Services, Machines and Guided Classes
PureGym St Ives Cambridgeshire: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great place, great machines ,great offers for new members and loads of fitness classes included in member ship. Highly recommended. The fact its 24 hours is a huge bonus
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing bodytone session this morning 14th September! The instructor was amazing making sure everyone was ok and giving us confidence! Definitely come back again thank you!
Positive experience: It's a nice modern setting. Pleasant people there, well kept facilities, parking readily available as car park is large one shared with nearby Morrisons. Membership is pretty reasonable and all in all it's a good gym. Decent amount of machines and open space if you are doing walking lunges or things like that. Studio for classes. It really lets itself down though when it comes to barbells. On paper it looks good - a dozen or so bars. But a few of these are 15kg and a few are 32mm diameter. There are very few standard sized 20kg barbells and all of these have very smooth knurling to the point of being useless. None of the bars have centre knurling so if you are squatting you will struggle to keep the bar well located on the back. Would be a big improvement if they could get even just a couple of proper bars. There is a pretty good number of dumbells in 2kg increments. They range from 2kg to 40kg so if you are particularly strong this might not be enough. There are two pairs of each weight from 10kg to 28kg and one pair in the other weights so typically what you want it available. Gym does have AC but it's almost unbearably hot even with that on into September. This is the only pure gym that I have been to so not sure if they are like this everywhere.
Fantastic experience: Great gym,great staff,fantastic atmosphere..Great equipment..
Positive experience: Nice gym. Helpful staff. Very clean Thanks to Rizzo for this. Good PT, Benn. Music too loud during classes.
Fantastic experience: Good
Negative experience: BEWARE: If you go at peak times the music in the classes are so deafeningly loud you cannot hear yourself think elsewhete in the gym. All that noise for an average class of 6 people doing what looks like pointless exercises and reminds me of the recent Tik Tok trend titled ‘women will do anything to avoid actual exercise’.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym
Negative experience: Well deserved 1 star review
Fantastic experience: The gym has been open for over a year now and it still feels as clean, new and well equipped as it was when it opened.
Positive experience: Shower, something not working properly.
Fantastic experience: Great place to go,for beginners and also for advanced ones
Positive experience: I have just moved closer to St Ives, so this gym is much more convenient for me, the location is great, just the gym is a bit small, I normally use Kelsey which is much better equipped and the change rooms do not suck as much as this gym. There is only 1 disabled toilet and 2 individual toilets so I can see that being a problem if there are too many people, the changing room is too small, there are 2 little cubby sized change rooms like you would see in a shop when buying clothes. The disabled toilet was out of order when I went there and there was a sign up that they were waiting for a part, the toilet area doubles as a shower room, there is no bench in there to put your bag on, only hooks on the wall. Lot of little private rooms, not accessible to members, unfortunately the change room area is too small, don't think of showering after gym. Nice friendly culture, but there is an issue with capacity, too many people for too few machines, it's very compact and when it is busy there are not enough machines. The gym is open 24/7 so it is possible to go when it is not so busy. Mostly I found I have switched from going there for weight lifting to cardio, but even that is limited. Unfortunately I can't see myself continuing to use this gym, although the location is convenient, it is just to small and compact. Expensive for the price. Although people don't use towels and don't wipe down machines, today I found there is a bottle of spray and wipe at the front desk you can use if you want to wipe a machine down before or after use. Nice to see so many trainers there and cleaner is nice and friendly, hard working guy, very helpful. Parking is free in the Morrison's car park, but the 5 disabled bays in front are shared with the shoppers from Morrison. Access into and out of the gym requires the use of qr code scan both in and out using your phone, seems a bit unnecessarily, I found this very awkward, would be much easier to swipe a membership card in or out or even an option for those who want to swipe with mobile or card would perhaps be better, I can only think this is a gimmick aimed at people who live on their mobiles, not really a selling point for me. (I would suggest you prepare, login to Puregym app and select gym access so you are ready beforehand, it makes it a lot easier to scan in and out)
Fantastic experience: Great selection of classes , supportive, motivational PT’s .
Fantastic experience: Spacious but not much equipment. There are only 2 showers. Tidy though.
Positive experience: Good selection of weights and machines
Fantastic experience: Plenty of equipment, both machines and free weights. Kept nice and clean.
Fantastic experience: This is the first gym I actually enjoy. Everyone friendly and helpful. Brilliant equipment and everything very clean and tidy.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, good atmosphere, all instructors are great and very helpful
Fantastic experience: The cleaner is very approachable and kind he facilitate me on my first day, and Coach Ryan is very kind he allowed me to sit in on the class even im late for 5mins. Kodos PureGym St Ives Branch.
Negative experience: Me after four months grinding here
Fantastic experience: Nit and clean Gym. Good maintain by Gym Staff.
Positive experience: Usual good standard of pure gym although this one is very small, it wasn't busy when I went but if it was then it would have been difficult to get on machines as there was mostly only one of everything.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff clean and tidy gym
Fantastic experience: Excellent clean, friendly gym environment.
Fantastic experience: A good gym , friendly staff, not enough benches or weights or machines for how busy its gets and missing machines for certain muscle groups
Positive experience: This place is fantastic to go and just work out without being bothered by others. The puregym app shows you peak times, allowing you to choose when you wish to attend. There are a variety of workout machines, all with diagrams as to how to use them. I usually visit during oof peak times and find myself able to use any machine I choose, or there is a short wait whilst waiting for someone to finish their set.
Positive experience: Decent size gym, plenty of kit for the amount of people and good vibe. Downsides are one solitary shower that's slippier than an ice rink and tiny changing area!
Fantastic experience: I joined puregym in St Ives when they opened. Very affordable and able to access a lot of machines. I go in the week midday and I find not to busy and never having to wait. Staff are friendly and helpful. Haven't tried the classes but they are very popular and look fun.
Positive experience: It's a good gym, it has all the equipment needed and the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. My only "but" is that there's only one shower and a couple of changing pods.
Positive experience: Overall it's a good gym with a good selection of classes. The class instructors are enthusiastic and very positive. I especially enjoy Step with Luke and Dance with Toby. There could be more yoga classes rather than one a week. I took away a star as there's no separate studio for classes and it's difficult to do yoga with the gym music blazing in the background and can't hear the instructor and needless to say it's not the most relaxing environment. Also, I don't like the system where you have to pay extra directly to the yoga instructor. It would be much better if the cost was added at the end of the month's bill. Other than that I think it's a great value for money gym I'm impressed so far
Positive experience: Good gym in terms of equipment, on the smaller side but definitely good enough for most i would say. My only issue with it is that it's always so so hot in there and it makes it really tough to work out. Wish there would be some Aircon or if there is turn it down a lot more please
Positive experience: It's very good as its nice and new equipment, and the personal trainers are very friendly, plenty of lockers for kit, the only small thing is they have no wipes or antiseptic spray to clean when on the treadmill/bike etc so it would be nice to do that before you use them.
Positive experience: Just opened so happy to change this review in time. Brand new equipment which is great. For gym goers who prefer classes, there are dedicated areas for that albeit quite small. For people who weight train, this isn't the gym for you. I would stick to the Grafton. There's not enough diversity of equipment yet. The free weights area is small with weight capped at 40kg and the equipment for compound lifts is lacking. There is also a very limited changing area. I can understand this because the gym is in a great position in St Ives, close to where people live, but this is difficult if you want to train and then go to work. I have a plus membership so it's great to be able to access this gym, but I would predominantly use it for cardio on the weekends and then back home for a shower.
Fantastic experience: Smart new gym with good equipment. Plenty of space, friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of free weights and machines, lots of benches. Parking is free outside and the gym is 24/7 access.
Positive experience: This is a smaller version of the usual Puregym sites, in many areas know as Puregym local. It’s got all the main equipment and as opened in March 2023 is also brand new. I do not mind the limited changing and shower facilities as what is there is single occupancy unisex and works well. My only dislike is the group workout studio space - it’s not a separate room like most gyms but a quarter of the floor plan with a single dividing wall, I found the music and instructor comments very loud and distracting when I was on equipment elsewhere in the gym. Is based right next to Morrisons and so many many free car parking spots right outside the gym door. If all you want is a small gym with an elliptical, treadmill, rower, cycles and the usual weights machines then this will meet that need.
Positive experience: Good, but lack of changing rooms is less than perfect and too few treadmills.
