Positive experience: I enjoyed a good workout in the gym today plenty of room loads of machines & free weights. Then onto the rowing machine, bike & treadmill. The only downside was walking into the men's shower room after my workout already hot & sweaty it was like walking into a sauna the heating was on full blast way too hot. I quickly left without my shower & had one at home in a much cooler environment.

Fantastic experience: It s not a modern gym but sufficient. Nothing to complain about . Friends staff

Negative experience: In terms of the Total Fitness family this gym is most certainly the poor relative. Poor service, poor quality classes, and poor hygiene. I cannot wait to go back to Nuffield-counting down the days.

Negative experience: I've been a member here for 1 year, and I joined it for classes. Classes that were cancelled later or boxing classes without using special equipment. Per general, the gym itself is alright, but still, there is always something damaged there. One of the saunas is permanently closed or out of order or not properly cleaned. I'd rate this gym 3 , but because of the management that I'm trying to reach for a week already, to freeze my membership as half of the gym is under refurbishment for more that 2 months, I'll give it 1

Negative experience: I used to go to a different club at total fitness. Which i loved . However i recently moved nearby walkden. As i already had a membership for total fitness i obviously came to this gym. It’s completely different to the previous one i went to. Nobody EVER puts the weights they have used back . The gym is a mess . Weights never tidied, missing weights, unclean areas, Pool and sauna never open . And the weights are also very old . I wouldn’t reccomend coming here and will be cancelling my membership. There is clearly enough staff there so why aren’t they doing anything about the untidiness! This gym needs a refurb

Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff. Wide variety of equipment and very clean. This place is great and I would definitely recommend joining.

Positive experience: Not too smiley people at the reception. They do not look like they want to be there. Does not give the best welcome or goodbye, so atmosphere could be better. Facilities are good.

Positive experience: I would like to rate it 5 star but cannot give that review right now until it will be improved! When you see pictures of this gym it's look good , gym joining price is not that expensive but not cheap. Management please sort out air conditioning, there is issues all the time , there is fans instead.But it's not enough for people who exercising! Ladies gym : no water, and no air conditioning ! Cleanliness of the gym is not that bad.But not outstanding. ##Showers ##, you can feel smell,also walls not clean enough. I know you have enough staff in the facilities , please sort it out! Negative experience: Total Fitness used to be a great gym for me and my family, but all things have been to terribly bad in the last year. QUICK (bad) POINTS: - Rusty and ongoing defective equipments - ZERO Hygiene in the whole structure. My son forgot his bottle of water upstairs and found it three days later in the exactly same place. - Stinky and dirty showers The only good point goes to the staff who, given the poor conditions of their employer, are always willing to provide good customer service. I will not renew my contract next month, after four years with this gym.

Negative experience: I’ve been a member for years and to be honest it’s not worth it anymore. It’s hard to get through a workout when the gym is constantly overcrowded, groups of teenagers congregating at equipment with phones out meaning you constantly have to adapt. And the persistent closure of the pools, saunas etc - we pay for the use of the gym so how about when you close equipment for more than a week (apparently the pool is to be closed for 2 MONTHS) you reduce our membership fees? The gym is clearly not able to provide the service we pay for. Cleanliness is another major issue. The woman’s changing rooms are always gross! The showers never seem clean. It’s just a shame this is the closest gym, it would not be my first choice nor recommendation - until the above issues are taken care of. Which is doubtful it seems Total Fitness as a company has a we don’t care mentality through and through.

Fantastic experience: Love this gym, the new female facility really made me frequent more often, consistently clean. Sauna and pools are always good temp

Negative experience: The gym's staff is more interested in selling memberships than providing accurate information. The environment is unfriendly, and the facility is often dirty and in disrepair.

Negative experience: I can’t remember the last time I got a full workout here. Overcrowded. Equipment out of date. Lots of equipment broken. Women’s gym takes up a huge amount of space and is barely used. Avoid this gym.

Positive experience: Lovely gym bit far away from me and a bit expensive as I paid almost £60 (£20 for being a new member) but there's a lot to do, lots of different classes, lots of machines to workout on, a big pool, jacuzzi, and 4 sauna's. Definitely will carry on going every day!

Positive experience: Old equipment but nice atmosphere

Negative experience: Below expectations. Very old equipment, you can't see number of kgs on the equipment. Dumbells up to 9kg, almost never available. Showers smell dreadfully. Floors often dirty, rarely cleaners present. Probably drains need a good clean. Swimming pool depth is ok, but for kids, not tall adults. 1.2m all the way through. When you got a running business, you must maintain it, otherwise complains more likely to come.

Fantastic experience: Great place to zone out and excercise. Lots of equipment available to use. Lovely environment and staff are friendly.

Negative experience: I like Total Fitness in general. But it is Walkden that has the worst and most rude staff. I will never visit Total Fitness in Walkden again. Would not recommend visiting this particular branch

Fantastic experience: Loads of equipment and various classes. The hydro pool is a must, along with sauna rooms & steam room. Most relaxing place ever. Even has women's only sauna in the changing rooms next to the showers.

Negative experience: Honest review of the gym recently The gym equipment is fine and gym is large and well spaced out Classes are really good - we've not tried them all but spin and morning HIIT classes are V good. The pool /sauna / solarium /spa are on a CONSTANT rotation of being closed.. If you're a swimmer like me.. Probably pointless joining this gym as you can never ever guarantee it will be open from one day to the next (you need to check the app constantly before you visit to make sure it's going to be open) The showers are so so so gross, I don't think they are maintained and cleaned throughout the day, cubicles are covered in people's hair, always empty bottles all over the shower floors, products are all over the walls, if you touch the inside of the cubicle it actually feels slimy. Also the swimsuit spinner has been working around 50% of the time I've been a member so that's also a hit and miss. The staff are really nice and always very helpful and cheerful. I don't think it's worth £43 a month or whatever it is we're paying, it's overly priced for the quality you receive. We're waiting for the 12 months to expire so we can look elsewhere. Also.. The number of people who walk straight out of the sauna or steam room and jump into the pool before showering is unholy. It's absolutely horrifying. Positive experience: Good gym and equipments. Friendly staff. Only downside is when something break down for example hair dryer or something like that, they take ages to replace and when they do it , they get the cheapest item which it’ll break again shortly.

Negative experience: I was happy with my membership until their recent changes. Sauna door is broken again (-1 star) The new "Ladies Only" gym is a bad move. I am now paying the same for 50% of the gym but the ladies can use 100% no offence to the ladies it is not your fault but this is sexist. I used to use that room all the time as many others did and now my routine is disturbed and also my anxiety is higher because i am on the main floor between a mass of people also getting to benches is borderline impossible. There is not enough equipment for all the men around now. Moving stuff around does not make the gym look bigger as there are no new equipment

Fantastic experience: Great management team, really listened to what I had to say and some awesome classes.

Negative experience: What was already a poor gym has somehow gotten much worse with their recent "upgrades." No new equipment in 5+ years, just move stuff about to make it seem like they're doing something. Recently closed the main studio to move the womens gym into there even though the womens gym was never full. Instead of buying new equipment with the £45 a month fees they charge for it they've taken stuff out the main gym and shoved it in there so now the main gym will be even more congested. What's worse is that many of the women aren't even using the womens gym anyway, genius. Showers are terrible, one day i'm getting an ice bath and the next i'm in the burns clinic. I will be cancelling my membership along with many other members i've spoken to

Negative experience: New manager is going to empty this gym before you know it. There’s over 40 active evening members very unhappy with the at the new management are waisting money causing divide and it’s 2024 and unisex is going out the window

Negative experience: The gym and pool are fine and the staff are very helpful, but I used to go as a visitor with my sister and two kids. Now it's a £20 fee per visit for all visitors so it's no longer possible. Very disappointing!

Negative experience: So, my membership expired and I didn't want to renew it, I got message later that I need to pay £49 every month again, as it said on December around £30 as a last payment but it was £49 at the end. I don't have time to go to gym unfortunately. I would like to completely stop with member and to pay. Quite isn't fair

Negative experience: Total fitness means robbers, they rob people, I signed up for it and cancelled in 2 hours without using any facilities, they didn’t refund my money. They are thieves. I called their customer service but no answer for the whole day.

Fantastic experience: the people are great, the place it’s amazing and affordable. I had a small issue which was sorted out after talking to a lovely manager. Definitely recommend

Negative experience: Next week we’re going to move out from Manchester and requested to cancel the membership.They said that’s not a reason to cancel it.We joined since September and we said we’re ready to cover the difference and pay back as for a standart membership.They are ignoring our requests and our emails.The worst customer service I’ve ever seen.

Positive experience: Should be called partial fitness. Everything is showing its age. Something is always missing or broken. March 24 update: Since the changes on the gym floor I have started doing my weights workout at home with an old weights set I have, because then I can actually access what I need when I need it, in an environment that isn't overcrowded. I'm still using the gym for cardio but I won't renew in a few months when my membership ends.

Negative experience: I can't believe people pay to come here. I wouldn't come to this place if I got paid for it. I came in today to try the gym and I was disappointed to say the least. The place was super dusty and dirty. The weights, mats and equipment is extremely old and smells horrible, they haven't sanitised the equipment in ages as that smell doesn't apear in a week. The body pump teacher didn't have a clue of what he was doing. Was completely out of sync and didn't know the steps. He didn't even manage to turn the music on so we did the class with the music of HIS PHONE!!! The classroom was extremely dirty, looked like they haven't had a cleaner in months. The mirrors were disgusting and I felt sick looking around the class. The pool and steemroom were closed!!! Why would they invite me in to test the gym when the facilities aren't even open!!!! The sauna is the smallest I have ever seen and is NOT HOT!!! I wouldn't get warm if I stayed there for an hour. I have lived in many different countries and cities, and been to gyms in 4 different continents, this was, by far the worst experience ever and I literally feel sick after being there. I don't recommend the free trial day, stay away from this horrible place. They wanted to talk to me about offers and memberships after the class but I literally runned away as I didn't want to stay there any longer.

Fantastic experience: Great place to get fit ✌

Fantastic experience: My main use with TF Walkden is the pool area and steam/sauna/spa although I have used the lower gym with the kids when it’s been quiet. The changing areas are always clean, lockers always available and also a regular presence of a cleaner working. The small pool is warm and lovely to swim in, lifeguards are always happy to provide floaties and toys for the kids and it feels safe and relaxing. The main pool is a little colder but ideal for swimming lengths rather than splash about and the lanes roped off ensure each level of swimmer has room for their speed/style. The steam room is large and always a good temperature, with the 2 saunas well maintained too. A cold blast shower before relaxing in the spa pool with jets and power showers is refreshing. Being next door to Quality Save, it’s convenient to grab a few bits after a swim as all the shops share a free car park.

Fantastic experience: Love the place, so relaxing and clean. Love the sauna, the little sauna in female changing area and relaxing water pool. All in all, perfect and worth the money spent. Not as busy as well which is perfect :)

Positive experience: They have everything you need or want in a gym but of course they charge a salty price for this, I still thought it was worth it and would give 5 stars if there wasn't that many broken equipments, for the price I paid I wish I could use all the facilities but for the Stairmaster for example, they had 5 and 3 of these were broken during 2 months and then of course I never managed to use these after work because the only 2 that worked were always occupied.

Negative experience: Expensive for old equipment and hardly any of the small basic stuff, machines are coming on and rusting, very very few little things like cable machine attachments and clips for barbells, very disapointing for the price, ill stick to puregym, only good thing is pool facilities

Positive experience: Front of house staff, greet you with a smile and are very attentive. Changing room facilities are decent and clean. One downside, the shower temperature is a bit hit and miss cold one day scalding hot the next no happy medium. Plenty of equipment choice,swimming pool, hydro pool, saunas and steam room.

Negative experience: Can’t wait till my contract is up, £7.50 for kids to use pool? parents that pay near 50 quid a month each when we signed up we was told we was able to bring our children now an again for nothing but now it’s all changed hands apparently so not allowed anymore. Soon as my contract ends here it will be getting fked right off.

Negative experience: The gym is horrendously overcrowded, I’ve been waiting 20 mins for a bench to become available. The men’s changing rooms also constantly smell of urine, seemingly never cleaned. Avoid.

Positive experience: Good gym, good equipment but some things are missing such as specific dumbell weights or barbell clips. There are alot of lazy people not bothered to put back their equipment. £50 a month is an overkill for this gym. There are similar gyms offering way less than that price.

Positive experience: I like the gym it has sky lit gym and pool, open to sun… the membership is very friendly there always used to be a roof leak in studio but it’s fixed. At last. Ok it’s a bit tatty in places like some rust on beams over jacuzzi . But as it’s not local authority can always use the pool A huge bonus Yes it would be 5 stars. But I when I cover classes can never get the head mic to work yes it’s common issue in many gyms

Fantastic experience: 1st class customer service from Louis. Louis took the time to listen to what I wanted to gain from the gym for myself. When showing me around the gym. He took the time to explain what each piece of equipment would be of benefit to me. Never once tried the hard sell to get me to sign up. Ensured that I was booked in for a 1-2-1 to ensure that I felt comfortable and safe using the gym equipment. Went today 1st time solo to the gym. Louis was there and took the time to ask if everything was okay and if ag anytime I need any further help. Either himself or one of his colleagues would gladly help me

Fantastic experience: Gym like many others good to get a muscle grow as well very good place to relax, big jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, swimming pooll, Caffè . Very busy between 6-8pm.

Positive experience: There are not enough adequate quantity of simple benches for workout. I had always to wait or share it. Still there are enough room for them to implement and supply more benches and TRX tapes. Need investment and look after. The Spa pool is also shut not working for long time.

Negative experience: I visited this gym for a change of scenery and wish I had just stayed at my local. I took the train then walked a fair bit from the train station, which I expected. This gym needs a good dusting and deep clean! I used the gym & had a swim, every surface had a layer of dust. When getting changed after the swimming pool I noticed 2 lumps on my leg quite close together, I had been bitten! When leaving I let the staff know that I had been bitten just to make them aware, but they didn't seem to care and looked at me like I was lying to get a freebie! After I noticed the gym had also charged me an additional £1.50 because it isn't the gym I signed to. I started the day positive and motivated but left disappointed.

Positive experience: Compared to other total fitness this isn't great Whirlpool jets don't work round the side and area to lie down is plastic and has a metal barrier round that means you can't rest your head on the edge. The bed to lie in is at an angle you slide down it on and feels cheap

Negative experience: Tied in so will have to keep going always something broken (hydro pool, hairdryers, swearwear dryer, different equipment). Showers in the ladies changing room are always dirty, I would recommend joining a different total fitness gym as the other one is a much cleaner nicer space to excercise in.

Negative experience: Pool is dirtier than our lakes with raw sewage in it. When you're swimming you have to watch out for all the debris because they don't clean this pool. Staff are typically just huddled around the pool chatting and doing sweet FA. I most probably won't be continuing after the years contract is up. Saying that when the gym closes they don't reimburse members for the days they were forced to close. On top of that most of their weight machines need you to steal a peg from a machine as they are all broken. When SnapFitness 24/7 opens in Moseley Common this gym will struggle. Since this review they had the audacity to increase their membership, stating they provide a good service. I definitely won't be rejoining. I have tried to send communications but this organisation doesn't communicate.

Positive experience: Loses a star as the Steam room was out of action. Staff friendly and helpful.

Negative experience: I used to go to Altrincham Total fitness and recently moved to Worsley. It’s dirty, no air conditioning. Lack of classes. Overpriced. Wanting to cancel my membership.

Negative experience: I think that the gym is very overpriced, I have been going total fitness gym for many years in Wimslow as I use to love going there, and it was worth every penny and its such a better gym comparing to this place. I have only just moved into this area and this gym has shocked me, it’s absolutely disgusting, the gym is dirty, ladies toilets are dirty, pool is dirty and sauna seems to be closed all the time, my partner was in the gym area and he went to fill his water bottle and the guy that was working there said “why did you not put the weights back” which seems to be so rude as he was going back to them as he had the phone there too and they guy did not even apologise, baring in mind there is no signs saying to put the weights back and really even if he had forgotten to put them back, what are staff are getting paid for? I would think that it’s part of their job. People should really think before going to this gym as it’s not worse the money that you are paying at all. Disappointed would not even rate this as 1 star!!!!

Negative experience: Dreadful! We usually go to Whitefield but the pool is closed, so we went to Walkden. Unlike Whitefield the toilets and changing rooms are dirty, the pool feels slimy under foot and there's no real control over the pool by staff. We can't wait for Whitefield pool to reopen.

Positive experience: Love the pools. Lack of decent air conditioning makes workouts more unpleasant than they need to be

Fantastic experience: Been to tatalfitness in walkden met staff harvey a life gard what a star 10/10 telling me the truth about it all and was all good news and i felt so relaxed abd exsplaind why 1 pool was off and 10/10 for the cleaning signing today to them 1000 times better this gym

Fantastic experience: It has a swimming pool a gym a cafe personal trainers and so many other extras. So in general a really good place. And I signed up like 2 weeks ago and got a very good price

Negative experience: They should change their name to total shitness, where putting back equipment is not forced and is only done when you can be bothered….which is never! Nothing is where it should be, no weights in the right section, missing weights, missing pins for machine, rust for added resistance and rips in the seats. I honestly feel people take the kit home the gym is that empty. Another bonus that this gym is that it has is no air con! So join this gym if you want to cook during a workout!

Positive experience: Have been a member for 4 years, if there was another gym locally i would move. Hoping one opens! Pros: Big, plenty of space , doesn't feel cramped, Bright. Decent pool ( although far too much chlorine, so much so that my clothes left in the lockers in the changing room stink of chlorine and i have to shower again when i get home) Reasonable price (mid-ranges if Pure is cheap and Virgin expensive) Classes: don't tend to get overbooked so you can normally just rock up. Cons: no air con, and glass roof which means i avoid it on sunny days as it is easily 30 degrees inside. No windows to open, only a couple of fans dotted about A lot of cardio equipment out of order, does not get repaired (some over a year). Cardio equipment is old, a lot of broken pedals, handles, torn seats etc. Cleanliness- not great, floors often covered in muck and I have attended early and and late at night, so it's not the time of day , cleaning just is not regular or good enough Vibe: other Total fitness branches much nicer vibes, for some reason they seem to want to have club music banging out as though they have just stumbled out of a club (i think the staff like it?) Classes: lacking variety and only 45 mins, no hour classes, did a survey of what people wanted, and ignored the feedback. Service: Worst i have dealt with. No matter who you speak to (never an actual manager on site with authority, although everyone seems to claim to be a manager of something when you ask for one) they never call you back as promised, they never come back on your comments or feedback, they completely ignore all feedback, never make improvements or changes. I think staff are incredibly inexperienced at customer service. And you can't get hold of anyone on social media or at head office to complain about the poor service ironically. Staff essentially spend all their time leaning on the reception counter, chatting to each other &friends but don't seem to do anything else. When you approach them with feedback they just fob you off, i honestly don't think they know what to do. It all seems a bit amateurish, could use some older, more experienced team embers to actively manage the site on a daily basis. The only time you get enthusiastic service is when you are signing up for membership.

Negative experience: Total scam of a place who send dept collection agency around when my son stopped his direct debit. The place was shut during covid lock down too, bunch of jokers!

Negative experience: I normally go to the one in Whitefield but fire alarm malfunctions meant a little exploring. If you enjoy being surrounded by gym bros who will stare you out of the weights corner or glare at you until you vacate the machine they want, this is the gym for you. Whitefield is a much nicer vibe, shall not be returning here

Negative experience: Worth place i been do not recomend anyone, got a off peak membership for myself and family. We have 9month old baby who loves swiming. We live 3miles away and when i am at work my misses is walking with baby to get there, it been 3 times she have been told they have to wait 30 min because some staff who looks after children pool is on break, nonsence, this place is not managed corectly if they can not run the place as someone leaves for break. Why should i pay money if i am not getting what i am paying for. Today again been told that staff is on training and there is no one to look after kids pool. They dont send any remainders or comunication to you. They are quick to sign you up for contract and take money, but do not fullfill there contract. Also been told only after signing contract that baby pool not working from 12:30 to 13:30, no one mentioned this before signing contract. None of this info also is writen on contract when i requested to show me these times. When i complained i was told manager will contact me to discuss the concern, which never happened.

Fantastic experience: Love that it has 3 pools, a sauna and a female only gym! Always very clean and tidy and the parking is great.

Negative experience: Moved house from Walkden to Wigan and asked to cancel the membership but Total Fitness insisted on keeping me to it. TFW would rather cash in on a few months of membership payments even if it means losing a long term customer.

Negative experience: Men's toilets haven't had any soap for a week now. Mentioned it to multiple staff and just get we've ordered some There's a home bargains next door but staff clearly can't be bothered to think outside the box So if you apply for membership keep in mind the equipments probably covered in P155
