swim to warm up. In terms of members, this is the first gym since arriving in the UK 7years ago that doesn't have ego lifters and men and women can just do their own thing in peace.
Negative experience: Used to be good went horribly wrong, drive yourself to Larkfiels thank me later
Positive experience: Great large leisure center with an inviting pool. Went there to see an Exteme Robots show in the large hall. Good seating and acoustics but the 4G signal often has a hard time reaching you in there...
Positive experience: Always smells and looks nice and clean. However the changing rooms need to be better situated. Seem miles from everything
Positive experience: Can get very busy in the pool, changing areas for the pool could be better. Few people take notice of no outdoor shoes in this area and there is some confusion over changing room/cubicle when school and baby sessions are taking place.
Negative experience: No Diving boards to general public only for Diving lesson sessions. Limited time for all swimming only 90mins. And not everything is open to what they tell you. Terrible place gone way down hill. Avoid! Avoid! Save money go else where.
Positive experience: It's OK, lost a star because the wifi is shocking all of a sudden, which makes things a bit dull if you're waiting for the kids to enjoy their swim and the mobile phone signal is no good.
Negative experience: Used to be outstanding. On our most recent trip though there is now a wristband policy which gives you 1,5 hrs for a slightly higher price. On this trip as well, the wave machine was broken, Lazy river not flowing, children’s pools closed. Diving pool closed and large pool booked out for a party. No one said a thing and there want even a sign. The only reason for the 2 stars is that the children still really enjoyed themselves!
Negative experience: Visited with 10yr old & 4 month old and the leisure centre was not the cleanest, the pools had used plasters, a cap for a infant milk bottle and eyelashes furthermore the showers were weak, nead descaling! I would not go again not recommended.
Negative experience: I would NOT recommend MLC for GYM or the swimming pools. It has extremely poor hygiene, with poor facilities. They Gym is over subscribed with lack of available equipment, Many machines broken. The Membership is very misleading and they tie you into a long committed membership, They do not advise of the T&Cs till after you have signed up. When it comes to cancelling their customer services is appalling, So you just need to call a hundred times, In the hope you can reach one of their basic staff members. I hope this post prevents another person sharing this poor experience. The whole place needs to knocked down and revamped, With competent staff.
Negative experience: Took my 2 year old to go swimming waited in the q to be told that you now have to book online to enter and is fully booked. Was told they have implemented this to stop the q but you still have to q to get in. I recently took her swimming here and did not see anything about online booking soon and even the website does not say online booking only. I instead took her to lark field swimming centre which turns out to be a better swimming centre as it has water slides we could both go down as the one in Maidstone we was not allowed.had wave machine which I have not seen in Maidstone and felt a lot cleaner and now will use this as my go to swimming centre.
Fantastic experience: Great pool, clean facilities. Right next to the park which we visited for a picnic. Made a day of it. Recommend
Fantastic experience: The kids love going here. Aqua challenge then swimming in the fun pool... great summer holiday fun at reasonable prices. I'm grateful they always have plenty of life guards on duty at one time. Very reassuring.
Negative experience: What a waste of time phoned last week was told just turn up and there was no time limit and would be £27 Turned up today to be told you can only stay for 1:30 hours same price because head office has changed the way they want to operate I have been coming to this leisure centre every month for nearly a year I will not be returning
Negative experience: Save your time and money and go somewhere else, here’s why. : We called in the morning to check the booking process, and the woman on the phone said that we didn’t have to book and sessions for every 90 minutes. So we planned our day around it and decided to go in at 3 o’clock for the 90 minutes session. When we got there, there was a queue of about 10 families all waiting to go swimming. We got in line and waited there for about 15 minutes and we still hadn’t moved up one space in the line. We spoke to the woman at the counter as we were confused why lots of people were coming out of the swimming pool but no one was going in. We explained to the woman at the desk that we had called, and the woman on the other line has told us that we didn’t need to book and we can come in straight away for a 90 minute session. We waited another 20 minutes and by this point, we were all tired of waiting and wanted to know why the line hadn’t moved. we asked yet again why the line hadn’t moved, and we were told that management had decided to let people stay as long as they wanted instead of the 90 minute session that day. The woman at the reception said that we would get in once people started coming out but at least 30 people how to come out in the last 10 minutes and still the line hadn’t moved. Splash area was closed, Jacuzzi wasn’t working, wave machine was closed , lazy river closed. The music was way too loud and clearly the only people who like it were the lifeguards (all teenagers) who were bopping along to the music and seemed to be in their own world and weren’t paying attention to the people in the pool. Another 20 minutes later, we were finally let in after speaking to the manager multiple times. When we got in, we were shocked to see that only one of the 6 pools were open, and the lazy river was not open either. And when queueing we were told that the lifeguards were doing headcount every five minutes to check how many people are in the pool, but when we were in the pool they were clearly not counting. The first receptionist told us we could have an adult free because we had to wait so long but the second one took pity on us and said that we had been waiting long enough and let us all in for free. Even after going through all the hassle just to get into the pool. We only spent about 15 minutes in the pool as we were so disappointed with this facility. on our way out. We were highly disappointed with all of this as we had planned our whole day around it with a long drive to Lincolnshire after swimming. Please save your money and your time and find somewhere else to swim. Hope this helps.
Positive experience: Unfortunately undergoing work. Hopefully will extend to the changing areas - many cubicles have broken locks, the floor is slippery despite the efforts of the staff and the disabled toilets are often out of order. Pools are cold and a bit uninspiring. Cafe is OK for snacks but hot food isn't healthy or particularly appetising. On a plus side the staff are lovely
Negative experience: This was a painful experience from start to finish. Unable to book the water assault course online for some imaginary reason that they kept telling us they were liaising with management over, but also wouldn't take the booking over the phone. Several times we were told they were too busy to talk to us on the phone. Eventually someone did take our booking, but when they established that we weren't members that were very put out and made it known, that it was very inconvenient to book now as all 9 of us would have to join as members. Eventually arrived on the day and only 4 slots had been reserved and it was now full. Fortunately the manager, Nick, helped and agreed access etc. Once inside the changing rooms were clean and a good time had by all.
Positive experience: Lovely big pool and large fun pool for the kids. Also has a soft play area and Cafe. Plenty of parking and places to walk the dogs.
Positive experience: We spent a brilliant 4 hours here and did the splash pool, ice slides and soft play. Everything was open in the pool with the flume, waves and creek all working and well lifeguarded. Ice slides and soft play brilliant too with relaxed atmosphere and no time limit. Lovely staff. A much better experience than a few months ago.
Fantastic experience: Had a wonderful time swimming but had a bad experience in the changing room leading to a panic attack, Tracy on the front desk was very helpful and a young life guard brought me a bottle of water, all in all it was great to have such a responsive team and a good time swimming
Positive experience: Better then other gyms in Maidstone. And you can swimm as well. Price is correct. The team is friendly. Parking on the weekend sometimes is a challenge :)
Positive experience: We attended the leisure centre on a private event, the whole area was hired out just for us. The children had an hour in the soft play which seemed to fly by then an hour in the pool. Without going into any details I encountered an issue whilst in the pool, the life guards were incredible and really helped me and kept an eye the whole time. The life guards definitely went above and beyond. A lot of the vending machines were unavailable too and the cafe were encouraging issues with their payment machine.
Fantastic experience: Hosted my son’s 9th birthday here today. We used the aqua park. The kids had a fantastic time (ages 7-13) attended. I was so impressed by the helpful, friendly staff, from the moment I enquired about the event, to when we arrived. The ladies on reception, the cafe staff, the event planner and the life guards were amazing. Thank you for making his day so special! I would definitely recommend the venue and the staff. Thanks
Negative experience: Visited with my daughter for a 5th birthday party, was denied slide action due to being 1 inch shorter then the required hight; however a shorter younger boy was already on the slide and when questioned the reply was " we can tell when they walk up to us" when clearly they can not and was negligent in Thier health and safety roles (I will add the members of staff are only teenagers) we asked to speak with the manager about this situation, unfortunately they are too busy to do Thier job! This brings me to the so called cafe, 4 members of staff that are more concerned about chatting and actually doing a job and had to be prompted to serve a customer that was clearly waiting! Not the best experience at a venue!
Negative experience: I visited with my son for the family swim sessions between 10am- 12pm each weekday. We arrived at 10:15am and we were told it was full, which was very disappointing and I struggle to understand how on a normal school day, the pool got full within 15 minutes! We were told we could wait for someone to leave, but being that they’d only just opened I imagined it would have been quite a while before anyone left, and that would’ve taken our time in the pool down even further, as you only have until midday before they close again, so we left. We will try again another day and aim to get there for 10am and hopefully we will get in!
Negative experience: Took the family for a swim today. The changing rooms were dirty, diving pit was closed, depending on who was asked excuses being, 1 the lowest spring board was out of commision and 2 lack of staff. Also the two learner pools were closed and main pool was closed. Only the lagoon was open and over crowded. I would not call it swimming just bobbing in over chloronated water. Very disapointed is a understatement as i grew up coming to mote park and the standards of the place have dramatically have dropped while prices dont make it value for money.
Negative experience: Let me start by saying I’ve rated this venue poor not because of the facilities but because of the hygiene and cleanliness! The lagoon/fun pool was great kids loved it water is warm, they had slide, waves and floats all going which was great even had good music playing to get you in the spirit of summer and top it all it wasn’t to busy/overcrowded. The changing rooms and showers were of an ok standard but you can see in places they are tired some hairdryers weren’t working. We went to the cafeteria after and the only got food they sold was chips which is something I suppose when we received our portion of chips was a fair price for the portion you got but the quality was awful the chips were way overcooked and inside were still raw they looked like they had been cooked in old oil so I sent them back and got a refund. The toilets downstairs in the dingy tired unclean Polar Adventure/ adventure slides are a lot to be desired I went into the ladies and walked straight back out and ade a complaint straight away, the smell of urine was overpowering, one of the toilets was out of order and the other one had used sanitary towels all around the toilet on the floor it was disgusting on reporting it the young girl did go into the toilets to clean them. Irrespective of this they should’ve been cleaned and checked regularly in order for this not to have happened. Overall this place is only recommended for the Swimming and the soft play in my opinion Just don’t use the toilet or make sure you take lots of sanitiser with you and definitely don’t buy any chips from their café
Negative experience: Waited over an hr to swim!!!!!! because of a function on, staff were less than helpful, stress from staff was off loading on customers, poor planning by management and wasn't first time its happened, need to introduce wristbands system, clean the toilets PLACE STINKS OF URINE!, need shower slips introduced, u WILL walk in wee! Never is all facilities available, had to shut the slide last time because I pointed out wasn't safe, this time the rapids were shut, call before u drive 40miles to be disappointed an no offer of any discounts. Not happy. Management sort it out!
Positive experience: Took my kids for a party in the soft play area. Was clean, well kept and the kids enjoyed it. Only downside was because everything is located in one huge room you feel like you're in a steam room for the entire time you're there. Good place to go with kids and a very good amount of vending machines dotted around.
Fantastic experience: Very nice place, staff are friendly and helpful, one of the best family choice
Fantastic experience: Excellent up to date large gym with personal trainers and polite receptionist, great swimming pools for fitness or fun. Many other varied activities including pilates. Highly recommend.
Positive experience: Great works being finished to upgrade the park
Negative experience: Brought my neice down for a swim at 10am Tuesday. Was told the fun pool won't be opening till 4pm, only lane pools open. Bit disappointed but thought okay we'll go in the fun lane. Walked through to see the fun lanes are closed for swimming lessons?! So only slow and fast swim lanes. How is that any good for kids? Just see two women with little kids get chucked out the fun pool, obviously wasn't told it's only lane swim as I very much doubt they'd brought their toddlers down for the lane pool. Thing is the price of swimming is expensive, and what are we paying for exactly?! Not even half the pools are open?! It's just as bad at the weekend, okay fun pool opens at 10am weekends but the rapids aren't open so once again half the pool shut. It's such a shame as I've been coming here since I was a young girl and I always remember it being so great here. It's just continued to go down hill and I don't see it getting any better at this point. I'll give one star for the free parking.
