Negative experience: 2 Star for the cozy spa area (when sauna isn’t broken) Gym air con has been broken for over 2 years it feels like now - not comfortable working out environment if you sweat easily.
hello, thank you for your review, the sauna, goes out as members throw liquids over the element and sets the alarms off. We do speak to the members regarding this as it is not fair to others. Also the air con was fixed in the gym in October. Thank you club manager
Negative experience: Asked the gym to freeze my membership they didn’t and then charged full price for the 3 months I hadn’t gone as agreed instead!!! Trying to speak to someone and get this sorted is an absolute joke! Never known anything like it! The latest is they said they were refunding as their mistake and giving December free and rearranging direct debit. Got sent an email instead with new larger direct debt fee. Again cannot speak to anyone I’m absolutely furious never known anything like it!!!!

Negative experience: After ringing up to cancel the classes I had booked due to illness I was told this would be done without a suspension to book future classes. I have now phoned up 3 times, I was told someone will sort this out and they haven’t, it’s been over a week. I joined the gym to do classes, classes I am now unable to book on. Bad customer service!! I won’t be renewing my membership

Fantastic experience: Dear Management, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the assistance I received during my recent stay at your hotel. On the 23rd of September, I passed out in the hotel toilet, and I am so thankful for James' help in ensuring that I was okay. His quick response and care made all the difference. It was especially thoughtful that James checked on me the next day. Negative experience: The gym has the potential to be a great gym. The staff seem to have an attitude problem. Due to their incompetence, they threatened me via email to make payments after I tried clearing it with them on my last visit at the gym. I went well out my way to explain that I am travelling abroad and checked to see if I had any outstanding payments. Here is what they sent me via email.. "We want to avoid your debt being referred to our debt recovery partner. Please call us to discuss your account or make a payment prior to the last day of this month."

Negative experience: I went today with a friend (who's a member) and paid £18, but still didn't receive a wristband for a separate locker. The receptionist asked us to share one and lied, saying none were available! We had to keep asking another person until we finally got one. No idea why they lied in the first place! The water in the swimming pool wasn’t clean and clear—it was murky. Someone shaved in the bathroom sink and left a huge mess—it was disgusting.

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusted at the staff at village gym ashton including the so called manager Paz who hasnt even got the decency to call me back as regards my complaint even a month on. I purchased some wowcher tickets online which clearly mentioned that each voucher contained 4 passes which give access to the gym and Spa so i purchased 4 wowchers for my husband and children. When i came to use the wowcher the male at the reception happily let us through and we went ahead to use the swimming pool. A week later when we went again the receptionist was very rude when we showed her the wowcher she said this isnt valid mentioning that each one can only be used every 90 days. And you cant just buy 4 wowchers for each person. This made no sense at all as when purchasing the wowcher and checking the terms and conditions it said it has to be used within 30 days. Also that each set of passes cannot be shared and has to be used per person. Hence why i purchased 4 for each family member. After showing her this she became very argumentative and said she will not let us gain access. I asked her to let me speak to a manager and she kept repeating ‘theyre going to say the same thing so whats the point’. So now i have no right to even speak to someone else. After i told her i wanted to speak to someone else she huffed off into the office with an angry demeanour and angrily told the team leader about the situation, she stayed in their for a few minutes sharing her story while huffing to make sure the other staff member doesnt let us in either.By the time he arrived i was quite upset as my children were still waiting to go inside. i told him the receptionist was being very unprofessional and he was very unbothered. Not once did he ask me if i was okay instead he said well im only going to say what she said and also went onto say these wowchers are only for you to see if you like the gym or not so you can become a permanent member. No Sir that is not why they are made. The wowchers were clearly made for people to have 4 days of access to the gym or spa. Whether you like it or not or whether you want to make a permanent membership is not determined by these wowchers. Also the reason why your even letting the wowcher company list these deals is so you can make extra money from people like me. The team leader even went onto say that children are not even allowed when it clearly said on the terms and conditions that children can use the service aslong as they use the pool at the allocated time. All my words were ignored and i told the team leader to give my number urgently to the manager Paz. He told me paz would be in work the next day and so will give me a call. A few days later i still did not receive any phone call and so i called in for the team leader to answer the call i asked him why i havent had a call yet and he told me my number is still there and the manager will call as soon as. Now nearly a month has passed and Paz the manager did not bother calling me which i would say is a disgrace.
Negative experience: There air conditioning hasn’t worked for the last 10 years but it’s never replaced and no money invested. There is 1 unit servicing the whole gym. It breaks every year when it’s warm and then there is a long wait for it to be fixed. Even when working it’s useless. A new system is required. The toilets in the men’s changing rooms are constantly soiled and the sinks full of shaved hair. I regularly check back to read the reviews to see if anything has been done to rectify the problems but sadly it never has. It could be a really good gym but is let down by lack of investment and cleanliness. The Village at Hyde always has a nice cool gym and the changing rooms are clean.

Fantastic experience: Just wanted to do a review for the PT instructor Sarah Acheson, she is a credit to the gym, she puts her heart and sole into each and every workout for each class and PT sessions, help and knowledge is always the best, I have continued to lose weight, build muscle and drop body fat. I always look forward to the classes she does as you get the most out of your workouts each time, I burn calories and build lean muscle like never before! I couldn’t do this without her. She is an inspiration to everyone.

Fantastic experience: Having been a member of various different gyms over the years, this is the first one where I’ve felt a true sense of community that motivates me to keep going. Members and staff are great, in particular Sarah who has been the key driver in my progress at the gym. Motivating, supporting & pushing me at every turn through classes & PT sessions my body has seen changes I never thought was possible.

Negative experience: Friend who’s a member wanted me to try as she hasn’t been going for 6 months an she was given 3 passes when joined so maybe myself joining would spur her to go, arrived to a very condescending receptionist “passes have expired” and it’s £18 for me to go into the pool area with her which I politely paid only to find she had not provided any kind of locker key an so when I realised I got redressed an back to reception and was told there was no more keys, not even a sorry Just bewildering that to make someone’s first impression of a new place so cold and unkind, so a big NO from me

Negative experience: 90% of the time the air conditioning isn’t on/working. Usual is “it’s being fixed next week”.. clearly needs replacing. Standards of hygiene poor and overall the place is now pretty run down.

Negative experience: Place has turned into a total dive. Used to be well maintained but not anymore yet still large price increases. Gym equipment old, damaged or never works. Same spill marks on the floor for the last 2 years now. Changing rooms are diabolical, health hazard going for a shower with the continued mould infestation on the roof. Try to cover it up and paint it but doesn’t work. Place needs stripped and new facilities. Even the locks for the showers have some sort of living growth coming out of them. Place is never cleaned apart from when the guys come round and just chuck down some water and sometimes top up the shampoo and asks guests to pick up bottles from the floor that’s not even yours!? Bottom of the pool full of sand and murky water, hand rails into the pool slimy along with the sides of the pool. Place needs a good deep clean and managers should be checking on this more. Sick of reporting this to them and in emails. Every time you pass the office they are sat there with their feet up. ( Get up and speak with your guests and get some real feedback instead of sitting about) Really disappointed as it used to be maintained very well and kept clean but not anymore yet still more. Pool was closed today after someone was sick in it, yet nobody at reception mentioned this until you were pool side. Aberdeen Village had a text system to make guests aware of issues, towels being out of stock etc but this place seemingly doesn’t have that facility……. Some staff really obnoxious and rude, but some are really nice and sometime get a hello. Manager I spoke with tonight couldn’t have cared less about any feedback I gave and I ended up walking away. Cancelling membership as it’s definitely not worth £70 a month that’s for sure! Get the place sorted out and spend some god dam money!

Negative experience: Air con in the main gym hasn’t been working for a long time. Really hard to train especially on hot humid days. Mentioned many times but never fixed. There is also no air con in the changing rooms so by the time you leave the gym you are sweating again The gym used to be really good and well looked after it seems things break every other day and take an age to fix. The gym is heading in the wrong direction and this needs to be rectified Sometimes when I read reviews I think maybe someone is exaggerating or has issues with someone that’s why they are leaving a bad review but if you look at some of the other negative reviews you will see similar sentiments

Negative experience: Air con has been broke since 1966 its a joke. Weight clamps are like gold dust, pay £55 a month for what? Wouldn't recommend the state the gym is in atm.

Fantastic experience: Finally found a gym I love! Sarah is an absolute gem to the team! Her classes push me further than any other classes and her PTs have built me a body that looks like I know what I’m doing. Janet’s classes are amazing too, I can honestly say between the staff and the members it’s a proper family. Only took my 47 years to get the bug

Fantastic experience: Love this gym the staff are amazing and go above and beyond to go the extra mile . Sarah’s boxing abs and build classes are fab she’s has a great balance of professionalism and friendliness she’s fab I love her classes. Janet Massey the Les mills tutor is also amazing super friendly professional and really pushes you hard. So glad I joined

Fantastic experience: I really love this gym. I’m not a gym person in general but I’m getting there thanks to their amazing PT Sarah. Normally I buy a membership and get anxious and avoid it. My PT sessions keep me accountable and with time I know I’ll come more often because of this. They have awesome class options. I also like the perks to save money with the restaurant and hotel as well. I added VWorks coworking space to my membership and it’s been a nice change from working at home all the time. If you’re looking for a gym with great people who encourage you without judgement this is the place for you! Hands down some of the best people ever.

Negative experience: Really poor service. Been trying to cancel my membership for 2 months due to medical reasons. Was asked to bring in proof of condition, which I did. Was told that's all sorted for me. Next month they took another payment, went in and was told I haven't brought in my medical proof, again showed them it there and then. They apologised and said ok it's done. 1st of the month comes round and they take another payment. Utterly inept and not fit to do their job properly. They have no idea how continually taking payments can affect someone's account and life. Terrible service.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely perfect, the swimming pool wasn't cold but it wasn't hot, I didn't visit the gym but from the door, it was massive, the pool had a very nice vibe to it and the changing rooms were very clean.

Positive experience: Okay gym. Good price you pay each month for the facilities. Issues with classes being cancelled last minute and facilities not being available due to break downs and maintenance issues, however good monthly fee compared to other gyms with saunas and hot tubs

Negative experience: Very unhelpful in ending my membership when I had only agreed to a 12 month deal and I am still within this period. The gym has areas it can improve on but I had enjoyed my experience up until this point. Unfortunately I am unlikely to come back in the future due to the difficulties faced

Negative experience: This gym has so much more potential to be better than 2 stars, the hygiene is really really poor, the showers in men's changing room is not clean the pool has these bits at the bottom of the edges you can see them at the stairs when entering the pool don't know what it is. But yh cleanliness of this place is what let's it down the swim, sauna and steam room are great and so is the jacuzzi. Pool and jacuzzi need a good clean. Staff seem helpful though

Negative experience: Went for a swim this morning as Hyde Village pool was closed for maintenance. Mens changing rooms were in a dirty state. Wet floors and towels left everywhere. Showers need repairing. Wasn't impressed with the baby class taking over the swimming lane. This should be put on the schedule like the water aerobics class to give the members a time slot to visit!!

Negative experience: It's not a bad gym but the woman's area is so small there's bearly any space to work out. I'm constantly worried I'm gonna hurt someone while working out. Also if you wanna cancel your membership its such a pain honestly it's not worth it also it's sooo over priced

Negative experience: I've been at this gym for about a year and half now, 9 times out of 10 the facilities you pay for are broken, there is no air conditioning in the changing rooms either, the gym is very small and they take over half of it to do classes despite there being specific rooms for this. New comers should think twice as you will be tied in for 12months and paying for something you will not receive 90% of the time and when canceling you have to give 3 months notice. Most of the rules stated are not enforced either people shave where they want and abuse everything its disgusting. There is no rules stating what type of footwear you should use and for some reason this rule that isn't a rule on the website is enforced... this place is a joke

Negative experience: Worse gym iv ever been to , the manager paz or pat or whatever her name is never replies to emails. I joined the gym in the hopes of getting my summer body but now i even feel scared to step inside the gym honestly worse gym experience of my life won’t I wanted to cancel and was told i need to stay another 3 months honestly rather then getting my summer body i just got depression and i cant even cancel the membership. Horrendous experience.

Negative experience: This Gym was one of the best gyms I attended in 2018 - the gym was tidy, clean and very well looked after. Unfortunately, the gym has run down, the facilities are not being looked after anymore. The staff are honestly amazing! But the facilities provided for member are not regular serviced/repaired. The gym charges approx £55 a month but cannot keep the facilities clean and tidy! I have had to take some time off the gym now due to an injury which occurred within the male changing rooms; one of the shower heads fell off the wall, missed my head and hit my arm causing bruising and possible further injury. I wouldn’t recommend new members to join until they have tried a day here before signing up!

Negative experience: So basically when you get the 3month membership you have to call up as soon as your membership starts to cancel it otherwise you’re stuck for 9months. I was going to renew my membership but something is very dodgy about this place. STAY AWAY unless you want to be with them forever. ALSO THEY WONT LET YOU IN AFTER 5pm as off peak

Fantastic experience: Purchased a block of discounted visits and the staff at village have been very helpful and courteous . The sauna / steam facilities are ample enough for 8/10 people ( maybe a few more in the steam) .good size pool , clean with a large and a small jacuzzi area. Would definitely use again. Beware of the cold blast shower outside of the sauna . Sooo cold

Negative experience: Minimum joining period is 3 months, so we cancelled on the day we joined (with intent to switch to annual membership after starting a new job). The cancellation wasn’t processed, we had to chase 3 times and it took 3 weeks for this to be actioned. Signed up for Health MOT. First attempt was cancelled. Second attempt was run by Fitness Manager who then left the company and didn’t complete the programme. Third attempt was also cancelled. We’ve now given up trying to get one set up. Classes are usually booked up well in advance, difficult to get a place on any. The gym is often hot due to the air conditioning not being used. Weights often left out and changing rooms messy. We attempted to raise a complaint with head office after being let down by the gym but so far it’s been 2 weeks and we’ve not received a reply despite being told we’d receive a response within 48 hours. It’s a real shame as it has the potential to be a great gym. It’s local to us and has great equipment. However it’s poorly managed. We’ve encountered issues with sales staff, reception, trainers and head office. Under the right management they could really turn this around however they currently have no interest in listening to members. We’ve given up expecting a response and will be leaving as soon as our membership ends.

Negative experience: To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the experience I had at Village Gym Ashton earlier today. As a regular patron who frequents the gym daily and pays a substantial monthly fee of £65, I expected to be treated with basic courtesy and professionalism. However, what transpired during my visit was nothing short of outrageous and completely unacceptable. Upon entering the gym, I approached the receptionist, as I do every day, to sign in. Despite providing my name and date of birth, the receptionist claimed she couldn’t find my information in the system. After repeating my information, I requested a towel, a simple request considering my regular attendance. Instead of addressing the issue calmly and professionally, a staff member intervened with an attitude, resorting to swearing and displaying aggressive behavior. Not only was I subjected to verbal abuse, but the situation escalated to the point where this staff member was on the verge of physical confrontation, completely unwarranted and inexcusable. What’s even more appalling is that when my mate intervened to defuse the situation, they were the ones met with hostility, while the aggressive staff member faced no repercussions. This type of behavior is utterly disgraceful and reflects poorly on the professionalism and management of Village Gym Ashton. It is unacceptable for staff members to behave in such a manner, especially towards paying customers who deserve to feel safe and respected within the facility. I demand immediate action to rectify this situation and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Furthermore, I expect a formal apology from the management of Village Gym Ashton for the distress and humiliation caused by their staff’s actions. I trust that you will take this matter seriously and implement the necessary steps to uphold the standards of professionalism and customer service at Village Gym Ashton.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member just over 12 months at the Village gym and have to say it is a great place to train and has excellent facilities, the membership is good value for money, especially if you take advantage of the classes that are available, included in your membership. Attending the classes has been a lifestyle change, making new friends, motivating each other when the going gets tough. The staff are friendly and go above and beyond to support you in your fitness journey. Attending personal training and classes by Charlotte Robinson and Pete Blacklock have encouraged and helped me set and achieve goals I would have never thought I could do. I am very happy with the results.

Positive experience: Most accessible parking is abused by none blue badge users. If you are disabled don't expect to have a space. However despite raising the issue on twitter and in. Person 12 months later no action has been taken to enforce the rules

Fantastic experience: Great place to relax. Gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, dry and wet sauna. I try to visit regularly.
Negative experience: Been a member for a long time, gym has gone very down hill over the years. Everytime you go it’s packed male changing rooms are filthy and smelly. The gym it self is designed with no windows what open and for a very long time the owner is a skin flint who has the air con turned off all the time surprised there’s not a safety law. Let me remind you membership fees I’m paying 50 quid a month for a hot box training room what’s packed with groups of men and stinks disgusting. I see the owner responds like a Chinese bot no surprise nothing genuine about it at all.

Fantastic experience: I like the gym at this hotel. It has plenty of modern equipment and training rooms, plus a pool. I have been a member for some time now. You can also hire a trainer for sessions. Member services are very helpful and in particular Ali and Meg have been very helpful to me whilst I have been a member.

Fantastic experience: Natalie gave us a tour of the facilities, and me and my brother signed up the same day. Really clean and tidy the gym was busy but there where plenty of things available, looks well fitted out for classes using the app plan on using the pool and sauna tomorrow. If Natalie is anything to go by staff are excellent.

Fantastic experience: After months and months of virtually no gym workout except for golf I had to use the Village Ashton gym. About 50 minutes I was cramped up. I'm staying at this hot for a week so I hope to lose those kilos I have somehow gained (beer and greasy food doesn't help).

Positive experience: I've been a member since its opening. I would not change it. Equipment, staff, trainers, classes, variety and amazing swimming pool with hot jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna. The booking system and app are so good and easy to use. Well done! It's just such a shame that the disabled parking is still an issue in spite of complaints. I've personally not seen the hotel management or reception even make people aware of the need for them to respect the space for people like me who are doing our best to stay fit regardless of disability.

Fantastic experience: The restaurant serves amazing food and is also child friendly. They give each child a little bag with crayons, games and a menu to draw on the back of. They have cinema seats to watch the football on the big TV at the front of the bar/restaurant aswell.

Negative experience: I have been a member of this Gym and Left then returned when the reviews were more positive. Sadly I did find the ladies changing area dirty even finding dirty sanitary products lying on the floor on some occasions the member of staff I brought this to had to remove them from cubicles.I must admit once you're on a direct debit no matter how much you explain why you've had to make the decision to leave they still want payment. The steam room was always breaking down pool temperature went cold when it was quiet and they started allowing some people into the pool and hot tub wearing long black tops and trousers yet there were notices around regarding pool attire.

Negative experience: Main reason why I choose this gym is swimming. Pool been closed for two months but still need to pay full amount if you have membership. That is wrong.
Positive experience: I came as I guest and I have to admit it’s been a very pleasant experience. Stacey and Meg at the reception welcomed me in and I they showed me the gym. Definitely recommended I will join soon

Negative experience: I would not recommend joining this gym to anyone. I recently had to cancel my membership due to unexpectedly moving out of the country. The lady i spoke to on the phone was being passive aggressive and making it difficult for me to request this. She explained i would need to pay for 5 months after I would be out of the country. She explained if I provide evidence I will not need to do this however while trying to obtain the relevant evidence they have taken two more payments even though i have not been back to the Village since making the initial call. She never explained that this would happen. They then did not offer to refund these and even tried to make me pay for another month! They are only after making money and they do not care about their customers. Once you become a member, it is extremely hard to leave or to cancel the membership. My family and I will never be returning.

Positive experience: Had 5 visits to Village Ashton via a Groupon deal @ £24 having been there in the past I wanted to see if it was still a good gym worth joining. Well it is, the staff are all really nice and the sales team members aren't pushy at all. Equipment is all really good, and always availabubble. The pool and the sauna n steam room are great too. I haven't done any classes as of yet, but once I am in better shape I will do. Joining up for the year this weekend. Parking is fine there, upto 4 hours. T H

Negative experience: Terrible gym. Absolutely no gym staff apart from a women and the Asian manager (who wears bling bling necklaces and watches like he's a wannabe gangster). Small amount of equipment and extremely expensive. Also when you want to leav they make you pay for a further 3 months before ALLOWING you to leave otherwise they threaten you with additional fines and costs. Really... Do yourselves a favour and find a REAL gym with REAL gym staff an trainers which will still be radically cheaper than this place... Ps the sports bar downstairs makes nice burgers

Fantastic experience: Attended a wedding here which was lovely, the meal was wonderful, and the room was decorated beautifully. The staff were very nice and polite and it's a lovely venue.

Negative experience: Missing tiles all over the pool, even a hole the size of a grapefruit in the middle, male changing rooms smashed to bits leaving only one cubical,( been like this now for at least 5 weeks!)apparently there was an altercation in there, I’d love to know where the membership profits go, as far as I can see it certainly not into repairs!
