Positive experience: Great place for swimming lessons.

Negative experience: The changing facilities are absolutely revolting. Every cubicle is covered in old chewing gum and the toilets should be condemned. Despite reporting the issue on a number of occasions, nothing seems to change.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant staff, great for kids parties. Had a 7 year old birthday party here and it was great. Pool session was fantastic and then a large party room after for food and games.

Fantastic experience: We had an amazing time at the swimming session with floats today! My boys had so much fun racing each other. The lifeguards were fantastic, especially Brenden, who made it an enjoyable experience for everyone. The pool and changing rooms were impeccably clean. We’ll definitely be coming back again soon!

Negative experience: Swimming lessons are deteriorating, I’ve got 3 children: First child not a natural swimmer but was taught 7ish years ago by an”old school” teacher, took a bit of time to get through stages but did. Second child 4ish years ago natural swimmer and progressed despite teaching standards slipping. Third child very similar to first child, yet with this modern standard of teaching (where the 2 teachers stand and talk to each other for 50% of the lesson) he hasn’t progressed a stage in 2 years. At the realisation that he won’t have got to the same stage as my other 2 children before his 20’s I’ve cancelled the lessons and vowed to take him swimming myself. So if your child is a natural swimmer then send them to Etwall, if they are likely to be average at swimming it’s worth finding somewhere else.

Negative experience: Swimming lessons are terrible. There is one teacher who is brilliant, a young girl who unfortunately seems to do alternate Wednesdays. She actually teaches swimming. The rest at stage one are appalling. It's common to be 15 or 20 mins into a lesson and them to have done zero swimming. I've noted before in a half an hour lesson he's swam up and down the tiny area twice. Rest is standing about after most the lesson wasted doing nothing. This has been mentioned to reception several times, but no difference. They operate at a snails pace wasting the lesson time splashing kids, getting them to walk in the water, go through a hoop, talking. Surprise surprise 6 months in and zero progress. We are paying you to teach them to swim. Assignment failed ! Worst swimming instructors, don't waste your money.

Positive experience: Swimming lessons are good for kids my son did his there the pool is small the gym is OK & the classes are good to they have them at different days and times I will say that it is a membership to have if you are to use all the thing they have to offer not just the gym because if its just the gym you want theys cheaper gyms out there it is a no contract so you can cancel any time so no harm in giving it ago.

Negative experience: My son goes to swimming lessons at the pool- teacher great however they’re trying to get too many in and it’s chaotic My main issue is the cleanliness of the changing rooms. My husband has repeatedly complained about this and nothing improves. Today I went into a changing room and there was a poo on the floor. I can’t think if this is how the changing rooms are the quality of water is. They need someone in there constantly cleaning at peak times- how long had this poo been there?!?! Disgusting and very unhygienic.

Negative experience: mould in the pool and the metal is rusting

Negative experience: I paid upfront for a years subscription in May with the promise of upgrades and improvements to what was inherited. The gym has improved. Yesterday, the changing rooms were dirty and the floors disgusting. Cubicles have holes in partitions from displaced baby changing units, and the next cubicle is visible through them. I've heard other customers complain, but no one seems able to give any timescale on improvements. I wish I'd gone elsewhere, but it's a convenient location for me.

Positive experience: Took my nephews here to swim during half term - we had to open an account for them to swim and we’re not allowed to use the floats or wiggles that were on the side. Lifeguards were just doing their job, but when there are a lot of small children wanting to swim it is rather discouraging. *and their floats and woggles range from £9 to £30 4 of us adults went to get the floats/woggles and were told off for getting them to help our younger children. Also, it was very busy at the desk as the app wasn’t working for the classes so hard to speak to someone.

Positive experience: Least its open . But after the roof repairs there are still buckets scattered about the gym floor with water in...

Positive experience: Son plays football inside, always an issue to park we need disabled but it's usually full of cars with no blue badges. Once inside you have to dodge the buckets collecting rain water as the roof is leaking. Son loves coming to see his friends.

Fantastic experience: There's a swimming pool, soft play, gym, café it's soo good

Negative experience: The classes are great but the facilities need a serious facelift, the gym is tired and rundown, with old equipment that if often broken and takes months to be fixed. The roof leaks whenever it rains which is fixed by placing buckets around the floor... hazard tape is used as a permanent solution to any issues. The pool is closed at least once a week due to chemical issues and other reasons, the changing rooms are disgusting and the toilets always have a strong odour of sewage. Overall, the centre needs a real upgrade and facelift. It's disappointing to pay around £40 per month just for classes as the gym is barely usable. Hopefully this feedback will be taken on board by the Active Nation group.

Positive experience: Very little investment in the gym.

Positive experience: The pool is fine and the lane swimming was good. It feels reasonably clean but could probably do with some improvements to the group changing facilities.

Negative experience: The place that never picks up the phone…

Negative experience: Rather disappointed that the gym is closed to public most of the day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday so that John Port pupils can use it. Not what a lot of annual subscribers signed up to, we feel robbed. Also dumbbells often go missing from gym, taken by those who do classes in Fitness Studio and do not return to gym. VERY INCONVENIENT.

Negative experience: Trying to book a badminton court here seems impossible. I attempted the online booking system first but it doesn’t work. I called the number on Friday and Saturday, and couldn’t get through. Finally, I walked into the club this morning and tried to book directly with the desk, she couldn’t seem to do this and went to speak to her manager (who was chatting to a colleague). I was asked to leave my telephone number, which I did. Still no call back 7 hours later. Shambolic.

Positive experience: Nice local pool

Negative experience: They hardly ever answer the phone. Maybe understaffed, I don't know.

Negative experience: I do not recommend this gym if u can go anywhere else I would. equipment is old, staff are poor and any members of staff that are good end up leaving, swimming changing rooms are dirty and most of the time stuff is broken I only go because of location.

Negative experience: Can never get through to them on the phone and the kids swimming lessons seem pretty poor. We have moved our children to swimming lessons elsewhere

Fantastic experience: Great place, used for swimming lessons. Teachers are brilliant and recommended.

Negative experience: We wanted to take our grandsons to the family fun session - found it difficult to navigate the website and tried several times to phone reception to ask but no-one picked up. The Facebook page said the sessions were 2.00-4.00 so we arrived at two, wasted a few minutes with a locker that didn't work and then were told to get out of the pool at 2.45. Kids v disappointed and I was too - someone could have told us that the session was going to finish then before we got in the pool. Staff were helpful and polite but didn't seem to understand the need to communicate.

Fantastic experience: Watched my 9 year old Grandson have his swimming lesson here whilst visiting the UK.He loved it! the instructors were brilliant with the kids and a great viewpoint available for the parents.PackedbParking lot tells you how popular this place is

Positive experience: Busy car park but well managed centre

Negative experience: I've been going to this gym on and off for 5 years and it gradually gets worse and worse. I only go because of location and what I can afford. It's too small for the amount of users during peak times. The changing and toilet facilities aren't clean, and are very worn and in disrepair. When machines break or malfunction it seems like it takes an eternity for any staff member to find out or get it fixed. The staff members appear to be doing very little,, when they could be checking cleanliness / cleaning or inspecting equipment. I had to point out multiple broken machines. How long before they would have checked? Also way more expensive than some larger competitors like pure gym for example. A bit odd when they claim to be a 'charity'. Maybe I'm missing something there. Positives are there are sufficient cardio and weights / machines. Also 1 squat rack.

Fantastic experience: Had a chance to play badminton, court is much better than a lot of other leisure places. It is soft floor so less chances of slipping. Light is also play friendly. Parking was a bit congested but found which was free of charge without time limit. There are many other attractions onsite like swimming, gym, squash and much more.

Positive experience: Nice pool. Friendly staff. However the changing rooms are smelly and dirty, they need regularly checking and throughly cleaning.

Fantastic experience: Liked the vibe of the place!

Positive experience: Problem for many months now with a broken door which should allow swimmers to go directly to the pool. As it's broken the children coming out of the pool and going into the showers meet those children who are on the way through the showers to get to the pool for their lesson. Pandemonium.

Fantastic experience: Quality leisure centre and pool. Just wish I lived closer. Great supporter of the Derby Traithlon.

Negative experience: The website is awful and often double books you for activities, resulting in a 4 day process to get a refund. Gyms are dirty, budget, and old, which does not reflect the 31.50 per month price Activenation phone app is awful and does not confirm that you've cancelled your membership, it also withholds your account history if you are no longer a member. Overall, ActiveNation is a very poor and unprofessional company. - They never answer the phone. Have tried multiple times for weeks for various issues. - Gym is very small, old and over-priced. Not worth the £31 a month. - Facilities for Badminton and sports are good.

Negative experience: How do I book Lane swimming on the website? Has the web site changed? I've always booked online but there no option today. I rang and got a message someone would ring me back. I've done this in the past and no-one ever gets back to me. Very frustating.

Negative experience: Just been to a fun splash session (Saturday 30th July) which on the website is advertised as 14:15 - 15:00. Only when we were in the pool, did a lifeguard tell us the session runs from 14:00 - 14:45. When we questioned this at reception, we were told that the upkeep of the website is out of their hands and not their responsibility. We were told that the timetable on the desk is the one we need to go by! Great if you’re visiting for the first time. We had rang them in the morning 5 times to check availability and when we mentioned this and how it would have been good to find out then, we were told that they’d been very busy that morning and didn’t have time to answer the phone. No offer of a partial refund, or any incentive to come back. The apology felt more like “I’m sorry I’m having to explain this to someone else, but please just leave”. I’m willing to bet that no attempt is made to contact the web developer to ask them to change the timetable. Well, you’ll be able to see yourself if the time has changed! Very poor management of the situation and complaint.

Positive experience: They have a small gym and it is missing some of the most important equipment, but it is ok if you are not a pro and don't care about full places... But they have other activities like swimming pull

Fantastic experience: Were friendly place for kids and family

Positive experience: Only used the pool and changing areas. Pool is a decent size and would be good for lane swimming. The temperature feels quite cool though especially for a pool that babies and toddlers are supposed to be able to use.

Positive experience: Cons: Changing rooms are smelly and dirty. Swimming teachers can be seen playing with their phones at times. Pros: good location and in comparison to other gyms.

Positive experience: They leave the keys with 1 person and if they are late or don’t turn it this happens….. no or bad management. - 5 months in this hasn’t happened again so in fairness this was a one off. Keeping it at 3 star as the gym price for the equipment and room you get is nearly double that of a chain say PureGym with lots more to offer.

Positive experience: Arrived for a martial competition. Facilities were good and clean

Negative experience: No opportunity for adults to swim without sharing the pool with children since the timetable change. 9-10pm every Tuesday and Thursday nights was always adult lane swim, now it is classed as casual swim. Unbelievably people take children as young as 2 or 3 swimming at this time of night. The only lane swimming available is early morning or lunchtime which is no good if you work.

Fantastic experience: Quiet, well equipped and great staff

Positive experience: Clean swimming pool and changing facilities. Badminton courts are available to hire. Good quality though lighting can be improved. There's a full fledged gym and instructor led exercise classes. Hilton creatively club runs winter training

Positive experience: Great, easy to get to (from the A50), leasure centre and the home of the Etwall Eagles Swimming Club. The best swimming club we have found in South Derbyshire.

Positive experience: Swimminning pool is great, good size, nice temperature. Staff are usually friendly and helpful. Always feel a little unsettled in the changing rooms as floor always seems slippy; hence only 4/5 stars.

Positive experience: It is on the outskirts of Derby and takes nearly 20-30mins based on where you live within Derby. Nice place with Gym, swim, racquet sports, grounds,..... Membership options available. Nice staff. Sometimes members book the badminton court and do not turn up which is annoying. Place hygiene maintained during times of Corona!!! 23-May-22: downgrading it to 3star. Restrooms and changing areas are absolutely shabby. Need to maintain it well!

Fantastic experience: Not my first time going to this establishment. It has always held a high standard and it has not changed over the last 5 years I have been attending. The staff members are always present to help and provide the right guidance. It can be slightly disorienting to find your way to the sports hall, although signs are present. There are many turns to take as it is based around the school. The courts are always great to play on and allows players to spectate away from the courts. As seen on the photos in the background. I would recommend going if you have little ones to entertain and they have a very good swimming programme. Visit their website for more information on classes and other activities going on. Will be coming back.

Negative experience: Gym is pretty basic. There are only paid lockers. I wouldnt mind this though if they didnt charge 28 gbp a month for this while most better equipped gyms in Derby charge 16 gbp.

Positive experience: Reasonably clean and well maintained facilities. Car park can get very busy at peak times.

Fantastic experience: Located close to Derby has facilities for swimming, football and gym. There is two parking space at main entrance and rear towards the football arena. Saturday is Very busy and car park can be full. Some time it spill on to the road

Negative experience: Pros: 25m pool with a relative good schedule and good for swimming for fitness as pool is cooler than others. Cons: cleanliness of changing facilities. This seems to be getting worse and it seems that the cleaning is non existent. Recommendation: Please see to the cleanliness as this was once a great leisure center and it won’t take too much to get it there again.

Positive experience: Good for serious fitness workouts. Not one for taking little kids though as the pool is quite cold!

Positive experience: Good leisure centre. I swim a few times a week there. Pool can be a bit cold but its decent.

Positive experience: I use the gym most mornings before work, it is clean, quiet and very pleasant. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the evenings. Parking is limited at weekends due to sporting events etc it's also more expensive than most justgym memberships

Positive experience: Paying member but getting increasingly frustrated with the condition of the place, particularly the swimming changing rooms, showers and toilets which are disgusting. Reported numerous times now but fail to see improvement. Gym is in good condition still.

Positive experience: It's a good leisure centre but don't trust the website timetable. I've been caught out by this a few times. The last time apparently it's on their Facebook page. (Some of us don't use facebook, shock).
