Everlast Gyms - Cheltenham HC: Opinions
Negative experience: I was invited by Callum, the head coach, to attend a chat regarding the personal training role at Everlast Gym in the afternoon. However, when I arrived at 12pm , the head coach was not present, and another trainer had to step in without any prior knowledge or preparation for my appointment. While the trainer was friendly and did their best, I felt like I was the one leading the conversation, asking most of the questions, rather than being assessed or engaged properly. Following this, I received an email from the Everlast Cheltenham manager informing me that I had not been shortlisted for the role. The entire experience felt disorganized and unprofessional, as it lacked the structure and communication I would expect from a reputable establishment. It left me questioning the level of professionalism and coordination within their team.
Fantastic experience: Love it, great gym. Will be even better after the elevation refit.
Negative experience: Poor service with false advertising. Yoga classes no longer available after today due to Everlast cancelling them despite being very popular and full every week. Timing of cancelling classes particularly frustrating in mid-January when many new members will have just joined. Pool also out of service again. Have also seen recent 5 star reviews on here have been made by staff/management themselves (!) - very disappointing, wouldn't recommend.
Negative experience: Music is always way too loud, you can’t hear your own headphones. They also need to fix the men’s showers, you can see right into the next persons cubicle. Disappointing because it has the potential to be a good gym, especially if they updated some of the equipment.
Fantastic experience: Really friendly staff and complete facilities. Good range of kit, classes and poolside amenities.
Negative experience: The machines at this gym are outdated and poorly maintained. There are not many options available, which makes it less appealing for regular workouts. This seems to be a significant reason people choose to go elsewhere. However location is easy to access.
Negative experience: Horrendous gym, got a membership for 2 months but I didn't use the steam room a single time as it was under maintenance. Most gym equipment is worn out or damaged. Privacy has left the room for the male showers, almost all adjacent cubicles have transparent walls with showers at extremely high pressures and cold temperatures.
Positive experience: good gym could and probably should have an update. Lucky to have men’s toilets working which is far from ideal!
Positive experience: Nice gym and pool , helpful staff , like all gyms the owners don't want to spend anymore than they need to , many of the machines are broken, plus the steam room is out of action
Negative experience: very terrible contract terms that you don't see when you apply for membership in this gym, if you want to cancel the contract for a good reason, I refuse you, you still have to pay in my case until the end of the contract that I signed for 4 months and in the case of a partner, you have to pay for half a year of the contract, the manager said that you need to give a month's notice of termination of the contract, we gave a month's notice and you still have to pay for half a year, THIS IS HOW TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE MANAGEMENT OF THIS QUITE COMMON GYM IS LOOKING AT
Negative experience: Old outdated equipment. They are rumning a sham of a membership program. Once you join they will never let you cancel
Negative experience: It's alright... Alot of the equipment is pretty damaged, especially the cable machines, they have like 3 carabiners for the whole gym. For £30 if you're going after work I'd find somewhere else, if you can go at quiet times it's alright.
Positive experience: Just joined — really not as bad as the reviews make out.
Negative experience: I'm not really sure how this gym has got 5 stars recently. I've been a member in Cheltenham since it first opened as Fitness First. Unfortunately, the gym has gone down hill so much over the years. The staff don't seem to care and the equipment needs replacing; some are always out of action. Also, it's a miracle if you can find a locker that isn't broken. Seriously thinking about cancelling!
Negative experience: The locker room area is always dirty and smelly. I think they only hire cleaners by hour that come only 2-3 hours a day. And these mats need changing asap from all the sweat and germ on those cracked surfaces.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant, always a fantastic place.
Positive experience: good gym, lovely staff who are very helpful, overall great atmosphere and classes are excellent. some of the equipment and changing rooms could do with an upgrade but doesn't take away from the overall feel. wide range of machines and equipment (please get some abduction/adduction machines tho!)
Positive experience: Ok. Reasonable price for a gym, especially for one with a pool and sauna/steam room however a lot of the equipment is old, and often there is something out of order (steam room been faulty for weeks!)
Positive experience: Needs to improve on equipment upkeep. Cables are nearly always broken
Fantastic experience: So welcoming and very friendly staff can never ask for better people.
Negative experience: As others have stated, this gym is dingy, poorly cleaned, and much of the equipment needs replaced. The music is also incessant, loud club music, which makes conversation difficult at times. I find it quite nauseating to listen to throughout a workout. I once inquired about how to work a piece of equipment and the staff member simply said “it’s broken” - no explanation or plan to fix it. Just old equipment sitting around. - the women’s bathrooms and showers smell musty and have hair and mould - steam room smells of mould, I won’t use it. - pool has been regularly closed due to repairs, although this has apparently been resolved for now. The gym is in a good location, but misses the mark in every other category. Very disappointing.
Positive experience: Nearly 5 stars because it's got great facilities including swimming pool and sauna as well as great stretching area and all gym and weights equipment. Somehow the atmosphere was just a bit cold.
Negative experience: I have a bad experience from this gym. I was a member since 2023 January. My wife was also a member and she used to go for swimming and enjoyed it. But because of some work related issues i had to cancel the membership , and they said i can’t cancel the membership, in my case i can understand why they said like that. But when we relocated and my wife asked for a cancellation, again they rejected. I relocated to stockbridge and there is no everlast gyms nearby. So why did they a rejected, they shouldn’t reject the request. Relocating related to a circumstances and its not our problem that an everlast gym is not in this location.
Negative experience: Excellent PT and class instructors, friendly staff, adequate gym & equipment, great classes, good showers. Issues with cleaning; the pool is often cloudy, the sauna smells of urine, sometimes just plain stale and is really dirty (look at the door, floor, under the benches - literal grime) the steam room makes odd noises and smells of black mould. Ladies showers aren’t very clean, shower gel always empty and half the hairdryers don’t work. Needs attention.
Negative experience: Sadly again, again and again the swimming pool is closed and nobody email you on advance. I went after 6 pm and they said they it was closed all day day... So always you know through a note on the entrance that is closed after a long day, after crossing all the city, after parking. Absolutely upset
Negative experience: Someone needs to do something with how dirty this gym is, also the amount of kids is ridiculous, over priced. What a shame
Negative experience: This was a great place to train pre pandemic, but since then we have seen a huge decline in the cleanliness of the place which makes no sense. The changing rooms are cold, dusty and the showers smell. The stairs leading to the pool area are filthy dirty and the tiles are cracked/filled with debris. The deck chairs poolside have never been cleaned, they are full of ground in dead skin and even have sludge inside the hinged area where the chairs can be adjusted. The sauna has bugs that are breeding in the wood near the the bottom left hand side of the door from the inside. More about the pool area… this might be a bit “out there” but I do have a problem with the entire pool being used by families. The pool area had about three-four families using the entire middle lane and a baby swimming class was using the first lane over the weekend. The baby class wasn’t so much of an issue, but those who were trying to use the last lane to swim/exercise were battling children and parents who were throwing pool noodles around and messing about across both middle and end lanes. When you pay a membership to come to the gym and train and then want to relax or continue your workout down at the pool, it’s incredibly frustrating that you’re unable to use all of the facilities because it’s ransacked by kids and parents who have no control over them. The same with the changing rooms, nappies being changed on the benches… pushchairs littering the place with mud all over the wheels… I don’t feel like this is a premium gym anymore, if I wanted to to attend a public swimming bath or locally funded sports centre I would, but stupidly I’ve invested in a membership here where there is no consideration for paying members and Everlast clearly want to capitalise on making money from third parties like local hotels and private instructors running classes from the gym. A real shame as the location is fantastic and it was a 10/10 experience once upon a time.
Positive experience: Great location with a view over the Brewery Quarter. Well-equipped on the whole. But it's just totally rammed most of the time, and for a gym that must surely be in-profit, the level of cleanliness and service isn't there. Changing rooms/bathrooms aren't very pleasant. No towels to rent or buy and no paper towels either, so essentially noone is wiping up after themselves; few hand sanitisers and soap dispensers often empty/broke. After a global pandemic it's a bit shocking really.
Positive experience: Lots of cross-trainers/treadmills to use, I've never had a problem getting one even at peak hours. However the steam room has been broken for months now, and I wish there was more floor space/proper mats to do floor work -- right now there are only two which are often taken.
Negative experience: Can’t comment on the pool/ sauna as haven’t been, but most of the time it’s out of order anyway. Regarding the weight training section, they’re lacking lots of basic machines. The size and price of the gym as well, there just isn’t enough equipment. Don’t bother going from 5pm onwards. There’s 4 cable cages, but for the past 2 months only 2 of the 8 cables have been working and not even on the same age. For £30-£40 a month it’s just not good enough. Staff are lovely and always about, and do a great job cleaning but no where near worth the money.
Negative experience: Nice range of equiment No sanitisation/towels for equipment Machines are not cleaned of dust, calibrated or balanced Locker room is very below average Toilets are consistently unacceptable, horrid. Would rather shit in a hole And the cost is well above other Gyms in the town Edit: so it's December 2024 The men's toilets are 2 urinals and 2 cubicals All four have never worked at any point this yearx and they are currently all closed How is a gym allowed to be open without toilets?
Fantastic experience: Good place for a nice energyc mory
Positive experience: The gym is very good, clean, good location and have the equipment you need. The staff are lovely and are very helpful when you need them ! However, one thing I will say is the size of the gym, it is small and it gets very busy throughout so hard to access gym equipment and wish it was 24/7 but would recommend !
Positive experience: It's a great gym in a decent location, friendly and helpful staff with good facilities. It is a little small and can get busy, would definitely benefit from being a 24 hour gym like Simply Gym and The Gym Group.
Positive experience: We were using the pool facilities here for family swimming as part of the arrangement with the Holiday Inn Express. There seems to be a bit of a mismatch in the information from the gym and the information given at the hotel though in terms of swim times. Lockers are available but require you to bring a padlock to use them or purchase one for £4 from the reception desk. The pool is downstairs and the air temperature is nice and warm enough to not feel the cold when you get out of the pool. The sauna and steam room are poolside too, along with a shower with variable temperature settings. The room the pool is in is quite dark with a bit of atmospheric lighting with no windows bringing in natural light. There are some loungers by the side of the pool and some coat hooks. The pool itself is a comfortable temperature, not too warm or too cold. It is segregated into 4 swimming lanes even during family friendly swim times. There are some pool noodles In a big basket and a variety of other floats. We borrowed a pool noodle for our little one, but we don't know if we were supposed to? There's no signage, no information provided and critically there are no staff down there unless there are swimming lessons taking place. I would have expected at minimum a lifeguard to be presebt in the pool area, but in 3 visits there was none. Aside from the lack of lifeguard, the steps leading down to the pool are filthy and really in need of a good clean. The changing rooms are a bit worse for wear but are usuable. It's worth noting there is a swimming costume spinner in the ladie's changing room but not in the men's. Whilst we didn't use the gym itself, it did seem to be well equipped, but we did observe people doing some unusual things on the equipment - the kind of thing you see on YouTube where they clearly don't know how to use the equipment! If rate it higher if the pool was attended, lighting improved and the stairs and changing rooms were a bit cleaner and better maintained.
Fantastic experience: Friendly gym ️♀️ alot of trainers available if you're up for it get down there
Positive experience: Facilities - average Size - below average Staff - lazy, poor attention to relevant detail, lost a customer due to previously stated Post - for 2/3 of my time there half the facilities didn't even work.
Negative experience: Very dissapointed with the cleanliness .for some reason the floors and stairwell to pool are filthy .also entrance to the showers the floors need scrubbing .looks almost like mould .standards are dropping ..on the positive side the pool is lovely .temperature perfect ...would just like to see more thorough cleaning.
Negative experience: The worse service! They closed the gym in Northfield - Birmingham. I’m trying to cancel my account and they don’t reply my emails and I don’t have a number to contact them. Please don’t go to this gym.
Negative experience: I brought some gym wear nearly 3 weeks ago. The guy at the desk said I could get a refund if they weren't right. But when I went back they wouldn't issue the refund. JO the manger was due to contact me but hasn't bothered. Its not difficult to call and make contact. No impressed with their Customer Service .
Positive experience: Nice and big gym, amazing crew but awful toilets
Negative experience: Frankly, it’s a bit grim. Old equipment, hideous showers, dodgy air con, and has recently been overrun by too many members for its size. JD have opened an impressive new gym not far away - much bigger, brand new, amazing equipment and £10 a month cheaper. Perhaps Everlast will finally spend some money on this place?
Fantastic experience: Gym is perfectly fine Just need to get rid of the social media addicts who spend a fortune on kit, one set ( if that ) on equipment, then spend what seams like hours sat on the stuff on their phones, Just mean the rest of us look like meanies when we ask if their done trying to look good as everyone else wants to use the gym, Great staff Great location & good facilities for people with disabilities
Negative experience: Been a member for years but seems to be getting worse. Changing rooms are desperately in need or refurbishment, there's often no hot water (or indeed any water sometimes) which makes you wonder how clean the place really is. Otherwise, Pool is nice and generally fairly good equipment.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Cheltenham from my experience . It combines everything from classes , aerobic , and swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Amplió, bonito, buen ambiente para hacer la rutina de ejercicio... variedad de máquinas...
Negative experience: Very disappointed specially if you book expensive hotel and you have to use this place. Place is dirty I don't recommend at all
Positive experience: Has air con, has plenty of equipment, pretty clean. A decent gym
Positive experience: Sauna room is always jam packed. They should have made it bigger.
Negative experience: Cut all the morning classes as it summer, apparently you only attend classes in the evening or during the work day in summer. Management refuse to contact clients to discuss, money grabbing not interested in clients
Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym with all the equipment and regulars who just let you get on with things -I.e no weird vibes if you’re there as a woman in the weights section. Would definitely go again next time in town.
Positive experience: Incredible facilities for such a great membership price. The classes are also good, but have yet to find an instructor who doesn’t just showboat around! Lots of different types of people come here so it isn’t intimidating and there are times where it’s nice and quiet.
Negative experience: I applied for refund because I need to move from this city and they keep saying that I would get my refund for 1 month and then after 1 month they said there is no refund according to our policy. I don’t like and this is not a good way.
Negative experience: Highly misleading (if I'm being generous) introductory offer that was withdrawn prematurely.
Negative experience: It's very busy all the time. No enough fitness equipmet. It's very cold in the fitness and in the changing rooms. It's dirty everywhere. I am not satisfy and I do not recomend. I made a note to the staff that it's very cold and they told me that they cannot do anything aboit this. This is unacceptable.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, very friendly and accommodating staff.
Negative experience: A bit understaffed. Pool can be a bit crowded... too many things out of action and having pointed out there was poo on the dressing room floor twice, I was astonished nobody rushed to clean up! Dreadful. Hardly exclusive
Positive experience: Like a maze but its got everything I want out it
Fantastic experience: I changed over from its sister gym sports direct to everlast at the brewery. I like the pool with the low lighting, although a lot of steps to get down so would be a struggle for people that struggle with stairs and the lift is always blocked as has constant stuff in front of it, so although it works , it's not usable. The sauna is great,, but the steam room has been out of use more times than its been open. Showers are lovely and hot.. changing rooms are spacious with lockers, although only 2 cubicle changing rooms for those that want to change more privately. The gym can be a bit daunting with the layout, but has the equipment you need. Weights section is across the room down the stairs. Opening times and days would be handy on a board for when they decide to close early for bank holidays and other days, as there's been a few times I've turned up to find they've closed early and nothing has been updated on the website or inside the gym. So that could be a little clearer. Also an updated family and swimming lessons timetable would be great , as its a nightmare for people that want to do continuous lane swimming.
Positive experience: Pool is average.. Shane the steam room wasn't working when we visited.
Positive experience: Great value
Positive experience: Member since sports direct gym closed
Positive experience: needs a bit more love and attention. turn up the sauna
Positive experience: Great gym although very busy at peak times. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Good facilities.
Positive experience: Nice .clean but not jacuzzi. And lift not working . But generally
Fantastic experience: Un gimnasio impresionante, grandísimo las mejores máquinas y zonas de entreno piscina sauna etc un trato perfecto en un lugar perfecto gracias
Fantastic experience: Nice on Friday chloe Gill Maria
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym. The facilities are top and it's located just a few minutes walk from the town centre.
Fantastic experience: A fitness center with everything you need, including: many cardio machines and strength machines for every taste. Personal and group lessons are also available. The great advantage of this hall is the presence of its own swimming pool with two saunas (a steam room and a regular semi-wet sauna). The pool is quite large and swimming in it after workout is just the thing! Among the disadvantages, I can voice the lack of built-in locks in the lockers, so you will need your own pocket lock to lock the locker (although this problem is being solved, as the establishment plans to make new built-in locks soon). The second inconvenience is that it is a bit crowded and sometimes you have to wait for the machine to become free, but I think that the crowd is a good indicator for the gym, it shows that many people are also interested in this gym. That's why I put 5, everything suits me and the training is super effective!
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Positive experience: Gym is conveniently located in the town centre. A good range of equipment.
Negative experience: Worst gym company ever, money grabbers.
Negative experience: Whilst you can tell the in-gym staff are trying their best, they're fighting uphill against a stone-age IT system that makes the gym-user experience dreadful. Whether it's updating a payment method, checking into a class, or accessing the app (if you can call it that), you're going to get hassle. As a pointer, the gym is near unusable between the hours of 5-7pm because of how busy it is. I'm sure others have had a decent experience, and there's some good things to say about location/parking setup/equipment quality. But, personally speaking, I wouldn't recommend Everlast Cheltenham.
Negative experience: The gym is fine and the staff are great, really friendly and helpful. It's the company that is the problem. After you cancel your membership they will hound you for extra payment and the HQ customer service is awful. Do yourself a favour and find a gym run by a company that respects its customers.
Fantastic experience: always very good It's there!
Fantastic experience: Great gym and facilities, really friendly staff, young lady was really helpful, bought the day pass while staying in Cheltenham which well priced for the facilities available.
Positive experience: Gym itself is good and plentiful amounts of equipment, although it does get very busy during peak times due to its centralised location in Cheltenham. The changing rooms can get congested and the mens urinal area looks like something out of a dodgy car park in South London, could really do with some TLC. The pool area is great, although the amount of chlorine they use is or must be close to the legal limit. My eyes burn, nostrils have singe marks and you will smell of chlorine for about 3 days after.
Negative experience: Sauna and steam room showers broken but classes are great
Fantastic experience: Love The Gym, love the classes, especially Define (body pump with Jo).Please sort the air-conditioning in the class room!!!!
Negative experience: Every time I go it's worse and I'm looking to cancel my membership. Most of the staff, including the manager Joe are just plain rude. In terms of the facilities, expect the bare minimum... There's only one tap to fill up water bottles in the swimming pool/sauna area which has been out of service since 2023. No efforts have been made to sort it. I've been a member for over 10 years and it's really sad to see how far down hill the club has fallen.
Fantastic experience: Love it really really good gym feel very comfortable
Positive experience: Great swimming pool, but having to fill in a form for every person of our group (6) was a bit of a bind.
Fantastic experience: Impressively huge gym with wide variety of equipment. Helpful ‘reception staff’ to point you in the right direction. Pool looks great -decent size.
Fantastic experience: Really friendly staff, and very COVID-safe - sanitiser and cleaning products readily available throughout the gym.
Negative experience: They charge existing members 44 a month while offering new ones membership at 30 a month
Fantastic experience: I have been coming here since 2014, love the crowd, have made many friends with the regulars, exceptionally clean, on site cleaner who cleans non-stop, I would recommend to anyone who wants to start ,this will be for you, invest in your health. There is also a hairdresser upstairs which is very convenient for all your needs
Negative experience: The new regime doesn't cater for older persons : OAP'S plus.. The large mats originally used in an area where people stretched/ did pilates have now all moved downstairs to where the heavy equipment / body builders reside so that they have a space to leave their weights. There used to be at least 3 different styles of pilates classes. Now there are none. No Zumba. etc No Yoga class geared towards the elderly as there was in the past .... I sadly don't see any of the more elderly people I used to see regularly pre Covid. It's pretty good for youngerpeople . Lots of good quality equipment and weights . Good opening hours. Friendly too...but I am way over 70 and nowadays don't feel I belong
Fantastic experience: Professional, great PTs and staff, large gym, sauna now open as of today!!
Fantastic experience: Love this Gym. Out of the Four Gyms I've been a member of this one is by far the best.
Fantastic experience: Big, very clean, friendly staff and lots of equipment
Fantastic experience: Good town centre Gym with a pool. Lots of equipment
Fantastic experience: Great friendly staff. Facilities top notch.
Positive experience: So of the new Covid restriction seem silly, but I understand why we have them.
Negative experience: Never use DW Fitness! My partner got ran over by a double decker bus just before Xmas (3rd December) and they wouldn't cancel her membership. I've never known such a horrible company to be involved with. The lack of empathy has been shocking and the twists and turns they use to keep you stuck in that contract is absolutely insane. Shes currently in a wheelchair living out of Cheltenham (bristol for hospital appointments etc) and still having to pay a monthly payment for a membership she physically can not use. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID
Positive experience: Good facilities and membership is reasonably priced.
Positive experience: Nice place nice staff
Fantastic experience: Very good Gym, which great range of classes and weights to use
Positive experience: Great place with lots of different equipment with great accessibility for wheelchair users (due to 3 elevators located around the gym). Would definitely recommend it both the gym and the personal trainer with the name of Chris Lineham. Only downside is the fairly expensive membership prices, so it's questionable whether it's student friendly or not.
Fantastic experience: Great gym
Negative experience: Way too expensive for what it is. Good machines but terrible changing rooms without privacy. Not adapted to people travelling for work as their "freeze" only works for whole months starting the same day as your subscription etc ...
